Gena Showalter – Lords of the Underworld Series Reading Order

in Reading Order Guide:

Great series!!! These guys take “personal demons” to a whole new level. Powerful guardians to the gods release demons from their prison (Pandora’s Box), to prove a point. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to capture and put them back. As punishment for their actions, they were banished to Earth, each one forced to “host” a demon. Each book focuses on a Guardian’s internal struggle of good and evil mingled into one body, while continuing to protect and serve. But all is not lost. Within their dark existence exists a potential for love, a woman that can ease their torment, and help their mission. The romance abounds in these novels, and had me weak at the knees!

As per the author’s website:

Long ago, twelve immortals warriors – each more dangerously seductive than the last — stole and opened Pandora’s box, unleashing the evil from within. Now they carry that evil within themselves. Violence, Pain, Death, Disease, Disaster, Misery, Doubt, Promiscuity, Defeat, Lies, Secrets, and Wrath. When a powerful enemy returns, they will travel the world in search of a sacred relic of the gods – one that threatens to destroy them all.

Allison February 21, 2010 at 8:33 PM

If you love JR Ward and LOTU, then try Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series! You won’t be disappointed:)

Maryse February 21, 2010 at 8:36 PM

You’re right! I’ve read the Midnight Breed series and I loved it! I too, think it’s similar (in style) to BDB.

Cherfiel July 22, 2010 at 10:05 AM

Im basically obssesed with just about every paranormal romance novel. Gena Showalter, kresley Cole and kerrelym Sparks are my favorite autors… so far :) I have yet to read any J.R. Ward novels even though I’ve been tempted

Diane September 10, 2010 at 4:59 AM

@Cherfiel: Read the BDB books, they are amazing… just read them in order to ensure you get the story in the right order – trust me… you’ll adore the books and the brothers

Billie September 17, 2010 at 4:19 PM

Ok I LOVE BDB and Midnight Breed Series as well as Dark Hunter Series. How does this series compare?

Leylakyrie October 6, 2010 at 1:13 PM

This is my favorite series to date, and I have gone through over a 100 books in the past 8 months alone. The depth in the characters alone is outstanding. Although some may make you a little masochistic..ha ha…it’s totally worth it. No, seriously though, you feel the anguish, the lust, the urgency in the chase and fight of the story in itself as though you were standing right there alongside the warm blooded immortal sweating profusely after a battle with the “Hunters”. I really enjoyed the way the reader is constantly unraveling the story page after page, whether it’s the complicated history of the character or the all over tragic and complicating premise of the immortals as a whole. It’s truly fascinating how although they are all immortal, the represent a different demon and with that, each have a very different relationship to unfold. I love it! Can’t wait for the rest to come out!!

ap October 6, 2010 at 2:22 PM

ninhydrin November 16, 2010 at 3:29 AM

i already downloaded ebooks of lords of the underworld and i’m looking forward to reading it! :)
i really like ward’s style and BDB! i wish there’ll be a book about qhuinn as well but i dont think there’ll be because ward said there’ll be 10 bdb books with payne’s as the 9th and tohrment as 10th. so i really wish she’d add one more for qhuinn’s. :)

i’ve been looking for ebooks of kresley cole’s immortal after dark but cant find any. anyone here that has a copy of that series? i’ll greatly appreciate your help. thanks! :)

Maryse November 16, 2010 at 9:41 AM

Hi ninhydrin!

Just a quick response to your J.R. Ward questions. As per the “WARDen” herself on Friday’s chat:

“[J R Ward] THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT WAS FOR THREE
[J R Ward] AND RIGHT NOW THE SERIES IS OPEN ENDED SO AS LONG AS PEOPLE WILL KEEP READING AND THE BROTHERS KEEP TALKING AND THE GOOD LORD KEEPS ME ABOVE GROUND ID LOVE TO KEEP IT GOING
[J R Ward] THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT FOR THE SERIES WAS FOR TEN
[J R Ward] BUT IT BECAME APPARENT THERE WERE MORE PEOPLE”

Great news, huh!!?? No plans to end it as of yet.

Also there will be three novella’s (Rhage & Mary’s, then Wrath & Beth’s, then Qhuinn’s).

hope that helps!
Maryse

Neena November 29, 2010 at 11:03 AM

Hi Ninhydrin,

Just wanted to say that I recently started The Immortals After Dark Series and they are fab! I am almost done with the series and right now I am completely hooked. I currently have a Nook and was able to download the ebook from the B&N website. If you happen to have a Kindle, I also saw these books available in ebook format on Amazon. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have any other book recommendations? So far I have read The Dark Hunter series, BDB series, Immortals after Dark series (in progress) and plan to read LOUW series. Its funny because in the book “Kiss of a Demon King (IAD series)” one the characters, Nix, mentions that she was on her way to Budapest to investigate The Lords of the Underworld (caught my interest right there lol). Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Neena

i am so excited for Parish’s book… hurry up, 2012!

Maryse February 6, 2011 at 8:00 PM

I’m going to make a marathon read-fest of this series shortly. Can’t wait!!

Ofelya February 18, 2011 at 11:50 AM

Actually I’ve read only first book of the “Lords oh the Underworld” and it was not bad. The thing that I didn’t like is that there is sometimes too much description of the same feeling of the same character. And the feelings and emotions and sufferings of all of the lords are seems to be in the same way. But I must say that the lords are anyway great and it’s interesting to watch how they fall in love even against their will. Hope that I’d like the rest parts of the series. What about twilight saga, I should say that the most catchy thing is that this is the first (or one of the first)books that came so close to the problem of the love between the human and an immortal and even tried to give an answer what to do in such cases. Thanks for your recommendations about what to read next, ’cause I’m nor a big fan of twilight, but I’m interested in reading the series that you’ve mentioned.

Angela February 23, 2011 at 2:14 AM

I LOVE the LOTU books… I can’t wait too see what happens next in the series… I was wondering if Gena had ever thought of making a LOTU movie series?? I think it would be great to see all these dashing warriors and their women brought to life on the big screen!!!!!

Brandi March 12, 2011 at 8:14 PM

Immortals After Dark series & Midnight Breed series are great reads. If you like these you might like Almost Human as well.

IAD is the best. If you plan to read it Nix is the best. Pay attention to her t-shirt sayings. They are great.

I’m moving on to Lord Of The Underworld next since I’ve heard there are some minor cross-over possibilities with IAD.

Black Dagger Brotherhood is on my list as well. Glad to hear so many have enjoyed it.

cassie March 23, 2011 at 4:32 PM

I just strated reading Lords of the Underworld novels . It all strated because I was bored on my job . All I did was download the first book of the series on my Ipad and I was hook. Thank God for boredom , because I really love this series!!!!!!! I like all the books that I had read so far but Darkest Kiss is the best one to me. Because of that book I’m looking for an ugly man who will love me the way he loves Anya . As of right now I’m reading Darkest Passion I’m not yet done with the series but give time.

Taylor W. May 10, 2011 at 1:37 AM

I just fished reading Darkest Passion. O.M.G !!!! NOW!! I want a man with wings. Lol !!!!!!These books just get better & better in this series but I have to put the next book on hold Darkest Lie . Ms. Charlaine Harris just came out with Dead Reckoning the 11th book in the Sookie Stackhouse novel. Her books are way diffident from Gena Showalter but I love them all the same .

Debbie June 4, 2011 at 8:12 PM

I think Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter are friends… that’s why you see a little Nix is Lords of the Underworld…. but Immortals After Dark is MY FAVORITE SERIES BY FAR… The sex, the humor, the plot lines… and oh the men…. hot hot hot…. Just finishing up Alexandra Ivy’s series Guardians of Eternity and it was pretty good… but nothing compares to J.R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood…. 7 ft tall, shitkickin’ wearin’, leather bound Vampires are sooo sooo hot!!!

B B Robins September 29, 2011 at 8:34 AM

Nicole November 5, 2011 at 10:19 PM

I like LOTU a lot maybe even more than BDB, which is a must read series, though i have to say i have a hard time trying to figure out what book comes next, I started w/ darkest night, should i of started w/ darkest fire? then kiss then pleasure. Got all lost then went with into the dark, which is a tease, read both LOTU clips as i would call them…. Now waiting for Darkest Whisper am I on the right track? If anyone is looking for a PR series, read Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson series. That’s the series that got me started on PR novels. While i read on w/ LOTU and waiting for Lover Reborn, Can anyone suggest another great series. Thanx

Maryse November 6, 2011 at 5:24 PM

Hi Nicole – above is the exact reading order list of how they “should” be read, but luckily Gena’s really good in backtracking enough to let a new reader who’s started with a newer book figure out what’s going on.

Lise November 23, 2011 at 6:02 PM

Ive just found your page while looking for reviews on The Lords of the underworld series.Im Very glad i found it. I loved the BDB series and can’t wait for thors book but Genas books will keep me happy till then,.Thanks for your book reviews they’re brilliant :)

Thank you Lise!! Gena’s books are extremely popular, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy ‘em. Nothing beats BDB for me, but there are plenty that come close. Have you read Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series yet?

Lise November 24, 2011 at 7:08 AM

Shellie February 10, 2012 at 4:10 AM

Love Kresley Cole’s books, she praised Gena Showalter’s books so, while waiting for Lothaire to come out, Amazon Kindle offered me her first LOTU book for 0.99¢ and that was it. I’ve read them all and have pre-ordered The Darkest Seduction. NOW I can read Lothaire. Plan to investigate JR Ward, Sherrilynn Kenyon, Karen Marie Moning, and Alexandra Ivy after reading some of these comments. Thanks for the recommendations People! Appreciate it!
