So what’s it about?
Sidney York has a broken heart. After being betrayed by her long-time boyfriend, she makes a spontaneous decision to transfer mid-semester. College is supposed to be fun and she’ll be damned if she lets a guy ruin it.
Ryan Wilkes doesn’t have a heart. He’s rude, entitled, and couldn’t care less who his destructive behavior hurts . Truth be told, he enjoys the damage it causes.
When Sidney meets her new roommates, everyone is welcoming except for one. The moody guy downstairs whose attitude is warning her to stay away. But Sidney’s pain is like a magnet to Ryan, and he intends to find out why.
** Author’s Note: This book contains content that may be sensitive for some readers. Themes such as cheating, emotional abuse, and assault are depicted. If any of these are triggering, I’d skip this one. You’ll get a HEA, but you might hate me until you get there.**
1. The Fastball series follows three college baseball players who are also roommates.
2. Ricochet is the first in the series and is a darker, college bully / sports romance hybrid. I didn’t have a solid plan when I started writing, and I just went with it.
3. This book was never meant to be published. It was something I would write when I was struggling with what I was supposed to be writing. I ended up finishing it in a little under three weeks and that was over a year ago.
4. I don’t like to give a lot away, but there are triggers in this book readers should be aware of. If themes such as cheating, emotional abuse, and assault are triggering –I’d skip this one. You’ll get a HEA, but you might hate me until you get there.
“You like not answering my questions, don’t you?”
I laugh. “You want me to tell you that I find you attractive?”
“No. I want you to tell me something true.”
I hold his stare, even though I want to shrink into the floor. The intimidation I feel when he’s around isn’t out of fear—I like the way it feels. It’s becoming something I crave from him.
“Yes, I’m attracted to you.” He steps even closer, invading my personal space with his overwhelming presence. But I keep going. “It’s not the only criteria I have for choosing a boyfriend, though.”
Ryan nods. “So, you don’t like me as a person. Cool.”
He starts to turn away from me, but I reach out and grab his shirt. He looks down at my hand and back at me.
“I didn’t say that either,” I whisper.
I don’t let go of him and my knuckles brush along the hard muscles of his stomach. They tense under my touch.
I pull my hand away and his tongue darts out to wet his lips, and he steps even closer. “Let me get this straight. You find me attractive and you like me as a person, but you don’t want to date me?”
“I don’t even know you.”
“Is that something you want? To know me?”
The way he fires questions back gives me little time to think. This is happening too fast. I didn’t come here to get involved with someone new, and I sure as hell didn’t plan on falling for a guy who I can’t figure out. He’s like a puzzle I can’t solve and a part of me thinks it’s because he’s missing an important piece.
Even so, I do want to know him.
“We can be friends,” I say, finding my voice.
He chuckles under his breath, the darkness in his eyes turning them almost black. “Friends. Is that what you think we’ll be?”
