UPDATE!!! THIS ONE JUST WENT LIVE (The Contradiction of Solitude and bargain priced BIG TIME!)——>
and I must say… I like her style because… sure, the blurb def. gave me a jolt but THIS is what got me. A. Meredith Walters (the author) says: “**Reader Warning** There is NO warning. I won’t tell you if there’s a HEA, a cliffhanger, or a love triangle. Just read it and find out for yourself but please don’t post spoilers. The fun of a story is figuring it all out!”
Yesterday was sort of a surprise release day. I mean… I wasn’t even expecting this many new awesome sounding new releases. Kind of feels like a Tuesday! Plus so many here have read a ton of the latest ones and loved ’em! So this list appears to be a good mix of tried and true and “one-click-inducing”. Tell me if you’ve tried any below and what you think.
Some that have me excited to try? With Every Heartbeat (YES!! Absolutely this one for me. THAT BLURB gave me an uber-jolt!!), Life To My Flight (the ouch-factor of her loving him and him only wanting one night), When Fall Breaks (Rodeo star that she’s in love with turns her world upside, upsetting her twin brother and his friends…), Married to the Bad Boy (something about this one is calling me… she’s running from her bad ex), Two Truths and a Lie (totally intriguing blurb, she’s in hiding from a police officer… and then someone else throws a monkey-wrench in her whole plan)… Yep! We’re in for some goodies again!
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
AUDIOBOOK BARGAINS (if you already have the Kindle ebook these are INCREDIBLY bargain priced!!! Like… e-book bargain priced!!!) PLUS check out the free audible trial + 2 free ebooks deal ————->
- AND!! Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! <— This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL! In fact, Christine just tried it on the last list, and said:
Christine: “Thank you! That is one handy tool!!”
Maryse: YAY Christine!! It’s awesome, isn’t it? I’ll be using that one frequently… nifty little gadget. 😉
Fabi: Maryse just tried the audible tool. It’s awesome. Thank you
- Arsen: A Broken Love Story by Mia Ashler <— Angela just told me this one was JUST RELEASED in audiobook format and OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! I dunno if it’s bargain priced (it was on it’s release day… so I’ve been told) but here is my review of the book.

Another I one-clicked the Kindle version for, and still have to read (maybe listen to, instead at this price). GIGOLO! In fact, Linda says: “I’d recommend reading Price of a Kiss first as the main characters in this book are in TPWL and there is a scene where you won’t get the full effect if you haven’t read it first. Loooved both and the author writes in a way that makes me want to read every word. They truly are that good.“
- Monster in His Eyes by J.M Darhower <— Have the Kindle version? This one’s super cheap in audio with Amazon’s fun seamless book system! So many loved it. Like bev: “I got three hours of sleep last night reading Monster in His Eyes and am almost done and know I’ll need the next.”

- The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman Trilogy Book 1) by Paullina Simons <— FANTASTIC BOOK at a FANTASTIC price!! (my review) and MichelleS agrees: “…if you haven’t read it, then I highly recommend it. It’s up there with Outlander for me for prose done right. Phenomenal.“
- Needing Moore Series Boxed Set by Julie Moore <— ENTIRE SERIES BUNDLED for a rock bottom price (thank you Kathy!!) And Samantha highly recommends! “…her writing blows me away and the realism of her characters and their struggles and story are amazing!”
- The Perception by Adriana Locke <— Lots of great reviews already for this recent release. Jennifer recommends it! “I read The Perception by Adriana Locke and just loved it… Its definitely a 5star read.” A bit from the blurb: “…fate intervenes in the form of a broken down car and the kind offer of assistance from a handsome stranger with a sweet, southern drawl. In exchange, all she has to do is go to dinner with him…“
- Married to the Bad Boy by Vanessa Waltz <— Just recently released and super-bargain priced! “She’s running from a man who will kill me for touching her. Well, she’s tired of running and needs my help. She thinks I’m doing it for money. I’m doing it to make her mine.” and Andrea loved it! “Super intense and tight read..totally did not expect that from the title name!”
- Two Truths and a Lie (PRG Investigations Book 1) by Ashley Stoyanoff <— IN HIDING ALERT! Shell find us this recent release at a bargain price! And Niki agrees! “Two Truths and a Lie by Ashley Stoyanoff sounds pretty good!” YEP!!! Whoa. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!? She’s been in hiding from a police officer… and then: “It was supposed to be easy. A meeting with Jason Pierce, a private investigator, was set up for me. All I had to do was go to him, let him do his thing, and then I could go home, or so I thought. That is, until I met Jason and things got … complicated.“
- With Every Heartbeat (Forbidden Men Book 4) by Linda Kage <— FORBIDDEN-ROMANCE ANGST ALERT!!! THIS one is calling me BIG time! It was released this week, already on a list but I just HAD to bring it back when Beverly said: “Loved With Evey Heartbeat by Linda Kage. Her whole Forbidden Men series is just great!” And Linda agrees! “Oh Beverly A. Just one clicked With Every Heartbeat!! I agree the Forbidden Men series is outstanding. Loved To Professor, With Love! So happy you love the latest in this series. This author is one of my automatic go to!!” And from that blurb? Yes! I must agree the angst-potential is pulling me to it! “Maybe if Quinn Hamilton hadn’t asked me to skip classes for the day and help him pick out an engagement ring for my best friend, I wouldn’t have fallen for him so completely on that sunny Tuesday afternoon and I wouldn’t feel so conflicted. But I did, and I can’t take it back, no matter how hard I try. So I have to deal with the fact that even I’m not as good, or honest, or caring as I’d always thought I was, and no matter what I do next, someone’s going to get hurt. Probably me.” MINE!!!!
- Rainfall by Melissa Delport <— Oooooh one of my favorites at a rock-bottom bargain price!!! My review of Rainfall.
- Rock (Hard Rock Harlots Book 4) by Kendall Grey <— Just recently released (thanks Angela!!). Here’s the reading order.
- Kyland by Mia SHerida <— I’m bringing him back so I don’t forget. He’s on the top of my short TBR list, especially after MichelleS reminded me: “Maryse – don’t forget about Kyland… he may have been shelved due to all the greatness that has been on your Kindle lately, but I am SURE you’d fall in love with him and their story. And…. you’re on a roll… why not add one more?” <— AGREED! 😀
- The Beauty Series by Skye Warren <— DARK-ish? READ ALERT! The entire series bundled for a super-bargain price! (thanks Nancy!) “Erin cleans Mr. Morris’s house twice a week to pay for college. She soaks up every moment with the man she secretly loves–until she interrupts a private moment. He’s moaning her name, and she refuses to hide her feelings any longer…” (he’s scarred inside and out)…
- Bastian’s Storm: Surviving Raine Book 2 by Shay Savage <— ON SUPER-SALE!! And I LOVED book #1 like crazy (Surviving Raine)
- Hero by Samantha Young <— recent release and back on the list ’cause Shell is into it! “I randomly picked to read ‘Hero’ by Samantha Young, don’t know if any of you girls have read it, I am half way through and I am loving it. It’s a millionaire romance and written really well with really likeable characters.”
- The Club (The Club Trilogy Book 1) by Lauren Rowe <— Michelle and Aimee found us this super-bargain! A bit from the blurb: “”When I read Jonas Faraday’s brutally honest personal message on his application to The Club, I practically climaxed at my desk. I’m an idiot to risk losing my job but I couldn’t resist contacting him. I knew my confession would be like dangling an irresistible carrot in front of his nose—but never in a million years did I think he’d actually hunt me down.“”
- Darkness Series Boxed Set (Books 1-4) by K.F. Greene <— Michelle found us this series bundled at a rock-bottom price too and she says: ” I got it after seeing the great reviews for the series.”
- Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell <— Jean LOVED it! “…just finished E&P! Loved it! I re-read the last 4 paragraphs like 5 times!” and bev agrees: “I re read the end a few times too. Just hurt for Eleanor and adore Park. If we are talking real life and not what we prefer in books, I would not mind knowing an adult Park.”
- Stepbrother Bad Boy by Veronica Daye <— STEPBROTHER ALERT! Recent release and at a rock bottom price!! “…there I was, busy with my daily Shane stalking in the halls when the unthinkable happened–my dad eloped with Shane’s mom. And to make matters even worse, Shane took it out on me. My life couldn’t get worse, right?“
- Pure Punishment by T.L Smith <— SOUNDS CREEPY ALERT!! Nancy found us this one at a rock bottom price and it has lots of great reviews! “My name is Kayla. Would you like to play a game with me? I promise to only make you bleed and possibly scream.
Are you ready for some fun?“

- Hearts of Fire by L.H. Conway – expected release date March 9th 2015!! Another circus hottie! “Life was going exactly the way I’d planned until Lille came along. She wanted to run away with the circus, have an adventure, but this world was never meant for her. I try to keep her safe, because she doesn’t know the dangers that are out here on the road. She doesn’t know the monsters that lurk behind the bright lights of the ring. In truth, I could be considered one of them. We were fashioned from different cloths, never intended to mix. So I watch her. I try not to touch, even when her eyes invite me.”

- Soaring (The Magdalene Series Book 2) by Kristen Ashley – expected release date March 16th 2015
- The Skull Throne (The Demon Cycle Series Book 4) by Peter V. Brett – expected release April 9th 2015 <— Fabi is excited about this one! “Peter Brett releases The Skull Throne (The Demon Cycle Series Book 4). Fantasy fans rejoice! This is a mind warping, addictive, dark fantasy the likes of which I’ve never come across before.… I wouldn’t care if those books were priced at hundreds of dollars each. They would still be preorders for me so I could have them at 12:01 AM on release day.” <— WHOA! What am I missing!!?? I need to read these!
- Kane (Slater Brothers Book 3) by L.A. Casey – May 5th 2015
- Conviction (Book Two in The Consolation Duet) (The Salvation Series 4) by Corinne Michaels – May 27th 2015
- Under the Influence by L.B. Simmons <— Amy is excited about this one! She says: “There is a book coming out in May by L.B. Simmons called Under the Influence and I. Can’t. Wait! From the blurb: “I loved you. I raged for you. I wept for you. And now, I’m letting you go.” GAHHHHH! Just that part alone has my heartache meter going crazy! *happy dance*” YES AMY!!! I love that!

enjoy, Silke
Ok I need something different after 2 PNR reads, although both were fabulous, so I’m finally going to start Eleanor & Park!
Thanks Maryse… I’m soo excited. BONE Deep. I love this series. Women assassins. Its soo soo good. Right now though my heart is in Signal Bend – Biker Series. Book 6. I started the series last week and I can’t stop reading it. It’s all consuming. It’s by far the best biker series I’ve read. Extremely Realistic, Raw, Violent, Lots of tears are involved but above all..STEAMY and Amazing. Susan Fanetti is a remarkable writer.
I have no idea what to start after being enraptured by The Deal. I loved it. Loved, loved, LOVED it!! I’m sooooo leery of starting another contemporary romance right now because it woud have some pretty big shoes to fill after Garrett and “Wellsy” (so cute!). So, I’m thinking Missing Pieces ’cause it sounds a little dystopian, but Need looks like it might be up to the challenge. Ooooh, I know…has anyone read Death Trippers yet? Any thoughts on it? Oh, oh, oh! Conviction by Lesley Jones looks good too!
Or I could go hang out at the courtyard… *bracing for response from Others lovers* 😉
Just wanted to give you a friendly reminder to read Kyland!! It’s an absolutely amazing read that stays with you. You will never forget the characters!
Courtyard Amy!
Amy so did you love The Deal then? 😉 I really want to read Missing Pieces too and pretty sure that is next after E&P. Well Tessa and I have left the courtyard but Bev and I think MichelleS are still there so you’d have company.
I checked out those MC books Georgia and they look really good! Added them to my list thanks 🙂
There all consuming …. have tissues ready. Enjoy!
Thank you Melody. I absolutely will! 🙂
I just added 3 more books to the bargains… 2 darkish ones, and Bastian’s Storm.
FREE from Roxie Rivera the 3 PART Russian Protection series.. FREE!!! Total Alpha Russian Mob.. H.O.T.!!
Georgia I’ve been hearing that is the best biker series out there. I gotta start it…
I love the Hard Rock Harlots series! Didn’t realize another book was coming out and now I’m excited!!! It’s one of those rocker series you will never forget! So different! Raunchy and hot!
Reading Bastian’s Storm right now and LOVING it! I seriously forgot how much I love this dirty talking, moody jerk!!! Oh Amy, don’t you still need to read Surviving Raine……*hint hint*….
All this talk about the Others serirs this week from you guys has me wanting to go the the courtyard and I don’t even know what that means!! Haha!
I know what you mean Amy, I’m having trouble figuring out my next read after The Deal. Been reading some samples, Hero, With Every Heartbeat. Conviction does look good too. Did you read Fighting Silence? I think Maryse had said that was her next read. Need another 5 star read after The Deal! *sigh*
Maryse did you read Fighting Silence??
I read Fighting Silence and loved it!
I’m reading Fighting Silence right now… Almost done, actually. Very good, very!!! but… The Deal ruined me. LOL, at least for now…. ’cause i’ve been able to put down “Fighting”. But the angsty stuff is there in droves, so it’s still a mighty fine read. 😉
I’ll have my review up for Fighitng Silence tonight or tomorrow…
Just finished Boy Toy Chronicles, and it was extremely hilarious. I was laughing through the whole thing, tears and everything type laughter. I want another with that group of guys, it was so funny.
Yay boy toys! The college boy gigolos? That one does sound like fun!
😯
BLAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! No you didn’t Maryse!!
I totally did!!!!!!
*nods*
Did you catch my edit? 😉
Jean…the courtyard is The Others series. I’m a couple of books behind everyone else but the courtyard IS a pretty fun place. And dangit woman, don’t start in on me with SR!! (you know I still loves ya, right? ;))
Michelle and Cheryl, I just started Missing Pieces (only 5% in) so I can’t say yet whether I like it or not, but I will say that I love the sarcastic narration from the two MCs so far! Not liking how there is not a clear distinction when it switches from the H to the h and vice versa other than a few line breaks but I can get used to it. *crosses fingers*
Hang on a sec, I gotta see this…
OMG!! LOL!!!!! 😛
*snort*
Stupid comment update emails! 😛
Nuh-uh, I’m lovin’ those update emails right about now. 😛
Okay, I’m cautiously optimistic about Missing Pieces ladies…at this point it could go either way but I like being in their heads so far! 😀 These might not seem funny out of context but they are making me snort:
“Taking one for the team wasn’t exactly what I pictured when I envisioned meeting my future husband.” <—- This is at age 6 when she is "partnered" with a nose picker.
Whoops, hit submit by accident up there…
“I longed to tell her, in words more suited to a seven-year-old, to f#&k off.” <—– That was from him after she called him a "fat head." *snicker*
I read Fighting Silence before The Deal so i get it! Nothing can compare to The Deal right now!
The Deal is pure perfection!
Aww E&P so far is giggle inducing adorable and funny with some of those one liners! I know the heavy has to be coming with Eleanor’s at home arrangement though. Am I going to need tissues for this one?
Maryse I know I’m slow, but what “edit?”
Amy, love the comments from Missing Pieces!!
Deborah Bladon’s ‘Trace’, in three parts, is now all released, and is to be recommended. Maryse, I would love to see you do a reading order for Bladon’s books -as her stories are great at interweaving couples and families, and I’ve definitely got a couple out of sync. You mention Vain and Ruin, but there are a number of others that cross over with characters… Thanks, as ever, for all your great recommendations!
Sold…I just bought Contradiction of Solitude. I couldn’t help it with that summary….and 99 cents. Hope it’s good!!
*sniffles* Just found out from Jeanine Frost’s facebook page that my teenage+ years favorite author, Bertrice Small, passed away. *grabs manatee and keeps sniffling*
Cheryl… how I wrote my last “Boy Toy” comment made it appear that I thought gigolos were fun. LOL!!!
So I had to fix it to mean the BOOK sounded like fun. Always the book. *snort* 😛
Oh Tessa! Bertrice Small was one of my favorite authors too. 🙁 So sad
Maryse, yep only in books!! *wink, wink*
Still trying to decide on a book. Fighting Silence, Missing Pieces, Hero…
Wow, the Contradiction of Solitude, not knowing if it is a HEA or the dreaded cliffhanger; scary!!! *reaching for one-click*
Boy toys…*snicker*…gigolos…*snort* Sorry, I’ll behave myself. 😛
Cheryl, I saw that too and whoooooaaaa…I think that one is next for me! For now, I am really liking Missing Pieces. 😀
Not sure if I missed Contradiction of Solitude up there or what, but thanks for the heads-up on that one Erin!
For anyone looking for something different: I was in a post-“the deal” funk too and started reading the seven series by Dannika Dark. It’s paranornal- about shifters actually- but it’s amazing! It has everything we crave- hot men, fiesty women, angst, action (in and out of bed of course!), humor. The series reminds me of the rock chick series by kristen Ashley… I read the Mageri series first but you don’t need to read them before starting this one. And each book is a different story too so you get your HEA and each book after follows in sequence. The boxed set of books 1-3 is 8.99 so not bad at all!
Starting The Deal today. I’ll probably read the new Lesley Jones after – has anyone read it yet? I recommend the Needing Moore series listed above – I really enjoyed it!
I immediately 1-clicked Contradiction of Solitude…… totally intrigued!
Jean, I am reading that one next and going in blind…I stayed away from the reviews ’cause I don’t want *any* spoilers. I read her books Bad Rep (delicious medium angst!!) and Find You In the Dark 1 and 2, and I really liked them all.
Let us know about Conviction, Julie. That was another immediate one-click for me!
Thanks AP! If you like shifter-type books then you might like The Others series that’s mentioned a lot on here…AKA the courtyard. 😉
AP – I’m a huge fan of the Mageri series and the Seven series. If you like that, then you’d probably like Elizabeth Hunter’s series: Elemental Mysteries, and the Irin Chronicles. Both were amazing and on my favorites list. The closest thing to Rock Chicks meets Paranormal, for me, is Shelly Laurenston’s The Pride series. Laugh out loud funny, super hot guys, feisty women – and they are shifters!!! The lions are the best! The females seriously kick their butts. So funny. (Also very high on the steam factor).
I’m going in blind too Amy! Just about done Bastian’s Storm then I’m on it!
I read The Deal after your review and LOVED it! Thanks…and yes the locker room scene I was reading and cracking up about at 1 in the morning..my husband kept telling me to be quiet because my laughing woke him up…” Penis- shaped penises” heehee!
I can’t wait to hear what you guys, Amy and Jean, have to say about The Contradiction of Solitude. Is it a PNR? Or just good mind-f*ckery?
Oh I loved E&P! So adorable and that ending! I need to read more of her books soon. No idea what to go to next. Amy Missing Pieces still good? Any word on The Contradiction of Solitude – definitley intriguing. I also have The Summer Remains, Conviction, Sustain, Dark Debt, Unteachable and Kyland on the top of my tbr right now.
MichelleS, I’m pretty sure it’s the latter…you gonna join us and read it?
Michelle, right? E&P is definitely something special. 😉 I really do like Missing Pieces so far, especially because it has just been focusing on their friendship and how zany the two of them are together. It’s taking on a kinda ominous tone now though…in other words, just my kind of read! I *am* early enough in the book to where I could squirrel to CoS but I’m trying not to. We’ll see… 😕
Omg Jennifer…that part… *snort* 😛
Ugh I’m totally derailed since I can’t stop wondering about CoS when I should be reading from my tbr. I’m gonna join in if a few of you are going to read it then…bah at least it’s on sale!
Amy, E&P really was a special book and I know it will stick with me. I’m not going to be helpful in the anti-squirrel effort since I’m starting CoS, it’s too tempting with the mysterious blurb. I will read Missing Pieces though, it’s getting great reviews too.
Oh my god u guys I found us a gem!!! I’m only 39% into this book and I freaking love it!! It’s a grief/love story and it has the hot tattoo artist single dad and she’s his dead wife’s best friend oh it’s soooo good it’s totally us!! I don’t know if anyone has read it but from the other characters in the book I’m sure it will turn into a series and even thought the title of the book says so he’s not totally a bad boy, the writing is so real it could happen really and so could all their conversations oh u have to read it! Maryse I know u like to search for stuff realllllly go search on this I know u will love it – bringing home the bad boy by Jessica Lemmon!!!
Huh….never seen a “circus hottie” before.
Sorry, I remember what I was gonna ask before I got distracted by the “circus hottie” book description…Maryse, didn’t you review book 3 in the Forbidden Men series? Almost sure you did but can’t find it….
Finished JM Darhower’s By Any Other Name. Sad, but good. I’m obviously not going to say what happened, but really enjoyed it.
Tessa – you and I must be in the same kind of mood. I finished Boy Toy Chronicles and laughed out loud a few times. I really liked it. Also finished By Any Other Name and will be looking for the second book. Loved Matty.
I did too! I loved Dante as well. So many great characters.
I’m finishing up The Hero, which was good with some angst, and then I may just jump on the Contradiction of Solitude bandwagon! I really hope it does not have a cliffhanger!! *crosses fingers*
Read the sample of The Contradiction of Solitude and just not feeling it right now; probably my mood. Reading sample of With Every Heartbeat, may go with this one today…we’ll see…nothing is really grabbing me yet.
I finished Bastian’s Storm yesterday and loved it! Don’t know why I waited so long! This book is all Bastian! My heart was breaking for him in the beginning while he tried to adjust to the real world,, but the last 30% was adrenaline, heart pounding action! I was on the edge of my seat! I was so nervous when Evan Arden came into the picture…I mean I love both of these characters…..but Shay Savage was a genius!!!! Loved it!
Jean, I felt the same way when I finally read it. There are some who didn’t like the second book but I loved it. In a different way than I loved the first one, but still loved it. I can’t think of a single Shay Savage book I haven’t loved. Her stories hit the spot for me. They are always original. Her writing is so good that I get lost in the story and pay no attention to the writing. That, to me, is a truly talented writer.
Yes Fabi, so different than SR! And I did love it in a different way! Sooo good! I agree about Shay Savage…. definitely a go-to author for me!
Ugh, I just can’t decide on my next book read. I looked at Conviction, With Every Heartbeat, Stepbrother Untouchable, but nothing giving me that “feel.” HELP!!
I remember commenting about a book that the cover changed from something “smexy” to a bird’s nest, but can’t seem to find that. Remember a reader recommending this series…thought it was a post of Maryse’s. So frustrating!!
Cheryl, that book was Arouse by Nina Lane. Have it but haven’t read it yet.
Thanks Jean. I remember commenting on the book, but couldn’t find where I commented. 😉
Is anybody reading something really good right now? I’m swinging between With Every HeartBeat, Conviction and Stepbrother Untouchable, but I have to say The Deal ruined me and nothing seems to be giving me the same “feel” right now.
Any of you reading The Contradiction of Solitude recommend starting it? Ugh, I guess I’ll just have to clean my house while I decide…
Maryse, what book are you reading now? Ok, I’ve put off cleaning the house enough…
I’m reading CoS and have 30% more. When I finish I will comment once I see how it comes together. It’s hard to give an opinion with a story like this until you read the whole thing.
Cheryl, Boy Toy was hillarious, if that’s your type. Stepbrother Untouchable… meh. It followed the same formula as Stepbrother Billionaire, so I got bored fast.
I finished Very Twisted Things. Good, great characters, 3.5 – 4stars, but would have been five but for one huge thing. I’ve got a huge complaint to authors who write about rockstars. SHOW ME THE ROCKSTAR! Seriously, I have read three books almost in a row where they are popular rockers, but there is no concert description, no performance description, not even rehearsal descriptions. Just… we played and it sounded like we were meant to rock together. What does that mean, really? I’m tired of, he played the guitar alone and wrote lyrics… I want the rockstar, not the moody musician. (/end rant)
Looks like a few of you are having the same problem I had after reading The Deal. Nothing sounds good or nothing grabs you. I didn’t even WANT to read anything else. Sorry I can’t help with suggestions. I tend to switch genres when that happens to me. Well, I switch genres even when that doesn’t happen to me ;-). So I’m now neck deep in a sci fi series. This way there is no comparison and no “meh” feeling for me after a great book like The Deal.
Thanks Michelle, I’m curious to hear about that book.
Thanks Tessa, that helps narrow it down.
Fabi, hmmm that makes me think of the one Amy just read, Missing Pieces. Although, I have to admit I’m not a big fan of paranormal and sci-fi, but I get what you’re saying about switching up the genres. 😉
Michelle, curious to see what you think of CoS. I’m at 30% now. These characters are f’ed up!!! I have some predictions already, but looks like it could go anywhere.
I ended up sticking with Missing Pieces, even though I didn’t get much reading time in yesterday ’cause the stupid home button on my stupid phone stopped working so I had to go and get a new phone (not gonna complain too much…the iPhone 6 plus is GREAT! :D) then my iPad started acting stupid and I couldn’t use it and I was afraid I would have to get a new iPad as well. Yeah, a whole lot of stupid around here yesterday.
ANYways, it’s working now and I’m back to Missing Pieces which I am *really* enjoying. If I finish today then I may start CoS, even though y’all are being cryptic about it. 😛 Tuesday is all about Confess so I don’t want to start something I might not finish, ya know?
Hmm well I’ll be honest, CoS really didn’t work for me in the end. It was a weird mix of psychological thriller and romance that negated each other in a way. You have to engage with the characters’ thinking and psyche in a good psychological thriller…empathize a little at least. I was just reading thoughts not feeling them and completely did not connect with the characters, in fact I found them annoying and unlikable. I enjoy her writing too but it couldn’t rescue this one for me.
Jean, hopefully you have a better reaction to it. It seems from the reviews, at least on GR, that it’s a love or hate book. That’s another thing, all of my predictions were right so no suspense or shock value for me. I need something very happy now so off to dig through my tbr.
Have I told you guys how much I love reading your reactions to books you are either reading or just finished? Thanks for sharing!
Even if they are not glowing reactions Fabi? I’m honest though because I want others to be too. I feel like most post the ‘omigod I loved it’ reactions but we do not get enough of the negative ones, that I at least value as well.
Yes, absolutely Michelle! I agree and want to see honest reactions even when they are not glowing reviews.
Michelle, I am not feeling a connection to the characters at all in CoS either. But I’m going to finish it.
I’m with you guys…I like hearing *what* people did or didn’t like about a book. That’s what I love about this place. I can read Maryse’s reviews and others’ opinions on books I’m interested in without any spoilers. I’ve read a few too many spoilers in reviews on Amazon so now I just look at the star ratings, but here I can find out in more detail the good and the “meh” aspects. Y’all are the best. 😀
Aw crap, Jean…CoS is now looking more like a maybe than a definitely. 😕
I so appreciate the honest comments about books that you guys post here. It certainly helps me decide whether to read a book or not. 🙂
I decided to read With Every Heartbeat. I’m enjoying it so far; I’m at about 20%. Even though it’s part of a series, each book deals with different characters and can be read as a standalone. So far, I haven’t felt like I’m missing anything by not having read the previous books.
Think I’ll wait on CoS.
Anyone hear about Blocked by Lisa N Paul? It has me curious. Not much in reviews yet, since it just came out, but even the four star one complaint made it sound good.
Thanks for the insight Michelle!!! I feel like I can never trust the Amazon reviews that say the book is the best they have ever read etc. since I’ve trusted it a few too many times and then ended up disappointed!! I agree with Amy, this place is the best!!
I haven’t started Vision in Silver yet… I’ve been sick and miserable… Did you ladies love it??
I need to read that and I requested the rest of the Mercy Thompson books from the library… I really want to read the Alpha and Omega ones!! And I need to catch up to read Bone Deep by Lea Griffith… So many books…
Amy who is the author of Missing Pieces???
I’m really liking With Every Heartbeat, but ewww I want to b*tch slap Cora so bad. Evil!!
I finally read consumed and liked the boxer story then read the first book in the Signal Bend series and enjoyed but didn’t want to continue…what to read what to read? I decided I want paranormal with a strong heroine and I’ve read several comments from the Michelles and Amy about Written In Red…hope it lives up to high hopes!
Thanks to all who read and reported on CoS. I’m kind of glad I waited, then. With so many on my TBR list, I only want to squirrel away for a 5-star read, like The Deal.
I went with Alpha & Omega series newest one, by Patricia Briggs. Interesting so far. Not LOVING it, like I usually do P. Briggs, but we’ll see. There were just too many unfamiliar names too early on – couldn’t even picture who she was talking about. It’s the kid, no the mom, and the grandpa, no great grandpa, no dad…. and why do I need to know these people? I am sure I’ll love it in the end.
Jennifer – Written in Red is a smart book. Thoughtful. Well written. Well developed characters and a slow unfolding of information. For some, it may be too slow. For me, it was just right.
Niki, Missing Pieces is by Meredith Tate. You should give it a try!
I finished MP last night and thought it was pretty good. The last part of the book wrapped up a little too quickly compared to the pacing of the rest of the book, and I didn’t care too much for the repeated time jumps, but overall it was a good read and perfect, I think, for a book funk after reading The Deal. 😉 Their interactions as friends at the beginning kept making me snicker and snort. There was just enough longing between the two without dragged-out mopey whining, and the mid-level drama level was fitting for this type of story. Overall, I’d say it could be 4 stars but the quick wrap up and time jumps made it more of a 3.5-star read for me…but I’m glad I gave it a go!
Yep Jennifer, what MichelleS said. No sexy time in WiR (boo!) but the slow buildup of the relationship is a nice change of pace! 😀
Ha Niki I know what you mean about the inflated amazon reviews since I’ve been sucked in by them quite a few times and had to actually check again that I was reading the same book! Goodreads has slightly more reliable reviews so I look there too now. You know I LOVED ViS, for me, it was almost as good as WiR and better than MoC – they’re all just different shades of 5 stars though ;). Hope you feel better so you can get to the courtyard soon!
Jennifer, yey hope you enjoy WiR! It’s at the least very entertaining and the world Bishop builds is really fascinating. Let us know what you think of it.
MichelleS, Dead Heat overall was my least favorite book in the series but I still loved it in the end. There are moments that made up for some of the tedious lists of characters and the Arabian horse market and training extravaganza…I’m a vet too and the horse stuff was too much haha.
Finally got around to reading The Dare by Rachel Van Dyken. Funny, like The Wager and The Bet, though, also the same formula. I’m going to say, it’s a formula that works. I kept giggling the whole way through.

V is for Virgin was cute, but I was skewed against it due to one annoying aspect I couldn’t get past. It takes place at my old High School. Every time she referred to it as Huntington High School, or made mention of things that just don’t happen, (no one eats in the cafeteria there unless they have to) I’d just go nutty. So… good unless you went to Huntington Beach High School?
Son of No One was good, but in the land of Sherrilyn Kenyon… it wasn’t the best by any means. It read like a set up book, and more of a “here is a couple to read about while I relay all this info you need” book.
LOL Tessa! It would be crazy weird to read a book set in my high school. I don’t think…yeah, I couldn’t go there. 😕
Pretty much anything by Erica Stevens is good. And when it’s free?? Even better. 😉 I’ll say it again…the Captured series is really, really good. *sigh* Braith.
I can’t help the rant. *remains silent, after deleting five rants about research*
Erica Stevens is awesome. I clicked that one so fast. ZOMBIES!! Also, the skinny dipping. That blurb got me curious fast.
Tessa, I heard you silent screaming rant all the way down in Texas. *snort*
I’m about 75% in With Every Heartbeat and I am loving it. It does have that “feel.” They don’t hate each other, but like the blurb says he is the boyfriend of her roommate. There is that slow- buildup. There is angst and some laugh out loud parts, like the shower scene, “there’s something wrong with his penis…it was big…I mean the bruise, not the penis.” May not be up there with The Deal, but it’s close. 🙂
Written In Red JUST what I needed. Love the world building and characters. Love the slow build and the different perspectives from the Characters. Love this book so much read until 2am and was a zombie at work today. Thanks guys for the recomenndation can’t wait to see where this goes.
Yeah, another Others fan! *happy dance*
Fabi, I’ve no doubt you heard me. Just…argh.
Maryse – I have a special request… please don’t post a Tuesday list of new releases!!! I just bought C Hoover’s new book, and I still haven’t read The Pact, Life of Anna 3 and 4, Eleanor and Park, Big Little Lies, Fate Book 2, and I need to finish Seducing Destiny. I can’t take another list. I have no willpower. And can I stay away for a week and get these off my TBR list? Apparently not. You’re my own little Wolf Pack now.
LOL!!!! *sigh*
And I’m working on it as we speak… 😉
Finished another freebie, Blood Debt by Nancy Straight. Cute and different. Worth reading number two.
Cheryl, I moved it up on my tbr. I really enjoyed the rest of that series and her writing so I figured the new one would be good.
Yey Jennifer! Sleep deprivation goes hand in hand with that series I think 😉
Tessa, ummm that’s weird haha. I wouldn’t be able to read a book with my HS in it that’s for sure! I hope I don’t post any more objectionable books 😛
