Nyx in the House of Night: Mythology, Folklore and Religion in the PC and Kristin Cast Vampyre Series
Edited by P.C. Cast? Yup. This isn’t another actual book in the series, but a companion of sorts. This one was sent to me by the publisher, (actually, TWO, one for me, and one for a lucky commenter), and I quickly realized it is a compilation of “works” (essays) by other authors, and professors. Analyzations and comparisons of past related folklore and mythology. Greek, vampyre, witches, the history of some Oklahoma landmarks that inspired the places in the story, Cherokee customs and beliefs, even… the history of cats (poor things, worshipped as gods and then despised as demons, and then… well we cuddle ’em now 😉 )
My Book Reviews
Book Review – Falling Star by Olivia Brynn
Falling Star (Earth Scents)
I did it again. I read a recently released vampire book that didn’t really do “it” for me. I needed my intensity fix so I scrounged around in my iPad, until I found another one of my guilty pleasures. SEXY HOT BAD BOY ROCK STARS. These books are very hard to find, but all that I’ve found, have been plenty satisfying. This one included. I didn’t intend to review it (it was just a little short “fun time” for me) but here I am still thinking about it, and I needed to let you know.

Mockingjay (The Final Book of The Hunger Games)
To give you an idea of how I was feeling going into this book, here is a quick snippet from my Facebook page:
“OMG my jaw hurts so bad from constantly clenching my teeth while reading those last two books. And I still have a 3rd to go. I think I need to add aspirin to my reading table along with that box of crying kleenex…”
I know… it took me awhile to write this one, huh? Considering I finished it last Monday. This was another one of those “I need time to get over it” kind of series. Books that make you feel that way are always good but after the whirlwind Memorial Day weekend I spent with the Hunger Games crew, I was *spent*.
Book Review – Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)
Oh. My. Goodness. This book was something else. Whoa…. Wow! I feel like I’ve literally been dragged through… Wait. Haven’t I said this before? Yes. Yes I have. And I’m right back where I started, but so much further ahead.
The series, so far, in a word? Relentless. Terrifying. Agonizing. Both heartening and disheartening. Okay, it’s impossible to keep it to one word, but you get the picture. Your reading experience will fluctuate with feelings of anger at the corruption and lessons in futility. From hopelessness and despair, to moments of elation and encouragement. Sadness from loss, to beauty in the stolen moments of tenderness and bonding. And even an occasional chuckle here and there to lighten the mood. But whatever is happening, I can assure you… you will be feeling every moment. Oh! Here’s a word that just popped into my head that describes this series for me, so far. Awakening.
Book Review – The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games
Oh. My. Goodness. This book was something else. Whoa…. Wow! I feel like I’ve literally been dragged through a vast array of emotionally charged and mostly dangerous moments. Now, I am sitting here stunned, somewhat happy, but not relieved. Happy that I’ve been recommended such an arresting, and completely absorbing series. But relief? None. My heart is still pumping from what just happened, and the apprehension (and anxiousness) of a few more things to come. You see, as warned by my reader friends, at the end of book one, you realize it’s only just begun.
