Gateway to Heaven
A rock star book. Of course, all I needed to see was that. The premise was good enough for me (albeit, similar to many I’ve read). Hugely famous rock star comes back to home town for an event, and falls for sweet, innocent beauty. Good enough for me! I was in. And of course, what hooked me was that she didn’t have a clue who he was. I always love those reveals. Except, that this one didn’t unconditionally hold my attention. I don’t know why. It had everything it needed. A roguish rock star with a bad reputation, tempting the virginal angel of the town, ticking off her family in the process. Him, pouting over her refusal, her insecurities in regards to his intentions. His past that comes back to haunt her… her past that absolutely halts his wolfish behavior. Oh and there’s steamy stuff, too!

Book Review – Where She Went by Gayle Forman
Where She Went (If I Stay)
Warning!! SPOILERS AHEAD for those who haven’t yet read book 1. And while this book does give you enough background as to what exactly led the main character… here, it is still better to get the whole picture, and all of the emotion attached. And that is best done by reading the first book, in this “duet”.
So this book gave me a few things I so desperately needed.
- A continuation of book #1. The ending was so… wide open. It could have went anywhere, and I prefer when there is a definite resolution. I don’t wanna come up with the “ending” myself. I’m not a fan of “left up to interpretation” endings. What if my conclusion is wrong? I always have that “what if…” worry . *sigh*
- A more mature story in regards to the characters (as this book occurs three years after the “incident”) – so now everyone involved is pretty much an adult.
- More of Adam (I adored him in book #1) Adam. The ultra famous rock star. Need I say more? The whirlwind of his stardom, the chaos, the demands, and his ever-broken heart that instead of healing, just continues on it’s downward spiral.
As I “summarized” in my “best of 2011” list:
“Ohhhh the plight of yet another tortured rock star. And this character had every right to his desperate angry tormented ways. EVERY reason. And as we live out a few days during the pinnacle of his huge rock-stardom, we re-live his agony over his loss of the only thing that mattered to him. Rock stardom was his dream, but it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, living it with a broken heart. Sure, the reason for his destruction is also what helped catapult him to rock stardom, but he just can’t get past it. And this is the book that brings us (and him) face to face with his heartbreaker.”
Maryse’s 2011 Top Twenty Five Favorite Books List – Too Good To Archive
In 2011 I read 117 books. Or actually, I should say, I completed exactly 110 books, and didn’t finish seven of ’em. Wanna know how I came up with this list? Most of these are the books that I have read, and/or have re-read this year that continue to “live” in my Kindle vs. being “archived” and deleted out of my main virtual library.
You see, even though archiving my e-books doesn’t delete them from my account, and I can retrieve them at any time, I can’t bear to part with these. I need to see them every day, as I scroll though my unread books (just seeing them gives me butterflies). I need to open them up every once in awhile, and re-read my favorite highlighted parts, when I’m reminiscing or when I’m bored but don’t have the time to start a brand new book. And sometimes, I just need to re-read them altogether.
We’ve Been Comparing Our Favorite Book Heroes – Our Top Ten Book Heroes List
So, a few days ago, my friend Jackie (who’s on a huge Kellan & Christian Grey kick right now) and I were discussing how great our book year was, and comparing our favorite book-guys. Many of our fellow Facebook readers got in on the action, and we’ve come up with some very similar lists! Although… Jackie and a few of you have included some books that I haven’t gotten to yet, and now I have more to look forward to!
Here’s what we came up with (Jackie went first). Feel free to join in, in the comments below. Maybe you can introduce us to some new swoon worthy heroes and alpha males, for the upcoming year. My TBR list is long, but i’m always happy to add to it, and switch things around in order of awesome, insistent recommendations! 😉
NEWS!! Thoughtless. Finally On Kindle. YAY!!
Guuuuys!!! Looooook! OMG YAY! FINALLY!!! Thoughtless is on Kindle!! For all of you who haven’t read this one yet, this is a MUST READ. As per me, and pretty much all of my fellow bad-boy, rock star, crazy-love-triangle-loving readers!!! Am I right? YES. I am. One of my top books. Rates up there with Beautiful Disaster, and Fifty Shades of Grey, (and while I’m at it, “Sweet Dreams“).
This love story is a disaster waiting to happen, keeping you on the edge of your seat, and boy oh boy, it doesn’t disappoint. Your heart will be torn apart, over and over again, but all the good parts are just soooo good that you’ll endure all of that heartache. Promise!
