Nay: OMG, ya’ll! I just finished The Great Alone, rated NSFL–not safe for Leslie ;)

But, WOW, what a beautifully tragic, incredible book! I think I experienced every feeling from one end of the spectrum to the other, and each in such a strong way.

It took a bit to get moving, but that part wasn’t bad or anything, just not as eventful. However, once it took off, it never let up. I almost had to stop reading because of the way it rocked my emotions during a couple of chapters–and that’s saying something for me. But I’m SO glad I didn’t put it down.

I listened to the audiobook, and Julia Whelan did such a phenomenal job with all the different characters, male and female. And she put her whole heart into it. It was simply amazing! All of you who have it on your tbr need to move it up!

Pia: Anyone read Halo by Brooke Blaine/Ella Frank? Finished it the other day and it was soooo good. When I finished the book I immidiately went to chapter 1 and startede all over again. Looking forward to March 25 when VIPER (Fallen Angel Book 2) is released :-)

Good morning! Hope everyone is on the mend…getting rid of cold cooties and broken legs healing, etc.

I’m starting What He Never Knew (Kandi Steiner). I loved books 1 & 2 but….I read them few months ago (I HATE reading series not in succession) and this is ebook and I wish it were audio. Fingers crossed I like it.

Daffy March 12, 2019 at 7:08 AM

I also read Halo by Ella Frank! It started out really good with a hot singer/artist named Halo, sexual tension and the backstage of the music world.
unfortunately I only read until the 17th chapter because it become boring, predictable and fell into the same MM pattern I usually come across: older gay man & younger straight man – confused and doesn’t want to allow himself to believe he maybe be gay.

Tasha J March 12, 2019 at 7:45 AM

Heroine by Mindy McGinnis (she wrote The Female of the Species) released today. It’s not romance, but we loved TFOTS.

Nay March 12, 2019 at 8:10 AM

Maryse–Jessica Hawkins has a new series called White Monarch, and all 3 books are up for pre-order on Amazon:

Violent Delights–3/19/19
Violent Ends–6/18/19
Violent Triumphs–11/12/19

Leslie–I meant to comment on GR that I’m looking forward to seeing what you think about that book. I also loved the first two.

R. Renee March 12, 2019 at 8:20 AM

I thought you guys were just super quiet yesterday. I just forgot to subscribe to the updates! I’m responding on this post instead.

I *almost* finished. I just have a tiny bit left but I’m taking my laptop and working in the mornings! I woke up in the middle of the night after dreaming of a little plot hole I missed yesterday. Darian left a little something in his car I forgot about! :-/

bev, ALL of LP’s songs are good! My faves are Suburban Sprawl and Alcohol, Forever For Now, Tightrope, Recovery, Lost on You, Switchblade…

Off to SXSW! Pray for me!

Maryse March 12, 2019 at 8:48 AM

It’s great that your dreams help out your writing. So many things have come to me, right in the middle of a deep sleep. I’m always so grateful when that happens.

Maryse March 12, 2019 at 8:48 AM

YAY!!! Thank you Nay!!

I’m going to add them in right now. :)

R. Renee March 12, 2019 at 8:54 AM

Almost every plot idea I’ve had has come from dreams. Lol and little known fact, Emma Scott’s Sugar & Gold came from one of my dreams!

Maryse March 12, 2019 at 9:06 AM

YES PLEASE!! OMG Thank you Tasha J! I’m adding that one in, too. :)

Maryse March 12, 2019 at 10:47 AM

I really appreciate your feedback on that one, Daffy!!

Maryse March 12, 2019 at 11:40 AM

HOW COOL R!! I love “behind the author” tidbits. ;)

Robyn March 12, 2019 at 1:08 PM

If you like P C Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast, they have a new book out called The Dysasters. It looks really good. It’s kinda pricey so I’m on the fence. I might have to cave because it keeps calling me.

Michele G March 12, 2019 at 1:52 PM

Maryse, Katy Regnery has placed almost all of her books into KU in celebration of her new release Arrange Me. Just as an FYI.

Heroine looks really good – and I did love Female of the Species…may have to check that one out.

The Tara Brown one is calling me too…The Reverse of Everything. I’m curious about it.

Jan March 12, 2019 at 6:13 PM

Some of those novellas could be good. I might check them out. Will have a look at the Hawaii one as well – it’s on KU – yay! Aloha In Love. Sometimes I’m just in the mood for those lighter ones.

R. Renee March 12, 2019 at 6:14 PM

Think I found a K-pop party bev! I’ll let you know! #SXSW

bev March 12, 2019 at 6:34 PM

Awesome R. Definitely let me know how it goes.
Maybe you’ll become a Shawol and if SHINee or Taemin come to the states I’ll have someone to go with, lol.

bev March 12, 2019 at 6:35 PM

At SXSW it’s iKON I’d be curious to see.

Ashley March 12, 2019 at 7:37 PM

Surprise, Baby by Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam came out today. It showed up in my kindle and I completely forgot I preordered it!

Cheryl March 12, 2019 at 9:14 PM

Busy day so finally going to read. Starting Daisy Jones.

Maryse, glad you are feeling better.

R. Renee March 13, 2019 at 8:53 AM

bev, they gave us a hard time about getting in and we have wristbands! They wanted to see our RSVP. We use a RSVP service that RSVPs us to ALL the parties. Hundreds of them. There’s no searching those. They should have had a guest list! But the hubs was determined and alas we were granted entry…to the pre-party. the actual showcase was at Austin City Limits. Oy vey. This morning I’m getting on my laptop and I’m going to find me some dang K-pop! We have 2 more days. I shall prevail.

bev March 13, 2019 at 9:02 AM

R, you and your husband just made me smile on a ….hard morning. So, thank you!

The showcase is tonight at the Moody Theater . It would be iKONS first US show.

R. Renee March 13, 2019 at 9:19 AM

That could be a problem! It’s at ACL and that’s a hard venue to get into. We have wristbands but they give us secondary priority to badges, which for showcases at ACL is the equivalent of SOL. But I’ve talked my way into bigger so we’ll see! It’s after midnight though, so babysips! :D

Jan March 13, 2019 at 7:06 PM

I’ve got no idea what you guys are talking about. *shakes head*

But I’m sorry you had a hard morning, bev. *hugs bev*

bev March 13, 2019 at 7:27 PM

What part Jan?

SXSW is a large music festival in Austin Texas that happens every year.
For one night they have a showcase for korean artist. I’m assuming you haven’t missed my new love for it?
A korean group named iKON is performing and I suggested R go just for the experience. Kpop fans are intense, lol. They have light sticks and chants and fandom names.
iKon fandom is called iKONIC and there color is orange/red so that is what color there light stick is. Ot has to be interesting to experience.

This is iKon with one of their big hits and pretty much the only song I know Lol. But you can see their light sticks and hear some chants.
It was a HUGE hit, with children. So popular it got banned in some schools.

R. Renee March 13, 2019 at 8:12 PM

It’s just after 8 and I’m about to eat the heck out of some bolognese, then we’re hitting up the k-pop! The hubs is on a mission!!

Jan March 13, 2019 at 8:38 PM

Sounds like fun, bev. We have a music TV show here called PopAsia that has a lot of fans. It’s always featuring kpop and cute Asian boy bands etc.

R, hope you and your hubs enjoy!

bev March 13, 2019 at 9:18 PM

Ok, now I just think it would be hilarious if R’s husband becomes a fan. If he starts stanning groups.

R. Renee March 13, 2019 at 9:54 PM

bev! We made it in!!!

R. Renee March 13, 2019 at 10:44 PM

Holy mother of god bev!!! Wow!!!

bev March 13, 2019 at 11:17 PM

No way!!

You talked your way in?

That is so cool.

I take that “WoW” to mean your having fun?

R. Renee March 13, 2019 at 11:30 PM

We didn’t have to! We’re at the very top but can still see well! Can’t wait! We just saw Hitchhiker and he was awesome!!!

bev March 14, 2019 at 12:14 AM

I’ve never heard him, but glad you enjoyed it. So Chung Ha and iKON would be after. Man that is a late concert. I’m used to concerts that end at that time not start.

Leslie M March 14, 2019 at 7:20 AM

Bev, I always check out the video links you post and it amazes me how music transcends the language barrier!! Its like I dont even feel like they are not singing in English. Plus, I love the choreography. :)

R. Renee March 14, 2019 at 8:37 AM

The biggest hype shows are always super late at SXSW, and it was totally worth it. I loved it! And the hubs, who turns 60 this year, was a dancing fool! :D

bev March 14, 2019 at 9:08 AM

First relief, lol. Always the fear you’d be like….”wow bev, that sucked.”

That is so cool that you all just went not knowing much about it. My mom was like that(my favorite concert companion) just open to the experience…I wish I could be more like that.

Totally smiling at the thought of your husband dancing to Chung Ha and iKon. I’m sure he had as much swag as Bobby.

The one rapping with hand on his hip.

bev March 14, 2019 at 9:09 AM

Leslie, I forget sometimes too and think I can sing along. Lol.

Michele G March 14, 2019 at 10:13 AM

Wow! What fun for R. & her hubs!! I wish we had video!

R. Renee March 14, 2019 at 10:17 AM

I posted a little video in my group this morning but alas I am not in it!! :D Most of the video I got was of the crowd! The energy was crazy! I really don’t think you can watch them online and decide you don’t like K-pop. It MUST be experienced live. I’ll be a groupie with you now bev!

Michele G March 14, 2019 at 10:24 AM

Maryse, I wanted to let you know about one of my new faves that went live today – - Rapture by N.N. Britt. I was lucky enough to read an ARC and I thought it was truly amazing! He’s a rock idol…need I say more? Actually, I should…she is a grieving mother…so it’s not all guitars and sunshine…it’s gritty, real and a little painful at times. It’s such a good story…and this is her debut!

R. Renee March 14, 2019 at 10:35 AM

I second Rapture! I’m at 50% and had to stop for SXSW but I’m loving it so far!

R. Renee March 14, 2019 at 11:55 AM

bev, I just realized we have intact tickets if you want one. Pretty cool momento from their first US performance.

Nay March 14, 2019 at 12:14 PM

I’ll third Rapture! Dark and gritty and ohhh the angst! I fell in love with Hazel and Justice (especially Justice!) I still can’t believe this is N.N. Britt’s first book!

Amy March 14, 2019 at 1:43 PM

Hi ladies! GAH, I’m tired. *whimpers* Working 50-60 hours a week for the past 3 weeks is taking its toll on me.

Onto more pleasant things…FLT!

“WHEN I RAN from the Mclary’s, took ***, and chose to ***, I never stopped to wonder… how.” ~ The Girl and Her Ren (I had to edit it for possible spoilers from the first book)

I’m sensing some foreshadowing, and oh MAN…I have a feeling this is going to get rough. :?

Amy March 14, 2019 at 1:45 PM

bev…I’m hugging you in my mind (*snicker*) for your rough morning. But I’m not snickering for your rough morning. I’m snickering because I feel like a little kid imagining doing something defiant in her head. :P

Tasha J March 14, 2019 at 2:21 PM

Like when they say “stop touching me” and you just have to get in 1 poke? LOL

My FLT is same as last week’s. Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven. I’m at around 60% yet and know this will definitely be 1 of my best of 2019 reads. It would be awesome as a movie or mini series. Probably even audiobook if done with the right narrator/narrators. Each interview has a distinctly different voice, I love it.

I just had my teeth cleaned at the dentist with this water pressure like thing for the first time and my mouth is sore! But, so far I think I like it better than the pick. My gums bleed terrible and she really freaked me out with all the info on that.

Also, I’m super stressing about finding coordinating spring outfits for family pictures. There are too many little shops and options that I’m overwhelmed. This is why I only torture myself with it about every 5 years. And I’m picking J out his 1st little pair of baby mocs. They’re so stinkin adorable and it’s the last time I’ll ever get my baby’s 1st pair of shoes! *sniff*

bev March 14, 2019 at 3:07 PM

R ….so now if I decide to go to kcon I can count on you, right?? I love it!
Leslie we’d drag you along. ;)

R, just so you know I shared your updates with some korean entertainment fans. Some dark news in kpop a Me too type situation. But this was so fun.

Thanks Amy. A year ago this month I lost my dearest friend. So this month has been …..emotional.

Leslie M March 14, 2019 at 3:48 PM

Amy, jeesh! Why are you working so much?

Bev, sorry about your friend.

R., I love that hubs is getting down with his big, bad self! ;) BTW, I am NOT a good concert companion. I was a grump when my fam dragged me to Coldplay concert.

Tasha, I am petrified of dentist! I haven’t been in like 10 yrs. I need to get the courage to go.

Tasha J March 14, 2019 at 4:46 PM

Leslie, you should go asap! I skipped 2 years bc I didn’t have insurance and had to get a deep cleaning- there was a lot of buildup underneath my gums. It was awful. But, my Dad hadn’t gone since he was a child and always bragged about how good his teeth were and he’d never had a cavity. Then he went, probably 10 years ago now, and had sooo many issues. It may be worse the longer you wait. I’m sure they have some things or ideas to put you at ease? Like that laughing gas or medication you could maybe take before hand?

Jan March 14, 2019 at 5:17 PM

Eek. I need to go to the dentist for a clean too. I might ask about that water thing. I hate the pick. Ugh.

Once you get a taste for thievery, you never lose it.

My Lord and Spymaster by Joanna Bourne. A spy-themed historical romance. It’s good, so far.

Tessa March 14, 2019 at 5:36 PM

Death was a part of Life
Deathless by Anne Malcolm

R, the concert looked like it was fun. :)

*hands Bev some chocolate* Hope that makes you smile.

Amy, wtf…. That’s too much. You need a break!

bev March 14, 2019 at 7:34 PM

Thanks Tessa.

Do you know that is the first BTS video I’ve watched. Or listened to that song. Sometimes I have to be contradictory and not listen to the current biggest name in a new found genre. But i really liked that song. Catchy.

Just thought I’d stop and in and tell you all you need to read Naked Love by Jewel E Ann. I haven’t stopped laughing since I started the book and I’m not even halfway yet. This book is exquisitely hilarious and I don’t think I can stop even to make dinner!
