➔➔➔ Get Maryse’s Book Blog updates delivered by email (you’ll get one daily email that will have each post from that day consolidated on it).
Good morning! It’s time! I woke up this morning to that beautiful hot pink cover on my Kindle and I’m ready to settle in with Joe Callahan and Hap and Luci. Don’t really care for the novella from the Honey series. I’m not into the domme scene, so I’ll be skipping that one.
Oh, Maryse–I’ve been meaning to ask you, what brand of magnetic eyelashes did you buy? There are bunches of them on Amazon, and I’d much rather get the ones you recommend than go by reviews that may or may not be real. And did you say you trimmed them down (or maybe cut them into sections?) to make them work better?
Good morning!
Gooooooood morning, ladies! 😀
It’s zero-dark-early here and I have a 12-hour day ahead of me, but I’m all kinds of excited because it will be one of those days with a LOT of down time…meaning I’ll feel like I’m getting paid to read! 😀
I’m going to finish The Story of Us by Nichole King (which at halfway through I feel safe in saying I LOVE!) and then it’s on to Trailer Park Heart. YAY for another Rachel Higginson book!
And OMG! Did y’all see this??
https://www.tarrynfisher.com/i-can-be-a-better-you/
We get more of the villianess, Fig, from Bad Mommy! Ooooh, I wonder what shenanigans she is going to get up to in this one. 😛
Amy Actually… I think that IS Bad Mommy. She retitled and recovered it. HOW I WISH we could get more.
Good morning all you lovlies! Between Amy’s beautiful eyebrows, Maryse & Nay’s long eyelashes and Ela’s pretty eye color, we got a bunch of hottie’s. *wolf whistles*
Anyway…I like the sound of Trailer Park Heart and Fall. I NEED something good after Bring Down the Stars. Ugh! I almost hate reading something so epic as after it nothing else compares. 🙁 Woe is me.
Morning all! Happy me day!!!! *sets coffee and strawberry cream cheese muffins on table*. Cupcakes are for later! Happy K.A. release day!!! Already one clicked! Can’t wait to start because it feels like it has been awhile since she released one….now if M Zapatas and BN Towler would release one today too then it would be an awesome day!!!
OMG DG!!!! Strawberry cheese cream muffffffiiinnnnnnnnnsssss
*salivates*
Hi Nay!!
I bought two different sets. I cut them up into sections (top and bottom) and only wear a couple of pieces for a natural effect on the top. Sometimes I mix the two different styles.
https://amzn.to/2R9DV0L <— I wear these the most. ON… they look the most natural.
And these Ardells: https://amzn.to/2R9EtDR
Good morning everyone!!! 😀
DG–funny you should mention. I checked M. Zapata’s twitter feed a couple of days ago because I figured it was about time for her to spring a book on us, and she says that one is getting close. As usual, no title, date, or any other info yet, though.
I LOVE Mariana Zapata!!!! Gah… it would be great to get a new one from her. I’m totally in the mood for her.
Thanks, Maryse! I went ahead and ordered the Oh Beauty ones and I’ll have them on Thursday! I’ll start with those and see how it goes.
Amy–I was going to add the T. Fisher book to GR (and I really couldn’t believe it wasn’t on there yet), but reading the comments about it on FB, it appears that she’s re-titled Bad Mommy and this is the new title/cover.
Good Morning EVERYONE!
Can’t wait to start “TRAILER PARK HEART” today! But work comes first 🙁
“When Forever Changes” hmmm I didn’t make it past chapter 2 on this one, Maybe I need to give it another try.
“Promise Me You” looks good.
And can’t wait for “Hate Notes” on Nov. 6th
What Maryse said… LOL
Maryse! Nothing better than something sweet with your coffee!
@marianazapata_
Jul 17
I’ve got editing scheduled. My cover designer has the title. Now all I need is a a miracle to finish this book in the next couple months.
Woohoo! Something to look forward to Nay!
Robin and I were talking about M. Zapata books the other day. I told her that I’ve been having a hankering to finally read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me and she said she may give Kulti (which I loved) a try.
OMG I have only read one Mariana Zapata books…”Wait For It” which I loved so much and I guess I didn’t realize she has written so many…looks like I’ll be coloring up my TBR 🙂
You guys just reminded me I need to read “Bad Mommy” I think that is the only Tarryn Fisher Book I have not read.
DG, is it your Birthday?
One click- Trailer Park Heart. I just LOVE her books!
I’ve had Bad Mommy on my TBR forever, don’t know what I’m waiting for, lol.
Steph & Jenn, it is SO good. I love anything by Tarryn Fisher.
My mouth is watering over DG’s muffin! Yum. I am starving and making myself some oatmeal with an over ripe banana I need to use up.
Zoodles are good, but they def do not replace pasta. What I usually do is serve them with some angel hair spaghetti (or even quinoa) to add some heft to it. But I know some of you eat super low carb.
I also have had Bad Mommy on my tbr forever. We had a BR, but I had to bail.
Finally Dark Harmony has a release date!! I’ve been patiently waiting for this last book in the series.
Before anything, Amy I’m responding here from yesterday:
I love that song! It’s been playing a lot though I haven’t noticed who sang it! Thank you! *goes and adds it to her playlist*
On that note, my playlist has almost 850 songs, and this is after removing tons of songs. *grins* Hello. My name is Tessa and I’m a music hoarder.
Yes, it is my birthday! And I live showering sugary confections upon all around me!
*LOVE not live. Geez, autocorrect or word suggestions drive me nuts sometimes! SMH
Are y’all SERIOUS?? I saw “new name, same Fig” and thought it was a NEW story with her, just maybe she would be using a new name for herself in it. I forgot the other character’s name in Bad Mommy so the name Jolene didn’t ring a bell. Well…sh!t. 😐
Happy birthday, DG!!!
…. There was more in that statement and emojis and STUFFS!
I got The Society but after that mafia list, I’m going with one of the freebies on the list.
I am on the last book which I’m fully engrossed in. The Dark Mage series by Rachel E. Carter. The last one has me uneasy where it is, so I think I just need a non-fantasy book before I can jump back into it.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DG!!!!
*tosses birthday confetti*
Birthday cake martinis all around tonight. 😀
I just KNEW it was a “you” song, Tessa. 😉
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DG!!!! 😀 <3 😀
Happy Birthday DG!! Enjoy your day!
Nay – Did I read Nay correctly up there…there are people who haven’t read The Wall of Winnipeg or Kulti? Read them now ladies!! I loved both of these soooo much!! Two of my absolute favorites!!
I also have to give some love out for Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren. I’m really, really enjoying it. I probably needed a break from all the intense and sad stories I’ve been reading lately. This one is well done and I’ve laughed out loud several times (which had my husband thinking I’d truly lost it). I’m actually fairly picky about rom coms and they typically aren’t my fave but this one is hitting the mark for me!
You know what I want from an author? The next Holy Trinity book from Madeline Sheehan. *crosses arms and harrumphs*
Thanks ladies! Also one of my newer favs of Zapata’s is From Lukov with Love…I really, really LOVED this one! So if you have’t read it yet… you need to read it. *whispers… along with Malachi and I*
*Birthday hugs for DG* 🙂
Happy Birthday DG!
I’ve had Kulti on my TBR forever. I’ve been avoiding it because I have to really love an author to be into slow burn and she’s new to me. But Renee knows me so I’ll take her word for it!
I’m finally reading “The Ribbon Duet” by Pepper Winters and OMG IS IT CAPTIVATING!!!!!
The writing is excellent, the story is intriguing and so unique (and I LOVE stories about survival). How he’s keeping it all together… how much they are learning together. WOWOWOWOWOWOWWWWW!!!!!
DG, Oh yes! I also read From Lukov with Love! You’re absolutely right that it was a really good read as well!
Robin, you haven’t read Kulti? *blinks* It is a slow burn, but it isn’t a slow book. It’s really good. 🙂
So, apparently, those freebies I’ve read as KU. lol Not that I love mafia books or anything… 😛
Happy Birthday DG!! You share a birthday with my daughter. 🙂
I need to catch up on all the comments, but I see Michele’s reading Josh and Hazel… I just finished that one and loved it too!
Oh and deleted tons more off my playlist. I’m down to 778 songs! (total numbers of songs, 7490)
And for a mafia book, I am going with Ela’s rec, Untouchables. It SOOOO looks like my type. 😀
Oh, wow! There was a conversation explosion since I last looked.
First–HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DG!! Hope you get lots of cake and treats!
Michele–I am so NOT a slow-burn girl, and books like From Lukov With Love are WAY too slow burn for me. That’s why I haven’t read TWOWAM (but I AM going to read it soon). Now, Kulti has one of my fave tropes, so I wasn’t much caring about anything slow burn AND Tessa hit the nail on the head–it may be slow burn but it definitely isn’t a slow book. I was trying to explain to Robin why I enjoyed it, and that pretty much sums it up.
Tessa–Do you think that Mage series is correctly classified as YA? Or is it closer to NA? In one review, someone said they didn’t consider it YA.
Happy Birthday DG!! Hope you get all the sweets.
I want to finish my read but also feel like a really good CR. I think it was talking of those posters last night. Like I want something well written, good dialogue, humor, strong likable heroine, flushed out side characters and a real sense of the time and place. Like the shows in the posters, lol. Stars Hallow, Neptune, and all the places in HP were characters themselves. They feel like real places.
Nay, I’m thinking maybe the last book is NA, but the first three definitely are YA.
bev–sounds like K.A.’s The Burg series or Colorado Mountain series. I’m thinking Devny Perry does series like that??
Here you go, bev:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/32379.Best_Small_Town_Romance
I just finished a series that I think you would love. It is the Donna Grant Dark Worlds series. https://www.motherofdragonsbooks.com/category/books/?series=dark-world
It starts in the 1600’s and moves to modern times. Has warriors, druids, the Faie, and dragons. I have really enjoyed them.
I enjoy your site and it helps me find other book series to read so I thought I would share one that I found that I didn’t see on your site.
Hope you enjoy,
Marci Ayres
YAY!!! Thank you Marci!!! I will look it up. 😀
Bev, the first thing that came to mind was Robyn Carr, Virgin River series. Also, Toni Blake, Destiny series. What about Kristan Higgins or Susan Elizabeth Phillips? Jennifer Crusie??
Those all feel Bev-ish to me. 😉
I’ve read the KA series and Perry was a nope for me.
I’ll check the list out, thanks.
Ahh, SEP & Crusie. I use to devour SEP. I didnt know you read them Leslie.
I’ve read some Higgins.
I do have the first in the Virgin River series. I might give it a try after my current.
Happy Happy Birthday DG!!! Hope it’s been a great one!! *toasts with birthday cake martini- thanks Amy*
Maryse, can’t wait to read your review. That Duet has been on my tbr, but I’ve been hesitant for some reason to start it.
Josh and Hazel sounds good, but too pricey for me. Several up there sound good to me, but may just choose next one because it is KU.
You guys!! I went to Shameless Book Con in Orlando this past weekend and met Mariana Zapata!! She was so awesome and signed all my books!! I fangirled hard over her 🙂
She said she is hoping to have her new book out by the beginning of December but maybe sooner!!
Whoah. Just catching up on the comments. Relaxing with a hot chocolate after work. 58 comments!! WTAH. Nay I feel you. I want to read some of the Loose Ends stories but the honey series just isn’t my thang so I’ll skip that story too. Leslie I’m with you as well. I want to try Trailer Park Heart and also Fall.
This week I like the look of some of the pnrs too. I’m considering trying a sample of the Gena Showalter. I love the cover of that one. And the blurb is intriguing. Maybe I’ll try the Lauren Dohner as well. And the new Nalini Singh when it’s out. *sigh* Somebody tell me to stop………..
Niki, lucky you. I met Grace Burrowes last month at a conference in Sydney and she was so gracious and lovely. It’s great when you happen to meet an author whose books you love and they are really nice.
Still reading the comments. Happy late birthday DG. *throws glitter bomb* Hope you had a great day. And Tasha’s daughter too. R, you haven’t read Kulti??? What, woman? One of the best CRs out there. Do it.
Jan–thanks for mentioning the G. Showalter book. I missed it, and I’d love to give her another try.
I was going through my shelves yesterday and I thought of you. Since you like HR and also read some PNR, have you ever considered KMM’s Highlander series? Most of them tie into the Fever series (I believe it’s 3-7, which have Adam Black and Christian MacKeltar’s ancestors), and they’re super sexy. I highly recommend the audiobooks–I listened to all of them.
Ela’s recommendation of Untouchable by Lindsay Delagair was spot on. It ends with an HFN, so I’m gonna wait before reading the next. So many feels! 🙂
Now, still in a mafia mood, I’m gonna try Perfect Chemistry. 🙂 Both books have started in high school, but that’s how I got into Sam Mariano, and erm, most of that series does not involve HS and all of it is adult. 😀
Welp, Perfect Chemistry is interesting, but not mafia. It’s gang, like crypt and blood. *shrugs* The guy’s gang is a mix. They are the Latino Bloods and their sign is the Crypt sign. But, whatever, still good.
Now, for the amusing part. Their rival gang is the Satin Hood. *grins* Let that name sink in. No, I didn’t misspell Satan. It’s Satin. *nods* From the name alone, their biggest rival sounds like a bunch of cosplayers or fashionistas. 😀 SOOOO many jokes available from what I *hope* was a mass typo. Like, fix all, oops, I made all the fixes satin not Satan, cause um… 😀
I agree about Josh and Hazel. Loved it! I didn’t want it to end.
Aww thanks ladies for all the wonderful birthday wishes! It was a great one! Amy thanks for the birthday cake martini…just yum! Tasha – happy birthday to your daughter! I hope she had a awesome one too!
Haven’t started the K.A….kinda want to make it last since they are far and few between. Also, the second book Jerk book by Max Monroe goes live!!!!! So ready to read this one as well!!!
So tried the new KA. Joe and Vi were my first book from her. I skimmed the whole thing.
I keep having this problem with her books. I might actually have to break up with her.
Gah, I hate that. It makes me sad. When I discovered her I glommed her back list and every new book was an auto buy.
Tessa, now I’m imagining them with satin kerchief to protect their curls lol.
RIGHT? OMG, seriously. I’m imagining a group of guys in hoods with wands. Oooh, or the villain. They’ve got swords and bows… Yeah. The name! 😀
bev–I feel like it’s blasphemy, but I’m not enjoying the K.A. book either. The Joe/Vi story was just…pointless. And I figured that K.A.’s ‘short story’ would be 50 pages. Nope! It was maaaybe 15 pages. Such a disappointment.
Nooo. 🙁 Nay and bev I’m sad now. I’ve fallen out of love with KA a little too, and was hoping this one would bring back my lurve. Damn. Oh well, I’d preordered, so I will try it eventually.
I’m loving the Satin Hood. That’s hysterical. i don’t know whether it’s funnier if it was a boo-boo or if it’s deliberate. I’m an English teacher and we like to have an occasional mad cackle over some of the accidental clangers students make. This sounds like it’s in that vein.
Nay I think I tried the KMM highlanders once and didn’t lurve. But maybe I need to try again. It was a while ago. Thanks for thinking of me 🙂
Oh, and I’ve started the new Kristen Callihan, Fall. A bit of a slow burn, but I prefer that to silly instalust/ instalove. I quite like both H and h and will keep going to see where we get. SFSG. I’m at 31%.
There is nothing worse than feeling like you have to break up with a fave author. 🙁 I will find an author I enjoy, binge on all her books, then I OD on them.
Ooh Jan, I want to read Fall. It’s been getting some good buzz.
I’m not giving up on Loose Ends yet. I was disappointed about the length of the Joe/Vi super short story, so after that, I couldn’t get into the Hap/Luci story. And I also have 2 challenge books looming over my head, so I’m going to get those read, and then I’m going to revisit K.A.
I fell in love with her style, though can see how it is not for all, but now it seems too indulgent. I know that most authors have a style that you will almost always recognize, but I shouldn’t feel like I could outline the plot before I’m past the first chapter. Even the long descriptions are the same. Something will always be fabulous or kick ass. But I have to just stop. I’ve been complaining for a couple years now, so now I’m just feeling mean that I keep reading and complaining.
Has anyone else noticed how rampant cover changing has become? I swear it seems like just about every other book I click on lately has gotten a new cover.
I think authors have clued in on the fact that people DO judge books by their cover and once they’ve gotten to where sales drop off (or maybe the sales never got going in the first place), they change the cover to try to attract a new group of people. It’s really a smart way to look at marketing. I’ve seen more than one that I wasn’t interested in before, but now, I want to read them. Which is extremely silly if you think about it, because…same book!
Nay… it’s almost subliminal. We shouldn’t judge a book by the cover, but we just can’t help it.
They talk about this in Inkers (Alessandra Torre’s FB writers group) and apparently changing the cover (and in many cases the blurb), gives a stale book new life. Alessandra swears by it.
It hurts though. I still haven’t completely forgiven Suanne for Fish Tales.
I’d consider messing with my blurb, but my cover will be buried with me. It’s the number one reason I wanted to self publish.
I am nodding my head vigorously to Bev’s “I shouldn’t feel like I could outline the plot before I’m past the first chapter” comment. Bev, it’s not mean, it’s the truth. I KNOW we all read a lot, but we also need fresh stories. I hardly ever read the same authors I used to when I first got into romance for that exact reason.
As far as covers go…I understand from an authors marketing perspective why they would change it. But as a reader…I hate it. It’s confusing and annoying and it makes me crazy. Sorry I sound extra crabby. I had a busy morning with no breakfast…it’s noon and I am finally just now eating something.
Nay – same on the KA book. Stopped for now and on to the new Max Monroe – The Day The Jerk Started Falling which released today!!! Happy dance!!!
R., I love your covers…please don’t ever change them.
I understand the cover changing from a marketing perspective. As a consumer though, it’s frustrating because you lose the recognition factor. I’m glad to have GR to help me keep it all straight (and Amazon to not let me re-buy the same book) otherwise I’d be in a world of hurt.
R, you absolutely cannot change your beautiful book cover! It sounds like you won’t …but just making sure!!
Michele I agree with you; without GR& Amazon I would be in book debt. Sometimes I go through all the books on my kindle and ones that I have read are automatically updated with the new covers and it is so confusing.
Leslie, I just ate too for the first time today. I am sick and at work which is not a good combo, I need to take your GR avatar and apply it to me today and probably tomorrow too 🙂 If it wasn’t for the awesome book that I am reading I would be beyond crabby; not sure there is an avatar for that.
I agree with all R; do not change your beautiful cover!
Robin–it’s funny that when I was typing that post, I was thinking, “I know one author who’ll NEVER change her cover!” lol
No way! I love the cover! I bought the painting when I was only a quarter of the way through writing it. Then I spent 3 days working on my argument to convince the artist to let me use it, unnecessarily as it turned out. I did see a couple of reviews where they almost didn’t read it because they thought it was YA.
Not being able to buy the same book over helps, but if an author changes covers and blurb they need to add the warning that it is not the first time in print.
That’s the thing Bev…it gets confusing. If it weren’t for me marking everything on Goodreads, I would have repurchased a few book because of rebranding.
Like Amy the other day got all excited thinking new book was out and it was just a new cover. 🙁
Yeah that’s happened to me Leslie – getting sucked in and thinking cool! new book by a fav author! yay! I’ve even read a blurb and think that sounds good! Before actually realising, hang on, I’ve read this one 🙁
Fall is going pretty well so far. The h has an interesting and unusual job but hey, no spoilers. I’ll let you find out for yourself. But this book kinda explores the value of kindness, which is wonderful. I love that.
Hey. FLT.
There is a man following me.
from Fall by Kristen Callihan. It sounds a bit creepy LOL but it’s not. It’s quite a funny meet-cute.
I’m mixed about the book covers. I can see the argument by the authors that it helps with sales; I think especially since we seem to have moved away from the cheesy, half naked, same guy pic, to something more artistic. However, I agree it needs to come with a “warning” that this is a re-release. I also think it would be nice if Amazon builds in a notice to have the choice if we want the new cover on our kindle; instead of having to opt out of auto updates.
Trying to motivate myself to go to the gym now. Wasn’t able to go earlier and now I *can* go. Too tired and it’s chilly outside. 😉
I have a question since last Thursday I apparently did first line of chapter one and Michele did first line of prologue as we were reading same book.
Jan, My Ahjussi the kdrama I loved earlier this year explores exactly that! It was such a beautiful show. I wish it was a book so I could put it in Amy’s hands (probably Maryse too as they are twins) I feel like she’d love the heroine. Just, as of right now, my favorite story if the year in book, movie, drama or song
Jenn, either or. First lines easy like that.

The Failing Hours: How to Date a Douchebag by Sara Ney. Entertaining, but could could use better editing.
Ok, I say My Ahjussi and then I start listening to an old podcast that has a segment on Healer. Just listening to the hosts talk of their favorite parts has me giddy again, lol.

Just finished reading The Monster Ball… ugh! So many of them left me wanting more. Will any of the novellas be continued anywhere?
Thanks!
