It would seem I have been depriving some of you. *gasp*!!!
Β I read this series back in 2010? 2011? and freaked out over it. I consider it one of THE BEST paranormal/urban fantasy (actually it’s more “urban fantasy”) series out there EVER.
But some of my latest and greatest “blog crew” have only arrived here, Β recently. Or at least, after my huge paranormal stint. And some of you paranormal addicts haven’t even heard of this one??!!!! Β FOR SHAME!!! —> And I’m to blame.
So I’m recapping. π
READ THIS SERIES!!! This one’s up there, for me, with the Fever SeriesΒ in awesomeness, intensity, fear-factor, and a BAD-ASS & believable,Β heart wrenching (OMG HEARTWRENCHING!!!!)Β devastating love triangle, that’ll make you cry and fume and freak. And DON’T even get me started on the bad-ass heroine that has a SERIOUS problem… which keeps messing with her life. Β You’ll see.
Her pain = our pleasure. I know. We’re mean like that. π
This series? TOTALLY re-read worthy. Even though I’m not devouring the whole urban-fantasy thing right now, I still get chills when I think about this one and would totally re-read it.
Niki:Β Iβm reading Pierced right now and last night I was thinking that it kinda reminds me of Downside Ghostsβ¦not really the magic part but the heroine. Thanks Amy for the recommendation!! Iβll.keep you updated!
Laura:Β Ooooo get the peanut ready Bev lol sheβs pretty badass in this book kind of reminds me of the Downside books but I think itβs just the magic and I think from the romantic aspect it will be a very slow burn?
Maryse: I HAVE read βThe Downside Ghostsβ and I LOVED that series like crazy!!!!!! Have you guys read it? One of the best slow-burn, intense, devastating, tragic and painful and exciting, HOT, made-me-cry love stories.
Michelle: Downside GhostsΒ is fantastic I agree Maryse. I just did a reread of the series all back to back since a new book is suppose to be out at the end of this year or early next. Such a unique, really truly unique take on urban fantasy/pnr. Terrible and Chess are fascinating characters with no comparison. Book 4 is my favorite but yes the drama centering around their relationship is spellbinding!
MichelleS: Downside Ghosts? How did I miss that? It sounds so EiT like. So, go back and read it now?? huh? huh? Maryse? You know my tastesβ¦..
Maryse: MichelleS YOU WILL LOVE TERRIBLE. OMG OMG OMG!!!!!! Book fog extraordinaire Iβm telling you!!!!! And heβs not your typical βsexy bad boyβ and heβs just human, but heβs an enforcer for the head gang in her city (all scarred and scary looking and bad-ass and MEAN as heck!!!!) and his gang (there are two opposing gangs), but HIS gang has to hire her to βde-ghostβ the place they wanna use for their criminal activities.
Oh AND WAIT until you get the backstory of these ghosts that are terrorizing the city. An entire series of this!!! You guys. SERIOUSLY. Best Paranormal series ever. And sheβs just human tooβ¦ but with some magical ability (a rare one able to handle the ghosts).
Amy: My interest was piqued when yβall started talking about Downside Ghosts, then I read thisβ¦βOne of the best slow-burn, intense, devastating, tragic and painful and exciting, HOT, made-me-cry love stories.β MAGIC WORDS!! Click! And how is it Iβve never heard yβall talk about Downside Ghosts until this weekend?!?
bev:Β Amy, have you never hear of them? Probably cause they are traditional published and your all, βDude, I only do indie.βΒ Β
They came out a few years ago. Everyone was going crazy. I think one of them even has a scene that everyone loves & references.MichelleS: Exactly, Amy! Everybody knows Iβm a nut for paranormal and urban fantasy & have pimped out every series I love. And this has gotten no mentions before. Published in 2010? What. The. Ding. Dong? I am sooooooo on it, though.Β Bev: YES! Of course itβs Hawaii. Maui, Kaβannapalli. Loading up my kindle!!! Just hope this new Ghostie thing makes it. Sounds like I may read it before then. Best PNR ever, says Maryse. And Iβm supposed to let it sit there? No way.
LOve this series, read it because of you. And… love, love T π
OMG T is up there for me with Z and Travis.
Well, fiddlesticks! I just have to read it now. It will never make it to Hawaii. You owe me a Hawaii list after this. How did you keep this locked up for the past few years, since I joined this blog? I haven’t even heard a mention before!
Speaking of…. you may not be on a PNR or UF kick now, but every once in a while you really must pick one up. You are missing out, girl. Look at all this love and angst and emotion and squeeing you have done for PNR and UF. You just know it’s still in your heart somewhere. These are the guys you secretly love. So I say you should make it your mission to read one UF or PNR a month. How about it? A dare from the crew that still loves this genre enough to buy this series based solely on your excitement up there.
I will report later tonight cause I am all in now. So excited……
*wiggles*
π
I Gots Terrible Fever. We must use this from now on, with whatever hero takes our fancy.
“Breaks legs and stuff, ha ha”~o_O
“Gisele-yeah I can understand that” lol.
I once used KA type speak. Got some looks.
LOL!!!!!
My mom is so “chill” when it comes to “bad guys”. LOL!!!!! π
Ummm… do we still say … “chill” ? *blush*
*snort*
Wow! That was a while ago. Downside Ghosts series is one of my all time favorites! Chess and Terrible have some of the best scenes ever. Is it physically possible to hold your breath and gasp at the same time? Cuz I kind of feel like that’s what’s happening whenever I read these two. Some of the most heart breaking and swoon worthy moments in these books. And I would never have known about this series without your recommendations of what to read after the Fever series. So thank you!
I am floored by the consensus on the greatness of this series…so GIDDY over starting it!!
Um…”chill” is probably up there in popularity with “giddy”…but whatever! We speak how we want ’round here! π
That’s how we do, Amy.
That’s how we… do.
π
Really MichelleF??!!!
You got it from my Fever list? AWESOME!!! At least my blame has lessened slightly…
My poor deprived fellow readers that haven’t even heard of this series yet. You are all in for a WILD ride.
Wow, I’ve never even heard of this series. Running, flying, one-clicking to Amazon.
Great series that I haven’t read in a while and I know I got the rec from you Maryse…thanks again. What caught my eye was a reader commenting they never were interested in a drug addicted main character….this type of weakness in a character usually turns me off too but I really love Chess. And she is so not weak. One of the strongest MCs I’ve read.
I still can’t believe it didn’t get mentioned earlier. You’d think it would have been… I know I’d remember a guy named Terrible!! LOL. Can’t wait. had company all day and that’s all I kept thinking was HURRY UP AND LEAVE so I can read already. Just started… yay…. the guys talk weird. Sound like they are in Nah’lins or somethin’…. are they?
I’m at 17% now – so let me ask – there will be some explaining or world building eventually, right? I feel so lost – I keep thinking I skipped a book or something. There was a ghost attack in 1996? And it’s 30 years later? and the Church is now in power? and she works for them? Getting rid of ghosts? And Terrible is a human, with a crazy accent? But there’s other guys too – some guy with long black hair? so who am I wanting her to hook up with? Am I getting ahead of myself???
Yes Michelle it will explain the world building as it goes and u probably won’t root for terrible at the start as Ido remember in the first couple of books she Was pretty mean on terribles appearance but yeah put the breaks on the romantic side of it because it’s a very slow burn very slow!
I devoured this series a few months ago when you mentioned this series. I finished the fifth book and nearly cried when I found out that there was a sixth book. Then almost cried again when I found out that it’s been 3 years and the release date is still TBA. Part of me wants to hunt down Stacia Kane, lock her up in a basement and be like “here’s a pen and a stack of papers. You can’t leave until you finish writing this series!” while another part of me just wants her to write an amazing sixth book. But I’m so obsessed with this series that I check back every few weeks to see if there’s an update on the sixth book. But still no luck.
I’ll keep us updated!!! π
MichelleS… just keep reading. It is confusing at first somewhat, but still nerve-wracking and exciting, and it will all come together soon enough.
