Good morning, all! Maryse – My Torin is a must read for you. It has you written all over it, and I can’t believe you have not read it yet. I also found this angsty gem on Bookreads yesterday. I’m not sure if it ever made your list, but it sound so painfully beautiful: Don’t Be Afraid by CA Harms. Here’s the blurb, and it hurts so good:

re: My Torin–I mentioned the other day on GR that I was surprised you didn’t read My Torin the day it came out, Maryse. It’s a hauntingly, heartbreakingly beautiful, emotional romance, and I agree with Lisa and Jean–you need to read it!.
7 1/2 week’s left Leslie! I am hoping it’s a little sooner though, I’m getting anxious. My others were pretty well right on, so I’m hoping I at least get 1 a little earlier. May’s calendar is so full, especially at that time.

I got caught up on Scandal and I have to say, I am not thrilled w/final season. (I loved it before that. I adore Huck.) Only a few episodes left, so *fingers crossed* it gets better.
I’m one clicking too!!! I have read so many of K Webster’s books!!! Savage Prince gave me a book hangover. A must read!! So hot!!!! Has a cliffy but the next book comes out in April so it’s ok!!!

Leslie–I agree. I don’t even recognize many of the characters anymore, and I hate the way they’ve sidelined Fitz. There have been a couple of episodes with Quinn that have been awesome though.
Tasha, that reminds me of telling my siblings and their kids (some are my age) to make sure not to have babies in September. It’s too busy. They never listen, of course. 🙂 Besides, you don’t want it too early. You want a nice, healthy baby. Oh, and my niece is getting married next month. Her fiance was, of course, born in Sept.
I finished Thief by A. Zaverelli. Soooo good. Tons of angst and issues, but the series has to be read in order or else you get spoilers since the books are sometimes at the same moment. Think Kresley Cole’s Immortal After Dark series as far as timeline. Still, insanely good.
Nay, I LOVE Quinn & Charlie!! Can’t stand Cyrus or Olivia’s parents. Mellie is growing on me. I always love Fitz and Jake. Abbey makes me crazy and I want to throat punch Olivia this season.
I like Mellie better this season than I ever have! And I feel about the same as you about them all, except I’ve been back and forth about Jake, but I guess he has a reason to be messed up.
Tessa–Funny that you mention it because early this morning, I was looking at the Boston Underworld series, and when I saw how those of you who’ve read ‘Crow’ rated it, I moved it into my ‘next’ folder.
Oooooooo…….I love me some Scandal too! I’m absolutely in love with Jake, so hands off Girls! I fell in love with him along time ago when he was Noel Crane on Felicity. Have you watched Felicity? You have to binge watch Felicity, it was so good! One of my favorite series. I know in my heart of romantic hearts that Fitz and Olivia will end up in Vermont making jam at the end of the series. It HAS to be that way. But I am loving the journey getting there!
I finally caved for My Torin. This time around something clicked and it sounded good.
I also clicked Rise of the Iliri. It’s PNR and reverse harem. I’m on that!
Last Breath also caught my eye. All three characters look like they do such bad things and the men already have a relationship and then add the girl into the mix! Yep! One clicked.
Nay, they are seriously good. It’s really gritty and angst-filled, but I love reading them. There is no apologizing for being who they are. However, GRITTY and some major dark spots in each book (because, you know, mafia).
Lisa, that sounds SO good! Between KMLYMI, My Torin, and that one, I have some emotional reading to look forward to!! 😀

The “Real Techniques” makeup brushes make ALL the difference. I MEAN ALL.
I have been imitating these girls that I love on Youtube (bought the EXACT makeup palettes and do exactly as they do) and it’s been nice… but never amazing. Then I finally just got the brushes my favorite is using, and OMG I AM GLOWING from eyes, to cheeks!!!!
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT. The brushes I have are nice, soft, and I have ALL the various blenders, and whatever else. I have at least 25 various makeup brushes (many are the same, but from different manufacturers).
I just bought THIS ONE 3-piece kit, and I can do my entire makeup with it and LOOK like what I’ve been trying to “look” like.

I HATE Jake… like loathe his very existence. Gah! I wouldn’t piss on him if he were on fire. I am a true Olitz to the end. I agree, Leslie, this season has been rather hard to stomach in a lot of ways. I keep my white hat and wine bottle close by and try to remember the epicness of previous seasons when I get disillusioned.
I read My Torin in January. It was definitely a non -traditional story. Since I work with young men on the Autism Spectrum every day, I think I am Uber critical of characters described as “autistic”, you know? I did finish it. 😉

But I have to tell you my daughter number 3 has her formal in 2 days so I bought a dress online that said it would take 4- 10 days to arrive. I ordered it on the 3rd of March for the 29th of
March coming from the USA. So I checked the tracking and it said it hadn’t left the USA as yet. We had a back up plan another dress we found in a shop not as nice but passable so we decided we prob were not going to receive the dress in time. So we go to the shop and it’s gone into voluntary liquidation then I start to panic. 2 days prior to the formal and no dress. Find the same shop 11/2 hours away, drive all the way there buy an ok dress for $275.00 come home and 1 hour later the doorbell rings and the dress has arrived. Can’t take back the other dress. Who wants to buy a formal dress…………. But we have now 2 dresses but the one I ordered online is just perfect. So there was my stress day for yesterday.tomorrow is the formal.

Maryse, I cannot believe how cheap those brushes are!! I don’t wear eye makeup but am obsessed with foundation/powder/blush brushes. I am going to give them a try. Yay! I love a bargain.
I know Leslie!! The price can’t be beat especially for how good they are. I was amazed when my favorite makeup blogger mentioned and was using one of her favorite brushes for her eyeshadow… saying it just really almost seems to melt the makeup into a perfect blend, and when I looked it up, it was part of a 3 brush kit (with a case!) and it was CHEAP. MINE!!! 😀 I only used this kit today.

I have used a couple of their products and was impressed. The body lotion, well I doubt it firmed anything, but loved the smell.
I’m trying to carefully find what works for my skin not just what doesn’t make it react negatively.
I just ordered One Love Organics vitamin C serum to try. My skin burns very easily and I have not been the best at protecting it. I hope to stop some of the damage before it shows up as I near another milestone.
I have very oily easily congested skin but my new favorite thing to do is the 7 skin method though not always all 7. I’m surprised but I do notice my skin feels fresher and maybe plumper. Especially those two vertical lines between my brows. They won’t ever be gone, I make that expression, but I notice a difference. This:

I’m not a foundation user (never have been) and even my concealer is minimal and just a touch beneath my eyes, but I’ve noticed since i’ve been using the bare minerals powder foundation… just a light touch (it’s a very sheer powder so I don’t want a powder face since I’ve never gotten the hang of foundation), and I brush it all over my face with my Kabuki brush (in circles), my pores have gotten much smaller, no random pimples, and not clogged at all.
I KNOW it’s this stuff ’cause it has zinc in it, and zinc does wonders for my skin.
How I know that? ‘Cause when I had a MAC concealer in a tiny MAC pot, it had zinc. Whenever i’d use it to cover a pimple, the pimple would dry up and heal almost over night… flake off without a booboo.
Any other concealer I use doesn’t do that… even back then, so I’d always reach for my Mac pot to cover them, even thought it was a tad oilier…
The reason I reach for the Bare Minerals powder foundation now is because I love how it evens out my skin… a light fresh feel. And now since I think after month of using it, it’s working wonders on my skin, I will continue. 😀

I use bare minerals too! The 1-2 times a year I actually do make up, lol. But, I used to use it religiously back when I took the time to do make up. I like skin products more and have always needed to try diff. things Bc my skin sucks, except during pregnancy. That’s quite a routine Bev! It probably doesn’t help that I don’t wash my face enough…I just don’t like to take the time and the mess when you splash your face with water is annoying, so I wash when I shower. Which is no more than every 3 days…usually. Lol Sometimes every day, sometimes every other.

Funny thing about moisturizer, I went to the dermatologist and she has me not using any moisturizer for 14 weeks. I know I am older than you but she said as you age your production of collagen slows down and if you are slathering your skin with moisturizer you’re telling your skin to stop making collagen. Have to say my skin does not feel tight and dry like I thought it would. ( No snickering Amy, I know I said tight and dry!!) My skin actually feels better and “plumper.” I have also been using Obagi skin care products. Surprisingly the dermatologist only recommended using a few of the products. Less really is more.
I also started using Tom Ford stick foundation. You can go very sheer or heavier for more full coverage. Gives a dewy, youthful finish.
Oh I bet that Tom Ford stick foundation is heavenly. I love anything that makes my skin dewy and rosy (well… that would be a touch of blush). Amy introduced me to the best MAC blush ever. It’s SUPER pink… like almost obnoxiously pink, LIKE HOT MEDIUM-DARK PINK (not bronze at all) but on me? A few light circle strokes on my apples and it’s just a rosy glow and I’m addicted to it.
IT makes me look healthy and happy. All my eyes, lips, skin all done, and until I have that blush on, I look faded and pale… a light sweep and BOOM!!! HAPPY & HEALTHY! LOL!

My regimen is simple. I wash my face in the morning and night. I only use toner if I eat something oily or mayo (which is why I avoid those things). I NEVER put lotion on my face. Also, rather than something fancy, just clean and clear.
However, I almost NEVER put make-up on. Not because I don’t need it, but because I don’t want to bother. The exception is things like EOS to keep my lips moist or a stain like baby lips because my lips get super chapped if I don’t. That’s it. I’m boring as far as makeup goes. However, rarely pimples so I’m happy. When I do, it’s usually after eating something like potato salad with mayo. 🙂 SOOOO worth it.
Maryse, I just bought this TF blush stick. It is bright- just a couple dabs and rub in. The other end has a highlighter. Brightens and gives a “summer” touch of color.

bev… I know this question is for Tessa but I needed to jump in….
I RARELY ever use sunscreen because I NEVER go in the sun. At least not for more than 15 minutes full-blast.
IF I will be in the sun (like at the beach, or at a picnic or outdoor event -which is rare because the sun hurts – THEN I will use sunscreen and I will bring the whole time and SHOWER SO HARD when I get home to get that film off.

I don’t even get daily moisturizer with sunscreen… because I hate the feel no matter what.
It’s SO necessary, but since i hate the feel so much, I just avoid the sun altogether. Mind you… a few minutes of full sun every few days I enjoy because of the vitamins D. But not enough to get any real color on my skin.
Is it the big fluffy one to put the setting powder over everything? Do people use a mist now instead?
I use the Obagi sunscreen. I had skin cancer on my forehead and the doctor said I should wear it every day, year round. Even riding in the car you are exposed to the sun. It is comparable to the feel of a lightweight moisturizer.
Occasionally. I really should but I usually fail at that too. lol
Right now, I have run out. I just checked. I need to get the cheaper one, because I was using the water one, Blue Lizard, and that stuff is expensive for days I don’t play in the water.
I am with Maryse in that the feel of sunscreen bothers me. Yuck! But, my Bare Minerals powder foundation has spf 15 and is not icky at all. So at least I am getting some protection.

Okay just so I can lay out my steps too, I’ll post my morning makeup routine like Amy:
-moisturize eyes
-brush teeth while moisturizer absorbs
-mascara <--- YES. I AM BACKWARDS. I always start my routine with mascara because I get it ALL over my lids and under my eyes so I can really stretch out my lashes. Been doing it this way since I was 15. *sigh* It's wrong, I know... - uses kabuki brush to brush on Bare Minerals powder foundation (that brush feels SO good - like a mini face massage) -primes lips and does lips (neutral pink or neutral mauve lipliner (Mac Dervish or Whirl), long-lasting neutral pink or neutral mauve lipstick <-- Lancome - it has a wand) -now that lashes are dry, cleans up mascara mess with q-tips - eyeshadow primer -full lid base color, crease color, then that darker outer-eye corner color. Lots of blending. LOTS. Then on my small lid, I pat on a nice light peachy color or a neutral pinkish. Always neutral, but my current color obsession are neutral purples and neutral pinks (almost brownish purples) and burgundy-browns. Once blended, the burgundy is a dream. I LOVE IT. Stila palettes or Bare Minerals Color Pop palettes. - either black liquid eyeliner, or if I'm going for a more subtle look, a VERY DARK MAC burgundy eyeshadow that you can use a wet eyeliner brush in. -a light touch on my lower lid too, of an eyeshadow liner -Pink up my cheeks, and anywhere sun would hit my face <--- THIS makes ALL the difference in my "healthy" look. -finish with a neutral pink Bare Minerals Buxom gloss. It HAS to be buxom. It's long lasting, and it's got peppermint or something in it, so it tingles for a LONg time. Nice cool-feeling lips that almost do seem to plump. Fluff my lashes one last time with my fingers so they look natural and fluffy. If I feel my eye-shadow blending has lightened my mascara, I MAY do a light quick fluff coat of mascara (but am SO careful 'cause ... my eyeshadow!!! I'm a mess with mascara. LOL!) also with a light hand as I don't want that thick gunky look. And that's it. Now... on to curling my hair... 😉
Maryse…the MAC blush from the Nutcracker collection? It IS gorgeous. And like you said, it’s obnoxious looking in the container but just a light dusting gives you a lovely glow. 😉

I’m loving reading all the beauty info! Y’all are touching on 2 things that are huge in my life right now: 1) the need to adjust my makeup regimen to fit my age (I’m starting to wear makeup more often after years of wearing relatively none, and my face isn’t what it used to be. UGH!); and 2) the major importance for me to use a really good sunscreen every time I’m outside because of my suppressed immunity.
I’m wondering–do any of you have a good hat you wear to the beach or going out and about? I have to cover my scalp as well and don’t love wearing baseball caps all the time–too sweaty and are awful for hat-head. Sometimes I wear one of hubby’s do-rags from his biker days, but I want something a bit more fashionable (yet casual) sometimes. I’m looking for something softer–not like a fedora or cowboy hat.

LOL bev… you have me down perfectly. I am in a “beauty products” mode BIG time. Using colors I never would have used before and loving them. Realizing tools are as important as the colors, and… well. I also bought those “L’ange” curling irons that are clogging on my Facebook feed with review videos and how-to videos. Maybe it’s a mid-life crisis?

MARYSE! I have a beautiful eyeshadow combo you’ll have to try. You use MAC Yogurt as the base (lower lid and most of the top lid) then use two other brownish shades over top of it (I want to say Cork and Wedge or Saddle but I’ll have to check when I get home) and then blend, blend, blend!
