<— SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE!! HOLY MOLY how did that happen? What Alice Forgot is the one we’ve decided to buddy-read (it was described as an “After I Do” feel) and it just went on sale!!! Who wants to read it with us?
Jennifer: This is an amazing book!!! I ugly cried! Hits you right in the feels. Rips your heart!!
Nadia: I want to buddy read!!
Maryse: Yay Nadia!!!
Sharon: Yes please!
Val: I love this book. It’s my favorite by hers.
Shanna: man I’ve wanted this. And it’s on sale
It’s the time again, where we find the latest book deals, and best book recommendations and compile it all into a Friday Finds list. YAY!!! I LOVE Fridays!!
I haven’t selected my weekend read yet, (I’m still determining my reading mood) but if you’re in the same boat as me, this list might help! 😉
BREAKING NEWS ALERT: Okay sure it’s not really breaking news anymore, but just in case you haven’t heard… many of us have been finding some nice credits in our Amazon (<— that’s where my credit was!), Barnes & Noble & iBook accounts due to an anti-trust settlement that has been refunded to us readers! So check your accounts by going into your “gift card” balances and take a look! This just might be your lucky day. It was mine, for sure, and many of our fellow readers too! 😀
Kirstyn: I received one from Amazon and from Apple. If you’ve bought iBooks check your iTunes account as well. $75 from Amazon and $230 from Apple. I’m set on books for awhile.
Ela: Holy BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM LOOKING AT Total Gift Cards: $276.54 …Where’s Amy? I’m very curious how much she got!
Maryse: I was wondering the same thing… Amy’s is gonna be crazy.
Amy: *GASP!!!!* Amazon credit?!?!?!?!?!? *goes to check Amazon gift card balance*
Fabi: Amy, did B&N just add a GC to your account?
Amy: I checked my account and it shows a credit of 90.14.
Time to do some shopping!
Amy: Fabi…I’m pretty sure they just credited my account, kind of like when you load a gift card. I just received the email earlier today with the total amount …. go to My Account—->Gift Cards—->Manage Gift Cards & Credits for Nook Content Also, if I remember correctly you can load GC directly onto your Nook so there is the option to check your balance right on the Nook as well. I have to fire mine up so I can check.
Susan: I didn’t realize how many books I buy and read until I saw my credit. Over $600.00. That will keep me reading for a while. Very excited.
Tessa: Hehehe If I had 600 like Susan, I’d buy their latest kindle. That looks so cool with the charging cover. Susan, congrats and have fun!
Lisakay: My Amazon credit was $6.00, I will take it, but compared to Susan $600…….wow just wow, how awesome for her.
Rebecca: Susan just made me feel so much better about my $321! Lol!! I seriously thought my husband accidentally one clicked gift cards and I was freaking out at first.
It’s taking all my self-control not to immediately one-click every single book I want. Heehee
Tessa: anyone who used Google or Sony Reader gets a check later in the mail. It makes sense because the first time I got about twelve dollars in the mail by postcard-check.
Look what we found! (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order. Sales listed are for Amazon U.S., however some of the Amazon UK links also reflect the sale!):
- 1985: Careless Whisper (Love in the 80s Book 6) by Misty Provencher <— JUST WENT LIVE! “James told me he would protect me forever and I entrusted him with all my deepest, darkest secrets. I was positive that I knew all of his too…until the end of summer, in 1985. What I found out ruined me. I could only imagine the gossip…” And then seven years later she gets a call…
1986 by Morgan Parker <— TUMMY TWISTER ALERT! And just for fun, I’m bringing THIS new release back on the list right under “1985” up there, tee hee! Amy is enjoying it!
Amy: Holy moly…1986 just took a crazy-a$$ turn. Seriously…my tummy is twisting up… ! I am SO glad I went in blind aside from the blurb.
- The Geek Gets The Girl by Michele Hauf <— JUST WENT LIVE!!
- My Unexpected Forever (The Beaumont Series Book 2) by Heidi McLaughlin <— SUPER-BARGAIN TODAY!
Teresa: I love, love, love this series. I’ve read all three of these books, and all of them were wonderful. I love the cover of My Unexpected Forever.
- Disclaimer: A Novel by Renée Knight <— PSYCH-THRILLER ALERT!! TashaJ found us this one!
Tasha: “I’m currently 22% into Disclaimer by Renee Knight and really loving it so far! It’s a psych thriller and I’m dying to know this secret she’s been keeping and I’m just getting to this really nail biting part! Yikes! 😀 So what’s everyone else reading??”
Jen C: Oooh and Disclaimer – read that just over a year ago and it was SO GOOD. Not what I was expecting at all – definitely a surprise great find.
- Strong Signal (Cyberlove) (Volume 1) by Megan Erickson & Santino Hassell <— M/M ROMANCE ALERT! FABI!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look what’s on super-sale and I just one-clicked it!!!! *happy wiggle*
Fabi: …if I were to recommend to you your first Santino Hassell book, I’d want to steer you towards his collab with Megan Erickson, Strong Signal. It was my favorite of the month when I read it. Santino’s characters are hard and gritty and so freakin’ real. Megan added a certain sweetness factor to Strong Signal that melted my heart.
Bad Boys After Dark: Mick by Melissa Foster <— MADE OUT WITH HER BOSS ALERT! Oh oh… masquerade parties cause trouble. The good kind! “Amanda thinks she’s hit the jackpot when she bags a tall, dark, and sinfully delicious masked man–until she discovers the man she’s made out with is her off-limits boss…”
- The Warlord’s Wife (A Sons of the North Romance Book 1) by Sandra Lake <— Bev just found this one for us!
“I just saw a positive r e view for a book called The War lord’s Wife. She said it felt like old school. Jerk hero a bit crazy sauce, lol. Now I don’t think he is as bad as they used to come, thank goodness, or as bad as you sometimes like, heh, but sounds fun. I one clicked. It’s a Viking romance.”
All Access (The Fangirl Series Book 1) by Liberty Kontranowski <— ROCK STAR FANTASY JUST WENT LIVE!!! She’s a 30-something single mom that is SO in love with a rock star, so she writes a romance book and HE is the muse… and he finds out!! “Kallie writes a smokin’ hot novel featuring a hero who looks and acts an awful lot like Niles — and a heroine who may or may not have a smattering of herself thrown in for fun. When Niles learns about the book and surprise-texts Kallie, the two deliciously complicated creatives become fast friends . . . and so much more…”
DG: So ALL ACCESS….total fangirl book…LOVING it. Haven’t read a rock star book in a long while but this one fits my mood….
Angela: Almost done with it, it’s good… twists that surprised me. It’s one of those fantasy’s that seems unreal but the author makes it work.
- The Hardest Fall (Roadmap to Your Heart Book 3) by Christina Lee <— M/M ROMANCE ALERT! JUST WENT LIVE!
- Everything: A Singed Wings Novel by Erin Noelle <— LIVE!!! STUDENT-TEACHER ROMANCE ALERT! He was on his way to rock-stardom but…”The life I’d always wanted was finally within my reach. All I had left to do was finish out my last semester of high school. But there was one problem: MS, Sloan, the new art history teacher…”
- A Beautiful Sin by Terri E. Laine & A.M. Hargrove <— Ooooooh FORBIDDEN LOVE CATHOLIC PRIEST ALERT! This one just went live today “She is my weakness, my salvation, my downfall and my freedom. Our sins are bound tighter than fate. My name is Canaan. I am an ordained Roman Catholic priest, forever and always. Her name is Haven. She may be my destiny, my destruction.”
- One Day Soon by A. Meredith Walters <— SUPER-BARGAIN PRICED!! Sounds angsty, and Nancy found it for us saying: “I just found a great bargain by one of my favorite authors: A. Meredith Walters, and her book ONE DAY SOON…. This is a stand-alone contemporary romance.” Yep… that blurb!!! “He was the past that I buried, but never forgot. Until the day I found him again, years after believing I had lost him forever. And in cold, resentful eyes, I saw the heart of the man who had been everything when I had nothing at all. So I vowed to hold onto the second chance that was stolen from the children we had been.“
Pia: One Day Soon by A. Meredith Walters is a must have. She never disappoints.
American Bad Boy: A Military Romance by Eddie Cleveland & Sadie Black <— NEW COCKY MILITARY HERO HEARTBREAKER ALERT! Here’s another that just went LIVE! “It’s been a decade since he left. But under his tattoos, I still see the guy who broke my heart when he chose his country instead of me. I told myself I was over it…”
- Marry Screw Kill by Liv Morris <— AUTHOR SAYS YOU NEED TO SIT DOWN TO READ THIS ONE! Tee hee! “There are two men in my life. I’m marrying one, want to screw the brains out of another, and by the time this story is over you may want to kill someone. The choices are still pending…” and it’s super bargain-priced today!
- Screwed by Kendall Ryan <— SHE’S HIS NEW NEIGHBOR & she knows about his reputation. Super-bargain priced today!
- Signal Bend Series by Susan Fanetti <— LOOKING FOR A GRITTY BIKER ROMANCE SERIES?
Lisa: …if you’re looking for a great MC series get into Susan Fanetti’s Signal Bend series. It rivals Lauren Gilleys series and I am just totally hooked….There is a central couple in each book….told from their POVs but there is an ongoing story of the Horde MC that continues through the series. Best read in order for that reason or you’ll miss the gist of their ongoing feuds and battles.
Ela: LOVED Susan Fanetti’s Signal Bend series BUT it is very violent and graphic so listen to the warnings Susan posts at the end of the blurb!
Pathfinder’s Way: A Novel of the Broken Lands by T.A. White <— WHAT TO READ AFTER GOLDEN DYNASTY ALERT!!! Danylle recommends it!
“…I finally found a book that I couldn’t stay silent about. I love novels like Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan and The Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley and I’ve finally found one that has the same pizazz. All it took was one read through of the summary and I was sold. I one clicked. I just wanted to bring this jewel to your attention. I hope you enjoy it. The book is Pathfinder’s Way by T.A. White.”
- Can’t Get Enough (River Bend, #2) by Molly McLain <— HER NEW NEIGHBOR IS A SURPRISE SINGLE FATHER ALERT! He just got custody of a daughter he never knew he had and…”…she likes the quiet little town more than she expects, and she can’t resist overextending herself to help her built-like-a-bad-boy neighbor get his life back on track…” It’s super-bargain priced!
To See You by Rachel Blaufeld <— REALISTIC & REFRESHING HERO ALERT! Marion is loving this one!!!
“I’m not even 50% in yet but I’d like to recommend a great read ” To See You” by Rachel Blaufeld. What’s refreshing is that the hero in the outset is portrayed in a realistic light, he’s your “every day” guy with all the quirks & insecurities about his appearance like any normal person. Loving it!!!!”
- The Infamous Ellen James (Infamous Series Book 1) by N.A. Alcorn <— LAUGH-OUT-LOUD INAPPROPRIATE HUMOR ALERT! This was a reader question from yesterday and it sounded hilarious but it’s when Kristin said: “Can it be the one where she goes camping and has to use his socks to dry herself after getting diarrhea?” that I was exceptionally excited to read this for my next funny read. And Melissa says: “Avoiding Amy Jackson (Infamous Series Book 2) is the second one and just as hilarious!”
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo <— FANTASY THRILLER ALERT! One of my new fav authors, Suanne Laqueur just discovered this one and she is LOVING it! Suanne says:
“Have you read Six of Crows? Has anyone read this? Am I insanely late to the party? I don’t care if I’m late because this book is BLOWING MY MIND!!!”
and then…
“Update: finished. I’m a wreck. A WRECK. Read this f**king book!”

LOL!!!!!!
*hands Grey a glass of champagne*
Perfect!!!
*hands Grey another*
Amy, look at this lipstick.
https://smexybooks.com/2016/06/smexys-top-ten-june-24th.html
*sniffle*
I must be hormonal because I just watched the last half hour of Juno on HBO and now I’m a sniffling, snotty, weepy mess.
*wipes nose on Manny*
“Someday you’ll be back here, honey. On your terms.” WAAAAHHHHH! I love JK Simmons as her dad in that movie!
*sniffle-snort-sob* <—– that's attractive right there
NO emotional reads for me right now, thank you very much!
Oh no, now Wind Chill is on and the ending with that friggin' heartbreaking music always makes me want to cry. GAH!! I'm turning the damn TV off!!! I don't need background noise THAT badly. WTF is wrong with me today??
*takes Grey's glass of champagne and downs it*
Bev!! I love that lipstick! MARYSE…you have to check it out!!! It is so…so…us ladies here! 😀
And I think the blue drinks of #2 on that list are the perfect cure for my stupid mood swings today. 😉 #3…blech, NO. *shudder* I am SO going to find out where to get that blue wine. For now…we’re having key lime pie martinis tonight, ladies!
I love Juno….such a snarky b**ch. Didn’t the actress that played Juno come out recently? Huh….worth a Google.
Yep, she is. With a pretty surfer girlfriend too. Good for her…
Exactly Lauren…she is a snarky but lovable little snot, and THAT is what makes it so sob-worthy at the end. Seeing her tears after she has tried so hard to be tough…GAH! But it is such a good movie. 😉
I kind of want to read 1986 just because it was the year I was born lol. Can’t wait to hear your overall taken on the book Amy!
Oooh and Disclaimer – read that just over a year ago and it was SO GOOD. Not what I was expecting at all – definitely a surprise great find.
Jen…I gave a mini-review of it here near the bottom of the comments…
https://www.maryse.net/news/paranormal-book-releases/latest-paranormal-contemporary-romance-book-releases-june-21st-2016.html
So, born in 1986, shuh? This book mentions the Challenger disaster (holy moly, I remember SO well when that happened), and obviously the whole story leads up to the Chernobyl disaster. Make sure you keep me updated if you read it! 😀
bev screw the lipstick… I want the Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale!!!!!!
LOL!!!!!
Lol.
I want the ice cream.
Ewwwww Maryse! I don’t think even *I* could drink that stuff! Unless…maybe it’s similar to cream soda? I could totally drink it then…
Bev, Klondike bars with cookie dough swirls…I just picked those up the other day and YUM!
Yes. You know it’s totally cream soda!!!!!
with… er… um….. cookie dough inside of it. LOL!!!!!
Amy…right there with you on remembering the Challenger disaster….geez, when (my) life was not complicated…
Not sure if you have it out there but Midnight Soul by Kristin Ashley is on Pre-Order for August 15,2016! This is book 5 in the Fantasyland Series. Definitely different but hey, it’s still KA!
And some strawberry shortcake with lots of whipped cream and chocolate drizzled over the top sounds….amazing right now….just saying….Maryse and Amy are making my sweet tooth scream…at me!!!! And my house is chocolate DRY right now!!!
Yes ma’am!!! I have it in the main Book Releases page. That’ll be my birthday!!!! 😀
DG what about if you made something with chocolate chips. DO you have those? I find they do in a pinch!
And whip cream dry…strawberry dry…heck, I have NOTHING apparently!
Six of Crows is still echoing in my head. Smart. Exciting. Suspenseful. A hint of swoon. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. You thought you had it figured out and then—WRONG! It gave me a total panic attack. Loved it.
No chocolate chips either…I am in a sad, sad state. I might start dehydrating…from lack of SUGAR!
Passes champagne to Amy, cuz I’m a good friend like that. Plus I can’t really drink with my cough medicine… Can we say loooopy! Ugh I hate being sick! Seriously who gets pneumonia in June?!? *whine* on a positive note, I have drs orders to lay around and do nothing all weekend, so… That’s what I’m gonna do. First order of business, picking a 5 star…
Me too DG. Me too.
Ahhh Grey, I hope you feel better soon! Nothing worse than being sick during the summer…not sure if it is hot were you are.
Think I am jumping into ….wait for it….American BAD BOY…ha…it’s one of those titles but the blurb and cover caught my attention…
Bev…did I mention that I used my LAST K-cup of hazelnut coffee this morning…..yeah, multiple ways dehydrated…
I’m having empathy pains for DG right now…
Grey! That’s awful! Hope it clears up for you soon…pneumonia is horrid. 🙁
I’m looking for a 5-star read as well right now. Actually, I’d settle for an entertaining-as-he!! read. I know there have been some really good recs and potentially great reads on the lists lately, but I can’t for the life of m nail one down right now.
Sooooo, anyone have one they want to BR this weekend? Either that or I need a number between 1 and 947 for one from my 2013 list. Help? Pleeeeaaaase??
74
somebody pass DG a Godiva chocolate martini!!!
She’s dehydrating!!!!!
Wanna buddy-read that one from last week Amy? What was it again?
23? Have you read Gorgeous by Paul Rudnick? Kind of fantasy-ish…
it was What Alice Forgot, right? I was gonna BR too…but Suanne’s book… nope. Can’t stop reading.
Oh! Coast. I have to say, Kick, Push paired with Coast makes a super emotional journey. It was one big roller coaster. I was sad; I was angry. I was happy and them swoon. It was intense. Loved it!
I also read Entranced by Jessica Sorensen. It was good, but almost a filler to get to where she’s going. And now, I’m finally reading Bitter Bite by Jennifer Estep. No opinion yet. 😛
Quick! Code chocolate…DG! Code chocolate…DG!
*opens DG’s mouth and readies Godiva chocolate martini to pour into it*
CLEAR!
No, Maryse…this is an emergency. You’ll get yours in a minute. 😛
Wow. Your massive list of upcoming book releases till 2017 is exciting and a bit overwhelming! So many goodies……… so much to take in…….. 😀
Okay, #74 is Days Like This…part of the Jackson Falls series but I’m not in the mood for a series. #23 is True Love Story and nope octopus ’cause I heard that one has the H doing something that I will hate him and not forgive him for. *sigh* I clicked it way back before I found that out. 😕
Yes! It was What Alice Forgot…are we going to BR it? I’ll start it tonight if so. I have my key lime pie martinis ready. Seriously, I really DID make some this evening. 😀
And thank you, Tessa and DG! Even if I don’t go with the numbers y’all give me, at least it jogs my memory about some or helps me eliminate others. *hugs*
*snort*
Darn! And I was gonna swipe it, but I held back last minute remembering that I MYSELF called that emergency STAT!
😀
I’m in if you’re in Amy! I have it.
Rep. Amy put True Love Story in a nope collection instead. You can’t keep that there.
Out of curiousty, what was 41? I typoed that at first.
So that IS true about True Love Story? What the H does that will make me hate him?
And #41 is…The Truths About Dating and Mating. *scratches head* I bought that one? Huh. Can’t believe I did with the cover it has but okay. *snort*
LOL!!!!!!
Sometimes Facebook shows me stuff from a page that I have no recollection liking and it doesn’t even fit in the books and authors category. Or anything I like.
And then I click, and sure enough, it says I “liked” it.
What? Why? LOL!!!
LOL!! Right?!?
I see some of the books I’ve bought and just shake my head. At myself. Because…why did I click those?? 😛
*hugs Amy and Maryse for their quick thinking with the Chocolate Martini* What would I do without Amy the martini whisperer and Maryse the book whisperer?!?!?
I was curious so I had to look.
#23 for me is The Chief by Monica McCarty.
41 is Rise by Karina Bliss
#74 is Dirty by Kylie Scott
Amy but the blurb sounds exactly the type of NA I was reading then. I still like that type, lol. Read it for us.
Oooh, that does sound like a MYSTERY Maryse.
Like… maybe a mystery for… ?
Only Sherlock knows.
*snorrrrrrrrt!*
Hahaha
Marise this book sounds exciting, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, I want to read, I don’t know why it’s not allowed in my country, Cayman islands… oh please Mrs Copyright let me read this book. *sniff*
You know, Bev…I just went and read the blurb for that book (Truths about Dating and Mating) and DAMMIT! It has stuff from my blurb rant! It gives too many details about what will happen, and then…QUESTIONS at the end of the blurb!
And then there’s that cover.
*covers face and shakes head*
Sorry. I just can’t.
Alright, starting Alice now.
Omg Amy. What the heck were you drinking when you bought that? Forget the blurb…that cover! It reminds me of the Cheerleader series I read in HS! And the title! Was it Jager? Be honest. I won’t judge. I’m here to help.
You guys!!!
What Alice Forgot is on sale today!! What a coincidence that it’s the one we’ve decided to buddy-read. :D!!! I added it to the top of the post.
I loved her book Big Little Lies (OMG so fun with a slightly dark comedic edge to it!), so I should have known What Alice Forgot would be just as good…and it IS!
We know from the blurb she has three kids and is getting divorced, but to be finding everything out along with her when all she remembers is being happy in her marriage is just…well, it hurts! I want to know what the heck is going on, and yet I’m a little apprehensive about knowing what has happened. I’m actually getting a little teary-eyed along with her!
I’m with in her in the ambulance…. in the beginning when she’s realizing something is not right with her memory…
Thanks Maryse! I was contemplating the paperback because of the Kindle price!
So glad you’re liking it Amy! I can’t wait to start it, but for now I’ll just be over here crying in my bubble bath with Daisy and Erik…
R…ummmm, I have no defense for that lapse in judgement. Maybe it was free? I hope it was free ’cause THAT is just embarrassing. And now my shame is immortalized here forever.
Well, strip me naked and ring a bell at me while I walk through the streets because apparently I do still have some modicum of shame. *snort* That’s going to sound REALLY weird if you don’t watch GoT.
Oh Maryse, just wait until things start getting explained to her. 🙁 I’m teary and yet I have to do a bunch of stuff this morning and I. Don’t. Wanna! *sigh* Can’t I just sit here and READ all morning?
I think when you read a billion books a year Amy, you’re allowed one slip up. Hold your head high little book worm.
LOL!!!
Hey, if I hold my head high enough will you pour a mimosa in my mouth? 😛
Lol. I don’t see it. I really dont, besides the cover, what is so off about this book.
Yet, they way you all feel about this one is how I feel about the death blurbs or will make you ugly cry blurbs, beyond that I don’t usually want to read them. But it just hits me the wrong way somehow. Maybe because instead of it being the bad boy, mc, mma,& ect. It is the disease or the death that is being used as the hook?
Idk, but those blurbs set me off, lol.
*raises hand* I second Bev’s motion.
Amy you want a regular mimosa or one like mine without the pesky oj?
*taps lip and ponders R’s question*
Yeah, that pesky oj just gets in the way…just put a few drops of it in mine so it will still “technically” be a mimosa. 😛
Bev…the blurb is too detailed for me. It pretty much lays out a sequence of events, so I already know what’s coming up which takes the fun out of experiencing it. And then there’s the dreaded question at the end of the blurb…will she? won’t she? Those questions are like nails on a chalkboard for me. 😕
Bev – I decided to go ahead and read Carry On, since it’s on loan and nothing else was doing it. I adore Simon, the lead character. So “British” and snarky and sarcastic. If you can keep from trying to compare everything to Harry Potter I think you’d enjoy it.
Isn’t just karma that I have $110 on account, can’t find a single book that grabs me and I am reading my library loaner? LOL.
So ALL ACCESS….total fangirl book…LOVING it. Haven’t read a rock star book in a long while but this one fits my mood….
Oh DG this makes me happy to hear!!!!!!
MichelleS, yay! I adored that book.
Fabi, I think you mentioned recently not being blown away by any books. I was looking at what I read this month, finished not currently reading, and so far for me too. It has been a really good month in that I have read a lot and they are all good solid reads. I’ve enjoyed them. Though none I’d put on my year end best, lol.
*pours faux-mosa in Amy’s mouth* 🙂
Have fun reading today! I’m off to somebody else’s family reunion. Sober. Gah. I don’t even do my own family reunions. So jealous of the Saturday readers!
Fauxmosa… Bwahaha. I’ll drink the OJ… See waste not want not. We are environmentalists around here. Just doing our part for the world.
So, I have heard about K dramas for awhile. I know they are very popular. Finally decided to try one. I’ve been marathon watching yesterday & today. Totally using up my phone’s high speed. It’s addictive & slightly strange, lol. And the hero…… Odd he is odd. The h even asks her mom if she thinks he is weird. And his laugh is crazy. In this link is a clip that is just his laugh. You have to listen to it.
Forgot link. I need to go get some fresh air clear my mind. ☺
https://despairintheafternoon.wordpress.com/2015/03/31/soap-report-fated-to-love-you/#more-19101
Oh my…oh wow…every time I pick WAF up, I have a lump in my throat and feel on the verge of tears. I LOVE that I’m experiencing this *with* her and not just reading *about* her. And I don’t think I’m even to the toughest part…she hasn’t yet seen her husband. Although, she spoke briefly to him on the phone and…yeah. 😕
Then again, maybe it’s just me being hormonally emotional? After all, I was crying over Juno yesterday. And that stupid suspense movie that’s not supposed to make you cry…
Bev, I’ve heard K dramas are addictive like that! When we were in Japan, I used to watch some of the Japanese channels and just crack up…something about watching their body language and facial expressions with NO idea what they were talking about was hilarious. So yeah, I get it. 😉
So do you think it has the After I Do feel?
Maryse…about 35% into ALL ACCESS and still intrigued…not your typical Rock Star…nice SLOW BURN…LOVING IT!!!!!
I see on Nalini Singh’s website that Rock Wedding comes out next month. Next book in her Rock Kiss series. All related books but standalones. I’ve enjoyed the series, altho’ some books were better than others. But overall an enjoyable rock star series – much better than some I’ve tried. Ms Singh can write. I haven’t read All Access – will check it out. Love a hot rock star 😀
R…at this point, it’s a little tough for me to say if it has an AID feel to it. I mean, both take place after the breakdown of the marriage and both are full of heartache, but in AID it’s more angst and emotion from not knowing if it will work out, whereas with WAF we don’t know if it will work out as well as not knowing *why*…so I’m struggling with the heartache right along with her. And I love it.
I’m only about 50% in though so I could still change my opinion. 😉
Thanks! I can’t wait to read it!!
OMG…
THIS:
“Nick, you will never believe how this man spoke to me. You will want to punch him in the nose when you hear. Except it’s so strange, because it was you, Nick, you were the man.”
That breaks my heart.
OMG, right?!?
That was the part (the phone call) which started the teary eyes and lump in my throat.
And where I am at, she still has yet to see him. I can only imagine how much THAT is going to hurt…
*cracks open the pinot grigio and starts pouring two glasses*
Thank you Amy..
*takes both glasses of wine*
*giggle*
😛
Okay back to my sadness.
Hahaha I think you both need something stronger. *Makes them June Bug https://www.goodcocktails.com/recipes/mixed_drink.php?drinkID=110 *
There ya go!
Okay, I just saw Fabi on Blooklending. (needless to say, I lent her the book.) I’ve never seen anyone there I actually talk to before!
Holy…
*shoves bottle of wine into Maryse’s arms*
*grabs both glasses of June Bugs and starts gulping them*
Um, Tessa? Can you make some more? Maryse didn’t get any of the first batch. 😛
*makes some more and leaves a pitcher on the table*
*leaves two glasses to be filled*
There you are!
Alright, I know I’m horrible sticking to my tbr lists. But my tbr is out of control, like always. I want to stick to what I’m reading for the weekend but then I want to shake it up starting Monday. I’m going to make a random 4 book, seems doable.
Ladies, 4 #s between 1 & 225.
#7
117
Feeling belly dips….getting angsty…..deep breathes….
So far really good.
#7 start on Monday is The Cold-Hearted Rake by Kleypas, whom I adore.
After that will be 117 Poison Princess by Cole which Michelle loved.
Nice. There ya go.
“She was experiencing all those familiar symptoms of a relationship breakup. The nausea. The sensation of something huge and hard lodged in the center of her chest. That trembly, teary feeling. She wasn’t supposed to ever have to feel this way again.”
GAH!!! *sob*
Bev…*sniffle*…#74.
OMG. I LOVED Poison Princess. As well as a Kleypas? You’re doing good so far. (Shakespeare’s ghost struck again. So turned into ado.)
*hands Amy a box of Kleenex*
What are all these #numbers?
Do I need to backtrack? I think I need to backtrack.
And thank you Tessa for the two glasses… but what about Amy?
*snort* 😛
She grabbed the first two. Now you both have a glass for each hand. And Bev needs numbers to pick books. Look, I somehow picked one of my favorite YA PNR series! Weird coincidence, huh?
*takes Kleenex and snuffles into it*
Thanks, Tessa. June Bugs and Kleenex…you’re the bestest. 😉
Okay, random musing while I give my heart a break for a bit. Worst line I’ve read in the middle of a sex scene. The h was describing what he was doing to her, and after she describes it, she narrates “It was hot!” THAT was cringe-worthy. 😕
*snuffles on Maryse’s shoulder*
Now, what were you saying about two glasses?
Upi grabbed the first two glasses. Maryse grabbed the second two. Now, there is a pitcher of June Bug to pour into the glasses.
222
*R snatches pitcher because nobody warned her about certain characters that rhyme with bavid* (points at Maryse) The Man I Love
*burps* thanks! I kind of fell like I needed that more than you guys…
222 is my favorite number, other than 8.
Grey. THAT is the number. Weirds me out a bit that you chose it.
*snuggles Amy*
*gives Amy her half-drank glasses*
Sip? Gulp?
#74 Dirty by Kylie Scott. I think it had mixed reviews here but I enjoy her writing and I’ve seen that some are looking forward to the rest, so assuming good secondary characters. Always a plus.
Er… drank? Is that right? *snort* 😛
R. Renee! Stupid Bavid!!!!!!
See? Right?!!!
I feel like an idiot because on GR a while ago I put for my update status “Awwwww Bavid!! I hope he stays good.” *shakes head, rolls eyes, breaks stuff*
#222 is The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley. The two I’ve read by her were great.
This is a nice little tbr. Thanks.
Tessa, if you both loved PP I’m super excited about it.
Gulp. Definitely gulp.
And the number thing…when we’re stuck on what to read, we ask each other for a number within the range on our list or collection.
Bev is being a rebel and asking for four numbers. *snort*
I think R may have to work on her code talk, lol.
I’m the only one who hasn’t read it, though right? If not…I’m sorry. I need to figure out the venting forum. But I barely get the blog thing and I just sort of figured out FB 2 days ago. I suck at this stuff!
R…what book?
The Man I Love :'(
Just teasing. We vent and talk books right here mostly. And it gets confusing and funny when trying to code.
Plus I LIKE a spoiler. We can totally chat.
haha It wasn’t really a spoiler. I just hate giving ANYTHING away. This book sucks the weirdest feels out of you. I’m twisted in so many different directions I don’t know which way is up. Crazy. Dear God, please let there be a satisfying HEA. PLEASE.
R….at least you didn’t “review” a book AND fuss about it being a cliffy AND how it was too back and forth AND then have the author comment back to you!!!
Sometimes I just have an urge to like totally unpack Sherlock or Jellicoe Road.
*sigh*
Oh I know!! I think I remember that. What book was it?
My husband’s starting Sherlock in my stead 🙂
Oooh.
He will love it.
Then badger you to watch.
Maybe.
Probably.
*shrug *
I don’t know him.
He knows better. I haven’t watched anything on TV except Jeopardy and The Walking Dead in almost 2 years. It takes from my reading time!
Have you met Fabi, lol.
It is so well written. Gives me my story fix.
Another was Justified. Loved that show, great season long stories. Stayed consistently good the whole time.
When I go through a slump is when I catch up on or discover new shows. They help give me that story fix when I can’t read.
ALL ACCESS….can I just say that I loved it!?!? Not your typical Rock Star meets small town first book author…to me NIles was just….ADORABLE…yeah I know not what you expect me to say…but he was just sooo adorable…in the way he interacted with her. Definitely a slow burn with a side of angst.
Tessa, thank you for the loan! I needed to reread it before picking up the third one. Perfect timing too. I finished my “weekend” read in a single day so I was scratching my head about what to do next.
I’m going to blow out a short little novella then reread Ignite.
THEN I’m starting Born of Legend next week which I hope will last all week.
Like Bev, I love it when I have the next few lined up.
Yeah, Bev if it weren’t for football season, I’d be OK with canceling cable. My husband just watches streaming anyway. I used to be obsessed. I was a Buffy nut. I’m actually sitting in the “Buffy” room in my house right now that I converted into my office. Ahhh…the good old days.
Buffy. Gah, I loved that show. It might even be my favorite show of all time. My heart broke so many times watching it. I started watching it from day one and watched faithfully until the last episode. *sighs* I need another Buffy type show. GoT is intense, but the humor in Buffy just elevated that show to greatness.
Omg DG…did that happen on GR? I know it’s awful, but I’m cringe-laughing for you right now. Note I didn’t say “at” you. 😉
R…I read that one. And I remember Maryse losing it while she was reading it. Which is what made ME want to read it. *snicker*
And you are welcome Fabi! 😀 I usually pick whoever is on top, but I saw your icon and name and was all, Nope. Her first.
R – it was From This Day Forward. The sequel is suppose to come out in July I think…
ER…I watched every episode of every season. Every Thursday night. And this was before streaming and DVR so if I was going to miss it, I had to set the VCR to record.
Holy crap, I feel old. LOL!!!
DG…tell me it wasn’t a case of the author behaving badly?
Tessa! OMG we used to go to the cons and party with the “d” actors LOL. After a few, we stopped actually attending them and just went to the parties. I had to have a shelf built all the way around the room at the ceiling to house all my “stuff.” We had so much fun! Every now and then, some of my “Buffy” friends come here and we watch the musical and Tabula Rasa on the blow up outdoor screen and sing to the neighbors, then cry cause…Tara and Willow…
Yes Amy it was on GR…kind of felt bad that I ranked it a 3 star read…I really didn’t say anything ugly per say…just not glowing….was kinda frustrated because as I have said before …I DO NOT read cliffies until it is all finished!
Oh yeah!! that’s what started the convo on here. I think Fabi was in on it too about how it’s BS to be made to feel like you cant review something the way you should. Totally remember that. I was all fired up LOL.
Amy…not badly. Just maybe a little defensive about the cliffy part…she assured me that she doesn’t like CH’s either therefore she made a point to list it was a CH. BUT in my defense I almost always read the blurb to see if it mentioned it is a standalone, cliffy, etc. AND I did with this one also….I just didn’t read the about the author section where the CH was mentioned or GR. Lesson learned…check everywhere!
I remember your review and the author comment DG. It wasn’t bad. Neither your review nor the comment. That was one of Grey’s freebies right?
Fabi – I think it was on one of Marsye’s release list. Thankfully it was a KU freebie.
I find it a bit odd that authors comment on gr reviews, the bad ones especially.
I know I’m always posting links but this “bad” review mad me laugh and in the comments some said it sounded right up their alley and then wanted to read it.
https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/reviews/what-happens-in-scotland-by-jennifer-mcquiston/
Yes!!! “Also her corset is hanging from the curtain rod and they’ve totally Charlie Sheened the place.”
OMG! I am laughing my tail off! Bev, that is hilarious.
Ex-hookers make great maids. Elsie gets shit done.
I like that the first 4 or so comments are how they want to read it.
It sounds pretty good to me too, and she has others on the same site with higher grades.
I do feel bad when I rant about a book on here sometimes, though.
222 is your fave number Maryse that is creepy?!? I’m having headphone issues… I’m trying to get my Bluetooth headphones to work and I can’t, and I’m still sick and whining and blah…
Oh yeah, no authors behaving badly. We are the only ones allowed to behave badly…preferably after copious amount of *insert favorite beverage* are consumed LOL!
Hah. Loved the review, Bev. I get so sick of super-gushy (obviously fake) reviews. That one was refreshing, and funny. Don’t think I’ll rush out to read the book, though.
I’m doing the netflix ‘n’ chill thang today as no-one else is home for the WHOLE DAY. I don’t expect anyone home before midnight. (They’re ‘bumping in’ the set for a play by our local amateur theatre group). So. I’m making pumpkin soup and home-made rye bread (in my bread maker LOL). And I can watch WHATEVER I LIKE today! Yaay! (I live in a male-dominated house and boy am I sick of blokey action flicks). And it’s the middle of winter here. 1.30 in the arvo and it’s a mere 7 degrees (celsius) outside. I’m in front of a snuggly fire, and I’ve chosen….. drumroll…. North and South.
*gives happy sigh*
*giggles over Jan130’s comment of Netflix and chilling*
😛
I LOVE North and South!! I just bought the hardcover because I’ve never read it, but I’ve seen it a million times.
Never read it, but the show is sweet as 😀
I’ve been a Patrick Swayze fan for as long as I can remember and I’m pretty sure it started there. My mom and I would watch that and the Thorn Birds every time they came on TV.
Gah…..love that show. I can watch it over and over. RA in it, just *sigh*
Oh, wait. I’m thinking of the Gaskell adaptation.
Just wonderful. And how it looks like snow in the factory but so deadly. And Brendan Coyle.
Patrick Swayze? Um, I meant the Gaskell adaptation. Sorry. Didn’t realise there was another one LOL. Civil war. I see. OK. (north and south – yeah, I get it). I’ll have to check that out another time. Could be good. But for today, it’s the grim factories of northern England (William Blake’s dark satanic mills if you know the poem). And Richard Armitage as John Thornton. Oh yeahhhhhhh……….
haha duh. what was I thinking??
Just google Richard Armitage as John Thornton. He does that dark, brooding melancholy so well……..
Oh yes…that looks promising 😉
That Swayze is awesome! Been a long while since I’ve watched that version. But remember being hooked.
ROFL That review is awesome. This though: ‘I had a mental picture of a fairer Kate Upton being all like “OMG I’m so ugly,” and in my mental picture I mentally punched her in her face.’ hahaha
R I never went to places or parties for Buffy. lol I’m so quiet irl, I’d be totally uncomfortable trying. So good for you. Honestly I’m a little envious, but it sounds like it was a lot of fun. 🙂
Just finished Say You’ll Stay and loved it!!! Zach was swoon worthy! The first few chapters were rough and I cried but then it was full of hope and love. I think this book is going to my faves list.
Starting Ugly Love next. I read it when it first came out so a re-read is in order 🙂
How can I sum up the end of What Alice Forgot…
Whiplash.
I feel like my head is spinning. Maybe the wine isn’t helping.
Yep, wine was a bad idea with how this book finished up. I just went through a whirlwind of emotions in the last few chapters, from giddy to anxious to “WHAT?!?” to glorious relief.
One more glass of wine then I’m callin’ it a night.
Oh hey guys, one more thing…Everything I Never Told You by Celest Ng is 3.99 down from 11.99.
Mine showing 11.99. That book had a ton of buzz. But I need to start checking my library again.
Oh man…now I feel bad. 😕
The email with the price drop was sent to me at about 6:30 yesterday evening, but I didn’t see it until late last night (when I posted that here) and the price was still 3.99. What the heck, did it only drop for a few hours??
Probably, it happens. But I told myself no new books until I read those 4 in my new tbr. Also, for books like that, traditional publishing & popular, to check library first. I’m not going to have any memory left on my Kindle if I keep this up. My buying to reading ratio is way off.
Bev – I seriously want to read that book now. I thought that review was hilarious!
“Every time her bare feet were mentioned I was like GODAMMIT GEORGETTE WHERE ARE YOUR SHOES?! Ask Elsie for shoes. Elsie will steal a bitch some shoes.” SNORT! Please please read this book & report back!! That review made me want to read it, not avoid it.
It does sound fun. I’d like to read one of her books sometime, others on that site have higher grades.
Also, they had her on their podcast because she works for the Center Of Disease Control. Had been in Sierra Leone to stop the ebola virus.
“Steal a bitches some shoes” is a great line, lol.
Hope your slump is getting better.
I went back to my spreadsheet for our group’s favorite reads of 2015 to pick my next book. So, thank you in advance to Maryse, Amy, Michelle, Theresa, Kelly & Cheryl for picking Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre for me!
I love spreadsheets! 😀
And you can’t go wrong with Alessandra Torre. The Dumont Diaries series wasn’t my favorite, but everything else by her that I’ve read has been great.
Oh, sorry Amy, you picked Tight…not Hollywood Dirt, that one is next I think. I have both of them, I did the eenie meanie miney moe trick to decide which one to read. I know, very scientific way of picking my next book LOL!
I was looking at the year best of not long a go. It was fun to re-read a few of them. But can’t believe how many I meant to read, like HD, and still haven’t.
I was just about to say. I liked Hollywood Dirt a lot, but I loved Tight!
I’m waiting for my book to charge & procrastinating from any work what so ever. You know what I want to do, right?
Promise it will be the last one for a while. A little summer & book qs.
Girly flower book covers or half naked people covers?
Small town or city settings?
Cry and swoon or laugh and swoon book?
Fresh cherries or fresh peaches?
Lemonade or ice tea?
Roses or sweet peas?
Visit a drive in theater or a carnival?
A summer movie you want to see?
A summer book you can’t wait for?
I wanna play! I’m a little bored today.
I’m taking a break from my cry fest so I’ll play!
1. Girly flowers hands down, or anything artistic.
2. Both equally.
3. Hmmm. LOL cry obviously.
4. I live near Fredericksburg TX, so I’ll have to say peaches.
5. Iced tea
6. Carnations 😉
7. Drive in
8. I don’t even know what’s coming out!
9. Full Tilt tomorrow at midnight!! But I’ve read that so now I’m excited about I Swear on This Life.
Girly covers.
Small town always catches my attention but any place I feel like I can “see” it and wat to visit is a huge bonus.
Laugh and swoon.
Love both but cherries.
Lemonade, tart. But am into peppermint iced tea this summer.
Sweet peas.
Drive in.
Ghost Busters.
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir.
Yay, Fabi.
R. One thing I love about summer is the fresh fruit that never quite taste the same out of season.
Girly flower book covers or half naked people covers?
neither, I like abstract or sci-fi covers
Small town or city settings?
small town (or apocalypse or off-world)
Cry and swoon or laugh and swoon book?
laugh and swoon (or hold my breath)
Fresh cherries or fresh peaches?
peaches (or, ummmm – peaches)
Lemonade or ice tea?
lemonade (unless it’s “long island”)
Roses or sweet peas?
roses (no idea what sweet peas are)
Visit a drive in theater or a carnival?
drive-in (or carnival 😉
A summer movie you want to see?
tons of good one are coming out this summer but I’ll settle for anything Marvel
A summer book you can’t wait for?
Born of Legend by Sherrilyn Kenyon (just came out)
Fast Connection by Megan Erickson and Santino Hassel (July 11th)
Gemina by Anne Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (not until October – waaahhhh)
*weird is me*
Bev, I LOVE summer fruit! Especially from a Farmer’s Market before it’s been refrigerated.
Sweetpeas have this lovely fragrance.
https://www.google.com/search?q=sweetpeas&client=ms-android-samsung&prmd=ismvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiyqMnF08bNAhUL4GMKHQzeALYQ_AUIBygB&biw=360&bih=559
Fabi, yes to farmers markets. ☺
Is Texas known for peaches?
Ok, I’m switching to sweet peas
Not Texas but Georgia is and we’re close enough 😉
Fredericksburg, Texas is famous for peaches 🙂
ummmm, I may have to make a pit stop
Looks like an old west town.
They’re in season! Coming the way I told you, you’ll probably see fruit stands on the side of the road! Just make sure they say Fredericksburg! I’ll make you a cobbler if you want!
LOL R. I’m good with them fresh off the vine. Thank you though. If I see a stand I’m definitely stopping.
It’s a cute little German town with bed and breakfasts and shopping and schnitzel! And I just found out there’s a killer War in the Pacific naval museum there. My husband is dying to go.
Bev, a lot of our towns or “old downtowns” look like that. Barring Houston, Dallas, possibly Austin, that’s the Texas norm.
Maybe shouldn’t use words like “killer” and “dying” when talking about a war museum. I really didn’t mean to do that.
This is my nearest downtown:. https://www.dentonrc.com/local-news/local-news-headlines/20130713-hashing-over-central-denton.ece
Even though I’m only 30-45 mins from Dallas. I don’t see that bug city skyline unless I head in that direction.
bug city? Ha! “Big” but bug works too. I’m such a country girl. Big cities make me itch.
I wondered about that R. I read it twice…lol
*shakes head* I know. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if my foot ever dislodged from my mouth.
1. neither cover appeals to me – I like simple covers, but I’ll go with girly flowers because all those half naked people get old
2. small town – love all those kinds of stories where everyone knows everyone, or if there’s a cafe or coffee shop!
3. LAUGH and swoon. I miss laughing at books. That’s what I used to read a lot of.
4. Peaches, definitely. I had a cat named Peaches once. Sniffle.
5. Sweet tea (Texas style). But I love peppermint iced tea like Bev, too.
6. Sweet peas.
7. Carnivals!!! OMG. I love stories with a carnival.
8. Finding Dori (because I have no clue what movies are out).
9. KA’s newest in Fantasyland Series. Yipee. And Throne of Glass next in the series.
R. Renee – I am also in Texas. Right by Fabi, actually. Howdy ya’ll.
7.
That looks like a nice place Fabi. It looks small until I saw the population #, lol.
I’d love to see Texas–some day.
MichlleS, R was trying to invite you to her writers getaway since she knows you live near me. I told her I’m not a writer so now it’s a writers/readers getaway. 🙂
Bev, ANYTIME !!! Just tell me when you land and I’ll pick you at the airport.
This is a rather big town for me. I lived between Kemp (pop 400+) and Kaufman (pop 10,000+) for years. I was in Flower Mound (pop 10,000+) until it exploded to pop 40,000+
So you guys that live in NYC or LA or any of those huge cities, the only thing I have as comparison is Houston and Dallas. LOL. Although, I did fly in to Boston a couple of times…I think the New England area is one of the most beautiful in the country. Then again, the majesty of the Grand Canyon and the raw beauty the AZ foothills. Gah! So much beauty all-around us.
Yes! MichelleS! Writers retreat is just a title. One of the girls asked me if there would be time to write and I laughed at her. (Not of we get the slip n slide!) It’s just a weekend of book lovers!! Come over to the dark side with us!
I’m secretly hoping someone writes so I can be a fly on the wall. I have a fascination with watching creative people create. I love watching folks who do crafts or the ones who draw and when I can watch someone creating a piece of music – I’m liable to drool.
I was last in line and left for a bathroom break when God handed out creativity.
Creative people:.
I’m with you on the book covers, Michelle S. Neither of those really my thing. Weird, I know, but I’m sick of naked male torsos as book covers, sometimes with not even a face! My fantasy alpha guys (in my head) are tall and muscular, but not built with ridiculous OTT muscles on their muscles. That just spells too much time in the gym! Actually turns me off.
What do I like on my covers? Something unique to the book maybe e.g. my hardcover copy of Justin Cronin’s The Passage which I recently reread has an exquisite cover of a spooky young girl’s face (one of the key characs) and it’s all highlighted in a strange glowy texture that gleams as you move the book.
For an average romance book cover, a couple kissing/ hugging is nice. They don’t have to be naked LOL. HRs – a woman in a gorgeous gown with a parasol. Hollywood Dirt (which I loved BTW, Grey. Can’t wait for her new one, Moonshot). HD has a great cover – captivating, intriguing, related to the book. Summer (MC) back to camera, hand on head as if confused, facing some blurry (hollywood?) lights. Suits the book.
Fabi love I! Except #1. I can’t remember the last time I was actually bored!
Instead of watching the creative process, which you totally can, I thought you might enjoy hooking up some of Erica Lynn’s sex scenes to Peter the British “natural reader.” Good times!
Yes, HD had a great cover! Perfect for the book!!
I love it! It!! My love for “I” will need to come later…
Grey, I also really liked Blindfolded Innocence by Alessandra Torre. Feisty but young and inexperienced h, hot player H.
Lol, not my favorite either. Well, I like flowers. Just going for the most common we see on romance and complain about.
With HR I like some of the gown ones, like Kleypas new pre order, but many are the gown falling off and in a clinch just like CR.
I really like Rainbow Rowell ‘ s covers.
Yeh Bev I like the Kleypas covers I’m seeing on amazon. Tasteful but tantalising. IKWYM about the gown falling off style – I guess they tell us something about the book – maybe don’t go there LOL.
I have some older paperback HRs which have old-style covers that make both me and my husband laugh when I get them out for a reread. Yet some of my fave books! e.g. Mary Balogh’s Heartless. Super cheesy cover in pink and lace with a rather daggy gent tenderly kissing his lady’s hand. Yet, one of my fave books ever! My, how cover fashions have changed. Mostly for the better, I have to say, except for the trend for hunks of anonymous male, muscly flesh that do nothing for me.
Fabi, I match that in a very scary way. Every one hits a little too close to home.
Girly flower book covers or half naked people covers? Neither. Half Naked. I hate the flower pictures. I can’t even tell what genre they are. At least half naked is most likely romance.
Small town or city settings? City!
Cry and swoon or laugh and swoon book? Laughter every time
Fresh cherries or fresh peaches? Peaches *sings song* Millions of peaches, peaches for me!
Lemonade or ice tea? Nope. I hate tea and I’m allergic to lemons. So uh, apple juice?
Roses or sweet peas? Sweet Peas
Visit a drive in theater or a carnival? Carnival
A summer movie you want to see? Still haven’t seen Finding Dory.
A summer book you can’t wait for? Arcana Rising by Kresley Cole
And as far as cities, the one I’m in now is 120 thousand people. I grew up in a city with 190 thousand, and the city next to mine almost hits a million. 🙂 Small towns are a huge mystery to me. The smallest “town” I lived in was Norco, CA at 28 thousand, but that was literally in the center of Corona. (pop 159 thousand)
I wish I was creative, especially musically inclined.
I’m just not, but even if not artistic or crafty maybe we have good imaginations or creative thinking or problem solving.
Fabi, I couldn’t imagine a 400 pop. I’d love to see the east coast maybe live in Maine.
Tessa, how about milkshakes? That’s a good summer drink.
Jan, I just saw mention of a Balogh that sounds good, the whole series in fact. It’s a group that have come back from war……shoot…my memory…..brb.
The Survivors Club series.
Oooooh we’re playing questionnaires???
*backtracks to find questionnaire*
Yes, Milkshakes! *starts singing again* *stops remembering I hate that song*
Tessa, you need Jan to get you one of those crazy milkshakes from Australia.
Wow Tessa. I am probably the opposite of every one of those.
Rofl. I noticed. We like opposite types of summers, except peaches. Probably because it’s better than that milkshake song.
Favorite milkshake is strawberry at Ruby’s. They keep it pure homemade strawberry ice cream with strawberries in it. Then they blend it and poor. Awesome shake.
I just this minute downloaded the nook app to my phone. I think I like it. I like that it doesn’t automatically load every thing like kindle app does to me. I also like the way the pages turn.
Tessa,
https://www.buzzfeed.com/hannahmars/australian-milkshake-obsession?utm_term=.ku48GzJjx#.bvx6bBV3P
Maybe the apple one? Oh and Ruby’s is forties/fifties inspired. So the cute old fashioned one looks like it. 😀 A lot of those look so messy, I’d be wondering what happened.
OOoh, it looks like this one. They make a strawberry banana too. https://www.foodspotting.com/places/55352-ruby-s-diner-cabazon/items/24657-strawberry-banana-milkshake
That looks good. Do they bring out the extra in the silver cup?
One diner I went to would do that.
Strawberry and banana sounds delicious.
What the actual hey, Bev? I’ve never seen the likes of such exotic, but wonderful milkshakes. Wow. Obviously I lead a sheltered life. Honey Badger sounds vaguely rude LOL. I do fancy the odd vanilla malted, but probably a million calories right there, so it’s a very occasional treat.
Bev, I’ve read some of Balogh’s survivors series, but found them a bit meh. The series is very popular and well-loved, but just not for moi. I didn’t really connect with the characters. As an author, I find her inconsistent. She’s written some of my fav HRs EVER e.g. Heartless, also the four horsemen series (all 3 books are great, esp Irresistible), multiple rereads, also the pair of books More Than A Mistress & No Man’s Mistress isn’t bad. (The prequel, Secret Mistress, is crap). Also Slightly Dangerous was good, but not the rest of that series. I’ve tried quite a few of her other books, ever hopeful, but found most of the others I tried were just DNFs. Frustrating. Still, many, many do love the survivors and her other series too, so as a HR lover, only 1 way to find out….why don’t you give them a try?
If you ask, they will. Now I want a Ruby’s shake and they are 600 miles away!
I loved Balogh, It’s been a while since I read her but I really loved her. I accidentally grabbed one from the library a while back and kept cursing because I had read it already.
LOL Tessa. I’ve done that before too. Looked forward to sitting down to read it only to find I’d already been there, done that :/
I started reading Born of Legend last night. Reading a Sherrilyn Kenyon book is like a breath of fresh air. I’m only at 7% because the book is good and long, but it’s already better than the last half dozen I’ve read.
A romance blog I read is doing a podcast in a couple weeks on These Old Shades. I want to try and re-read it next week before hand, just cause. someone should read it with me.
Jan130 – in a HR mood? One of my faves was The MacGregors series by Paula Quinn. Starts off with Laird of the Mist. I remember every book, which is rare for me. Just adored this series, and there’s a spinoff of the kids’ stories when they grow up! Yipee.
Michelle I haven’t read Paula Quinn. Thank you. I’ll see whether our library has any of them. Laird of the Mist is pretty pricy on amazon :/
Bev These Old shades is one of my ALL TIME FAVS. I’m in a post-apocalypse place at the moment (The massive Passage trilogy) and luvvin it, so I’m not really in a Leonie and Avon reading mood at the moment to do a buddy read with you. But I hope there is somebody out there who hasn’t read it who now picks up this wonderful book and falls in love with it. A beautifully written, evocative, romantic historical, with memorable, wonderful characters, including MCs and secondary characters. A classic of the genre. MUST READ if you’re into HR.
Hey, girls! Author party-crasher alert!
Maryse, I somehow *just* found out that you featured ALL ACCESS and I wanted to send huge hugs and squees of thanks. And to DG and anyone else who read it, THANK YOU! Happy to hear you loved it, DG. (That Niles, right? #AdorbsCity) 😉 If anyone else checks it out, hope you enjoy it, too! Thanks again (times a million!!). xo – Liberty
