BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order)
Beneath Your Beautiful (The Beautiful Series Book 1) by Emery Rose <— R. IS LOVING IT! The bar owner she’s so into… “All I wanted was a fresh start in a new city…and a bartending job. I never intended to fall for the sexy, tattooed bar owner. Dark. Brooding. Emotionally unavailable. But Killian Vincent is a challenge I can’t seem to walk away from…“
R: I’m reading Beneath Your Beautiful, a debut by Emory Rose, and I’m loving it. It’s sitting at over 4.5 stars on GR, which is crazy high so I couldn’t resist.
The Ribbon Duet by Pepper Winters <— BACK ON THE LIST ’cause Bea LOVED this duet!
Bea: I have been a “lurker” on this blog for a while and have found many wonderful reads thanks to your insights . Today I must speak up and share my feelings about The Ribbon Duet. Never has an author caught me on a line like this before. Book one seemed sweet, but just a bit off, but just SO good!! Of course I had to buy book two! I was still a bit unsure, but by the middle of book 2, my heart had been ripped from my chest! I imagined it laying on the floor beating for one last gasp of blood, like a fish out of water. Never before has a book made me picture my internal organs. This is the highest praise I can imagine.
- The Score (Off-Campus Book 3) by Elle Kennedy <— ELLE KENNEDY SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! This is one of my 5-STAR FAVORITES!!!! Don’t miss this one!!! In fact, here’s my review.
Not So Nice Guy by R.S. Grey <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK!!! Swoony ROM COM ALERT!! Jen C recommends it!!
Jen C: I finished Not So Nice Guy yesterday-ish and it was a really good, solid rom-com. I was swooning and chuckling the whole way through.
- The Seven Series Boxed Set (Books 1-3) by Dannika Dark <— DANNIKA DARK SERIES BUNDLE SUPER-BARGAIN!!!
Jan: I loved the Seven series by Dannika Dark. Wolf shifters but it’s not all about the pnr – more about the people and their relationships and adventures.
Bright Side by Kim Holden <— ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES is super-bargain priced right now!!! This is an absolute MUST-READ (just ask anyone who’s read it!!!!) P.S. Here’s my review.
Veronica: My most epic read would have to be Bright Side by Kim Holden. …a book that stays within you for life.
Jean: …I’m broken on the inside, but it was just so beautiful. I loved every single character in Bright Side, but Kate…..well, she was inspiring and awesome and everyone should have someone like her in your life if possible! Her positivity was infectious with everyone she met! You couldn’t help but love her! Feeling like I have to move right onto Gus now because, well, ya know…. (BTW, I think I went through an entire box of tissues with this one)!
Tessa: I will say, if you can take heartbreak (Which you know I rarely do) read it. It’s one of those that just sticks and is so beautifully written, I actually don’t curse it. *yes, I curse a LOT of the ones that make me cry*
Nay: Maryse! You NEED to read Gus. I loved it even more than Bright Side, probably *because* it was a ‘healing’ book. It was wonderful!

Early day…good morning!!
SUPER-early!!!!! I haven’t even had my coffee yet…
Good morning Tasha! 😀
Morning! *tosses glitter* even though I’m late…or Tasha was really early! 😆
I’ve read 3 that are out today. The Raging Ones. I absolutely loved. 5 star. Fantastic.
The others are Blind Kiss by Renee Carlino and Trick Play by Max Monroe. I’ve been a very busy girl, lol!
Also, Maryse, Emma Scott is officially releasing Bring Down the Stars next Monday 8/20. Thank you so much for all you do here. You’re a rock star!
Me either, but I’m ready for it. Just don’t wanna wake the baby. The sacrifice!! I also have a super full bladder, lol.
Thank you Grey!!! 😀 I can’t wait until Emma’s goes live. 😀
How’d you like “Blind Kiss”?
Oooh, I forgot about Blind Kiss. Looks like Wolfsong will have to wait a day or two.
Good morning!! We have a bunch of early birds today.
I am reading a really interesting book. Since we just got back from New Orleans, we went on a tour about a plantation and slaves. So I thought this book might be really insightful.
I found a book called “The boy and his ribbon” and it’s really good. I’m only at 40% but it’s amazing what a human can go through and survive.
I think there is romance in the book. But it’s a really nice read so far.
Good morning! I need sunglasses to shield my eyes from all those shinies! Lots of good looking ones this week. *rubs hands together*
Melinda – I loved the ribbon duet! Will stay with me forever. Unforgettable!
It’s pouring here! Good reading weather.
I’m thinking My Oxford Year is up next in the que. with all that love in the review, who can resist.
Well drat! It’s 9.99… but my library has the audio book… so it’s on hold for me. Yippee. Hope it doesn’t take too long for my turn. There’s a movie coming out? Now I really want to read it.
I’m still trying to read Heart of the Fae. Honestly I might as well wait until school starts. Just 1 week left!!! Today I am feeling SO ready for it. Others, not so much. Anyway, I got an email that a boom on my tbr list released today. It’s a nice little surprise when I forget about books I’m looking forward and they pop up available. https://www.amazon.com/Girl-Stars-Ashley-Herring-Blake-ebook/dp/B073XCKFJ3/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1534259217&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=girl+made+of+stars
I started Wild Hunger last night, pretty much as soon as it hit my Kindle. If nothing else, read the prologue. UTTER CUTE! 🙂 That said, I fell asleep pretty quickly so I’m only one chapter two or three-ish.
I had one of the worst nightmares last night. UGH. Worse, even awake and with it, it still is freaking me out. Usually, you can explain away things, but this one was so much like a horror movie I can’t shake it. YUCK. Worse, the cat woke me at 4am to go outside and I was so grateful because it stopped the nightmare. Then, I went back to sleep, thinking that was enough time for a new dream, and NOPE. It went onto the sequel. 🙁
Sorry Tessa.
I hate bad dreams. Nothing worse than waking up and or scared.
I used to have a recurring one that I hated. Did not want to go back to sleep after I woke up. Luckily have not had it in years.
The dream would always be different but all of a sudden I’d know I was dreaming. I’d tell myself to move and couldn’t. I’d tell myself to wake up and couldn’t. In the dream I’d start to panic and tell myself to calm down that I’d wake up soon.
When I’d wake up I’d feel such relief and left over panic. I’d not go back to sleep, lol.
Knock on wood. I do not want that one to come back.
I have a lot of dreams. I’ve never not had a dream while sleeping. However, usually, if I wake up and do something, the nightmares go away. This time was different. UGH
My poison apple air plant has shipped and will be here soon. *rubs hands together*. I wanted to put it in my kitchen windowsill, but it’s too small to put anything there. So, I’ve been wanting to add little side shelves to the cabinets by that window for a while now, but I’ve also wanted to paint the cabinets first. I’ve never painted kitchen cabinets before and I think it’s gonna be harder than say, a wall. Lol. Cheryl, didn’t you paint yours a while ago? Any tips? Do I sand them down 1st? They’re painted now. Do I prime 1st? Is there a special type of paint to use? A special top coat?
Amy, (or anyone who remembers) what was that yummy crockpot chicken recipe you posted before? I think it had pesto???
It says I’ve posted, but it’s not showing up….the link for the pesto chicken https://www.themagicalslowcooker.com/slow-cooker-pesto-mozzarella-chicken-pasta/
That sucks it’s back to 10 dollars.
I think most of us grabbed The Oxford Year when it was on sale a couple weeks ago….1.99 or something?
I think I’m going to stay away from spoilers and read it when the weather cools. Take a nice trip to Oxford this fall.
It is so smoky here. Who wants to spend August in Oxford next year? A nice walking trip of England.
Let’s just do it.
Let’s re read Austen and the Bronte sisters and walk the fields and Moores.
Or let’s re read LM Montgomery and go hang out in Avonlea?
Or re read Harry Potter and take a train trip from London to Scotland.
Let’s do a DAYDREAM GAME.
If we each had a week in the summer and the money.
And we decided by vote.
First Round:
North America
South America
Asia
Europe
Australia
Africa
Antarctica
My baby got her Lerner’s permit today. God help us!!
I like everything about Blind Kiss except the price. Think I’ll wait. Trying to be good and just get KU books.
Reading Not So Nice Guy. It’s a lighthearted good, not great read so far.
Tasha, painting cabinets is now on my list of things I NEVER want to do again. It’s very time consuming and tedious. Also, I painted a lot of cabinets, because did mud room too. That said here’s the steps:
1. Clean thoroughly. I used Krud Kutter (HD or Lowe’s has) and a good no scratch sponge. This is probably the most important step.
2. Sand with 180 grit sandpaper and wipe down with damp cloth/ tack cloth and vacuum.
3. Prime- one coat. I used Sherwin William white pigmented shellac primer. Stinks, but works great. I used mohair roller (Sherwin William) and good angled brush. I did sacrifice the brush because it is NOT soap and water wash up.
4. Sand again with 220- grit sandpaper. Wipe with damp cloth/tack cloth.
5. Paint- two coats. I used Sherwin Williams Proclassic Interior waterbased Acrylic-Alkyd Enamel. Also used mohair roller and angled brush to cut in. You don’t need to sand in between these coats.
When you take down doors and drawers label them. Initially wrote # on blue paint tape and attached, then I used a sharpie to write the # where the hardware was.
I did not paint the insides of the cabinets- just the front facing, except on the 3 cabinets I have that are glass fronted, those I painted the inside on.
I decided after starting on cabinet bases that I wanted to have the doors professionally done-sprayed. I’m glad I did, the finish feels silky smooth and I probably still would be working on them. I just called a local company that does cabinet work. Around here, they were much cheaper than the paint company’s and willing to work with me doing the rest of the cabinets.
Good luck!! 😉
Thanks Tasha!! That is the recipe. Ugh! That cabinet painting sounds way too time consuming. I painted mine when I lived in an apartment. I did not do any sanding but had to use lots of stinky primer. It was a long time ago but I know I got everything at Sherwin Williams. Even without sanding, it was a lot of work.
Bev, I want to travel everywhere!! But I’d pick Europe first.
Cheryl, I dread my son ever driving. So scary.
This sounds like a royal pain in the butt. I’m going to see if anyone around here does them for decent price now. Lol.. Luckily, I don’t have many, small kitchen, but I bet enough work that I’ll be cursing for years to come. I was just wanting to do those 2 cabinets first and do the rest when I have time, but I suppose if I’m going through all that hassle with supplies I’d rather get it done in 1 shot. Thank you!
Mine’s easy. I’d not only spend a week there, I’d live there in a heartbeat: Australia!!!!
I’m Europe too.
So:
1 for Australia
2 for Europe
Europe!
Europe!
Australia – snakes and critters scare me, and the plane ride to & fro…. no way! Other than that, is love it, surely. Oh! And Christmas in summer. My Northern Hemisphere old self can’t wrap my brain around that.
4 Europe
1 Australia
Lol, I always forget that if you visit Australia in the summer you end up in their winter.
I’d want to go to the South Pacific, like Bali or Tahiti.
And a write in for Oceania.
Europe.
5 for Europe
1 for Australia
1 for Oceania
Been to Australia and loved it but wouldn’t want to go back during their winter.
Think I like the idea of Bali too, but I’ll say Europe specifically Spain.
Happy Birthday, Maryse!!!
Yes! Hope you have a wonderful birthday, Maryse!!

Happy, Happy birthday to Maryse!!!! Enjoy your day. xoxo
Let me catch up real quick…
First off, I vote for Australia!
Anyone considering reading My Oxford Year really SHOULD read it, even if it means waiting for it to drop in price again…Leslie, that pesto mozzarella chicken is AMAZING, let me know what you think of it…I hate disturbing nightmares that leave you troubled for hours :?…awww Cheryl’s baby girl is driving!…now I need to go and look up what the heck a poison apple air tree is…
Lol, Amy. I found it on Etsy. I was looking for a skull planter to put a cactus brain in and can across a poison apple planter for an air plant. I also found dinosaur painted planters for air plants and now my toddler and I have a diy project planned for it. I’ll see if I can link it…
Poison apple air plant holder, desk planter, villains, dorm room decor, just one bite by RedwoodStoneworks on Etsy

Lol, guess not
I went to look that up. Dang. That thing is deadly, isn’t it? 0.0 Even just touching it can cause issues. I couldn’t have it even if I wanted it. The cats would do something and probably die. 🙁
What’s deadly? The plant? Is that sarcasm Bc I didn’t read that…
No. It really is deadly if it’s the one that’s referred to as poison apple plant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchineel
Oh, it’s a planter! Not the plant. *blushes* Well, then that’s cool. The plant… not so cool. lol
Holy cow! Yes, not that one, lol!
Aretha Franklin passed away.
So sad, but what a legacy.
And that VOICE.
Happy Belated Birthday Maryse!!
A little late to vote but mine would totally be Australia!
FLT:
“I gasp for air.”
Force of Gravity by Kelly Stevenson
I finished The Idea of You today (HIGHLY recommend if you love age gap romance), so since I’m in the mood for more forbiddeny romance, I’m going to give this teacher/student book that’s been on my tbr since 2014 a try.
Does anyone else have a favorite taboo teacher student book to recommend in case this one doesn’t work for me? I’ve read most of the biggies except for Loving Mr. Daniels, but I’m looking for something less tame than that.
FLT: “I was seven-years-old when my dad left us.” Bring Down the Stars by Emma Scott
Nay, Gabriel’s Inferno is my fave, but people either love it or hate. Rarely see anyone in between. (And Passionflix is doing the movie **squee**) Love that series hardcore.
I also just read Waking Olivia by Elizabeth O’Roark which I loved. It’s not all that taboo, but has both (semi-taboo) “teacher”/student trope and enemies to lovers.
I started 2 different books today. Mostly because one is on my phone and one on my tablet. Only a few pages into both.
FLT #1: Ravensong by TJ Klune
THE ALPHA said, “We’re leaving.”
FLT #2: By The Book by Julia Sonneborn.
“WHAT TIME’S YOUR CLASS, Anne?” my best friend and fellow English professor Larry asked.
This was the #18, or whatever, on my tbr list. I couldn’t remember what it’s about ….well it’s a modern retelling of Persuasion. No wonder I bought it, I love Persuasion. 🙂
I loved this little conversstion and hope the humor stays like this:
I mean, can you believe it? Burning Man? Why not just say you’re sick?”
“At least he’s being honest,” Larry said. “I mean, I wish I were at Burning Man.”
“DELETE,” I said. “God, why don’t they make kids take a class on e-mail etiquette during freshman orientation? You know, like address your professors by their full title, not ‘Prof’ or ‘Yo.’ ”
“I once got an e-mail from a student that began with ‘What up, Lar?’ I have to admit, I was a bit charmed.”

Blackout by Danika Dark
Tasha, this is day or so late so I hope you see this. I painted ugly brown cheap kitchen cabinets with a product called Cabinet Rescue. I bought it from Lowes. It’s white and almost 7 years later looks great. Just a few minor touch ups. I highly recommend it. I didn’t prime, just lightly sanded before painting. It has a finish not like paint but harder, more durable. Hard to explain. Check it out. It wasn’t hard, just a bit time consuming. I painted 28 cabinet doors and 4 drawers. 🙂
My sister just arrived for a visit! Yeh!!!!

My phone buzzed as I ducked my head to fit through the door on to my flight, and I glanced down to see who it was.
I’ve read Gabriel’s Inferno and Waking Olivia. I tried Dark Notes but couldn’t get into it (but I think it was a ‘me’ thing). I’ll look into it. Thx!
