So while I gear up for my Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy)Β review (I’ve been in mourning and needed to recover. IΒ miss the book!! I MISS IT!), I’ve decided to give away my own copy, of the very first book that hooked me into this genre forever, and gave me the same languishing ache, once I knew it was over.
My copy of Twilight. It’s used. But it’s loaded with my good “vampire-love” energy.Β I can still feel it vibrating with my emotional overload that I transfused it withΒ as I read it π
And…thanks to my best bud Lily, who sent me the original hard cover copy for my collection, I can bare to part with this one.
So how to win it? All I’d like is for you to leave a comment (no mailing addressΒ needed yetΒ – I will get it from the winner via email), letting me know what book did it for you? What bookΒ hooked you into the paranormal and urban fantasy genre? Now I have a feeling most of you may have already read (or own) this book, so if you want to leave a comment so you can win it and give it to someone else, that’s fine too.
By tomorrow (Sunday December 12th 2010Β at 1pm EST) I will get one of those randomizer thingies to choose the winner. U.S. residents only please π (although all are free to comment, I’d love to hear your “first paranormal book experience”)
Last April my girlfriend told me how much she loved the Twlights books.I loved the movie. So she let me borrow them. I loved them. I read all of them with in two weeks. Since then I think I have read over 100 books. I even got a library card, which I have not been to one since high school. One of my favorite authors is Jeannie Frost, Lauren Kate, PC Cast, Yasmine Galenorn and Richelle Meed. I am just finishing up the Karen Marie Moning Faefever series.
I HATE it when people talk about stuff when I don’t have a clue what they are talking about. This was the case with the Twilight movie.
When I opened a magazine it was Twilight this and Robert Pattinson that. I googled Twilight and when I saw that it was based on a book about Vampires I didn’t give it a second thought. That was the last thing I would read or watch. Vampires? Who reads that BS?
Months after the movie came out and people were still going on and on about Twilight I decided to rent the movie so that I can find out what the hype is about. I watched it! I loved it! I went and bought the books right away. I read all 4 books in 4 days. I think I only slept about 2 hours during that time. I am now also on the banned list at the video store because I refused to take the dvd back for 3 weeks. I watched it over and over and over.
As soon as I finished Breaking Dawn I started having withdraw symptoms. I could not get enough about Vampires. I searched on the Internet for books similar to the Twilight Saga, which is also how I stumbeled on your website. Thank You by the way! I think I could be classified as a webstalker because I religiously check your site twice a day. Relax! Don’t call the authorities just yet, I’m not violent – maybe I am sometimes when I have to work and I cant read, but other then that the world is safe. I’m getting of the topic here, please excuse my ramblings. To get back to your original question – It was definately Twilight.
From Twilight I went to LJ Smith’s Vampire Diaries as well as her Night series. JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood and then Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy – I just finished Last Sacrifice and I feel your pain!!!! I am in physical mourning about the end!
I have read countless paranormal books in the last year and my library keeps growing. I would’ve like to give my worldy belongings to Stephanie Meyer for opening this genre for me but I doubt my husband and kids will share the sentiment.
I am waiting impatiently for Karen Marie Moning’s Shadowfever but until then I have a busload to keep me busy in the meantime!
I cant remember the exact time ,,, I know it was last year sometime…and to be truthful,,,Twilight wasnt it ,,I watched the movies but actually the book that did it for me was Evermore,,,by Allyson Noel,,,”The Immortal Series” I was working the nite shift and asked my daughter if she had a book i might could take,,I was never much on reading but she gave me Evermore,,,I finished it with in a day and 1/2 and then I was so caught up in Damon and Ever that I had to read “Bluemoon” it actually wasnt till after I watched new moon that I read the Twilight books cause New Moon had such a crappy ending…(lol) since then, as like Jenn above I have read everything that i can get my hands on and thanks to your website, that i ran across googling paranormal books, I can honestly say that 85% of everything that i have read have come from reading your wonderful reviews…

Hey Jennifer! What a gorgeous blog!! Can’t wait to read what you come up with π
I’m not active on blogspot, unfortunately, so I’m not familiar with all the neat gadgets that you can use for it, but if I remember right, I think they have a “most popular widgets” section that might get you some neat stuff.
Hope that helps!!
Thank you!
So how did a 45 year old strait man wind up on such a pink website? Sigh, I had my kids read the Harry Potter series as teens. Okay, so I had to use my parental persuasion to get my kids into reading. They did love the books. Years later Twilight came out and I found the tables turned on me. Being strait the romance was a bit lost on me though I admit to be soundly rooting for Jacob. <..> O.o Yeah… Anyway, in the movies sadly the splendid tense thriller of a plot becomes lost in the romance. Still, I enjoyed the read, but my favorite Author is Jim Butcher with his “Dresden Files”. Waiting in between releases, I discovered “The Hollows” series by Kim Harrison and got my oldest daughter hooked on that. She in turn now has me reading Laurell K. Hamilton’s “Anita Blake Vampire Hunter” After I swore vehemently to avoid vampire noir. My youngest daughter pounced and now has me looking to read “The House of Night” series. She gave me “Burned” but according to your web site it’s not the first in the series. Now I’m gonna have to buy “Marked” and “The Lunatic Cafe’ “.
OK, I’m gonna go hide in a dark corner now. Ta-ta.
LOL John!!
Thank you so much for leaving that comment. It made my day! And don’t worry, male or female, these books are addictive! I know of a few other men who devoured the Twilight books, so you’re in good company π
