Book Review – A Darker Dream by Amanda Ashley

January 1, 2010 By Maryse 19 Comments

WINNER UPDATE!! Jennifer Brian was selected by the randomizer to win this copy! Congratulations Jennifer!!

A Darker Dream was the last book I read in 2009. It entertained me well enough for a day (or two), although I felt the the angst in the last quarter of the book to be drawn out longer than necessary.

This book takes place in the early 1900’s where a 15 year old girl (Rhianna) is presented to a gathering of wealthy men to be sold. As the trembling girl is made to disrobe, Rayven takes pity on her, tells her to keep her clothes on, and purchases her on the spot. read more

What I am Reading Today – A Darker Dream by Amanda Ashley

Ohhh look what I found! A book by Amanda Ashley called “A Darker Dream”, that doesn’t appear to be part of a deeply involved series. It seems to be a historical romance with vampires…best of both worlds!

It goes something like this: Rhianna is sold by her father (due to extreme poverty) to a dark stranger (Rayven – a vampire). He ends up treating her like a queen (but he has that wonderful vampire angst that won’t dare to allow himself to love)… oooooh sounds like an easy one night stand of fun (reading that is ;)) read more

Book Review – Holiday with a Vampire II by Merline Lovelace and Lori Devoti

Holiday with a Vampire II: A Christmas Kiss\The Vampire Who Stole Christmas (Silhouette Nocturne (Numbered))
Since I would be busy over the Christmas weekend and didn’t think I should involve myself too deeply in a new series, I found this book with two short stories. I figured they probably wouldn’t demand my undivided attention, so I gave these a go. Since I’m trying to save all of my must reads for J.Kaye’s 100+ Reading Challenge, I thought I’d stick with stand alones, and anthologies for the remainder of the year. I’ve been known to get too caught up in a series ignoring all else around me, and perhaps that’s not very nice during family time (hehe). However, since I really can’t go more than 24hrs without at least a little bit of reading (or I go stir-crazy), I had to do something. read more

Book Review – Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Ashes of Midnight (The Midnight Breed, Book 6)

CAREFUL!! To properly review this book, I had to divulge some spoilers from book 5 – so if you haven’t reached Book 5 yet, do NOT read this.

Book 6 in the series was crazy fun! We had numerous evil villains, a good-guy with a devastating power, a forbidden love affair, and of course, The Order.

The gorgeous and renowned bad-boy, Andreas Reichen (a Berlin Darkhaven leader) is hell bent on vengeance. Having just lost everyone he loved and protected to an attack on his Darkhaven, he is out to destroy his enemy, Wilhelm Roth (the very same man who blood-bonded to the only woman Reichen ever loved, “Claire”). read more

Book Review – Veil of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Veil of Midnight: A Midnight Breed Novel (The Midnight Breed Series Book 5)
Merry Christmas to everyone! I hope you all got everything you wished for this year (lots of hugs from family & friends, and lots and lots of books!) While I have a quick break from cooking and family, I thought I’d slip in a quick review. I have finished the last two books in the series, and am anxiously anticipating the next in the series coming out at the end of this month.

Book five in the series was my least favorite. While it did help progress the story in the overall war against the evil vampires, the declarations of love between the two main characters felt rushed and unbelievable. Considering the two were absolute strangers, and that “Renata” continuously attacked Nicolai, their quick and unconditional acceptance of one another seemed dubious at best. Mind you, when it came to declarations of love, Nicolai had it, over all the other men in the series, hands down. WOW! If I had actually “bonded” to the couple in this story, I would have absolutely melted over his romantic professions to her. read more
