The Last Flight: A Novel <— HOLY MOLY EPIC BLURB JOLT & THIS BOOK DELIVERED!!!! WOW!! If you like books about a women (in this case, two completely separate women) on the run escaping abuse (or a bad situation) this one is for you! A thriller through and through and one I couldn’t help but devour.
The crazy thing is that it’s been on my TBR list since its release, but it’s another one that I forgot over time. It went on sale again recently, and I one-clicked it SO hard and finally… all of my wishes for a book that I couldn’t put down came true!! LOL!! It’s true! 😉
JR: The Last Flight by Julie Clark. Not a romance but a thriller that kept me guessing until the end.
Steph N: This kept me intrigued and the ending shook me. I still think about it and I’m one of those that forgets books I have read easily.
Amber: Agreed! Such a great book!
Julie: Loved this one!
Maryse: OMG I AM DYING to read The Last Flight!!! That is the ultimate blurb jolt and I can’t imagine where it even goes, but I bet it’s exciting!!
Tasha J: I’d never heard of it, but now am excited to read it, snagged The Last Flight by Julie Clark. Sounds good!
Kathy: I have been eyeing The Last Flight and definitely think I will try that one … Now that my son is safely back at school I can read a book about a plane crash!
Jaw dropping moments, edge-of-your-seat OH NOOOOOOOing, moments of utter despair and defeat (one reveal had my already freaking out, “scared-for-her” heart… crashing in terror), moments of sweetness and relief, and then all of that over and over again. And then… an incredible ending! It was just… exciting (and terrifying). I love when that happens. In books!! Only and always only in books. 😂
So what’s it about? I’m going to keep this “light” because it gets crazy in the best of ways, and it’s much more fun to go in blind. All I went on is the synopsis – see part of it below (totally my book-catnip!!), and let the story take me away.
So here is the part that got me. Claire is planning to run from her powerful, “perfect” but secretly abusive husband (with ties EVERYWHERE) and she’s about to go solo on a business trip…
(taken directly from the book synopsis):
…a chance meeting in the airport bar brings her together with a woman whose circumstances seem equally dire. Together they make a last-minute decision.
The two women switch tickets, with Claire taking Eva’s flight to Oakland, and Eva traveling to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away.
But when the flight to Puerto Rico crashes, Claire realizes it’s no longer a head start but a new life. Cut off, out of options, with the news of her death about to explode in the media, Claire will assume Eva’s identity, and along with it, the secrets Eva fought so hard to keep hidden…
Oh yeah… that blurb had me sitting straight up in my chair!!!
Despite my efforts to hide the evidence—a towel pulled higher around my chest, hung around my neck, or draped across my shoulders—Petra had silently watched the progression of Rory’s rage across my skin.
“That’s not the first one of those I’ve seen on you.”
This book had my heart POUNDING!!
After more than a year of careful planning, constant terror that the smallest error might lead to the discovery of what I’m about to do, the moment is finally here. I’m packed. I have everything I need. Rory is gone—to the office, to a meeting, it hardly matters. All I have to do is get dressed and walk out the door one last time.
WHOA!!! I WAS ALL IN.
All it takes is one tiny thread connecting your new life to your old one and it’ll all fall apart.” His dark eyes latched onto mine and held. “You can never go back. Not once. Not in any way, ever.”
I had a favorite character (who’s story I preferred) but it wasn’t long before I was invested in both stories.
Eva stood, riveted, as she listened to the hysterical unraveling of a woman in danger. A woman on the run. A woman like herself.
It’s so clever how it is delivered to us in pieces… current situation, backtracking so we see how everything started, certain connections, every detail subtly laid out for our reading-thrill pleasure. The characters feel real, and you feel like you’re watching a movie, full of hope… and dread.
This is the life I have ahead of me. Always being alert. Aware. Holding the most important parts of myself back.
In my excitement last night, I tried telling the story to my boyfriend but there was no way I could do it justice. It came out a jumbled, garbled mess with me trying to explain it all, and I think I confused him more than entertained him. 😂
But I promise, the author lays it out perfectly. Go with the flow and you’ll be hooked right from the start.
Seriously. I didn’t know where it was going, how it would end, in fact, I had my own ideas of where the book was about to go due to a certain detail, and well… let’s just say the author had me HOOKED and surprised me!

Hi Lorna!
I do have a category called “war time” and most of it pertains to historical fiction. I need to expand on this section!! 😀

I got into this one really quickly and couldn’t put it down, but the ending?!? I SO wanted it to end differently.
Agreed!!
Haven’t been to your website in a while and I remember loving it so much! Decided to come back for a quick look at your 5 star ratings….Do you not do this anymore?? 2022?? Disappointed, but maybe I don’t have an updated version of your website. Please advise and thank you!
Hi Heidi!
I do, but I just haven’t found anything that I 5-star loved in awhile. I might be needing to change up my genre for awhile. I will post new reviews soon (2 more coming, but both on a 3 star-ish level for me)
Thank you, Maryse! Glad to hear that you are still keeping up with your reviews and website!! You are FANTASTIC, and this is my favorite website to come to for all things books! LOL
