Maryse, I need to vent. I’ve just made a second attempt at reading Emma Chase’s new book Overruled…and again given up because I found Stanton the most repugnant despicable male character ever. He made my skin crawl. And Sophia the ‘friend with benefits’ was just horrible.
I feel like Emma Chase has ruined me for contemporary romance because if misogynistic self centred self serving manwhores are the characters being written for us to fall in love with I think Im done!!!! AND female leads who are every other woman’s worse nightmare don’t give me warm and fuzzies either. I just wanted them both to die.
Someone please pleeease recommend a book for me so I can re-fall in love with a book boy. Im feel a tinsy bit nauseous.
PS: On principle I cant finish this book and I’m pretty sure I’ll give Ms Chase a wide berth in future….she should have stuck with her reformed bad boy Drew.

Lisa, I have to admit I still want to read that one, lol. I have been in that position though of not liking any of the characters and not wanting to revisit an author. The Avoiding series is one for me. Though many love it. Then you feel like the only one. * shrug* we all like different ones.
This means we are full of recs, though. If you want to try more contemporary then The Deal, The Hook up and The Mistake are great. Very likable H& h.

I’ve got to say, Affair, loving it! I like the heroine and her thoughts make sense. 35% in and I adore the man she’s having the affair with. It’s just super good. I know angst is soon, but geesh, I still adore Tal even if I’m clueless about who he is.

I’m at 28% and I’m not sure what I think so far. I’m drawn to the story but just like the Kane trilogy not totally loving the writing style. I just can’t shake that there is something else underlying their meeting and whatever he does for a living.
Cheryl I feel the same about his job and their meeting. Something is not right. But I am loving it and can’t put it down!

I am 64% and I love her dad! He rocks! I can’t put this book down! And as hard as it is to admit I understand why she had an affair.
Finished and love loved it! So different and I still can’t get over how it starts out about cheating but that I get her and sympathize even. There’s a couple of WHAT…back up and read again moments and plenty of gushing and girly giggling over Tal…that man is just sexy period. It’s joining my favorites for the year so far…book hangover *sigh*…

Finished! I LOVED it! So glad I read it! Seriously I was so nervous about the cheating part but everything worked out perfectly. Tal was so sexy! I kinda fell in love with him a little. Great book!
I think my next read is going to be Sincerely, Carter.

Stupid real life. Just finished and just happiness. I loved it. All the angst, the eeeps, the ooohs, and even the twist the mystery added. Unless cheating is a trigger, I’d recommend it to everyone. So, so good. Stylo Fantome doesn’t disappoint.

Just read ‘Sincerely Carter’, it was so average and a little forgettable, sorry but i am a little disappointed in Whitney Gracia Williams. ‘Reasonable doubt’ is one of my fav series of the last couple years.
I’ve got to read ‘Black iris’ now, i loved ‘unteachable’ by Leah Raeder.
Thank you thank you ….so much for the recommendations. Smash read The Deal and The Mistake and looooved them….great remedy for my Stanton funk (shudder). And I don’t think it was the manwhore element in Overruled that turned me off….probably more the absent father with the attitude that both Jenny and Sophia were his to emotionally abuse (shudder).
About to start Affair with trepidation (am I up to it)….I loved Arsen and that was pretty brutal. We’ll see.

Bev I loved both the Deal and The Mistake. Really would love to know what you think of Overruled and if you struggle with the cheater (Stanton) and doormats (Jenny and Sophia) as much as I did. So many people have loved it. ???
I adored The Tangled series and hope I can re-visit Emma Chase again one day….but probably not for a while ☺
Just thinking it’s ironic that I’m reading the affair book today since it’s my anniversary!! Hubby just made me breakfast in bed and had our “first song” playing on the ipod when he brought it in, while I was reading the part where she tells him it’s over. *sigh, confused the poor guy with my tears*

I started the second Krinar Chronicles book and so far it is a good change in pace but I’m still stuck on Tal and Mischa…
So, the Affair book…I really liked it, except (for me, at least) it didn’t have enough emotional depth to make a mess out of me and pummel my heart. It was intense at times and had some angst (um, the beach and hotel scene in Positano anyone???), and even though it didn’t give me the heart-gut-ovary punch that I love, it was still engrossing enough that I finished it in a day. *sigh* I swear, Arsen ruined me for all other books like it.
But this, THIS made me snort…

No, I’m not going to squirrel with all these recs. I will finish More Than Him! It doesn’t help that I normally adore Jay McLean’s stuff, but this is the exception. It’s so slowwwwww! I wish it had ended at book two and I could jump into four, but it didn’t. So I won’t know why book four was written without reading this insanely slow, overly whiney ( seriously, they whine and complain too much) book. Grrr
Not today, have so many I need to read, but I need to get back to Darynda Jones’ series. She will be at RT on some panels. I wish could go. I’d love to see Texas. Next year is Vegas and honestly that doesn’t appeal to me as much, lol.
Also, need to get back to Kate & Curran. I was enjoying them so. Not sure why didn’t stay with them.

I really loved the Affair, but agree with Amy on the emotional depth. Didn’t really feel a connection, but i loved the story as a whole and really loved the Epilogue. And of course Tal was a hot sexy dirty talker…. what’s not to love there?

Yep, he is sweet, was an interesting conversation at lunch, when I discussed the “affair” book I was reading and asked his thoughts on open marriage and affairs. * his face- blink, blink* although was hilarious when being a guy he did ask is this the part where you tell me you are leaving me for another woman? and if so can I at least watch! He was joking…at least I think he was joking!! 🙂

@Anne and Fabi, ‘Sincerely Carter’ did read like a YA book, I was so excited about reading Whitney’s next book but i would only give it 2 out of 5 stars. It just seemed rushed, like she wrote a filler novel between her more erotic books and there was no sharp dialogue like there was in ‘Reasonable doubt’. However, I’m looking forward to her next release. i hope the next book is a little more racy.
