Following my heart, one book at a time...
What I especially enjoyed was the little reveal about 10% into the story, that I was not expecting at all. It had me even more excited to read it, and we get to re-live it, throughout the book (past and present) with the heroine. It’s a nightmare situation (at least, to me it is) and totally my book catnip. I am hooked on books with this trope. You’ll see. 😉
Maryse: …this one was given some great recommendations in regards to the scare factor. Then I saw that Stephen King and another author I love (Sarah Pinborough) quoting how good it was, and I knew I had to give it a try. I’m in at about 20% and enjoying it. Not scary yet, but I definitely see where it will be soon. P.S. I LOVE the pet cat. 😉
Sure enough, the writing style, the flow, and the main character’s POV was interesting enough to keep me reading. I loved “living life” through her eyes. Life during a pandemic, and lockdown, and all of the insecurities that go along with it… plus, a new roommate (her mother!!). One she has a strained relationship with. OH YES. I was in!
Here I was, silently perusing my Facebook feed when I came upon a book recommendation request, and THIS one showed up. There was shock and awe right after and a mini-discussion of sorts about it (’cause it’s ummm…*ahem* a cannibalism one). So I HAD to have it. Yep. I paid full price, and it’s not that long of a book.

A quick read, easy to follow (eventually, after half the book consisting of one POV, it turns into 4 different POVs which was fine since it didn’t jump back and forth much). And yes, we have one unreliable narrator, but who is it? 😉
The reviews mentioning the crazy, unpredictable twists? Ehhh… I dunno. I didn’t predict them wholeheartedly but one I had a feeling of and then promptly forgot about that feeling (even though I was eventually partially correct). In that grand scheme of things, I wasn’t all that invested in it, to keep guessing. I decided to just let the author tell me the story.
