WEDNESDAY BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!!! Three more AWESOME finds added to the “bargains section (below)!!! Plus a brand new release that Nancy just found us! ➔ False Perceptions
Nancy: I really think this is the best book Michelle Heard ever wrote. On a personal note her real life husband of 12 years was caught cheating on her birthday. She gets some revenge by weaving her story into this book. I bet her ex doesn’t like it.
HAPPY NEW RELEASE DAY (65+ new releases) and there are a bunch on here that have excited me enough to make my mini blurb jolt list! 😀
Which ones? Well easily that one up there to the left, Ghosted (they are so in tune with each other and so into each other, but when he doesn’t call her, she’s so confused. But then… “…There is a reason for Eddie’s disappearance, and it’s the one thing they didn’t share with each other: the truth.“) and Baby Teeth (eeeeeep!!! This one sounds like an awesome psych-thriller horror – her very young, manipulative daughter HATES her…), Four Day Fling (she asks her one night stand to be her “fake boyfriend” at a wedding and doesn’t realize he’s a famous hockey star!!), Sweet Sixteen (she defends the popular guy’s little sister from bullies, and he accepts her into their group but “...When Gin declines Chase’s invitation to be part of the elite Sweet Sixteen, the repercussions turn both their lives upside down...” ), and The Peer and the Puppet (he’s the powerful rich kid, and she’s from a trailer park but she’s… “out to get even, and she almost had the perfect plan: expose the privileged kid moonlighting as a gangbanger. She’s smart, but she’ll have to be smarter. Sending her away won’t be good enough this time. I’m going to have to tame the little troublemaker.”).
Oh and there are SO many more, that I highlighted below. This mini-blurb jolt list could be twice as long! 😉
P.S. While you’re here, don’t forget to check out my latest reviews (and yesterday’s earlybirds!!):

Good Morning!
HELP! I might have a book funk coming on. I haven’t been in mood to start new book since All Your Perfects. Maybe I need something light and not super emotional to ease me back into romance world??
Good morning! I’d help, Leslie, but I’ve only read 3 books in the last 6 weeks, and 2 of them aren’t out yet and the other is All Your Perfects. Of course, I don’t read much ‘light and not super emotional’ either. lol
Soooooo, apparently I preordered Ghosted at some point because it showed up in my Kindle library last night. *scratches head* I must have read a pretty good review somewhere to pay that much for it, LOL!
And O. M. G…Baby Teeth sounds NUTS! Did anyone ever see the movie (or read the book) We Need To Talk About Kevin? *shivers* Baby Teeth sounds eerily similar.
Leslie, did you ever read That Guy? Or maybe Penny in London by Fisher Amelie? Jojo Moyes One Plus One. Sophie Kinsella. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand. Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern..
Match Made in Manhattan by Amanda Stauffer is on sale for 1.99. I’ve not read it, but it sounds good.
Oh man, Leslie…book funks suck! 😕 I’m in the same blankie fort as Nay with no real recs for something light and not super emotional. But I know there have been a lot of humorous recs around here over the years. What was that one which had you ladies cracking up, something about a romance novelist who had a bunch of mishaps? I think she was pretty inexperienced as well…
I really liked Julie Moffett’s Lexi Carmichael series too. No One Lives Twice is the 1st.
I want Ghosted soooooo bad….. but $12.99?!?! Grrr……
Me too, Jean… I’m dying to experience that one, but that is steep!
Leslie! Mister McHottie or Girl Crush…. light and funny! Loved them both!
Shh.
Don’t say it out loud Leslie.
This is when my slump started…last year. A year and I’m still not back totally.
Don’t jinx yourself.
Ghosted sounds like it could be a good read though.
It’s always weird when a pre order comes in and you have no recollection of it, lol.
I’ll guinea pig Ghosted for you guys. Since I obviously have no self control and preorder books as if the bill will never come due. 🙄
Do you ever have songs play in your head when your asleep? Or when your in between sleep and awake?
It’s really weird when it’s in Korean.
Cereal and coffee time, but I’m thinking of lunch. Hotdog? Hamburger? Craving here. French fries?
Can you actually sing the lyrics in Korean, or just hear them?
So, which do I read first? Mafia and His Obsession or Peer and the Puppet. GAH, what wonderful issues to have. Probably Peer because who here thinks that sounds like a bully book? And BB Reid is scary with those types of books. 🙂
Maryse, I tried that with one of my favorite songs, Chou (Butterfly). It’s all in Japanese, and I get lost trying to memorize the words.
Sale alert…The Affair is 1.99 and is normally pretty pricey, like 9.99 or something close to it.
That’s the one where it’s “is he or isn’t he?” and it could go either way, and while I was reading it I kept looking at hubby suspiciously and asking him who he was texting, LOL! Poor guy is so patient with me.
Ooooh I want it Amy!!! Thank you!!!
Peer and the Puppet sounds good. I did have to read the blurb really slowly to get everything straight. Just me or a little confusing?
I’m interested to see what you think of Ghosted, Amy. I saw Liane Moriarty loved that one and she’s one of my favorites, so I’ll likely read anything she recs.
Also, Consent by Nancy Ohlin is on sale for .99, normally 8.99 and is a student-teacher read!
Tasha…I’ll let you guys know how it is. Riiiiiiiight after I finish sleeping with some monsters. *snort*
Just hear it, lol. If I’m hearing it correctly. Goodness knows I mess up English lyrics enough.
That’s a hard part the not singing along. Like with Fxxk It. It has a lot of English that goes into Korean. It feels like I can keep singing along, but….um….no.
Last night I was listening to a podcast on kpop. One of the people talked of Shine being a favorite of the year so far for her. That she appreciated how they used their vocals. It was the second time in reference to that song I’d heard some one comment on how you expect the music to drop but instead they use their vocals for the drop. That the music beat stays very simple. I heard one say almost like a rap beat is used. Anyway, before bed I was listening to it to try and hear the “drop”.
Tessa, I’m going to see if I can listen to that song.
Today is still more English with Brooklyn in The Summer still on repeat. Such a happy song about a breakup, lol.
But why not add in some Japanese.
I’m on the library waiting list for GHOSTED… which means I might get it in a month… just couldn’t choke down the $12.99 price tag…which I know is foolish…but I think of all the other “treats” I can buy with it and there you go…
I can see how that one would be hard, Tessa. Especially when you add power vocals in.
Who is the author of The Affair?
Amy, how are you liking those Monsters?
*blushes* Honest truth, the power vocals aren’t hard for me. It’s keeping track of the words. I have to memorize the English words that go to the Japanese ones if I’m ever going to memorize it. Did you read the translation? Obviously, the game it came from REALLY lent itself to my love for the song. Though, instead of Yaketsuki I say Oh Itsuki, one of the characters in the game. (SUCH A SAD, SCARIER THAN SCARY GAME)
Oh geez, the author’s name would help. *smacks forehead* The Affair is by Colette Freedman.
Maryse…which one? I’ve already read The Affair but Consent is SO calling me!
Jean…I’m liking the monsters! Just antsy to find out what had you guys freaking out. 😉
The Affair… and thank you for the author’s name. There are a TON of “The Affair” books. 😛
Tessa is a writer AND a singer?!? *gasp* Well smack my a$$…
*spank me hard* 😀
A little bored a little restless but too hot and Smokey to go anywhere.
Umm……this is worse than hugging.
When does next Mr. Cane book come out? I’m tired of waiting.
GHOSTED does look good but too much $$$$. Somebody read it soon. If it is really fantastic then I will buy. Almost may buy a used hardback w free shipping. Just about same price.
I just finished my 20th book of the year. Which is sad and happy all at the same time.
The Affair is $1.20 right now
I just came across “His Banana” (I know!) by Penelope Bloom, I wondered if anyone had read it yet, it’s only .99 so not a huge risk, sounds like it might be good.
Uh-oh Maryse, I think all of our a$$ smacking and hard spanking made bev feel awkward. I think she needs a hug. 😛
You’re right, Sandi…it dropped even more! And…AND!!! The sequel, The Consequences, is down to 1.99 – but don’t read the blurb if you don’t want to know if he did or didn’t in The Affair. 😉
For the record, I haven’t read the sequel yet.
Well, I didn’t pick up a book today…just not in mood. Maybe my reading mojo will return tomorrow. *crosses fingers*
Come Leslie. Join me on the dark side.
C’mon.
We will go to Amy’s and eat all the carbs.
Amy can make us carbonara and fresh bread.
We will paint our nails.
Then do a relay dance.
https://youtu.be/3Vba7jTVPsY
Whose doing the shorts and knee socks?
Oh no…if you’re looking for carbs, you won’t find them at my house. The limited amount I do buy is gobbled up by my hubby in record time.
But I’m all for everything else you mentioned! And I’ll definitely wear the knee socks. 😉
Where are my carb lovers?
ME, ME, ME!!!
Carb lovers?
*raises hand*
*looks at ever-expanding a$$*
*slowly lowers hand*
Leslie, I just finished True North. I really enjoyed it. Actually I loved it. Just in the mood for a Rockstar book.
I love all carbs but I just look at them and I put on weight.
Ugh here’s a side effect that I totally forgot about weight loss (rapid weight loss)… hair loss. *sigh*
P.S. And it’s not just Keto… it’s any kind of fast weight loss from whatever diet.
Carbs over here alll day, e’ryday! 😛
I don’t care how chubby I am, I will never EVER give up carbs!!! 😉
#carbsrule
Same here Leslie! I had rice last night, toast this morning. On my way to get a cupcake for shark week, maybe even for Xmas in July with a latte too! I literally thought to myself a couple weeks ago how it’s time for me to start working out to lose this baby pouch, then proceeded to eat half a box of Tagalongs for breakfast. Haha
OMG MARYSE!!! I am actually going to be cutting my hair shorter in the next couple of weeks because I have lost almost half of my volume of hair. No joke. My poor hubby is frantic thinking something is seriously wrong because my hair is EVERYWHERE…the stairs, the car, the floor, the sofa, and WADS of it in the bathroom garbage can. *sigh* But shrinking down in size makes it worth it.
Maryse–do you take biotin (B7)? When I lost about 80% of my hair after I got the LVAD, I went on it, and it worked wonders. Within 6 months, I had a full head of hair again, and within another few after that, it was back to growing in thick. It even stopped my perimenopause hair loss.
One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that one brand works for me (Natrol), while another that I switched to because it was cheaper doesn’t. About a month after I switched, I noticed my nails splitting and the perimenopause hair loss, so I’m back on the Natrol now. I take 10,000 mcg a day. It does cause acne for some people, but I’ve never had a single problem with it.
I just started taking prenatal vitamins (LOL!!! Don’t judge me! It’s NOT for that) but because there are extra vitamins in there that are supposedly good for that healthy glow and hair and skin etc…
I’m hoping THAT will turn it around. It just started. I’ve been through this before about 10-12 years ago, and I remember all the little baby hairs growing in like flyaways. LOL!!
But I will look into yours, Nay. Whatever can help. Supposedly this is totally normal with weight loss.
These are the vitamins I’m taking: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001F1G6SI
Have some bread. It’s delicious.
Look even idols agree. At the 54 second mark. Honestly, I’m like that with bread.
https://youtu.be/S_qeax9hpdg
It is so delicious I can’t have it in the house all the time. And noodles. Rice. Potatoes. So good!
BRAT!!!!!! 😛
I was just reading about a hair tonic
https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/913y4f/review_kaminomoto_after_8_months/
Sounds like it helps with hair loss?
I was looking cause always fighting itchy scalp.
I’m at the part of my year when I have my debate of grow my hair or cut it. Every year I do this, lol.
Nay…I’m taking 10,000 mcg of biotin and have been for the last two months, but I’m going to try the brand you suggested. What have I got to lose? I’ve already lost half of my hair, LOL!!
I’m just sooooooo thankful I have always had thick hair so the hair loss isn’t as bad as it would have been had I started out with thin hair.
I’m looking at some bread right now which would fit nicely in bev’s mouth. *side-eyes bev*
*snort*
Me too… thank goodness I have lots of hair. But still… GAH!
I know. *sigh* Less hair but looking better and feeling better? So worth it. 😉
Okay, I just ordered the Natrol. Two bottles for $14.71 with free shipping, and it says it will be here tomorrow. Yay!!
Honestly I need to take inspiration from the two of you. I know I have a lot more to lose and it would be nice to feel more energetic.
Amy, how has it been since after the gallbladder?
I love how a song, Say What You Want by Texas, comes on and it feels like listening to the radio in HS.
It’s been great, bev. No more pain and having to watch my diet to avoid pain. Now I just watch my diet because I want to, not because I have to.
Making big dietary changes is so hard at first, but when I started seeing and feeling the difference it made it so much easier to stick with it.
And I get nostalgic about HS as well when I hear certain songs. Riding around with friends right after getting our licenses, drinking slurpees or Big Gulps from 7-11, yelling out the car windows at cute guys, hanging out at the park after dark being stupid and then getting soaked when the sprinklers kicked on…wow, was life simple then. 😉
First, Amy, I said before I was trained in opera when I was younger. I’m just very loud. lol
Second, all this talk of carbs and such… 🙂 The biggest issue is if you have diabetes, you actually should avoid it. I’m borderline, so I don’t avoid too much. lol But it doesn’t fill me. Chinese food syndrome. I’m hungry in an hour.
That said… I want pasta.
I love Chinese.
Big gulps and slurpees were and are the best, lol.
I’m Italian…. no way am I giving up my bread and pasta! But I did just lose 20 lbs on Weight Watchers!!!
Jean, that’s awesome.
Thanks bev….I feel better and much more energy!
That’s great, my friend! *tosses glitter and bread crumbs on Jean*
Tessa…NOW I remember you mentioning the singing lessons. 😳 Still impressed though!
LOL!! We should do bread confetti cannons in the morning… 😛
I really need to just mark a day and start.
Not think of it as a diet and choose small goals.
YES bev, that is a fantastic idea. It’s all about the mindset. AND…allow yourself treats every so often. 😉
I don’t really want to lose weight, just tone everything up. My belly isn’t that big, I think it’d be doable if I actually started doing something. But, reading! And shows! And cooking, cleaning, taxiing, bathing, feeding, playing, yada, yada, yada. It’s shoved way down on my priority list. I’m a “I’ll do that after etc. etc. etc.” person. And then more etc. and it becomes more fantasy than reality.
I didn’t eat the cupcakes. 1 for each kiddo. I just ate a lemon bar….and a cookie. And the latte. But, I missed lunch so it evens out. 🙂
Tasha, definitely don’t stress about it. Your body just did an amazing thing.
Yes, and then dance it off together, lol.
Yes, but if I go by that ‘it takes 9 months for your body to do that and 9 to undo it’, I’ll really wait 9+ months. I take procrastination very seriously. Also, I’ve lost the baby weight. This big pouch was here before the baby. Having just had him gives me a good lookin excuse.
That’s what I need then.
A baby or two to carry around.
LOL! 😛
My husband used to swear by my baby vitamins. He would take them and say they always made him feel great. And he would tell anybody, he wasn’t ashamed. He took them for years long after I went back to one a days.
Also, baby fun exercise, Tasha when he’s a little older! There are a ton that the baby giggles over. I always liked them and they always make me laugh to see a baby giggling as you have them on your legs and lift your legs. The ultimate peek a boo.
Yes! I forgot about that one, Tessa. I always do that with them too. Maybe I should start conditioning…I really am that outta shape. I always joke that using an Apple slicer gave me pain for days on my upper arms/inner arms/arm pits/probably chest area as an example as to how our if shape I am. It actually happened that way. I think I did like 3 apples. Lol
Oh, speaking of apples! This is what I’m currently doing with my quality time- looking at skull and brain cacti planters and I came across this gem too-
I’m thinking fall/Halloween
I was reminded of Justified the other day.
Amy have you and your husband watched that? I do think you may like it. A bit dark, funny, great writing and acting. Seriously the actors and their characters are a perfect match. Also one of the best hero/villian anti bromance pairings ever. Lol.
I know I’ve talked of it before but it was a seriously good show through out and I think even stuck the landing.
Tasha, that made me laugh. Cute.
I want this with out the hot pepper.

I had a ton of hair, but it started coming out in handfuls. They said it was a combination of being in the hospital for so long and the Warfarin (generic Coumadin) I was on at the time (Warfarin is known to make hair fall out; Coumadin does not in most cases.)
I lost so much that I cut it off to above my shoulders and bleached it white blonde so that my lily white scalp wouldn’t be as noticeable. And if you’re seeing those flyaway baby hairs, you know you’re doing something right! I felt like a fuzzball for a while, but I was so happy to have hair growing back in that I didn’t care!
Amy–I truly didn’t notice much of a difference until at least 3 months after I went on the Biotin. That’s when I started seeing a little stubble, but the real difference was around 6 months. I noticed it in my nails much sooner than that.
Maryse–I never even thought about prenatal vitamins. That’s great that it’s working for you. They always made me SO sick when I was pregnant, but I have a cast iron stomach now, so I bet I could handle them if I wasn’t already on various vitamins at different times of the day.
Congrats, Jean! That’s awesome!
Oooh, I found Illyrian brothers loose leaf tea on Etsy too and it sounds amazing!
I read the sample for Mr Mchottie and now I want it, thanks Jean!
I have a brown thumb and I routinely kill plants that you’re not supposed to be able to kill and I TRY! I water them once a week and what not, but they all eventually crap out on me. And I still want this cactus. Reading the instructions for care confuses me (I’ve killed 1 before). It says “Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. As the “fans” of cristates can trap water that can lead to rot, it is preferable to water from beneath, if possible. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch, except on cloudy, humid or cold winter days. Protect from frost.” So…the little saucers you put under the plants to catch the extra water- you just put water in them then? NO watering the top? And somehow the plant soaks this water from the saucer clear up to the top of the soil so it feels moist to the touch? Except on bad weather days…then I deprive it? All of winter is cold. Also, it says it’s currently growing in a 3.5” pot, but it’s being shipped bare root. So, do I get another 3.5” or a little bigger? I’m asking here Bc there are a few green thumbs here.
Tasha!! Mister McHottie! So good …. no one ever listens to me!
FLT: In my dreams, I danced. (Blind Kiss by Renee Carlino). Loving this book so far!!!
The H and h are part of an experiment in the beginning….. kissing while blindfolded without ever seeing the other person’s face. Will there be a reaction based on the kiss without the initial attraction to looks? Hmmm…..
Oooh, that sounds good, Jean!!
Tasha–yes, you water from the bottom. Just put it in the saucer until it’s soaked up. And if any is left standing for more than a day, I dump it out so that it doesn’t get nasty or risk rotting the roots.
From what I remember, you should put it in the same size pot (cacti like to be in pots just big enough to fit them), which you can keep it in for a long time, until it gets root bound. Also, make sure the soil is somewhat sandy. If it doesn’t have instructions for a soil mixture, you can look one up. The main thing is–don’t over water it. In my experience, that’s the quickest way to kill a succulent.
I missed that addition of False Perceptions up there and I just HAD to 1-click!
Ok, thanks Nay. I assume the water will soak clear to the top so it’s moist to the touch. I’ve killed all my succulents. They’re my favorite and they hate me. You’d think once a week wasn’t too much. And I did the sand thing with them too.

“That’s what I need then.
A baby or two to carry around.”
Do it, bev. Have a baby. Or two. Or two at once.
Tasha, yes, as long as your soil is the right consistency, it should absorb the water right to the top. It just doesn’t need to be soaking wet since cacti don’t need much water.

I love the living art with succulents, they look so pretty.
Ok. Then I will send them to you when they are pass the baby stage.
Actually, I do have a heart leaf philodendron that has lasted like 3 years, maybe. And 1 other one, a lone surviver, that’s thinned out a ton (poor thing looks pitiful) that’s lasted 1 year now. I have no idea what it is.
*stares at bev*
You REALLY don’t want to do that.
And no, hubby and I haven’t watched that series yet but we’ve heard of it. I’ll mention it to him again since we’ll need something between now and next April. Is it still going or has it ended?
After I finally got hubs to watch Bloodlines and Ozark (he LOVED both of them), he found a show called Longmire and and love it even more, so when he was looking for something similar, I tried to get him to watch Justified, but he couldn’t get into it. But it wasn’t because it was bad or anything. It was because the scenery looked nothing like it was supposed to for the setting in Lexington and Appalachia. He’s big about ‘the land’ anywhere we go, so that bugged the crap out of him. It’s a shame because I’ve heard more than once how awesome that series is.
Speaking of Ozark, if anyone watched it and has been waiting for season 2 to finally start, it premieres on August 31. I can’t wait! I adore Jason Bateman.
Justified is finished.
I like Longmire alot, but, to me, Justified is just better.
Gah, makes me want to watch it again.
Amy if you do I’m totally going to be reliving it through you.
“We dug coal together.”
Fine.
I’ll name the baby Pumpernickel and give it to Maryse.
But, Maryse wants Bambi.

I just finished “Waking Olivia” by her and loved it! And they’re in KU!
Ugh hardly any time to read last night as Alice decided to get good and skunked right before my retreat! 🙄
Robin–I feel for you! What a pain in the keister to have to deal with a skunked dog! I finally bought some of that de-skunk shampoo and was surprised by how well it worked.
Nay! Can you text me the brand? I need some for next time because there will be one.
Anyone who read Mafia and his Angel, The prologue and first two chapters of Mafia and his Obsession will SHOCK you. I just started, around chapter 5-6 ish, but holy smokes. 0.0 That beginning was NOT expected.
BB Reid’s Peer and the Puppet, OMG, it was awesome. If you liked Fear Me, you’ll love this. It’s not as violent as Fear Me. The, err, issue that Maryse had with Fear Me wasn’t there at all. 🙂 Still ANGST! 🙂 Tons of it.
Sent it, Robin.
In case anyone else has the skunk problem, the brand we use is Pro-pet and we got it at True Value Hardware, which carries a lot of farm animal products. But Amazon has many different brands that have decent reviews.
Hair loss, would be so bad, since my hair is fine. Have to think hard about weight loss vs. hair.

“You’re not supposed to meet the love of your life when you’re thirteen.” Tiebreaker by P. Dangelico. Have loved all the books I’ve read by this author so far. Technically a Standalone story, but characters are in previous books. And it’s KU!

Yes, there is a lot of swearing in this. 😛 They are Russian Mafia. lol
I’ll second that The Kiss Quotient was a really great read. It is well written, the topic is not your run of the mill romance and it rates pretty high up on the level of steam. Definitely would recommend this one-you’ll be rooting for the main character Stella!

It was January 10th 2005.
from the newie by Chloe Walsh, Binding 13. It’s massive – my kindle says it has 800+ pages!!!!!! WTAH??????? And I don’t yet have any idea what the book title refers to. But so far, I’m in, even though it’s NA which isn’t my fav normally. It’s set in Ireland. A hot young up-and-coming rugby player and a girl who has changed schools (to HIS school yesssss) cos she was severely bullied at her old school.
So far I like the storyline and the writing style.
800? That seems like a lot for a NA. But if it uses it to build a slow burn and good character growth it can be so fun. Tell us how it goes.
Just made me think of when I read The Last Hour of G and I’d look down and it would say something like 23 hours left, lol.
Ha ha yes bev. I remember reading (and loving) LHoG and thinking the same thing. Well, this one’s long but somehow it just flies by pretty quickly and I’m at 35% already. I guess it is kinda slow burn. Starts off with the h only fifteen and the H seventeen. I’m assuming they grow up a bit during the book, cos I don’t think it’s gonna go down the taboo path. I’m still liking it.
I didn’t see Penny Reid’s newest Winston Brothers book mentioned in the two most recent blogs; this one and the one for July 31st. 🙁
Hi Ann. I could swear it’s on today’s post (July 31st). I know I have Penny Reid’s latest that just went live today on it.
