But there’s more than a game at stake now. Reed’s wife, Nolan, is afraid too. She’s seen what can happen when the love of her life pushes himself too hard, and she can’t escape the nightmares she relives after almost losing her entire world to one single play on the field…”
Amy: I loved Waiting on the Sidelines and the sequel!! Yes, it was teenage angst but it was ANGST! And we love angst in just about any form, don’t we?
Cheryl: …ended up reading another Ginger Scott series, Waiting on the Sidelines. I usually don’t like high school H/h story’s but this was an exception. Book 2 they were college age and had a fair amount of angst.

When Ashes Fall by Marni Mann <— RECENT RELEASE & THE BIGGEST HIT OF THE WEEK!!! OMG LOOK AT THESE REACTIONS!!
Lisa: I have so much love for When Ashes Fall right now. That book owned me. I opened it intending to just get started, since I was at work, and the next thing I know it’s 7 hours later and I’m making enough unladylike crying noises at my desk that my co-worker had to come check on me!!! It’s a gut-wrenching, yet beautiful story. It will break your heart, but also mend it. It is not safe for those averse to Marmies…but it is also NOT about cheating. I had such a visceral reaction to the storyline when it all came together for me.
Michele G: I have to second everything Lisa just said about When Ashes Fall. We buddy read it…well Lisa inhaled it…then I inhaled it…now we are waiting for Jenn…then Renee…and so on… On a serious note, GO IN BLIND! Do avoid it if you don’t like heartbreakers….because I could have buzzed through a case of tissues (no lie). Don’t avoid it for any other reason…there’s really no cheating or anything else that folks might be worried about. It’s a beautiful and unique story. It is written in multiple POV’s (and time periods) which I know Renee is not digging and I confess that I had to get used to it myself at first too …but it really does lend itself to the story. Get in there ladies and read it!!
Jenn: You will all have to forgive me as I am totally in a book that just GUTTED me so what is the book…I was sucked in right from the beginning with the first (4) lines of the book.
Marni Mann is a new to ME author but I am seriously in love with this book even though I am hiccuping/sobbing and feel like I am going to throw up…I love having these reactions goes to tell you how invested I am. This book is owning me!
Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson <— PSYCH-THRLLER SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! This one made my Best of 2018 list and I just found out that it’s on super-sale right now!! It’s a psych-thriller and took me for quite a ride. And of course, and AMAZING ending!! P.S. Here’s my review.
Maria: It is SO good!!!!!
- The Tycoon’s Secretive Temptress (Sinful Nights Book 2) by Elizabeth Lennox
- Killer Daddy (Bad Boy Inc. Book 5) by Eve Langlais
- Burning Roses (Chosen Storm Book 2) by Amanda Perry
Rewind by Sandi Lynn <— LIVE!!! SANDI LYNN ALERT!! HE HAD A SECRET THAT COULD DESTROY THEM... “Since the car accident, I felt like my life was a giant puzzle and I was missing the vital piece that would complete me. Little did I know I would find my missing piece in New York City. He was handsome, kind, and I felt something the moment I met him that I never felt before. For the first time in twelve years, I was happy, and I was convinced that nothing could destroy that feeling...”
- How Not To by Devin Sawyer
- Take Me Away (Reckless Falls) by Theresa Leigh
- Heartsong (What The Heart Calls Book 1) by Emma Monaghan
- Maybe Ever After by Cassie Graham
- Milkman by Shari J. Ryan <— THE MILKMAN 😉 “…This new guy is a milkman and a milk model which is a totally normal career … not much can go wrong. Or, so I thought. It turns out, some women like to hire milkmen for reasons that have nothing to do with milk. It’s weird, trust me. I need to figure out if I can handle the lifestyle of being the milkman’s other half...”
Hollywood Actress (Hollywood Royalty Book 1) by L. Grubb <— FAMOUS HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS IS HOOKED ON DRUGS… “…I know I should be grateful for what I have, and I am, but it’s hard to stay at the top when an epic thunder cloud looms over your head. I have no one in my corner and that’s because no one knows. And it needs to stay that way. Especially as my growing feelings for Hollywood Actor Levi Jameson is on the line…“
AUDIOBOOK L VERS!
For those going on a road trip soon, or maybe you’ve got some projects that require both hands this weekend but still allows you to “listen”… check out the free audible trial + 2 free audiobooks deal —>
R: Renee …My new obsession with audio books continues. I’m now finding things to do around the house just so I’ll have an excuse to “read.” Not that there’s ever a lack of things to do. I just don’t usually do them.
- AND! Here’s the fun-tool again! —> Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! <—
This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans all of your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!

Good Morning and Happy Friday
Love the list Maryse-and I just clicked Allegedly-I need a good thriller as I finished “When Ashes Fall” last night and I HIGHLY recommend this one, the words will move you, the characters will welcome you, and the journey they take you on will be unforgettable! 5+ STARS for me!
I am bracing for the impact this storm that is headed our way is going to do. The Storm warning starts tomorrow morning and goes until 6pm on Monday. I don’t mind as that just means stay home and read 🙂
If anyone else is in an area this storm is hitting please stay safe and WARM as here tomorrow it is going to be 0 degrees and with the windchill it will feel like -15…Yikes my poor babies will not be able to go for their walks. 🙁
Jennifer you guys are KILLING me wanting to read “When Ashes Fall” SO BADLY!!!!
What’s a Marmie?
Hi Jenn B!
Amy (a fellow reader here) and I (Maryse) = Marmy <--- as some of our book choices have been dubbed. Because we both love books that are very angsty, or dark, or crazy twist endings, or maybe even NO HEA (a character might die in the end). We love anything that will make us feel EXTREMELY in one way or another. From ugly crying, to fuming, to gasping. Some find our tastes a little extreme (the low angst lovers, and those that want a promised HEA - Happily Ever After) so they call some of our favorite books "Marmy books" And here's one of our favorite book lists that we compiled of "Marmy" books 😉 https://www.maryse.net/books/book-recommendations/the-ultimate-marmy-book-list.html
Yes, snowmageddon!! We’re hoping for 8-10. I don’t even remember the last time we had that much snow. I went grocery shopping yesterday to stock up for it. Only thing is, we were supposed to have a couple birthday parties and a baby shower to attend this weekend. It’s possible I’ll be stuck cleaning, movie watching, and sledding instead. 😛
Tasha J it sounds like tons of fun!!!!
I’ll try and see what book that is… I can’t remember but I’ll do a search. 😀
I’ve been watching tv instead of reading, again, lately. There’s just no time in the day for me to really get anywhere with reading. It doesn’t help that I took on more kids and haven’t had a break from my own in a month.
I’ve been watching Glee. It’s weird, but I kind of like it. I had to pause on Gossip Girl, too much drama is depressing and slightly annoying.
Like, Shameless for example. It’s not one to binge. I love it, but it really sours the mood.
Sorry Maryse this is just one of those books….you know…the books that are worthy of sidelining your current read just to read it..THIS IS ONE OF THOSE. okay I am going to stop talking about it now! 🙂
Tasha, I have a birthday party too, one of my nephews turned 10 today and we are celebrating Sunday….the good news is they are within walking distance so we will definitely be able to make it. We have not had that much snow in so long either and they are predicting 10-17 inches where I am-Enjoy your time sledding, I miss that as a kid.
Jenn B it is Maryse and Amy’ names smashed together…..though then “Marmy”?
Anyway it has now become code for books where no one is happy. They break up, cheat, or jump in front of trains.
LOL bev!!!!!!!!! OMG THE BEST ANSWER EVER!!!
*giggling* over Bev’s discription of a “Marmy”
BTW Jenn B none of those things Bev mentioned happened in “When Ashes Fall”…….just saying 🙂
*snort*
Oh yeah Jenn?? I’m hearing about all sorts of ugly crying. I’m not sure I believe you. 😉
But don’t tell me!!!
R, please right a book titled:
Tears of sorrow and rage.
And then on the cover those little blurbs.
From ugly crying, to fuming, to gasping.
~Maryse of Maryse’s Book Blog
Punched me right in the ovaries.
~Amy a Goodreads review
I’m scared.
~Leslie a potential reader
Don’t do it Jean
~bev a friend of Jean
Totally turning the latest “What’s a Marmy” question into a reader question post, with bev’s answers as the response. 😛 TOTALLLY!!!
OH. YES. It’s for all of our new readers that missed the post from a year or two ago.
I want to say it was around Halloween time? I can’t remember what it was but they were a series of short scary stories or something.
who needs a funny book….when you got BEV…. I’ll just stay here and read her comments. 🙂
You guys make me laugh.
This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills is on sale. I had to get it cause that cover.
I’m cracking up! I really was getting ready to post about ALL of the good looking books up there and then I read the comments. Now, everything I was going to say has flown out of my head because I’m too busy laughing! Good luck to all of those anticipating snowmageddon this weekend…we had ours last weekend. I think we are expecting 3 inches of snow tomorrow but that’s “child’s play” and no big deal after getting a foot last week 🙂 Everyone stay warm and safe!! Happy reading!
Tasha I found them. 🙂 from Maryse’s 10/6/18 post.
Hannah-Beast (Dark Corners collection)
The Sleep Tight Motel (Dark Corners collection)
There’s a Giant Trapdoor Spider Under Your Bed (Dark Corners collection)
Miao Dao (Dark Corners collection)
The Tangled Woods (Dark Corners collection)
The Remedy (Dark Corners collection)
Tasha, YOU’RE WATCHING GLEE?! Oh my heart, I love that show!!!
Stupid snow coming here. 🙁 We are getting over a foot.
Bev, I love your book idea! *giggles* (I also cracked up over the Marmy definition)
*cackles and chokes on cottage cheese over bev’s book blurb ideas*
Maryse, you have to find the comment bev made a while ago about not being allowed in the death club and add it to the Marmy reader question post. 😛
On it, Amy!!!! 😀
*begins search quest*
Amy… LOL I just found this one by her (it made me cackle) “Then we’ll all pretend to read it…” <--- *snort* 😛 Here's bev's comment in full: I’m starting to think we should make a Tessa, Jan,Maryse, and bev book club. Jan can have us read HR. Tessa PNR and Bullies. Maryse Marmy/Death club. And I YA. Which means we’d probably all try Jan and Tessa’s books. Then when Maryse chooses we’d pretend to read it by pretending to cry. *snort* 😛
Thanks Jenn!! They’re all kindle unlimited too, yay! 😀
Glee, it’s so kooky, but I sort of really like it. I like the movies with singing and dancing and I like the way they do it in Glee too. Feel good vibes. And funny too. When Sue says she doesn’t like Wll cuz she can’t trust him cuz he has curly hair and it’s a nesting ground for birds or something, *cackles* so funny!
LOL!! I can’t wait to see the post with all of her Marmy comments on one place. 😆
Oh. My. God. Go to work and everything goes upside down.
I dont even remember that book club discussion.
Club of death was when Michelle was making fun of me for being scared. I miss Michelle.
Look. We need the Squirrel candle.
https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2019/01/lit-wicks-contemporary-outdoorsy-heroes/
Tasha years ago my mom and I tried to watch The Sopranos together. We liked it but were doing mini marathons and finally stopped. It started effecting our moods.
Don’t forget to add the Blankie Fort & Mannie the Manatee to the Marmy post. And peanut throwing!
I’m reading Year One, by Nora Roberts. Already hooked. Post Apocalyptic, mixed with Irish “Magick”… characters I already love…. so so good. Haven’t read her in years. Forgot how great a writer she is.
Haven’t thrown peanuts in FOREVER! I’m throwing Nay a stack of peanuts – for Year One! There.
I remember “club of death” and the book that shall not be named. Good times. Good Times.
I miss Michelle the vet too! And Fabi. Get your selves back here pronto!
Hello!!! Soooooo….I started reading The Kiss Thief earlier today and I am HOOKED!!! My catnip…bully and arranged marriage. Not too far in yet but that Wolfe is a big ole meanie!
Alright, I bought When Ashes Fall but I have to read my library books and my 10 waiting in Kindle Unlimited and my book club read and and and…. 🙂
I refuse to read a book anymore if it mentions Billionaire ANYWHERE!
I read My Half Night Stand and LOVED LOVED LOVED it.
Have a good weekend!
Why isn’t Carnage on that Marmy list?????
Do you regulars know what happens to regular commentators who suddenly stop?
oops *marmie
One we can bother on GR if the mood strikes. But otherwise no. Well, for me. Some on here might have more personal contact.
I’ll have to look it up DG. I like fake, arranged, or marriage of convenience tropes.
Fabi seems happy in her GR group now. That’s the only one I know.
I want a PNR/ Bully club. THIS needs to happen. It would be a club of awesome.
MichelleS, I keep wanting to read that! So much. I used to read her all the time, but she’s so prolific it gets expensive. lol I was kicking myself for seeing the sale on Year One the day after it ended. *sniffles* It sounds so good, and now Irish myth? *Whimpers* I WANT!
Glee! I loved Glee, until they went to college. Then I stopped halfway. It lost the zip that it had for me, though I know it was still huge after I stopped.
Tessa – that would be an awesome club….
Tessa – I got the eBook from my library. Her books are too pricey for me, but I really needed a seasoned author & editor, ya’ know?
PNR/Bully club? YAAASSSS! I’m so there.
Yes…and glitter *pouts*. How could anyone forget my glitter?
I am in need of a bully, I know I’ve got one coming soon, like super soon…*squee* but I’m in that mode right now.
I’m in blizzard mode too. We are supposed to get 2 feet…depending on which channel you watch, but that’s the latest forecast, so things might get dicey on my end. Supposed to be a heavy snow with bitter cold on the end too, so that’s never good. Sending my prayers out to everyone, stay safe this weekend!
Good Morning
Our forecast was 10-18″ yesterday with wind gusts 40+ mph and now it’s 14-20″ with wind gusts 50+ mph and we also have a wind chill warning. It’s supposed to hit us around 1 pm today and last till 6pm Sunday. So I am at work to get some things done and get home. I bought my furbabies new warm jackets yesterday and they love them. Even though I will not be walking them in this storm I will still have to take them out to go to bathroom so at least they will be covered somewhat.
Please everyone stay safe and warm if you are being impacted by this storm. xoxo
For all you mafia lovers 🙂 I was looking for a book where the authors name is a form of “Katherine” for one of my challenge reads and found this box set on sale today for .99 if you have KU it is free…
The Syndicate Series Boxset-Kathy Coopmans there are 5 books in the series! Enjoy!
Finished The Consequence of Falling by Claire Contreras. I loved the surprise at the end- I’m wondering if it’s a new book by a certain author or what? There was no real explanation.
Not sure what the winter storm will bring us. Heard we’ll mainly get heavy rain starting late tonight, which could be bad with the temperature drop. I’m taking train 4:30AM tomorrow so hoping I miss all the craziness. Heading to VA- my Dad is having surgery. At least my daughter doesn’t have school Monday or Tuesday.
Now to charge my kindle and decide what book I want to read on the train.
Stay safe everyone.
I dont want terrible storms, but jealous of the snow.
Cheryl I hope your dad is ok. A train ride in the snow could be amazing.
For those of you who like/love Colleen Hoover, on Book Outlet they have three of her books including All Your Perfects, Confess, and Ugly Love. All Your Perfects is $4.79. I already have All Your Perfect but what I a great price!! Need to read it!
Just finished One from Jewel E. Ann and didn’t realize that Flint for that story was the main hero in Look The Part. Now, I need to reread that book.
Tessa have you read Maria Vale?
Tessa & MichelleS a debut but popular YA author called NR out on social media for plagiarizing her title to get buys. I guess people were like…..um you can’t plagiarize a title and NR doesnt need to help to sell.
Who’s the author and what title?
And you can’t plagiarize illegally a title.
I went to google it. Is it Nora Roberts and Tomi Adeyemi? Because that one is pure stupidity in action.
Yep, that is who it was. I’m not on social media but I get the Book Riot romance newsletter and it was mentioned a few weeks ago. So I had to Google it too. So odd.
The Vale book is The Last Wolf. It was on a list I saw on frolic. Mentioned fans of the Others might like it.
What’s funny is a lot of people were being told that Tomi’s book would be their type, and the ones who’s type it was were saying, based on the drama, no thanks. 0.0
MichelleS–I will definitely read that–thank you! Y’all probably won’t believe it, but I don’t think I’ve ever read a Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb book. But I’ve read lots of Danielle Steel, Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia Cornwell, etc.
I just looked and my library has Year One, so I can check out the ebook for free! I just have to see if I’m going to be able to resist continuing with the series I’m reading right now.
And speaking of… I HIGHLY recommend the 44 Chapters series by B.B. Easton if you’re looking for a coming of age series that’s full of non-stop excitement (sex, drugs, romance, fast cars, rock ‘n roll). The books are based on B.B. Easton’s life from 15 on (although she’s 15, these are NOT YA), and each book features the story of her life during the time she’s dating a different boyfriend. They are well written and edited and are full of non-stop wild tales of a young girl who’s learning EVERYTHING about life and love (I don’t see how she made it through her junior and senior years of high school!) I LOVED book #1, Skin, and I’m almost finished with book #2, Speed, and I’m loving it just as much. Star is next and I don’t think I can stop!
I started When Ashes Fall, and at only 6% I was pretty sure I knew what’s going on. Now, at 12%, I’m 99% sure of it. If I’m wrong, all y’all can smack my a$$ and call me Sally.
Obviously there is foreshadowing, and obviously there will be a twist, but I wish the blurb had been even more vague so I wouldn’t have guessed the twist. Or maybe after reading so many books I’ve just about read it all as far as storylines go and have little left to be surprised by. That makes me kinda sad. 🙁
That being said, I’m liking it so far! 😀 Now if I can just resist the urge to look at spoilers (under the guise of being in the right mind frame *snicker*) and see if I’m right…
Amy I think it’s ’cause it was so insistent (in the blurb and via everyone) that this was NOT a cheating-love triangle book… and the whole book seems to be written as if it WAS that way, so going in KNOWING it’s not, loses that OMG NO effect…
BUT I CRIED!!!!!! LOL! 😛
Amy, the blurb made me think of another book we read a few years back, that had an interesting twist.
Exxxxxxxxxactly, Cheryl. EXACTLY. And I know we’re thinking of the same one.
*hiccup*
Cheers anyone??
Not cheers to anything in particular, just that we’re friends and there is SO MUCH LOVE HERE!!!!!!!!!
I so want to hang out with you guys at a sleepover.
Just sayin.
Nay-I’m totally with you on the B.B. Easton series-I’m almost done with Speed too
Amy-a sleepover could you just imagine that would be epic!
Amy, I so wish we could do sleepover and/or lived near each other to do BRs in person. You could make drinks, Maryse could make yummy healthy food, we could babysit J-man, play with everyone’s fur babies, etc. Somebody move to central Massachusetts.
Then we could play in the snow.
My hubs and I just got done with cleaning 25” of snow from our driveway took us 2 hours with him using snowblower and me with a shovel and it’s still snowing love it though it looks so pretty on all our evergreen trees
Marrryyyyyse! Come on, have another book bash for us…and then, you know, most of *us* can just have a sleepover at your house. *pastes on most innocent smile* (this is how the best rumors get started)
Yeah, we’re snowed in too…it’s pretty…but a nightmare in actuality. I’m so over it.
What’s everyone else up to today?
Grey, definitely am not a fan of dangerous storms.
But snow is magical.
A couple years ag it snowed a lot for my area, which is nothing like you all get, lol. But almost to my knees. I’d go for a short walk in the evening when everyone was all tucked in their houses.
It was so silent. Only the crunching of my own foot steps. The occasional plop of snow falling off the evergreens. And the air was so cold and clean. That wonderful snow smell.
Then I’d go home and read this poem:
https://m.poemhunter.com/poem/snowy-night/
I’ve been thinking of it because Mary Oliver just passed this week.
*holds head and groans* Too many drinks last night…
I know it’s easy for me to say because I’m not in the midst of it, and it’s probably because I rarely get any here, but I am jealous of all of you getting so much snow. Like bev said, the smell in the air and the beautiful, soft silence is incredible. That said, I hope it clears up enough for all of your lives to return to normal soon.
Leslie and Grey are making me want a sleepover even more now!
Yes, Maryse! I think that’s what convinced me of what is happening. I get why the author would put in the blurb that this is not a cheating book, so anyone with an aversion to cheating would not pass it up. But still, it sucks for me, LOL!
But like the book Cheryl and I were talking about, I think this one is going to sloooooowly break my heart. The other book did that because I figured out right away what was going on. Instead of taking a sledgehammer to my heart, which I’m sure was the intent, it used a chisel and slowly, painfully broke it apart little by little. I’m still achy over that one!
Amy, I swear, I’m gonna send my niece’s best friend to you. lol At my niece’s bachelorette, she kept shoving water bottles at everyone and saying STAY HYDRATED. 😀 Especially to my niece.
I’m reading a book that the synopsis is kind of like another book I read, as far as the “magic”. That said, the story itself is very different and actually better written. 🙂 I loved the first one, but this one is just more mature. Not much angst since the beginning, but I think that’s deliberate.
Hi guys! I just finished reading One day in december by Josie Silver and I loved it. I am a big sucker for these type of books. Can someone recommend me books like this? With theme where hero and heroine loved each other for a long time? I read The opportunist, A love letter to whiskey which were a bit similar. Thanks for any recommendation!
Katie Reus has release out Tuesday – Covert Games
Katie Reus has new release out Tuesday – Covert Games.
S C Stephens has new series coming in April
Dena, Ghosted by J.M. Darhower is my favorite 2nd chance romance.
Dena…I second Ghosted as a second chance romance. Also, have you ever read Sweet Gum Tree? An older one (around here) but one of my favorite second chance romances.
Tessa…sounds like I could use your niece’s friend here. She is wise beyond her years. *giggle*
Leslie M… thanks! I haven´t read this one yet and I am gonna start tonight
Amy… Yes I have read that one but a long time ago… so maybe it is time for re-read haha
We have ONE last best of 2018 list that just came in… Pia’s in Denmark!!
