Reader Favorites – Top Five Favorite Books…

November 19, 2016 By Maryse 32 Comments

This is sort of a hybrid post. A mix between a reader question and of course, reader favorites! Our favorites!

One of our fellow readers is asking TWO questions (book-related), and I think we’ll have fun with this one.Β πŸ˜‰Β She’s making her list, from OUR lists and she asks:

Milissa: “Ok Maryse I would like to see if I can get everyone’s help. I am making my Birthday and Christmas wish list. I would like to see if everyone could send me their topΒ 5Β favoritesΒ books. And let’s see if we can not duplicate each other. Next is I am asking for every to tell if they could have author signed books who and what book would they get?”

Maryse:Β Great questions – their top favorite 5 books of any genre?

“The Man I Love” is one of my favorites.

And I don’t know why I can’t like “Thoughtless”. Read it twice just to be sure.

This wasn’t a 2016 read, but a book I’m pretty evangelical about is “Kitchens of the Great Midwest.” If you’re a foodie, I think you’ll really love this quirky novel. But I recommend it to everyone.

I know I picked all series instead of standalone books…but when we are talking about all time faves, I love series more. You just can’t get the same “feel” out of a single story that you can from an entire series.

Love the top 5 lists. Now I have a go-to when I need a new book. I’ve read and loved a lot of the books listed, but I’m kinda surprised “How to Kill a Rockstar” by Tiffanie DeBartolo was not included on any list. Anyways, thanks!

Jenn…you need to jump on the KA bandwagon ASAP…she has a ton of series so it can feel overwhelming…characters from one series may appear in another series but overall you can read them in any order…my reading order suggestion is this:
1. Rock Chick series (Meet Lee Nightengale and the crew!)
2. Dream Man Series
3. Chaos Series
4. Colorado Rocky Mountain Series (Sweet Dreams …AMAZING)
5. The Burg Series
6. If you like paranormal / fantasy then read her Three Series, Fantasyland Series, and Reincarnation Series (Any Order)
7. Then she has some standalones like Play it Safe and Heaven and Hell…both were really good and I think may have some additional books coming.
8. Magdalene Series (the third book is still coming out but the first two were beautiful and totally KA).
9. Her newest ones are the Honey Series…I can’t wait!
I think I got them all if not most of them…you will not regret jumping in….Enjoy!

Debbie there’s nothing wrong with you. πŸ™‚ We all like what we like (or dislike!) I too have been unable to finish some books that everyone else seems to fav. I’ve tried Thoughtless a couple of times and (so far) haven’t finished. Kellen is cute, though…. πŸ™‚ I want to give it another try, and I will one day. Same with The Man I Love….. Maybe I’ll be in a more receptive mood next time.

Other popular books I just two or three-starred instead of floving like everyone else did are Archer’s Voice, Racing The Sun (dnf, so far), Painted Faces (just read it – 3 stars), Mr President, Idol and Managed, Royally Screwed, Surviving Raine, Dirty (Dive Bar) …. I could go on, but I’m stopping now.

But there are other popular books I love e.g. Kulti, the Beautiful series, Lauren Gilley, etc etc My own likes and dislikes don’t even make sense to me, sometimes! I think I’m just Miss Fussy-fusspot. I do approach each new book with an open (even hopeful!) mind, but if I’m disappointed I will tell the truth as I see it. I don’t like giving dishonest reviews. I always try to say what I really think about a book, even if everyone else floved it and I didn’t.

I will never criticise anyone’s else’s book loves. It’s not my right, and if they flove a book, great! Win-win, for them and the author. But, be not afraid to say you don’t love it as well. Stick to your guns, I say.

Ok….. *puts soapbox away, feeling slightly embarrassed*

Agreed Jan. Our tastes and enjoyment of the books we read are ours. They are personal to each reader, and none of us should feel bad for how we took it in… for how we experienced it (good or bad).

And sometimes, mood really affects our reading experience. Sometimes I pick up a book I’m sure I’ll love (a premise and writing quality that I’ve loved in the past) and it just… doesn’t fit me. Is it that day? That mood? That book? Who knows, but I know I only want to read and finish a book that I’m INTO right then and there. That is why we love reading. Because it’s fun.

And sometimes I’ll pick up a book that is not my norm (not a premise that I’m usually attracted to) and it will end up being a forever favorite.

Sorry, haven’t read the whole list yet. I’m a paranormal and fantasy romance kind of girl. Did antone include the Steal The Light series by Lexi Blake? Soooo good. Also the Darkest London series by Bec McMaster. I love her writing. Lots of tragic male heroes and feisty females. Kate Elliot wrote a YA series called Cold Magic, also very good, imaginative and unique. Oh and the Elders and Welders series by Margaret Foxe. A Dark Heart is my most favorite of that one.

Yeah Maryse, that mood thing has happened to me too. A book I didn’t like much when I tried it the first time around has sometimes seemed much more enjoyable when I gave it another try. So I do usually give my dnf’s a second chance a few months later (unless they were *really* bad……….)

And yeah, don’t you love it when you find a new, unexpected fav just out of the blue? e.g. Lauren Gilley was that for me πŸ™‚

And!! Here's the original reader question (plus 4 different books were guessed for it): www.maryse.net/reader-questions/reader-question-the-book-about-the-girl-that-works-at-a-cafe-and-...

Couple of details wrong in the question, if this is indeed the book/answer. The H goes to the coffee shop (Grind Me), not a cafe, once a week (not daily) on his way to volunteer. It's a great, fun book.

Loved this book so much.

I’m sure this might be a Shayla Black book πŸ€”perfect gentlemen series I wonder πŸ’

This is one of the reading app stories, not available as an ebook. I've gotten the FB ad for it a few times, but I can't remember which app it was. Hinovel, Readict, etc.
