First… Happy birthday JEAN!!!! Wow and on a Friday, too. Best birthday day ever! Except for Saturday. That one’s good, too!
We’ve got more book recommendations than new releases today, but that’s cool, right? That means most of these below are tried and true!!! In fact, speaking of recommendations, here is my own latest book review and recommendation (it’s bargain priced!!) if you’re in the mood for a bit of creepy! I love me some creepy stalker psych-thriller reads, and this one was quite the cautionary tale! Good book and now I think I’m ready for a love story. 😉 Tee hee! Here’s my book review of Creep by Jennifer Hillier.
Okay and… as much as SO many here and on our Facebook page are going crazy for author Sarah J. Maas, I’m thinking I need to squirrel and jump into the “fantasy genre” for a bit. Who knows? I might lose my mind over it. You guys are RABID and I LOVE IT!!!!! I wanna be rabid too… So what would you recommend I start with. I don’t have much fantasy experience (I would say, closest “fantasy” I’ve read are Karen Marie Moning’s books) so I’m in your hands, my friends.
Who’s in the mood for taboo & forbidden romance reads? I just added 8 more to this “ultimate” list – Highly Recommended Risqué, Taboo and Forbidden Love Stories (and I’m looking for more to add, in case you’ve read one that you recommend).
Wattpad Freebies! New Adult, Rockers, MMA & Psych-Thriller stories hand-picked just for us… <— Want some freebies? You can read these directly on the Wattpad website.
Oh and… oooooh good deal on this! It’s on sale today. I learned about the Amazon Fire TV Stick from a fellow blogger during Amazon’s “Prime Day” and I had to buy one. Unfortunately for me, it was days after Prime Day and I paid full price but OMG I LOVE IT!!!
It has everything on it (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Movies, Youtube app, all SORTS of good stuff for my tv), and I just plug it into my TV’s USB port. It’s how I became addicted to, and watched the entire series of “Breaking Bad” (on Netflix – GAH SO GOOD!). Loved it! So anyway, passing along the sale info.
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
EBOOK BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order).
- Charlie Foxtrot (Code 11- KPD SWAT Book 5) by Lani Lynn Vale <— JUST RELEASED!!!
- The Tattooed Barista (Lone Star Sweets, Book Three) by Lissa Matthews <— JUST RELEASED!!!
BUY ME by Alexa Riley <— JUST RELEASED & SELLING HER VIRGINITY!! “Stella is desperate, and selling her virginity is her only option to save the family land. The Mistress Auction is her last hope, but when she sees the two men who buy her, she’s worried her heart won’t make it through the thirty days.”
- Fall Fast: Navy SEAL erotic romance (SEALs Undone Book 5) <— JUST RELEASED!!!
- Discovering Stella by K.M. Golland <—- Pat recommends this recent release! “OMG…I just have to tell you about KM Gollands new book Discovering Stella, what an emotional piece of dual POV, so many feels and so natural to relate to. I cried and laughed. And that twist … BOOM. You don’t see it coming. AT ALL. Please read this. It’s a must.“
- A Second Chance at Paris (Bayou’s End Book 1) by Cole McCade <— SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE ALERT!! Jean and Fabi loved it! Jean says: I loved Last Chance in Paris by Cole Mccade and I’m not sure many of you read it here. Fabi recommended it to me and it was amazing! Highly recommend!” and Fabi agrees saying: “Who needs movie stars when there are authors like Cole McCade? (not his real name) When you’re in the mood for a sweet second chance romance read, try Second Chance at Paris. His writing is top notch.“
- The Lost: A Crow City Novel by Cole McCade <— DARK READ ALERT!! And Fabi points out his latest release (but it comes with a severe warning and she says: “I just got chills reading it”) She also says “The Lost just came out this week and I believe it’s the first dark novel he’s published. Although, I do believe he had a story in an anthology with other authors.” and Lisa says: “AND Holy Moly that warning sounds terrifying….I wouldn’t be brave enough to read it. In fact that warning is a trigger for me.*gulp*” Yikes! I’m SO intrigued by this blurb… “Cold. Controlled. Impenetrable. Ex-Marine Gabriel Hart isn’t the kind of man to come running when Leigh crooks her pretty little finger. She loathes him. She hungers for him. He’s the only one who understands how broken she is, and just what it takes to satisfy the emptiness inside. But Gabriel won’t settle for just one night. He wants to claim her, keep her, make her forever his. Together they are the lost, the ruined…“
Jezebel by K. Larsen <— CRAZY-AWESOME STORY/TWIST ALERT!! Speaking of book deals, Kathy just found us this one (and I five-starred it!!), so consider it another one of my personal recommendations! It’s on SUPER-SALE today and what a crazy-awesome ride it was! (my review)
- Revue by K.M. Holland <— SUPER-SALE ON THIS MALE -STRIPPER book! “When freelance photographer, Corinne Lee, is required to visually document the nationwide tour of Wild Nights Male Revue, she finds herself in a world of near-naked, testosterone-fuelled men on stage—not her photographic muses of choice. She also finds herself in the arms of Josh, the revue’s star performer.“
- So Bad (Bad Boy Next Door Book 1) by Kelley Harvey <— recently released super bargain priced and there are almost a hundred reviews all in the 5 and 4 stars realm. “Manwhore—and he’s not afraid to let everyone know it. We aren’t friends, not by any stretch, though I’ve always secretly hoped for more. Then he touches me and I’m lost. But Danny isn’t just an average a$$hole. He’s bad to the core. SO. BAD.“
Sustained by Emma Chase <— LAUGH OUT LOUD/MAKE YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS IN PUBLIC FUNNY ALERT!! And Sharon insists!!! “READ.THIS.ONE! it had me laughing out loud uncontrollably. I looked like a fool on the beach! I hated paying full price for it, but these Legal Briefs are worth it! I have no idea what to read next. Back to angsty? Something light? Thriller?” and Anne agrees! “I finished Sustained and loved it! Jake and Chelsea are perfect for each other and the kids were amazing! I liked this one better than Overruled
Can’t wait for Brent’s story!”
- The Excess Series Complete Box Set by Angelica Chase <— SERIES BUNDLE SUPER-BARGAIN!
- Rook and Ronin: Complete Seven Book Series by J.A. Huss <— The whole sexy series bundled!!! Amy found it for us!! “I’m pretty sure today is the last day before the bundle is deleted from Amazon. Click! I don’t care that I already have three of the books, and I don’t care that I’m falling for a marketing ploy…that is a GOOD freaking deal!!!
” and Jean is happy! LOL! “…thanks Amy, I got that R&R bundle even though I had the first 3 too. Just the threat that it would disappear on Amazon had me twitchy! Lol!“
- Pure Abandon (Abandon Series) by Jeannine Colette <— ONE FROM THE “WHAT TO READ AFTER ARSEN” LIST ALERT! This one was recently released, comes recommended and is on super-bargain sale right now!! Cheryl says: “Just finished Pure Abandon. LOVED it!!! Well-written, angsty, love-triangle.” (Thanks to Nancy for finding it at a bargain price for us!!) 😀
- One Kick: A Novel (Kick Lannigan Book 1) by Chelsea Cain <— OHHHHH LOOK what Tasha found for us!! “I just finished One Kick by Chelsea Cain. It’s a mystery/thriller/suspense. I really loved it and I think if you like that genre you should give this one a shot. So much more than what I had thought and expected from the blurb! This is the first book I’ve read from Chelsea…”
Heartsick (Archie Sheridan & Gretchen Lowell Book 1) by Chelsea Cain <— Thriller with a female serial killer and the detective she had captured and tortured ALERT!!! And Tasha is reading this one as we speak! “I’ve had the first book, Heartsick, in her Archie Sheridan and Gretchen Lowell series for a couple years sitting on my shelf that a few of my family members have been begging me to read, but I just hadn’t gotten to it. Paperbacks are a pain for me, lol. But I squirreled from my current read and am about 30 pages in and am really liking this one too! Thriller with a female serial killer and the detective she had captured and tortured.
” <— Tee hee! I love Tasha’s devious grin. Oh her smiley looks cute, but we know it’s bein’ bad ’cause it’s reading a psych-thriller!
- Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard <— Tessa loved this one! “I read The Selection, and this was way better. That’s an odd comparison, actually. The only similarities is they are dystopian, and marriage is mentioned, though, not even in the same way. The book had magic, segregation issues, awesome character, betrayals, rebellion, just all sorts of gut punching goodies.“
- Queen Song (Red Queen Novella) by Victoria Aveyard <— JUST RELEASED!! And here’s the prequel… and Tessa is worried! ” I’m a little nervous about reading it. It’ll probably be extremely sad.”
- Neanderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City Book 1) by Penny Reid <— PLUS A TRIED-AND-TRUE FREEBIE OF THE WEEK ALERT!! Kirsty found us this freebie, and I loved this one (so many of us did, in fact). YAY YOU GUYS!! (my review) (P.S. Look Fabi!!! 😛 You know… 😉 )
- Monster in His Eyes by J.M. Darhower <— DARK READ (oldie-but-goodie) ALERT! Allison loved both of these! “I do sometimes enjoy a male point of view. When I read Monster in his Eyes, and then found out Torture to her Soul was from Naz’s POV, I was nervous. I loved Karissa so much and I thought reading his POV would ruin his mystique for me. I was so wrong. SO wrong.“
- Torture to Her Soul (Monster in His Eyes Book 2) by J.M. Darhower <— and here’s book #2 that she’s talking about…
- Hard to Fight by Bella Jewel <— Anna recommends this one! “Just read (and loved) Hard to Fight by Bella Jewel. The main character is a female bounty hunter who is trying to be taken seriously at her agency. She is finally given a big assignment, but the fugitive she is after ends up being super complex and sexy. Good stuff! I’ve also enjoyed some her Joker’s Wrath MC series, but this one had some really interesting components and a bad-ass female lead.”
The Sordid Promise (A Breaking Insanity Novel Book 1) by Courtney Lane <— TABOO ALERT!!! Elissa recommends this for our TABOO list, but I thought I’d highlight it here too. She seems VERY enthusiastic! “Oh Maryse there cannot be a list like this without mentioning a new arrival to dark, erotica Courtney Lane! The Sordid Promise is a crazy, dark, did I say dark? Erotic romance. You will be blown away!!”
OH NOOOOO and it says PSYCH-THRILLER and you know meeeeeee…. GAH!! DO I read it now? DO I? What do I do? Oh I wanna!!! 😀 Just look at this blurb! So, she has very specific “self-destructive needs” and… “Eric Brenton, Nikki’s new neighbor, lives in a dark, chaotic world that is easily hidden behind his model good looks and cocky demeanor. Unapologetic about his dirtier intentions, he sets his sights on Nikki with an offer to help her. But his help comes with very unorthodox conditions and a huge price. And Eric…comes with an extensive black box warning label.” <— YIKES!!!!!
- Reveal by Elle Brooks <— Grey is enjoying this recent release! “I’m getting to the *OMG my stomach hurts because of the angst* part…” Oh right I remember this blurb! The pro-dancer that was crushed under her ex’s debts and “When one door closes, another one opens. But I wasn’t prepared for it to belong to Reveal, one of New York City’s most exclusive Burlesque Clubs.“
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas <— WOW THIS AUTHOR IS THE BIGGEST THING GOING RIGHT NOW ALERT!! I need to marathon read her books… Ash says: “Did you read Maas other book- a court of thorns and roses? AMAZING!” and Tessa agrees! “I read Court of Thorn and Roses. That’s what got me into reading these in the first place. Someone read it and recommended it, and I went back to Throne of Glass, then read everything by her.”
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass series Book 1) by <— SUPER-BARGAIN SALE ALERT & SOOOOOO LOVED!!! Since the latest book in this series was just released (and highly anticipated) they’ve put book #1 on sale at a rock bottom price. SO MANY recommend this series with HUGE enthusiasm! (P.S. Here’s the entire series reading order and book #2: Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass series Book 2) is on sale too!)
Tessa: Rofl I was just in the middle of trying to convince my niece that she has to read this!
Maryse: I’m thinking I need to indulge in a fantasy read and this one is making too many people ecstatic. LOL!
Tessa: It’s that good. Aww, screw it. I’m buying number four. grin emoticon
Becky: sounds interesting and there are a LOT of good reviews. just one-clicked book 1.
Maryse: Becky, both this book and the latest release are HIGH up on the Amazon charts right now. It’s like a frenzy!
Jennifer: My 13 year old read it and would not give up nagging me till I started it. We are on book 2 now.
Maryse: How are you liking it so far, Jennifer?
Jennifer: I really liked it. My daughter and I have differing opinions on which guy we want her to end up with!
Melanie: I’m in the middle of the latest book and it ROCKS
Amanda: I just finished this book last night and I am in love! Can’t wait to start book two. It’s written so beautifully and the characters are amazing. # bombdotcom
Jeannie: I loved the first two books, but the third book – so amazing!!! I read it again so I am ready to ready for the 4th book and it was just as good if not better reading again. It was a very emotional book, and I found myself crying in so many scenes. If you haven’t read this series yet, definitely give it a try… I can’t wait for book 4 – Heir of Fire (book 3) left with a major cliffhanger!
Melanie: I just finished book 4 and am jumping up and down at how good it was. Now I have to wait a year for book 5 ARGHHHH! To whomever recommended this in previous posts, THANK YOU!
Jeannie: This is fast becoming one of my favorite series, I’m not sure whether to jump in and read book 5 or wait a bit. They are usually about a year apart.
Tessa: 71% into Queen of Shadows and OMG, good. So much tension I’m constantly walking away to breathe. I can kind of see where it’s going, but 71% isn’t almost done. The book has over 12000 location (whatever that means) so there’s still a lot of story left. *grins* … Sure, it’s a 10 dollar book, but it’s the size of three books! Seriously, 12072 locations, whatever that means in Kindle Speak. Also, it’s good.
Ash: Yay Tessa!! So far Queen of Shadows is worth every penny. I’m with you, it’s so hard to find good fantasy.
And for AUDIOBOOK LOVERS

And since this one is bargain priced in ebook, OMG what a DEAL to get the audiobook too!!!

I have A 5am job, that allows for a few hours of audio each time I work that shift. 🙂” and Rebecca agrees: ” Someone just mentioned In The a Company Of Killers, which are cheap on WhisperSync if you own the ebook, and fantastic narration… The narrator can make or break the audio, always listen to samples, and check out what audio add ons you can get from your purchased ebooks“
Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre <— I LOVE THIS AUTHOR + FAMOUS ACTOR/SMALL-TOWN GIRL ALERT!! This is coming out in just a few days (on Sept. 7th!!) Oh it sounds GOOD! He’s a sexy Hollywood star and she’s just a small-town girl doin’ her thing… and then: “Our lives shouldn’t have collided. But then Cole Masten read a book about my small town. And six months later, his jet landed on our dusty airstrip, and he brought Hollywood with him. From the start, I knew he was trouble. For our town. And for me.“

First, Best Laid Plans by Stylo Fantome is releasing on 9/7. Second, 71% into Queen of Shadows and OMG, good. So much tension I’m constantly walking away to breathe. I can kind of see where it’s going, but 71% isn’t almost done. The book has over 12000 location (whatever that means) so there’s still a lot of story left. *grins*
YAY!!! I just added both your recommendations. Tee hee!! I love the sound of that fantasy series, Tessa. Maybe I need a genre change for a week or two?
I’m reading The Lost. I also picked up Revue because…male strippers…duh. AND Throne of Glass on sale?! Oh, heck yeah, I’ve been waaaiiiting for this sale. Thanks Maryse!
😀 Either that or Written in Red. Oh! Number two of the Throne of Glass series, Crown of Midnight, is only $2.99. Not as cheap, but the original price is $7.99. *grins*
Great list! Thank you Maryse!
I finished Sustained and loved it! Jake and Chelsea are perfect for each other and the kids were amazing! I liked this one better than Overruled 🙂 Can’t wait for Brent’s story!
Having a yard sale, WTF was I thinking…there is so much book goodness waiting for me!!!
Happy birthday Jean! Hope its an awesome day for guy you!
Thank you Maryse, so many from this list are giving me the finger. You know… The clicky twitchy one click finger…not that finger that I flip at the person who cuts me off…
LOL Grey!!! That just cracked me up.
Oh is the yard-sale fun???
My pleasure Fabi, and Grey and Anne!
This list is exceptionally promising. I feel like the recommendations on it are extra-adamant, you know? And so many genre choices, too…
Taboo, funny, psych-thrillers, fantasy, yep… I’m happy with this one!
Nice list, Maryse 😉 Thank you! I have read The Sordid Promise 😉 It’s dark! The heroine have some issues. And her neighbour is hot 🙂
Happy birthday Jean. Eat as much cake as you like today 😉
Yay!! Thank you for that, Marit!!!
This one will keep you on your toes!! Ugly cry alert!

Please don’t forget Rhys Ford new book Sloe Ride , Sinners Book 4. Great
M/M series. Just released today!
Okay this is a cute post for our “crew” and I’ll tell you why in a sec…
So it’s a buzzed post about Tom Hardy and his dog. I crush on Tom Hardy BAD so I like this. And there’s a cute dog, so hello!! YES PLEASE.
But then… it’s the very first comments after the post that I want you to pay attention to. They sound JUST LIKE US!!! LOL!!!
but the best part of it all? THEY ARE GUYS.
GAH!!!! It’s like our “crew” in guy form on the Tom Hardy post. LOL!
Go look guys!!!
lol Brovulate. That needs to become a thing.
*snort*
I like the guy that passed him the half eaten box of chocolates… apparently they were all brovulating….
😛
I always feel famous when I see my comments there!! lol Seriously though, anyone who loves fantasy and/or YA – you must read the Throne of Glass series..
Happy Friday indeed! I just one-clicked Throne of Glass. Yipee.
Yeah, you’ll ike it MichelleS. See! Jeannie said it perfectly. You’ll love it if you love fantasy. Did I mention there are Fae?
So, someone is in the mood for more of a fantasy type read? Hmmm.
*clears throat*
who are we clearing our throat at? *snort* 😛
OMG, the pigeon picture!!! LOL!!!! And Tom Hardy was lookin’ pretty good, too. 😉
I kept snorting over the comments below the post and ended up choking on my own spit. Now THAT is a sign that you’ve read something good. Holy moly, those guys were hilarious!! And good lord, did they sound like us. *snort*
I was going to start Screaming in the Silence, but then I saw the magic words in Pat’s rec for Discovering Stella…”twist”, “BOOM” and “don’t see it coming” YEP!! Magic words for sure!
…or rather, who are we clearing FROM our throat? Hmmmm? 😛
Probably crows. Or wolves. Or horses. 🙂 WiR is a extremely good series, Maryse. Just saying.
Finished Queen of Shadows. So much action and wow-ness. I don’t think the series is done. I know it isn’t, but it was definitely the end of a big arc. Super good. 😀
Omg Amy, did you really just go there? bahahaha hahaha *snort* *choke* *clears throat* *snicker*
Yeah, all that. You are one crazy funny girl.
Whew I’m done with crazy work and have the next 4 days off, binge reading here I come! I’m soooo far behind on comments…Happy Birthday Jean! Started The Drafter by Kim Harrison last night and I really like it. Definitely different for her, has more of a scifi/fantasy feel wrapped up with the paranormal. Then who knows…I have to go back and see if I missed any must reads!
I just realized what Amy meant. *begins blushing* Hrm, book. Next I’m going to read about Murder and Mayhem in a future NYC. I love Eve Dallas books. 😀
Yeeeaaa Maryse, I just saw #19. That’s awesome. Now let’s all blab about it on Facebook and Twitter. For those budget conscious weekends – there is a favorite freebie on Maryse’s Friday list. Woohoo! No more sad Monday paydays for me.
*snicker*
Oh! And the Rook and Ronin bundle is still on Amazon for 4.99!! 😀
I just saw a commercial for Bumbershoot…now I wish I could read Thoughtless again for the first time. *sigh*
I believe there are going to be 6 books in the Throne of Glass series. And book 3 has a really hot fae, who is not really likeable. At all.
Sustained by Emma chase, super funny! I highly recommend it. You will love it!
So…..I’m totally wearing my gross out face now.
OMG….Monster in His Eyes is INCREDIBLE!!!! Both books, both POV’s.
Going to try and read today, lol. That’s so sad. I’m to lazy to scroll, what are you all reading?
Innocent in Death by JD Robb. I got it from the library, and it seemed the perfect opposite of Queen of Shadows that I can read it without book fog issues.
Clicked R&R bundle in a nervous frenzy…..not even sure what its about so totally going on all your recs. Also grabbing Throne of Glass and Court of Thorn and Roses. Need a genre swap and looking forward to these.
Bev currently reading Cold Fury…Alex and enjoying it. Not too angsty so far…like her characters.
Maryse, yes you should definitely give a Fantasy a go! I’ve always been a contemp romance girl with PNR on the side, but my New Years resolution for this year was to read more diverse books, and Fantasy romance has been rocking my world!! My faves so far: A Court Of Thorns And Roses, which is an adult retelling of Beauty And The Beast, badass fairies. Amazing imagery, characterisation, emotional feels. Violence. I’m yet to read TOG, which is a YA series, but high on my list. Heather Lyons The Collectors Society, an adult retelling of Alice In Wonderland. Simply amazing, and check out the gorgeous book covers!. Red Queen (from your list), was simply epic. Hunger Games feel, and this is a great one for fantasy virgins, as you’re thrown straight into the story, instead of world building. Optioned for a movie deal!!
I really hope you take the plunge, and of course, I would adore a List of other people’s recommendations!!
And now because of this… I’m singing along with DJ Kool in my head… Let me clear my throat…
Just picked up Jezebel and Revue. The author of Revue will be at a signing event I’m attending next month in Melbourne. Trying to read as many books as possible of the attending authors – 20 more books to go in 6 weeks.
There’s another bargain I just finished reading ‘the same deep water’ by Lisa Swallows for 99 cents. Beautifully written heartfelt romance even though tackling serious issue of mental illness.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes guys!
Reading ‘Revue’ right now.
Read ‘Buy me’ by Alexa Riley, it was poorly written smut.
Can’t wait to read ‘Hollywood Dirt’
Revue looks good (especially the cover) and I’m looking forward to Hollywood Dirt too!
So excited about a new series by Jay Crownover coming out in January….a spinoff from the Marked Men series…..first book is Built: Saints of Denver.
Jean…I gave you an early birthday hug so now I’m giving you a post-birthday hug! Why? Because you’re sweet and because I can!! *grabs and squeezes Jean*
You’re bluntness is making me snicker, Mica. 😉
Antonella…avoid Jezebel spoilers at all costs! That is one book that you do NOT want to be spoiled. 😀
Rebecca, Fantasy recommendations? A big favorite here is Written in Red by Anne Bishop. I’d say look also at MichelleS’s favoite, Tairen Soul series by CL Wilson. Also, Iron Fay series by Julie Kagawa. Jim Butcher’s Codex series. Peter V Brett’s Warded Man series is good so far. I’m on the third one, which I still need to read. My mind is drawing a blank now. lol
Bev, I started Screaming in the Silence but it’s not working for me. 😕 Now I have no idea what to start, and I am torn between reading something PNR/fantasy or NA. Then again, something YA and drama-filled sounds good too. *sigh* Whatcha reading?
Lisa, I haven’t read the R&R series either but I couldn’t resist getting the whole collection like that! Can anyone chime in about it?
Rebecca…I second Tessa’s recs, and you should check out the readers’ favorites posts that Maryse puts up every Saturday. They are so fun! Also…
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-recommendations/the-book-lists.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Maryse+%28Maryse%27s+Book+Blog+-+Paranormal+Romance+Book+Reviews%29
Gah! I love that Maryse loves lists. 😉
Gah, Golden Dynasty. I knew there was a fantasy I forgot. Thank you Amy for showing her that list. I was going kind of nuts. All I could think of was the Xanth books by Piers Anthony and Myth books by Robert Asprin. Definitely not the same type, nor much in the way of romance.
Thanks Amy! I’ll take all the hugs I can get!
Everything and nothing. I’m not getting past a couple pages in any book. Not the books just me. *sigh*
May try Vengeance Road. Something completely different.
Its YA. But a bit $$. Total impulse buy.
Golden Dynasty!! One of my fave fantasy books of all time.
I am starting a series by Florencia Bonelli called Year of Fire. The first book is Obssesion. Sounds good!
Bev can’t wait to know what you think of VR. Its pricey so don’t want to get it before I know if its good or not 🙂
Fantasy.
George R.R. Martin
Robin Hobb
Guy Gaveriel Kay
Jim Butcher
Lynn Flewelling
With the way I’m reading it may be a wait.
Amy jump in and read it. Maybe you’ll motivate me to read and/or guinea pig it.
Look Amy, doesn’t it sound fun.
https://www.amazon.com/Vengeance-Road-Erin-Bowman/dp/0544466381#mediaMatrix_secondary_view_div_1441485606554
But…then what if it sucks. :-/
Bev, that does sound good. You be the guinea pig please….keep me updated!
Curious as to what Maryse chose. Maybe she went full fantasy and is reading Lord of the Rings.
Oh no… that’s too much fantasy for me, bev. Tee hee!!!
Actually I’m reading Fallen Crest High.
*waits for it….*
Gah, not Lord of the Rings! I read it and enjoyed it, but it really has a LOT of faults. Most of which involved it following the character, it finally getting good, and then… back to the next character. *grrr* Also, the Shire. Leaving the Shire was PAINFUL!
I’ve only read that first book, because of the movie, lol.
I’m 8% into a book. I’m just going to bask in that for a moment.
New favorites up! *grins*
Well, once you are out of the shire, it does get better at least. It’s rare for me to say this, but in this case, the movies were better.
Maryse!!!! FCH. What ya thinking?? I read the first 3 then really had to take a break. I did find it difficult to get the M pov and understand where they were coming from. They didn’t make me feel ‘safe’ that’s for sure!..But the fanatical obsession all the other characters had for these two was a teeny bit lost on me.
Well I just started it so we’ll see… 😉 But I like the flow of it and the writing so far.
Ive had a weekend without husband so have been reading non stop. Just had to re-visit and share the heart wrenching beauty of If I Stay and Where She Went by Gayle Foreman. I ugly ugly cry over this story particularly book two. If you haven’t read them I highly highly recommend them. (They should have been in my top ten!!) *BIG shuddery sigh*
I need recs for good m/m stories. I’ve read the Try series which I loved! Any suggestions? I don’t mind if its NA, CR, PNR, HR etc. Thanks guys!
Bev I read revue and really enjoyed it. Got a few Magic Mike giggles….’His aftershave wafted up my nose, musk mixed with fake tan’….baahahaha.
I’ve never read LoTR but I love the movies! Seriously love! Just one word: Aragorn 😉
Lisa lol! I have Revue on my TBR pile. Oh Magic Mike! Yes please lol
*GASP*
Where is everyone??!!
You HAVE to hold them to the Sweet Dream deal!!
*happy claps*
I can mention Written in Red to you again.
*cackles*
EVERYONE THAT HASN’T READ SWEET DREAMS… get crackin’!!!!! 😛
*throws peanuts in the air and watches ’em bonk everyone in the head that hasn’t read Sweet Dreams yet*
Tee hee!!!
TESSA!!!!! *grabs Tessa and points at Maryse* Look! She’s reading it!!
*jumps up and down while squealing*
Bev, it DOES look good but this part of the description makes me pause…
“Children are burned alive in coaches”
The hell?!?
Wait. What??? I never saw that. Going back to look.
okay wait…
i dont understand what happened to her fingernails? They just bled and… popped off? While she was talking to her dad and getting that news? Why? EW!!!!!
Lol. Waaaaay more in depth than blurb on kindle book. Huh. Should be interesting..?
So, do we think Maryse will fall for Logan or find him disturbing?
Oh, and Anne, that is definitely the word.:-)
I’m gonna be all over Hollywood Dirt after reading Black Lies… Such great writing! Can’t wait for this one!
Owww Maryse!!! *rubs head* Alright, alright…I’m pulling up Sweet Dreams right now. Sheesh. 😛
Actually, it’s a relief to have a book “chosen” for me right now as my current read is a flop, and I didn’t know what I felt like reading. I LOVE how we do that for each other around here! 😀
Ooooh Cindy, Black Lies was SO good. Lucky you reading it for the first time!
Amy great book to read if you need a tried and true HEA with a bit of angst thrown in for good measure….certainly the best KA I’ve ever read with The Will a close second. Enjoy!!
Anne, M/M…… did you read Him?
Also PNR M/M – If you’re into the Black Dagger Brotherhood books you need to read Quinn and Blays story….Think it was Lovers at Last? All the titles kind of blend together with that series…..Maryse may be able to clarify.
Anne….Elle Kennedy’s Out of Uniform series – Hotter Than Ever M/F/M…but only if you REALLY want to fog your reading glasses up!! LOL!
*blinks*
*blinks again*
She’s actually reading it? For reals reading it?
Okay, over the shock. I put Sweet Dreams on order at the library.
Ewwww.
I don’t remember. But I do remember that I always thought it was on the dark side. As in feel of it. A slightly disturbed air about it, lol.
LOL!!!
Well… Maybe Tijan was gonna make her a vampire, and then just left it to human but forgot to change the creepy bleeding fingernails part?
What? Huh? Sure it’s not digging into her skin, the palm?
Nope. Her dad was telling her his “secret” she flipped out… kind of like feeling faint, saw her nails were bleeding and like… 3 of ’em just popped off!
lol now you are making me turn my tablet on. *grins* I gotta read that part.
It’s in the first 15% (probably around 12%?)
Don’t give away the vampire twist.
Yep, read that part. 🙂 forgot about it, honestly.
Lisa I haven’t read HIM but it sounds great! I love Elle Kennedy so checking out her book too. Thank you!
Maryse I remember reading that scene too and being like WTF?!? Lol!
Amy you are going to love Sweet Dreams! Its my second fave of hers after GD of course 🙂
I agree Bev FCH had a dark undertone thru it….I had a slightly uncomfortable feeling of trepidation the whole time. No safe warm and fuzzy feels for me.
I remember the fingernails too….weird. I thought that was going somewhere but it was just a bit random.
Anne, I’m always looking for a good m/m book. Besides Him which is really good, and Lover at Last, these are some of the ones I’ve read:
Dangerously Happy
Bear, Otter and the Kid
Crossroads
Atom Heart John Beloved
Nathan’s Story
Hot Head
Beneath the Stain
Bad Things (dark)
Measure of Devotion (dark)
Most of these have been 4 and 5 star reads for me. Let me know if you have any questions about any of them.
Maryse is reading FCH?!?! I hope she is Team Logan!!!!!
Anne, Strawberries for Dessert. Read it this year and think it would go on my year favorites list.
Finished Innocent in Death. I swear, the thing I love most about those is Eve and Rourk together. *grins* Then all the secondary character’s lives. This one, though, I totally didn’t see who it was until about thirty pages before the big reveal. I love that.
I actually dreamed of this place last night. That Maryse read WiR and dnf’d it. She had a numbered list as to why. One being it was too simplistic. I was posting sad emoticons. Lol.
I need coffee and carbs now.
LOL bev!!!!! I highly doubt that book is too simplistic. 😉
But i’m all for coffee and carbs. ANY excuse. *snort*
Sounds like a nightmare bev! Lol!
Lol. Yes Jean terrifying.
Speaking of dreams & Sweet Dreams, walking along and Sweet Child O’Mine just came up in my shuffle. Great scene in that book. Then the next song was Laugh, I nearly Died. Another great scene/song combo from The Edge of Never.
Fabi thank you so much! What a great list! I’ll check them out and if I have any questions I’ll let you know *hugs*
Thank you bev! I’ll check it out 😀
I’m reading!!!!!!
Maybe should be concerned that is my highpoint this labor day, but don’t care.
I’m reading!!!!!
Also, another post of lit tattoos. Love Persuasion. Probably my favorite Austen book.

Concerned? Nah Bev, I would say any day that has reading as the high point is a GOOD day! 😀
Finally have a chance to catch up after being away this weekend and having spotty wifi connection.
I read Crosstown Crush. While the sexy times were really hot, and it had the potential for some major angst/conflict since the married couple invited another man to participate in their sex lives, it didn’t happen and I didn’t have that kick to the gut I was hoping for.
I’m reading Hollywood Dirt now and loving it. I just love the way this author writes!! 🙂
I’m going to have to put Hollywood Dirt high up on my tbr. Too many people raving about the writing. I have to see for myself. 🙂
Does anyone else find Labor Day a little bitter sweet? I love fall, but as a child nothing better than long endless summers, until Labor Day. Always liked the celebrations but it was the call back to school and summer’s end for another year.
I’m a summer girl Bev, Fall is pretty but it makes me sad. Everything is dying and winter is coming. Spring is my favorite season but long summer days and sultry nights are the most fun.
