READER RECOMMENDATIONS: OUR THEME TODAY? Best of March!!
Where the Forest Meets the Stars by by Glendy Vanderah <— Tasha J chose this one!
Tasha J: March best was Where the Forest Meets the Stars for fiction/a little romance/feels and Fantasticland for horror/thriller/shock value cuz it tricked me into thinking it was real. Lol …it was wonderful! Just, perfect. No tears, safe for a cruise read. Not classified as romance, but does have just what I like! And it’s kindle unlimited.
- Soul’s Fire (The Northwomen Sagas Book 3) by Susan Fanetti <— Jan chose this one!
Jan: Soul’s Fire by Susan Fanetti. It’s been around for a while, but I just read it. Cool Viking HR. Beautiful love story with a hot English prince and a kicka$$ Viking shieldmaiden.
The Great Alone: A Novel by Kristen Hannah <— Nay chooses this one!
Nay: No question about it, my favorite book for March (and another that will be on my favorites list this year) was The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Gah! What a powerful book! And I think listening to the audio book made it even better.
- Force of Nature by S.L. Scott <— Nancy LOVED this one (just released yesterday!!!)
Nancy: Just so you know!! I really loved FORCED OF NATURE by S.L. Scott!!
The Last Romantics: A Novel by Tara Conklin <— Michele G chooses these:
Michele G: Fave read for March…it would be Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel…but I technically read that in January. So, it’s going to have to be a tie between… Hollywood Dirt which is an oldie (cause it sat on my TBR for a long while) and The Last Romantics: A Novel which is a newbie…loved them both and they were totally different books!

The Skull King!!!!!! Yes!!! That’s what I’m reading today! Good morning!! So many good ones today!! Loving my L’Oréal Paris & Primer Mascara!! Every time I put it on wow!! Why did I not know about this before. Have to check out the makeup list again. I’m sure I’m missing out on another must have!!
I KNOW IT right, Lisa?? I’m in love with it. My lashes are always fluffy and separated it’s that amazing of a formula!
Bummer I missed last nights cocktail party. 🙁 How about a coffee party now?
*holds out mug for refill*
*pours coffee for Leslie*
*stares longingly at the sweet-dessert creamers*
Finished a really good book. Now started an old Amy rec, My Life Next Door, from my spring tbr.
This was a song rec I got recently. Love it. Beautiful song, voice, and mv. Read the lyrics, doesnt it remind you of a book?
https://youtu.be/fwetVfkOBuE
What did you just finish reading Bev? I read My Life Next Door and liked it also…
Leslie, we missed you at the cocktail party…Maryse makes a great dirty martini!!
Every time J.R. Ward has a new release, I realize I don’t even know how far behind I am now with her books…
The Dream sounds right down my alley…
Every time I woke up last night (which was a lot) after my Grand Marnier indulgence, I kept hearing Tessa say “hydrate!” So I hydrated. All night. And today I feel great! 😀
YAY bev! I loved that one and still do. By the way, that woman’s voice is beautiful. And the setting makes me miss Japan soooo much. Yes, I know it’s a Korean video, but Japan has similar gardens and scenery. 😉
Okay, what’s this mascara we’re talking about? I’ve been MIA so much lately it looks like I missed out on a great rec…
Amy!!! This one!! L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise (Blackest Black). I’ve been using it for a year or two now, exclusively and I LOVE IT!!! And it’s only $10!
Leonie Hendricks, Demon PI by Deborah Wilde, a spin-off from the Unlikeable Demon Hunter series (which I absolutely adored) was released today.
Okay, best of March time! Mine is hard to choose because the 4 that stood out, while three are PNR, are just so different.
Year One by Nora Roberts was so intense. Amy, read this series when the whole thing is released! It’s intense the same way that Until the End of the World was, but not zombies, just Apocolypse with fairies, witches, and all.
Fairy Touch by Ella Summers – continues the series. If you haven’t read it, and like pnr/ fantasy, go read it. 🙂
Broken Wings by Jaymin Eve and Tate James – OMG this book was my fantasy mix. Bully book with James’ great plot and story telling with Eve’s wonderful character writing. *thunks* Not reverse harem! Just bully book with great characters. GREY! FYI! It’s KU!
Wild Country by Anne Bishop – HOLY CRAP! This one was so full of tension and worry, happy moments, humor, and hope, and just so MUCH. This had all the greatness that was in The Others books but in one package. Also, it does correlate a bit with parts that happened in The Others series, and mentions or relates to people from that series in a way that really impacted the plot of both this book and the Others series.
Michele–I was just about to say that yet another BDB book is out and I can’t read it because I’m still behind! Two books and two novellas behind if you count the Black Dagger Legacy series, which I do since it ties into BDB. After ROTS releases, I AM going to get caught up on my BDB reading!
Oooh, The Skull King sounds awesome!
I just finished The Wicker King.
Amy, let’s go.
*covers Jan’s ears*
Next summer let’s go to Japan and Korea.
Bev, what did you think of the book?
I heard that bev. Fickle, fickle woman. *whines* Now who’s gonna come to Scotland wth me? Melinda, are you still in?
Ooh. New Kate Canterbary alert. And it’s on KU 😀
Okay Maryse, I’m swinging by Walmart tomorrow and picking up some of that mascara tomorrow. Never mind I just bought two new mascaras at Sephora earlier. 🙄
Tessa…I added the books to my watch list on ereaderiq. You had me at UTEOTW!
bev…you, me, Japan, Korea. Next summer. It’s on.
And I was wondering why we covering Jan’s ears. Ooooooh, bev got busted. *giggle*
Well….we could go into massive debt and do a world tour.
You know bev, I’m liking that idea. We can buy now, pay later 😀 I saw a fabulous doco recently on the life of the Japanese painter Hokusai (The Wave) and it made me really wanna go to Japan. So yeah. I’m in.
I can see this conversation.
Jan: I’m going to Korea and Japan next summer.
Husband: Um….what? Where?
Jan : Yeah, Korea and Japan. Then probably Scotland.
Husband: When did we decide this?
Jan: We didn’t. Amy and bev did. And you know how I feel about Highlanders and kilts.
Husband: Amy and bev???
Jan: Amy really likes mascara. And sake. Everyone knows Japan has the best mascara. And sake. Bev likes kpop.
Husband: Jan. Wait. Are you taking your school kids on a trip?
Jan: No. They’re 40.
Husband: Who are they??? Have I met them.
Jan: I haven’t even met them. They’re my online friends. I talk to them on Maryse’s blog. Maybe Maryse will go.
Husband: They could be cat fishing you. Or murderers.
Jan: *rolls eyes* I doubt murderers have stuffed manatees and blanket forts. By the way did I show you this post Maryse wrote on how I can leave her my books if I die?
Husband: You’re going to regret this.
Jan: I think not.
BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
*falls over while holding side from laughing so hard*
LOL!!!
Lol.
I was going to say the closest we will get is a kcon.
But let’s be realistic.
The closest will probably be me eating ramen as I post kpop mvs on here.
*giggles*
bev you are so sweet and hilarious. How do you know my husband so well??????? Actually, he knows I’ll be going without him, cos I can’t get him to board a plane. True story. Last time I went to England I went with my sister. So he’ll deal with me going with my online gfs. He would be worried about cat fishing if he knew what it was. I don’t either LOL, but I’m guessing some kind of online scamming. Ha ha ha. Hey, me and my hubs are real cool guys. Really! We know about, um, stuff…….. er……
BTW, I started the new Kate Canterbary book and it’s hilarious. I didn’t really enjoy the last book I read about the melodrama of online dating apps, but this one is really good so far. Such funny conversations with guys who only want to get into her pants.
What did you choose for Amazon first? I can’t decide between Cold Waters, One Word Kill or The Overdue Life of Amy Byler.
Tasha…I picked The Overdue Life one. I was happy to actually find one I’m interested in because some months there is NOTHING appealing to me from the offered books.
Last month my pick was I’m Fine and Neither Are You, so YAY for two months in a row of good picks! 😀
Amy and Tasha, I picked The Overdue Life one too.
Did anyone read “I’m Fine and Neither Are you” yet?
Hi All my lovelies-I miss you ALL!!! Just wanted to pop in and say Hi and it looks like I popped in at a good time as I can always count on Bev to bring the *giggles* out of me! . The Jan and her Husband *fake* conversation just priceless.
Remember that book I laughed at the extreme title, reverse harem, bully, blah, blah… and then said I’m definitely reading it? 🙂 GAH! I can’t stop thinking about it, especially that ending. It doesn’t end on a CH, but it’s the end of her first year at the academy, but that end. Filthy Rich Boys by CM Stunich. If Grey read RH, I’d be pushing this book so much. The bullying and the story and then that ending. GAH! SOOOO GOOOD!
I just finished The Girl He Used to Know … and wow! This story is about Annika and Jonathan. It is a second chance romance and goes back and forth between present and past and gives both POVs. The clincher is Annika has autism spectrum disorder. I love books by Tracey Garvis-Graves! You have to read this book!
Mona YESSSS I LOVE THAT AUTHOR!!! I have this book and I think it’s just what I’m in the mood for, this weekend.
I’m on the floor reading Bev’s run down of Jan’s and her husband’s “conversation” above…made my morning!
Mona, I just got The Girl He Used to Know from the library. It’s joined the massive pile of books I want to read NOW. I actually really have a bunch that I want to dig into right this minute…it’s a good problem to have. I’ll take it 🙂
Jenn, good to see you pop in!!
Ok, I picked that one too Amy!
J deleted the Notes app on my phone. I am devestated. I didn’t realize which 1 it was, but I knew something was missing and I needed to add a thought and it wasn’t there! Omg I had so many things in there. Passwords, quotes, lists stacked on lists.
Tasha I LIVE AND SCHEDULE MY “TO DO” life on my NOTES app.
I would CRASH.
I feel like I have a slight shopping addiction. Even if I’m not purchasing the items, I’m searching constantly and adding them to must have lists. I go through spurts and I’m currently in one deep. Maybe it’s mostly when the seasons change? I dk, but there are so many sales and shoes and new bright clothes. Why is it that I never have any clothes? And Easter toys and birthdays and what not. And books. And now make up.
That’s currently how I feel. I’m in a state of shock. YEARS of notes on that app. And things that were stored nowhere else.
Why is there no save button on the darn thing anyway? Like, if something were to happen we shouldn’t just have to rely on cloud. Which won’t have all my stuff bc some were just “on my phone” and I never update the thing to the computer.
You know, I just don’t think I’m much of a shadow girl. I’ve tried and tried to like the looks of the blending of a couple colors and what not, like with the Naked 2 palette and I got a Smashbox snapshot thing that has 3 and I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them. Today is my favorite makeup look I’ve done and all I did was bring my “bronzer” up to the eye. It’s actually Make up forever highlight/sculpt/blush powder in shade 116). Maybe I’m not getting the colors right. Or maybe I’m so used to my face uncovered that I can’t get on board with it done. I’ve always only used 1 color on the kid alone, maybe that’s it? I don’t know.
*lid alone. Lol
Tasha, what type of eyes do you have? There are a lot of youtubes to make shadows look good if your eyes aren’t able to take the “typical” style the shadow palettes recommend. Mine are extremely deep set, so I look like a raccoon if I do what it recommends.
I dk….small eyes. Lol. All of my facial features are petite so I feel like it looks overwhelming maybe. Too dark/too light/too grey/too brown.
But then I used my old shadow, a shimmery pale pink on 1 eye and did it The way the videos show with Naked pallet on the other and Naked looked better. But not quite something. I can’t put my finger on it.
I asked but to get an idea, this is one I really loved and helped me (again, it’s because of the type of eyes I have) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYW9i3521yQ As you can see, it is NOTHING like the shows give. That’s why I’m asking. There are a lot of good videos out there to get eye makeup to really pop.
Ugh, thanks Tessa. Now you’ve got me adding contour pallets to my cart. 😛
I watched your video, touching my eyes, wondering if maybe mine are different shaped (I have no idea, lol) and then I started clicking on more and more videos and now I’m lost over here wanting this other look from a video with the pallets. She uses it up on her eye too, like me, but it’s like a 10 min. face that looks really natural and everything is in 1 place. The blush, bronzer, shadow, all of it. Well, except the mascara and lip. This is what I’ve been doing for a week (or 2?) now, watching all these stinking videos until my brain wants to explode. I’m as lost and overinformed as ever. There’s so many things I’ve not heard of or ventured into and it’s nuts. NUTS! Primers and setting sprays and cc creams and serums and brow pencils and brow gels and eye creams and sticks for everything, powders, creams, do’s and don’ts and *deep breath*….Anyway…..here’s a video of the look. Lol https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-MrHz9Ok2IM
I like it for everyday so there’s not too much thought into it. But, I wonder if I do want a bit of something more for fun days. Minimal fun. Not in your face fun. I wish my brain would stop spinning.
It’s pretty, but it seems like so much makeup just to get a natural look.
Of course I dont wear any so anything would seem like a lot.
I’m a low maintenance kind of person…I could never deal with all those steps and products for makeup! 😉
I want to read “The Girl He Used To Know” but will have to wait to see if my library buys it. I read Daisy Jones and the Six this past week and had to wait for them to buy that one. It was worth the few week wait. 5 star read for me! It was written so differently, like an interview. I first started reading it and I saw that and I was like, ut oh but was pretty quicky drawn into the story.
It is, but it’s more low maintenance than a lot of other looks I’ve seen. And I modify a bit for myself. I’ve never used highlighter. And now with the Dr. Jarts, I’m not using foundation as much. And I’ve never done any setting sprays. Lol
I think my face looks better with products to achieve a natural look than without. Of course if I had awesome skin, I would do without all of it except eyes and lips. Wouldn’t that be great?
Good skin is one of my envies.
FLT: The Garretts were forbidden from the start.
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick.
On a side note I’m loving the “Spring” mix I made. I keep listening to it. Some make me want to get up and move and others just mellow me out. Lol. I still need to fine tune it and hope to add more. Just one of those little things that can give you happiness.
Tasha, https://www.beautylish.com/a/vcacj/whats-your-eye-shape That might help. Honest truth, I barely do much to my eyes when I do them, but it helped to know that my eyes demand the opposite of what the directions say. Less raccoon looks. 😛
So, last night was nightmare time again. 3 in a row again. The first was so bad my brain fooled me into thinking I heard my alarm clock. I went over to it and not only wasn’t it going off, but it was also 11:45 pm! *bangs head* Needless to say, today I want to sleep!
“Everything my mother knew about life she learned from Mister Rogers.”
Eleanor & Grey by Brittainy C. Cherry
How’s that for an opening line? 🙂 Pretty light-hearted considering I think this is one of my favorite type of heart-breaking books…
I wanna watch that Mr. Rogers movie!! Supposedly I met him when I was very little (I was at the hospital and he came to visit the children’s ward). I wish I could remember it.
Tessa…I’m thinking you’ve mentioned the word bully twice in the comment section and directly said my name…it’s like catnip. I’m feeling a little faint, I might have a fever, I think I need to be excused from work. 😆
Now I just have to go back and was thru all of them again to write the titles down, eek!
bev, I was dying at the convo, too funny!!!
I’ve got 2 proofs this month, but I will be on Spring Break soon, so yayyyy, can’t wait!
I need to backtrack and find this hilarious bev post!!!! I wanna laugh too.
I’ve been missing, but it’s ’cause I’m doing such much needed upgrades to the blog (on the back end of it, anyway). Tee hee! I said back end. 😉 All that to say… I’m here!!
Grey, I got lucky! Two in about a week. One is not Reverse harem, and you’ll love: Broken Wings by Jaymin Eve and Tate James. Part of my March favorites. If you are willing to try an RH, Filthy Rich Boys by CM Stunich. OMG, the tension is there, but that end… It truly was not what I was expecting. Jaw dropping but not a CH. It was “year one” of the series. Both are KU. 🙂
I don’t remember who recommended Midnight Valentine but Thank you! It was really good, put it on your list and move it to the top.
Maryse, YES! You’re coming too. Yay! Cherry blossoms in Japan, take in (or join in 😉 ) the Mud Festival in Korea https://www.mudfestival.or.kr maybe take in a boy band or two, then onto the highlands of Scotland for men in kilts. Who else is coming with?
OK, ahem. Now for FLT. “There’s something I’d like to discuss with you, Magnolia Lynn.” from The Magnolia Chronicles by Kate Canterbary.
The first part is a really funny take on dating apps. But now it’s turned into a love triangle. Eep! Not my fav thang usually. I’m #team ben but I’m not sure what’s gonna happen. I’m being very careful not to read any spoilers. One thing I’m enjoying is that characters from the Walsh series are popping in.
*sips coffee while daydreaming about tall, redheaded men in kilts*
I want to see men in kilts
FLT: Testosterone and entitlement. The air is thick with both.
Block Shot by Kennedy Ryan
I’m starting The Highwaymen on Netflix. Anything Bonnie and Clyde? Yes, please! Anyone watched this yet?
Oh, my FLT is “I see the moment he first notices me.” Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone
Yay Sandi. Join us for our world tour! The more the merrier.
Leslie your flt made me giggle. I’m going to try that one.
Okay so here’s my latest update!!
The blog (and all of us) are moving to a new server. Upgraded server, upgraded software, upgraded everything. We should be even faster BUT you shouldn’t notice a difference in the move at all. It will be same old, same old, and just come on in like normal. No web address change or anything at all. Comments the same, even our cute monster avatars will be the same.
Right now, I’m in “transition” mode (or staging) and I’m making sure everything is functioning on the new server and that will take a few days before the new server goes LIVE.
The blog will look pretty much the same – a few changes due to how old the blog design is and some things are not transitioning as well, but overall, it will still look and feel (and navigate) – the same – comments section and all!
All of our blog posts since 2009, all of our lists, all of our categories, our reader questions… nothing changes. ALL there.
There *may* be a few hiccups at first when it goes live so bear with me while we fix bugs (IF there are any). Fingers crossed, no. The mobile version will be SO much better than what it is right now (so mobile users, you will notice a significant change but a GOOD one). Functional menu (and a nicer look – but nothing too crazy – just more functional). 😀
It will likely go live next week, and I will announce it when we do.
I will be updating the design one day but not yet… one step at a time. 😉 LOL!! I struggle with change. *snort* 😛
Cool blog! Here for the first time. Goin’ thru the lists. Haven’t had a chance to read anything new the past few months, it’s been pure hell! my TBR list is way too long. Finally ready to binge read! *way too excited to sit still*
Welcome Scarlet!!!! I’m so glad you’re here with us. I’m updating lists and making new ones as we speak!! 🙂
