Becky: A little too far by Lisa Desrochers holy moly I couldn’t put that one down and still can’t stop thinking about it!
- Dismount (Off Balance book #5) by Lucia Franco <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK! Maria & Sharon F LOVED IT!
Maria: This series is the BEST!!! Each book is so, so perfect. Dismount the last one and it is incredibly amazing!! It left me at a loss for words.
Sharon F: I haven’t posted much on my reading for a long time now. Life just has been hard. I found myself in a reading funk and NOTHING appealed to me.
I looked thru my Kindle and thought I would give Balance by Lucia Franco a try. I downloaded it with Execution and Releases ages ago from your recommendation here. I abandoned Balance a few times because it just didn’t catch me – well, I picked it back up many months ago and I could not put it down.
This series has EVERYTHING I look for in a book. Angst, the male lead was a Russian jerk – it was complicated by age. I could go on and on. I tore thru the 3 books, not knowing there was a fourth book. Well, amazon banned it and the other books. I caved and bought Twist on Apple (?) books. It was worth the price, but there was another huge cliffhanger, with no date on the fifth book. This is why I try to read an entire series – I’m just not patient and this series riveted me to distraction, and that hasn’t happened since Thoughtless.
Finally, Dismount released early and I devoured it. I had to keep putting it down because I could only take the angst in small doses and I didn’t want it to end. I can’t recommend this series enough. Because the story is controversial, the author is going to be releasing re-edited books to conform with delicate sensitivity. I give this series a solid five plus stars. Happy angsty reading!
Maryse: Thank you SO much for that feedback. It looks like the author has finalized the edits as the books are all available again on Amazon. 🙂
- Chosen by Marla Meyers <—LIVE!!! SOMETHING CRAZY HAPPENS & SHE KEEPS THE SECRET… “…When she travels to the farm where she grew up, something extraordinary happens. R. Renee: I just finished Boyfriend Material and it was awesome!! Def a top ten pick for 2020.
Paceluvr: R., I just had to pick up Boyfriend Material because of Maryse’s rec a while back and then yours today. I LOVED IT and devoured it one sitting. Hands down best book of the year for me so far!! Thanks so much for mentioning it. That needs to be optioned for a movie ASAP!
R. Renee: I was just talking to a friend about it! I adored it! Did you read Red, White & Royal Blue? That one was even better! I only picked up BM because the cover reminded me of that one!
Paceluvr: I loved that one! BM gave me the added Bridget Jones vibes that I loved with crazy friends and daily hijinx too.
R. Renee: Yes!! I got a Notting Hill vibe too!
- Carson: A Dark Irish Mafia Romance (Dangerous Doms) by Jane Henry <— LIVE!
- Fate on Fire (Stars Book 3) by E. L. Todd <— LIVE!
- What You Wish For: A Novel by Katherine Center <— RECENT RELEASE AND WE HAVE FEEDBACK! Michele G 5-starred it!
Michele G: I read Katherine Center’s What You Wish For and Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louise and really enjoyed them both. It was a good weekend 🙂
Although for a while, I wasn’t sure where my rating would land for What You Wish For (because I agree with Harper…the h drove me a little nuts), I still settled on 5 stars…I felt that she pulled it all together in a satisfying way for me by the end.
Harper: I received an ARC of What you Wish For by Katherine Center a while ago. I gave it 3 stars. I really enjoyed it. It was funny, insightful, and heartwarming. It lost the two stars because I wanted to shake some sense into de the h a few times, but I recommend it.
Mony: Thanks Harper and Michele for the rec about Katherine Center’s What You Wish For…will definitely be reading it.
R: It’s not necessary because it works as a standalone but the H in WYWF is introduced in Happiness for Beginners which is great too.
- Dear Emmie Blue: A Novel by Lia Louis <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK! Michele G 5-starred this one, too!
Michele G: Dear Emmie Blue caught me totally by surprise. I thought I’d most likely enjoy it…but I really loved it. Even though I could see some of the plot twists coming…I didn’t see them all.
There were a few times with that one as well where I wanted to slap some sense into the h, but I’m beginning to think that’s more of a “me thing”…as in I’ve read too many books and have lost patience with the nonsense now.
There were some really beautiful and realistic things (at least in my opinion) about Emmie Blue that secured it a 5 star rating as well from me.
- The Vicarious Life of Mina Price by Kendra Jones <— LIVE!! SHE LOVES COOKING SHOWS LIKE I DO!!! “…Mina’s favorite escape has become Nigella Lawson. Whether she’s mentoring aspiring chefs or whipping up seasonal delights on a holiday special, Mina is captivated by Nigella’s exuberance and begins to wonder if channeling that vivacious energy into her own lackluster life might be the key to turning things around. When two new men unexpectedly enter her life and start vying for her attention, just as a long deferred dream begins to reemerge with promise, will Mina finally resolve to discover her own voice and pursue the life she truly desires?“
- Stealing Stars by Regan Ure <— LIVE!!
- Treachery (Antihero Inferno Book 1) by Lily White <— BULLY BOOK ALERT!! AMBER IS LOVING THIS!!
Amber: I just started reading Treachery by Lily White. I’m only 15% into it and I know it’s going to be a page turner. I’m already trying to find time during my work day to read it. Lol.
There are going to be 9 books, each with their own story. The 2nd book Fraud is already out. And Violence is out on the 29th!! So excited for a new series!!!!!
Harper: I decided to give the shapeshifters a chance and Im reading a few books of the genre for the first time (I read twilight, of course, a long time ago). Any recommendations?
So far I read The Wildflower Series by Rachelle Mills, Becoming His by Albany Walker, Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright (tried the second book, but it was super tiresome) and now Im reading Bitten by Kelley Armstrong.
bev: Patricia Briggs. Mercy Thompson is one of my favorite heroines.
Jan: Patricia Briggs is excellent – I agree, bev. She’s a must-read. If you want to just try her out, her Alpha and Omega novella is an excellent intro and sampler of her style.
Mony: I also enjoyed The Others series by Anne Bishop…however, it’s low on the romance scale (darn). But my all time favourite book in this genre is Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. I’m thinking it’s time to do a re-read. 🙂
Bev: Whoa! Times have changed. I have changed. I didn’t even think to rec Written in Red. I must leave the Courtyard.
Jan: Ha ha ha. I remember when you used to rec that book so hard, and now you’ve forgotten it??? bev, bev, bev. *shakes head*.
Michele G: It’s not werewolves…but if you’re going paranormal, I really enjoyed the Dark Elements series by Jennifer L. Armentrout….gargoyles & demons primarily. Another series I enjoyed (shapeshifter-wise) is Dannika Dark’s Seven series. Also, I enjoyed the first couple of Hettie Ivers books in the Werelock Evolution series. Also, the It’s You duet by Katy Regnery (writing as K.P. Kelley) was really enjoyable.
Jan: I also really liked the Seven series by Dannika Dark. And for sexy, spicy shifters, Cherise Sinclair’s Wild Hunt series is good, but, menage alert in case that’s not your thing. It’s not usually my thing either, actually, but I did like the first two books.
Harper: Thanks a lot! So many good recomendations. My weekend will be busy now. Love it!!! I never really liked menage either, but in Feral Sins there was a really good scene.
Maryse: I actually bought that book back when that scene was still in there. YAY ME!! I haven’t read it yet…

Ashley: I just listened to Flirtasaurus by Erin Mallon and loved it! It was really fun and funny. It had great banter and her inner (accidentally turned outer) monologue made me laugh. She has always been one of my favorite narrators so it was great to listen to a book she wrote herself.

Ghost Note by Vicki James was just released and it’s on Kindle Unlimited. I loved Cherry Beats and Dirty Rock.
Adding it now, An18!! 😀 Thank you so much!!!
Oh thanks for the reminder. Cherry Beats is one of my fave rockstar romances!! I still need to read Dirty Rock and now Ghost Note too 🙂
I have a three day weekend and I’m super excited that I do not have many plans. The yard work is done. The laundry is done. (I should probably clean the house). BUT still, that means I get to read a whole lot.
I just listened to Flirtasaurus by Erin Mallon and loved it! It was really fun and funny. It had great banter and her inner (accidentally turned outer) monologue made me laugh. She has always been one of my favorite narrators so it was great to listen to a book she wrote herself.
I also did a reread of On The Island by Tracey Garvis Graves. I thought ‘it’s summer, I should probably reread it.’ But then I thought it could be winter and I’d still want to reread it.
I LOVED that one too, Ashley, though I have yet to re-read it. She’s one of my favorite authors ever with her surprising twists and reveals!!!
Also, I just added your recommendation up there… for Flirtasaurus. LOL WHAT A TITLE!!!
Happy Friday! I hope you continue enjoying Home Before Dark!! My van needs an oil change, desperately. You’ve reminded me to get on it. 😉
I’ve been reading some short stories from One More Step and I love that they’re quick. Some are making me want more, which is even better. Finding some new to me authors and really like their style.
I’m hoping to get my daughter sewing more this weekend. We’ve been slacking a little, with busy schedules. I bought her a new machine, but I really wanted a different one and put my name on a list for it, but they had no idea how long it would be. Here we are, 1 week later, and it’s in. 😏 Now I have to box everything up, make the trip, and get her used to something different, again. But hopefully it’ll work out great and we’ll be really happy with it. I want to build up her inventory within the next 2 weeks.
Last tball game tonight. I’m glad and so is my boy. 😂 He’s really bored with it and hopes for it to be cancelled every week. He gets more enjoyment out of bugs, wildlife and how things work. I think he’ll be a scientist one day, but his biggest goal currently is living with me forever and mowing the lawn. 🤣😂
And, I’m nearly finished with Queen of the South. 😢 I can’t give away spoilers, but I really like Guero, don’t feel enough passion with James and not sure he’s trustworthy, but I wish for more, and ‘aw shucks’ is what I’ve deemed the guy I don’t even remember the name of. Clearly, I don’t care for him. Lol. Pote and Teresa is where the real intimacy lies. Someone watch this show so we can watch season 5 together!
I’ll go to Queen of the South after I finish Sons of Anarchy….I couldn’t stop that one now if I tried…I’m hooked!
Yay!! Can’t wait to have someone to share it with. 😀
I need to get back to that show…
Also, it’s when I went for my oil change last month that they told me my tires were due. *sigh*
I’m not a fan of buying boring old tires!!!!! Super- expensive, and not cute. Though I do love my reliable car and she does deserve brand new “shoes” . 😉
So… now I feel better. LOL!!! 😂😂😂
You do!
I’d like to keep mine reliable too. Hubs usually takes care of that stuff, but we’ve been so busy….and keep forgetting. There never seems to be a good time.
Maryse, I have to tell you I’m listening to an early copy of His & Hers by Alice Feeney. Not only is the storyline awesomely fun….the narration is spot on! It is set in England with British accents…I’m truly loving it! I think it releases on July 28th and I highly recommend it….at least so far so good 🙂
OH YAYYYY!!! Okay remind me when it goes live, Michele, and I will include your comment about it. 😀
Will do – and by then I’ll have final thoughts too…
Maryse, Home Before Dark looks so good! I have it high on my list. Also, I’m totally pumped for Kate Stewart’s new duet! Our temps here are forecast to be 99 degrees before humidity factors in…so well over 100 degrees this weekend. I foresee at least one pool day spent reading in my near future…that is if I can keep my kindle from over-heating in the sun 🙂
Also, on a tv sidenote…I know a bunch have you have already watched it but I’m just coming to the party for “Sons of Anarchy”….holy crap! Loving the MC vibe and all the multiple storylines. It’s crazy good…and I mean “crazy”!!
Gahhhh I hope it rains at my place all weekend. Cools down, and I love the rain. If not, it will be approx. the same as your temps, Michele G.
EVERY DAY this week it’s been getting super dark and grey and thundery and I keep hoping it pours and it never does. My grass needs it badly, and my citrus trees would love a good drink too.
Rain is a necessary thing sometimes…I hope you get some!
I GOT SOME!!!! Not for a long time, but when it rained, it poured!!!! 😀
It’s so exciting when you see your recommendation!!!! Thank you! I’m giving the Free Fall series by Abigail Davies a try. So far so good – but I keep going back to Off Balance. I watched Gabriel’s Inferno on Passionflix today and I really liked it! I was a little disappointed in Hollywood Dirt – the chemistry was a little flat. At least I can listen to movies while I’m working from home. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
I love to watch the movies while I work, too!!! There’s comfort in it.
