WELCOME NOVEMBER!! I’m so glad you’re here!! 😀 Though Florida hasn’t gotten the memo that we are now WELL into Fall, cause as I write this, I’m wearing summer clothes, and I didn’t even put my cute Halloween decorations out!
And I’d like to start opening the windows for that crisp air, putting in my fall-smelling wallflower scents and turning my house into a Holiday extravaganza and then basking in that cozy feel while I read. But nope. It’s gonna be hot out again isn’t t? Oh! Wait!! It’s going to be in the low 70s today so I take back my rant!! *claps with glee*
Tasha J: Don’t you think, being November 1st now, the perfect mood latte would be like a creme brûlée or something a bit festive? Maybe something with a little nutmeg. A frozen hot chocoloate for you, Maryse. 😂
Maryse: Heck yes, Tasha!! Nice warm cozy flavors and scents are ALL I want right now. I think I’m going to burn a “Leaves” candle and see if that helps. 😉
Leslie M: Tasha, I’m ready for peppermint mocha. I love candy canes and anything with peppermint or gingerbread and of course pumpkin! I love the scents too.

Do you know of any other secret society books?
- Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios <— DARK & CRAZY RELATIONSHIP ALERT!! A SONG I LOVE REMINDS Tasha J of this one!
Tasha J: You know what book Lose You to Love Me immediately made me think of? I had the new song release on countdown, btw, I’m obsessed too. But, Bad Romance. That book still resonates with me so much. I want another that makes me feel too!
Amy: Oh, I remember Bad Romance. So. Many. FEELS.
Tasha J: Yes, I’m constantly going back trying to find something in the “people also liked” category, but it’s nothing. I need something.
Maryse: Ohhhh YESSSS!! I 4.5 starred that crazy one!!! Here’s my Book Review
- Rich Boys of Burberry Prep by C.M. Stunich <— REVERSE HAREM BULLY ROMANCE ALERT!! BACK ON THE LIST ’cause Tanishka LOVED IT!!
Tanishka: Hey Maryse, new follower here and I just finished reading this series, it’s called Rich Boys of Burberry Prep, and let me tell you it is soooo gooooddddd. I mean all that bullying along with the reverse harems just gets you hooked on like nothing else. You fall in love with eachhh individual character (my fav was Tristan or maybe Windyy ;). It’s a realllyyy good read and its in the series of four books.
- Castaways by Tara Brown <— DESERTED ISLAND ALERT!! Nancy enjoyed it!
I have been into reading “Lost on deserted island” books. This one is 10 celebrities are shipwrecked on a deserted island. BUT this is NOT Gilligan’s Island. Very far from it! They are ill equipped for survival. The men seem more able, but the woman from a very privileged lifestyle & except for Girl Scout experiences are lost. Also, they are not alone on this island!! You also know from the very beginning that one of the ten are evil, but don’t know who!
- FantasticLand: A Novel by Mike Bockoven <— SCARY BOOK ALERT! Reese loved it too!!
Reese: Thanks to Tasha for recommending Fantasticland. I absolutely loved it.
As far as a book for what to read after Fantasticland: Night Film: A Novel by Marissa Pessel. It’s really nothing alike as far as plot but it has a sorta similar style and scary vibe and I think you really would like it.
- Devastated (Anger Management Book 1) by R.L. Mathewson <— RECENT RELEASE THAT I LOVED & Ashley loved it too! 😀 P.S. Here’s my review.
Ashley: I also just finished Devastated by R.L. Mathewson and I loved it! I love her books and this one did not disappoint! …was done perfectly for me, it definitely had me laughing and smiling, but she also brought a little more to this one.
- Pennyroyal Green series by Julie Anne Long <— HISTORICAL ROMANCE ALERT!! Jan recommends these!
Jan: I’ve been reading some more books in a long historical romance series I started last year. Pennyroyal Green series by Julie Anne Long (who has also written some nice CRs btw). Like any series, some of the books are better than others.
But I just read two back-to-back and they were both crackers so I thought I’d share. It Happened One Midnight, and Between the Devil and Ian Eversea.
Both really lovely love stories, with interesting characters who aren’t the usual cliche. I think you could read either of them as standalones if you don’t want to tackle the whole lot (11 books plus a novella – eep!)
- I reread One Percent of You by Michelle Gross,
- The Deal (Off-Campus Book 1) by Elle Kennedy and
- Waking Olivia by Elizabeth O’Roark
- I also recently reread The Work Wife: A Romantic Comedy by CJ Martin and
- Unbreakable by Emma Scott
- The Darkest Fall by Ripley Proserpina <— LIVE!! SOUNDS INTENSE!! “…Rational Lucia believes in what she can see and touch, preferring to leave the curses and fortune telling to her old-world relatives. Meeting Delia, a desperate half-human, half-demon child, who needs someone to keep her safe challenges Lucia’s logic. Armaros spent his eternal life mired in guilt. Choosing to live according to his desires and whims, he forced his sister to fall from grace, damning them both. When she vanished, abandoning him and all they’d built together, he pursues. The last thing the Fallen expected to discover was the impossible existence of her child and the fragile human intent on her protection...”
- Falling For Him by Ali Parker <— LIVE!!!
- Exile (The Battle of Souls Saga Book 2) by Elle Brice <— LIVE!!!
- Nice Day For A White Wedding by Georgia Le Carre <— LIVE!!!

It’s caused her to be alone, intimately unavailable, and the only way she feels safe is attraction she feels from a distance. But then she receives her number neighbor’s unexpected text...”

- Shattered Bonds: Jane Yellowrock, Book 13 by Faith Hunter <— NAY HAS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!
Nay: Shattered Bonds released today–I’ve been saving my Audible credit so that I could listen to it.
If anyone is ever looking for a great UF series (one that you’ll start reading and be thrilled to find out there are now 13 books), Jane Yellowrock is it!
- Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue <— NAY ALSO LOVED THIS ONE!
Nay: I don’t think I ever posted that I listened to Room by Emma Donoghue and I loved it! I put it off for a long time because I didn’t know if I could handle listening to a kid narrate (actually the “kid” was a woman), but it was one of those books I love with an ensemble cast who each did their own part, and I thought it was phenomenal. It didn’t hurt that one of the narrators was Robert Petkoff, one of the best male narrators of ever.
The child’s voice (Jack) did narrate most of it, but the writing was so unique that I just couldn’t put it down. I looked for things to cook or clean so that I could keep listening.
On an horridly sad note, at first I thought Jack was narrated by a man, but when Robin asked me about the narration and I started thinking about it, I realized that there was no way a man could be making the voice sound the way it did. So upon looking again, I found out that the narrator for Jack was Michal Friedman, an actress/singer who tragically died a little over a year after the book was released after delivering twins via c-section. Thankfully, the twins were healthy, but what a horrible thing to have happened. She was an extremely talented narrator.
- Evvie Drake Starts Over: A Novel by Linda Holmes <— Michele G LOVED this one!
Michele G: I listened to a really well done audiobook recently that’s been out for a little bit… Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. It’s women’s fiction and easily scored another 5 stars from me.
There wasn’t anything fancy about it – no breathtaking twists or anything – just a heartfelt story about life and finding your way through the difficult times to eventually find happiness again. It was so good!

Don’t you think, being November 1st now, the perfect mood latte would be like a creme brûlée or something a bit festive? Maybe something with a little nutmeg. A frozen hot chocoloate for you, Maryse. 😂 It snowed here last night. Not cold enough to stick, but a sure sign I need a new pair or winter boots. I’ve had my favorite, only pair for like 8 years now. It’s time.
I don’t think I’ve read Jane Yellowrock yet, will have to try that 1. And a what to read after FantasticLand feedback!! Night Film is SO going on my list! ‘It’s Not PMS, It’s You’ *snort* LOL.
Still reading Darynda Jones’s A Bad Day for Sunshine. And I’ve made it past halfway! So far, so good. Still have a couple unfinished books I’d like to be done with as well, started months ago. *sigh* I’ve accomplish so much this 1 by ignoring housework and orchestrating a sit in, basically. We’re running outta clothes now, but they’re clean. 🤣🤣
LOL!!! I know it… when I’m really into a book, I get nothing else done and then kick myself or it later.
*sigh*
But when I go on cleaning sprees or “work sprees” I kick myself for not reading. Reading makes me happy, but so does cleaning. Ohhhh!! Audiobooks would fit perfectly here!
Heck yes, Tasha!! Nice warm cozy flavors and scents are ALL I want right now. I think I’m going to burn a “Leaves” candle and see if that helps. 😉
Tasha–you need to give Jane Yellowrock a try. But I’m so sad that Shattered Bonds is the last book. I had no idea! I also love Darynda Jones. Her Charley Davidson series is also one of my faves.. I look forward to hearing what you think about A Bad Day for Sunshine.
I never did finish all of Charley Davidson series. I have them and I stopped maybe halfway? On the 1 I was on, maybe the 6th (there’s a theme here). And nothing wrong with it. Just my typical jump all around self. I think about it all the time though. Women P.I.s are my favorite, I’ve not burnt out on them yet. I’m actually current watching the new Veronica Mars season on Hulu AND this new show on ABC called Stumptown. And this reminds me to check when the new Evie Hart was coming out again. I think soon.
OMG, it was released yesterday. EEEEP!!! 😁😁😁
I love Stumptown!!
I meant to say Tasha recommended Fantastic land. And thanks so much Tasha! Definitely a top read for me this year! I hope you like Night Film…
Ahhhh yes!!!! Fixed it. 😉
I knew what u meant. Though I was secretly hoping Tessa read it too, lol. I’m looking forward to Night Film!!
Good morning! *friday glitter*
Tasha, I’m ready for peppermint mocha. I love candy canes and anything with peppermint or gingerbread and of course pumpkin! I love the scents too. I need to go Yankee Candle and stock up so my house can smell festive.
ME TOO Leslie M. I’m just like you. ANYTHING peppermint and gingerbread. HAPPINESS!!
I love pumpkin flavors (pumpkin anything makes me happy), but for some reason, I can’t handle the scent in candles and plugins? It’s too… I dunno… synthetic and waxy to me? Kind of cloying…
My youngest son started working at Walmart a couple of weeks ago and he texted me the other day and asked if I wanted some peppermint mocha creamer, but I’m still finishing up my pumpkins spice, so I told him I’d wait another week or two–I just can’t let go of it yet! Probably not until after Thanksgiving.
Walmart is cool too! I just saw this comment, so as not to discriminate on the jobs 😜, employee/family discount and 1st dibs and know how on all the new gizmos and Christmas stuff coming out! Also, I’m sure the people watching is entertaining.
Oh for goodness sake. My favorite coffee shop has announced that tomorrow they will release their peppermint bark latte. It’s different than peppermint mocha cuz it’s white chocolate and I like that combo better. And I don’t have the time for this tomorrow and now I HAVE to go!!
Good morning! Happy Friday and happy November! We got a heavy frost last night and it’s freezing this morning!
Today’s date day, but I have no idea where we’re going yet. We went to the sports bar son #1 works at last Friday, and since he’s the bartender, we had some mighty good drinks! While we were there, hubs sprang on me that he wants us to go to the Keys for a week sometime right before Christmas (without the kids). I’d love to go, but I have a feeling it was his quite strong Long Island tea talking!😂
You have bartender and reptile expert kids. I’m telling you, I still see you as a rock chick. Or a heroine from a Kristen Ashley novel. Wooo to the Keys!!! You should’ve booked the tickets right then, no take backs. 😂 I think you need a leather jacket as well. Or 1 of those super cool painted jean jackets with something bad*** on it 😉.
Aww I love that! It’s sweet…even if it was nudged along by copious amounts of alcohol 🙂
OMG that sounds like so much fun!! I live in Florida and have yet to be to the Keys.
And it’s funny when a few drinks makes the future look grand. LOL!!! 😉
Tasha–thank you! Oh how I’d love to be a Rock Chick or any KA heroine!
The Keys thing hasn’t come up again because, well, I’m a tightwad and I’d rather wait until he gets his big promotion in 4 months so that we don’t have to put it all on a credit card. (And I know even considering the cc is a dumb idea, but when you’ve been through what we’ve been through with all my stuff and you have a few drinks and start waxing poetic about “living for the moment,” The Keys sound like an awesome idea, no matter what we have to do to get there).
Good morning. I’m happy because I found an old song I love last night. I love when this happens. A song you listened to all the time and love, but then it fades out of your regular rotation and then you find it again like an old friend.
Not korean this time an but a well known old English song. Probably my favorite male vocalist…..his voice just kills me sometimes.
https://youtu.be/v-1OgNqBkVE
I like it! I wonder if the Beatles ever made a Christmas album…..
Well John and Yoko did. And again his voice in this song.
https://youtu.be/FG3zqO0Zv5U
But does anything top Bob Dylan’s foray into Christmas.
https://youtu.be/a8qE6WQmNus
I’m thinking Tessa needs to be here for this conversation ASAP!!!
Uhm, I’ve NEVER heard this before, but it’s AWESOME!
I know I’ve heard this before. I’ve probably never once payed attention to who sang it, but I do love their voices.
What? *looks around* And I like This is Christmas, except Yoko Ono sings with the kids. It’s… grating? Yeah. Grating. But his voice. So real and emotive.
lol Love Must be Santa Claus. *sighs* It’s that time of year and I’m trying to resist!
Favorite Christmas song, though, is still O Holy Night. My favorite is the Mariah Carey version. The fact that she turned the song into a second octave added is just amazing. And fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEJmP8T07JU
Bev, this is weird as same thing just happened to me with Woman by John Lennon. I was on table at chiropractor and the song gave me chills. We have been listening to lots of Beatles lately at my house but I guess we forgot about John Lennons solo work!! Duh.
Good morning Maryse and everyone!! I know I have been MIA for a while. All is good, just kinda a rocky start to college for my daughter and for me adjusting to kidless. I’m also starting a second job- just some evenings and weekends. So life has been a little chaotic. I have managed to read a little, but someone catch me up on all I’ve missed and if there are some gotta reads!! Right now I’m charging my kindle for a trip to VA. for my nieces baby shower. Hope to get some reading done in the car; hubby is driving. 🙂
I’m hoping to finally power through “Perfect Strangers” this weekend. I’m dying to find out what all the awesome fuss is about.
So I get the hectic schedule issue for sure, as this October has been exactly that for me. Not in a bad way, but I had all sorts of stuff to do (way more than my usual)
How are you adjusting?
Better now since my daughter is happier at college, socially. Has been weird to not have to drive a kid around or to have to make dinner. So much more free time. I think hubby and I have been able to be more spontaneous in going out.
Have missed checking in here and getting my book recommendations! I’m going now to check out perfect strangers.
Maryse, Perfect Strangers by JT Geissinger?
Yep!!! That’s the one. I’m halfway through it and into it. Nothing crazy has happened yet, and it’s very steamy (lots and lots of that) but I hated putting it down to go to sleep last night.
So I’m totally into it! And still have no clue… though maybe a few guesses. 😉
I did end up skimming a lot of the sex. Because there was a lot… Actually that’s part of what almost made me DNF early on. So glad I didn’t!
Yes, I’m skimming those parts too, but the rest has me connected, interestingly enough. 🙂
Happy Friday!!! (I still have to work tomorrow…but still.) White chocolate mocha for me, it makes me feel all warm and cozy….like liquid happiness for your insides. I’ve had to train two people at work this week so I’ve been tired and my voice sounds a little funny from all of the talking I’ve been doing! I have been reading a little bit at night (Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid) but I don’t get very far before I’m ready to go to bed. This week I listened to a few audiobooks including Drowning Erin by Elizabeth O’Roark (super angsty but super good!) and 44 Chapters about 4 Men by BB Easton which made me laugh out loud a lot.
It snowed here a couple of times already and it’s just too soon for that nonsense. There are still leaves on the trees and so much raking to do; it never seems to end no matter how often you do it. I am happy that I get to break out the fall scents though! This is my favorite time of year for candles.
I thought that last word said candies for a minute and I got excited. 😂 I just was on Pintrest and the yummiest thing popped up. (Cuz it’s listening to me 😏) You know those pretzels with the melted chocolate hardened on and then an m&m on top? Well, these have a melted peppermint kiss. I think, I dk, the white ones with red stripes, and an m&m and little Christmas sprinkles. *dreamy sigh*. I am full on embracing early Christmas crap this year. I did it with Halloween too. Brainwashed, I feel. A joyful, crazy, early Christmas nut. Bring on the snow!!
I have leaves like crazy too. We need to mow em up. We haven’t raked a once this year.
Me and my son love those pretzel things!! We make them all the time. Some with kisses and some with rolos. We usually top them with seasonal colored peanut m&ms or pecans.
❤️❤️❤️
I love the pretzels that are covered in white chocolate and they have peppermint bark on them, I get so excited when they come out around Christmas time.
Uggghhhhh YUMMMMMMM. I miss Christmas treats. I’ll try and find a veto version. 😉
Thank you Ashley!!
Elizabeth O’Roark has a new one coming out soon… I’m going on to Parallel next. I can’t wait to try her ’cause t seems her books are right up our alley from the comments we keep getting.
I’ve been watching little videos for a little while of Sir Twitch A lot (from the Ellen Degeneres show) and his wife dancing through her pregnancy. They’re really good and she’s now 40 weeks preggo and I’m just in awe of her energy and precision. They do it weekly and it doesn’t take a whole lot of my time, so…just thought I’d share my little tidbit of entertainment. Lol Here’s an example, but I watch all the clips on Instagram or FB. Not All the clips, I’ve not watched 40. LOL https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q_fX7su8ToM
This is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. I want to be friends with them in real life….they look so fun.
I know!! Such a sweet energy.
Omg amazing dancing. Wish I could move like that!
Thanks Tasha! I’m now addicted!! I went down the rabbit hole and watched all their videos including the flash mob for the baby reveal!! Oh my goodness, they are so freaking cute together!!
I haven’t watched Ellen in a few years, except for clips. I just saw Twitch for the first time a few days ago because of Super M, lol.

Hi Maryse. I just finished The Italian by TL Swan and I have to tell you about it because it’s in my head and taking too much space. I believe you call it book funk! What do I read now? I know it will take at least 5 books of beginning and end before my funk will go away.
This book was awesome!!! A 5 stars!!! It had twist and turns I didn’t expect. Its about an Italian guy who didn’t know he is Mafioso and a traveling Australian who had a wonderful week together but tragedy happened. They separated ways but never really forgetting each other until they see each other again. The guy is hot! And when he makes up his mind he sticks to it. The girl is a good girl with a good head. I am not making a good job describing the story. But I am telling you it’s awesome! There was a Madam and for a second I thought he will make the wrong decision. Almost!!!
Hi Mary Ann!!
YAY!!! I’m so thrilled to know this. Nancy just messaged me too pretty much telling me how awesome it was. This author just keeps hitting it right out of the ball park. 😀
Veils by Brynne Asher is out and Noah is absolutely swoon worthy!
YAY!! Thank you for letting me know, Terri!! I’ll be adding it to the Friday Finds for sure! 😀
