I’m still in “moving-mode” (to my new house) so I’m still sort of… popping in and out of here (and in and out of my books). But it’s been soooooooo nice to sit and prepare this list and catch up with all of the latest book news. I miss my books and I miss reading for hours, especially considering today’s list. It’s exceptionally awesome looking. Some GREAT looking new releases, and some extremely excited recommendations.
Like… that one up there to the left. Prisoner.Β Ohhhh ominous cover and OMG THAT BLURB!!! SHE falls for a dangerous prisoner… Eeeeeep! And while I’m on a dark kick,Β SociopathΒ andΒ InsidiousΒ are BOTH getting great reviews. And then there’sΒ Here With MeΒ (her presumed-dead husband comes back and realizes she’s engaged to his brother *gasp*!!!) andΒ BeholdenΒ because it’s the apparently the “relief” to book #1 (Beloved) that freaked some out with a WTF ending! So that must mean I’m gonna love ’em. π Oh and RiotΒ (another bad-guy MC prisoner romance blurb that made me eeeep!). Plus… there are plenty more to peruse, below (including next week’s pre-orders!!)
P.S.Β Let me know if Iβm missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S.Β Also, while these bargain finds and new releases βlookβ great (and/or have awesome reviews and recommendations), unless I have my own personal review link next to it, I likely havenβt read it myselfβ¦ I just found it and wanted to share itΒ in caseΒ itβs awesome. So if you read it, let me know if itβs awesome. LOL!Β
NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order.
Todays latest reader recommendations and bargain ebook finds:
- Prisoner (Criminals & Captives Book 1)Β by Skye Warren &Β Annika MartinΒ <— JUST RELEASED and this is one of my FAV dark authors!!!! Oh WOW!!! That blurb totally jolted me! Eeeeeep!!! “He seethes with raw power the first time I see himβpure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. Heβs dangerous. Heβs wild. Heβs the most beautiful thing Iβve ever seen.Β So I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets too. Then he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and itβs getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night I canβt stop thinking about him in his cell.Β But that’s the thing about an animal in a cage–you never know when he’ll bite.“
- Sociopath: A Dark RomanceΒ by Lime Craven <— JUST RELEASED DARK READ!!! This blurb got me when it was still on preorder and it’s finally out! Sounds like WAY too much dark fun and I want in!!! Here With Me (The Archer Brothers Book 1)Β byΒ Heidi McLaughlin <— JUST RELEASED!! This is another blurb that got me a couple of days ago when it was still on pre-order! OHHH the angst sounds delicious!!! She thinks her military husband is dead, and eventually falls in love with his brother. BUT!!! He comes back and…”…After serving on a special mission with the military for six years, Evan Archer returns home to find the unthinkable β the love of his life, Ryley Clarke β engaged to his brother, Nate.”Β <—- *blink blink* WOW!!! Ilsa says: “Maryse, I don’t normally post about books I really dig, but holy hell, I stumbled across a vampire book by a British author Lindsay J. Pryor. Only when the confrontation is over and the voluptuous blonde turns eyes filled with desire to him, does Adam realize heβs in trouble.“
- Claimed by YouΒ byΒ Melissa Toppen <— JUST RELEASED!! “…when Scarlett agrees to fly across the country to be a bridesmaid in the wedding of her high school best friend, her plan is simple. Get in, get out. Should be easy enough.Β What Scarlett doesn’t expect is to come face to face with the first man she ever loved. The man who took her innocence and then broke her heart. The man, that to this day, no other man has been able to live up to.“
- UnlockedΒ byΒ H.C. Brown <— JUST RELEASED!! M/M erotica! “When Delano Briggs, BDSM club owner and volunteer firefighter, is called to aid in the evacuation of a burning New York hotel, he thinks it’s just another job…“

- Falling Star (A Jersey Girl Novel)Β byΒ Laura DeLuca <— JUST RELEASED FAMOUS ACTOR ALERT! “…she meets a West Coast hunk who has no trouble winning her heart. But Lainey only knows him as Drew, not the Oscar-nominated actor who’s constantly scandalized in the tabloids.“
- I Need You: HarperImpulse New Adult RomanceΒ byΒ Jane LarkΒ <— JUST RELEASED (book #3) and it sounds like an angsty love triangle! I tried only skimming the blurb to get an “idea”. π
- I Found You: HarperImpulse New Adult RomanceΒ byΒ Jane Lark <— here’s book #1… “She’s running from life, he’s running toward it. But compassion urges him to help her.Β His offer of a place to stay leads to friendship and trouble. There’s his fiancΓ©e back home in Oregon and a family who just don’t trust this girl from the wrong side of the tracks.“
Beholden (The Belonging Duet #2)Β byΒ Corinne Michaels <— JUST RELEASED and Kandace is very excited about this one! She says: “OMGGGGG! I just saw “Beholden” by Corrine Micheals went live today. If you read the first book Beloved you will understand my excitement because the author was not nice and left us with a WTF ending. I truly loved Jackson and Catherine. Mourning the loss of her husband and she eventually meets someone. “…she agrees to a no-strings affair with him for the two weeks heβs in town, he swears heβll walk away when their time is up. Assured she can test the waters of a new life while keeping her vow never to betray her husbandβs memory by opening her heart to another, Althea throws herself into the escape Griffen provides her.”
- Heavy: A Contemporary RomanceΒ byΒ J. C. Mells <— On sale!! Tattoo artist meets socialite… “…she’s everything Thatch is NOT looking for in a potential soul mate. If he were looking for one at all, that is. California has a secret she’s ashamed of. She perpetuates the media image of party-girl-gone-wild, only because it covers the real and ugly truth.“
- Surviving UsΒ by Erin Noelle <— RECENT RELEASE that I missed just a few days ago. Toski says: “Loved this story. Two survivors. A beautiful NA story about healing and learning to love again” Sounds good! “When Bristol Criswell travels to St. Lucia for an Enduring Life retreat, she hopes to discover encouragement and support from like souls. A vacation fling is the furthest thing from her mind, especially not with a cocky-mouthed, arrogant jerk like Davis McKay…“
Away (The Keaton Series Book 1)Β by B.A. Wolfe <— Trisha highly recommends it! “I just finished the sequel to this amazing debut novel. - Dead Serious (Hard Rock Roots Book 6)Β byΒ C.M. Stunich <— Another recent release that I missed, and I know many were following this series!
- Missionary Position (Modern Love Stories Book 3)Β by Daisy Prescott <— On sale and Kandace recommends it! “A while ago I read ‘Missionary Position’ by Daisy Prescott and really liked it. It’s currently on sale until October 27. This book is really different from the usual. I love it! I found myself reading the entire book with a big smile on my lips. I would highly recommend this story if you need a change up from the dark edge angst books. Daisy’s writing is really witty and the banter between her characters is fantastic. Missionary Position as an “Eat, Pray, Love” with a mix a little “Frenched” by Melanie Harlow vibe to it. I’ve read all this author’s book and PM is hands down my favorite. The pace is a little faster than her previous books.“
- Insidious (Tales From the Dark Side)Β by Aleatha Romig <— This DARK READ is back on the this list, ’cause our fellow readers are loving it! Clarissa says: “Maryse you have to read Aleatha Romig’s new book Insidious. It is mind blowing. This book is so full of twists and turns that you are on the edge of your seat the whole time. You’ll love it!” and Joy is freaking out! “I just finished Insidiousβ¦ Have you had a chance to read it yet??? I need therapy!!! I need to talk to someone about this!!! HELP!!!” AND!! Ela just made a support group in the spoiler forum to chat. She says:Β Anyone reading or read Insidious byΒ Aleatha RomigΒ please join spoiler thread!Β https://talk.maryse.net/threads/insidious-by-aleatha-romig.5978/Β …Β I NEED ANSWERS!!!!!” <— LOL!!!! π
- Bite Me (Bitten Book 1)Β by C.C. Wood <— sounds like fun (and lots of great reviews)!! Full length book, too! “…I met the beautiful and enigmatic Conner Savage. But there was just one little problemβ¦he said he was a vampire. Figures a man that hot would be batsh!t crazy. Or so I thought. It didn’t take me long to realize that Conner wasn’t a nut job and that I was addicted to him. With every moment we spent together he drew me deeper into his world and the supernatural culture in which he lived.Β Now I had a choice: the vampire I craved or a normal life. Couldn’t be easier, right?“
- His (A Dark Erotic Romance Novel)Β byΒ Aubrey Dark <— Dark read that gave me a blurb jolt (released a few days ago), He’s a serial killer! Eeeeeep!! “When I followed him home, I was just playing Nancy Drew. Trying to find out his secret. His kiss was intoxicating, and I thought he was harmless.Β I was wrong.”
- Riot (Predators MC Book 1)Β byΒ Jamie BegleyΒ <— Another recent release that I missed a few days ago… OOOOOH!!!! This sounds good!! “As a teacher, Iβm supposed to want to educate those who want to learn, right? Thatβs what I believed until I was told Iβd have to teach a class at the prison. I didnβt move to a town labeled as one of the safest places in America only to be faced with a bunch of Predators.Β He expects me to trust him despite being the reason Iβm trapped in the middle of a prison riot. His club means more to him than I ever will, and if I give him a chance, he will break the fragile peace I have managed to find. Itβs not the first time Iβve had to escape a predator.“

Maryse just finished ‘Sociopath’ and ‘Insidious’… wow what a crazy ride that was, my head is still spinning and I definitely need something light and fluffy romance to read after my dark fix. I enjoyed both books for different reasons.
Can anyone tell me anything about ‘Vain Series’ as it’s on sale and I don’t know anything about it.
Oh I forgot blood deep was out!!! See maryse this is why we need u!!! Hope ur moving is going good!!
O…M…G I just put like 90% of this list on my wish list and tbr.
Amy and others, if we’re doing a group read of After this weekend, you better speak up quick ’cause my reading plans are about to get majorly derailed with Maryse’s new list.
Shell, I have all the Vain books. I’ve only read the first one so far but can tell you you I loved it. 4 to 4.5 stars for me. I loved, loved, loved it. A strong heroine, a scary situation, a sexy and gorgeous hero. But is he a hero? A twisty turny crazy ride I recommend.
Ok. I tried (for like 5 minutes) but I just can’t.
How am I supposed to resist “special ops, genetic experiments, super soldiers and sex-addicted doms”?
Fortunately, Unlocked looks like a short one, so even if we read After, I’ll be able to fit it in to my weekend reading.
This list is crazy!! I’m loving the moving into a new house, but it’s happening at the same time as this book-week and there are too many on here I want to read. And I can’t but in short spurts. Gah!!!!!
My pleasure Laura!
Thanks Fabi. Will 1-click it on your recommendation as I love the type of hero or antihero with crazy twisty ride you are describing.
How great is today’s list?!? I’m not even going to guess at what my four-digit number is up to now after my one-click spree…
*snort* Maryse said short spurts. π
Fabi, I’m starting After this evening! π
Maryse, I have read and reread Three Rivers by Chloe Barlow. I absolutely loved Althea and Griffen’s story. Filled with tragedy, regret, healing, love and forgiveness makes this book memorable. Thanks for listing it on your site. Hopefully, once you get settled from your move, you and many others will read Three Rivers, a great, well written book.
I floved Three Rivers by Chloe T. Barlow!! It’s such an amazing book that takes you on an emotional roller-coaster! Everyone who loves passion, drama and romance should read it!!
And look at what I’m going to make because it is almost Halloween, and it matches the cover of After!
https://www.hgtv.com/entertaining/black-widow-halloween-shot-recipe/index.html
So many great books on the list today. Going one-click crazy π There is one I’d like to mention that’s on sale for this weekend for $.99 that wasn’t on the list. It’s Believing Lies by Rachel Everleigh. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NNDXT4K
I’m ready to start After tonight too! Who’s in??
These lists are killing me every Tuesday and Friday……And why am I so excited about Prisoner?!?!
Fabi, downloading Vain series due to your recommendation!!! The Vain I had downloaded was by Fisher Amelie.
A black widow drink Amy? Yeah, that will work!
Hopping on the After bandwagon tonight. *note to self: stop for a bottle of wine on the way home* If After turns out to be scary gritty and gut wrenching, I want to make sure I have reinforcements at home. Here’s hoping for a good weekend read. *Cheers*
Jean,
“And why am I so excited about Prisoner?!?!”
…same reason I am. π ha!
Yep I’m ready to start After this evening too – yey for the support group!
Jean, I looovvveeeddd Take Care Sara – seriously I’ve been hoarding my five star ratings lately but this book gets one. I immediately bought the followup novella and devoured that as well. I just really connected with the characters and story – was a sobbing mess for parts of it too.
Just finished Here with Me – SOOO Good! Major cliff hanger, CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT!! Read it in less than 24 hours, 5 stars!
Michelle, I’m so glad you loved it as much as I did, and the novella was just as great, wasn’t it?
Looking forward to our buddy read of After!!
Ok what are u all group reading? I’m out of the loop cause I’ve been reading the Angels series jr ward it’s pretty good but I’m intrigued about the word prisoners?!?
Hey Laura how are you liking that Angels series? I found it different but not bad.
We’re starting After by Krylov tonight. I hope that trying it again in group read mode will make me stick with it this time. I squirreled away from it last time but I’d just come off a couple of spectacular reads so I was in a different mood.
(how long is it going to take for Amy to say something about “Missionary Position”?)…… in 3…. 2…. 1……
A paranormal being compared to BDB? might be worth a peek…..
Riot sounds interesting. That other book with the “teacher” that went to prison wasn’t bad…. what was that again? hmmm…..
Here With Me….. yikes!!!! the brother???? oh no no no…… I like the forbiddeny thing.
So many good choices. Need to hurry and finish King #3 (AWESOME, BTW)…. can’t join on After (because it’s not on amazon)…. so at least I have some good choices.
I know Michelle, Here With Me is another of these I want to read. Sooo many!
Ella Fox’s entire Hart series is bundled for $.99.
I started Prisoner last night…. I will let you know……
Wow Maryse so many good choices on this list. Liking Insidious, and Vain Series. Will add those to my ever growing tbr list. Still reading Red Fox, so don’t think I’ll be jumping on the After bandwagon.
Amy, black vodka?! Sounds yummy and hey it goes with my EIT reading!! π
I like Here With Me too!!
Next book in T.H. Snider’s Cursed series just went live. Last one ended in major cliffhanger….I think this book is about Steve but Lincoln, Dault, Etty, Jo….are all supposed to be in this book too.
Not a peep from Amy. Hmmm is that a good thing it a bad thing? I’m halfway into Chap 5 and it really needs to pick up for me.
Good book + black widow halloween shots= quiet Amy?! :>
I’m liking them fabi I get what u mean they aren’t like ur excited to read the next but u just want to to see what’s happening, so what’s this after about? Hmmm if u squirrelled before that’s not good!!
Jean- Even though you got the wrong Vain book, Vain by Fisher Amelie is a very good book, read it!
Thanks Lee!
Who is this Amy you speak of? She sounds like a perverted lush. *snicker*
I had a date night with my hubby last night that didn’t end at the restaurant *hee hee* and some black widow shots…need I say more? π I’m only about 10% into After but liking it so far. Nothing *too* bad yet (just stuff making me cringe a bit) but I have a feeling it’s not going to stay that way. How bad is it that I’m *hoping* it doesn’t stay that way? π
I am helping a friend out with bowling birthday party for a bunch of third grade girls then I’ll be jumping back into After. How do I let myself get roped into these things? They are adorable, but good lord!! You would think they are all having PMS symptoms already!
Hey guys, I am only like 15% in on After but agree with Amy that I think things are going to pick up. Wasn’t sure what i was feeling about it, but now that I’ve stepped away I find I can’t stop thinking about it so……
I’m on chapter twelve. The writing is smooth as molasses. This author is extremely talented. However I still don’t have the feelings for this story as I did for her other two books. After is an earlier work of hers. So, I don’t know. It’s dark. No doubt about that, but I’m just not as tied up in knots as I was by her other two books I read. Or maybe it’s a “not yet” thing. I’m going to keep reading and likely finish it this time. It’s smooth and the story flows. Maybe I’m just feeling too impatient to get to some of these on this list.
I’m at the same spot Fabi and agree with all you said. There are lots of other books calling my name too, but definitely want to see where this goes.
Hey Jean, chapter 13 was brutal huh? You think Smith had met his match?
I’m on chapter 14 so far and I like the writing but I also have no idea where the story is going. That’s actually not a bad thing since so far it has not been predictable and I’m reaching for it to see what happens next.
Aleatha Romig’s Insidious was HFS good. I could NOT put it down. I’m a big fan of dark psychological romance…and this did not disappoint. From the first words you are drawn into this world where you wonder exactly what you would do if in the same position.
Twisty, turny, up, down, sideways and diagonal….this is one of those books where you sat with your hand over your mouth part of the time thinking, “holy sh*t, I really didn’t just read that, did I?”
And the very last paragraph of the book… mad props to Ms Romig, she’s a phenomenal talent!
Ooo Grey….I am intrigued! I think that may be my next read!
I am really liking After Michelle and Fabi…. Not sure where its going either! It’s unlike anything I’ve read….I just keep flipping the pages unsure what’s coming next!
*looks up and blinks* Halloween finally hit me, and I’m in PNR mode. I’m reading Cold Stone Touch currently. So, with that, I bought The Last Glass. I’ll read it after… *looks* A lot of other stuff? I think Kitty and the Dead Hand next. My Book Dom loves me right now. (he totally understands Cold Stone Touch. I’ve been waiting forever for this book! )
Almost Halloween already. Yikes.
Jean , Michelle, chap 15. Did y’all see that coming with Lott. I didn’t have a clue. That’s the reason I re-read the first book I ran across by this author. The second time around I picked up sooo many subtle hints.
I’m totally sucked in now – finishing chap 20…want to get to part 2 for a stopping point since I have to get up early tomorrow. Fabi, I completely see why you raved over this author – the writing is crisp, flows and has a nuance to it that is really engrossing. I said above that I really have no idea where the story is going and have been surprised by many things including Lott.
I’m glad you like the author Michelle. I wouldn’t call this her best book, but I still find her writing exquisite.
You guys have me re-thinking reading After, sounds good. Although, I’m enjoying my halloween read, Red Fox.
Also intrigued by Insidious, Grey you said the magic words “twisty, turny.”I love a dark, twisted book with the wtf moments.
Bev, I’m about 75% in Red Fox and read that bar scene- it was funny, but not what happened to Perry after that!! Not sure about Max and howdy doody- yeh he’s tall, red-headed and has freckles, but he’s supposed to be good looking and I don’t think Howdy-Doody is attractive!! LOL!!
Impatient with Dex and Perry and want them to finally admit their attraction to each other- enough already!!! π
Ugh, I just feel so…sad for John and Eva. And so angry for them. And I wanna go on a castrating rampage. With a rusty pocketknife. Then maybe I’ll do the right thing and disinfect what’s left of their junk…with a bottle of cheap vodka. No way am I wasting the good stuff on them. Remember in World War Z where they are in the plane and he gives that woman a mini bottle of liquor – I think it’s vodka? – and tells her she’s earned it or deserves it (can’t remember exactly what he says), then pours another bottle of liquor over her wound? Yeah, I’m not that nice. They don’t get to drink any of it.
Oh! Have you ladies seen Hard Candy?? *That* scene. But without the ice pack.
Here’s to a lazy Sunday of laying around and reading all day. *lifts coffee cup*
Sadness ahead with After π
Not sure where you all are but boy does it take a turn and the second half goes in another direction completely…not in a bad way but again I still have no idea how this will play out.
I made it to chapter 28 last night since I couldn’t put it down after the shockers at the end of part 1!
Oh man, between hearing that and also about Red Fox (at 75% there is still no lovin’ going on, seriously?!?) I’m really glad I don’t have to go anywhere today so I can read and sulk in my blankie cave all day.
I love when books do this to me. π
Michelle and Amy, I’m right there with ya…ugh
I’m almost to chapter 20. I’d like to say it feels like the calm before the storm. But there haven’t really been calm moments in this book have there?
Thanks Amy, for making this a group read. I knew Und get back to it eventually. But this gave me a reason to do it now. And, honestly, I probably would have squirreled away this time too if we weren’t reading it together.
I can’t say I’m emotionally involved like I was with the previous two books, but this story keeps me wanting to know what’s next. So I keep reading and it keeps delivering.
Not only do i feel for John and Eva….i feel bad for most of the men! Her writing is amazing Fabi. I will have to go back and check out the other books by her you were raving about!
To describe the difference in the books, I have to say, this one keeps slapping me with situations and revelations, the more I read the less I can put it down. The other books were more like punches to the gut throughout. I don’t think I breathed with those. But again, I feel biased and am afraid I don’t give enough credit to After which is really a good book. I really don’t think this woman can write anything bad. Her skill is off the charts. I’ve read she lives in Spain. Wish I lived there. I’d be happy almost anywhere in Europe with all of its history and antiquities.
Ahhh Fabi you are definitely in the calm before the storm section – I can’t even think about it or I will cry again!
Ooooh…I’m gonna paint my nails a pretty, bright color to get through After. I know, sounds silly but it works for me. π
I’m making my way through my China Glaze The Giver collection, and I’m going to use Givers Theme…so pretty!! Look at these swatches of the collection:
https://www.thepolishaholic.com/2014/08/China-Glaze-The-Giver-Collection-Swatches-Review.html
I love movie-themed polish collections! My favorite movie collections I have are China Glaze Hunger Games and OPI Skyfall. Yep, all the colors in each. Because I always want to try all of them. π
Cheryl I wrote that before I read the parking lot sscene. That had my heart in my throat and chanting “no no no.”
I was going to read The Benson, 2.5, but it is on my nook and needed to be charged. So, I started Prisoner. One of the writers is Carolyn Crane and I’ve been wanting to try her. Hooked so far.
OPI Skyfall collection is one of my favorites of all time – I have duplicates of every bottle! Do you have the 18k gold leaf top coat (Man with the Golden Gun) Amy? That one is gorgeous too but was like an add on to that collection.
Oh no Michelle you are scaring me! I’m not there yet!
I recently bought Essie find me an oasis. I love the color but not the texture. I haven’t worn it yet as it feels more winter to me, lol. They had a dark blue, school blazer?, that maybe would of seemed more fall to me.
I just finished Part 1. WHOAH I was not expecting the second punch in that one two combo. Or was it a 1, 2, 3. Ugh. Brutal. Definitely no pause before going to part 2. Yeah, I would have also read through if I’d gotten here last night.
Btw, if this book had been written more recently, don’t you just know that part two would have a sequel? I really hate how authors are breaking their books into parts nowadays. Its nothing but annoying. Love that After is a whole book. Written today I’m sure it would have been an annoying series of cliffhanging sequels.
“Would have a sequel”=”would have been a sequel”
Sorry, I’m in a hurry to get back to the book.
John and Avery. Almost polar opposites don’t you think? Except they are both so strong and smart.
It was definitely quite a few punches for me Fabi! I know what you mean about splitting books up – I hate it. I mean they are trying to make money but honestly give me all the book in one go and I would pay more.
Bev, I have that color but haven’t used it yet either. I actually have so many nail polishes that I have to rotate to get to them all…sad I know!
Jean, make sure you have time to keep reading after part 1 because Fabi agrees with me too, you can’t stop after that crazy chapter!
Oh and I have to plug it again because it really is one of my favorite series – House of Korba came out today which is the newest book in the Ghostbird series by CL Stone. They are crazy addicting and the first book is free to try with the next four bundled for .99 right now.
Michelle, is the first book Introductions: The Ghost Bird Series: #1 (The Academy)?
I am just getting back to it and assume i am coming up on the end of part 1. I had too much stuff to do today and I was going crazy thinking about it!
I know Jean. I had errands to run yesterday too. Mi’m trying to put off today’s as late as possible.
Part 2 seems like a whole new book at first and starts with a punch. Love Krylov. Lol
Ooo ii’m excited Fabi, but i am getting sidetracked all day. Probably won’t get to read till tonight and hopefully finish tomorrow night.
Grabbed it Michelle, looks fun.
Well,I squirreled away from everyone and went with Painted Faces. I think it was Michelle (the other one) that found it for 99 cents. I am loving it. Went to do my Sunday grocery shopping and whipped through the store so I could get back to it. Can’t stop thinking about it. Now I don’t feel like I am missing out on your group read because I have this little gem.
House cleaning done, now can snuggle down and read Dead Sky Morning. Dear God I hope there’s finally some Dex and Perry loving in this book!! π
Fabi, yes the first book is Introductions. It looks like a young adult novel but especially in the later books, ramps up on mature topics and romance. It is already riske since there is one girl and 7 guys who are all into her. And the Academy part is not what you think…ie not just a school. You’ll like it Bev – just hope you do not become addicted like me!
Ok done with cleaning so I’m going to read more of After – really dying to see how this story wraps up!
Michelle S so jealous you are reading it for first time. This book is why I one click her books. Keep hoping for that magic again. Love having Killer Queen ready for the right time to read.
Fabi decided to grab Vain too.
Cheryl did you read The Benson? Going to finish Prisoner then right back to Dex & Perry.
Michelle, I downloaded it. It sounds right up my alley in reading taste. Thanks for the recommendation.
MichelleS I have Painted Faces on my tbr. Can’t wait to read it now.
Bev, hope you like Vain. #2 is still waiting for me.
I have so much I want to read! And so many more added to my list from Maryse’s Friday list.
But for now, back to After. I can’t even imagine how this story could possibly resolve. Don’t ya’ll think this was definitely 2 books in one?
Bev, don’t forget to let me know how you liked Prisoner when you finish it. It’s one of the ones I’m interested in from this list.
Fabi the second part is starting to tie in and I think I see another connection that hasn’t been revealed yet. I’m wishing for a happier ending…or at least one that offers some hope…just a pinch…anything…
After is so much more violent than the other two I read. Especially in this second part.
Maryse- I just read the strip-club scene in Dead Sky morning and I am dying to read Dex’s POV that you have on your EIT reading order post. I’m trying to wait until finishing this book, since you said it kept you in the dark about Dexβs thought process for a little longer and made him extra mysterious; but damn it’s hard!!! π *yep, Amy i said hard!!*
Bev, I did read The Benson. Good, quick read. π
Cheryl, I was tempted to read the Dex files at the same time.
Finally got to watch the first ep of Walking Dead. Reunited and it feels so good, lol. Love when they are all together. Daryl with Carol and Rick with Judith; perfect. Tyrese the berserker. Like all Rick’s action hero one liners.
Now where is Beth?
Just finished chap 21 of After. I guess I’m going into part 2 of the book?? I am just devastated… Crying my eyes out!!! Now I’m not sure why I’m reading this book!!!! Not sure I wanna anymore!!! Need support here!!! Damn I need tissues. My T-shirt is a mess!!
Awww Linda hugzzz. I know. That was devastating. π
Linda I cried like a baby too! I was depressed for a good chunk of part 2 but I’m still reading and seeing the beginnings of a light at the end of the horrible sob inducing tunnel. I only have 30 pages left though so it’s been a long haul to get there.
I’m on chapter 30 and can finally see where it’s going. But “on edge ’till the last few pages” is typical Krylov writing if 3 of her books is enough to go by. I hope to finish it tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest. Maybe I can squeeze in a short read before Tuesday’s release of Last Light.
Whew I finished and feel emotionally drained…in a satisfying way. I’ll wait to comment more until the rest finish but I’m really happy I went with this read. I’m going to end up reading all of her work no doubt about it.
Awww Michelle. It makes me feel good to see you say that. Someone else who loves this author as much as I do. For me, she’s like Colleen Hoover who I’ve read completely. I won’t stop till I have read all of Krylov’s work. So far, all the endings have been extremely satisfying. I’m still working on this one but I know it’ll take through to the last few pages.
I agree Michelle, I will be reading all Krylov ‘ books now! Not finished After yet, but almost. Fabi, I agree that part 2 is like a 2nd book, and thanks for intoducing me to this amazing author!!!
Hey, where’s Amy been hiding? Nothing from the peanut gallery? Are you still reading it Amy?
Phew, just finished After. Loved it. So much squirreling only to end up with another fantastic 4* read from Krylov.
Did y’all see the advertisement for another one of hers called Abduction? A college student who penns erotic stories gets kidnapped. <—- sounds shivery dark to me. Will probably be my next Krylov read.
But for now, just a big sigh to have gotten through After. It was more violent than I'll usually read. But it was an integral part of the story. Everything Krylov puts in her books adds to the plot. There is no fluff. That's saying a lot when you consider that the book After is over 1100 pages long.
I finished Painted Faces – just loved it. It was that quiet but powerful book. Going to check out the author’s other works for sure. Thanks for that little 99 cent gem of a recommendation!
Yeeaa Jean. It was an awesome weekend read for me especially because of the company I had reading it.
Thanks for initiating Amy and thanks for reading Jean, Michelle, Linda?, was great fun to share with y’all.
This may end up being a duplicate. Tried to post it a bit earlier…

I think I’m going to try to fit in Unlocked from this list before tomorrow’s new releases.
This is a long book Fabi….guess that’s why it’s taking me so long but I did have lots of interruptions this weekend….grrrr. Trying to finish at my desk before the boss gets in! Enjoyed reading it with all of you and made me feel better to know we were reading and feeling the same things.
MichelleS, glad to see you loved painted faces. I downloaded that one too the other day…. moving it up in my list!
There are so many books calling me. .. Prisoner, Insidious, Stay (I loved Away!!!), Unbroken (great series), Rowdy (another great series) and SO MANY MORE!!! Oh and I totally 1-clicked Red Hill, on sale right now (like i needed to add to my list)!
Fabi, I have not ventured into the M/M genre and i think i remember you saying if I give it a shot, I shouldn’t start with a krylov book. Is that right? Because I really want to read more of her books. Many have told me to start with Try. What’s your suggestion?
Jean, After had quite a bit of M/M. The one I mentioned above, Abduction is not m/m either but will likely have some elements like After did. I think most, maybe all of Krylov’s writing is dark.
If you want dark m/m try Bad Things. If you want a semi-darkish m/m love story then read Dangerously Happy.
Straight up romance love story would be Try and the follow up Take.
That’s the extent of my m/m reading unless you count bdb Lover at Last.
Maybe someone who’s read a bit more of it than I have can add some suggestions.
I think this next one I’m going to read is m/m but not sure. I’d have to read the blurb again.
Me too – wanna read more Krylov. But tbr is so long. I just need an excuse to pick one read over another. π
Thanks for the input Fabi! I should probably start with Try although I was not even phased by the M/M in After so……..
I should amend that statement. I shouldn’t say I wasn’t phased because some of it was brutal…. but you know what I mean right?
I know what you mean. I had a hard time with the level of violence in After. Try will take you a little more close and personal with the m/m. It’s a beautiful love story. I lived it. A 5* for me. But I’m one of those that gets sappy with love stories. For some reason color, race, gender, even age, all get blurred for me when I’m reading about two people falling in love.
Lived=loved
Obviously, since I’m female. Ha!
Jean, don’t start with Unlocked. This one begins really rough with the m/m and bdsm. Sheesh, I feel like I just picked up a heavy porn book. I hope the story and and more sci fi kick in soon.
Thanks for the heads up Fabi! I wouldn’t want to start with something like that! I’m thinking I’m going to need a light feel-good read after After! The 2nd half is so dark!
Thanks for the break down on some of Krylov’s books Fabi. I have no problem with m/m but I enjoy it more if there are female relationships in the mix so After was perfect for me. Abduction actually looks the most interesting to me right now and I plan to try that one next.
Right now, I went with one from my tbr, The Unfortunates. Apparently I’m in the mood for more dystopian romance. Then I need to go back to my loan pile and think I will finally read The Beautiful Ashes.
Holy. Sh!t. I finally finished part one of After. *sob* Why, why, why? That was not right. Just not right. I’m so glad it ended there and part 2 began because I don’t think I could take the aftermath of what happened. *sniffle*
And the start of part two! *shudder* The description of what “someone’s” tongue looked like. *gag-cough* No sweetened condensed milk for me anytime soon. And y’all know how much I love that stuff.
*covers mouth* Excuse me for a second. *deep breath*
Okay. π *gag*
Amy perfect description of how I felt after I watched ep 2 of walking dead last night. That was horrifying.
Uh, Jean? The peanut gallery is still gagging over here. Be back shortly. π
Fabi, I’m glad you ladies took the plunge with me and read After! Whew, it’s a long one, huh? *snort* Long one…maybe that’s the “hard” Cheryl was referring to! π
Bev, wait until you see the last part of the second episode, specifically the last minute or so. OMG, that was awful. AWFUL. In a way only WD can do and get away with. And last night (ep. 3) was great! Love Rick. And even freaking Sasha! Damn, lady!! And Tyreese…that poor guy is a mess and I just want to hug him. Not really a spoiler but…next week we find out about Beth. Now back to After…
So you did see it already, Bev? Horrid, right?!? You’ll love the next episode though. Bittersweet. That’s all I can think about last night’s episode. *sigh*
Ewwww I know right Amy! End of part 1 devastated me! John…..sigh… felt for him! Things are really picking up.. ..i have about 200 pages left! Oh and Artel……i was like OMG at one point in the beginning of part 2.
Ha you are talking about Walking Dead and I thought watching it last night that I guess the uncommon name Gareth is a prerequisite for an apocalypse since we have one in After too.
I hated that last scene in the Walking Dead. And who it involved? Heartbreaking.
I wish I could find a good romance type book that has a sort of WD feel. I like the traveling around apocalypse setting.
Just finished Prisoner. It was definitely on the dark side. I liked it but thought everything went too fast. I needed it to take more time to build the relationship. But I’m definitely keeping my eye out for the next in the series.
Ok onto The Benson and Dead Sky Morning. See how much I can finish before tomorrow’s releases.
I decided to go to my TBR list before Tuesday bombards me with more temptations. I am reading Darkness (New Species #12). Fabi – if you liked Brides of the Kindred series, you might like New Species series. It is the perfect PNR formula book. Each one is a stand alone for a new couple, but the formula is the same and the overall storyline continues. This one is similar to Lora Leigh’s Breeds series. I loved the first 4 or 5, and have stuck with it, because I’m a sucker like that. When you need alpha growly PNR one book will do ya’….. remember this series!!! LOL
Oh, that’s right Michelle! Gareth in WD speaks in a pretty intelligent and matter-of-fact way which (oddly) is interesting, but last night I was all “Dude, shut the f&$% up already!!”
Jean, I was the same way at that part with Artel! As soon as he said “that” to her, I wanted to know *everything* about his life leading up to that point, ya know?
*scrolling up in comments*
Ooh! More nail polish talk! Michelle, it was an add-on of sorts to the original 12 Skyfall colors, and I never did pick it up. π That collection is absolutely beautiful and one of my favorites!
Bev, I know what you mean about that Essie color. It reminds me of my Zoya Feel collection from a couple of winters ago…very pretty winter-ish colors that are really too pale for any other time of the year. I know I mentioned the China Glaze Hunger Games collection earlier, but those colors *scream* Fall! Look at these swatches:
https://www.scrangie.com/2012/02/china-glaze-hunger-games-capitol-colors.html
They really are as pretty in person as in those swatches! π
I have that Hunger Games collection too Amy and agree they are great for fall. I did wear Fast Track, Riveting and Stone Cold more than once so those were winners for me from that collection…oh and the flakie top coat was great too. CoverGirl had little mini polishes for the second movie that were cool unique colors too…I can’t remember the name but one really looks like glowing flames.
Thanks MichelleS I have New Species on my wish list from your
recommendation of it.
Who’s planning on reading the Night Owl sequel tomorrow?
I’m about 34% into Unlocked and hope to finish it before tomorrow. It’s just pure smut so no biggie if I don’t.
MichelleS glad you liked Painted Faces π I adored it too! There’s a followup Killer Queen out right now that I picked up but haven’t read yet. I also have Six of Hearts to read by her but I heard that it doesn’t come close to how great Painted Faces was.
Bev, if you want a romance with a Walking Dead feel, I thought After fits. I also read Reawakening by Charlotte Stein which is literally romance during a zombie apocalypse – it was fun but more of a fluffy erotica book. After is much deeper and there is a point behind the sexual encounters good and bad. I actually am blown away at how Krylov masters using sex within the story seamlessly – kinda like the norm is having a story with sex but she makes the sex tell a story if that makes sense.
“she makes the sex tell a story if that makes sense.”
Yes!!! She also explores character flaws and growth using the same technique.
Let me know when you decide to try Abduction. I’ll tag along read. It’s already on my Kindle.
Amy those are nice. Really like the Harvest Moon & Stone Cold. Type those names and they remind me of Neil Young and General Hospital, lol.
Fabi I think I’m reading it tomorrow, so curious as to were that story is going to go.
Michelle I may pick up one of her novellas. All of your reactions have me curious. I just remembered i have to finish Red Hill and also have the second Scott zombie book.
Haha Fabi I was thinking no one would have a clue what I was trying to say but you get it! I already picked up Abduction too (I will forget if I don’t and put it in my tbr queue). I have to finish one book and then 4 loans before that but I’m a fast reader so I will probably get to it around the beginning of next week. Anyone else up for more Krylov fun…and tears?
I could actually read the Walking Dead graphic novels, lol. But I think they are darker than the show and not sure I want that.
Michelle by the time you work your way to Bad Things I’ll be ready for my 3rd read of it. haha
Michelle do you also read YA dystopian or only adult ones? I’ve read so many excellent ones in YA.
Yeah Bad Things scares me a little but I will get there for sure – will probably go with Try after Abducted.
I read anything dystopian and I love recs so lay ’em on me! So far The Unfortunates is just ok for me but it’s hard to read it following After and not think it’s just ok ya know.
Bev, the graphic novels are even darker. I like how the tv show plays out better so far.
And no Daryl. Really like the set up for a dark urban fantasy type series, but with a little bit more romance.
I do like the other types of relationships that WD takes the time to develop.and wish that sometimes our books would do the same. Like the brother relationship between Rick and Daryl or the friendship between Michonne and Carl.
Pre ordered Last Light so that it will be ready to go tomorrow.
I guess I haven’t heard of the Unfortunates. Will have to go check it out on Amazon
Just finished After. I will never forget this story. My heart is so heavy with emotion. Don’t want to spoil this story for anyone else who might want to be brave enough to experience it. Now I’m going to curl up and cry some more. Feeling proud to have powered through some of the most difficult scenes I’ve ever read. So worth every ache and tear both happy and sad. Great author.
Has anyone read Dead of Eve by Pam Godwin? Curious about it.
Fabi need to look that one up too.
Hi Maryse, so pleased you’ve recommended Blood Deep, I’ve got all of the Blackthorn books so far and love every single one of them. Lindsay Pryor’s writing effortlessly transports you into a whole new world. I downloaded Blood Deep on release day and will be diving in shortly. Totally awesome series!!!
