It was primarily written from the POV of Annika which made the book so special because seeing things from her perspective was such a gift. It was helpful to get some chapters from Jonathan’s POV as well to better understand his thought processes as well. Anne: Maryse I really liked Heart-Shaped Hack. Ian and Kate are amazing together and there’s a little mystery and angst. It didn’t disappoint!
…no unnecessary drama which I always appreciate. Ian and Kate were great together and their relationship was beautiful. There’s going to be a second book but there’s no CH in this first one. A 4.25/5 for me. read more

What to Read After On the Island – “Stranded on a deserted island” romance books…

When it comes to love stories, there is nothing more fun than two people (strangers, or enemies, or maybe one of ’em being an unrequited love-secret admirer) to be thrown together and… stuck together for whatever reason.

This is a “genre” that I am SO drawn to and the ones I read, I simply can’t forget. ‘Cause while it “sounds” romantic (escaping the stresses of our fast-paced lives and living in seclusion and “peace” in a tropical paradise), truth be told, in reality? It’s a total nightmare! Especially those where “they” are stuck in some sort of a “deserted” area. Whether it be on a deserted island (plane crash or sinking boat), completely snowed in, in a bare-minimum cabin, or even stuck in an elevator, there has been some exciting, scary and especially STEAMY intensity going on. read more

Book Review – Covet by Tracey Garvis Graves

Whoa. The synopsis for this one had my attention months ago, ’cause it was obvious this story would lead us on an intense, yet uncomfortable path. Just the title alone says so much. I couldn’t wait!! And it delivered. Even when it took me out of my comfort-zone, made me cringe, it simultaneously made me ache. It has that real life feel, and I was in!

In fact, the *cringeworthy* stuff often has that added bonus for me. Eeep! I know… sometimes I worry that I should stick to sweet and safe (lest I be labelled… a bad book-influence). 😉 And I do enjoy sweet and safe, but I like to delve into the socially… unacceptable. read more

I’ll never forget the day my friend Tina started reading On the Island, and promptly recommended it to me. I was intrigued! Not only did the book detail a dangerous circumstance and a fight for survival, (two people having to survive on a deserted island after  plane crash!? Wow!) but there was an added *kick* to the intrigue. How the relationship between these two survivors (a 17 year old and his 30 year old female tutor) would progress. Alone, with nobody to cling to, to talk to, but each other. You just knew as a reader, you were certain to experience a special bond in the process. read more
