Here’s another one that’s floating around the internet, and it would appear, nobody can figure out, so Tasha brings it to us! Hopefully one of us knows!!
Tasha asks:
“Hi Maryse, I’m following this thread on The Locker Room and there is over 225 comments and no one can figure out what book this is. Maybe you can help, I’ve copied the post, please see below: Thanks for any help! Tasha
I’m issuing a call for help to the Locker Room, as there is a book I’ve been thinking of and can’t recall the title to.”
And here is what she copy-pasted for us:
“The hero is a pro athlete (I want to say football), lives in a modern or FLW style home. The heroine might be a college student (not sure on this point).Β Anyway, the hero and the heroine either have sex or he tells her he loves her for the first time, and then he gets a phone call (thinks she is asleep). He says some not nice things that she hears and she gets upset and goes to his teammate who lives across the street.
There is a plot about him having a child he didn’t know about, I think the mother just drops the kid off at the house.
There is a party at the teammate’s house across the street and either the hero or heroine gets absolutely plastered.
I think the heroine is living with the hero for some reason (possibly just as roommates). They both have families that are nosy, and I think at one point the heroine’s father takes the hero aside and threatens him not to hurt the heroine. It is also possible that the heroine has a sibling who is a complete mess (and might sell the hero and heroine’s story to the paps?). This might also be the first in the series.
Anywho, that’s what I recall. And my kindle is bursting at the seams, so a look through my books didn’t help me figure it out.”
WAIT! WAIIIT. A. MINUTE!!!!!!! I know this one. I read it!!! I loved it!
Is it…Β Room 212Β by Kate Stewart? <— I can’t tell from my review (Darn me!! Sometimes I’m so anti-spoiler I can’t even use my own backtracking to pinpoint a book). LOL!!! BUT I THINK THAT’S IT!! In fact, I’m gonna pull up that book and look at my highlights to see.
If you know which one, post below!! But I know for a fact I read this. I totally remember this scene and I was FURIOUS!!!!
OR!!! Is it this one?Β Starting FiresΒ byΒ Makenzie Smith <— From my review, it totally could be…
I am not sure of the answer, but it definitely was not Starting Fires. In that book the H was a musician that owned a bar and the h came to live next door with her best guy friend and his two roommates. Then they started an affair which grew into a relationship. Lots of angst but I enjoyed the story. Great book but does not fit with this question. I am not sure of this answer.
Ahhhh right!!! Agreed Theresa!!!
I know that the angst in both of these was just about “light-perfect” for me… I bet it’s Room 212, then. That was my first instinct. π
It’s definitely not Room 212, but that description sounds so freaking familiar! Alright, I’m going to hunt that one down ’cause it’s driving me nuts now.
Hey, did anyone ever figure out that one book that had everyone in a tizzy trying to figure it out, the one where the H was a club owner and the h had a baby but didn’t tell him?
Darn… okay the hunt continues. I HAVE READ THIS ONE. I remember that scene distinctly!!!
And the other girl WAS NOT his girlfriend, but she was a socialite or something, family-approved, and trying so hard to be his girl… and she was his “every once in awhile”… and that’s when OUR girl realized that he had something else going on, on the side (sort of)… and even he didn’t completely reject it all… so she was SO hurt.
GASP I KNOW THIS BOOK!!!!
I mean… there’s no way it was “The Deal” right? Elle Kennedy?
I LOVED that book, you’d think i’d be sure of this…
Wasn’t he on a hockey team in “the deal”. She was helping him study cause she liked his room mate/teammate. They were in college. No babies. Right?
Lisa I was second-guessing myself on that one too…
But if I remember right, this girl was a “bad girl”… a party girl and they were having fun and she really liked him… and the OTHER girl (on the phone call was kind of his ex… but pre-arranged by his parents sort of) and wouldn’t let go.
And then!!! OH YES!!!!
The “other” girl (phone call girl) ends up at his place for a Holiday dinner and that really puts them into a tail spin… remember???
I wish I could look up the word “Thanksgiving” in ALL of my Kindle books. LOL! That would fix us!
No, not The Deal…but HOLY CRAP I *know* this one! Ugh!! We HAVE to figure this one out…
Okay,.. and this is one with a similar angsty-trope… although I don’t think this is it.
IT TOTALLY COULD BE IT… but nooooooo…
I remember the scene… they were in college for sure (and in this book they’re pretty much adults doing their thing). Harms… It can’t be this one, can it?

It’s not the Mason List, is it? I know she didn’t consider herself really “family approved” as his mate, but they loved her and took care of her… and you WOULD see a rich girl trying to interfere in their couple…
I could see that… https://www.maryse.net/books/book-review-the-mason-list-by-sd-hendrickson.html
This one sounds so familiar – the thanksgiving scene is there but I can remember for the life of me the book name !
And she’s a snotty thing (the one trying to be the “girlfriend”) subtly getting in the heroine’s face… with her snarky remarks… (and then one time, right in her face).
I don’t *think* it’s Mason List, but I can’t say 100% for sure on that.
*frustrated sigh* I’m supposed to be working right now and instead I’m still looking for this one. Yep, my priorities are in order. π
Hello! I’m the OP from facebook, and it isn’t either one of those books you mentioned, Maryse. The characters were older (at least the hero was) and the heroine was younger than him.
The other members in the Locker Room are getting a little rabid for the title, so I hope someone finds it soon!
Oh no this one is ringing a bell with me too…but it just won’t come to me. Ughhh this will annoy me until someone figures it out!
It kind of sounds like the Driven series by K. Bromberg.
Ummm…a long shot here but is it True Diary of That Girl?
Except I don’t remember a kid in that one. π
Never mind, that’s not it.
Sounds so familiar…
The Perfect Game, J Sterling?
I honestly don’t know what it is, but it sounds a lot like Maybe Someday. Any books you all compared to it?
Okay, I’ve never posted before, but this sounds so familiar. Could it be Only For You by Beverley Kendall?
Maryse thanks for posting & Katie Lynn, thanks for commenting since you are the only one that can confirm if any guesses are correct. I hope someone can figure it out soon!
It’s not Perfect Game or Maybe Someday. The hero definitely wasn’t in college.
Is it Against the Ropes Sarah Castille?
I have read Against the Ropes, but that’s not it.
Perfect Play by Jaci Burton
Not Perfect Play. The child is the hero’s, not the heroine’s.
Darn this is a hard one
I think this is Suddenly Sexy by Linda Francis Lee. He is a pro golfer but all the other details fit from what I can remember. I hope this is right cause it’s been making me crazy trying to figure this out.
Some parts of this sound a bit like ‘Zack’ from the Cold Fury Hockey series. He has a child and is sleeping with his nanny and she over hears him saying she’s no one special.
But he’s a widower and his child isn’t dropped off by the mother.
