- The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon <— expected release November 27th 2014!!! <— OMG MINE!!!!!!! She starts off the blurb saying she loses him… tells us right up front that it’s gonna hurt. Moses was a law unto himself. But he was also strange and exotic and beautiful. To be with him would change my life in ways I could never have imagined. Maybe I should have stayed away. So excited for the law of Moses! I had it on my calendar to one click this morning…so of course I did! I added alot more to my wish list today after this awesome list! Thanks!!!!
Not sure if you have listed it before, but I came across a dark read that looks pretty tempting…Flawed by Francette Phal. It has 23 reviews on Amazon with only one 4 star and the rest 5 stars!
I am so freaking excited for Thoughtful!!!!! I’ve read a few scenes from his POV before (the rain scene, the coffee shack, when he comes home after a pivotal point and sees the suitcases, a HOT scene from a “celibate” time – y’all should know what I’m talking about 😉 – and I believe a couple of other scenes), and they were titillating to say the least. To say the *very* least. 😛
If I Were You (Inside Out Series) <——- OMG, I glanced at that and totally thought at first that it said "If I Were Inside You"…LOL!!!!!!!!
Oh, and November 27th? Yeah, I think I’ll need to use some sick time seeing as how The Law of Moses will be taking up most of my time that day. *cough, cough* Yep, I feel a bug coming on that will hit me on the 27th. 😉
I have been putting off reading Effortless because I am afraid of being disappointed because I loved Thoughtless so much. I suppose I’ll have to cave. I’m in a book slump. I have started and stopped three books this week.
The Law of Moses comes out Thanksgiving Day! Perfect….. I have a 4-day weekend! I 1-clicked The Girl in 6E because I remember wanting it before!
Thoughtful…. Yep can’t wait!
Maryse, did you like Nine Minutes? I’m hearing great things!
I liked it alright… the premise was great and all, but I’m more on a 3.5 star level with it.
Definitely has a crazy twist that I didn’t see coming, that made it even better… but overall, I’ve enjoyed other MC books more.
Tracy I feel for ya. Nothing worse than a book slump. 🙁 best of luck with your next read.
OMG, First Debt is insane. I’m mentally exhausted and am only half way through. Tell me someone else is reading this insanity.
Tracy, you haven’t read Effortless? I’m so jealous! I loved Effortless. Heck, I adored the whole series. I have to admit, when I re-read the series, I actually skipped Thoughtless and went right to Effortless, because I adored the second two more than the first.
Amy I have Monster by that author but haven’t read it yet.
Moses sounds like a great holiday weekend read.
Maryse dangerous question to ask, lol. I’m voting for Written in Red, lol.
Has anyone read At Your Beck & Call? I’m thinking of reading that this weekend.
I started reading Reckless by Skye Jordan. I found it on my Kindle. I think it was a freebie I downloaded a while back and I am actually enjoying it.
Tessa – I’m so happy to know you liked Effortless even better. I may grab Debt Inheritance since it is only .99. I read the first two of her Monsters in the Dark series.
Can’t wait for Thoughtful and that cover is HOT! The Thoughtless series is one of my favorites!
Reading City of Champions. Pretty good sports star story. Also re-listening to Entwined With You in prep for Captivated by You releasing tuesday. Fun to listen to this book and quite the challenge while running. *snort*
I just went on a book binge . . . What a ride! The entire Avoiding series, Ruin 1, 2 and 3, Transcendence. I really loved them all! Transcedence was different in a very good way! I don’t know what to read next! I want a smexy Holiday read. Any recommendations? Please!
Ya know Cheryl, you could probably get some pretty good friction going while running. LOL!!!!
Tracy, Effortless and Reckless are both really good but don’t have the level or type of angst that there was in Thoughtless. To me there was just a different feel altogether with books 2 and 3…not *bad* different, just not the same as the first one.
I tried to start Love, In Spanish but I am so addicted to EIT right now! I don’t think it would be fair to Mateo to give him only part of my attention when my heart is really with Dex right now. Wow, I’m a dork. *snort*
Ooooooh Sharon…the Avoiding books and Transcendence are some of my favorites!!!
Tessa, I’m with you on First Debt – actually a little behind you, I’m only about 1/3 into it.
I also read Destroyed by Pepper Winters – really liked it. It is “grey” vs. “dark”. There is a Monsters in the Dark bundle available on iTunes – haven’t seen it yet at Amazon.
Tracy – loved Effortless every bit as much if not more than Thoughtless – Reckless, too. (but I am not as big on the love triangle angst as some are). Amy, where did you find all those Kellan POV scenes?
Just finished reading Bang earlier in the week and needed something with a conclusion (did not know it was a series and I would have to wait ahhh!
I’m going for the girl in 6e just starting wish me luck!!
Got What’s Left of Us – yeyyyy I didn’t even know there was going to be a second book! The first book was amazing and has stuck with me – really recommend!
I read the first EIT and it was ok for me. I feel like I am missing out but I was having a hard time getting into it. I may have to try again.
I think I’ll try Effortless after I am finished with my current read.
Just poured myself a glass of wine and settling in for a night of reading. I am ridiculously excited about this.
Sharon I can not really think of any off the top of my head. I have a few historical ones I meant to read last year and hopefully will this year. KA had a short story in an anthology that I liked, need to read the rest in that too. I liked A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas. I just bought a bundled Jill Shalvis Christmas book called Christmas in Lucky harbor. I also recently saw a rec for a Shannon Stacey novella Holiday Sparks.
Amy-bwahahahaha! Could help me run faster, although sometimes it makes me stumble!!
Loved EIT!! I agree it started off slow, but the story got better and better and the relationship between Dex and Perry grew (ok, got hotter) with each book.
Oh girl in 3e such a weird fantastic story I want to keep reading!!! But it’s bedtime here 🙁 night guys have fun enjoy!!
Another bargain I just saw – You: A Novel by Caroline Kepnes is on sale for 1.99. This one was fantastically creepy and was a great read – Maryse has reviewed it as well.
Hey! Have y’all read PULL yet? I did and whoa! What a book! I really loved it, but I know other people who hated it. Maryse, if you have the time to read it, I would love to know what you thought.
I read Nine Minutes and I liked it, but there was something about it that made it put-down-able for me. The twist was good, but I felt like I didn’t really know the characters as well as I should have. Does that make sense? I wanted the characters to get more in depth I guess.
I agree Melissa. I liked the story well enough, but I didn’t forge an attachment to the characters. Too much time would pass between events, it had more of a journal quality to it…
Another bargain this weekend is Beautifully Done by Riley Mackenzie. I just love every thing about this book! Asher is the main character and he knows his life is on borrowed time. And when someone from his past walks back into his life he knows he must act. It’s such a great second chance romance without a tired cliché storyline. Cover to cover this book has stayed with me and I read a lot of books. And as you see in Beautifully Done you never know what life will throw your way or how much borrowed time you have…
At $.99 it’s a steal for an amazing weekend read you won’t be able to put down.
Maryse, I just started Girl in 6E tonight!
Exactly!! You know what it was.., your journal comment made me think of it. It was like she was giving testimony. You know how people leave out a lot of details.. It was just like that.
Yep Cheryl…I just finished And With Madness Comes the Light last night and ohhhhhhh do I love Dex. And even though I want to shake Perry sometimes, I’m pretty crazy about her too!
Jackie, I remember reading them in various places (I couldn’t recall them if I tried!) but I would Google something like “Kellan Kyle POV” or whatever and see what comes up. Actually…
*searching on Google*
Yep, I just Googled that and a bunch of results popped up. Have fun!! 😀
Thanks Amy!!!
I’m on a paranormal kick right now. Trying to decide between Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews or Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs. Anyone read these??? I read Burn for me by Ilona Andrews and it was really good!
Just finished the girl in 6e wow I loved it it was amazing and the way she wrote it was amazing aswell loved loved very unique I think 5* for the layout of the story and she thought of everything would recommend to everyone!!
Niki – my vote is for Patricia Briggs, Mercy Thompson. One of my favorite urban fantasy series ever. I just loved all the characters and the world she created and the lore about werewolves is the best ever. I devour each new book when it comes out. And I love her spinoff series too, Alpha & Omega (one of Mercy characters really deserved his own series!)
Finished Love in Spanish last night! Wow, just wow! LIE and LIS may just be my favorite books of the year! Soooooo great!!!!!
Michelle S, in the last Mercy book did you wish Adam had reacted a little more strongly to their visitor? I do though I love the way Mercy handled herself.
Bev – you mean “Night Broken” ? Yes – that would have been the perfect time for some good angst – and drama. I’m just in love with Adam, so he can practically do no wrong. And I love Charles, Sam’s brother. Did you read the spinoff Alpha & Omega? I’m sure you did. The only thing I haven’t read is the book of short stories… did you? Is it worth the $$? (and for some reason, the grey lord, or whoever that fae was that stormed into the courtroom on the back of his horse – that guy – I want more of him!!!! where’d that storyline go?)
Reading Love in Spanish. Wow, happily-ever-after meets real life! *sigh*
MichelleS I’m not caught up on Alpha & Omega. I do like how romantic that series can be. I haven’t really looked at the anthology of short stories. I know I’ve read some shorts in other anthologies but have not kept track of which ones.
Since you like the Fae you might like War for the Oaks. The heroine ” finds herself drafted into an invisible war between the faerie folk”
PB has created so many great characters that I could see spin off.
My recall is bad but the Grey Lord showed up in the last book, right? For a moment.
Oh no do not catch up on Alpha and Omega Bev or you will be in the same dilemma as me since the next book comes out on the same day as Visions in Silver! I’m seriously taking that day off to just read!
I haven’t read the short stories yet but I’m on hold at my library and can let you know if they are worth it MichelleS.
Michelle, lol. I know. I already have another that comes out that day. It’s the new one in .CS Harris Sebastian St. Cyr series. It’s almost too good of a day. I wish more publishers would have books come out over holiday weekends.
Thanks for the input Michelle, Bev, and Michelle S!! I did start the first book last night!! I know I can trust your recommendations since you did lead me to Anne Bishop!! I just loved Written in Red and Murder of Crows!! If you have any other paranormal favorites please let me know!!
Whoot!!! Another Anne Bishop fan.
I just checked out the CS Harris website to figure out the first book in that series you mentioned Bev and it says as a descriptor, “Think Mr. Darcy with a James Bond edge…” Umm where has this series been hiding and yes please! You are killing me with these amazing recs…but keep ’em coming 😀
Yesss Niki join the Anne Bishop love fest! Either of those series are guaranteed amazing reads…literally guaranteed 🙂 I do have a smidgen more love for the Kate Daniels series though and probably unlike others, I like the Alpha and Omega series by Briggs more than Mercy. Both are amazing but I just fell in love with Charles and Anna! More paranormal favorites…how much time and money do you have haha…no seriously I’ve been pushing two lesser known series that made my favorites list for this year. AJ Aalto’s Marnie Baranuik Files and Sara King’s Guardians of the First Realm. If there is something specific you are looking for just ask and I think between the ‘other Michelle’ (lol I get to call you that now :P) and Bev we have got ya covered!
Michelle I really enjoy the Harris series though it was a slow start for me. I read the first and then a couple years later started it again and now hooked.
I’m seriously going to have to try an Illona Andrews book soon. I have the Sara King one after you mentioned it.
So, I had the hallmark channel on in the background, makes me want to read holiday books, and notice the character doing a tradition to dream of the man she will spend the rest of her life with. I had to look this up. Apparently in Austria it was thought that if a single woman climbed in bed using a stool then took off her shoes and threw them at the door with the toes pointing down and then slept with her feet on the pillow at the head of the bed she would dream of the man, lol. You do this on St.Thomas day, which is Dec 21.
I’d probably dream of a book character.
Mambo Maryse. *giggle* That’s freaking awesome. 😉
I’m a mambo!! 😛
MichelleS bev I just may aswell ask u both what I’m reading next lol so I also haven’t was the mercy Thompson books I’m going to check them out u 2 always come up with these series I haven’t read!
Wow, Laura you have read through a lot of series lately. I have so many to catch up on or even start. Mercy is a wonderful character.
MichelleS & Michelle, I love her relationship with Bran and wish we could have more scenes of them together.
Bev, my library has only the first Harris book but hopefully they will get the rest. They had War for the Oaks but I didn’t borrow yet since I have another pile of loans to get through this week. I’m reading The Sweet Gum Tree today and I adore it so far. Oh and totally agree about Mercy – love Bran and in Alpha and Omega too.
Michelle, I *loved* Sweet Gum Tree!! That book had me all twisted up but more so from emotion rather than angst. I swear, there was one part where I wanted to kick and scream and throw a temper tantrum just so things would be different than how they were. ‘Cause I’m odd like that. 😉
You have to keep a running commentary/update on it…ya know, because I said so and all. 😛
Haha Amy well I haven’t thrown a tantrum yet but I just got into it. If you say so I will update yes ma’am 😛 Are you still immersed in Dex and Perry land?
Michelle, Sweet Gum Tree is a wonderful read
A nice choice for a Sunday afternoon. I haven’t used my library’s ebook collection yet.
Amy is Mambo Maryse the character that .KH named for Maryse? I read your comment and thought Maryse does ballroom dancing?
What is Maryse reading?
Yep Michelle, I am in Dex & Perry land both literally and figuratively. 😉 I can’t remember the last time I read this many books in a series back to back. Usually I end up splitting them up with other books, but I haven’t read anything else since finishing Dead Sky Morning…even Love, In Spanish couldn’t pull me away, and I love Mateo! Oh, and my tantrum during SGT wasn’t from being mad…it was a crying tantrum. *sigh* I seriously loved that book.
Bev, I’m *assuming* the character was named after Maryse…even though the character in Come Alive hasn’t been very much like our sweet Maryse as of yet! 😉 As soon as I read “Mambo” that crazy song came to mind, and then Dex had to go and mention the song which made it even worse, but then he sang a line of it to Perry with her name in it and *swoooooon* …have I mentioned how much I love Dex???
Amy when I get a song in my head I usually have to listen to it to stop it, lol. The last one was Lucky One by Allison Krause. I can’t remember what put it in my head but had to YouTube it. Now will probably have to again, lol. In a few days I’ll probably.be picking up DSM and ffinishing it.
I forgot I had two of the Kristen Proby Seattle series from KU so reading those today. Don’t think I’ll keep up with the series after this but easy, fun, fast reads.
Yeah bev if I get sucked in I just keep going lol I can read a book a day but some days it’s a bit slower but if I’m into it I keep going lol I’m loving the 1st mercy book btw u and michelleS will have to make a list of all paranormal sort of series u have read as that has been the highlanders now this that I have missed so I’m not doin to good on my own lol
Maryse, I just finished “Lilith” by Kelli Maine and it was excellent.
Very dark, and very descriptively erotic. It does end on a MAJOR cliffy with book 2 out Dec 1. It was also very short, def novella length which I didn’t realize when I started it or I would have waited for book 2.
But you should def check it out when you’re in the mood for a dark, erotic read!!
The Sweet Gum Tree really is fantastic – why was this on my tbr for so long? Some of the things Alix says has me giggling. I love the characters too.
Amy Queau’s The Progress Series (3 books) are on sale for .99 each. This series is wonderful and it seems not as well known but it deserves to be!
BRAN – who said Bran? I love that guy. One of the best werewolves ever written. So look up “Mathias Lauridsen” in google – THAT’S my Bran!!! To be so quietly commanding and powerful… and how he’s Sam and Charles’ dad? And how he protected Mercy? Oh – so jealous of whoever is reading this for the first time. Having a little moment here…… I wish he had his own book – sigh –
….. hiding behind the sofa….. I never read Sweet Gum Tree….. stupid grin…. should I have?
Hmmm something is up with Hugh in TSGT…he is way too calm about Alix’s situation after Nick. I don’t like it I tell you!
Love Bran but my heart belongs to Charles – I can’t explain it but just major swoon for me!
MichelleS, I would LOVE a Bran book. I so wish a certain part of his life was happier. Yeah, I kind of love how every one can see how Bran feels about Mercy except for Mercy. I love when a book or a series explores more than just the romantic relationship.
Yes you should read it. I think it would be right up your alley.
I do have to say if you are a fan of Sweet Gum Tree to try A Place to Call Home.
Michelle, I like with Charles how we get Charles’s pov and so see how hard he falls. Also, I love the care taking alpha type hero. He is the big bad scary yet so gentle with her.
Noooooo at 52%…not expecting that! The way it’s delivered too, just reading along and wait, back up…reread…:(
Yes MichelleS, you should have!!! Some angst (low to mid for me) but mostly it is an emotional read. If I remember correctly, I read it in two or three sittings. So at the risk of sounding like a bossy pants…just read it already!!!! 😉
Michelle, I just got a lump in my throat remembering that part. It was so blindsiding. And you’re right about the delivery of it…just so matter of fact and yet powerful in it’s simplicity. If taken out of context it would appear to be “telling instead of showing” but it’s really not, and I think the way it was delivered is what made it such a sledgehammer-to-the-chest type of moment. I had to re-read that part too ’cause I thought I had read it wrong.
So I am squirreling – Abduction – it’s just non-stop sex at this point. It’s so well written and I want to know how this all plays out – but, I have been online shopping instead of finishing it. I think I just needed a break from the back-to-back sex scene! How’s everyone else doing with it?
I’m only at 40% with it MichelleS. I’ve taken several breaks away from it. In fact, been watching tv all day, which I never do. How far along are you?
Just finished Abduction and yes, MichelleS, I agree…. I was struggling to finish and just wanted to get to the end at one point. Definitely not as good as After which has really stuck with me.
Oh and I haven’t read Sweet Gum Tree either…..
I’m at 68% Fabi. I WANT to finish. I want to love it. I like this author so much. I am just struggling with the back to back scenes with nothing ELSE happening.
And Jean – and On the Island…. don’t forget that one! 🙂
Oooo Michelle thanks for that reminder. May be just what I need after Abduction. I was just sitting here trying to figure out what to read next!
I do love Krylov’s writing style and will still read her other books eventually.
Jean did you read any of the previews of her other ones?
Amy, it made me giggle when i read the Mambo Maryse. You’re right she’s not the Maryse we know!
* I haven’t read Sweet Gum Tree either but with the comments about it, I think I need to*
re-reading Entwined with You in preparation for Captivated by You FINALLY being released tomorrow!!! 😉
A question for you ladies that read or are reading Abduction. I’m at 46%. At this point it’s like a freaky kind of therapy session. Does the story turn, surprise, or otherwise throw anything new into the plot after this point? I need to know because I’m borderline dnf. I’ve been reading since Friday and as you can tell it doesn’t hold my attention for long before I put it down for a while so I’m feel like I’m not getting far fast. Advice please. 🙂
Fabi – at 46% – how many people are in the cabin? because that’s the only thing new that was added to the point where I am (68%)
Three at this point. Conrad, Vaughn and her. hmmm another 20+% with nothing substantially new…not sure I can finish. At least not before the end of the year. Hahaha
Fabi, it was almost a dnf for me too (and I never do that), but things did take an unexpected turn in my opinion.
Hmmm ok. Maybe I’ll finish.
Not saying it was a great turn, but unexpected nonetheless! I still struggled trying to finish it.
I started On the Island last night!!!!
Dangit!!! I just remembered why I haven’t read On the Island yet even though I bought it…I read a spoiler by accident and know *exactly* how it ends. *grumble* Why is it we sometimes can’t remember what we need to and yet can remember the things we would like to forget?? Ugh.
Amy I’d still encourage you to read it. With this book I don’t think it spoils anything. I don’t think the ending is a twist or surprising. It is really about the journey to it. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Lol Amy, that sucks! Not that far into it, but can’t imagine how it will all play out especially with the age difference.
Ohhh I was in emotional upheaval over The Sweet Gum Tree! I finished last night and it’s a definite 5 star read for me – why did I wait so long to read it! Amy I had several crying tantrums! Whew ok after such a satisfying read now where do I go? I have Jodi Picoult’s Leaving Time and might go with that…or Natasha Boyd’s Eversea? Bev, I haven’t forgot about The Resistance but I figured later this week.
Ok Abduction…well I digested it and my problem is completely with the storyline and the small tangents it took to get nowhere in my opinion. I thought maybe I was being obtuse about it because she often writes scenarios that take a lot of thought as a mentioned to capture them fully. I loved the writing and the character development – I for sure felt what they were feeling but I couldn’t find purpose in many plot points including sexual encounters (not all of them) and the eventual outcome was dissastisfying. I always finish a book so a dnf is not an option and I honestly wanted to see where it ended up…it does take a surprising turn…one which bothered me the most concerning the plot. Oh I hate to do it but this is a 2.5 star for me factoring in the writing even. It doesn’t touch After on a good day but I’m still undeterred and will read more of her works since when they do come together they are fantastic.
Michelle, sounds good. Eversea has been sitting in my library for awhile so will be curious as to what you think if you go that route.
Michelle, I completely agree with all your comments about Abduction….a little disappointing.
I’ve had Eversea on my list forever too!
Thanks for all the input guys. I appreciate the help. I hate to dnf but I don’t want to struggle for days on end getting through a book when I have so many great ones waiting in my tbr.
Still would like to know if y’all read the previews at the end what you thought of them.
I’m not done with this author either.
My experience with her writing so far is
Bad Things *****
Dangerously Happy ****
After ***1/2
Abduction dnf (for now)
I’m keeping in mind that I’m moving backward through her books and writing experience.
I think the newest King’s book is next for me. A few of you read and gave great feedback for it.
Yeah you started at a high point with her Fabi so that has to make it harder. I gave After 4.25 stars since it was my first for this author and I loved it. I still think there is more to the story I’m probably not seeing with Abduction but imo I shouldn’t have to try this hard to make it coherent. I did enjoy the journal taking on almost another character in the story – somewhat allegorical in nature.
I’m actually going to go with another long time tbr since that turned out so well with TSGT and start Consequences by Aleatha Romig.
I think the Romig one I’m going to delete. I’ve sstarted it a few times but if honest I’m not going to ever finish it.
Oh no Bev really but I’ve heard such good things about it. Well I’m all about forming my own opinions so here I go anyway…
I haven’t read the previews yet Fabi. And Michelle, I haven’t read the Consequences series yet either, but need to stick with a couple light reads after Abduction.
Started The Sweet Gum Tree. I’m at about 48% and already crying! I’m scared how this is going to play out, and apprehensive with earlier comments about something happening at 52%.
OMG I just read the part at 52%; it was delivered so matter of factly that my brain couldn’t at first comprehend what I had just read. *crying again*
Michelle, it was my answer to one of the tbr questions that Maryse put up and just got me thinking of books I’ve held onto. Yes people love it and sounds like it has tons of twist and WTF moments. If I remember it wasn’t the writing it was the set up & how it plays out. I was spoiled too.
Okay, okay…I will start On the Island at some point soon. 😉 I have Eversea and the sequel (Forever Jack, I think?) as well. Is that another buddy read for us, Jean??
Michelle, how about that part in the barn with the pendant when Alix unloaded on Nick? Oh, my freaking heart. I actually sobbed a bit at that part. It was a great read though, wasn’t it?
Here Cheryl, I know how much you need this right now… *hands stuffed manatee to Cheryl* Need a hug, too? *opens arms*
Poor Cheryl, I don’t know if all the comments are making me want to read Sweet Gum Tree or avoid it.
Would love to read Eversea…… but I think I’m going to read Motorcycle Man next because bev ordered me to…..she’s a little bossy!! Lol!
Oohh Cheryl I feel your pain! Wasn’t it delivered in a way that made it worse – it was just BAM!
Oh lord Amy the barn scene with the pendant…the scene in the hardware store…the cemetery…oh it’s endless how many heart lurches I had. I think I might read Eversea after my current read and then The Resistance if y’all are thinking of more buddy reads.
Consequences is going to be an uphill climb for me since I agree Bev, the setup is not my favorite…
Jean, I am being bossy today! Jean read this, Amy read that. Lol.
Michelle, it seems like the reviews are pretty strong for and against, which can usually mean an interesting read either way.
Okay if you guys are all going to read Eversea together, let me know when. I wouldn’t want to miss out on reading it with all of you! And I remember Maryse having it on her TBR…… it’d be great if she joined us! Maryse?
Jean – I’m with you on the comments for Sweet Gum Tree. Ever since I read Carnage my tolerance for pain is non existent. Although I’m reading Effortless right now and wishing for more drama. I suppose I better be careful about what I wish for.
Consequences was so so for me.
Lol Tracy! I get it…. Thoughtless wrecked me, stomach pains and all! Didn’t think I could handle any more books with that kind of angst but it appears I now thrive for it! Haha!
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen is on sale for 1.99. I read this when it came out and really liked it.
On book 2 of mercy Thompson and I got under the blanky at Littleton at the window of the trailer! I am such a wuss!
Garden Spells was a sweet read.
I just downloaded a thanksgiving novella called Apples Should Be Red that is on sale. Looks different than what I read, so curious.
Laura I can’t remember that scene, been too long. Mercy definitely has some very hard times coming up. Broke my heart.
*sing-songy voice* Bev is a bossy pants! 😛
Jean and Tracy, this may be a little spoilery so I’m putting a warning in case you or anyone else wants to skip it, but I don’t want anyone to miss out on how wonderful Sweet Gum Tree is for fear of having your heart obliterated. So…
*****POSSIBLE SPOILER*****
It will break your heart, make you cry and make you wish things were different for the characters, but it will ultimately put your heart back together and soothe the ache even though there *will* be some deep scars.
*****END OF POSSIBLE SPOILER*****
SGT has some angst but for me it was more from just not knowing how everything was going to work out. It was, however, a very, very emotional read punctuated with heartwrenching situations that were simply out of the characters’ control. It wasn’t really an issue of non-communication or ridiculous misunderstandings but more of just Nick and Alix making the best decisions they could given what info they had at certain times. Their choices made my heart hurt for them (and me!), but I could see *why* they did what they did.
I’m pretty sure y’all are familiar enough with how I gauge angst and emotion by now, so you will understand what it means when when I say it was not the most angsty I have read but is definitely up there as far as one of the most *emotional* books I have read. I *think* Maryse has reviewed it (correct me if I am wrong anyone?) so you could check that out, too. Which is something I should do as well, right? 😉
Daaaaaaaang…I was pretty long-winded above, right? 😉
On another note, I get to start Ashes to Ashes this evening! Yay me!!! 😀
Since I’m wearing my bossy pants I’m again going to mention A Place to Call Home for all the SGT lovers and just in general cause good book.
Ok, my Lucy Van Pelt moment is over……..Amy, I have this football…..lol
*snort* I just had an image of me trying to kick a football and landing on my back like Charlie Brown.
And I would expect you to laugh your a$$ off at me ’cause that *would* be pretty flippin’ funny to see!
A Place To Call Home is one of my all time favorite reads! I just loved that book. So I guess I’ll be one clicking Sweet Gum Tree.
Who is APTCH written by? I looked it up and there are quite a few…
Amy, thanks for the manatee and the hug!!! I’m not finished with TSGT yet, so I have a feeling I may need to hang on to the manatee a little longer. 😉
Michelle, yes there was no lead-in or time to adjust, you’re right it was just BAM!
Jean, it’s emotional and it hurts at times, but it’s so good!!!
I loved Eversea and Forever, Jack. Not the level of angst of Thoughtless, but definitely some angst.
Deborah Smith. Read it years before SGT. You’ll notice similarity but each has its own style. I think. Been so long but APTCH always stayed with me. Have been meaning to maybe re read.
Man – I missed everything! I am determined to finish Abduction. I think I’m in the 80% + somewhere. It got a little better. It has some seriously abrupt scene changes. And the smut fest continues. Why I am continuing this train wreck??
So, Sweet Gum tree will be next for me. Hope it’s still bargain priced.
Eversea? I have borrowed that book twice now and got started and then chased down another read until my loan ended. Could not get into it! If you do a group read I may try again.
Maybe I’ll read On The Island with you, Jean + Amy – I LOVED that book, and know I will probably love it even more the second time around.
Amy & Michelle have a question. I was just reading a recap of the last Walking Dead ep and the author is a Daryl/ Carol shipper. She was very happy with the tension & chemistry. Do you ladies feel that between them?
I started the show after the first season and so knew of this ship before hand. Watching I could see the potential. Now, from the few I’ve seen, the chem doesn’t feel as romantic. I thought Carol had more with Tyrese.
Honestly doubt they are going to let Daryl have a relationship.
I LOVED On the Island you guys!! Loved! Took me out of my book funk from Abduction! Great story!!!
MichelleS, Sweet Gum Tree is still 0.99!! Grab it!!! Obviously I’m on a SGT love fest right now (*giggle* it looks like I’m saying “sergeant” love fest :P).
I’m definitely going to have to read On the Island soon. By the time I finish Dust to Dust this week, I will have spent about two weeks with Dex and Perry…I’m already feeling sad about finishing the series. 🙁 BUT, I did read that there will be a spinoff series about Ada! *twirling around with head thrown back* And even though she will be 17 in it, KH said it will *not* be YA. 😀
Bev, maybe I was just oblivious during Sunday’s WD episode but I didn’t feel that with Daryl and Carol. I’ve always loved the connection they have, though I have seen it more as platonic. For as much as I crave lovin’ in my books, I’ve never really been interested in seeing it in WD…I just love the comradery between the characters as they try to survive.
Seriously, imagine Daryl 15 years younger and with an Irish accent…that’s him in Boondock Saints. Ovaries ——> BOOM!!!!!!
Thanks for the info on SGT Amy….. didn’t know it was on sale….I just 1-clicked it! I can’t believe you read the entire EIT series without squirreling. I’m impressed!
Oh and I started Motorcycle Man today!
Jean keep us updated on MM. I think overall it is probably a lighter faster read than your last two.
Amy I love the whole friends to family type arcs. WD does that so well. Would love to see that type of arc in some of the books I read. Especially with all the different combos like Michonne & Carl. Or Tyrese when he said he’d do anything for Judith.
Its funny for as much as I love my hea books I tend to like darker shows that don’t lend themselves to them like WD, Mad Men, or Justified.
Bev, I felt an intimacy between Carol and Daryl but it didn’t feel romantic. I think that’s where they are trying to take it though but it would be icky at least in my eyes haha.
Yes everyone get TSGT especially if it on sale because Amy and I say so 😛
Glad you read OTI Jean – I really loved that one as well!
My current read however makes me want to scream literally and throw things. Consequences is hugely frustrating for me! I really hate both of the characters and I’m almost done with book 1 and still have no idea how this can be a series and what you can possibly get out of it. Still, with this level of craziness it is inducing in me, I want to find out. I seriously may keep reading the next book…god help my nerves…
Tack is a total JERK! But I’m loving him….. Lol! (Only in books, only in books…. Haha)!
Jean yes, yes he is.
It’s funny I was just listening to some one talk about how they are not always given enough page time to get over something the hero does or reveals. Even if it jumps ahead in time in the book it’s just a few pages.
This happens with KA sometimes. I’m still upset and trying to take it in and think it through but two sentences later the heroine is comforting the hero.
I love KA but sometimes I’m like can’t the heroine and take a walk, get some air, and think, lol.
Jean – yay – I just knew you’d love On The Island. What’s not to love? The perfect girly romance novel. And Motorcycle Man? Woo hoo. Tack is great. After that I went a little motorcycle dude nuts, thanks to Tack. I love his kids too. They have a spinoff series, Chaos series…. so more to love, more to read! This was the KA that I fell in love with.
I’m off to read Sweet Gum Tree. Can’t wait.
Yes everyone get TSGT especially if it on sale because Amy and I say so 😛 <——- Yeah, what she said. 😉
Bev…Tyrese is a big ol' softie but then goes crazy when he needs to. And when he cuddles baby Judith? Ohhhhh…love that guy.
I know, Jean! I've stuck with EIT…what the heck is up with that?!? The last time I squirreled was while reading book 3, Dead Sky Morning, to read Nocte. Since then I have been reading EIT back to back! Dex takes some getting used to because of his quirks, but once I did get used to him I fell totally and completely for him. This line cracked me up from Darkhouse…
"
Hang on…I hit submit too soon. 😕
“Slowly, he opened his mouth and stuck out his tongue…Jesus. Who was this guy?…Dex looked back at Jesse, slowly put his tongue back into his mouth, and casually extended his middle finger at him.”
LOL!!!! Something about that whole scene hit me as funny. 😉
Amy – I am not sure what happened with me and EiT…. I got to the middle of book 8 – the one where they go to that haunted school – maybe it was the timing, maybe I had other must reads… i don’t know why I didn’t finish. Now I know I have to finish that and then read the LAST in the series Dust to Dust. Has anyone gotten that far? I know I need to…. I just never seem to be in the mood for it. And I am a HUGE Karina Halle fan and an even bigger fan of Dex & Perry. What’s up with that?
“After that I went a little motorcycle dude nuts, thanks to Tack.”
O.M.G. I totally thought that “went” was “want”…as in “After that I *want* a little motorcycle dude nuts.” BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
I’m on EIT book 8 (Ashes to Ashes) so I’ll let you know what I think. Because I just know you’ll be waiting with bated breath for my opinion. *snort* Riiiiiiiiiight. 😉 But I really *do* want to hear what you think of Sweet Gum Tree! 🙂
Omigod. Who has read Consequences…seriously I’m sitting here sputtering… Do I need to continue with the series or will I completely go out of my mind? I would like someone *cough* Tony to to have a fatal ‘accident’ and for Claire to be admitted to a psych ward…
Amy – I’m only at 18% with Sweet Gum Tree but it is perfection. Just love the characters and the slow, Southern town, and Nick… I just know he’s gonna break her heart and I’m all in…. 99 cents? Best deal ever!!!
Motorcycle dude nuts….. I am still laughing!!!!!
*snort* I’m right there with ya, Jean, in laughing about the motorcycle dude nuts!!! 😛
MichelleS, it’s gonna get even better. 😉
I nearly finished Sweet Gum Tree last night. It’s definitely one of those one-sitting-devour-it books. I’ll finish tonight. Just love it. And for anyone that hasn’t read the historical by K Ranney called Tapestry – it has the same feelings as SGT. Young, innocent love from afar. Determined, spirited woman/girl. Obstacles, obstacles, obstacles getting in the way. That same lump in your throat. And I think it’s bargain priced right now too. I used to say it was Painted Faces meets Pride & Prejudice… well, add a big dollop of Sweet Gum Tree to that description.
Jean and Amy – I am pretty sure Motorcycle Dude Nuts is an official diagnosis, so quit yer’ laughin’….. And if you look at my Kindle, you’ll see that after Tack’s book I INDEED went a little nuts…. but that’s how I found the brilliant M. Sheehan. Speaking of Tack-parts…. you know what I loved best about Tack? I HEARD his voice in my head. All rumbly and resonant. That’s what I remember best. Got a cocktail for that one, Amy?
Haha MichelleS!!! No one does motorcycle dude nuts like M Sheehan!!!
Why, yes MichelleS…yes I do:
https://imbibemagazine.com/Rumble-Recipe
Jean… *snicker* M. Sheehan “does” motorcycle dude nuts? LOL!!!!
Lol Amy, I can’t stop laughing. I really need to reread my comments before they make it to the “Amy filter”!!!!!
Jean, now why would ya wanna do that and ruin my fun?!? 😉
MichelleS, how did you do at *that* part, the one that seemed to come out of nowhere but packed a whollop right to the gut?
See Jean, you’re missing out on a good one…need I remind you of your reluctance to read Love, In English? Huh? Huh??
I know, i know, i should have listened to you guys. I did download SGT. Maybe I’ll read that next after Motorcycle Man. Hmmm…….
Amy – what part is “that” part – I think I know what you mean – but my belly has been in knots a lot over this one – but there is that one heartbreak that is just too much………. I mean WHY? The only part I didn’t like was the giant time gap (fast fwd 15 year???? huh?). Gimme a little of the in-between-trouble too. I guess it didn’t need it, but I like the story so much, I’d put up with filler.
So…. what’s next? That was an awesome recommendation.
*cough* A Place to Call Home *cough*
Jean, I don’t want to be bossy so remind Amy of her reluctance to read On The Island.
Bev – “A Place to Call Home” – yielded 55 matches on amazon!!! argh…. I don’t want to end up with the wrong one…. who is the author?
Oh Jean – Sweet Gum Tree was just fabulous. So sweet and achy – full of lemonade and home-cooked meals on the farm – and busy-body aunts – it just had that THING – that quality that is the exact right balance of romance and sweetness and angst under a backdrop of a Mayberry town! You just gotta read it. They were ALL right about this one.
MichelleS Deborah Smith. I’m happy you guys would even look it up. I just noticed that some of your names are popping up on my auto correct, lol.
OK, you’ve convinced me on SGT, but I hate huge time gaps like you mentioned. Still reading MM.
And yes Amy, you MUST read On the Island….. I am still thinking about it days later….. it was great!
Jean, tell Bev that I *am* going to read On the Island but I have to finish up with Dex and Perry. *smirking at Bev* Kidding, Bev!! Luffs! I do plan on reading APTCH as well. 😉
Oh, and I know time gaps can be irritating at times but fortunately there is not too much that happens during the time gap in SGT, and the time gap is summed up pretty well when things pick back up years later.
APTCH? what the?
Thanks for the author’s name, Bev…. checking it out now….
Amy – you are going to be SO SORRY when you are the LAST ONE to read On the Island, and that you will have missed this goodness for YEARS. She’s in her 30’s. His teacher. He’s like 16 or 17. And had cancer. And there marooned on an island. Alone. All alone….. this doesn’t tempt you? Blue Lagoon meets Surviving Raine….. !!!!!
there? holy mother of god…… grammar police…. THEY’RE marooned on an island…. don’t judge me…..
Amy I’ll join you with On The Island so I don’t end up being the lone wolf left out. Just let me know whenever you get around to it. 🙂
MichelleS, grammar police? Oh no, no, no, hun…around here you get the Grammar Dom. 😛
And APTCH is A Place to Call Home. *giggle*
Haaa Amy – that’s a good one
You will, Fabi? Yay!!
Ya hear that, MichelleS?? *pbltt* <—— that's me blowing raspberries at you!
Yeah, Fabi…Grammar Dom uses a paddle, too. *waggling eyebrows*
ooooh – I just read the amazon blurb for APTCH, and it sounds very much like SGT. Too much, actually. I will have to save that for later, since I literally just read SGT. I downloaded the sample so I won’t forget. It’s not YA is it? That first review had YA? from School Library Journal. Is this a book teens read? surely not…
If you read On the Island let me know. I’m in…. love it so much…. I could go back for seconds….
Amy I wasn’t laughing at SOA. I still do not have the courage to watch last season yet. The scene that broke my heart was the one when Jax and guys watching Opie. Came to the show when it started its 4th season & same thing binged watched 3 season’s in as many weeks.
MichelleS yes a lot alike but APTCH came first by like a decade or more. No not YA though the heroine is only like 5 when the story starts. When I read SGT I did keep getting confused thinking I’d read It. When or if anyone reads APTCH let me know as I’ve always wanted to do a re read.
Bev! You need to watch last season! I won’t lie, the very end of the last episode is awful (not awful as in bad, just awful because of what happens) but still…just watch it.
This season has just been a series of clusterf%$ks, and in this week’s episode everything finally came out. *clutching chest*
