Happy NEW RELEASE TUESDAY!! We’ve got books!! And blurb jolts! Like that one there to the left. <— Ohhhhh my my my!! This sounds like it’s going to be crazy-intense!! I can smell the trouble from here.
What else gave me a blurb jolt? The Assistant (she hires an assistant for her husband, and everything in their perfect life changes), Cliff’s Edge (she’s house-sitting, and a famous movie star decides he’s going to stay there too), Twisted (Aleatha Romig’s latest… and he’s a bad guy that’s fixated on her), Choose Me (he’s in love with her, and she’s walking down the aisle to marry someone else), and Shouldn’t Have You (she’s a grieving widow, and then she meets him…)
Michele G: I’m reading The Assistant by Marni Mann right now (an ARC). Holy crap…I really feel like some serious drama is getting ready to hit the fan…but I suspect maybe it’s not what I’m expecting it to be. She’s a little tricky sometimes…I’m just not sure what’s exactly is going on yet…either way…I think it’s going to hurt. Yikes…but in a good way…you know…angsty and all…I think! I’ll keep y’all posted.
Rae: Can’t wait for The Assistant by Marni Mann. Guess I won’t be getting much sleep tonight!
Krystal: Hot can’t wait
Michele G: I finished The Assistant by Marni Mann. It would be a great buddy read….I kept wishing I had people to vent to as I was reading. I wanted to throw out theories, complain about a character, etc. and didn’t have anywhere to go with it. It was a creative plotline that kept me guessing. I figured out part of the twist but not all. It is twisty and emotional FYI…just be prepared. I gave it 4 stars and really recommend it. There were a couple of things that kept me from 5 starring it. It seems to be a 5 star book for a lot of the early readers though.

ALL THREE OF THE ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE BOOKS ARE FREE RIGHT NOW!!!
GASP!!!
And good morning!! 😀
What do you mean accidentally on purpose books?
Oh, and good morning by the way…
Good Morning. Rainy & miserable here. And I’m home sick. Hoping I can at least read a bit.
Do you need some steroids?
Hope you feel better.
Michelle, how are you and your family doing? It’s been rain all spring long here too. Pleh! Hope you feel better.
Feel better, Michelle! Hope y’all are doing okay.
Like MichelleS it is rainy and chilly and not feeling the best.
Let’s all stay home, ok?
Okay. I’m in.
*snuggles back in blankies with doggies, and reads while the cooking channel plays in the background*
In my “today” dreams… 😉
Yeah, I’m on the bus. But I have a thermos of coffee and books and music and you all.
I’m home! But I’m always home these days. I’m going through one of those things where I can’t force myself to pick up a book. I’ll do anything instead–watch Food Network, play The Room on my phone, look at books on Amazon and GR. I hate when I get like this! 😖
Same. But I went through the 5 stages of grief with it. Denial- I really thought I could power through books with youngins like I used to. And then when that didn’t work, I thought I’d catch up when they slept. Hahaha. Anger- I blamed life moving so fast and being so busy all the time for not giving me a chance to really get into anything. Or the fact that my brain couldn’t focus when I did have time. Bargaining- If I read a few chapters, I will be satisfied and that’ll get the ball rolling. If someone would take all these kids I’d have a chance then. If I go here, I’ll have a little space to read. Yada yada. Depression- needs no explanation. Now, I’ve accepted. Which is depressing itself.
I say this during nap time with 2 babies sleeping in my arms and 2 toddlers on the couch. 1 sleeping, 1 watching a movie. Technically, I could now. 😜
Tasha, do you babysit too? Ugh! One kid was sometimes too much for me.
Yes, only part time. I can’t do full time anymore. Maybe when mine are older. Lol
God bless you! That’s a lot of kids to take care of.
My mom works in a daycare (5 or 6 kids all under age 3) part time, and she loves them… but is EXHAUSTED when she comes home at night…
Lol, it’s not so bad. These past few years only for family and friends. At a certain age they wear each other out more. But everyone’s had babies recently too, and with J so clingy it’s been a trip. Now that the weather is warming up, I’m pushing for the fence to be installed NOW so I can let the bigger ones roam without worrying myself into a hole when they’re going different directions. It’ll be good for J and future dog too and separation from worst neighbors in the world.
Maryse, that’s so cool your Mom does it too! Something in common. 🙂
P.S. – I think my own kids are alien beings with the power to drain the energy right out of you just merely being in their presence. One “Mooom, I need” and it’s like your power level on a game that drops (visually) drastically. It’s their super power.
Tasha–I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m not sure if you saw it. When my boys were little, there was so much going on between Mother’s Day Out, school, football, swimming, and all those little boy things, plus I was doing eBay as much as I could, and I remember that I kept trying to read the same paragraph in a Patricia Cornwell book over and over and falling asleep, so I finally told my husband that I was just going to have to quit reading for a while. It was actually a conscious decision, and it made me sad. Then I did so–for about 12 years. Until Twilight, Sookie Stackhouse, and BDB brought me out of my fog. So believe me, I get how you’re feeling. And I don’t think it’ll take you anywhere near 12 years to get back to reading.
I feel this way, exactly Nay! It’s so sad to think I’ve got all these unread books sitting at my fingertips, wasting away. There’s so many coming out so fast and I’m already so far behind, I’m missing so much good! They’ll be classics when I pick em up. 😂
It’ll get better. I’ve given up on keeping up. Too many people are writing books.
I get you guys.
For me, I just go with MY flow.
Whatever I’m in the mood to read, I read. If it doesn’t capture me, I choose another. Often, it’s not even new releases I’m reading. But then again, when I first started this blog, I was devouring series that were many years old already, and there were plenty like me that were just discovering those “older” series for the first time, so I never felt bad for being behind, because we were having too much fun just… reading.
Today Sophmore Witch by Katie French and Ingrid Seymour and Oberon Academy Book One: The Orphan by Wendi Wilson were both released today. The first is a continuation of a series I started, book 2 (of probably 4) and the other is a new series involving fae. 🙂
Forever Immortal (Vampire Brides Book 0) by Amelia Hutchins comes out on Fri. It’s a new series involving vampires.
Timid looks cute! Oh, and Broken Trust by Jaymin Eve and Tate James was good. Not as good as the first book, but still really good.
I saved almost $50 grocery shopping today. I think it’s cuz I took time to coupon this morning, but I’m not sure. I never save cuz I hate couponing.
A couple days ago, I turned on my air conditioner. We slathered in sunscreen and got squirt guns out and panted all day. Today, sweatshirts and sweatpants and jackets. It’s 50. 65 in the house and I refuse to turn the darn heat on again. It’s supposed to be 80 tomorrow. I remember back when we used to pack away winter/fall clothes and summer/spring and interchange them. I don’t bother now.
I love deals. I always feel like I’ve had HUGE wins when I get awesome stuff cheap (or cheaper). It makes it even better.
I want to take a nap.
Seriously.
?itemid=9561261
I am already in bed… and have been since 7pm. I love it here. This is my happy place.
I do this all the time. Just turn off the lights and get in with all my devices.
bev—this is the cutest gif I’ve ever seen! ❤️️
Dont you just want to kiss it all over? Little chub.
Yes! It’s just precious!
Omg I feel out of the loop. Firstly I need a nap everyday around 3pm!!! My kids are all grown up so I’m past that stage but remember it well! I feel for you! I have been on a reading frenzy!! The Doctor series by EL Todd!!! A must read it so addictive, then The After series by Anna Todd & I’m still not finished it – 4 books just done book 2. So freaking good! Hardin he’s a Travis from Beautiful Disaster with way more issues!! Then I had to squeeze in Zero Regret by Autumn Lake Jones!!!! Amazing mc series!!!!!
GASSSSSP!!! MAGIC. WORDS.
Ok, I do NOT know how I was sleeping on these two. I LOVE this song.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try it. Please. I cant share the direct YouTube link because of age restrictions but the MV is the 5th one down. They are married and look how he looks at her.

I have now listened to this song 100x. I cant stop.
Send help.
On the other hand it is so quiet. I need to reassess my life that I have so much time and you all dont.😂
LOL!!! I’m working on two days worth of posts at the same time, AND writing a review. And having a bit of an anxiety attack. Bring on a martini! Oh wait. It’s only 11am.
*giggles*
As my dear hubs always says, “It’s 5:00 somewhere!” 🍸
When I get home I’m going to listen to it.
Is this the one you can’t stop listening to?
We’re BRing The Assistant on GR if anyone wants to join us. I’m just at 12%, but sfsg!
What is your order for Chinese food? I get the same thing every time and am always wanting to venture out, but am afraid. My order- chicken and mixed veggies w/white rice or sweet and sour chicken and rice. Sometimes sesame chicken. Egg rolls.
Mine used to always be Singapore noodles (Mei Fun) loaded in all the meats and veggies, but since I’m noodleless now I like Egg Foo Young (pork!!) and simple beef and broccoli but no rice.
Oh, mei fun looks delicious!! You can keep your egg foo young. 😜 I did try beef and broccoli on one of my cravings during pregnancy and it didn’t taste good. Could’ve been my pregnancy, but I’ve not tried it since. I try to limit broccoli intake with my stomach anyway.
Yum. I think Chicken mei fun is my new favorite!
Did you eat Mei Fun already, Tasha??? YUM IS RIGHT!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!
Annnnnnnd…. now I’m jealous. 😉
Always Kung Pao Chicken. Steamed rice, which isn’t even diet related. I just really preferred steamed rice. The third dish might vary. If the place has green beans, I pick that (because I love it) but most don’t. If they don’t, I go with either a house chicken or sweet and sour chicken. And if I’m lucky enough that they sell dumplings/ pot stickers, they are MINE!
Isn’t Kung pao chicken spicy? I still have never had dumplings. I forgot I wanted to try them the next time I ordered. I get Chinese food a few times a year.
Dumplings are delicious. And obviously due to the noodley part, I can’t have ’em anymore. But yes. Those and egg rolls and pork fried rice were my staples.
They are spicy. Ironically, I can’t handle spicy, but the flavor is so good, I just power through it and NOT eat the peppers.
Eat dumplings. They are good! 🙂
I like beef with black bean and vegetables, sweet and sour pork, satay chicken with vegetables. White rice. I love dumplings too. I recently had a yummy spicy eggplant (aubergine) dish but can’t remember what it was called. Now I’m really hungry!!!
Ohhh another favorite thing that I CAN have at Chinese food places is their ENORMOUS fried chicken wings. HOLY MOLY I LOVE THOSE!!!!
Oh that eggplant thing sounds like I would love it. And I could eat it!!! 😀
Jan, that does sound like a yummy order. I can’t have black beans or spicy things, but the imagery you’ve painted sounds so good.
The fried wings do not. I won’t even eat fried chicken anymore. My parents, I swear, are obsessed with chicken dinners. And they’re always fried chicken. Every time they tell me it’s chicken dinner night, I say no thanks, you’re on your own. Now, why can’t they do marinated chicken dinners? Baked or grilled or whatever. That would taste so much better in my opinion. And I used to love it. I’m not sure why the huge turnoff these last few years. Crispy was always by thing. I’ve always hated wings though. No chicken, too messy.
Ha ha ha. I can still go a nice fried chicken wing. Maryse and I will eat them with our spicy eggplants. Tasha, you can have some dumplings 😀 A bit of soy sauce and you’re good.
Sounds like a perfect meal, Jan! Let’s do it!
OMG, I never thought I’d meet someone who has the same issue as me with fried chicken. My dad LOVED to buy fried chicken from the groceries on random Fridays or KFC. EEEW. So much grease! There has only been two times I’ve liked my chicken fried. Popeyes in a po’ boy, because you can’t taste the grease or chicken nuggets. Again, no grease flavor.
OMG you guys are making me so hungry. Last night it was so bad I had to turn my spaghetti into chinese noodles! Now I’m craving fried chicken!
Ditto!!!
I’m starving right now and can’t decide what I want most…

“‘I’m here,’ I whispered to my father, taking a seat next to his bed, moving the chair as close to him as I could.”
The Assistant by Marni Mann
FLT:
Do you ever get that feeling that the whole world has been tipped on its axis and everything in your life is about to change?
Fallen Elemental by Tamara White
Just completed A Five-minute Life by Emma Scott late last night. Couldn’t put it down. I’ll just say there was ONLY one sore spot I have about Ms Scott and this read….it ended!! Yep!! The perfect epilogue and then no more words!! Slid my finger across the screen of my tablet and zilch!! Nada. Very disappointing. 🙄
LOL!!! True… but we got TWO epilogues, Linda. That’s pretty great when you think about it. 😉
Tessa, have you read Dangerous Magic by Evie Hart? I thought you enjoyed cozy mysteries. I just saw that the author is actually Emma Hart and I’ve been itching to read this genre again. I’m not sure if it’s already been mentioned, my attention is spotty.
That looks cute! I’ll definitely give it a try. And my only issue with mysteries is I can predict them way too easily. 🙂
If it’s written well enough, I don’t fixated on the who dunnit very closely. Those romances with the suspense, the mystery, the crap they run into to solve it, the quirky heroines, broody heroes. Sometimes 2 or 3! I dk, I just love them.
But, I just watched Good Sam on Netflix and though the acting was good. The predictable storyline left me feeling that it was just stupid. Like, it could qualify as one of those cheesy hallmark movies. Lol. That’s what I assume you feel.
lol Sometimes. I actually refuse to rate a book based on figuring out who did it, unless it was badly done. Like, the whole story is there, and then the whodunnit… is some guy never mentioned throughout the whole story. Then I get upset. But if it was predictable, but the rest was awesome, I’m good. I’ll still rate it high as if there was no mystery.
FYI, that’s why I hated Spirited Away. The whole time, you are watching something this one guy, wondering who he is and why he’s so familiar and important, huge to the whole plot, then they tell you and I was honestly like, uh, wtf? WHY DIDN’T YOU MENTION ALL OF THIS HAPPENING SOMETIME IN THE LAST TWO HOURS OF THIS MOVIE??? A clue would’ve been nice. *mutters*
I’m with you Tessa.
I’ve read a few that the “twist” was completely unguessable because it was never really weaved into the story… so not near as clever as I would have liked.
Makes sense. I don’t think I’ve read enough to have that issue, yet. It would annoy me too.
Don’t watch Spirited Away. Or do. Then you’ll understand why I was so upset with it.
First Line Thursday:
“Hawthorne, be reasonable.”
from A Lady of True Distinction, a new historical romance by Grace Burrowes. Looks good.
FLT: Technically. I just finished it but haven’t started a new book yet.
“It’s the end of December—otherwise known as the Bermuda Triangle of the calendar—and still, I find myself outside of my bed, wearing business attire rather than pajamas, and acting as a functioning member of society.”
