in My Book Reviews

Happy Friday to everyone!! My favorite day of the week, especially today, ’cause…

It’s my birthday today! :D And on a Friday, of all days! *squeeee!!* That means I can pretty much shirk my responsibilities, right? Sometimes I wonder if I should scowl at my birthday ’cause, you know… *whipsers* the “getting older” thing. neutral But my husband always makes my birthdays so fun and he’s soooo sweet the whole day, so it’s my favorite. And since it’s Friday… I’m making it my birthday weekend.

*glances at husband*. <— Poor him. *snort* :P

Yep. So I’ll give him a hint right here. I’m hoping to eat lots of cake, drink sugary dessert-drinks (Amy… any recommendations?), and!! Indulge in books all day with no husband-eye-rolling as I tell him about the stories. I want him to be completely entertained by my *snorts* and occasional tears, and he must be (or at least act as if) he is loving the scenes I tell him about. Yes. He must humor me. Alllll weekend. LOL!!! I’m feeling bratty.

In fact, I’ve just pulled off of my MAIN TBR list that I’m already wanting to tell him all about. Yep! I’ve been a good girl sticking with it (on and off as I sample some new recommendations that come my way), but so far, it’s been good to me!

Which one is it? You guys are gonna be shocked that I haven’t read it yet. I’m almost ashamed to admit it, considering:

1.) How much I LOVE this author and pretty much can’t go wrong with any of her books. Yes… of course some are better than others (I do have my favorites in her HUGE repertoire), but really, she just rocks my world.

2.) I absolutely LOVE every book in this series so far, and one of my #1 heroes in the book-world comes right out of this series. How I managed to skip over this book? I have no clue.

3.) He’s a total no-nonsense alpha male (but of course!!!) AND AND!!! He’s a cop (<—- *swooooon* YAY ME!!), and she’s a shy woman that has been pining over him for years. YEARS I tell you!!!!! And he’s kind of mean to her. A lot. <— YAY ME again!! This book (so far) is just perfect for me.

Can you guess which one it is? ;)

Maryse: Just started “Breathe (Colorado Mountain Book 4)” by Kristen Ashley and *gasp!* Chase is almost worse than Tate in his jerkish ways!!! The stuff he tells her. Gah! So meeeeeean. She’s got her work cut out for her. Yay me!!! :D

Sarah: I’m making my way through CM also! Been on a KA kick (first time reader). In the past 2 weeks, I’ve read all four Dream Man, 3 Unfinished Heroes, 8 Rock Chicks, 2 Chaos, finished The Gamble yesterday and am now on Sweet Dreams And I agree with you about Tate. Gonna have to work to turn me on him

Paula: It’s sooooo good! I love Faye.

Sarah Theisen Oh, I’m so jealous that you’re back in KA land! I wanna be there too!!!

Erin: OMG!!! Enjoy! This is a good one.

Sarah: Oh Sarah you will end up loving Tate!! He redeems himself. And Maryse, You know that you’ll end up loving Chase. KA knows what she’s doing!

Tiffany: Oh love this one too!! When it comes to KA you can’t go wrong right?!!

Melissa: You are going to LOVE it!! I have read it three times.

Donna: This is a great one! You will love it! Chace is…something else!

Michaela: I just finished Lady Luck today. O M Gee!!!! Love me some Colorado Mountain Men!! Can’t wait to start Breathe!

Melanie: I know but omg Chase he will make you love him! But hey I love all KA’s alphas!

Tracie: OMG have you not read this one?! This was my first KA book ever and I FELL IN LOVE!!! Faye is the best fraking heroine ever!! I cried a few times in this one. Oh Maryse I’m so excited for you!

Maryse: I know Tracie. I am chagrined. *shakes head* I can’t even believe it, but I feel like I fell into quite the hidden-treasure that has been out in the open all this time. So I’m happy I get to indulge in some old-school KA magic.

Tracie: No doubt this is one of her best! Way to Kick off your weekend!!

But for those of you that have already read Kristen Ashley’s Colorado Mountain series, or are looking for something else (or a bunch of “something elses”) to read, here is today’s Friday bargain finds and reader recommendations!

P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere). :)

P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything! :D )

Todays latest reader recommendations and bargain ebook finds:

 • Changing Course (Wrecked and Ruined Book 1) by Aly Martinez <—  I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK!!!!!! Just take a look at my review. :D It’s a one-clicker for sure! These also reminded me a bit of Kristen Ashley books. The *feel* but certainly have their own voice. Just plain awesome! And AND!!!!
 • Stolen Course (Wrecked and Ruined Book 2) by Aly Martinez <— book #2 is on sale today TOO!!!! I loved it also (there is a scene in it that gave me goosebumps). GAH!! —> my review. AND AND!!! The reason both books in this series are on sale today is ’cause Aly just announced who the 3rd book will be about. BRACE YOURSELVES!! —>
 • Among The Echoes by Aly Martinez <— Oh! And fellow reader Lauren just told us: “Among the Echoes by Aly Martinez, which is a new release, will introduce you to the hero of book 3 of her Wrecked & Ruined series….LEO….and there is a chapter of book 3 @ the end. Love me some Leo!!!!” YAY for the inside “Aly Martinez” scoop!!! :D
 • Neurotica by Eliza Gordon <— Recently released! From the blurb she sounds like a “hermit”. Doesn’t want to have anything to do with men… hides behind her keyboard. I’m not sure where it goes from there…
 • Substitute Boyfriend by Jade C. Jamison <— JUST RELEASED! Short novella (just a bout 100 pages) and sounds fun. She’s a writer with a “friends with benefits” that she really likes. “She’d like for Ridley to commit to be her permanent and real boyfriend, and she thinks that’s where they’re headed until she finds him getting way too cozy with another woman in a bar. At that point, she enlists the help of her friend, fellow college instructor Roman Decker, who offers to temporarily take Ridley’s place while she sorts through her emotions. She grows confused when she realizes she’s also attracted to Roman…
 • UNMASKED: Volume 3 by Cassia Leo <— JUST RELEASED!!! And it’s the conclusion to the trilogy (listed right below) so I can’t read the blurb… ;)
 • UNMASKED: Volume 1 by Cassia Leo <— Here’s book #1. OOOOOH YES!! I remember this blurb. I think she’s disfigured (childhood issues)… and then: “I moved out and now I hide. I have a night job that pays the bills. Every night, I put on my mask and walk to work. Then one night, I hear and see something that will change my purpose in life… forever: a murder that will bring him to me. He says he wants to protect me. And, through a series of events I can’t fully make sense of, I find myself believing him. But our nightly visits are always cloaked in darkness. I don’t know his face and he will never know mine. I was born into this world unwanted. I will leave this world unmasked.” Oh yah this sounds right up my alley and even better, the series is now complete!!! YAY US!!!! :D
 • UNMASKED: Volume 2 by Cassia Leo <— Here’s book #2 LOTS of great reviews, too!!
 • Beg Me To Slay (Entangled Covet) by Lisa Kessler <— it’s a paranormal and looks pretty good! “The relationship is supposed to be strictly business, but fighting demons together stirs up emotions they never expected. Turns out demon slaying is a breeze compared to facing their scarred pasts and even worse – hearts.
 • Worth the Fight (MMA Fighter Series Book 1) by Vi Keeland <— MMA FIGHTER ALERT!! (here’s my book review).
 • Somebody’s Angel (Rescue Me Saga #4) by Kallypso Masters <— BDSM MASTER ALERT!! ;)When Marc d’Alessio first rescued the curvaceous and spirited Italian Angelina Giardano at the Masters at Arms Club, he never expected her to turn his safe, controlled life upside down and pull at his long-broken heartstrings. Months later, the intense fire of their attraction still rages, but something holds him back from committing to her completely…
 • Captured: Warriors of Hir, Book 1 by Willow Danes <— Recently released!! ALIEN claiming his human mate alert!! ;) She runs out of her North Carolina cabin to investigate the crash… and finds HIM. “After years spent searching for a compatible mate to bond with, an enemy attack lands him on a backward, primitive planet and right to the very female he has been seeking. And a Hir warrior’s first task in claiming a mate is to capture her . . .” Not our usual read, but sure. Why not. ;) Sounds like it could be fun!
 • Mister Black: A Billionaire SEAL Story, Part 1 (In the Shadows) by P.T. Michelle <— Oh here’s a “new-to-me” one! “We all have someone who crossed our path and fundamentally changed us. That one person who blew through our lives, their presence forever stamped on our psyche. They linger in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in the decisions we make. A soul crusher or a dream maker, depending on the perspective. My person is Mister Black…”
 • Landslide by NJ Cole <— Stephanie found us this one! A senator and the girl he wants… “On the night of his thirty-fifth birthday, Max finds a goddess waiting for him in his hotel room. She is beautiful, sexy, and very willing, yet the fruit she offers is very forbidden. Not only is she barely legal at nineteen, but she also happens to be the daughter of his best friend and political advisor. Mackenzie Wade has had a crush on the senator for years. When an overheard phone call affords her the opportunity she needs to make her fantasies a reality, Kenzie jumps at the chance, offering herself as a birthday gift…
 • Separation Anxiety by Lisa Suzanne <— Aimee found us this one saying: “someone recommended this one back in July…been watching for price reduction and HERE it IS.” Oh it DOES sound good! Great blurb! “We all get one true love in our lives, and it’s up to us to find it. Fate will act and try to push us together, but ultimately it’s up to us to recognize who that one person is when he’s standing in front of us. It turns out that I recognized who my one person was when I was separated from my husband.” So, to help out, her “player” colleague from work tells her she can crash at his place and she begins to suspect that he’s her “true love”. Except… “If only my husband would stop getting in the way of the man with whom I was meant to be.”
 • Side Effects by Lisa Suzanne <— Recently released!! And this one sounds good too. She doesn’t do “serious” because she’s been traumatized by a man in her past (that she loved). So she has her bad boy “friends with benefits” who’s totally her type… She happy with that. “…until she meets Reed Porter, the typical pretty boy with blue eyes, blonde hair, and zero tattoos. He is the exact opposite of everything Quinn likes.
 • Being Sawyer Knight (Souls of the Knight Book 1) by Nicola Haken <— Aimee found us this one! “This was recommended by someone a while back and I have been watching over the past month or so. M/M romance.” A bit from the blurb: “He’s actually gotten pretty good at pretending… at living the lie. Until Jake Reed, his ex-best friend and the only person who’s ever made him ‘feel’, waltzes back into his life as the band’s new head of security. Jake wants Sawyer – always has, always will. Now, he just needs to get Sawyer to admit that he feels the same…
 • Breaking Alexandria by K.A Robinson <— Aimee found us this deal too! “Alexandria’s drug-dealing boyfriend, Joel, isn’t exactly the white knight she’s always dreamed of, but she can’t deny the crazy connection they have. She would do anything for him, including helping him sell drugs in order to fit perfectly into his world…” but then!! She meets a good boy…
 • Unrequited: Unrequited Book #3 The Chosen Series by Alisa Mullen <— Aimee found out this one too. But I think they have to be read in order…
 • Shattered: An Extreme Risk Novel by Tracy Wolff <— Aimee found us this one, too! “I have read several of Tracy Wolff’s books and LOVE everyone of them. This is the second one in the series and can be read as a stand alone. Steamy romance w/ HEAs…my fav. Definitely a writer I would recommend you check out!” Oh yes! A cancer survivor and a snowboarder that is giving up on life, after losing his parents… And then they meet.
 • Crash Into Me (A Shaken Dirty Novel) by Tracy Wolff <— And here’s another by this same author: “Jamison Matthews has lusted after Ryder Montgomery since she was a preteen. But now that Ryder and her brother’s band, Shaken Dirty, has made it huge, she’s just one of many pining for the brooding lead singer. Too bad Ryder still sees her as a little sister…
 • The Rocker Who Wants Me (The Rocker… Series Book 7) by Terri Anne Browning <— RECENTLY RELEASED and this appears to be a HUGELY LOVED rock star series!!! Clare: “I just found this series and fell in love with everyone  im just in the middle of book 6 cant wait for  book 7 Dallas and Axton  i hope it comes out soon.” Yep it’s out now, Clare!!! Teresa: “I love this series.  Each book in this series has been 4.5-5 stars with book #1 being in my top 10.“ Oh wow!!! I need to jump in! Jean warns: “Yes they should be read in order…. I love this series!!!” —-> Okay then! Here is the series reading order. :D
 • Indulge (Red Rebels MC Book 1) by C.D. Breadner <— JUST RELEASED/BIKER BOOK ALERT! From the blurb I got that she’s recently divorced and wondering if she’s played it too safe all her life…
 • A Family Man (The Freaks MC. Book 1) by Sarah osborne <— Aimee found us this biker book, too! (He’s the MC enforcer). ” don’t recall who recommended this book but have been watching over the course of the past few months and notice it’s on sale for the next 6 days.”
 • S-Duality: A Marauders Novella by Lina Andersson <— Speaking of biker books, Marauders fans, look what else just came out!
 • The Keatyn Chronicles: Love Me: Book Four. by Jillian Dodd <— Aimee saying: “Attn Ladies!! All of the Keatyn Chronicle series by Jillian Dodd are on SALE. I know this has been a popular series for several of our folks…grab it while it’s hot!!” Here is the The Keatyn Chronicles Reading Order. :D
 • BEWARE by Shanora Williams<— Stephanie found us this one saying: “Love is Scary. Love is Brutal. Love is Deadly. Careful Who You Fall For. This is a story full of dishonesty. Disloyalty. Broken hearts. Pain. Suffering. Lies. Destruction.  And it just might break you. You’ve been warned… ★ BEWARE by Shanora Williams ★ On SALE for limited time.

Happy Birthday Maryse!! Get a nice bottle wine and great book… birthday ever!!

Shannon W August 15, 2014 at 1:50 PM

That is so funny, because I just started Breathe not long ago as well! I am a HUGE Kristen Ashley fan and somehow never got around to reading this one, either. I’m about 65% in and really enjoying it. I had to put it on hold to read Ugly Love for a day or two, but now I’m back on it!!

Cheryl August 15, 2014 at 1:55 PM

Happy Birthday Maryse!!!!!!!!

Cheryl August 15, 2014 at 1:56 PM

Look’s like now is a good time to one-click Changing Course and Stolen Course. I remember reading the blurb on Separation Anxiety before and liking it so one-clicking that too since .99. The cover of Crash into Me is YUMMY, so maybe one-clicking that too!

Right now have squirreled again from This Man and reading Making Faces from my TBR list; then I PLAN to read the next book in the Fire On Ice series…yeh that’s the plan, not going to squirrel…. *side-eyeing book Dom ;)

Tracy August 15, 2014 at 2:03 PM

Happy Birthday Maryse! Enjoy your birthday weekend.

K August 15, 2014 at 2:08 PM

Pre order- 8/19 the next Lexi Blake book in the Masters series (book 7) View to a Thrill. It’s Simon and Chelsea’s book. Ps. Happy bday!

bev August 15, 2014 at 2:21 PM

I said it on an earlier post but it can not be said too many times. Happy Birthday.
I have three for the bargain list if ok.
Improper English by Katie McAlister. She was my go to for laughs and like that her heroines usually look different than I normally find. The h is American and moves to London. She ends up neighbors with a Scotland Yard detective.
The other two are from Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Oh, how I love SEP.
Kiss an Angel is 3.79. This is one I recommended to one of your lists. I think for jerky heroes who are resistant to the heroine. It’s got a great groves scene and a baby elephant.
Lady be Good is $ 4.74. I can have a horrible memory sometimes with books. But some part of me most remember how much I loved reading this because I’m smiling and hugging myself while typing this. Lady Emma is headmistress of a British girl’s school. She ends up in Texas where she meets Kenny fold super star who has been suspended for his bad behavior.

Jeanie V. August 15, 2014 at 2:44 PM

Happy birthday Maryse!!! Again, I just have to say I LOVED A Family Man!!! Joe “Tiny” Taylor is a big bad enforcer for his MC & this book explores the different relationships he has with his club, mom, ex-wife, ex-wife’s daughter & even his ex’s sister. Sooo good! Shockingly emotional. :)

Tiffany C. August 15, 2014 at 2:58 PM

Happy Happy Birthday Maryse!! Hope you have an awesome weekend!!

Nicole August 15, 2014 at 3:26 PM

Kim Peckitt August 15, 2014 at 3:27 PM

Happy Birthday Beauty! Wishing you the best year ever filled with unlimited BBF’s!!!

MichelleS August 15, 2014 at 3:47 PM

Happy Happy Birthday Maryse!!! Hope you get lots of Nutella and Salami (or maybe just some chocolate cake and your sweet hubby). Or better yet, a basketful of amazon gift cards! How fun that you picked KA as your birthday read. You introduced me (and probably most of your followers) to Ms. Kristen Ashley, so it is very fitting that you spend the weekend in Colorado. Hope it’s a FIVE STAR birthday. :-)

Diane M August 15, 2014 at 3:48 PM

Happy birthday Maryse!!!! My bday is Monday and I’m starting today too LOL… Enjoy!!

Virginia August 15, 2014 at 4:13 PM

Happy Birthday, Maryse!

BREATHE remains my very favorite KA book. I’ve read it FOUR times. I adore Faye so much. Chace is a full blown cad in the beginning, but Faye works her adorable magic on him. I think I’ve favored him above all of KA’s other alphas because of his touch of refinement and gentlemanlike ways (probably from his mother). AND, this is a BIG ONE, his way of speaking and broader vocabulary. PLUS because of Faye’s sci-fi addiction I watched the Firefly series. Glad YOU loved it too!

Teresa H. August 15, 2014 at 4:14 PM

Jen C August 15, 2014 at 5:10 PM

Hope you are having a fantastic birthday! And may all your birthday wishes come true!

Linda August 15, 2014 at 7:38 PM

Happy birthday Maryse!! Just finished reading Changing Course yesterday. Outstanding and a different story line that really kept me engaged. Just started Stolen Course and loving it too! Loving these alpha males. Definite KA feel to them. Really recommend reading in order. I don’t consider them as standalones at all.

Tessa August 15, 2014 at 8:53 PM

Happy Birthday Maryse!! Anything with whip cream vodka is good. :-)

I have to also recommend Beware. Seriously good, and I still read the blurb and squeel.

Cheryl August 15, 2014 at 9:43 PM

Finishing reading Making Faces and listening to Come to me Quietly/Come to me Softly while running. Dear God, I NEED to next read a book where the H is not crying about how he is not worthy of love. Don’t know if I need a romantic comedy or just an entirely different story line. Maybe I just need one or three of Amy’s recommended drinks!!! ;)

Maryse August 15, 2014 at 9:53 PM

Wheeee!! Thank you for the awesome birthday wishes! I just got back from my birthday supper, and I had cake AND margaritas. Good time indeed!

And! My husband also stopped with me at Sephora and bought me makeup. Lots and lots of new colors for me to play with (and he chose ‘em!)

Now back to my KA book, and my cozy night.

Love you guys! :D

Erin M August 15, 2014 at 9:53 PM

Happy Birthday Maryse!!! I didn’t read Breathe tell later too….then thought why in the world did I wait. I love Chase….Hell I love all KA’s alfa-males. Great book for a b-day weekend.

Maryse August 15, 2014 at 9:54 PM

Christine August 16, 2014 at 9:28 AM

Happy Birthday! Treat yourself all weekend!!!
Sharing: Tumbleweeds – good – great even! At 10% in I was “Wow. Ok.” At 20% I was “Oh, this is good.” Then I just sucked the book up – barely breathing. I Loved it!!

Lia August 16, 2014 at 9:32 AM

Happy Birthday Marise!!!

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 10:08 AM

I jumped on Captured because I’m a sci fi fan. So far it’s more of a romance than a sci fi and the beginning was a little unbelievable (ha! sci fi right?). But so far I like it and have a feeling it’s going to get even better. Although I’m not sure it’s long enough to fully develop the story. Will let you know when I finish. :-)

Maryse August 16, 2014 at 11:42 AM

Keep us up to date. I seem to enjoy books where “others” decide you’re their mate and that’s all there is to it. LOL!

Amy August 16, 2014 at 12:09 PM

Ooooooh, what did you get from Sephora, Maryse???? And speaking of cake and margaritas…my friend made margarita cupcakes one time with lime and tequila, and they were insane!

Fabi, are you reading Captured by Erica Stevens or a different Captured?

Jean August 16, 2014 at 12:28 PM

Maryse! Hope you are enjoying your birthday weekend! I read my husband your paragraph about what you expected for your birthday weekend from your hubby and he told me not to get any ideas!!!!! That’s not right! Good to know I’m not the only one who gets the eyerolls from their spouse!

I haven’t read KA’s Breathe yet…..only read the first 2 books of that series but I could definitely use a KA fix! Right now I am reading Tall, Tatted and Tempting and loving it!

bev August 16, 2014 at 12:30 PM

That sounded like a great start to a birthday weekend. But then can you ever go wrong with birthday cake and margaritas?
I think it is really sweet that your guy buys you books and makeup.

MichelleS August 16, 2014 at 12:56 PM

Jean – that reminds me, I have to get back to Logan and The Reed Brothers series. He was so yummy! Too many follow up books are in my TBR right now: Reed Brothers #2, Carnage #2, Spiral of Bliss #2, Lux #2 (I know… I’m way behind), Beyond #4 and #5. The problem is, something new comes out almost daily. I need a slow week or two to get caught up. I’m reading Dark Skye (IAD #14) right now. Needed a fix of PNR. What to tackle next? or to heck with that list and try that new one Losing Me Finding You, which sounds really promising. Anyone try that one yet?

MichelleS August 16, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Maryse – you like where others decide you’re to be “mates”? did you ever read The Holy Trinity series by M. Sheehan? It’s way way way out there in terms of plot, but she has a way of writing that just sucks you in. They are fated “mates”… but…. there’s a beyond-fantastic love triangle that may or may not blow that all to hel#. I don’t even know what genre to put that series in, it’s just a thing unto itself. Read that series back-to-back. You know… just throwing it out there so you can join us in our TBR hel#.

And another “fated mates” book I loved was Winter’s Dawn, the Age of Alphas… but… there is a mystery there. It is no longer on amazon. It is by Kele Moon. Anyone know what happened? It was such a good book. A promising first in a series. I loved it, and “poof” it’s gone.

Maryse August 16, 2014 at 1:47 PM

Amy! I got Buxom (Bare Minerals) glosses in Dolly & Trixie. Trixie was my FAVORITE and mine is almost out, so I now have a replacement but the color is WAY different than what it used to be. It USED to be more of a baby pink (slightly pulling towards bluish), and now it’s very coral pink. Weird. Pretty though, but I did see another one that was more like my old Trixie, so I’m going to pick it up. I can’t be without it.

Also a pink liquid eyeliner (my husbands choice) from the Sephora line. LOL. Pink eyeliner. Okayyyyy…. ;) I’ll definitely use it somehow. I used to always think of lining eyes in a dark color but the blues and greens are lightish and look so cool, so I’m not opposed to pink. ;) And I have so many in every color now, and they have awesome staying-power and go on so well. Gorgeous!

Okay and then he got me a metallic-green mascara and a purple sparkley one (also Sephora brand I believe). They also has a tip that makes an eyeliner, too. Pretty neat. I guess that goes over the black mascara to *oomph* it up? Yes… can you tell he really likes colors? Hrmmm what else?

OH!! He bought me the Bare Minerals “Last Call” color duo of eyeshadows. One is super dark blue (almost smokey black) and one is a bright crazy blue. Gotta learn how to apply that so it looks good and not too crazy. But I managed with the purple quad (oh btw which is what I wore all day yesterday – I wanted to be purpley), so I think I can do it with this, too.

Cake and supper and margaritas, and makeup! Great GREAT night.

Maryse August 16, 2014 at 1:49 PM

Michelle YES!! I keep hearing that her Trinity series is so good. I gotta give it a go!

Maryse August 16, 2014 at 1:49 PM

I’ll ask Kele about her series. I love that author and I do get to talk to her every once in awhile so I’ll see what she says…

Kennedy August 16, 2014 at 1:59 PM

Happy Birthday!

bev August 16, 2014 at 2:21 PM

Your husband’s choices made me smile. I’m horrible with make up and so do not really wear it beyond pink lips occasionally. But I’ve seen photos of mascara in colors I would never think of and they look great. A lot of them seem to make the eye color stand out so you think oh her eyes are really blue, and not her lashes are burgundy.

Maryse August 16, 2014 at 2:23 PM

Oooooh BEV!!! Burgundy. Wow I should totally get that lash color. ‘Cause what’s cool about these crazy colors, is that in regular lighting, they just look dark. Almost black (and very normal. Or “neutral). But it’s when we get in sunlight that the flashing begins, and it’s SO cool!!! :D

bev August 16, 2014 at 2:26 PM

oh mate books. So not really fated but books when they decide that that’s their mate that’s it are Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series and her Archangel series. I like both of these a lot. She is coming ou with a rockstar book in a week or two I think. Am really curious about that one.

Julie August 16, 2014 at 3:15 PM

It sounds like you had a great birthday! I finished Room For a a Little Bit More this morning. It was sweet. Thinking of starting Scoring Wilder next.

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 4:07 PM

Amy, I’m reading Captured: Warriors of Hir, Book 1 by Willow Danes. I’m at about 70% and I like it. It’s not a long book though and I tend to do better with novels over 300 pages (600+ is my love). With the shorter ones I don’t feel like I have time to know the characters or their lives well enough. Like the one I read yesterday, ReDesigned. Great book, great story but I would barely give it a 4 if I was being generous because of the length.

Amy August 16, 2014 at 4:31 PM

Maryse, you are sooooo lucky that you can wear all of those colors on your eyes! Is it bad that I was just in Sephora yesterday and now I want to go back to shop some more today? ;) Check out this tutorial at just past the 5-minute mark…she uses light and dark gray colors, but you could substitute your Last Call duo!

Oh, Bev…between Maryse, Cheryl and me, we have to get you hooked up with some makeup ideas. What are your eye and hair colors? And I absolutely LOVE burgundy on the eyes!

Alright, book talk…I’m finally starting Rockstar today. Yay me!! :D And yes, Maryse, you really should check out Madeline Sheehan’s Holy Trinity series. Book 2 put me through the emotional ringer. *clutching heart*

Amy August 16, 2014 at 4:35 PM

It sounds good, Fabi! If you get the chance, you should try Captured (Captive series) by Erica Stevens…it’s free right now! I’ve read the whole series, and it is definitely a good one!!

Okay, last bit of makeup talk and then I’ll stay on topic with books. ;) Jaclyn Hill has a bunch of makeup tutorials on Youtube (her eye color reminds me of yours, Maryse), and I absolutely love them. That’s how I found out about using the MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter in Radiant Rose and Garnier Skin Renew tinted eye roller together. I already had both but had never tried them together, and I use that combo *daily* now. Oh! Check out her smokey cat eye tutorial with Scotch tape…yes, Scotch tape! :D

MichelleS August 16, 2014 at 4:52 PM

Amy- going out tonight. Hook me up with a kahlua like drink that doesn’t need a blender. This bar serves only mixed drinks… No blended drinks! Can you believe that? Ok… Book talk… Nix makes an appearance in IAD#24, so I’m happy so far… Was that enough book talk?

Amy August 16, 2014 at 5:09 PM

LOL, Michelle! I think that book talk counts. ;) This page has, like, 30 Kahlua drinks to pick from.

And there is always the classic Blow Job shot with Kahlua. :P Oh, come on! You know y’all did those in your 20′s, too! Or maybe it was just me? Any comments from the Peanut Gallery and the whipped cream is gonna fly. No, not *that* kind of cream! Gah, you ladies are perverted!! *snort* I meant the whipped cream from the Blow Job. 8O NO! I meant…er…oh just never mind!!!

MichelleS August 16, 2014 at 5:25 PM

Amy – would you believe that I have NEVER ever ever ordered a sex-themed drink (screaming orgasm and such). I am too embarrassed. I will read smut and discuss smut but won’t order a Blow Job from a 20-something dorky bartender. Pathetic, huh?

Book talk…. um….. bartenders…. okay, I got it….. what’s his name (Tate?) from “Try”…. that was a HOT book. “Take” was even hotter.

Amy August 16, 2014 at 5:29 PM

OMG Michelle, I freaking triple doggy-style DAIR you to order one tonight! (*snicker* See, I threw in some book talk) If you don’t, then you better go to Book Bash next year (I’m going!!! :D ) and I am going to order you a slew of sex-themed drinks and have them sent directly to you in front of everyone!!!!! :P

MichelleS August 16, 2014 at 5:36 PM

Amy – you just had to throw the DAIR in there didn’t ya’? I’m just too chicken to do it. I know it’s completely stuffy and stupid and nobody gives a hoot… I just can’t say the words, “I’d like a screaming orgasm please”. As racy as it gets for me is saying ‘Screwdriver” and I only picture a tool. Not THAT kind of “tool” either! Where is book bash next year?

Book talk related to that one…. oh boy…. best orgasm scene maybe? I like it when they get a little dirty and mention the “clean up towel” because the ones where the girl just pulls up her panties is just…. gross… and I always go there when that happens (dirty minded old hag that I am).

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 5:56 PM

Amy, Captured (Captive series) by Erica Stevens is now downloaded. Thanks! And…omg you are a riot with your posts

Michelle I’ve never ordered one of those drinks either…for the same reason you haven’t. lol

Almost done with Captured: Warriors of Hir. brb with opinion

bev August 16, 2014 at 6:00 PM

Fabi I don’t read any sci fi, though a couple authors I’ve thought of trying.
I just lean more towards fantasy. But not long ago a sci fi that became popular in the romance community is The Last Hour Of Gaan. I have not read it and definitely read the description as it is different and there are trigger warnings for the book. But it did get great reviews and it is long.
On my ereader I have The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook but it is classified as steam punk. It too gets a lot of long and is a longer book.
Ok, these I’ll just label fantasy because I am horrible with genre and support genres. Some titles I liked and the books were long. OUTLANDER, WRITTEN IN RED, and the Fever series.
For straight up fantasy and made of awesome the SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series.
Sorry know different than sci fi but I think( know for one’s I read) that they take there time and let you know the characters.

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 6:03 PM

See the lovely new dunce cap on my head? Yeah – I’ve already read Erica Stevens’ entire series. Read the blurb after downloading it and went – oh wait! I know this story! I love this story! I’ve READ this entire series!

Yeah, thought I’d share one of my finer moments with y’all.

bev August 16, 2014 at 6:07 PM

Ah Amy that is sweet. But I think I’m just a wash and go type. Hair and face. Occasionally think about a little makeup for more polish, I can’t do the feel of full face. If ever decide to I’ll definitely hit you ladies up for advice. It sounds like you know what your doing.
Side note did you ever see the commercial where the kids walk into the kitchen and when the mom turns around with full eye makeup on. The kids just stare mouths open and she’s all what I thought I’d try a Smokey eye. It’s so cute.
Book talk? A bartender, my favorite one, was named Tate in Sweet Dreams too.

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 6:23 PM

Bev, thanks for the suggestions. I’m going to look up some of those I’m not familiar with.

I love many different genres – as long as it’s escape literature. I’ll read self-help or training books too but not nearly as often as escape lit. In order of preference and in fear of the boos from here I am already hearing. Here’s my list.
1. Sic Fi (not fantasy or PNR)
2. Historical Romance (especially if it involves time travel)
3. Classics (yup, I have an entire leather bound library)
4. YA (in the dystopian sub-genre)
5. PNR
6. fantasy
7. NA
8. M/M
9. Erotica
10. Contemporary romance

7-10 are all new to me – thank you Maryse :-)

I know, I’m all over the place. And I didn’t even mention Marvel comics. Hahaha

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 6:27 PM

btw The Last Hour Of Gaan didn’t return any search results in Amazon

Amy August 16, 2014 at 6:56 PM

Hehe Michelle and Fabi, I must really look like a dirty old lady when I order those…I mean, I’m not *old* (still in my 30′s thankyouverymuch!) but I’m no spring chicken either. ;) Michelle, you have to at least order a Blue Balls Cocktail. Or a Bend Over Shirley!!! Or a Mountain Dew Me!! No, no, no…get a Red-Headed Slut!! You know, there’s a reason why they are called “cock”-tails, huh? Huh? *nudges Michelle with elbow*

*snicker* Fabi, I’ve done the same thing before with forgetting I have read something and then trying to re-buy it. ;)

Amy August 16, 2014 at 7:07 PM

*giggle* Sorry, Bev…I get a little carried away when it comes to books, makeup, nail polish and drinks. And I know Maryse and Cheryl are right there with me!

Book talk – Michelle, I think the same thing about clean up! Have you read the Rosemary Beach books by Abbi Glines? Rush does that with the clean-up towel and ohhhhhhh, it is so sweet! How about when they eat something with a particularly strong flavor and then go at it right after? When I was trying to read Lovely Vicious the other day, there was one part where she ate a tuna fish sandwich then kissed the guy with tongue right after. Ew and ew. I’m not very nice, right? ;)

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 7:08 PM

:-0. Amy are all of those drink names? If so, I may start worrying about the state of our society. Ha!

bev August 16, 2014 at 7:12 PM

Sorry my bad spelling. Last hour of Gann. 1 a 2 n. Have you ever read Ursula le Guin. She pops up with Sci .fiand people seem to like her. I have thought of trying her.

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 7:17 PM

Nope never heard of her. sci fi or fantasy?

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 7:23 PM

While looking for Last Hour of Gann I ran across Breeder by Cara Bristol. Title caught my eye so I read the description…doesn’t it sound intriguing?
To secure his legacy, Commander Dak, a ruling Alpha of planet Parseon, purchases Omra, a breeder slave. He intends to impregnate her, produce a son, and hand her off to his anointed beta partner. As Dak and Omra discover a sexual bliss banned by his world’s law, he begins to question the traditions and ways of his people, causing him to jeopardize his command and endanger the life of the woman he has come to love.
Fabi August 16, 2014 at 7:29 PM

The Last Hour of Gann is by R. Lee Smith. I have Heat by that I put Gann on my wish list. Thanks Bev.

Amy August 16, 2014 at 7:34 PM

They are, Fabi! How about Angel’s Tit, Sex on My Face, Leg Spreader, All Night Long, Sloe Comfortable Screw, Climax Cocktail, and of course (book talk!) Wallbanger. Whew, is it getting hot in here or what? *fanning myself with shirt*

Livia August 16, 2014 at 7:48 PM

Happy Birthday Weekend! I like your celebratory plans, perfect! =)

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 7:49 PM

Amy and you’re saying women go up to a bartender and ask for these things? If so, I bet the bar tending profession is very popular among young single men.

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 7:56 PM

I just finished Captured by Willow Danes. It seems like I have a bit in common with the author. She lives in the southern US and loves romance especially historical, sci fi and, paranormal. I liked the book. I can’t say I was blown away but very good story. Not too angsty but with a few surprise twists and turns. I think I’d probably give it 3.5 stars and follow the series as it develops. The books appear to be stand alone within the series not cliffhangers to be continued.

Amy August 16, 2014 at 8:06 PM

Yep, Fabi, I’ve heard them ordered, and I have even ordered a few of them myself! :D I’ve been dared to order dirty drinks so many times, and I will *not* turn down a dare! The best is when *I* dare one of my husband’s friends to order a girly sex drink…I almost peed my pants watching his spec ops friend ask the female bartender for a Leg Spreader and Sloe Comfortable Screw, LOL!!!!!!

bev August 16, 2014 at 8:07 PM

Amy absolutely nothing to apologize for I love reading your guys comments.
I wouldn’t be able to order those either. I have to use the self checkout at the library if I’m grabbing a book with a bodice ripper cover.
There is a really cute blog called a beautiful mess. it is two sisters and a mix of fashion, diy, recipes, etc. Any way one of the sisters is always creating new drink recipes. I think the new one is a take on the mimosa. Ok now remember she did a post on alcohol and na drinks & one looked so good for summer. I’ll have to go look it up.
Was recently 5 chapters into a book when I realized I’d already read it.

Fabi August 16, 2014 at 8:20 PM

“Was recently 5 chapters into a book when I realized I’d already read it”

Ha! Bev, need to borrow my dunce cap? Kidding! I’ve read so many books that the authors and titles easily escape me. It’s only when I’m into the story that I recognize it. For some reason, I don’t ever seem to forget a story. Which is why I only reread truly great ones.

Debbie August 16, 2014 at 10:41 PM

Happy birthday. I also wanted to let you know that right now Kismet by A.EWoodward is on sale at Amazon for .99 cents!!! I suggest everyone go and one-click on this great deal. It will be the best .99 cents ever spent!!!! It is that great !!!!

bev August 16, 2014 at 10:58 PM

I felt like it with that one. It was a book in a mystery series. A few years ago I had stopped reading it and wanted to pick It back up. I wad way off on what book I thought I had stopped on.

Anna August 17, 2014 at 5:19 PM

I just read Among the Echoes and loved it! Lots trauma and fear in the beginning, and then a totally sexy boxer comes along and starts to make things better. Plus we get a little hint about where things are going in the Wrecked and Ruined series, which I was very excited about. Good stuff!

Cheryl August 17, 2014 at 8:41 PM

Amy I want to go out to a bar just to order one of those drinks. Have to look them up first to figure out which one I would actually drink once I ordered it!!

Maryse- what a fun way to spend your birthday, picking out makeup. Makes me wonder what colors my husband would pick out for me. I’m curious to try the colored mascara- like the sound of it. I LOVE the purple quad too. The youtube video you posted really helped me figure how to apply the colors.

Book talk- I finished Making Faces- was good but now need to read a book where the H and/or h doesn’t feel that are undeserving of love. I’m re-reading Sweet Home/Sweet Rome because I saw book 3 will be coming out in that series on the 26th. LOVE Rome- sweet alpha-male!!

Georgia August 18, 2014 at 12:34 PM

Happy Happy Belated Birthday. Hope you enjoyed your Birthday weekend and you enjoyed BREATHE. The entire series is awesome .. I can’t wait for DEKES story.
