But you know what they say, the moment you stop looking, the right one finds you…”

- Scary Stories to tell in the Dark by by Alvin Schwartz & Stephen Gammell <— OMG HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THESE!!??? I love scary stories!!!

The entire time I watched it, I chanted I my head, “no thank you, no thank you, no!” But, at the same time, I’m intrigued. I kind of, ACTUALLY wanna watch a scary movie. Believe it or not, I once was obsessed with them. Until 2009. Maybe I wanna taste of that thrill again? *waggles eyebrows*
Maryse: YES THANK YOU, YES THANK YOU!!!! I WANNA!!!!
Tessa: I remember that book! I remember the stories pretty well, as it’d come out during slumber parties and someone would read it. And of course, I’d be freaking out, and if it was one I hadn’t heard, nightmare galore. It was to the point that one parent forbade me to be in the same room with those stories because my screams kept waking her up. lol
- Carry the World by Susan Fanetti <— BEST OF MAY!
Jan: my best read of May. Hands down, it was Carry The World, Susan Fanetti’s latest book. A really beautiful read. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Depression-era Appalachians. A lonely widowed mountain man with two kids has a slow-burn romance with a lonely widow who visits his remote farm once a fortnight to deliver free library books for his kids. Makes you cry and smile and feel warm inside.
Linda: Jan I agree!! LOVED this read. One of my May favorites!!
Mari: I agree with Jan and Linda. Carry the World was the best book I read in May. I’ll definitely read it again.
- Training Maisy by Samantha Morgan <— SHE THINKS SHE’S NOT DESIRABLE “…After joining a gym, a steamy night with Maisy’s personal trainer leads to more heartbreak when he tells her they can never be an item. - The Culling Trials by KF Breene and Shannon Mayer <— Tessa LOVED these!
Tessa: Oooh, best of the month time, or almost for those of us in the western hemisphere. 2 for me were above the rest. The Culling Trials 2 by KF Breene and Shannon Mayer. These two should work together more often. The second book did NOT disappoint.
- The Shape of Me (Soul Catcher Book 1) by Jayme Ford <— LIVE!! “…Catching the souls of creatures and using them to change form is a biological right in a world of shifters. Unable to harness this gift has made Vex feel alone. When the city she lives in collapses around her, she scrambles to escape. - Dragon Slayer (Sons of Rome Book 3) by Lauren Gilley <— PARANORMAL & MICHELLE S LOVES IT!
MichelleS: Going to be an amazing reading weekend for me! I just started Dragon Slayer (Sons of Rome Book 3), by Lauren Gilley. Squee I love this author. I love this series. So original. Mixing paranormal with historical figures & it totally works. Great characters & amazing story telling. Set in our world. Just freaking fantastic. I somehow missed the release. Glad Amazon recommended it based on my reading history. It’s a LOOONG book, just like her others. Happy happy camper here!
MichelleS: Val…Vlad’s brother…. is so dang hot! Vampires & werewolves, oh my!! Y’all, if you haven’t read this series, you’re missing out!
Tessa: I gotta get started on this series. I just keep forgetting it.
MichelleS: I think this is right up your alley! There are three now, and they are LONG books. Slow to start. Stick with it. Sooooo Worth it. Completely original. So many great characters to sink your teeth into.

The Ballers can do their worst, but I will earn a spot on the RHS boys’ team…”
- Storm Cursed (A Mercy Thompson Novel Book 11) by Patricia Briggs <— Tessa & MichelleS both LOVED this one!
Tessa: Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs. I love visiting Mercy’s world. One of my favorite places ever. Also, miniature zombie goats.
MichelleS: My May fave too was miniature zombie goats! Mercy Thompson will undoubtedly land as my favorite read anytime a new one is released. That series is still going strong. Adam was extra swoony touchy feely in this one. Wish there would have been a Bran sighting. Vote #2 for Storm Cursed as best of May.
- Love Hard by Hazel Parker <— BIKER BOOK ALERT!! SHE’S HIS DAUGHTER’S TEACHER… “…After my wife died, I’m all that my teenage daughter has left. And she’s growing up too fast. Each author personally selected an enticing preview of their work for you to sample...”
Michelle Mankin: This is an amazing group. I so admire these women. You might have heard we are doing a meet and greet together at Book Bonanza, August 9th 6-8 pm here in Grapevine, Texas (my hometown) at the Gaylord Hotel. And we are giving away 2500 one of a kind autograph books, for FREE, to ALL the attendees of the event.
We also put together an-ebook anthology, two volumes with never before combined samples of our work. Readers can preview our stories, then link at the end to purchase the full length book if they want to read more. And I just sent out an email to my subscribers to warn them, they will want to read more.
This group is wickedly talented, as well as being incredibly supportive and generous. I’m honored to be included with them.
All profit from Rocking at Book Bonanza, Volume 1 & Rocking at Book Bonanza, Volume 2 are going to the Bookworm Box. Good deeds. Great reads.

Looks like I’m first. I’m reading the most intriguing book. I don’t know if anyone else has read it. It’s called “The other half of Augusta Hope”. The writing is very clever. It’s almost written like statement text. I don’t know if it’s a style. But it’s really very good. It takes a little to get into but I’m really enjoying it. It’s definitely worth a read.
Just had to drop in and let you know.
YAY!!! Thank you Melinda! I’ll add it to today’s list for those that want to try it too. 😀
Strange… it looks like it’s not available in Kindle format. Only print…
Maybe it is just released in Australia?
Looks like it is a 2019 release. We can get hardcover and paperback through Amazon…but like Maryse said there is no Kindle option currently.
So probably because it’s a UK release first. We’ll probably get it within a year *fingers crossed*
Maryse, I actually got it on Netgalley. It’s the most unusual book. I really enjoyed it. If you have a look at the reviews on goodreads they are all nearly 5 stars. There’s no chapters it’s written in third person and it’s base on a twin named Augusta whose quite eccentric and extremely smart and quirky, from the age of 9 until 27 years and then there’s another character called Parfait who is a refugee from Brundi in Africa.
It’s quite emotional though. Distressing at times. Really clever writing.
“ I turned to look at him.
he turned to look at me.
he smiled, and his mouth made dimples on his cheeks.
Burundi, he said.
The world kept turning, I was stuck.
Held.
Not breathing.
It came over me – the feeling. Was it a feeling? Or was it a change in the atmosphere like a storm?
“
I wanna read it badly Melinda!! I’m going to keep my eye out for it. 😀
Kind of like the writing in Wolfsong maybe?
I’ve never read anything like it before. It’s like the.whole book is poetry. Or they are statements. It’s different from Wolfsong. Maybe Nay has read it. 😊
Nope, I haven’t read it. I looked up the ASIN and found a cached copy from March on Amazon US, but it had a different cover, and now it’s gone. So I guess we’ll get it eventually.
I read the synopsis on Goodreads. I think I now have to read it. Finding a copy seems to be the challenge…
I contacted the publisher to ask when it’s going to be available on Amazon US for kindle. I’ll let y’all know if I hear anything.
I agree with Jan and Linda. Carry the World was the best book I read in May. I’ll definitely read it again.
I need to read this…
Thanks to all of your for pointing it out. I bet it’s awesome.
I just one-clicked it. I’m going to start it tonight. I can’t resist!!!
BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!! I am IN LOVE with “Carry The World” so far. Ahhhhh so happy to be reading it. 🙂
Yay! My current book is meh, so I may start CTW tonight!
I’m reading Coldhearted Boss. It’s really good so far! I’m still in a paranormal/fantasy mood though. The Culling Trials and Sons of Rome series sound intriguing. Which Nora Roberts did you recommend a while ago, Tessa?
I’m not Tessa, but I’m pretty sure she mentioned The Chronicles of the One series by Nora Roberts. The books are Year One and Of Blood and Bone. The third one, The Rise of Magicks, is due out later this year (I think). I’ve read them as well and they were both very good!!
I think it was this one, Tasha:
https://www.maryse.net/reading-order-guide/nora-roberts-chronicles-of-the-one-trilogy-reading-order.html
Hell ya! I love her writing, to begin with, but add paranormal, gah! The last book will come out until Nov. Still HIGHLY recommend, as it doesn’t end on a CH, but more of an HFN, with something more looming to come.
MichelleS recommended The Year of One to me as well. I’m waiting for it to become available at the library any day now. Then I should get Of Blood and Bone within the next 2 weeks.
The Culling trails are fun to read. The books are short though. The 3rd book comes out soon so at least you can binge read if you’d like.
I started The Savior last night. This morning, I can’t remember a thing about the heroine. Not a good sign! Ugh. BDB used to be one of my favorite series. It’s on loan from library. May just squirrel…
https://giphy.com/gifs/movie-up-NoHe3HpB1Mg8w
Definitely not a good sign… when I first devoured the BDB, I LIVED there in my mind. There was no skimming ever, and I could see everything vividly (and feel it too).
I’m still several books behind on BDB/BDB Legacy. I don’t want to be behind, because I never used to miss reading a release the very day it came out!
Have a great Friday everyone. Hope everyone comes to chat. It is not a hug, but it is handsome.
Awwwww!! He gave us a heart.
Craving Rose by Nicole Jacquelyn is out today also.
GASP!!! Thank you Kathy!! I’m adding it now. 😀 I love that author!
Me, too; definitely one of my favorite authors.
Have to have a glitter bomb, right? This is my version. 😛
So many good books to come out with academies and bullies. So of course, I want Magic and Misconduct. 😀
Pretty!!!!!
Hi Everyone!
I have been binging on The Elite Seven series by various authors. The series is complete and OMG those books are sooooo good. Each author had one sinner to write about and mash it into one cohesive story. They all delivered. I’m still wondering how they can do that.
KS Adkins, one of my favorite authors, has a free book out called Hormotional. It’s about a couple that meet later in life during her “hormonal” years. It’s supposed to be funny. I love all her books and free is a plus!
I just found out CM Stunich just hit the button to release book 4 in the Filthy Rich Boys series, In the Arms of the Elite. I’ll be stalking Amazon today for that!
Amelia Hutchins, Playing With Monsters is free on Amazon.
Oooh. Thanks on the update about CM Stunich. 😀
Oh thank you!! Been waiting.
And now Amazon is taking FOREVER to upload it! lol
Where the heck is that book? Grrrr!
I’ve started The Flatshare by Beth O Leary. I’m really loving it! I’ve nixed the paranormal for a moment. I always feel like I really need to dedicate myself to those so that i can fully disappear and I can’t do that today. Lol
I really want this one, but keep telling my finger, “No finger. You mustn’t click buy.”
This is why I wish all books had at least 1 share option. I’d loan it to u if it did!
Speaking of paranormal–Tasha, have you read the Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens? It’s SO good! I read the first 3 books years ago and I thought the series was over, but then she put out 3 more and I just now got back to them. I’ve been getting the audio books free with the Audible romance package. The h is a cemetery restorer, and the storyline deals with ghosts and spirits in a Southern Gothic setting and also has some romance and angst (enough to keep me happy). I rec’d them to a friend, and she’s zoomed through all 6 in a couple of weeks. There’s a prequel, but I never read it.
Oh, that sounds really good, Nay. Thank you!! ☺️
Happy Saturday!! I think I am finally recovered from my daughter’s HS graduation and festivities. Lot of work getting ready for her grad party and dramatics with extended family visiting. Felt like I was living a rom-com. Running around getting house and food for party ready like a chicken with his head cut off; mother-in-law wanting all the attention and pouting; son’s retainer going missing; husband getting the stomach flu and throwing up for 2 days and then my daughter going away for senior week. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions. Exhausting physically and emotionally.
I am now relaxing outside on my patio enjoying all the pots of flowers I did for the party and looking for my next book. I did just finish Coldhearted Boss. Funny read.
Starting an old one in my tbr by same author just finished a bonus epilogue for Hook Shot. Flow, Grip series. We’ll see… anybody else read this?
I read the Soul series, which led up to the Grip series. I thought it was pretty good, but I didn’t really care much for the MC’s for the Grip series, so I didn’t continue.
Finished Magic and Mayhem. Meh. Not a bully book at all, but more, I only know one guy’s personality beyond superficial, (and two I don’t even have superficial). She was also a Mary Sue. Oh well. One less on the TBR.
Guess what just went live?! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SVPWVVV
CM Stunich’s book 4 of the Filthy Rich Boys series!
Yay! Though I’m in the middle of another book at the moment. 🙂
Just had a WHOLE FUN DAY of graduation festivities!! I had to wake up at 5am to get ready so we could get there on time (it was starting early) but guess what my luck was?
I woke up at 2:19am and STAYED AWAKE the whole time… UGH SOOOO tired right now.
But I had fun, and smiled the whole day and got completely soaked in a rainstorm, but all is right with the rain. 😉
Good day. And now I’m home, snuggled in bed with my puppies and I’m back here with you all!!
Okay, I’m behind. Who graduated?
A close friend’s son, and then we had the afterparty at my house. 🙂 So fun!!
WITH HONORS!!! Very proud. <3
That’s awesome!
looking forward for the new Jamie McGuire book. I recently re-read her old stuff and remembered all the nights it kept me up!!! (Because I couldn’t put the book down to go to bed 😂)
Who is watching Big Little Lies 2 tonight?!
What?!! I didn’t know that was already done and ready to be televised. Cool!
Starting now!! If only this wiggly baby would sleep.
