WEDNESDAY MORNING BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!! Colleen Hoover’s “Heart Bones“!!!! IT IS LIVE!!!!!!!!! Who’s reading this one today? ME!!! That’s who. I already started and I’m already SO into it (it catches you right from the very start!!!). She’s about to start college and has to go live with her dad… and then she meets her new neighbor.
“...She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they’re both drawn to sad things. Which means they’re drawn to each other. With an almost immediate connection too intense for them to continue denying, Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn’t realize is that a rip current is coming, and it’s about to drag her heart out to sea.”
Sarah: 🙋🏻♀️ I was hooked in chapter one. Colleen Hoover is such an incredible author! She paints pictures I didn’t know words could.
Carrie: 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️
Karen: Moi!
Ashley: It’s sooooo good! I’m currently teaching fourth and second grade math and pre-k reading while trying to sneak pages here and there 🤣 Dang homeschool!

Thanks everyone!
Great list today, Maryse. I don’t know where to start 😀 *sips coffee*
Let me know if you end up trying one. 😉
I’v downloaded a sample of The Truest Thing but haven’t tried it yet. Could be good.
The getaway was wonderful. No one wanted to come home (adult or child) so we’d like to make it longer next year and visit Salem, Massachusetts. Something different. The castle was neat, quiet with very few people. Bed was suuuuper comfortable. And I read a ton. The murder mystery was ok. I was hoping it’d be more of a dinner and show, but it was interactive with the audience and I don’t really like doing that. Still had a good time observing.
Glad you enjoyed 🙂
I have only seen those mystery dinners on tv. Always wondered if they were truly interesting or wasted money. I went to a pirates dinner once in Florida. The food was amazing, the show was ok rs
I think it’d be super fun if you were with a bigger group or with some real extroverts. There were certainly tons of people really into it and though the actors made sure to visit every table, they lingered more around those groups and it was hard to pay attention/hear all the commotion that way.
Also, interested in Heart Bones! And I (surprise) got Live in Love by Lauren Akins on my kindle this morning. I preordered a long time ago and didn’t realize it released today. I’m over halfway now on The Guest List, hoping to finish soon!
Reading heart bones now about 50% into it. I’m not sure if I super love it, but I super like it so far. I feel like I am trying to rush it rather than enjoy it. The writing is gorgeous. The book is very emotionally haunting so far, I think I just need to go to sleep…
YAY!! Thank you Liz!!!
It hooked me right from there start. I’m already totally into it. I can’t wait to have some time to get back to it.
I just finished Heart Bones, it was absolute perfection. There is nothing I would change about it. I sure had my doubts when I was in the middle of it, but the beauty of it all emerged.
I imagine that Colleen started the book and got her inspiration with A line from her book. “There’s a saying from Maya Angelou that reminds me of our situation. When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time”.
My heart bones sure felt this one.
I’m half way through it and totally still into it! Though I was hoping for a bit more brooding and unresponsiveness from him.. LOL!
I just finished reading Heart Bones and even though I ADORE!!! Colleen Hoover stories, this one was… just ok (for me). Don’t get me wrong, the writing is beautiful, the story is emotional, but I felt like I didn’t get enough time with the characters, like they didn’t get enough time with each other.
I’m with you. It was an ok read. It was really well written, the story had true potential, but the execution fell short. It’s such a powerful story that should move you easily, but it didn’t. And the reason for that is what to said, there was a lot that was only said and not shown. With that, we weren’t able to feel all the feelings. Also, this plot requires a lot more development, especially the relationship between the couple and the h and her father.
Yes! It was just ok for me. It left me feeling unresolved. It wasn’t deep enough for that intense of a connection given everything our characters have been through. Also didn’t feel like she & her dad has enough resolution on the page. I’m left feeling more anger at the heroine’s past than she bc she went through this amazing transformation off page. 😣
Maryse, I love how you started “blast from the past” thing. It’s so cool to see all the “oldies but goodies”
Happy Birthday to R. & Harper!
Tasha, you and EVERYONE needs to come to Salem, MA (once all the cooties are gone). Salem is on the north shore and I live in central MA, but its not far!!!
Jan, I am still giggling picturing your giant exploding bread from the other day. I have never made homemade bread (no bread machine) but was thinking of trying it in oven but I’m afraid of working with yeast. What if it grows so big it over takes my kitchen??😜
What can I read that won’t stress me out? I just can’t do sad and emotional but yet I’m not in mood for an over the top comedy either. A light, happy romance is what I need.
I LOVED my bread machine when I was eating bread. Made various breads every single week and I was always so happy with how they turned out. A few times they would get big and touch the lid too. LOL!!!
My favorite was when I’d make cinnamon raisin bread. Ahhhhhhh YUMMMMM with butter shortly after removing it all warm and yummy.
Ooh cinnamon raisin bread sounds good. i might try that in my bread maker 😀
Leslie, Idk if u like historical fiction or fantasy, but they’re my go-tos when I want to escape. HF is generally more light hearted, so it might be your best bet. I’m a stan for anything Julie Garwood, Lisa Kleypas, Judith McNaught, etc. I’ve read them all multiple times, so I’m biased.
Hi Diana! Thanks for the suggestions. I pretty much only read contemporary romance (despite my love for Twilight) but probably need to give historicals another try.
And YAY!! I’m glad you’re enjoying the Blast from the Past. There are a lot of new readers here too, and they may not have seen all of our old antics and favorites yet… 🙂
I’m so excited!! I’m hoping COVID dies down and I can start setting up plans beginning of next year. 😃 May need to ask you some touring suggestions! 😉
I’m not super familiar with Salem but my son has a friend who goes to Salem State, so we can get you some good info. I have been there though and its a very pretty coastal town.
Salem State! I didn’t even know that existed. I’m gonna check it out, see if I can get a kid to study there….this is going to be fun!
Hi Leslie,
Hmm…light, happy, contemporary romance, you say? Here are some of my favourites…maybe you’ll find one in this list…Good Luck!

Have you tried Rosalind James? Nice romances, often set in lovely locations like New Zealand. I recently read and liked Sexy As Sin set in beautiful Byron Bay Australia (and the US). I also liked Kiwi Rules about an Afghanistan vet who lost part of his leg, and also her rugby series, starts with Just This Once.
Jan,
I’m still enjoying Rosalind James…loved Kiwi Rules & about to read Stone Cold Kiwi, the next book in that series…Many of her books on my TBR list!
Good to have an Aussie reader on our team! 😉😊
Thanks Jan! I just borrowed Just This Once (Escape to New Zealand #1) from audible escape
Hope you enjoy!

Okay, I read Heart Bones this morning before work. I feel so unfulfilled/dissatisfied! I need to discuss, haha.
GAH!! I can’t discuss yet ’cause I’m only half way through it.
FLT
“I walk around like everything is fine but deep down inside my shoe my sock is sliding off.”
Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis
(Originally from The Mixed-Up Files of Tilly Adams’s Journal)
Ha ha ha. Nice first line. I like that.
My FLT: “And a gentleman should realise that a lady has a mind of her own, for goodness sake.”
From London’s Perfect Scoundrel by Suzanne Enoch. The classic historical romance reform of a rake trope. I’m enjoying it.
You sure this story isn’t based in 2020? 🙂
Ha ha ha.

Hi! *waves* nice to see you!
AMY!!!! I have been thinking about you and worrying that you were working with covid people and that you may have caught some cooties. So nice to have you back. 🙂
P.S. I like that Manny is being safe and wearing a mask
LOL. I didn’t notice that. Good on you, Manny.
I’m so happy to be back! 🤗
*fans Maryse* What is this Blast From Our Book Past you speak of? I sounds FUN!!
OMG AMY I LOVE YOUR PIC!!
Okay so like… every Tuesday and Friday main posts (maybe even Monday?) I include at the top area of the post a few links to old posts from that exact same day… 3 years ago… or 5 years ago etc etc.
We get to reminisce and new readers here get to find out about the books and lists we went crazy for way back when.
And yesterday, I just dedicated a whole post to “blasts from the pasts from August 20th)
Scroll up (and right above Audiobook Lovers section) and you’ll see a few Blasts from the past links on this post. 🙂
Oh and here is the post I did yesterday that was just Blasts from the Pasts:

Aww thanks Maryse. 😊 Even Manny has to wear a mask right now. You can’t see but my mask is COVERED in pink rhinestones!
That blast from the past is SUCH a great and fun idea!! I have to check out the other ones you’ve posted.
