With the recent spur of many fanfic favorites being traditionally published, I thought it would be fun to post our favorite “fanfics” list. Like I mentioned in a recent post, I had a thing for fanfic, once upon a time. I continued my infatuation with my favorite characters and although I was reluctant to read stories about a specific series from “other” authors, I was actually enthralled and entertained by a number of these (some of these stories are really detailed, well written and as long as a book!):
Here are a few of my favorites that started out as fanfic:
- Book Review – Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James
- Book Review – Wallbanger by Alice Clayton
- Book Review – Sempre (Forever) by JM Darhower
- Book Review – Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia
- Anna Todd – The After Series Reading Order <— I haven’t read these yet but they’ve just been picked up by a big publisher and this series (as a fanfic) was all the rage, I hear!
- Christina Lauren – The Beautiful Series Reading Order <— I haven’t read these yet either, but they’re now with a big publisher and EXTREMELY popular!!
Hopefully, some of these reader favorites will help “hold us over” until the next installment is released.

Nancy: Really a good one was FINAL WISDOM by Fuzzy Peaches 1. She had breast cancer & custody of her nephew plus moved nextdoor to a MC member.
Darla: What is now known as Innocents (Dusty Book 1). I LOVE it
Nancy: I didn’t know that Dusty started on fanfic! I read Innocents (Dusty Book 1) which ended in cliffhanger, read book 2 Delinquents (Dusty Book 2) which ended like “What?” Is that all there is or is there more? I want to know!
Darla: Haha! I know the feeling! I read the fanfic version and the published versions. As far as I know, that’s the end of their story.

Danette: Oh i got one! I read it years ago but it really stuck with me. Everclear by Chandler1200 Bella’s a rock star singing Evenescence songs.. if you listen to the songs while reading it really takes it to the next level.. wow!.. now I think I’m gonna re-read on xmas break!
Melissa: Wide awake by Angstgoddess003 on live Journal is a twilight fanfic classic. Shadow boxer is also really good. Elemental and Written in the Stars are fantastic. Hit by Destiny… I could make you a huge list of fantastic ones. There is a lot of really really good writing out there.
Melissa: Everclear and the sequel are great!!
I’m never aware that something is fanfic until it is pointed out. So, I had to look up what Sempre & Wallbanger are fanfics of and it came up Twilight.
I have to admit I do not understand as I really do not see the similarities. Maybe the good girl/bad boy trope? But that has been around forever.
I would love it if some fanfic fans could explain it as it is an area I’m completely ignorant of.

It honestly broke me. I am broken. It spurred the worst book-slump of all time. It’s one of my top five of all time, easy. I read it in October and have yet to see the end of this slump. Read it! We can be broken together!
…I literally just sighed, again.

One more thought/suggestion. E.L.James really hit the mother lode in 50 Shades-sales, movie, fame and fortune. I really liked the books, but in the spirit of fanfic I read the funniest “review” EVER. I cried. I accidentally found it from your authors who tweet info. JennyTrout.com reviews 50 Shade chapter by chapter with Twilight references.
Bev – I don’t know a thing about it either. Until someone points it out, I am clueless. I mean, seriously… almost ALL romance novels are about a girl and a bad boy – so how is that Twilight fan fiction? What does that even mean? Maybe that Twilight inspired a bunch of housewives to not just read more, but write as well? Just an inspiration?
I had no idea that some of my favorite books ever were fan fic until I was told they were. I love fan fic because a good story is a good story. The only fan fic I ever saw similarities with the original was Poughkeepsie, and even then, I was so engrossed the story that someone had to point them out. I say, “Go, fan fic, go!” I love it!
So, are all of those Twilight fanfic? Either way, how exciting for the authors to start off writing their stories as fanfic and then to have them published!
All I know is that I’m going to be reading Dusty *very* soon after reading the reactions to it. 😀
Oh wow, I already have Innocents (the first Dusty book) sitting in my Kindle app. *snort* Guess I thought it looked intriguing at some other point as well. 😉
Offside by Shay Savage is a great story. I too am oblivious to fanfic but I’m finding out that’s where so many great books originate! Wow!!
I have no problem with it as apparently I read more than I know. I just thought that fanfic was to have more stories of the characters you love but of the few I think the characters do not seem that similiar
From what I’ve ever heard it seems like a very vibrant community with strong fandoms. I just wish I understood it better.
Yeah I just looked too Amy and I have the first Dusty book so it caught my attention but had no idea it was originally fanfiction. What is it suppose to be for – Twilight?
My all time fave fanfic is called True. It’s a BDB fanciful (don’t tell the Warden how much I love it) where V/Butch are the romantic leads. It’s super hot and has some great Rhage bits it in.

I read a lot of twilight fanfic in the past. Great stories and they are free. They were same twilight character names and physical appearances, but that’s where the similarities end.
Kate – where do I find this “True”??? V and Butch and Rhage??? Now you’re talking……
