P.S. MY READING UPDATE ➔ I’m still reading and LOVING Colleen Hoover’s latest “Too Late“. It has me on EDGE!!!! I’m so scared, and it IS dark-ish (but so far, not too over-the-top). Definitely different for this author, but it does still totally has her writing style and character “feel” and story flow. But the way it’s different for her is that it “goes there” (language, sex, and very difficult scenes and a very dark lifestyle). This is full on danger, and I’m SO into it. Psych-thriller for sure (but intense romance or love story brewing). I just don’t know if it will end well. Which I love!! 😉
Okay so I’ll keep it updated throughout the day, since the whole BlackFriday/Cyber-Monday shopping weekend has books and much-coveted home products shifting in and out of sale regularly.
BARGAIN FINDS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: some are bargain/sale priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order. Sales listed are for Amazon U.S., however some of the Amazon UK links also reflect the sale!):

Hail Mary by Nicola Rendell <— JUST WENT LIVE!! FAMOUS FOOTBALL STAR ALERT!!! She accidentally punches him out, and then he asks her on a date… “Jimmy “The Falcon” Falconi is mystified that Mary has absolutely no idea who he is. Mystified and refreshed. He is, after all, not your everyday NFL quarterback. He shops at Costco, has a soft spot for Pinterest, and is in the midst of an epic losing streak. Jimmy falls for Mary fast and hard, the way he does everything—balls out and like it’s fourth and long. And he realizes he’s finally met his match. That stamina he’s so proud of? Doesn’t stand a chance against her Kegels. But what they don’t know is she’s also his new physical therapist”
- Sacked: A Novel (Gridiron Book 1) by Jen Frederick <— FOOTBALL STAR SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! Lauren found it for us!! He’s into his teammate’s sister! “…she’s the sister of his fellow teammate, but that’s not going to stop him. Especially not when he’s convinced Ellie is the one. …but he’s never met her before.“
Lauren: I just read a FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC book by Jen Frederick called Sacked:A Novel (A Gridiron Novel Book 1). It’s like Elle Kennedy’s & Kristen Callahan’s books….in fact, she thanks both authors in the acknowledgments portion of the book. I loved it! You HAVE to read it!
Cristina: I jumped to Sacked by Jen Frederick and yet another really great read! Not quite as dramatic as Hustle, but still a beautiful love story. Had me laughing out loud a few times too! I believe someone else on here had recommended that a short time ago? Thanks! 🙂
Shelly B: I loved Sacked by Jen Frederick, too.
- Half-Shelled Heart (Oyster Cove Book 2) by Jennifer Foor <— JUST WENT LIVE!! SOUNDS HEARTWARMING… SHE RETURNS TO CHINCOTEAGUE AFTER HER DIVORCE ALERT!! “Jamie Danvers spent her summers on the shore of Chincoteague, Virginia, so after a messy separation from her husband, she moved her veterinary practice to the quaint coastal island. She never expected to run into the first person who ever stole her heart, or that after years there will be residual feelings…“
Marked Box Set (The Complete Series With Bonus Content) by Elena M. Reyes <— JUST WENT LIVE!! SERIES BUNDLE ALERT! He’s a tattoo artist, and she accompanies her friend to his shop… “Talan Cox wants to mark Maya–with more than his ink. The owner of a prominent tattoo shop, he’s used to being hit on by easy women. Though “easy” is not a word associated with Maya when she comes in to support her friend. Flirtation ensues...”
- Low by Mary Elizabeth <— I ABSOLUTELY FIVE-STAR LOVED THIS THRILL RIDE!!!! It’s crazy, a young couple just trying to survive, and they decide to do the unthinkable! GASP!!!!!! So good, and it’s super bargain priced today! (and here’s my review)
Fabi: Speaking of … did anyone here read Low by Mary Elizabeth? It came out earlier this year. I just finished listening to Aaron Shedlock’s narration. Which was excellent. But now I’m shuffling around all mopey and sad. That was pretty brutal.
Jessica: I loved this book. Let me say that you must read her other books. All of them will stay with you.
Cheryl: I just finished reading… still reeling and a little confused about the ending. Anyone care to shed some light on it please?

- Ares (Guardians of Hades Romance Series Book 1) by Felicity Heaton <— JUST WENT LIVE!!! SON OF HADES MEETS A HUMAN WOMAN ALERT!! Johanne: This is sooo much my style !
Andrea: This sounds good!
Jasmin: Sounds interesting 😀

Pia: Finished Big Rock a few days ago. A very sweet, fun, sexy and safe read – no angst here. But Lauren Blakely when she is best 🙂
Cheryl: Finished reading Big Rock. It was a funny, lighthearted read that had a wrapped up with a pretty bow ending. Kinda like overdosing on candy.
- Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy <— SHE’S ALWAYS BEEN COMFORTABLE IN HER OWN SKIN… until she meets him. So she enters a beauty pageant! She gets a job at a fast food restaurant and meets the town popular jock, and she’s surprised when he becomes interested in her. “So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Teen Blue Bonnet Pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does.” (on sale!!!!)
bev: Dumplin’ is on SUPER SALE. One of my favorites last year.
MichelleS: I absolutely LOVED Dumplin’. How could I not? It takes place in a small Texas town (I work in a small Texas town) and it was spot on. The giant homecoming mums and all. You haven’t let me down yet, Bev, with your coming of age books: E&P, Simon vs THSA, and now Dumplin’. When I need a book like this, I will come right to you!!! I couldn’t put it down, literally.

- Defying the Odds (Battered Hearts Book 1) by Kele Moon <— CHAMPION FIGHTER MEETS WAITRESS ALERT! ONE OF MY FAVORITES IN THE GENRE!!! And OMG to me, he was the ultimate in no-nonsense, brooding bad-asses, and I JUST LOVED how this book started. Endeared me to this grumpy guy so hard! It’s super-bargain priced right now!!! Here’s my review.
- Cougar Christmas: (Older Woman/Younger Man Christmas Romance) by Evangeline Anderson <— EVANGELINE ANDERSON JUST WENT LIVE ALERT!!! A little Christmas steam to kick off the season… 😉 She’s his cold-hearted, secretly-just-divorced boss, and she needs a “husband” to come with her to a business retreat… “When Drew agrees to impersonate Genevieve’s husband in exchange for a leg up the corporate ladder, he has no idea how intimate things will get with his beautiful but distant boss…“
- Saving Bliss by Rachael Brownell <— JUST WENT LIVE!!! HE’S HER NEW BODYGUARD… AND ROOMMATE ALERT!! “I don’t need a babysitter or a bodyguard. I can take care of myself. Terri: A lot of reviews and lots of stars! I love my Vampires.
Amazon Echo – White <— BACK ON THE LIST ’cause it’s still on sale. I have the black one, but you can get it in black or in white, and today, I felt like featuring the white one ’cause it’s pretty. 😉
Hooray! Maryse is reading Too Late!! *claps hands* I loved this one, though I never did get around to reading all those extra added chapters. Dumplin sounds really good right now, so one clicking that and A Shade of Vampire sounds pretty good too!
Maryse, I’m debating on starting Too Late or Exaltation of Larks. Help me decide! Here lately been reading “fluff” or just ok books. Wanting something with substance.
I always look at all the big coffee machines. Yet, I recently bought a coffee press, and I love it. I’m lucky that there is an independent little coffee place by me that will grind the beans for it when I buy a bag. Smells so good.
Yes, read Dumplin, please.
I got Dumplin and Six of Crows!
Cheryl, if you want substance, read An Exaltation of Larks!
Jean that’s what R. recommended too. Have to say the writing is spectacular!
I do love my coffee bev. My day is not “official” until I’ve had my morning coffee, and when I do, I suddenly become so productive.
I recommend it too!!!!!!
Exaltation of Larks is a HUGE AWESOMENESS read.
AND AND!!!!!
It’s delightfully risqué. 😉
AND OMG CHERYL!!! YES. If you want substance… THAT IS PURE, UNADULTERATED SUBSTANCE!!!
Did you see I pulled an Ela? 😉
Tasha, yes Too Late is hooking me good!!! I’m hoping to be done tonight so I can immediately review.
Suanne created a FB group for Larks and I’ve been consumed for 2 days. I’m “supposed” to be watching football with the husband but it’s not going well LOL.
Looks like I’m reading Larks. At least I have the tissues already and I can also self-medicate with Nyquil. 😉
Hurry and grab Manny before Maryse starts God-Shaped Hole!
*snort*
Amy super-washed him, too…
Lol.
Now I’m imagining him with his fur all puffed.
Yeah, if by “super-wash” you mean banged… 😀
Now I’m throwing up in my mouth a little bit.
Ok. Alot.
Good thing you got that steam cleaner!
Grabs Manny and goes into blankie fort with tissues and Nyquil. *whispers prayer for HEA* and continues reading Lark.
Godspeed, Manny.
Godspeed.
No wonder Manny is drinking now…
He’s growing up, Maryse…
And is NOBODY going to comment on the set of er… footBALLS up there, on that guy?
*snort*
*scrolls up*
I’m now growing up too fast.
At this rate he will be Ernest Hemingway by the new year.
Bwahahahaha Maryse,I kinda did a confused double-take when I first saw the cover and thought, huh, two footballs, that’s weird. Blaming the Nyquil on why I didn’t “get” the cover the first time.
Speaking of confused, I’m getting a little confused trying to keep all the people straight in Larks.
LOL Cheryl. Larks on Nyquil could be interesting. You’ll catch up though.
It’s true that the a few of the important names could be for males or females… and the full length names vs. the “short/nickname”
Yes I too had a an issue at first, but it sunk in perfectly. 😉
“I will give you this, and you will give me… That.” Well, alrighty then. This just took a interesting turn.
I found us a Manny when I was shopping the other day. I sent it to Maryse on messenger LOL!
Cheryl–And I’m reading it too and FLOVing it! (And I also have a sucky cold!! I think I’ve literally used a box of kleenex since Thursday!)
And Maryse is SO right–It’s delightfully risqué. 😉
Nay- it is risque and I have NO idea how this will play out!
Me either!! Love it!!!
Cheryl I LOVED THAT LINE!!!
HOT!!!!
Isn’t it cool how she can be so eloquent and poetic, and GRAND… and yet be so risqué and titillating and touch on SO much forbidden fun!!!
:D!!!!!!
She’s sneaky… and I LIKE IT!
It’s like we’re that “frog in the boiling water”…
The heat is turned up so subtly, yet so consistently that we don’t even notice until it’s FULL STEAM AHEAD!!!!! And we are SO in…
*fans self*
yeah… I love that book. LOL!!!!
Emma Scott just asked me what Marmy means. I think it’s time to trademark it!
And she said to tell Maryse “she hopes her stuff gets classified as Marmy.” 😀
I just finished An Exaltation of Larks, and it’s probably one of the best all time reads for me. What a story. It smoldered and burned and hurt and ached. Every one of those characters pulled your heart strings. I was disappointed with the ending, but loved the ending . . . It was just right. I am definitely book hung over now.
But not the bunny?
Alright, you know I have to ask (especially since I’ve been less than thrilled with the male-POV book Chimera)…is Larks male POV like TMIL was?
R…I’m pretty sure Full Tilt was an agreed upon book to add to the Marmy list. 😉
Although Larks wasn’t a single POV at all – you were in all of their heads, more sometimes than other, I felt it had a male POV dominance. I’m going to be hung over for a while.
Well, dang. 😕
Amy, it’s in 3rd person, so you aren’t so much in their heads as following them. I don’t know how to explain. You might want to try a sample to see what I mean.
Like the beginning of the story is Alex’s child hood, so it’s told in third person but it’s about him.
LOL and yes she said the same thing. Full Tilt for sure!
I’ll definitely read the sample of Larks first. Unfortunately Chimera just solidified my dislike for male POV. 🙁 I wasn’t thrilled with the writing, I skimmed a decent amount, I didn’t empathize with the H or “feel” what he was feeling at all, and I couldn’t have cared less about the h and what she was dealing with. *sigh* BUT!! I did finish it so that’s something to be proud of. 😀
Third person eludes me. I love reading it, can’t explain it. But yes, there are 2 H’s and an h. So you will be following one male or another most of the time. But, definitely check out a sample.
I’m thinking Turning Point may be a Marmy book as well, but Maryse hasn’t read it yet.
That book. THAT BOOK. I really struggled with the writing style at first (it wasn’t bad, just difficult for me to adjust to) but once I did, I was hooked. And now…now I’m still healing. Still bruised. So of course what do I do? I keep poking at the bruise and then cringing ’cause it hurts so much. That book does NOT shy away from ugly, painful truth of what all happened.
I just got that one in the mail! Now I’m super curious about the writing style. Last time someone told me about a book with a “different” writing style, it was Fabi and Wolfsong and if I ever have a first born child, it’s hers.
All I can say is stick with it. Even if you feel like you’re not clicking with it, try and stick with it. I would have missed out on some delicious emotional turmoil had I given up. And you know what? By the end I loved the writing style. 😉
It cracks me up anytime I recieve an update that one of you has liked my “review”, lol.
“He’s growing up, Maryse…”
“And is NOBODY going to comment on the set of er… footBALLS up there, on that guy *snort*”
“*scrolls up* I’m now growing up too fast.”
LOL!!!!!! You guys crack me up!!!
Dang, I’ve become so accustomed to looking right past the covers with guys on them that I miss all the suggestive stuff. Yes, those are some mighty large…footballs he has up there. 😉
Drum Roll.. ……….
I am done 50,098 words. Nanowrimo is done and dusted. Yipeeee.
Come on Grey…Im spurring you on now. Id help but I quite literally can’t feel my fingers.
I am almost wetting myself reading the chat. Poor Manny….did someone put him the dryer to make him all fluffy?
Sounds like Larks might be a good holiday book. Its about time I tackled a marmy…its been a while.
Bev my favorite label is Spell and the Gypsy Collective. Theyre Australian but have an online store in the States. So beautiful….I love their blouses and wear one of their maxi gowns for Christmas each
Congrats Lisa!!
Oh and Maryse…Im definitely commenting on those gigantic balls!! Im not entirely certain what he’s supposedly doing to his balls? 😉
Lisa… he’s obviously supporting them… they are so big.
*snort*
R… I need beta readers….can you point me in the right direction?? A friend is doing a read for me but I know she will be kind with any critique.
Lisa, can you shoot me an email so we can talk that way instead of through GR? It’s [email protected]
Or you can just post your email, but mine’s already public and you probably don’t want yours to be.
Will do thank you R 🙂
Ok. I have a bunch of info for you. I’ll send it as soon as I get your email 🙂
Thank you!!!
[email protected]
QUESTION re: Instant Pot – can you just put small amount in it? Cause for a crockpot you are supposed to fill 2/3. I’m asking as I want to get 6 quart but wont always be cooking a lot. I know you can’t overfill. I’ve never used pressure cooker before, so completely newbie here.
I’m a pressure cooker noob, too…
And now I’m curious for the answer!
SIMON VS THE HOMOSAPIENS AGENDA ON SALE!!!!
SIMON VS THE HOMOSAPIENS AGENDA ON SALE! !!!
BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY
Lisa, I fell asleep, but I just sent it. It’s like War and Peace lol.
Lol Bev I just checked out all the kindle cyber Monday deals and saw that one and thought of you! I one clicked The Wonder and The Boys on the Boat.
So I stayed up super late to read Holding Up the Universe and I really, really liked it. Then I remembered I was supposed to get Dumplin while it was on sale so this morning jumped on and was glad I hadn’t missed the deal. Then read the blurb all the way though and realized it sounded too similar to what I had just read and now I’m not excited about it anymore…*sigh*
Oh, and Truly Madly Guilty by Lianne Moriarty is on sale for 2.99! I loved this one!
I’m at 83% on AEoLarks, and my kindle f#cking died!! So I’m catching up with online stuff until it charges enough for me to finish the book (which is tearing my guts out at the moment, btw.)
And when Maryse said delightfully risque’, I thought I knew what she meant, but no–I had zero clue at that point! LOVE it!
Oh heavens to betsy that “scene”… wait…both those scenes…Gah.
Yes, **those** scenes!!
What are these mysterious risqué “scenes” you speak of?!? I thought that was a rip your heart out book, not a sexy one???
Leslie it is SEXY. SEXXXXXXY!
But she’s just such an eloquent writer that explores all sorts of avenues and emotions that they can be emotional, too.
Best of both worlds Leslie!
Tasha, except Dumplin is probably better. 😉
Wow Lisa! Congrats. A mammoth effort! Yeah, and while you were writing, some pretty shady stuff went on with Manny *snort*
Amy, I totally second your thoughts on The Turning Point. One of my fav books ever, and I’m not even into marmee books. But this book? It crushed my heart, but I still loved it. R, I hope you love it too.
And that ‘balls out’ book cover up there? I mean, WTAH?? *snorts again*
Leslie–It’s MUCH more erotically sexual than I expected!
Nay now that you’re done go check out the FB Larks group. I think you’ll find a nice leeeetle surprise 😉
Yes smoking hot fan yourself sexxxxxxy!
Oh yeah! Let me go find my pressure cooker stuff. BRB.
An Untamed State didn’t make me cry, but I came close. Made me so sad and angry too.
I never know what will make me cry. JR did.
R, if your friend doesn’t like Hausfrau tell her to try Simon because it is on SALE.
Well, yes. The Lark is probably the sexiest bird.
And if you throw in 70 disco on top of it…..
I bought it bev 😉 I’m not committing to reading it, but I have it just in case.
Oh C’mon R. Let’s do a book swap. It will be fun. You read Simon I Will read ……? Next month, it would be fun.
I’ll get back to you on that bev. It’s possible. I have a few lined up right now though.
*blinks rapidly*
Add R to the Marmy list.
Getting in the Christmas spirit and reading Bad Romeo Christmas.
I’m dying to know about the sexy times in Larks….i need some spoilers.
That big balls book cover is cray cray.
Okay…
for those that have not read or finished An Exultation of Larks SKIP THIS COMMENT!!! I JUST NEED TO GET THIS OFF MY CHEST. 😉 Tee hee!!!
*skip it*
*skip it*

Okay here goes…
without spoiling anything on Larks, I just want to make ONE minor complaint. *snort*
Er… hrmm… how to say this?
Does anyone think they were er… “robbed” of one mmmmmm…. thing. Scene. You know. *waggles eyebrows*
On the pressure cooker, from what I can tell the big issue is not to over fill. It appears, as long as you have the proper amount of liquid, you’re fine. The cooker will come with an easy guide for timing and liquid measurements. Mine has several different settings, but really that’s just a fancy way of saying “different times.” Like the “cook” setting defaults to 15 minutes and “stew” to 30 minutes. I think for roast I run the stew setting, check it, then run it again. Sometimes I even run it a 3rd time if I want it extra tender.
Maryse, get one. From what I hear, it’s worth it for broth/stock alone. If you do a good amount of roasts, it’s good for that too. I love mine even though I haven’t used it in a while. It’s more of a cold weather toy for me. I’ll cook something in it to refresh my memory this weekend and take notes. It’s easy to figure out though with the instructions.
Really, any recipe you already have will work, just verify the minimum liquid requirement. I have PC cookbooks, but I tend to stick with the one that came with the cooker and make additions.
Leslie, Maryse touches on that aspect in her review.
The pressure cooker sounds awesome!! I wicked want one!
You should Leslie! I can help more after I refresh my memory. It’s been a year since I’ve used it.
2 more days… 2 more $#;$ing days. I wish I didn’t have to work. I wish my kids weren’t in umpteen activities… I wish November had 31 days. That said, I have just over 4500 words left to write. When this is all over, I’m going to read like nobody’s business. I hope you guys have been keeping some good notes for me!
Leslie, I have the 6 quart one and I think you just need about one or two cups of water or stock or broth depending on what you are making. I’ve made frozen chicken breasts with one cup salsa and maybe 1/2 cup water in 10-15 minutes…
Kindle Unlimited is up to 40% today..40% with two year subscription.. Does anyone have this..worth it????
I think it is! I pay full price and think it’s worth it. So many writers are going that route these days.
Thanks Niki!
I LOVE Kindle Unlimited, and I also pay full price. I’ve had it ever since they started the program.
My hubby reads almost as much as I do (10-15 books/month), and we get every single book he reads for free. He won’t let me pay a dime (for him)–if I find a book that costs anything, he tells me to ‘forget it and find a free one’ (I’m his book picker-outer! lol)
Our KU pays for itself many times over each month. And R’s right. There are SO many authors going that route these days!
Nay I love how you’re his book picker. And I love even more that you are BOTH readers. It just seems like it would be such a sweet and comforting thing to read for hours next to your loved one.
R–I checked out the Larks group earlier today, but there was already SO much for me to read to get caught up on the posts that I decided to go back either tonight or in the morning. I noticed that there’s some free bonus reading!
Yes, but one in particular. Let me see if I can find a link.
I emailed you Nay. It’s hard to navigate. New group so TONS of posts! But all great stuff for fans.
I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson & A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley are both on sale too. I really enjoyed both of these books.
Kearsley’s The Winter Sea is also on sale, I’ve had this one in my library for awhile.
I just saw Rachel Higginson’s Five Stages of Falling in Love, Every Wrong Reason, Bet on Us, and Bet on Me are free on Amazon right now.
Just popping in while taking a quick break from the Larks. I am LOVING this book. It’s so beautifully written and I’m slowly eating every bit up like a big bowl of pudding. “Desire pooled thick like pudding in her chest, sweet along the back of her throat.”
And oh yeh, the name, is it only obvious to the reader?! Waiting for that shoe to fall, along with the BIG fall.
Cheryl, I want to be a Lark (by blood or by integration of love… I want in!!) LOL!
You know Cheryl, that quote taken out of context is…wait…or was it??
Love Rachel Higginson. If you haven’t read 5 stages…read it.
Testing out a new (couple of) first line(s)……:
‘I wonder if there will ever be a time again when I don’t feel the fear and flight of the fox with hounds upon my heels. Weariness from the constant thrum of anxiety, from my pulse drumming in my ears, has ground me down. I feel feather light and carved out like a husk. And now I am twisting in the currents, letting the great dry gusts of Northern winds drive me home.’
Would it make you want to keep reading????
5 Stages was AMAZING, I agree Lisa. She’s one of my favorite authors…

Oh god Maryse did I want that scene, but I don’t see how it could have worked that far in or she’d end up with an 800 page book, which actually I’m totally fine with, so yeah! Robbed!!!

Maryse, and all Larks fans, Suanne has a FB Larks group that is AWESOME. And Maryse…she gives out some of her writing extras that are MUST reads, one of which is ahem…Erik/Will um…yumminess…
Might fix what ails you 😉
Whoa. Maryse all group loving.
bev!!!! *gasp* DID YOU READ IT???
R. what’s the link you sent to Nay for the Larks group??
Right here–> https://www.facebook.com/groups/1775495636045271/
There is a Fish group too, but Larks is more active right now, obviously, and the Erik/Will goodness is on the Larks page.
Awww, I can’t access it because I’m not on facebook. Do you think you could send me the Erik/Will goodness, maybe via goodreads or I could send you my email address via GR. Please.
hmmm… not sure Cheryl, let me check 🙂
Ok thanks! I can send my email address to you on GR if that helps. Maybe a little cut/paste of the extras?!
Send it just in case Cheryl. You may have to get a FB to access, but if not, I’ll already have your email.
LOL Maryse! The scene may have been short, but the repercussions…that would have been bad. But I would have happily read it!
You know, I’m ok with being robbed. The hotness of the scene ultimately would not have been worth it. I agree the repercussions would have been devastating and certainly things would have ended differently.
Nope, just your review.
Now I’m guessing what I thought the situation was going to end up as is maybe not. Lol. I was thinking triangle that ended up as one of those triad couples, and a bit surprised, but now guessing plain old triangle.
