HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!! :D!!!!!
<— SATURDAY BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!!!! *SQUEEEEE!!!* ONE of my 5-star FAVORITES from this year – and of all time (and a favorite for so MANY of us) is on super-sale today!!!!!!! An Exaltation of Larks is a MUST READ!!! And here’s my review. 😀 You’ll see!
In fact, it was one of the most-favoritest favorites added to the main READER FAVORITES BEST OF 2016 LIST (requested by so many of our fellow readers!!)
Kathy: An Exaltation of Larks by Luanne Laqueur is on sale… Going to use my Christmas Amazon gift card for this one!
This year is almost finished, and the New Year is kicking off BIG!!! And I know it’s going to be an awesome one. I just KNOW it. More reading, more squeeing, more falling in love, and more having my book-wits scared right out of me!
In fact, I just finished one creepy stalker one yesterday (and reviewed it ➔ Book Review – Bad Mommy by Tarryn Fisher) and I’m in the mood for another one just like that. Soooooooo I’m reading the sequel to “You: A Novel” (which I loved – creepy stalker that ends up being her BOYFRIEND!!!!! – here’s my review)
marina: Just finished You by Caroline Kepnes and LOVED IT!!! Wow, how did I just finally read this book?!?!?!?!? It has been on my TBR for AGES, since your review Maryse in 2014?
and this next one is Hidden Bodies: A Novel and from the reviews, I know I’m in for another creep-fest. I can’t wait!! YAY ME!!!
Maryse: Hidden Bodies is calling me HARD though. I love a scary thrill… you know me. Especially since… #1 did have a love story. Just sayin’
Tasha: I decided to jump right into Hidden Bodies bc I’m weird like that. Lol. I’m loving it too, even better than the first. Somehow though I still like Joe (I know it’s soo bad)!
Rebecca: …it is awesome and page turning good! And, yes, I am scared to hype it too much because I don’t want it to be a let down (I hate when that happens and I probably would have thought it was great if I wasn’t expecting fireworks)- but, I seriously cannot recommend it enough. I was kicking myself for not starting it sooner. I would even re-read it (and I usually never do that!) to enjoy it again…
marina: I’m finishing up Hidden Bodies today. Very much the feel of You.
Now… take a look at what else we found! (NOTE: some are bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order. Sales listed are for Amazon U.S., however some of the Amazon UK links also reflect the sale!):
Franco (Bright Side Book 3) by Kim Holden <— LIVE!!! KIM HOLDEN’S LATEST BOOK ALERT!! The author says:
“Bright Side and Gus go together like PB&J. Franco is a different story, a new chapter in this series, so we wanted to to try something new to reflect it. And this photo truly is my Franco.”
and this:
“This is my funny book, I would say. Hopefully no tissues required.”
- Retreat (The Getaway Series Book 1) by Jay Crownover <— LATEST JAY CROWNOVER WENT LIVE ALERT!!!!!! She and her girlfriend were going on a retreat… “…Nowhere in the glossy brochure did it say anything about the fact I was going to have to battle the insufferable but deliciously rugged and sexy trail guide instead of the elements. The brochure also forgot to mention the part that warned when you left civilization behind, there was no place to pack your inhibitions and fears. I was told that I would be facing a week where the only thing I should expect was the unexpected. However, no one mentioned that I was going to have to fight for my life…and my heart as soon as I ventured into the unknown…“
Dark Matter: A Novel by Blake Crouch <— SUPER-EXCITING CRAZY THRILLER ALERT!! One of my latest favorites and back on the list, ’cause Fabi just read it and lost her mind over it!!
Fabi: Whoaaaaa – just finished Dark Matter. I can’t wait for the movie!!! So so so glad I finally made time for this one. If I’d read it before submitting my top ten of 2016, this one would have been high on my list of favorites for the year.
Maryse: I LOVED DARK MATTER!!!! Yessssss!!!
Fabi: OMG! Maryse, tell everyone to read it. Read it now. I finished it last night and I have very little hope I’m going to enjoy my next book. How in the world can anything follow Dark Matter? Oh, and btw, please beat me over he head with the book when I don’t immediately jump on your raving raving review. :-/
Maryse: Okay I’m posting it right now on today’s!!!! LOL!!! I KNOW RIGHT?? How CRAZY did that story get. So unique and clever! I need to make a “What to read after Dark Matter” list.
I have no clue, though. *snort*
Bad Mommy by Tarryn Fisher <— CRAZY STALKER LADY WANTS TO BE HER ALERT!!! Back on the list, ’cause I just read it and LOVED IT!!! Such an infuriating read… but so well written, and the ending was *gasp* SERIOUSLY??!! WHOA. LOVED IT!
Maryse: I finished Bad Mommy you guys!!! It was VERY good. Not as… crazy and dark as her usuals, but definitely up that creepy-weirdo alley… and I LOVED how she told the story. It was fun and a bit exciting.
Cheryl: …you should read Bad Mommy- it’s not angsty, dark like her other books. Kinda weird, has three different POV’s that contribute to the twisty-turny sh!t changing and piling up. Thought the ending was kinda rushed and left some unanswered questions but you won’t hate the ending.
Linda: This book kept me completely captivated!!! … I’m trying really hard not to spoil anything!!! Lol. That ending??!! Well shut my mouth!!!!
Kaycee: YES!! YES!! Totally agree with your review. I loved this book from beginning to end. The three parts were told exactly how they should have been … that ending. Those last few words! I read them twice, three times, and then put my kindle down and said out loud, “Ohhhhh, now that’s clever!”
Jen C: Can we gush about Bad Mommy? I don’t usually write reviews on Amazon/Goodreads (there’s a reason I read books and not write them!) but I had to for this one. I won’t repeat it here lol but I will say this… A fascinating, intoxicating read. Brave and honest. And I loved playing detective – little comments from the book I remember from Facebook/Instagram etc. WOWZERS.
- Scarlet Stone by Jewel E Ann <— JAWDROPPING ALERT!!! Robyn says THIS ONE NOW!!!!
“Maryse, have you read Scarlett Stone by Jewel E. Ann yet? That book! I can’t stop thinking about it. It was a jaw dropping, angsty tear jerky book. Everything we love!! You gotta read it, it had major feels.”
- Shuttergirl: (A Standalone Second Chance Romance) by C.D. Weiss <— PAPARAZZI ALERT!!! Janet recommends it!!
Janet: Just finished CD Reiss’s Shuttergirl and it was a page-turner. Really smart writing, good storyline, and satisfying characters. A Paparazzi Photographer/Movie Star, second-time romance, set in LA. Lots of Hollywood twists and turns through both the superficial and gritty sides of the city, that take it back and forth from passionate reconnection to the sadness of impossible circumstances. Definitely recommend it!
Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas <— JERK-FACE BULLY HERO ALERT!!! Amy (and crew) recommends this one!!
Amy: Maryse…you gotta add Punk 57 to your TBR for next year. He is such a jerk-face and you would love it. YA with an NA feel. 😉 … he is so freaking angry for his own reasons and ends up being MEAN to her, and his POV doesn’t really lessen things all that much. And they totally have this attraction-hate thing going on and MAN does it get explosive passion wise. You would love it!
Fabi: I got totally sucked in to Punk 57 and can’t seem to unglue myself from this book. I think I know what Punk is now but I’m still clueless on the 57. I saw some lyrics but they didn’t make any sense to me. When she (and I) figured out Rocks, omg, I was dying laughing.
Tessa: I’m reading Punk 57. Angsty as all out.
Grey: I *felt* this book. It hurt in places. I had to get a cold glass of water in other sections. In yet different parts, I read with my eyes kind of squinted a little, because I knew the inevitable crash was coming… “Close your eyes, there’s nothing to see out here.” Gah! That made me tear up!
- Charged: A Saints of Denver Novel by Jay Crownover <— HE’S A LAWYER & SHE’S A REBEL ALERT!! “When Avett lands in a sea of hot water because of one terrible mistake, the only person who can get her out of it is the insanely sexy lawyer. The last thing on earth she wants to do is rely on the no-nonsense attorney who thinks of her as nothing more than a nuisance…” AND!!! It’s super-bargain priced today! (P.S. Here’s my review in case you missed it).
- The Liar Series (Duet Boxed Set) by Lia Fairchild <— SUPER-BARGAIN BUNDLE TODAY!!! I read the first book in this duet!! (my review)
- Slave to the Rhythm (The Rhythm Series Book 1) by Jane Harvey-Berrick <— DARK READ ALERT!! Nancy found us this one saying: “SLAVE TO THE RHYTHM by Jane Harvey-Berrick is a dark standalone on sale…” (super-bargain priced!!) “…Every choice has a consequence. And when you meet the wrong person, all bets are off. Laney tolerates her limitations, pushing quietly at boundaries. But when Ash crashes into her world through rage and violence, it sets off a chain reaction that neither of them expected…“
- A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner <— ANGSTY ROMANCE ALERT!!! Nancy found us THIS one on super-bargain sale, too!! (here’s my review)
Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum <— SHE’S AT A NEW HIGH SCHOOL, and someone anonymous is offering to help her… Lisa C enjoyed this one and it’s super-bargain priced right now!
bev: Tell Me Three Things is on sale. Cute read.
Maryse: I just read the blurb of Tell Me Three Things and it sounds awesome. I hadn’t even heard of it before. Thank you bev!!!!!
Lisa C: Just read Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum. It was NA I guess. MC is 16. It was really good. Didn’t really feel like high school.
The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks <— NICHOLAS SPARKS SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!!!!
Erika: I think The Longest Ride is my favorite book!
Kristina: I loved the Longest Ride book. So many beautiful lines I highlighted on my Kindle.
Leslie: The longest ride. The two love stories were beautiful.
- The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks <— NICHOLAS SPARKS SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! What an AMAZING EPIC love story with a twist. Gasp!! MY HEART!!!
Connie: I have read all of Nicholas Sparks books… my favorite The Notebook…until I read The Best of Me 🙂
Donna: The notebook and the best of me were my favorites!
Margot: Oh I loved ‘the Notebook’ – book and film!
Jojo: At the time that I was reading The Notebook my grandmother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and my grandfather sat with her all day, everyday at the nursing home until she was put to bed at night. It was a hard one for me to get through with my eyes so swollen from crying. I will never forget staying up all night crying, reading, and loving The Notebook!
The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks <— NICHOLAS SPARKS SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! ANOTHER TEARJERKER and OMG have I not watched this yet? I could swear I was planning on it… and yet the blurb tells me nothing.
Anne: Maryse The Best of Me is so sad!! I cried so much.
boa: The Best Of Me. Such a phenomenally heartwrenching movie.
Michelle: went to see The Best of Me and oh god I cried so hard – even more than I did with The Notebook! I must read that book now though, seriously it was completely unexpected how it turned out.
Belen: My all time favorite book The Best Of Me by Nicholas Sparks
- Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks <— NICHOLAS SPARKS SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! Abused wife escapes her husband and starts off new in a small, remote town. I only watched the movie, but I loved it, and I was so nervous for her…
- The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks <— NICHOLAS SPARKS SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! Also a tearjerker…
Lyndsey: My favourite book is the last song because I feel like it’s the least depressing and its the only Nicolas sparks book I’ve read.
Rose: The book that left an imprint is “The Last Song.”

Grumble grumble.. was hoping to beat you the punch again!
What’s with the girl sitting all ladylike swaying? Ha!
Hi guys!!!
I’m reading a PAPER BOOK!!! ALL OLD-SCHOOL LIKE!!!!
I loved that song bev!! Thank you!!!!!
See, Maryse.
MichelleS and i are here. You should totally read Simon, we’d sit here and watch you.
Went to the library for one book and came out with 4. *sigh*
Is it Hidden Bodies?
It was playing in this little boutique while I did some last minute Christmas shopping. Walking around smelling very expensive candles. Lol. It has been playing in my head ever since.
Library haul:
The Martian
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Throne of Glass
The Little Paris Book shop.
You guys, I have bought so many, too many, books in the past two weeks.
Once Upon a Rose by Laura Florand is 99. Very sweet and whimsical CR. Not a Marmy at all.
Collecting the Pieces by L.A. Fiore is on sale for $.99. Was $3.99.
Yes!!! Hidden Bodies. I’m having so much fun!
OMG READ THE MARTIAN!!!!! YAY!!!!
Yes bev! I love Laura Florand. All those hot French guys. So saucie. So sexcie. Very sweet, hot and romantic books, but no, not marmy. I think you rec’d these books to me originally. Big thankyou 😀
MichelleS, your list is up! Off to read it. 🙂
Lick by Kylie Scott is 99cents. It’s been out for a while but I just read it now. I couldn’t put it down. Loved the dialogue between the two.
Just one clicked Punk 57, lets see if I can finish before the end of the year. Given it’s midday probably not.
Antonella I LOVED “Lick”. AWESOME deal!! Thank you!
I’m drinking Jager straight tonight. I had to put the final nail in someone’s coffin today and they ended up losing their job. What a hideous feeling this is. 🙁
Hoping to finish Bad Mommy by tomorrow (seriously loving it) so I can start my New Year’s reading resolution on Sunday. And of course bev’ awesome 2017 reading challenge.
Wait until you get to the end of the book Amy!!
*rubs hands together with glee*
Ouch, Amy.
That cannot be fun.
Poor Amy. That would be the part of the job that I would hate the most. Yikes.
An Exaltation of Larks by Luanne Laqueur is on sale at $2.99 from $5.99. Going to use my Christmas Amazon gift card for this one!
WHOA!!! Thank you SO much Kathy P!!!! I’m added it to the list as a breaking news update!! This is awesome! 😀
Books 2 and 3 of the Lick series are even better Antonella. Not sure whether they’re on sale as well, tho :/
Bev, that is just quirky and hilarious. Thanks for putting it in my head!!
Amy, horrible feeling even when justified.
Traveling to inlaws for new years *swipes Amy’s Jager* HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!
Your welcome Cheryl.
And Happy New Years Eve.
Do I need to read Gus before reading Franco?
Holy moly, this book. THIS BOOK.
GAH…I love TF’s writing!!
Cheryl…read Gus. It hurt at the beginning (OMG did it hurt) but the healing was beautiful. You really shouldn’t miss out. 😉
Hey guys! I just spent the last hour reading all your comments from Tuesday’s and Friday’s posts. I felt like I was missing a part of my family not knowing what you all were up to.
It’s been a tough week. I’m reading Bad Mommy now and hoping to finish today to reach my goal of 150 books this year. I’m excited by Maryse and Amy’s reaction!
And looking forward to starting Remember When tomorrow, my challenge read, which I’ve had for a long, long time.
Rebecca and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn are both on sale. But are super good. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn made me cry. And Rebecca is one I’m determined to do another re-read of this new year.
Amy I do have Gus on my tbr, but what I liked about Franco was author said this is her funny book. I’m in mood for funny, not sad. Just started it and thinking don’t have to have read Gus.
Cheryl, I’ll make Franco my next read, but I wouldn’t think do if you read Bright Side. However, when you are not in the mood for funny, read Gus. It really does heal like Amy said. I can think of Bright Side now without sobbing hysterically because I read it.
Cheryl…then I would definitely go with Franco. 😉
Jean…I feel the same way! Even when I’m not here I’m still thinking of everyone SO often. I’m finishing up Bad Mommy (and loving every mind-screwing second of it) then I have to catch up on the last two weeks of Maryse’s posts and everyone’s comments. Then I have to catch up on GR and update my TBR list there, and THEN I need to put my 2017 favorites together and shoot it off to Maryse. But you know what? I love that to-do list. 😀
By the way Jean, how are your friends and their son doing? They’ve been on my mind lately.
*fist bumps Tessa*
So I started this Bully book yesterday. It is one I’m not rooting for the romance. The writing and story telling are good, really good, but I’m rooting for her to just escape. It’s not cruel words, but actually beating her up. Or she can snap and just beat him up instead. That’d work.
Oh and last, she has a crush on him and knows it’s wrong so she avoids him. He has started being nice after almost Killing her, so every adult keeps saying, you know. You have a crush, so you should go for it! *face palm*
Tessa I’d have to burn that book.
Amy, my friend’s son passed away on Thursday in the loving arms of his Mom. We are all struggling to come to grips with it. The family has an amazing support team and his friends have been incredible. So damn sad…..thanks for thinking of me.
No words, Jean.
I know bev. The worst part is it could have been prevented. He was driving home from Vermont, a 7 hour ride, and he just wanted to get home. His blood sugar spiked so high causing cardiac arrest. There was just too much damage and they had to make some very tough decisions. If he just would have gone right to a hospital, he would still be here. Tragic.
Oh, my friend…lots of love and prayers for you and the family. I wish I had words. *huge hug*
Thanks Amy…appreciate that so much!
Jean I’m so very very sorry. There really are no words.
My 24 y.o. nephew has diabetes and I know he doesn’t take care of himself like he should. It’s very difficult for young men to understand their limitations.
And there’s nothing more horrible than losing a young loved one who still had an entire life left to live.
You have my sincere regret and sadness.
*hugs*
Thanks Fabi and Tessa. And yes Fabi, you are exactly right. He didn’t take care of himself like he should have and thought he was invincible. He was a total adventurer though and did lots of crazy things….he was just snowboarding in Vermont last Tuesday!
Omg, Darius’ POV in Bad Mommy just threw me for a loop! Crazy!
Think I’m going with The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee. I love stories that take place in the real world but with bits of magic.
And I like the cover.
Definitely not meeting my GR goal for 2016. *shrug*
Fabi, have you read Broken by Nicola Haken or Bitter Legacy by Dal Maclean?
Bought th on a wh when saw th on year end lists.
Jean, right?!? Totally wasn’t expecting that from his POV. His tension when he came home at that one part in Fig’s POV makes sense now. Office drama. Ahem. 😉 I’m almost to the third POV (I’m *assuming* it’s Jolene’s but I haven’t peeked so not completely sure) but I am just DYING to see what kind of turn THAT one will take us on!!
I have no idea what my phone is doing. Grr.
Bought THEM on a WHIM when I saw THEM on year end lists.
bev…you set up a crazy-good reading challenge for us for next year. I think not meeting your GR goal can be excused. 😉
No.
I’m a loser.
What you gonna do? *shrug *
Every time I scroll by MichelleS’ favorites list and see the cover of Carry On I smile.
I’m assuming Jolene’s Pov is next too. I’m at 63%…..can’t imagine how it will end!
*gasp* BEV!! I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do…
It involves arms and a sneak attack.
Ya better run, hun. 😆
Bev, I’ve read Broken. It damn near made my top 10 for 2016.
*stands so Fabi is between Amy & I*
That makes me so happy.
Why do I love year end list so much?
Books, music, beauty, general things that someone loved this year. I just like them.
But books are going to bury me lol.
Jean I’m so sorry to hear about your friends son. Tragic.
So true about thinking they’re invincible or ultimately not thinking. My friends daughter within first week of starting college was in ER because drank too much and didn’t manage her diabetes. Luckily she was ok.
Thanks Cheryl
Jean! Are you at 70% yet?? WTF is going on????
Aw dangit, now I have to backtrack…
And now it’s my turn. You must all go and read my favorite books.
I will wait. 😉
Jean, so sorry about your friend. My heart breaks for them.
Thank you Leslie
Amy, I’m at 93%…and I’m kinda waiting for the ball to drop, ya know, that jaw dropping moment…….
Holy sh!t…
*laughs maniacally*
OMG. I just finished the last page and what a f&$king trip Bad Mommy was!!!!
Hurry up and finish Jean…we need to have drinks!! Off to read Maryse’s review finally…
*squeeeeee* Amy!!!!!!!!
I’ve been rocking back and forth biting my fist waiting for you to get back.
Now Jean…
*rubs hands together with more glee!!*
*scramble-crawls over to Maryse’s rocking corner*
Gimme that fist so I can bite it too…you KNOW I need to bite something after Bad Mommy!!!!
It’s either bite your fist or bite Manny. 😛
I’ve got a whole bunch of book energy and anxiety built up after all that so let me join you in saying…
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Come on Jean…hurry up!!!
Keep sending me your Best of 2016 lists!! I’ve just received more. YAY!!!
I’ll be going through the first weeks of January (daily!!) with ’em until I’ve run out. LOL!!
I have a bunch already prepared for the next few days (for those wondering when your list is posting)… a bunch for tomorrow!!!
😀
*takes Maryse ‘ s hand out of Amy’s mouth*
Um…
*gives Amy a licorice rope to chew on.*
Maryse, they are fun to read and look at, like a shelf of books. Though not good for my tbr.
*tries to rub teeth marks out of hand*
Ouch!!
*pouts*
*tears off a piece of licorice to make myself feel better*
Is it black licorice? That’s the only kind I like. 😀
I’m finished. I just posted on Maryse’s book review post. I’m feeling the same as you guys! What’s with that last line…..really makes you wonder right?
And I have to say, I just love anything by Tarryn Fisher at this point! Who was it that said this was their first TF book? We have to badger her to read The Opportunist series! (It might have been on your book review page).
Maryse, what’s the address to send it to? I seem to be having troubles finding it.
send it to [email protected] 😀
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!! :D!!!!!!
*snaps teeth at bev*
Ooooh, wait…licorice?!?
*gnaws on licorice*
And yes, it is black licorice for sure. Because it’s the bestest!! Black licorice and Jager have similar flavors…yummmmmmy!!!
It’s only 9:00 here, but still…
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE TOO!!!!!
Maryse, I just sent you my list. 😉
New Year’s Eve and I am sitting at home with a few bottles of champagne while chatting in my favorite place…and seeing that my friends are popping in and out of here as well on NYE. Any wonder why I love y’all and this place so much? 😉
AND!!! You love black licorice!!!
That’s why we’re awesome here. 😀
Also, yes I got your list!!! AND… you called it “My 2017 Top 10 List” 2017 <--- LOL!!!
Yep 9 something here too.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL YOU EAST COASTERS!!
Thank you for the email address. Eew on the black licorice. 😛
Yummmmmm Tessa. See? Yummmmmmm.
*pushes bite of black licorice in Tessa’s mouth*
😛
OMG…did I really??? *snort!!*
It was the champagne. I’m blaming it on that. Yep…Moet is some gooooooooood stuff!!!!!
Eeeew! Anise! Where are the yummy red one?
2017, huh? I am predicting my favorites of next year! Erm, that works, right?
ROFL what does that say? We both think we did it, yet she blames the alcohol and I blame something utterly farfetched.
“Yummmmmm Tessa. See? Yummmmmmm.” <——- *falls over and cackles like a looon*
*snort*!!!!
Okay and just for good measure, here’s me (in party animal mode) right now!!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BOtbUeNlIKI/?taken-by=itsmaryse
Happy New Year! I love black licorice! Great pic Maryse!
We blame those cause we can Tessa!!!!
Oh man let the hiccups cbegin…
It’s not quite midnight here yet, but Happy New Year, everyone!!
Jean–my heart is breaking for you and your friends. I’m so sorry you all had to experience such a tragic loss, especially around the holidays!
Cheryl–I agree with Amy and Tessa. You need to read Gus. It was awesome! I loved it even more than Bright Side. I didn’t realize Franco was live. SQUEE!!! Can’t wait to read it!
Your puppy is partying like a crazy dog. lol I ove it, I hate black licorice! We should totally use black licorice as an anti peanut. Don’t read this book! *throws black licorice* Like, the book I finished. I’d throw it at Fabi so she doesn’t ever try it.
Awwwwwwwww!!!!!!! I wanna snuggle with you and the pups and that blank i.e.!!!!!
Cause hubby passed out and now I’m all by my lonesome.
But I have you guys so YAY!!!
And Jean loves black licorice so YAY AGAIAN!!!!
What you read Tessa???
Awww Maryse you’re little precious is all curled up and comfy with mommy.
About ten till here and I doing my very favorite thing — reading a great book.
Happy New Year’s besties. !!!
Happy New Year everyone
I also hate black licorice.
Maryse–your pup is sooo cute!!
Amy, I read Bully by Ashley Love. He was just pure mean. It’s a series, so he may redeem himself, though to me he’s not. The guy literally beat the heroine. A lot. So… yeah. Now I must read the rest to see if he gets to be a better person, but he still is totally a nope. It’s like the Consequence series. I had to keep reading but he never redeemed himself in my eyes,
Happy New Year!
Happy (late/early) New Years!
I love black & red licorice, it’s all good.
Tessa–I just can never love books like that, and when I’m reading a book where I’m supposed to end up loving (or at least liking) the hero, if I’m turned off in the beginning by something really hateful, he can’t be redeemed in my mind.
I can’t remember what book it was, but there was another one where the hero, antihero, or whatever he’d be called, was just horrible to the heroine verbally. It had tons of good reviews, and from what I remember, people were loving his asshole alpha ways (which I usually love), but he was so incredibly mean to her that it just turned me off and I had to stop reading.
lol I won’t ever think this guy is awesome, but the story is definitely a study as far as people. Not the adults though. Those dummies were telling her to go for it, even if he did beat her up. No, not joking. They were, including her councilor!
I love “bully” books. I have no idea why, but they just are my favorites. That said, most of the time it depends on how far it goes before he’s redeemable. For instance, I loved Fear Me but that dude is SCARY! Good story, but Kellan is definitely no book boyfriend.
Happy 2017!
Hope we all have a year filled with health, wisdom, peace, good books and conversations, and lots of laughter.
Happy New Year!!! I’m FINALLY on my way home. OMFG, this vacation was way too long. I just want to be home already, in my bed…with my kindle, with my laptop and my books with all of you! I haven’t read ANYTHING in over a week! I did, however, send Maryse my list…so we will see when it gets posted LOL!
Please send safe travel vibes to me and my family as we begin our 21 hour trek home!
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson is on sale, 1.99. Super happy, been wanting this one. Yes it is YA, but YA is usually so much more $$ that any time they mark it down I one click. This got really good reviews and I read one of hers a few years ago I really enjoyed.
Happy New Year everyone!
I can’t believe it’s 2017!! Looking forward to our TBR challenge.
Going for a walk and so happy.
Okay ladies, I’m starting my first book for bev’s fun 2017 reading challenge!
Remember When is my book for the January theme of previous decades.
This is going to be so much fun!! 😀
I’m reading Wolfsong right now and it’s wonderful. I love when they meet as children.
Then, I think, on to my January read.
Yeah bev. I needed to hear happy news. I just finished an mm rec’d oldie, In the Absence of Light, and I’m emotionally wrung out. It took me to the edge of what I can handle. I just finished so I still feel like I need a bottle of antacids.
I have an ARC to read next, but right afterwards I’m jumping into my reading exchange with Tessa, Red Queen. After that one I’m planning on hitting my bev challenge for January, Leta Blake’s Pictures of You.
Mine was Dark Mind, right? I’m all for it after my Jan read.
That said, Amy, it’s already inaccurate. She’s describing what type of jobs she can get like it’s the early fifties, not late 70s. 🙂 Still, just started, so we’ll see.
Lol Tessa, as I was writing my previous comment I was trying to remember which one you were supposed to read. I wrote mine down but not yours. *snort* You could have SO read any book. Ha! But not anymore, you reminded me. It’s The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds #1)
by Alexandra Bracken. You said you’ve been scared to read it and I don’t remember anything scary in it. Not anything outside of a typical YA Dystopian. So yeah. You gotta read that one and I’ll read Red Queen which I probably wouldn’t have without a little prompting. 🙂
The scary part for me is kids dying. Once I get past that, I’m sure I will love it. I still haven’t read Hunger Games because of the red headed 12 year old they showed dead in the movie. That gutted me for some reason. It’s odd because little dude was only 7 or 8 at the time, and he’s blond. Lol
I have the Red Queen by Aveyard?
Have either of you read Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake? It was on super sale a few weeks back.
I think after my January read I might go with Bitter Legacy by Dal Maclean. It was on another list I saw.
I’m not sure how much I’m savoring Wolfsong as I’m reading through it in long stretches.
Going to take a walk (snow!! Walk) and then put some soup on and back to it.
Tessa, in that part of HG I sobbed in the book and sobbed some more in the movie. But I believe it was the plot device that sparked the revolution, so it was necessary.
I don’t recall anything like that in Darkest Minds. I don’t remember if kids die. It’s Dystopian, so the chances are good. But, I don’t remember the heart break I do from HG.
bev, those all sound good to me. Are you reading a more diverse selection now? I also noticed it in your favs.
I’m glad Wolfsong has you hooked. 😉
It’s funny because I do not think my list is that diverse among genres, lol.
I’ve always been a big romance reader but I used to read more from fantasy, mystery, non fiction, and general fiction. A romantic element was always a huge +, even if just enough for a wish, but I feel I have let those slide. So I hope to spread out again this year. Even within the romance genre.
Very much on a YA kick right now , especially with romance.
But I do that. Long stretches of HR, then long stretch of PNR, then NA, then CR, and now YA.
Makes sense. Like you, I’m also partial to books with a romance thread even when they’re not in the romance genre. I guess I do the opposite of what you do. I mix them up and juggle them so that I’m not reading the same trope/genre back to back for too many books in a row. I get burned out quickly with any particular genre if I read it exclusively.
Lately I’ve been picking up more and more of these thriller type books Maryse is reading. I have very few of those in my reading history so they feel sparkly and new to me.
Tessa…what are you reading again for the January book? I can’t remember…
Speaking of dystopian, I have to recommend an old one which was new to me a few years ago…The Long Walk by Stephen King. No romance but it is really good. REALLY good. And it’s Stephen King, so there’s that. 😉
I loved HG, and I wasn’t disappointed with the movies.
Amy, here’s the list of what everyone is reading for January.

Thank you Fabi!
No worries Amy. The rest seems fine. It was the weird comment that as a woman she could only work her farm or be a secretary. Also, if they she could afford college, the only option is teaching. That was just weird.
Bev where are you that you get snow?
Oregon. We rarely get as much as we are now. It’s usually a bare amount and then melts to re freeze leaving ice.
What?!? BEV!!! How did I not know you are so close to me?
Ooooooh, I feel a road trip coming up soon…
I always pictured deep snow winters in Oregon. Damn those TV shows. 😉
Lol, in some parts yes, Fabi. A lot of snow. Just not my part. Well, except for today.
Sounds pretty.
Gorgeous. Nothing like pine trees covered in snow.
Now that’s the Oregon I’ve seen on TV. 🙂
What about Texas, do you ever get snow?
Parts of TX get a lot of it. Parts get none. I’m pretty much guaranteed an ice storm or two every year with the very occasional year with snow (on top of the ice) :-/
I’ve been up in the New England states during winter so at least I have some 1st hand experience with hills of it piled up or beaches turned white under a blanket of it.
Alright, I just got to my January books from authors you’ve read this year, and Veronica Roth has a new series coming out. I only read her books once, so it’ll probably be a library book for me, but I figure if anyone likes her books, you’d want to know. That said, it’s a sci fi. 🙂
Speaking of Jan books, see. This is where Christmas presents go to. Jan releases. There are so many expensive ones that come out this month!
Totally squirreled from my January read and started a fantasy, but it is a pull from my tbr. Then onto my January read.
ummm, what happened to Wolfsong? Dnf for you?
Who Fabi?
I’m picking Wolfing back up pronto. You guys are all loving it WAY TOO MUCH for it to just sit on my Kindle…
Yes Maryse!! *howls*
Sorry Maryse. I was referring to bev who’d started reading it a couple of days ago.
So late to this string but just saw you are reading Hidden Bodies or are done? So curious to see what you think. Don’t want to say anything until I read your review…
Oh no Fabi, I finished it. It was the perfect read to be snowed in with. With no electricity. So, thank you for the rec.
It was a wonderful read, already know it will be on my favorites for 2017.
I already know what quote I’d use, probably everyone’s favorite, lol.
I’d revisit this world in a minute if he decides to continue on with it.
Snowed in with no electricity?! 😮 That’s awful. Is it back yet?
Glad you enjoyed Wolfsong. TJ Klune is going to continue the series but he says it going be until 2018 at the earliest since he has prior writing commitments.
Yes…..knock on wood.
