YAY KIM!!! She’s back with a favorites list!! I love Kim and she’s been with us for a long time (on our Facebook page, too), and once upon a time… she sent us THIS list Reader Favorites – Kim’s Top Reads for 2015
And now, we get more!!!
But first, some of her highlights over the last year and a half!
Her love of rock stars: I have so many rock star crushes and rocker books are one of my most favourite tropes (hello Jake Wethers). My latest age inappropriate crush is Harry Styles. I love his zero f*cks given attitude, his minxy British bad boy vibes and naughty sense of humour. He’s pretty easy on the eyes as well and if Stevie Nicks can be his BFF, I don’t feel too pervy on the age gap 😉
Her “first” dark read: The Dark Duet by CJ Roberts was my first foray in to the dark side. One book that also took me out of my comfort zone yet was curiously arousing in the same way was Deliver by Pam Godwin.
A slice of her life in 2018 (and boy do I get this!!):
1. Tornado took out the power station in my neighborhood on Friday afternoon putting 187K homes without power
2. I did not have the emergency kit my Dad always warned me to have
3. I will be setting up an emergency kit this week 😀
P.S. I get a total kick out of her being a Libra (and the comment she made in her post below because it’s so true. In fact, some of my very favorite people are Libras. I’m surrounded by the most loving and supportive women and each one is a Libra).
My books are listed in alphabetical order as the Libra in me does not like to hurt feelings!
Top 5 for 2019
Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid ~ What a unique and interesting concept for a book that reads like a documentary. I heard that the Audible version was incredible but my 3 second commute to the home office doesn’t lend itself to audio books. I loved this book and can not wait for the Amazon adaptation.
F*ck Marriage by Tarryn Fisher ~ I would probably read a book of chants if Tarryn were to pen one. This author for me is the one with all the words. She tends to bend your mind and take you out of your comfort zone yet reward you with original well written stories time and time again. TF is on my dream dinner guest list with her bestie CoHo.
METHOD by Kate Stewart ~ Kate was a new to me author when I read Drive a couple years ago. Since then, she has become a must read author for me. I really loved this interesting take on the lengths a method actor goes to in order to stay in character for a film. We’ve all heard the horror stories from set and Kate interpreted it perfectly in this difficult at times to read book.
Regretting You by Colleen Hoover ~ In my mind Colleen and I are besties. I look nothing like Tarryn unfortunately and I certainly don’t write amazing books like her but we share other similarities including a black heart so obviously Colleen is my imaginary bestie. She is one of the most kind-hearted, generous, hilarious public figures and following her on social media brings joy to every day. Another must read author for me, Colleen is the queen of character development. This story of love, loss and forgiveness hit me right in the feels as her books usually do. Colleen is on my dream dinner party list with her real BFF Tarryn.
The Nightingale: A Novel by Kristin Hannah ~ What was I waiting for!?! This book sat on my Kindle from the time it released until June of this year. I am typically not drawn to historical fiction but this story held my interest from page 1 and rewarded me with one of the best written stories I’ve ever read. I truly hope this movie gets made!!!
Overall, it’s been a great year for readers. Thanks to all the authors for sharing their life’s work with us and thanks to you Maryse for a providing a great place for recommendations and fun times!
