UPDATE!!! Here is my LATEST 5-STAR REVIEW —> Book Review – The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar (consider this and that one to the left, my own personal AWESOME-READ recommendations this week). 😀
Happy Friday and I wish you all a weekend of delightful reading and relaxation! Or at least nice, long breaks of it. 😉
AND!! THIS one, up there to the left is on sale, (super-bargain priced!! ) I knew I had to post this now. ‘Cause you know how much I LOVED this book! (Here’s my review). This is a MUST READ (AND A STANDALONE) my friends!!! He’s young, sexy, successful… and now he’s blind and so angry and reclusive. And she’s the assistant hired to help him… OH YES!!! You can imagine the fun she has to deal with.
But! There’ve been some great looking new releases over the last day or so, and the recommendations are coming in, so stick with me and keep checking back. I bet you’ll find your next great read right here. 😀 So many books below are super-bargain priced!
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
EBOOK BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order).
- RUSH (City Lights: New York City Book 3) by Emma Scott <— BLIND ANGRY RECLUSE & HIS NEW ASSISTANT ALERT!!! ONE OF MY FAVS OF THE YEAR ALERT! And at a rock bottom price!! *squeeeeee!!! happy dance* 😛 😀 P.S. It’s a standalone, I promise! Although Claire says the first two books in the series are great, too! “You can read them separately, I read Rush first – loved it then read the other two. They’re all amazing and beautifully written.”
From Dust by Freya Barker <— JUST RELEASED & SOUNDS ANGSTY ALERT! (he owns a pub, single divorced father and finds her on the floor of his pub bathroom… and she’s a mess…) and HIGHLY recommended by Kim: “Hi Maryse! I am not normally one to reach out with recommendations and I am not sure what your process is for recommendations, but I have found an author that I really feel is a bit of an undiscovered gem and I wanted to reach out to you in case you would like to check out her work. Her name is Freya Barker and her latest book From Dust just went live. It is her first standalone and it definitely had a firm grasp on my heart in more than a few places! It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster but I loved it and I know you enjoy books that just grab you with the feels too! Her characters in this book (and her previously published books in the Cedar Tree series) are all over-30 adults which can be refreshing to read about in terms of maturity level and the problems they face, but they also just come across as real if that makes sense (real flaws, emotions etc.) And she writes some great steamy moments too!! I am probably doing a poor job communicating why I love them so much without going into a ton of detail, but I think you would enjoy her books based on some of your reviews. From Dust is a contemporary romance while the Cedar Tree series is more romantic suspense/ action. I hope you will check them out if you have a minute! Here is the link to Amazon in case you are interested, and have a wonderful day!“
- Friends Forever – The First Half by Ariadne Wayne <— JUST RELEASED!! 3 stories in this series bundled into one book about best friend and lovers… sounds so good!

FORCE: Alpha Badboy MMA Romance by <— JUST RELEASED!! LETHAL MMA FIGHTER & HIS GOOD GIRL BEST FRIEND ALERT!! PLUS! It’s super-bargain priced!! He’s “A tattooed MMA fighting machine with two felonies, a filthy mouth and one violent obsession.” but… “Since the days of pig-tails and skinned knees, I’ve counted on him, loved him and hated him. Because some mistakes cannot be forgiven. Now, he’s gone. I’m alone. The wolves are coming and my own father is pointing them my way.“
- Hiding by Katherine McDermott <— JUST RELEASED & she’s escaping her abusive boyfriend alert! She moves to Paris while he continues to stalk her…
- Kick, Push by Jay McLean <— BIG HIT OF THE DAY ALERT! Just recently released and this one is being LOVED right here, like crazy by our crew… Fabi says: “I’m at 17% of Kick, Push and I have to tell y’all how great it is. I’m laughing, I’m crying, my heart hurts good and then it hurts bad. I am head over heels in love with Joshua. I was even reading parts of it out loud to my daughter last night just because I HAD to share some of the funniest parts. This is heartwarming and heartbreaking all in one. Beautiful, just beautiful…. Kick, Push is NA CR and the best I’ve run across since…ummmm. Hm, I’m have nothing to compare it to other that a slight resemblance to Sea of Tranquility.” and Anne agrees: “Just finished Kick,Push and loved it! Fantastic book! Josh is perfect! He is such a great guy. And Tommy! I love that kid so much! This book gave me all the feels. One of the best books I’ve read this year. Outstanding!“
Starting Fires by Makenzie Smith <— I LOVED THIS ONE & SUPER-BARGAIN PRICED ALERT! She moves in with some new roommates and notices the sky bad boy across the street… a good angsty crush and all that!! My review.
- Flame by Erin Noelle <— JUST RELEASED & HE WALKED AWAY FROM HER ALERT! He’s the top ranked Freestyle Motocross rider in the world, and he’s at his best friend’s wedding and meets the bride’s friend…”It was only meant to be a good time. Feelings weren’t supposed to get involved. I wanted to walk away unchanged. But it was more. They did. And I’d never be the same. Yet, I still walked away…” YIKES!!! grin emoticon Sounds like it could hurt!!
Luke: A West Bend Saints Romance by Sabrina Paige <— JUST RELEASED BAD BOY FIREFIGHTER ALERT!! and over 600 pages AND super-bargain priced!! “I hate bad boys. Especially infuriatingly cocky, womanizing, ooze-sex-from-every-pore bad boys. I’m a mom. A businesswoman. I have responsibilities. The last thing I need is to get played by Luke Saint. He thinks that just because he saved my orchard from a fire, he can tell me how to run it.“
- The Con by Justine Elvira <— HE’S A CON AND SHE’S IN LOVE WITH HIM ALERT!! Recent release that sounds good! She’s known him since he helped her when she was just a little girl… “I would run into Jagger over the years and I’d watch him as he’d hustle strangers out of their money with his latest scam. He lied, he cheated, and he took advantage of anyone he could. Most importantly, he never got caught. Well, until he needed me to help him pull off his biggest con to date. I thought I could do it…” (and now they’re on the run!!)
BORDEN by R.J. Lewis <— BAD GUY ALERT!! Recently released and sounds kind of dark… “Having kept to herself most of her life, the last thing she expects is to be thrust into the world of infamous criminal Marcus Borden, the dangerous man the entire city fears and loathes. But the more she pushes him away, the more he comes back, taking over her life and stripping her of her control she desperately clings to…“
- The Piano Man Project by <— SUPER-MOODY NEIGHBOR ALERT!! Recently released and sounds darn good! It’s super bargain priced too, and 400 pages! “Honey’s new neighbour – moody, antisocial ex-chef Hal – fails on almost every count. Even though the chemistry between them is electric, he’s obviously wrong for her in every way. But when Honey discovers the devastating reason for his moods she decides to give him another chance…“
- A Beautiful Kind of Love (Choices Series Book 1) by Ellie Wade <— BEST FRIENDS & DESTINY ALERT!! They’ve known each other since they were babies… but: “What we have is so rare, one would think our story would be written, our fate sealed. But, unfortunately that’s not how life works. Life offers us many choices that can turn destiny into chance.” super-bargain priced today!!
- Crossroads by Riley Hart <— M/M ROMANCE – THEY ARE BOTH STRAIGHT ALERT!! Back on the list ’cause Nicole went NUTS for it!! Actually so many did (and I LOVED this author’s other M/M romance book…). Nicole says: “…read at my desk all day
finished Crossroads by Rilet hart and it was awesome!!! Sweet hot and hilarious!!! Everyone needs to read this book! I am going to read Him next! But I can’t imagine it being as good as Crossroads!“
- Collide (Blackcreek Book 1) by Riley Hart <— I LOVED THIS M/M ONE ALERT!! And here’s the one that I read and loved by the same author. (my review)
- Him by Elle Kennedy & Sarina Bowen <— M/M that was AMAZING ALERT!! HOCKEY PLAYERS!! *waggles eyebrows* And while we’re playing in the M/M section, Jennifer confirmed that HIM was amazing!! “More recommendations: HIM by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowmen is amazing. Hockey players. And Crossroads by Riley Hart…GFY x2…awesome sexy stories.”
- Cale (Walk Of Shame #3) by Victoria Ashley <— This recent release went on big time sale! Or it is until my life spins unexpectedly out-of-control. Then he’s there for me, offering a new method of survival, one based on following primal urges and desires that requires me to abandon my constant need for control…”
47 Things by Lilliana Anderson <—TEAR-JERKER ALERT?!! Back on the list ’cause it’s super-bargain priced right now, and the reviews are AMAZING!!! ALL 5 stars except for one… and that one super-low rating made me skim it, and actually made me want to read it more… “There would be a total of forty-seven things that sucked me into Tyler’s life then forced me away. Forty-seven things that ruined me forever. Forty-seven was never going to be enough…” But if you like going in blind, DO NOT READ THAT REVIEW.
- Text Appeal by Lexi Ryan <— SHE SENT TEXTS TO THE WRONG GUY ALERT!! Super-bargain priced and now the sexy bad-boy poker player is playing back… “When Riley discovers the naughty messages on her cell have been coming from Charlie, not “Mr. Right,” she falls into a hot affair with the last man she expected. But consorting with the notorious bad boy puts her hard-won reputation on the line…“
- Undeniably You by Jewel E. Ann <— SAVED BY A NAKED POOL GUY ALERT!! LOL!!! Shirley just pointed this one out! “Another one is Undeniably You by Jewel Ann!! Highly recommend!” It does sound like so much fun!! “When her aunt and uncle need a house and dog sitter for thirty days in Palo Alto, Sydney can’t turn down the chance to be closer to her sister in L.A. Within twenty-four hours of her arrival, Sydney’s cleaning up runny dog poo, taking an uncooperative pooch to a handsome yet awkward vet, and being rescued from the bottom of the pool by a naked “pool guy.””

And for AUDIOBOOK LOVERS
For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free ebooks deal —>
- AND! Here’s the fun-tool again! —> Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as AUDIOBOOKS AT A BARGAIN-PRICE!<—
Audiobooks for ebook super-sale prices. I’m thrilled with that, and what’s fun is you can flip flop from reading it, to listening to it without losing your spot… This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL! (This is the “Whispersync” thingie).
Okay so MY Matchmaker shows these books in my library with audiobooks that are awesome sounding for super cheap if you already have the ebook:
- Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian by E. L. James <— If you have this one the audible version is “bargain priced” for an audiobook (and even better! If you got in on that awesome sale price) 😀
- The Promise (The ‘Burg Series) by Kristen Ashley <— THIS ONE is on sale in ebook format right now, and to upgrade and get the audiobook? SUPER-BARGAIN PRICED!!!!
- For You by Kristen Ashley <— THIS ONE TOO!! OMG! YES 😀
- Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher <— This one, in ebook format is already bargain priced, but if you also get the audiobook upgrade, the audiobook is even cheaper than that!
- Dirty by Megan Hart <— I LOVED this one in ebook format. If you have it too, you can upgrade to the audible, for cheap!

I one-clicked “Rush”! I love it when a book you love is bargain priced. Those are always my best bets.
Oh you’ll love it MichelleS. So well written, and it had me crying… I love angst!!
I am still lost in the world of Tristan and Danika…
Oh I LOVED that series….
Aug. 11 is Indebted series 5, Fourth Debt by Pepper Winters. Yep, I’m insane for the series and already pre-ordered it. 🙂
YAY! Okay let me add it in… 😀 Thank you Tessa!
Maryse, you are *killing* me here. My TBR pile is already 50+ books long, and it’s getting longer by the second!!
Kick, Push; The Con, From Dust, Hiding, Borden, Text Appeal, 47 Things… all of them are making my finger clicky… gah, the list is crazy today!!! (is today payday…please say it’s payday LOL!)
LOL!!!!!
Payday is my favorite!!!! And yes, today’s list is exceptionally “right up our alley” looking…
I’ll be posting my review of The Paper Swans tonight likely. Very good too!
Brown eyed Girl by Lisa Kleypas comes out on Tuesday.
Ohhh thank you bev. Okay I’m adding it too!
1-clicked The Piano Man Project…..i like jerky neighbors! Lol!
Also got Cale (read book 1 and loved it and already have book 2), 47 Things, From Dust, and this was after I swore I wasn’t going to but any today, but how can I resist!
Thanks Maryse!
Still reading Kick Push and really want Maryse to read it! Paper Swan is next and then Rush, if I don’t get squirrelly…..
Hey Amy!!! Look at number 11 in pre-orders!!! It’s Tyrant. YAY! See? I told you it would all be fine. All that foot stomping and finger pointing and huffing and puffing was for nothing. We all get our answers in 5 days. That wasn’t so bad now, was it? Oh, and Maryse…. if you haven’t read King yet, it’s on my short list of favorites for 2015 – it’s my favorite “gritty” book.
I am reading Paper Swans now – I went in blind so this is definitely NOT what I was expecting….. and there are already things that can’t be undone or forgiven, so this better all work out, that’s all I’m sayin’
Ladies ladies ladies….if you think 50+ on your TBR is long let me tell y’all mine is an efing 2,500+ AND I blame it ALL on Maryse and Her LISTS!!!!!!
Ela….. uh…. I hate to be the one to tell you….. but…. you may be…. a hoarder. That’s okay. There are others here with the same problem. No one is calling TLC on you or anything. But seriously… if I had that many I’d be going to amazon to get my next read because it would be too intimidating to go back and figure out why I put that book on my list to begin with. DO you have them organized by subject or anything? Teacher/student, MC clubs, that kind of thing?
Maryse! Thinking of lists *twirling* how about a cheating list? Books like Arsen? I lurved that book and CAN’T find anything close. One series came very close The Cityscape Series by Jessica Hawkins!
https://www.goodreads.com/series/102635-the-cityscape
OMG MichelleS I am such a hoarder *hangs head* and they are ALL OVER THE PLACE I can’t organize them since I didn’t at the beginning I just let it go and gooooooooooo it went!
Did you download them all onto your kindle? Or just in your cloud? becuase if it’s the cloud, then who cares? rock-on…. keep on keepin’ on…. get them while they are free…. and then, when you find your next read on amazon, do a quick check to see if you already grabbed it for free once-upon-a-time. See? problem solved. Don’t feel guilty. Stock pile freebies. (Just on the cloud).
Well um technically they’re all on GR soooooooo not all have yet been purchased/one clicked, thank goodness. Now my iBooks is another story, probably half of those from GR are on there and again all over the place, while freebies are on Kindle again ALL. OVER. THE. PLACE. Along with Kindle purchases! I NEED MARYSE’S ORGANIZATION! Thank goodness for the “search” option!
I’m like Ela, no organization. Just a big pile I dive into and pull a book out of.
I refuse to count them.
Maryse!
Thanks for all the great info! I love when books are bargain priced! I one-clicked “Rush” too!
MichelleS, I was going to start Paper Swans a few days ago. I read the first page and then stopped and didn’t go any further. I was thinking the same thing, that all of this better work itself out or I won’t be pleased. I didn’t continue because I was hoping to hear what other people’s thoughts were before I picked it up again.
:O
*hands bev a random book from the pile* or shall I say lends through Kindle?
Oh no… I have so many books on my kindle I don’t even know where to start. My goodreads list that I just made up a couple days ago…that has 56 books on it… from the past few weeks alone…
I am a book hoarder as well Ela, we can float on the happy river of denial together…with a daiquiri and a cabana boy…and an endless battery supply for our kindles!
Grey! I love the cabana boy idea but he must be hot I’ll take either David Gandy, Charlie Hunnam, Tatum Channing, Ian S. (never can spell his last name)……..hmmmmm who else???? *shhhhhhhh don’t tell the hubs*
Who wants to be my friend on Good Reads???
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1680558-ela
Lol, Ela. I’m going to suffocate under them if I start borrowing too.
I have a stack of 12 or so library books.
The same in my Scribd library.
Random paperbacks stacked in closet.
A kindle
A nook
And I read about 2/3 books a week. Which is not alot for this many.
I do like having options around. Always have, I used to take out 20 or more library books at a time. But in A serious note it’s getting to be a slight, not so good feeling, lol.
And so of course bought 3 more today, 2 yesterday, etc.
I think I’ll not worry about it through rest of summer but then in fall do the gift card budget and the whole read one I have for every new book. I’m always going to be a slightly messy slightly cluttered person, but notice the older I get the less excess stuff i want hanging around. *shrug*
Saying that *I happily dive back into pile.*
BTW. If you ladies see a book I mention and want to borrow let me know. I might not be an ebook but please ask. 🙂
I do Ela, but when I clicked your link it is marked private….. if you are friends with Grey, you can find me through her.
We are all hoarders of books here that’s why we all get along so well. Don’t even ask Amy or Paula how many books they have. I’m at 790 downloaded and waiting to be read!
Jean I don’t know why???? What’s your GR profile? I only am friends with Maryse, I think???
Oh and below my profile being private it says “Add Friend”
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/33429289-grey
That’s me…if anyone here wants to be my GR friend 🙂 (I added you Ela)
Just accepted your friend request Ela!
Maryse, I’ve got another one to add to your “coming soon” list. Cocky Bastard by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward. *squee* love these 2 authors!
Yes Grey! And how about that cover…..yum!
Gotcha ladies!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good one Grey!
I can’t wait for Tyrant cause I NEED to read King!!!!
and me…
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/20663288-fabi
I’m not reading King until its ALL out.
:-/
Ela and Grey – just friended you on GR!!! YAY! That makes a whopping TEN friends on GR. LOL. Oh well… that’s for the best. That way I can see what people are reading that actually have the same established taste!
Okay MichelleS… maybe King is next for me then… :D!!!
Tee hee Ela!!!
*my bad* 😛
You missed me MichelleS so I added you!
Maryse! I hear a giggle in your “my bad”
Thank you so much. I’m a little speechless, which is pretty damn rare for me. I’m gonna have a bottle of wine now.
Just awesome. xox
I try to keep my books organized with GR. Whenever I can’t decide what to read next I add new shelf categories. Or I browse others shelves to get new category ideas until I eventually come across a book that fits my current mood.
Currently I’m reading Lick by Kylie Scott. I’m friends with some of you already on GR. If anyone else wants to friend me https://www.goodreads.com/annapenwick
Same Fabi! Waiting for Tyrant to read King….not touching anymore cliffhanger books! I have so many series yet to finish it’s not even funny and do I remember what happened in the books I did read? A BIG WHOPPING NO!
Ahhhh my dear friend Ela…
Yes… the cheating list has been requested a few times… in fact, lately, so…
Monday? That one. 😀
P.S. To all concerned.. when it comes to books? Maryse has NO organization.
*snort*
Other than this blog… and you know I barely adhere to my own PUBLISHED TBR lists. It’s shameful really.
😛
I LOVE IT!
Omg… Danika just fell in the bathroom…
Thanks Maryse!
Grey!!! I hope you are reading a book (Danika and Tristan) and didn’t just push someone in the bathroom????
” not touching anymore cliffhanger books! I have so many series yet to finish it’s not even funny and do I remember what happened in the books I did read? A BIG WHOPPING NO!”
ditto ditto ditto hahaha
Well Maryse, your blog is as organized as I get with my books too. 🙂 So see? You’re organizing for many of us here.
Yeah! More Goodreads people! I sent a request to both of you, Anna and Ela.
I am slowly organizing. The freebies are slowing down my organizing ability, though. I actually have a collection called Organize Me, which isn’t even the other collection of Unread that need to be organized. Add to that, there are so many PNR and HEA books that need sub categories. *grins* Then there is the TBR now, which is books that sound so good, I don’t want them lost.
I think my organization needs help. lol
Uuhh, Tessa? We seem to have the same wonderful system. :-/
Hahahaha It’s priceless, isn’t it. And my “TBR now” has over a hundred books. It’s not working!
Tessa, LMAO
Oh dear more 1-clicks! And I still have to have a look at the list of one night stand books that resulted in pregnancy as I like those! Ela – wish I just added them to GR, I tend to purchase them all and my TBR list is HUGE! I had to reset my kindle as it was getting way too slow. I don’t have my books sorted either (wastes good reading time!) – I just browse my purchased bookshelf on GR and see what takes my fancy!
GR profile for anyone that wants to be friends -https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/7549120-paula-white
I didn’t get it Tessa, sent you one instead…
Oh dear Paula, it appears you are even worse than me LOL ….no worries once we get all settled into friend mode on GR we can get sorted
Finished Rock Bottom… I don’t even have words. This book… I’m pretty sure my heart jumped out of my chest and threw itself into traffic… My husband just asked me if I was OK… Then shook his head and tossed a box of Kleenex at me. I am broken. They are broken… Its after 5pm and there’s a bottle of wine with my name on it… Where Manny the manatee go? I’m climbing back inside the blanket fort.
Kick Push and 47 Things are up next for me…not sure which one so I’ll probably have to toss a coin again.
*points at MichelleS* Oh no you don’t…I told you, I’m not going to read Tyrant ’cause the CH in King made me so upset and I’m tired of CHs!! It’s a matter of principle! *covertly one-clicks Tyrant* Y’all didn’t see nothin’…mind your business… 😛
Oh Grey…*hands Manny to Grey* And here…*opens wine and pours glass* Wait a sec, I need a sip first. *hands over glass* Okay, there you go. Oh wait, one more thing…*wipes snuffle from Grey’s nose with Kleenex*
Trust us, just jump straight into Lovely Trigger. All that stuff that happened is still going to hurt (it still hurts me after all this time) but you’ll get some healing for that poor, battered heart of yours. Promise. 😉
Since we have been talking of advance buddy reads anyone want to read The Cold-Hearted Rake with me in Oct?
Oh, the cheating ones are so very hard for me, lol. Easier time if the guy does the cheat. I know I have a few in my library frown Aster & Fisher. Sometime.
I started the first T& D book. Should pull it up and finish it. Sometime.:-I
Just one-clicked Rush and From Dust, even though my TBR list keeps growing and growing. Lots of reading this weekend 🙂 Thanks for the great recs!
This has zero to do with these new releases, but does anyone know any news on the Mia Asher sequel to Easy Virtue? Kinda hate when sequels take so long that I forget what happened in the first book. Thanks in advance 🙂
TBR lists are always going to be long is my philosophy, there are always going to be more super bargains to one click than I can get through. (I think I’m at 50, I tried to organise and it lasted 2 weeks).
I’m reading Outlander at the moment and a friend is trying to convince me to read the rest of the series. At approx 1000 pages a book I’ll be in a reading coma for a long time. I don’t think I can do the other 7 books just yet.
I’m attending a book signing event in October and I need to read more books of the attending authors. I think this has to be my deciding factor in what to read next.
Bev, trust me. Just read the T and D book. It’s beyond good and so worth the crying in after Rock Bottom. *hugs Grey* I know. It’s sad beyond sad.
Probably on the Cold Hearted Rake. 🙂
Yes Ela! I swear I’m happily married but I LOVE cheating books (I think I once mentioned something about having a terrible book moral compass). I highly recommend Leyla Attar’s first book 53 Letters for my lover and I’ve also mentioned Last letter from your lover by Jojo Moyes (an ALL time fave) both great cheating books BUT both books where you understand why she cheats, in Arsen she had a good guy at home
I agree, MichelleS – I’m reading The Paper Swan at the moment and it’s not what I was expecting at all but in a good way. Really enjoying it. And that cover is gorgeous!
Aaah, I finished 47 Things a couple of days ago and oh my god. I was the BIGGEST mess reading it. It was just lovely and I definitely recommend it. Just have a box of tissues on hand!
Thanks Amy!
Grey move right into book 3 immediately (after your bottle of wine)!
Bev, I have to look up Cold Hearted Rake.
Jen C, so happy to hear that about 47 Things. I 1-clicked that today and have no idea what to expect.
Had to look at 47 things. Read the one star review titled, “Not Amused”. Heh.
And no not for me.
I did click Rush, Paper Swans, and the mma one. I’m not sure about that one but childhood friends and bad boy/good girl and maybe second chance, cat nip.
Amazing list! Thank you Maryse! *big hugs* I am interested in Starting Fires, Flame, 47 things and Text Appeal.
Bev I would love to BR Cold-Hearted Rake. I am so so excited about this book!
So just starting Obsidian and Daemon is so hot but what a jerk! I already love him lol
Diane M, totally agree, 53 Letters for My Lover and the short novella From His Lips were AWESOME!!
Bev I just read that 1 star review and yeah that book is not for me either. Thanks for the heads up because I don’t usually read reviews 🙂
Bev, I might join you for Cold Hearted Rake. It sounds like an awesome historical.
Diane M, I too am happily married to the hubs and my mini iPad or books! I loved Arsen, I felt she was misguided *my excuse and sticking to it* I read 53 letters and really enjoyed! Thanks for the JoJo rec! I’m on it!!!
Oh no Grey! I haven’t read those *biting nails* but they are on my iPad, I just keep squirreling when knew shiny shows up and Maryse’s lists don’t held…..love ya Maryse! Kisses
Yay! I’ll take maybe and might.
Ok, whoa!
Are there two Fabi s or are you using two different email accounts?
Cold Hearted Rake? *runs to look that up* *no self control*
Ah, a historical with words like “ruthless scoundrel” and “beautiful young widow”… right up my alley.
Okay. I have a plan. I am going to pick one week each month for each of the crazy genres I like. So, for example, week one could be historicals, week 2 could be urban fantasy, week 3 could be contemporary, etc. That way I am not so “all over the place” and I can just go nuts that week for whatever is in that genre only. I think it will make me feel better and make me get back to some great reads I know I am missing out on.
Right Jean?!
I wanted a different ending for Arsen but it was still so good
What I loved about Jojo’s was that she’d been in an accident and had amnesia. She was suspicious that she had a bad marriage and then she found a letter from her lover but he used a pet name when he signed it so she had no idea who he was… I thought it was incredibly angsty and of course Jojo can write
I loved Arsen’s ending.. I just wanted to know… one last thing. 😉
I love kisses! :D!!!
Bev, if you’re talking about GR, there are tons of Fabis
Fabi, on here you have two different avatars. Lol.
First thing first… Finished book 3 of Tristan and Danika….wow. Thank god I survived. Manny may be a little worse for wear, and I may be sporting puffy eyes in the wedding tomorrow … But yeah, I won’t forget them.
Now second… Arsen… I wanted a different ending… Or a second book… That one gutted me like a fish too.
Oh, I do love the angst… And Manny really is so cuddley… And Amy makes really great blanket forts… And it’s Friday??? Screw it, I don’t need a reason, we all love it!
Now I don’t even know where to go from here… Rush… Written in Red… Kick,Push (trying to resist the one click… It is not payday LOL!)
Well I settled on A Pound of Flesh and so far really enjoying it! I was waiting for the sequel, not taking chances with YET ANOTHER CLIFFY
*grins* Finished Magic Shifts and at this point, only one thought in my head. When’s the next one? It was soooo good.
It’s 230 in the morning here…just finished Kick, Push… I have very mixed feelings on this book… Warning, it’s a cliffy! Mostly male POV… Did I mention a cliffy?!? It made me giggle and made me cry… There was a super triggery chapter in there too…for those that may be more sensitive than me. I think my emotions may be a little skewed after Tristan and Danika in Rock Bottom today… Oh, and guess what…it’s a f***ing cliffhanger!!!
Gah, I’m taking Manny back into the blanket fort.
I legitimately have done nothing but read all day… Night friends!
Finished Darker Water and I loved it. Full of angst; my only complaint is I felt the ending was rushed. I did read there will be a novella. 🙂
Haven’t decided what I’m reading next, but thanks Bev for the head’s up- 47 Things not for me either.
Ela and Fabi I friended you on GR. 😉
Sooooo excited Tessa to start Magic Shifts! I have to work half day and then I’m relaxing and on it until I finish 😀
Grey please tell me you meant Kick, Push cause I’m getting confused.
Yes, my 230 rant was courtesy of Kick, Push haha!
Aww Grey hope you got some sleep. That’s why I am not reading Kick, Push until it’s sequel is released!!
So many books I want to read, but of course those are the one’s that haven’t been released yet. That Baby, Four Week Fiance, Before We Were Strangers, Tyrant- then I’ll read King, Seducing My Assistant-then I’ll read Falling For My Boss, Cocky Bastard. Oh why can’t they release them early- always want what you can’t have!! 😉
Wait just a minute! Kick Push has a major cliffhanger???? Fabi??? I thought that was the big numero uno rule??? And you still loved it? In that case, why not read King? At least Tyrant comes out this week! (King has a very “Undeniable” sort of vibe. Did you like that series?)
Yes, thanks Grey for the head’s up!! I’m gonna start Rush today (:
Bev- I finally finished Attachments- I really liked it, I just love her voice and I can’t get enough of the dialogue & inner thoughts. I’ll def read the new one in October with ya
Does anyone know when Gale McHugh’s Amber to Ashes, Torn Series part 2, will be released?
Cindy, I was wondering that too. Have the first book on my tbr list but don’t want to read it until book 2 is out or I know when it will be released.
So many good recs, I don’t know where to start!
Also, I just stumbled on a book I really, really enjoyed. It’s called Informant by Ava Archer Payne. It seems it was originally published as 3 smaller novels, but is now available all together as Informant.
The h is super smart and not at all a pushover. She’s young, 19, but very mature. She’s a college student majoring in science – an anomaly in her family that consists of her single mom and her slightly older sister who is already married with an infant. The brother in law is nice enough, but pretty stupid and useless.
She has a class with two hotties. One in particular she’s attracted to, named Beckett. The other is Cuban, dark and with a sexy accent, and she considers Ricco a friend. Though she can tell he’s very interested in her.
Then Beckett asks her to dinner. And there he reveals who he really is and asks her for help. The DEA needs her help getting close to Ricco in order to gain info on his ruthless drug lord dad.
And the offer Beckett makes is one she can’t refuse.
It is really well written, intriguing and sexy. I love a strong heroine! And I love how the lines are blurred throughout the story. Who, really, is the bad guy? <3
And Fabi, I loooooved Kick, Push. Heart wrenching. I was NOT expecting the cliffie. But I felt like it wasn’t awful. It was the tyoe of ending where I was glad it was over because my emotions needed a break. I really needed to stop crying. My husband really needed me to stop crying. Lol. And I felt like it ended wrapped up enough that I wasn’t tortured by the cliffie. DEFINITELY looking forward to book 2!
@#%£&%£@#&%@%#£@&@%#£@&@
I just saw Grey’s comment that KP is CH
Aaarrrrgggghhhhh
I don’t even want to keep reading it now!!!!
I’m starting to really despise authors who don’t warn readers about this sh!t
Damnit! Do NOT publish a partial book or don’t freakin call it a book. A book has a beginning, middle and END!
GRRRRHHHH
ok…I’m done.
I just read Allison’s comment. Maybe I’ll continue reading it. MAYBE. Not sure yet. Too pissed to know. I feel like blacklisting all of this author’s books right now. There was not even a clue about a CH in the blurb and I actually took the time to read it for a change.
Exactly Fabi, how hard is it for an author to say upfront- cliffhanger or part of series!! Nothing pisses me off more, except maybe authors who take forever finishing a series or keep changing the release date.
You’re right nothing in the blurb, although one review did say CH.
Fabi in all honesty I don’t think the CH is bad. I even thought the book ended like that. I don’t like CH but this one didn’t bother me.
Finished Obsidian and LOVED it!! Daemon is my new favorite BB. Kat is great too! And Dee! Can’t wait to start Onyx!
Cheryl so happy you liked Darker Water! I thought the ending was a little rushed too. Happy to know there’s going to be a novella 🙂
Is the Lux series complete? There’s 5 books in total right?
Fabi, keeping reading. I just finished and it’s really not that bad of a CH. I feel okay with it. I really thought this book was standalone and probably wouldn’t have read it if I’d known it wasn’t, but still loved it and glad I read it! Let me know how you feel when you finish.
Anne you have to read Shadows now…..Dawson’s story…..i feel for him as much as I did for Daemon!
Anne, it is complete!! Wish I was reading it for the first time!!!
I clicked on the MMA one up there but it was kinda confusing in the beginning so I don’t know if I will keep reading; Let me know if you read it Bev…
Tessa, so happy Magic Shifts was good…I’m trying to read Magic Breaks but having a hard time with it for some reason…sigh.
It’s not a cliffhanger like King… I can say that Lol!
Cliffies are killing me. I may start to read old stuff just to know the books are complete. Especially with you all’s recommendations. For me, the book of the week was Rock Bottom by R.K. Lilley.
Here I am,all dressed up, wedding is over and we are waiting for the reception haha!
I debated last night thinking I may read Grey… (After all it is a kick @ss name, haha!) But…Meh , I’m not sure. If you guys could pick me out a book before I get home that’d be stellar, thanks
Well, shoot, ladies. I had a total meltdown because Grey said it was a bad CH and now a bunch of you are saying its not. I seldom read the blurbs, only skim them, and I never read the reviews because I like going into a book blind. I need authors to be upfront, in the first line of the blurb. BUT, in all honesty, I don’t think a book should be published as a “book” if it doesn’t have a beginning, middle and end. To me, a series still has each book with a beginning, middle, and end. I don’t know what to even call these partial stories sold as books, other than a lazy marketing strategy that does nothing but insult and offend me.
Sorry about the meltdown.
OMG Fabi, I just choked on my coffee!!! I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen you rant like that! LOL!!
Good to know about KP not being a standalone with a CH, however slight it may be. I’m just tired of how the stories lose momentum for me when the series isn’t complete and I have to wait for the next book, ya know?
I could still consider KP a standalone….that’s how ok I was with the ending….just sayin’…. Fabi, know how you said you could have used more from the end of SoT, it’s kinda like that.
Anne, I second Jean’s comment that you need to read Shadows now. Dawson…oh, my heart. Daemon is a super hot jerk face, and if you think you love him now, just wait. That man-boy is gonna have you wrapped around his man-sized…finger. 😛 What’d ya think I was gonna say, huh?
I’m a little late to the Arsen topic, but I think I’m in the minority because I was thrilled with the ending. I thought the author had said there would be a followup book about the one who she didn’t end up with (I’m not spoiling THAT one ;)), but this is the same author who scrapped the sequel to Easy Virtue the month it was supposed to be released and started over from scratch…I don’t even remember much about EV other than the last paragraph or so, and I am NOT re-reading EV when I have over 2000 unread books now sitting on my Kindle app. Yep, I hit the 2000 mark. 😕
Niki, are you talking about Force? Just started that today and also finding it a bit confusing. I am forging ahead, but glad it’s not just me.
Jean, thanks. That makes a difference. I’m at 75%.
Amy, I know what you’re saying about thousands on Kindle and re-reading. I find myself re-reading a favorite then feel guilty because I have so many new ones waiting.
Grey, have you read Jezebel? ‘Cause that one is a doozy. 😉
I’m off to go on a lovely “little” hike (in other words, 10 miles round trip…FUN!) and then I’m starting 47 Things…or Kaleidoscope Hearts as that one just snagged my attention again while I was skimming through my books. Have a wonderful day, ladies! 😀
Fabi, “insult and offend me” ,love it. I’m so using this on here now when I get grumpy about books.
Ooh, like Monday’s list….it “insults and offends me” not really but they do usually make me want to rant, lol.
Have fun and drink lots of water Amy.
Grey, hope you have a good time, a morning wedding?
Read Written in Red, visit the courtyard. 😛
Grey – if I recall, you were the one who hadn’t read much Kristen Ashley? In that case, my suggestion for your next read is: Sweet Dreams, or Fairytale Come Alive.
Grey is a FANTASTIC name…. but…. you already know that story! 🙂
Wait! Is Dawson alive?? I thought he was dead!
Grey – and Games of the Heart – that was one of my favorites of KA’s because it had the BEST kids in it. That story was almost as good as the main story! Anyone else read that one? Man. That was good…..
Yes, I actually enjoyed the kids story more, lol. That’s not a dig, I liked the book.
Doesn’t it seem like it used to be more common, a second romance in books between secondary characters? I used to enjoy them.
Anne, Shadows is a prequel to Obsidian so you find out what happened with a Dawson.
Anne, LMAO!!!
Just started Paper Swan….man this author can write! So descriptive and compelling. Hard to put down.
Anna and the French Kiss is 2.99. It was a good read. Liked the Paris setting. Just read another YA about standing on the marker at Notre Dame and making a wish.
I say instead of Vegas we all meet in Paris. 😉
Oh I just saw that Kick Push has a CH and that’s a BIG no for me usually. I think that’s why I didn’t love King either because the ending was so WTH! MichelleS you will have to report if Tyrant is worth the read. Ummm undecided if I will read Kick Push now. I think I might go with a historical next if I can decide on one but for now Magic Shifts is AWESOME. Ilona Andrews never ever disappoints me which is a rare thing!
Going with a historical today, too. Either Butterfly Swords or Captive Bride. I think both were supposed to be my Thursday reads at some point, and then squirrel to something new & shiny.
Captive Bride by who? You know that’s a fairly common title for historicals. 🙂
Tessa, Bonnie Dee. 🙂
Right now trying out a new show.
Maryse, if depressed by horror mom you should cleanse your palate. Try an ep of Gilmore Girls. Unless you have before.
Great mom/daughter relationship
And a hard mom/daughter relationship
Amazing witty dialogue
Coffee
Books
Beautiful small town
Great secondary characters
Romance
Laughter
Angst
Junk food
If I could visit any fictional town it would be Stars Hollow
Excited for a new favorite list on Saturdays now! I love these lists since I know they will be almost guaranteed great reads!
Bev, I’ve never heard of those historicals. Need to go take a peek. I’m leaning towards Not Quite a Husband since I just brought that one up a few days ago and it got me thinking about how good it’s suppose to be 🙂
I know Michelle. I’ve been checking for it. Can’t wait to see who’s next. I started Cut & Run because its a loan so I have to make sure I get it read in the time frame.
A lot of people love that one and her other books, Michelle.
Allison, yes Force was the one I was trying to read…at least it was only .99…let me know if you like it!!! I found I was skimming a lot too because it was just the same thing over and over again…
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-recommendations/reader-favorites-cheryls-top-favorite-books-list.html#comment-358166 A favorites list is up!
Hey everyone… It was a noontime wedding, then a little break til the reception, but now I’m home! Hooray…and nothing to do tomorrow…hooray!
I see Cheryl has a list… I do appreciate everyone’s suggestions too! Yes MichelleS, I’m the one who hadn’t read any KA stuff before I marathoned her Fantasyland series a couple weeks ago. Speaking of…do we know when the last book of that story is gonna be released?
I am actually thinking now…about Thoughtless. I thought perhaps I’d read it before…but I see it still says new next to it on the corner in my kindle…so maybe not?
OMG read Thoughtless now! It’s beyond awesome. Your heart will twist like crazy.
Grey, Thoughtless! Yes! Read it! Read it! Read it!
Thoughtless, it is!
Thanks Tessa and Jean, you made the decision for me!
She thinks Kellan is the drummer… But it’s not, is it? He’s gotta be the hottie with the long sleeved grey t shirt and black jeans…Humina, Humina. Oh man…I love rock stars….
OMG…THOUGHTLESS!!!!!
Holy moly, you are in for some angst!! 😀
Is anyone else as jealous of Grey as I am right now? So she gets to read Golden Dynasty for the FIRST TIME and then like a week later Thoughtless for the FIRST TIME? I’m not sure this is fair. Did I walk under a ladder or something? What the heck?
Haha MichelleS! Yeah I am jealous of Grey right now!
Lol MichelleS
Hey, at least we are all in the same jealousy boat together…anyone want a GREEN apple martini? 😉
I’ll take that apple-martini while I peruse amazon’s recommendations. I laugh at some of the books they recommend. Looking for that next great read….
She is lucky, That series is re-readable a bunch of time.
Apple Martini? I might actually be able to drink that! Though, I’m still working on that White Russian. I’m a wimp when it comes to alcohol.
*giggle* I’ll get your alcohol tolerance built up, Tessa. No problem at all. 😛
This was kinda fun. I’m a Taurus and To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite. But the rest I either have not read and/or never heard of.
https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/What-Books-Should-You-Read-Based-Your-Astrological-Sign-37443677?slide=0
However I do not watch any of the tv shows listed for my sign, lol.
How fun, Bev! I’m a Virgo, and I’ve never read any of those books…nor do I have a desire to. 😕
And the TV shows…the ones listed for Virgo are not for me, but I DO feel like Gemini’s list of shows is more along my lines.
You always find the best quizzes and random questions. 😀
I should read Pride and Prejudice based on my sign. You know, I keep meaning to read that one. I have it, but have yet to read it. Also, Divergent, which I adored. The rest sound blah.
Amy, you can try. I just start getting a slight buzz, put the drink down, and walk away. lol However, in this case, it’s strong. I think I added too much whipped cream vodka.
Oh, and the funny thing is that the description of Virgos for the book list is spot on for me, even if the books aren’t.
I take that back about all of the shows…I loved Nurse Jackie and SOA. 😉
Oh Tessa, hun, don’t EVER walk away from your drink. That’s sacrilege!
You know, Bev. You’d probably really like the Cousin’s War. It’s historical that’s set around the Lancasters and Yorks during the War of the Roses.
Yep. My head feels fuzzy and I stop.
https://www.popsugar.com/love/Reading-Addiction-Checklist-35321603
Alright, it’s fun but inacurate. 23/50 That’s it. So…
The most you read is labels at the grocery store. Reading is not your favorite activity in the world, and if you can avoid it, you will. You haven’t read Fifty Shades of Grey or any of the Hunger Games series because you’d rather watch the movie.
So um… Huh. I learned not to read and walk a long time ago. And yes, I can read and stand at the same time. 😛
32 of 50 Tessa…that was funny. Oh and I’m a Virgo. ..so Wicked….hmmm
Tessa, I got 26 & the same descriptions. Hmm. I carry 2 ereaders with me 98% of the time & add a pb or hb 90% of the time. I have let things burn, missed sleep, missed meals, been late and don’t mind time consuming waits, cause reading time.
But I do not pinterest or belong to book clubs or tatoos, etc. I just read. *shrug* So, yes skewed. I mean you read basically a book a day, lol.
Jean you and Amy have the same sign? Lol.
Wicked is a good story. I admit, I haven’t read the book. I tried, but the writing bored me. The musical was fantastic. 🙂
I swear, I’m surrounded by Virgos! *runs from Jean and Amy*
Yeah, that quiz gives horrible results, but the questions are funny.
Wait, what’s wrong with Virgos?
I am a Virgo too! Will take the quiz when I get to my laptop and not my phone.
I’m a Sagittarius and was told to read The Fault in Our Stars which I own and just walked past the book Friday when I was out with friends and said I need to read that after enjoying the movie…freaky coincidence! Also got the Vampire Chronicles by Rice and Charlotte’s Web which are both awesome so that quiz fit me!
I owe Shirley a HUGE thank you for recommending Undeniably You! Fantastic book, it had humor, angst, some more angst, hot guys and a great ending! Two thumbs up!!
Michelle: well, what a koh-inky-dink…. I’m a Sagittarius too!
I have yet to meet a Virgo that isn’t a neat freak. 🙂 In my family, both my parents, two brothers, two sister in laws, two nephews, and one niece are all Virgos. So, I’m literally surrounded by Virgos.
Both Michelles are Sagittarius? Wow.
Tessa we are both Leo’s *high five* I’ve only read Pride and Prejudice from that list.
Finished Onyx last night and I love this series! So good! Daemon is swoon worthy and seriously how can anyone not fall in love with him?
Don’t throw peanuts at me but I haven’t read Thoughtless *hides* I think I did start reading it back when it first came out but don’t know why I didn’t finish it.
*high fives Anne* Finish it. Did you have issues with the love triangle? That’s some people’s issues. If that’s why you stopped, I get that.
Thoughtless is putting like landmines in my tummy… Chapter 6 … Gah, Kellan is so cute, seriously, he gave a carnival stuffed animal to a little girl who dropped her ice cream (pretty sure my ovaries just stepped up and took notice). And WTF is Denny’s problem… He left her there??? For real…
Anne, I’m not that far in front of you…you can come br it with me!
That is so weird, your all doubling up. I need another Taurus, lol.
I’m liking Captive Bride so far. It takes place in 1870 San Francisco. Her family sent her over from China to what they think is a marriage, but he want to use her in one of his pleasure houses. She runs and finds help in the hero’s mercantile, who is a vet of the Civil War and trying to run for office. They do bot understand a word the other says.
Karma Girl by Estep & Zack by Bennett are .99.
Has anyone read Enclave by Ann Aguirre?
Oh dear… Um… Wine & Tequila…reading with one hand over my eyes, peeking thru my fingers
So I picked that MC series, and went with book one, since that’s what I’m supposed to do… and um… yeah… you weren’t kidding, whoever it was that said it was a “different” kind of MC Club book. The Last Riders is the series, BTW. So aside from the fact that is so completely unbelievable (the entire thing) I still enjoyed it and gobbled it up. It was seriously debauched. I may continue, just not sure, if I can just put aside all judgments about “no no way would any of this ever happen”.
*phfft* stop copying me MichelleS!…get your own name spelled the ‘right’ way, time of birth, book interests…wait what’s your middle name?
Adele- you are so welcome!! It is a great read-it just has everything I look for in a book! I just cant believe more people are not talking about this author. Read the Holding You series. Highly recommend these also. You will love it! Promise!
I looked up some of the signs, you all have exciting ones, lol. I always find mine so boring. I really only look at them for fun, but now curious do you know your Chinese sign? I’m a sheep.
🙂 I love mine, honestly. Before I even knew, though, I loved all cats, so being a lion made me happy. Also the same with the Chinese sign. I’m a fire dragon.
Dragon, that’s so cool. A sheep is suppose to be on the lucky side, I think.
With the bull, some fit. Can be stubborn and easily get in a rut. I do have very close small group of friends, instead of a large number of acquaintances. Hmm. As a child Ferdinand was one of my very favorite books, lol.
Tessa I can’t remember why I didn’t finish it. Maybe I wasn’t in the mood? And then I forgot about it but I’ve been meaning to read it soon!
Grey I would love to but I am totally hooked on the Lux series 🙂
Chinese Zodiac sign is horse. Michelle???? I’m going to eat my shorts if yours is the same. Middle name stars with an A (have to keep my identity a secret – what if I’m in the witness protection program? )
Well prepare to ingest those shorts!
…just kidding! I would have accused you of identity theft! My sign is the dog. Middle name is Lea. Whew I was getting freaked out 😉
Wine and tequila?? Ooooooh, I know what part that is. And NOW the angst really begins!
Why am I not surprised that Jean and I are both Virgos? *snickers* And now we know that Grey is too! Any other Virgos out there? We need to gang up on Tessa and drive her crazy. 😛
Lookie lookie my Sephora-lovin’ friends!!!!
https://www.racked.com/2015/8/7/9115583/sephora-subscription-box
I am all over that when they expand it next year! 😀
Amy, I looked at Virgo and it made me laugh. It said caretaker qualities, now I know why you always are so forgiving of the heroines who drive me nuts, lol. You want to bring them home and feed them and make them feel better. Probably Jean, too, she likes those angsty reads.
Oh and can I just SQUEEEEE for a moment over Magic Shifts! That powerhouse team knows how to write an entertaining top-notch urban fantasy! Now I have to switch genres completely because nothing will stand up to that!
Sephora subscription boxes ahhhhhhhh my life is complete! Why didn’t I know about this???? Sign me up as soon as they are available!
Rofl Wasn’t Magic Shifts good? I loved the little “dinner” twist.
No! Virgos are clean freaks. Yes, loving and take care types too, but still! Too many of them around. 😛
Amy- I’m a Virgo too.
Bev- My Chinese sign is the rat. I fit the profile I just don’t like the animal. I would rather be a dragon or a tiger.
One more. I do want to slowly update my wardrobe and do notice my eye is caught most by fabric, color, and small details like buttons and such. I’m mostly jeans & t. https://www.popsugar.com/fashion/What-Your-Style-Zodiac-Sign-36965942
Whoa, with Anna we really are surrounded by Virgos. Prob because they want to care for all these damaged characters we read.
Tessa, apparently Taurus & Virgos get along well. I think because Ts don’t mind being cared for. When you were talking of neat freaks I’m looking around my house thinking need to befriend some and maybe they will organize my house for me, lol.
Oh. My. God. The gate just slammed behind them *eep!*
I’m late to the party and am a Cancer, the serial suggestion is 50 Shades, got that one nailed! The Outsiders is the classic, I have never read the book but the film is one of my top five films – love it! Matt Dillon is just yum! I’ve not heard of the others, so just off to Amazon to see if they should be 1-clicked…
Just looked and nope none of those other recommendations appeal whatsoever! I will stick with Marisa’s recommendations!
I am not dressing like that Leo! That is soooo not me. Honestly, I don’t even like those clothes. I love colors, yes, but that is too much.
Of course the Virgo looks good and has pretty outfits. *grins*
Well phooey, I missed all the fun. Bev, I’ll join you, I’m a Taurus too. 😉
Finished Thoughtless… Draining my kindle battery and switching to my phone, in the process.
I am, quite possibly, in love with Kellan Kyle… Kiera, on the other hand…that girl has an appointment with the end of my size 8.5’s.
Debating about continuing on with this series… If she hurts him more, I may become violent.
Grey – you need to finish the series!!! It is worth it – promise.
Bev, I’ve read Enclave. Sooooo good.
Fabi!!!! Another Taurus, yay!
Tessa, some of the styles like to look at, but wouldn’t wear any. Honestly they wouldn’t work with my job or where I live.
You guys!! LORAC is coming out with a Mega Pro Palette 2 in December! *happy dance* I love the first one.
Grey, I had the worst pains in my stomach reading Thoughtless, but you should really continue the series just for Kellan. I know Kiera can be annoying! Lol!
Fabi so glad you are Taurus…..now bev has a partner. It is funny about the Virgoes, I do want to save all those broken guys!
I’m reading Rush now and love it! Another broken guy who needs me…..haha!
I *do* like the clothes for the Virgo, and the clothing preferences and suggestions are perfect for me! I love the Cancer outfits as well. And now I want to go shopping…
That makes sense Bev! The h has to be REALLY bad for me to not like her, and I will forgive pretty much anything the h does in a story.
Anne, I’ve never tried LORAC but those palettes are amazing! All of those colors make me want to sit and play with the shadows like a little girl. 😉
Heh, Jean. You take in all the broken heroes and send all the broken heroines to Amy.
Paula, one of my very favorite people in the whole world was a Cancer. 🙂
Ok, time to read, lol. Not sure how I fell down the rabbit hole of the zodiac. :-I
Though, Tessa, Maryse is a lion to.
*whispers*
She likes Virgos & their neat freak ways. *shrug*
She does seem a little Virgo-ish. You sure she’s a Leo? Maybe she’s a mix!
Alright, so I posted something on GR about Goodbye Man if any of you were curious about why I freaked out. And it has to do with more than the “n” thing.
I, uh, didn’t exactly use a filter… 😛
Tessa, a Veo? Lol.
Amy is it an i thing. But I thought you read and liked a book with that.
What?!? No!! Not this kind…this was just disgusting. That other one was understandable. I read another similar one after that and it was presented differently so it was just *ick* but THIS one made me feel like I had worms in my tummy. It was just wrong on so many levels. *shudder*
Oh, and it was an i thing.
Just read your GR review Amy. If you haven’t read LoA, you probably shouldn’t. It’s pretty icky too. Though some of us are morbidly fascinated by it.
“The other one was understandable” ~hilarious.
That’s why I didn’t mention it, lol.
Amy, just read your review.
I do think the warnings should encompass all of that, too.
If you don’t want to be spoiled don’t read the warning. Totally believe in trigger warnings.
It WAS understandable, lol! 😉
Fabi…to be honest, her age factored in a lot but I could still stomach it. It was the i thing and who it involved that finally made me quit. I read Her Master’s Courtesan and was okay so I’m still going to give LoA a shot, if for nothing more than to show y’all I can! 😛
Trigger warnings, exactly!
Honestly, that whole job and the nephew and the cousin thing would have got to me. There would have to be some serious retribution.
Yeah, the I word is a HUGE trigger. The whole thing sounds horrible. All those “five stars” but only a few actual reviews. *sighs* No one is really giving a review for it.
Well, at the risk of this being a spoiler, there’s a little (lot) of all that in LoA. The only redeeming factor is that it is a tiny bit PNR, and most importantly, the hope of redemption.
Fabi, there is “n” & “i” & just going to say it, so spoiler………….
Serial killer in LoA?
I haven’t run across the n yet (at least I don’t think I have – maybe it was in one of the scenes I closed my eyes in) but I’m not done with the series yet.
I’m not kidding when I say TTM has nothing on LoA. And yet, I have to repeat, it is strangely, morbidly addicting. All in the hope of a happy ending.
Did anyone read Heat? That one was pretty bad too. But it had aliens in it (sci fi) instead of PNR.
Haven’t read Heat, but did read After…although that was more sad than disturbing.
Okay, I’m going to try and ask this in code…with the “i” thing in LoA, if it were on a chart would the relation be up and down or side to side? Good lord that probably makes no sense…
Oh, Amy. Rolling. So side is ok????
I have No Country For Old Men on in the background right now, and I have to say that Javier Bardem is not at his hottest in this movie. 😕
*snort* No, LOL!! It just seems worse up and down, especially with one not knowing there IS an up and down.
Side to side…lets just say it’s only understandable in the one book. 😉
Up and down
Side to side > Flowers in the Attic > so heartbreaking
After isn’t in the category of gruesomeness as Heat, TTM and LoA.
Okay, let me ask this…in LoA do both parties KNOW there is a, er, line when it happens?
Read the sample. The second chapter is where I said Nope, DNF. Or, you know, Captive in the Dark. Because it’s dark and I can’t believe you haven’t read it.
Yes
And I’m assuming they are both adults? See, I think about that (both knowing, both adults) and even if it’s non-consensual I think I can tolerate it. The whole thing with GM is that she’s 17, severely abused and has no idea about the line, but he does know and still wets his wick.
Wow, I’m justifying my desire to read the disturbing stuff in LoA, LOL!!
In LoA she’s 16. There are other situations too. It’s really weird, different and its been compared many times to not being able to look away from a train wreck.
Jean and MichelleS have read them too. Jean is finished with the series. Maybe they can describe it better.
Amy, just to be clear. LoA is ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING.
Make no mistake, if you’re human, you will be horrified by the horribly horrific things in that series.
Now that I am HORRIFICALLY scared, I have to say that I need to read it if for no other reason than to save face. 😛
So, I’ve been warned and I promise not to take it out on y’all if it messes me up. 😉
After talking about it so much I now want to get to the next one. It’s been months since I read the last one. It’s time…all because I know, eventually, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I HAVE to see it.
Just finished Opal and I really, really don’t like Blake. I cried a little with the ending. Poor Kat!! This series is so good!!
Awww I love that series Anne.
Life os Anna – my two cents – I literally have nothing to compare it to because it is a level of debauchery that I have never ever read before. It has pretty much every trigger in it, practically. The worst for me, without spoiling it….. nope, that would be a spoiler. The fact that it has some PNR saves it, because then you get to justify that it isn’t even our world, it’s totally made up. And I was promised a happy ending, I think? So I made it through 3 books, with horrible images shoved in my mind for days, which is why it has been a slow read for the series. Like Fabi said, it’s now a morbid fascination. I would never tell anyone I was reading this, and need someone to delete it upon my death so there was no evidence that I ever read it. Yup. It’s that bad!
I LOVED the Life of Anna books and the PNR aspect makes it so much better for me!!!!! The 2 dark books that I could not sleep at night were Empathy and Her Master’s Courtesan, compared to those Anna was a breeze!
I think the PN aspect could make LoA more tolerable as well. No idea why, I just think it would.
And the fact that Ela says LoA was a breeze compared to HMC…well, there ya go. I survived HMC, even if I was a bit traumatized by it. Good lord, if Aiden was my Book Dom then I would have no problems with book ADD!
Don’t get me wrong LoA is definitely dark but there is happy in it PLUS the ending on book 5 made it all so damn worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which goes to show we’re all different. I haven’t read Master’s Courtesan, but Empathy was dark, but easy for me to handle. I can’t handle LoA at all. I would’ve been fine with Desolate too if it weren’t for him messing with the head of those in a mental hospital. That just made me too angry to keep reading.
Speaking of Dark, Fourth Debt is going to be on my tablet tonight! Wheeee!
I’m waiting until that one is COMPLETE *chanting no more cliffies*
I haven’t read Empathy or HMC so I can’t compare LoA to either of those. But, yes, that slight PNR aspect makes a difference. It adds a layer of distance to the horror. A “not real” subconscious that definitely helps.
I like the Indebted Series type cliffies. I like the mystery and not knowing, sitting there pondering what will happen and what’s happening. I guess I’m odd like that.
With all the “dark” books, or the “taboo” books, it’s not so much the level of violence that gets me, it’s the setting or the AGE of the “nonconsent”…. that’s a huge one for me. You don’t hurt little GIRLS. And LoA has lots of references back to her, cough cough. “childhood”…. like way way way back references, if you know what I mean, and if you read them you do. That just killed me. I can’t UNSEE that stuff. *shudder*
OH BOY… I’M BITING MY NAILS! …FOUTH DEBT just popped up on my Kindle. I have broke a sweat and have goosies up and down my arms. I have a feeling this is going to make the others seem like child’s play. I’m so excited! Do I really have to work today? sigh…. 🙂
