in Latest Book Releases

It’s not a huge release day today… (yikes this is one of my shortest release-day lists in years). I’m thinking it’s ’cause we’re all Merry Christmasing and Happy Holidaysing this week. :P

That said, there are some sure-treasures below! Like that one over there to the left!! I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve read this whole series and LOVED it like crazy, so this is the cherry on top!!! YAY ME!!! Almost 400 pages, and bargain priced? YES PLEASE!

…deleted scenes and alternate versions from the first four novels in the Night Huntress series, complete with author commentary on each selection. Includes: the original beginnings of Halfway to the GraveOne Foot in the GraveAt Grave’s End, and Destined for an Early Grave: a chapter written in Bones’s point of view; alternate versions of sections of Halfway to the GraveOne Foot in the Grave, and Destined for an Early Grave; the “white wedding” scene between Cat and Bones that never made it into the final books…and much more!

eek eek *GASP*!!!!!

I am reading a book right now and I’m totally into it, but I’m still in the first 20% so I’ll let you know soon. I saw it floating around in the sales last week and there was something about this one (cover, title and blurb) that caught my attention. It caught my “mood” and I’ll tell you what… the writing is amazing!!! Very “rich” and exquisite in detail, but super-relatable. I *think* it’s gonna be awesome!! May even be a love story at some point ’cause she’s got a thing for her friend’s older brother… so I’m in! In case you’re in the mood for this, too… here it is: The Good Daughters: A Novel by Joyce Maynard

First name that popped out for me was Laurann Dohner. She wrote the new Species Series that was so so hot. May just have to save this for when I want sure fire traditional PNR. She always delivers on that front.

Maryse December 22, 2015 at 11:50 AM

Yes she’s so popular!! The paranormals section has some heavy-hitters today!! :D

Tessa December 22, 2015 at 12:59 PM

Wow, this is short! I have Untouchable Darkness on pre-order. The first was a 3 star, but had enough potential to read book 2. I can’t read the Cat and Bones book because I STILL haven’t read the last book. I keep getting it, start reading it, then setting it down.

You have Thicker than Water twice. :-)

Michelle, I have the first new species book, but have yet to read it. I’ll move it up my TBR list for my next paranormal. If you like it this much, it must be good.

Jen December 22, 2015 at 1:00 PM

More Jake Wethers?!! YES!! The description makes me nervous though!! What has he done?!? I am going to listen to Beyonce’s song Sweet Dreams now. I always think of that scene in book one when they are on the dance floor!! HOT!

bev December 22, 2015 at 1:07 PM

Was in a book store and had to look at illuminae. How are you all reading that on kindle, lol. Also, saw Jackaby which I so want to read. Everything looks so pretty in a book store.

bev December 22, 2015 at 1:08 PM

Could you imagine if we met up in a book store? Id be so in debt, lol.

Theresa December 22, 2015 at 3:22 PM

Tessa – get on the Cat and Bones!!!!! I wish that series was still going.
I haven’t started the outtakes yet. I hope I don’t get lost but like author says I’M begging fir more Bones. Had just started Sustained when it popped up

Tessa December 22, 2015 at 3:27 PM

Was it Fabi or Michelle who recommended They Who Fell? I just started it, but so far I’m curious. :D Thank you!!

Bev, before Kindle, I remember going into Barnes and Nobles and coming out 75 dollars poorer, and that was every pay check! So, yep. That place is my Achille’s heel.

Theresa, literally, I keep getting it from the library, read a page, and go to something else. I think I need to read the last few pages of the other one, because I get lost so easily with that last book.

Lauren December 22, 2015 at 3:31 PM

I loved Royal Savage. I preordered & kept refreshing my library every 5min, hoping for early release….when I DID get it, I sat down & read till the end…nonstop, no breaks (sorry, kids….& hubby)

Lauren December 22, 2015 at 3:35 PM

Rachel Van Dyken’s The Dark Ones is on sale for $.99. Her books so rarely go on sale.

Theresa December 22, 2015 at 3:47 PM

For the First Time – alessandra Torre. Anthology is up early for pre order.
I think it had a follow up to Hollywood Dirt.

Theresa December 22, 2015 at 3:49 PM

Tessa, which book are you trying to get started on. Not sure if I can help but I have all hers in paperback so I can mess around with skimming fior you.

Theresa December 22, 2015 at 3:57 PM

Lauren, I think the second of Rachel’s book is on sale too. Wasn’t sure if you meant all or just the first

Tessa December 22, 2015 at 4:47 PM

Theresa, The last. I just have to check out the prior book at the same time, I think. Currently the place is closed for renovations to get a new carpet, so I’m out until January anyway.

Theresa December 22, 2015 at 5:47 PM

Tessa, if I remember the last was a bit complicated, but good. Since her uncle died new guy in charge if I remember and her old friends are in the middle. You should read when you get to it. I buy used books sometimes. Obviously, it puts all the last pieces to an end.
Personally, Jeaniene Frost was one of my favs. Still waiting for the last book in Vlad. I forget when this much time goes by. Not a re- reader. It was suppose to end with 3 books but changed to 4.

Lisa M December 22, 2015 at 6:38 PM

Gabby, I read Royal Savage!! I loved it too!!’ Couldn’t put it down as usual!! I have so many book boyfriends I can’t even count them anymore!!!!

Sharon December 22, 2015 at 6:40 PM

I am DEVOURING 18 by JA Huss. Nice and angsty just like I love them. A little naughty too – she is a student and he is 10 year older and a teacher. This isn’t a sugary kind of book. He is alpha and a little kinky and she is just so flawed. I don’t want it to be done.

Tessa December 22, 2015 at 6:42 PM

Oh, I love Vlad’s story. The romance between him and Leila just gets me every time. It got a little slow in the last book, but I still want to read four. I want to read the last book of Cat and Bones, but I’m just so lost.

MichelleS December 22, 2015 at 7:30 PM

Sharon – I read 18, and was super excited by forbidden aspect… It just fell flat for me the second half. So much potential!

Theresa December 22, 2015 at 7:30 PM

Tessa, read the reviews. Sounds like Frost did good intro but they are saying read series first. I’ll read soon and let you know. Good reviews though.

Tasha J December 22, 2015 at 9:15 PM

Ten sounds good! And so does The Good Daughters. Sometimes a smaller list is refreshing, it’s not too overwhelming for my tbr, lol. I have a question for you guys too, has anyone read Copygirl yet? It went on my tbr a while ago from one of these lists and I’m just in the mood for it and looks like the reviews are really good. But that price… :( it’s a little much for me with the holidays and all and I was hoping someone here might have it and if so and it’s lendable, may I borrow? I’d be happy to repay the favor! Thanks

M December 22, 2015 at 9:34 PM

Walk of Shame by Andrea Smith has been released. You still have it under pre-orders.. :)

Christine December 22, 2015 at 10:05 PM

Theresa December 22, 2015 at 10:46 PM

Karina Halle – Holiday Wishes is suppose to go live tonight/tomorrow accordinging to her FB page- finally

bev December 22, 2015 at 11:05 PM

Nothing this week is calling out to me. Which is a relief as sometimes the tbr can be overwhelming.

MichelleMarie December 22, 2015 at 11:26 PM

Theresa: Thanks for the heads up about Alessandra Torre’s short story sequel to Hollywood Dirt in the anthology For the First Time. Loved that book and am excited to read more about Cole and Summer (and of course, Cocky!)

MichelleS December 22, 2015 at 11:37 PM

Bev: I’m at 27% with Simon vs Homo Spaiens Agenda… LOVING IT… Going back to keep highlighting. Greatness….. (Just a quick update :-) )

bev December 23, 2015 at 12:36 AM

I’m glad MichelleS. I was a bit nervous as I know YA is not always your thing.

Lisa December 23, 2015 at 1:03 AM

The Storm just arrived on my kindle!! ;) First holiday read sorted.

Grey December 23, 2015 at 5:54 AM

Guess what I’m reading… well what is loaded onto the Kindle anyway. I won’t have time to read again until probably 3pm on Christmas day haha!

I’ll give you a hint… Maryse just reviewed it… *whistle*

Ela December 23, 2015 at 9:26 AM

Bev must be in reading recommendation heaven! I’m close to finishing Vision in Silver! I think I want to stay in PNR land and maybe do Kate Daniels?

bev December 23, 2015 at 9:36 AM

Grey, I think the courtyard would be a wonderful place to spend Christmas!
*fingers crossed* that you like it.

Ela, I need to get back ingo that series this year. Know it has a ton of love, especially on here.

bev December 23, 2015 at 9:54 AM

So, An Ember in Ashes is really working for me. I’m only 23%, so a way to go. But I think it will carry on.
It is not “light” but having fun with it. Any YA fantasy fans give it a look.
And it is fantasy. Based on ancient Rome, some magic, chosen ones, etc.

Ela December 23, 2015 at 10:03 AM

Sounds good!

fabi December 23, 2015 at 10:36 AM

Bev, I’ve had my eye on that one for a while. Let me know what you think when you finish.

Young December 23, 2015 at 10:39 AM

Ela, please read Kate Daniels series. They are so good!

Ela December 23, 2015 at 11:17 AM

Will do Young! I believe I actually have them on one of my reading apps!
Vision in Silver is awesome!

MichelleS December 23, 2015 at 2:29 PM

Bev – I just finished “Simon..”. Marathon read. Do you know how many errands I have to run and here I am blushing like a school girl. I blame you for my messy house and I sure hope the grocery store still has some decent rolls left. ARGH. I adored this book. 5 stars! I may follow you down that YA road because it just had all the “feels”. LOVED IT.

bev December 23, 2015 at 3:07 PM

Yay!!!! I just loved his pov. I only listened to the sample but think it might be a good choice for audible fans. I have to say I did think his friend had a right to have her feelings hurt. When the other three went out. I was like ugh that would hurt.

Ela I love the scritches, lol.

MichelleS December 23, 2015 at 4:33 PM

Yes, agreed, Bev. Didn’t quite get exactly why Leah was odd man out… Throughout the whole book, really. I was so sure I knew who Blue was. I was so wrong. I loved every word out of his cynical, snarky, witty, adorable mouth. Tiny school girl crush on the gay high schooler. Go figure.

Cheryl December 23, 2015 at 4:34 PM

I’ve been re- reading, ok skimming The Mighty Storm and Wethering the Storm in prep for reading The Storm. Can’t wait to find out what Jake f*&$ked up in his past that’s come back to haunt him and Tru!!

Also pre-ordered the Alessandra Torre anthology and one-clicked Winter Wishes.

Theresa December 23, 2015 at 6:17 PM

Tessa, about 25% through Cat and Bones. Don’t rush, she does a great job of explaining before each outtake but to tell you the truth it’s been so long I don’t remember the story anymore. They are talking about Hennessey and I don’t remember him. Must have been a big plot person – ugg.
I’m not going to re-read the series just because of this book.
So for it is nice to read but not a must read and I bet most if it was from outtakes on books you read.
Let me know if you have questions on which books the outtakes are from.

Theresa December 23, 2015 at 6:19 PM

Sharing other news! If you read Harper Sloan FB you know about her leggins- I am wearing a oair ad well. Like jammies!

bev December 23, 2015 at 9:48 PM

Lol. MichelleS I had a crush on Park. *shrugs*

Ok, I’ll admit. Part way through I gave in. I peeked.
*hangs head in shame*
Kinda wish I hadn’t. Just to see if I would of been able to narrow it down. I had a few guesses, lol.

bev December 23, 2015 at 9:51 PM

I feel like everybody is off holidaying (as Maryse says) while I’m reading fantasy and coming to chat about YA books. Should start wrapping gifts so I can see if I have enough paper. Though I would rather get back to my book.

Theresa December 23, 2015 at 10:19 PM

Bev, just you and me babe!
Callie Hart announceed a mini novella coming anytime on Amazon

bev December 23, 2015 at 11:20 PM

Someone is hopefully falling in love with a book and will be back to share.

Tessa December 24, 2015 at 12:33 AM

I did. I liked They Who Fell. It had issues, but the story was engrossing. I was starting the second of the series, but really wanted to read Ash by Leia Stone and Eve Jaymin more, :)

Lisa December 24, 2015 at 3:07 AM

Hi Bev and Tessa….Im losing myself in the courtyard in book 2. Was going to start The Storm but dont wanna be handling the angst over the holidays. I love the Others naivety. It makes their angst managable. :)
Merry Christmas to everyone here who makes me smile every day. Loves ya.

MichelleS December 24, 2015 at 10:34 AM

Bev – you peeked? That’s like peeking into the Christmas gifts. Ruins the whole thing!!!! As much as I want to sometimes, and believe me I do, I never ever peek. I don’t even look down on the page when I know something big is about to be said or revealed. It’s a weird rule I have for myself. No cheating. Ever.

So do the rest of you guys peek ahead when your curiosity gets the best of you?

Merry Christmas Eve to anyone reading this. Hope you all get a few minutes to enjoy a great book between all the errands.

Jean December 24, 2015 at 10:47 AM

Hi guys! Been so busy this week but wanted to pop in and wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

I noticed Fallen Crest Christmas released and thought of Tessa right away (and of course I 1-clicked it)!

Everyone’s talk of WiR has me wanting to get back to that series. I’m totally intrigued by this Simon and the Homosapien book too bev! I’m struggling to get some reading in between shopping, wrapping, and partying!

I’ve been loving the King series by T.M. Frazier. Flew through the first two books and 35% into Lawless!! So great!!!!!!!

Jean December 24, 2015 at 11:17 AM

First line Thursday:
I don’t know where it all went wrong.” Lawless, T.M. Frazier.

First line doesn’t do it justice! So great, but may be some triggers for some people.

bev December 24, 2015 at 11:37 AM

First line.

My big brother reaches home in the dark hours before dawn, when even ghost take their rest.~An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

bev December 24, 2015 at 11:39 AM

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!

Cheryl December 24, 2015 at 11:41 AM

Finished The Storm today, so not sure if that still qualifies as first line thursday. It was good, but not totally angsty like I thought it would be. What happens, happens fairly soon (it is a novella, so everything happens quickly). It does give more of Tru & Jake’s continued life together, and the ending was a surprise. Just not the kick in the gut I was gearing up for.

“F*ck, I’m hot. Why am I so hot? My arm is dead, and— what is that in my mouth? Hair?” The Storm by Samantha Towle. Yeh I know it’s more than one line, but it goes together. :)

Fabi December 24, 2015 at 12:28 PM

I seem to be on a CR kick. I’ve read several back to back and I’m starting another next. Of course, everyone else seems to be reading PNR. :-/

Oh well, at least I’m making a dent in my tbr. That always feels good.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday.

Fabi December 24, 2015 at 1:15 PM

(Copied from the embarrassing post on Suanne’s Fav List)

Hey guuuyyys. I’ve got one for you. Who is your favorite author of 2015? Not all time fav, but year fav?

I’m leaning towards Shay Savage, but the competition is fierce.

bev December 24, 2015 at 2:02 PM

Fabi, Rainbow Rowell. E&P was like the second book I read this year. I tried to read another book but put it down to read her Attachments. Then mid year read Fangirl and Landline back to back. Then Carry On last month. So, yeah she was the audience the author for me this year. Closest I’ve come to a glom in a long while.

fabi December 24, 2015 at 2:08 PM

What is a glom? I’ve seen the word a few times…

I forgot it was Thursday.

“I paced.”
Caged – Takedown Teague by Shay Savage

sheesh, I hope the book will be better than that first line indicates

bev December 24, 2015 at 2:22 PM

Jean, I know you are probably like 30 & out at ragers but I can not get over my “image” of you, lol. My idea of Jean at a Christmas party.

bev December 24, 2015 at 2:29 PM

Fabi, It’s when you read a book and love it so that you delve right in to the author’s back list. Or like Ela reading all the Other series in a row. Say you read Surviving Rain then immediately into Transcendence, then the Evan books.
When I was a teen at the library did it all the time. Stacks of Nora Roberts Silhouette books, whole shelf of Garwood, Kleypas etc.

bev December 24, 2015 at 2:31 PM

When I read At Peace I went on to Sweet Dreams and Mystery Man. I keep wanting to do it to the Kate Daniels series, lol.

fabi December 24, 2015 at 2:47 PM

Ok. Cool. I guess I do that all the time then. lol

Niki December 24, 2015 at 3:14 PM

Fabi, I’m going to say Mariana Zapata….Kulti will always be in my top reads!!! And she gave me a great Christmas present today on her FB page with a blurb from her next book due out at the end of February!!! Squeeee!!!

Niki December 24, 2015 at 3:19 PM

First Line Thursday:
“Almost every night, between nine and ten past, Lainie Graham passionately kissed her ex-boyfriend.” Act like it by Lucy Parker

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Jean December 24, 2015 at 4:06 PM

Fabi, that’s a tough one. Gotta think about it.

Bev, lol! You are too funny! And no I’m not 30……

Tessa December 24, 2015 at 4:26 PM

Merry Christmas Eve! Jean, I one clicked that the first day it was out. :) Bev, what book did you cheat with? I only cheat if the book is boring and I just want to know how it ends. Basically DNFs that have one mystery that keeps me reading. :)

Best author of the year? Hrm…. CL Wilson or Sarah J Maas? Both made me a life long fan.

First Line Thursday!
‘Rounding the corner of the path, I pushed myself harder, red and gold fall tress blurring in the peripherals as my legs demolished the last mile of my run. ‘
Ash by Leia Stone and Jaymin Eve

Descriptive if nothing else. Does it describe the book? NOPE. The book is good, though. It’s a new series so you all might avoid it, but I saw the name Jaymin Eve and I wanted to read it ASAP. I could not put it down last night. I finally slept at 1:30am (ish)

bev December 24, 2015 at 4:37 PM

Niki, that is a fun book. So much love for it and then I saw readers mention they imagined Richard Armitage and that was it. Must read, lol. Great banter.

bev December 24, 2015 at 4:39 PM

Tessa, not boring at all. I just had to get some sleep. Plus I used to peek at all my reads once upon a time. It was Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. One of my best of.

Tessa December 24, 2015 at 5:50 PM

That’s good! The cheating thing is my I’m bored thing, but each or us are different. I finally had given up on a book a little bit back, Claimed by Evangeline Anderson. Just… boring at the 60% mark.

Finsihed Ash. A really good starter book that had my attention the whole time. :D I loved it.

First Line Thursday:
“The Ferryman had six more fares in the back of his van and a long way yet to drive, so he didn’t stop at town.” – Land of the Beautiful Dead

Favorite author of 2015? I’m going to say it’s a tie between Grace Draven and Lauren Gilley. I was so impressed with Radiance that I will pay attention to what she writes. And LG is like my new KA. I love all her books so far. They are on my radar as of 2015.

Merry Christmas Eve all you wonderful, beautiful, smart, funny ladies! Thank you Maryse for keeping up with your blog – look at the little wolf pack you started! :-)

bev December 24, 2015 at 8:44 PM

I think may of posted this last time wolf pack was mentioned but …have to.
So who is who?

Maryse December 24, 2015 at 8:59 PM

I LOVE our wolf pack!!!!!

Merry Christmas to you too, MichelleS and ALL of you. I adore you guys.

MichelleS December 24, 2015 at 9:11 PM

Bev – there’s only one FOR SURE – Amy has to be Alan. Maryse would be Doug up on the roof. We are together because of her.

Maryse December 24, 2015 at 9:23 PM

I NEVER PEEK. *gasp* :P

Maryse December 24, 2015 at 9:26 PM

Thank you M!!! :D

bev December 24, 2015 at 10:00 PM

And Amy will be in Vegas this summer, maybe with Maryse (?)….”looking for cocaine and strippers”

Grey December 24, 2015 at 10:17 PM

First line Thursday…

Long ago, Namid gave birth to all kinds of life, including the beings known as humans. – Written in Red by Anne Bishop

Merry Christmas my dear friends!

Grey December 24, 2015 at 10:36 PM

I don’t know who my favorite author for 2015 is, that’s really hard!

LOL on our wolf pack! That’s one of my favorite movies ever! Although when I think of us.. I envision us more along more along the lines of the cast of Bridesmaids. *giggle*

bev December 24, 2015 at 10:58 PM

That’s awesome Grey. I really think it will make a good holiday read.

bev December 24, 2015 at 11:33 PM

A new 2015 favorite list is up. :-)

MichelleS December 25, 2015 at 10:06 PM

When I think of us I think of Steel Magnolias.

Merry Christmas ladies!
