Underestimated: Book One
Crazy-dark read (I liked it!) and it took me awhile but I finally finished it! *phew* I was reading and reading and reading and I looked down and was only at like… 20-something percent, and I wondered if it was just me being slow. Then I continued the next day for hours and hours and was only at 50-something percent. I don’t know why I didn’t bother to check the page count listed on Amazon, ’cause I just checked now at OMG it’s over 500 pages long! Well that explains why it took me three evenings to finish. Reflecting back on it (and the parts I ended up skimming) I think it could (and should) have been condensed.

My Top Ten Dark Reads
I’ve been asked for a list like this… oh… for about a year now. Ever since I came out with my little “dark read” obsession. What a relief it was to find out I wasn’t alone in my weird thrill.
Dena: any chance you will put together a list of “dark” reads on your blog?
Alicia: She has dark reads…how dark do you wanna go? She’s got the BDSM dark, but if you want darker, there’s a few out there that aren’t on here.
Dena: I loved her recommendation for the captive in the dark series, Comfort Food, etc..
Book Review – Escape From Paradise by Gwendolyn Field
Escape From Paradise
<— Oooooooooh yesssss!! Dark and uncomfortable, just like I like ’em. And I didn’t feel half as guilty loving this one ’cause it’s everything we kidnap-read addicts love, but with a slightly lighter edge to it. It’s not as harsh, or hardcore, and the human “monsters”, while scary, are just not as intense as some of my nightmare stockholm syndrome books, but this is a good thing.
If you think you might have an inclination for a darker read such as the ones we discuss (like this), but you’re nervous, this might be the one to start with.
Book Review – Epilogue by CJ Roberts
Epilogue (The Dark Duet Book 3)
Sidenote: If you haven’t read the first two books in the series yet, skip this review and head over to my first review. I don’t quite “spoil” anything below, but this series is best experienced each step of the way through the eyes of the two main characters. This is the “epilogue” and you shouldn’t know this part, yet. 😉 Oh, and here is the reading order.
I think… I loved this one the most. It’s hard to say for sure considering the intense addiction I had to the first two books. I’m a book adrenaline-junkie and this series had it all. The fear-factor mixed in with the crazy intense love story/stockholm syndrome aspect that is my own brand of guilty pleasure). I’m a sucker for a sexy but true “bad guy” with a touch of that “je ne sais quoi” that gives me hope for change and this series was … my perfect read.
Book Review – Unbeautifully by Madeline Sheehan
Unbeautifully (Undeniable: Book Two)
Two for two this week for me and I loved this one on an almost 5-star level. Ooooooh it was almost perfect for me, even when I was appalled at a few of the men (eeeep! Deuce is too much for me, at times), I was good with the “realism”. I knew what I was heading into, and would have been disappointed if the bikers weren’t true to their characters. The author did not let us down.
There is no such thing as “politically correct” in this group. Women who debase themselves just to be a “part” of them are disrespected (and while I’m on the subject, the “old ladies” can be, and often are, too). Angry tirades are taken out on the wrong people. Murder, mayhem and criminal activity abound. Plus, they have their own version of the bro-code and the punishment doesn’t always fit the crime (in our eyes) but in theirs… well. Eeeeeeeep! From beatdowns, to “going to ground”, you eff up? You pay.
