Reader Question – Rules for genres… what do you consider a "romance" novel?

Okay so this one doesn’t necessarily have us searching for a particular book, but brings up an interesting topic as many of us long-time readers are learning there are actual rules for various “genres”.

Melanie asked me about this, and I thought it would be perfect to open up for discussion!

Melanie asks:

I have a question about genre rules. I’ve thought one way my whole life about what romance novels are, but I learned last night in an author group that there’s an entirely different set of rules, and I’m hoping I can get your opinion on it. read more

Melissa needs our book help!! AND OMG YES!!!! I LOVE THAT SONG. Hard. It makes my heart aches and it’s so intense. I can imagine just listening to that song while reading this scene and feeling it.

But! I don’t think I know which book this is.

She asks:

There is a book from my past I am desperately thing to remember. I read it about 4 years ago and want to re-read it but can’t remember the name.

I believe it was a series.

The most I can recall is at some point the characters had broken up and the she was staying with a friend. The guy either sent her a tape or something that had Hozier’s “Take Me To Church“. read more

Girlfriend? Sister? Mom? Not sure but I think it’s great he’s come to us! And it sounds good, so maybe a new book for us to read?

Looking for a book about a couple who got separated because the guy thought he was impotent and couldn’t give her a child. They got divorced.

The guy became rich (he was a former construction worker) and they met again at a company he bought where she was working at. He didn’t know that his wife got pregnant and had a child with him. read more
