Wow… I have NO clue what I’m picking next. And it’s gotta be a good one ’cause I wanna record my weekly reaction video. π Tee hee! I’m always so embarrassed, but it’s fun, ’cause it’s exactly how I am. I did end up reading a latest release from this week’s list (from one of my favorite authors) and while it had her signature super-unique, detailed steam that never fails to blow my mind… I was left a little indifferent towards the story as a whole. *sigh*. I’ll review it today.
But in the meantime, I need something to excite and titillate me.Β Help! HELP!!!Β LOL!!
Might be from this list below. I know a bunch in our crew will buddy-reading one that’s featured down there, VanguardΒ (Bronze Horseman feel, so I’ve been told!!). Plus there’s a few HIGHLY anticipated brand new releases from our fav authors that were released over the last couple of days, like that one up there to the left (Targeted), and the gritty biker sequel to “Nine Minutes” (below – Out of Time). Or, maybe that psych-thriller mystery looking one, RelinquishedΒ (mysterious brothers that help a girl sort of living on the street). Or maybe the twin brothers in love with the one girl (and some marriage arrangement?!). Or the *oomphy* one when she realizes she just let it all out – and I mean ALL OUT – to her new boss’s son (Truth & Temptation, orΒ maybe the hot guy in the man-auction that asks his girl best friend to bid on him so he doesn’t have to “date” anyone (but thing is… she likes him!! YIKES! Bidding on Brooks). Or maybe the blind, angry hero (RUSH). Or OR!!!! Some BoysΒ (the bullied girl that is becoming close to… the bad-guy’s best friend)!
*gasp* What do I choose??!
OR!! My next might be from my latest TBR list. Or… maybe something from your comments? Let me know… I’m all ears.
P.S. Let me know if Iβm missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

Oh fun list again. Lots added to my wish list. I have pre-ordered HIM which I think is going to be wonderful and also on my preordered list for next week is Crossroads by Riley Hart which comes out on the 28th as well. M/M but sound so super good. Next week is going to be a great reading week I can feel it!!! π
Maryse, you could BR Vanguard with us! I’m at 20% and although a little bit of a slow start, I am now unable to put it down! This book is making me anxious! (Thankfully the boss is out today…..heehee)!
Or looking back at your TBR list, I’d pick The Vixen and the Vet! I think you’d love it! Was sorry to hear Never Loved didn’t meet your expectations……
I was so bummed too, Jean. I’ll try and explain it in my review. She’s such a great writer… it was just a little “much” over all in terms of the thought process and interactions. It almost felt like a… a one character show.
You MUST read Priest by Sierra Simone. Talk about forbidden love – no teacher student, no stepsiblings, no best friends younger sister etc. This is a priest and a new girl in town coming to the church for confession. But it is so good, so emotional and you really feel their struggles. You guys need to read it.
I also loved Priest. But another book I read that I COULD NOT PUT DOWN was Asking For It by Lilah Pace.
Oh. My. Gerd.
Taboo, but the reasons behind the heroine’s hangups seem so realistic and make me feel less squeamish about LOVING the book so much. So, so, SO hot. So hot.
I highly recommend it!
I read that one Allison!!! SO GOOD!
Thank you Pia! Yes, I love forbidden so that one is on my TBR list. π
I have 3 I have to buy on the 28th so I may hold off and do my 1-clicking then. π
Oh which 3 Fabi?
Well…impatient me. I pre-ordered Crossroads. Put Bound to Darkness on my wishlist. BUT…$13.99 for The Bourbon King?!!! OMG Is it just me, or that a bit high for a Kindle book?
Well you know my three peanuts, lol.
I can’t think of any thrills & chills type off the top of my head. I have two I’m hesitant to start, Birdbox(horror) & Code name Verity(tear your heart out).
Fabi, on the 28th Him will be a one click for me.
Golden Dynasty, or Vanguard with the group…decisions, decisions…
Ouch, Fabi. It does. Is it coming out in hard back?
I posted this before, but this book has totally caught my attention. But its 10 for new to me author. I’ll have to think on it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QPIM66M/ref=tmm_kin_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=&sr=
Great list Maryse! Some Boys and All About You sound like great reads!
Grey I am almost done with Golden Dynasty and loving it! Its an amazing book! Lahn and Circe are one of my fave couples ever!
Hmmmmm…oh! I know! *throws Therapy peanut at Maryse* That book could invoke some interesting reactions. π
I’m counting on the comments saying that Vanguard will pick up after a bit of a slow start. I think the problem is ME though…I’m so hooked on seeking the adrenaline rush from high-intensity books that I forget to just slow down and let a story unfold, ya know?
Grey, I can’t vouch for Vanguard yet but I CAN vouch for Golden Dynasty. I’d love some book mind bleach so I could read that one again for the first time! π
I went ahead and pre-ordered Him also. Now…if I could only find time to read…
Amy, Vanguard was a little slow for me in the beginning too and at first I was like”what am I reading?” BUT, now I am totally invested in the story!
Just finished Golden Dynasty and I loved it! An amazing book! Lahn and Circe are perfect for each other. A 5 star book for sure! Now I want to read something similar so all suggestions are welcome π
I give up on peanuts. *sighs* This close to reading FCH, and never happened.
So, for now, I’ll mention on 8/4 (Two weeks, woot!) Ilona Andrews’ Magic Shifts is released. On 7/28 is Every Last Breath. Had that on pre-order before the card debacle. Both I want to read so much. And! 8/11 is going to be Fourth Debt by Pepper Winters. *squees* It gets to mess with my head more.
I’m onto Court of Thorns and Roses. *crosses fingers* Someone said it’s even better than the Glass Throne series, but we’ll see. Both series contain Fae. π MichelleS? Did you mention and recommend it?
I recommended Court of Throne and Roses a few months ago. I enjoyed Throne of Glass, and it became one of the most popular books in the library.
Thank you for the recommendation, Debbie! You must have been it. The throne glass was good, read all three so far, and this one seems just as good so far as well!
Yes, you may also want to read Broken Aro by ? Or Bound by Katie Sparkes. π
I am going to continue with the Fantasyland series by KA. Reading Wildest Dreams next π
I just finished Out of Time and well, was rather let down. It was too long for what it was; a bit convoluted or verbose. I need something now to cleanse the palate from that book.
Oh no Jen F.! I loved Nine Minutes so much and was so excited for this one!
Maryse you’ll Love Rush. PLEASE give it a shot. You’ll be hooked. I know it! It really is just brilliant. You FEEL and LIVE every moment with them. He’s the epitome of a jerk to her at the beginning… I was so mad at him! The things he says and does… Gah!!! And the girl in it is the perfect heroine. She wasn’t over the top perfect, but she wasn’t annoying. She was real, he was real. He was an amazing extreme sports athlete… To have that taken away and the way we get to see his pov through his blind eyes? Wonderful. She wrote it to a T.
Anyone!! You won’t regret reading it.
(I swear I do not know the author, promise) π
‘kay Jillian. I’m into reading a bitter hero. π Imma try it!!! π
You guys are really making me want to read Golden dynasty!! I don’t usually read sci-fi but if there’s a strong love story…
Do it. Do it. Do it. I’ve got my pompoms out, *shh, don’t judge* and am counting the minutes until I start it! (Golden Dynasty, that is)
FCH is on my short list… Vanguard too.
Anne, I was, too. I will probably read the third one next year. I just thought that it could’ve been wrapped up in this book.
Diane M read it! Its first and foremost a love story π Its got some paranormal elements but the romance is front and center.
Grey can’t wait to know what you think of GD. Lahn is so sexy!!
Jen F. yeah I know what you mean. I was shocked to learn there was going to be a third book.
OK! I’m putting off Attachments and starting Golden dynasty right now!
That sounds really good Jillian!
I’m telling you ladies if you want a very well written & unique hero pov you have got to try Flowers from the Storm!!! Its dual so heroine pov too. So very very very well done. And very unique.
I’m super excited for you, Maryse!
And Jean give it a go!!! π
I have to share this. One because love the song & two we had talked of hair cuts before. Love Anne Hathaways hair in this video.

Paper Towns by John Green is only 99cents !! Might have to read it now and then see the movie …
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001ANSS5K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=S3S1H3NRL4JD&coliid=I142YQUHLMVOWP
Tessa, I’m counting down the days until Magic Shifts! I read Court of Thorns and Roses and thought it was very good. There was some ‘stuff’ haha that I didn’t love that kept it from being a 5 star read like I kinda expected it to be with all the hype but it was still 4 stars for me. I will for sure continue with the series.
Highly recommend the good girl if anyone is seeking a total suspense and kidnapping with a twist, oh and if you want to hear the sexiest narrator ever then order the audible like I did…loved it and can’t stop thinking about it four months later. As for me, I can never make up my mind. I actually just started truth and beard. I’ve never read any of penny’s books but this sounded good. After that vanguard is sounding good.also the vixen and the vet and the hansel and greatly one, I heard they were both great!
Michelle, I’m only on page 83, and it seems I’ve hit a dull spot that could’ve been more thrilling. Does that make sense? I’m hoping it’s the lull before the bad. I know. I’m horrible. I like bad stuff to happen so I can really love the good.
I keep looking at all the books I have stacking up. :-\
I’m telling you all we all need to do a 24 hr type reading marathon.
Agree about the good girl Lisa! Soooo good!
Bev I love Flowers in the Storm! Its like you said so unique and touching! A great read!
I am reading Wildest Dreams and liking it so far. Just got back from having dinner with some friends so I am only at 10% but so far so good.
Ok just read a spoiler for Jezebel. And eww. I swear saw you all mention romance & happy ending on here? Am I remembering that wrong? I would of been so pissed, lol. Not that surprised I think the little I read and her whole , whatever no biggie, response to someone’s DUI said alot about her character.
I have to say I supported someone who made that bad decision, no one hurt, by sitting in on one of the classes. Over a decade later I still can not get a couple of those stories, especially one out of my head. Horrifying doesn’t begin to describe it.
Ok, rant over.
Golden Dynasty s one of my all time favorites! If you are on the fence I will push you off ;p. LOL
I just started Vanguard. So glad to hear that it starts to pick up–I’ll stick with it now.
Bev, Flowers Through the Storm is one of my all-time favorite books ever. Bring on the ugly cry!
I’m also itching to read Some Boys–it sounds so twisty and emotional.
Who is the writer for Good Girl??
Rush is soooo good.
Vanguard is extremely enjoyable read, fans of The Bronze Horseman will appreciate this book. I loved both books for different reasons. Girls give them both a try.
Finished Vanguard last night and absolutely loved it! Such a beautiful love story!
Oh. Em. Gee. *twirl*
2 words…Golden Dynasty.
You all were soooo right. *insert lovedrunk image of me never wanting it to end*
I agree, Vanguard was a slow start, but then it picks up and you become invested in what the h is doing for the H. The different POV’s weren’t confusing, but I did find the writing of the interactions between the H/h a bit formal. I’m at 75% now and I feel like it just was a little bit underwhelming how some events just transpired. It’s like you have this huge build-up and then it’s almost like you read thru what happens and don’t initially process what happened because you’ve been agonizing along with the MC on how this will work out and now you’re waiting for some major fall-out because nothing can be that simple, especially in books!! π Probably won’t get to read anymore toady because going to music festival with my daughter.
See what happens when you go & have shoulder surgery? You miss out on all the fun! So glad you liked Golden Dynasty, Grey & Anne. See? We couldn’t all be wrong!!! I’m just now feeling good enough to read a little. Must finish The Martian. So good Fabi!
How fun Cheryl. Who are you going to see?
I’m stuck in one of those CPM chairs… So I have some time to kill for reading. I mY have underestimated how crappy this shoulder surgery would be!
MichelleS glad to hear you’re through the surgery. Big *gentle* hugs for your recovery.
Oh, MichelleS, that does not sound fun. Take care of yourself.
MichelleS so glad your surgery went well. We’ve missed you!
So yesterday I was browsing Goodreads and found this book called Radiance by Grace Draven. Has anyone heard about or read it? It sound interesting.
I’d LOVE to see a reaction video to “King”…. See if it’s like Amy’s reaction… LOL… So that’s my rec.
Anne: I LOVED Radisnce. It’s a wee bit slow at times, but I adored it’s “Beauty & the beast” story. Fantastic writing.
And don’t forget about My Familiar Stranger. Girl gets thrown to a parallel universe, the guys there are a team of vampire hunters. She gets caught up in their world. One of my favorites, especially after Golden Dynasty. That, or maybe Fae Chronicles.
Thank you MichelleS! Just got Radiance π Oh My Familiar Stranger sounds interesting! Fae Chronicles is by what author?
Tessa, that’s exactly what kept me from gushing over it since some scenes didn’t live up to the build up but of course others were perfect…just not consistent all the way thru.
Since I couldn’t decide, I’m just finishing up with the Blood Destiny series. This book is better Tessa. Did you read the Corrigan POV books?
It’s by Amelia Hutchins. And Ryder is on my list of top five jerks to love! He’s THAT BAD.
On the other hand, Ram is on my list of hottest men… So… You’re good either way!
*hugs MichelleS, being careful with her arm* Just glad you came out okay.
Anne, I’ve got Familiar Stranger, so I figure if MichelleS says it’ll be good, it probably will. I adore Fae Chronicles.
Michelle, nope. I haven’t read his POV. They are probably good, but I just read so many in a row, I needed a break.
Ugh MichelleS, shoulder surgery is no joke, I see a lot of patients after orthopedic surgeries and I think those are the toughest, hang in there!!
I haven’t gotten very far but I’m loving Golden dynasty!!
Well I whipped through that book and I did like the ending Tessa. I might read the POV books but yeah I need a break. No idea still what to read next. I hate when nothing looks good despite having TONS and TONS of books on my TBR. How is that possible?!
I always ask myself the same thing Michelle. It’s why I started reading everyone else’s favorites. I’m guaranteed a great read that way. I was tired of starting a handful of books and losing interest in them before I was finished. Lately, for me, it has to be an old favorite or a new guaranteed favorite. I don’t seem to have the time or patience to sift through a bunch of books to find “the” good one.
So, this is a fun post. I’ve considered one, but just don’t think I’m a tattoo person. I figure if can’t say a firm yes then I shouldn’t.
https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2015/07/romance-readers-literary-tattoos/
Just finished a book. Next is a Brush of Black Wings, novella, after that not sure.
Awww Bev, those are cool. I’ve been dying to get one for a couple of years but I’m so afraid of what it will look like as I get older. I’ve never seen a tatoo on an older person before.
MichelleS and Tessa if you both like the Fae Chronicles then I am getting the first one and see how it goes. Also who doesn’t love a jerk? Lol
Getting My Familiar Stranger too! Woohoo for hot guys!
Bev love those! Fabi I’ve also wanted a tattoo for years but I’m kinda scared of the pain. I am a big wuss lol
Yeah! You’ll love Ryder! Also, you must keep us updated.
Bev, I think I adore Jennifer Estep’s the most. I absolutely love that series. *grins* I want a tattoo but the thing stopping me is a fear of needles. I know of at least three I’d have if it weren’t for the fear. All three would be things I’d not change my mind on. A simple treble clef, the word Fae with wings coming from the F, and an old camera with crimson butterflies flying from it. One day, maybe.
Michelle, totally take a break. That was an insane series. Maybe a contemporary for the next book? Something to clean your palette and is different enough to not compete.
Fabi, that reminds me where are with the favorites books? And how did you like Sea of T.
I can think of three I’d get too, lol. They would have meaning but I just……….*sigh* just don’t know.
For 2 of them I’ve thought of maybe investing in a bracelet, having it engraved . *shrug* we will see.
Ladies!!! *pulls everyone in for a group hug* I’ve been busy but I’ve missed y’all!!
I’ve had to set aside Vanguard ’cause I don’t think I’m in the right kind of mood to appreciate it. *sigh* No idea what to start now…
Tattoos!!! I love them. I have hubby’s name on my lower back and have thought about getting one or two more but we’ll see…hey, the older I am when I get them then the less time there will be for them to fade, right??
And Tessa, the needle thing isn’t a big deal (and I hate needles)…for ME it felt like a hot razor after he had been at it for a bit. I actually find IV’s more painful. Then again, I’ve had three surgeries so getting a little tat is no big deal pain wise. π
MichelleS, glad to see you back and super glad to hear all went well… no peanut throwing for you until you’re cleared by your MD *wink*
Just home from a long day at my best friend’s dad’s memorial service. I am so ready for the finale of Golden Dynasty. You all were *so, SO right about it!*
Now, Fae Chronicles… Omg… Ryder… oomph, gah, he’s such a bad boy bully… the smut was *scorchingly hot* and the storyline wicked cool too. Definitely recommend to all who haven’t read it before!
Bev, I’m only halfway through SoT. I haven’t read much (at all)/for a week or two. Been helping my brother with a new startup company and I basically drop into sleep at night.
Was it you that was reading Try? After I heard it mentioned again I had this crazy urge to reread it.
So I created a favorites read category on my Kindle app. I’m dropping all the books I want to read from the Saturday lists into that collection.
Jean, is there some big secret turn or twist in SoT? I want to brace myself if it gets cra-za-zy after the halfway mark.
I finished it. I liked it, not a love. But I do plan to read Take within the next few reads. I kind of have the same complaint as I did with the Professional, that the sex took over the story a bit. To be fair that may be were they both are in the relationship. I’m thinking and hoping that the next delves more into the feelings.
Have you read KJ Charles? Have heard good things and have The Magpie Lord. I think it is a mix of historical, mystery, and pnr.
Sea of T has a part that I think really hurts. But the ending, oh the ending.
Some quick freebies:
Completion by Stylo Fantome
Ace’s Redemption by AC Bextor
Unbeautiful by Jessica Sorensen
Bound by Duty by Stormy Smith
Twilight Guardians by Maggie Shayne
The Daughter of the Sea and the Sky by David Litwack
Uncertain Meanings by Robin Renee Ray
Secret of the Last Born by TC Michael
Fabi, that’s smart to just read from the favorite lists now if you want only good books. If I do not have to buy anymore books, I might look at those lists again and pick from there. I should go to your list because that will be a guaranteed good read for me…there aren’t many I haven’t read from yours but a few! Actually Hominids and The Clan of the Cave Bear have been on my tbr for a while…
Bev, those tattoos are cool. I have two small discreet ones myself (have to stay professional for me) but I did not think it hurt much at all. Of course that varies by size and location. I would love to get one on my wrist and up part of my arm (like the bird/book one) that is more visible but have gone back and forth on it. It would have to be not huge and tasteful.
Finished Golden Dynasty, 5 star love… Gah, my feels. Even my feels have feels. Sigh, I totally get it now. I understand why you all want the brain bleach, so you could have another ‘first time’. No, not that kind of *first time,* dirty birdies. Picture me as Julie Andrews, in a novice habit, spinning around in a mountaintop field with my arms out wide. Yep, it was *that* good.
Grey so happy you loved GD!! Its a great book! I loved Circe and Lahn. Oh the feels *sigh*
Hahaha Grey, that was funny.
Michelle, of course I think both of those are great. They are on my favorites list. (hehehe). But, for some reason, I’ve had a favorite of mine on my mind that didn’t make it into the list but was a great twisting, turning and eventually a mind f***. It’s YA (of course), dystopian (of course), with a WTF reveal that leaves your head spinning. It’s called Incarceron. Have you heard of it before?
Bev, yes, Try revolves around the sex. It’s intricate to the story. It’s even the reason for the story. And yes, the second one is more focused on feelings. You might like it better. Me?…I like the sex. *snicker*
Fabi, like Bev said, a little bit of craziness in SoT, but the ending…..is just something I will never forget!
“Even my feels have feels.” <—— LOL!!! I'm loving how we get to relive GD through you guys who are experiencing it for the first time! π
I'm with Jean and Bev…SoT was just phenomenal. And if you're talking about the part where "it" was explained Bev, then I know exactly what you mean. That part did hurt, but the ending was so beautiful and healing after everything!
Yes Fabi, I actually have it and add it to the list of books that I have and want to read but continually pass over…I dunno what’s wrong sometimes but I have the worst time picking something. I went with another series I need to finish up, the third and final book of the Warprize series.
I think I want to read Clan of the Cave Bear next and I actually have the whole set. Picked them up on sale slowly. Do they have a good amount of romance though? I can’t remember what I read about them but I know I will like them hence buying them all.
Michelle, its epic fantasy so it builds slowly, in fact if it happens in the first book at all its at the end. But when it’s there. It’s REALLY there.
I seem to be on a re-reading kick so I may join you for this one. Although, I’ve read the series so many times that I think I have it memorized.
Yey I would love to read it with ya again. It’s been on my tbr so long that I feel excited to just get reading and having made a decision! I will finish Warlord today and probably start it tonight a little but I have some other work to do today so I probably won’t get far. I like a slow build romance too so that sounds perfect right now π
I just started Darker Water. It started a tiny bit rough for me. And I was a little bit like, eh I’ve read this before and not sure. That was only the beginning. I’m just over 20% and I’m sure. I hope it keeps up.
She is the only do relationships and he is the never do relationships. She decides to take that route after one too many bad breaks. But they are really trying to be honest with themselves and each other. And keeping their sense of humor. Great banter & chemistry. Definitely my Sunday read.
Eeep. I’m excited about this. The romance doesn’t even make an appearance until the end of the first book if I remember right. But the entire first book world building and background creation for the character is stunning even without the romance that kicks in later in the series. Truly unique. I’ve never read anything remotely like this series before or since.
BTW, the Neanderthal Parallax series is also utterly unique. So I hope you’ll give that a chance at some point too.
I’m re-reading Try (Bev’s fault) and I have to finish and return SoT by the 29th. But I’ll start CotCB with ya, just because I’ve never buddy read it before.
Oh, BTW, I think you’ve read Transcendence, which is hugely popular around here? After, you read Clan of the Cave Bearand Neanderthal Parallax, I think Transcendence may fall to 3rd place for you. When I read it last year I thought “really good” but no where near Hominids or CotCB.
Michelle, I do so need to read Warprize.
Fabi, a couple of months ago I started a book that had so much of what I like, The Closer you Come. But I was so exhausted at the end of each day I’d barely get a couple pages read. I was starting to feel bad about the book. But it wasn’t the read just work etc. So finally put it aside to give it a better chance later.
Fabi & Michelle. I know I’ve mentioned it before but the final book in the Captive Prince trilogy comes out the beginning of Feb. I need & want to do a re read of the first two in Jan right before. You guys should think of reading the first one with me. I really think you both would like it. Hopefully they will put the first two on sale with the third coming out.
Bev, that’s exactly how I feel about SoT. I’ve only managed to read it twice I think, and both times kept me up until the early morning hours. It is SO good. But being a paperback, I don’t carry it around with me and I’ve honestly just been dropping into bed without even turning a light on at night. I want to finish it so bad. Maybe tonight…
I’m game to read the Captive Prince trilogy. In fact, the name sounds so familiar, I have to check to see if maybe I already have it.
No Change Policy in Room 8: Fractured Fantasies (Book 1) by Torie James is free.
*goes back to A Court of Thorns and Roses*
I should mention I have no idea what it is about. It was just in my wish list. π
I finished Wildest Dream yesterday and liked it although Finnie sometimes got on my nerves. Not as good as GD but overall a great book.
So I started last night Fighting Destiny from the Fae Chronicles but didn’t like it π I like my books with some sexy times but this one read more like an erotic novel and I really don’t enjoy that :/ So I am going to continue with Fantastical from the Fantasyland series π
Whew ok done with work and now reading time! Fabi, I’m really excited now because I LOVED Transcendence so if both those series top it, I will be in book heaven π
Need to finish Warlord first – Bev you do need to read the series since it’s very good and obviously held my attention through three books. I have the Captive Prince trilogy on my wishlist after you mentioned it before. I totally would do a buddy read especially if they go on sale maybe soon which is what I’ve been waiting for.
Oh and random question but does anyone have recipes I can find online that are AMAZING only…really only the best, most tastiest ones! I have spots for 10-12 more recipes in a cookbook I’m putting together for a fund raiser so wanted to find some ones to fill in.
I’m not a very good cook or baker. A few I’ve tried and worked well for me.
Smitten Kitchen’s ginger cake & orange and chocolate cake. I believe she also is the one I made a very good & simple marinara sauce with butter and lemon.
Pioneer Woman, Both her Ice Coffee and her Chicken & Dumplings, made with cornmeal & really good.
Oh She Glows has an avacado pasta that’s so good and very fresh and simple.
A beautiful mess has a one pot pasta that I was hesitant about but it worked and worked well.
Like I said not talented in kitchen but these turned out.
I started reading Contrite, and I’m only 10% but I’m almost positive I know what is going on (the hints/clues haven’t been terribly subtle)…either that or I’ve read so many books that now I just think I’m sooooooooo clever and that I know it all. π BUT, even if I’m right in my suspicions, I am absolutely dying to find out the *why* of it ’cause I am totally lost as to that aspect of it…and I love that!
Michelle, any particular type of dish? Does it matter if it is from a well-known source? I have tried many of Ina Garten’s recipes that are available online, and they are DELICIOUS.
Thanks Bev! I’m checking all those out.
Amy, nope just want some fillers that are really really good. I have a couple already submitted that people sourced from food network people. Um I really do not need any for particular sections…maybe a few more appetizers or veggie dishes would be nice but really anything as long as it’s yummy!
Okay then…
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/mac-and-cheese-recipe2.html
Holy freaking comfort food!! Hubby doesn’t care for gruyere cheese though so I substitute more cheddar or even cheddar jack or the gruyere cheese, and I don’t add the nutmeg.
Oh the chicken and dumplings one looks sooo good Bev! It’s kinda a soup though right?
Oh! And this!
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/salmon-with-lentils-recipe.html
The lentil part of the dish may not look like much, but it is FULL of flavor. And the red wine vinegar added at the end adds an unexpected bite. Oooooh, I’m getting the ingredients for that dish tomorrow ’cause I’m craving it now! π
Amy that looks delicious! Ok this is why I asked about recipes that people have made so I can get the changes. I hate nutmeg so bye-bye is good. What would be your favorite cheeses then – 4 c. cheddar and 2 c. only of the gruyere? Do you do the tomatoes on top?
That’s a good one too since I do not have many fish dishes. I would probably cut the part out making the chicken stock and just do store bought.
I’ve made it with and without the tomatoes and bread crumbs, and both ways are delicious. Also, I use panko bread crumbs for the extra crunch.
As for the cheese, I have used 6 c of cheddar or 4 c of cheddar-jack and 2 c of cheddar. I love gruyere so one of these days I’m going to make a smaller batch of it with the gruyere just for me so I can see how it tastes with that kind of cheese.
Oh, and the lentil dish…don’t forget to turn the heat down to simmer. I forgot to reduce the heat one time and scorched the dish. Scorched lentils taste like burned a$$…er, I mean burned popcorn. π
I was looking at the Captive Prince trilogy but book 3 will be out on Feb.2016. Ugh I wish it was already complete so I could start reading it!
Chicken stock…yeah, I don’t make my own either. Swansons chicken stock in the carton works just fine for me. π
Haha ok good on the chicken stock because that would be too much work for me too! I seriously want to make that dish like this week! They are both exactly the kind of recipes I’m looking for.
Bev, I think I like the idea of the one pot pasta too to include as a quick recipe which everyone is always looking for.
Yes, its a soup. With the dumplings steamed on top.
This is making me hungry. I think I’m going to get the stuff to make the avacado sauce tomorrow. Haven’t made it yet this summer.
Amy, I’ve had mac made with a gouda, I want to say. I think that was it, lol. It was so good & very rich. I love a good lentil soup. Oh, my mom loved IG. π As does The Smitten Kitchen. I believe the orange cake above is adapted from her.
Ok, there is a recipe I need to share. Not for book cause it does need adjusting, i just haven’t found quiet the right way yet. And it’s full of fat & salt. Full of it. That was the problem some pieces way too salty. But the rest so so tender with the crust on top. Let me see if can find it.
https://www.mexicoinmykitchen.com/2009/08/how-to-make-pork-carnitas.html?m=1
I used the oven bag way. The skillet way I’d probably destroy. I’m horrible with things I have to watch as I usually go off and start reading, lol.
Sorry you didn’t like the Fae Chronicles, Anne! Proof that we are all different. *grins* Hopefully the other one does better for you.
I finished a Court of Thorn and Roses. I really liked it except some of the tension should have been longer, making my heart ache a bit. Oh well, it was still really good. I loved the end, and I’m hoping for a second book. I still like the Throne of Glass better.
Now off to a book I can’t believe I haven’t read yet. Stormy Persuasions by Johanna Lindsey. Judith’s book, aka Anthony Mallory’s oldest daughter. π I don’t expect great mystery, but happy grins galore from it.
Sorry Michelle, I hate to cook. The best recipe I ever had was in a book I lost. I can’t even Google the ingredients to get anything close to it.
Me too Michelle. My mom is the cook in the family. I tend to burn water unless I boil it in the microwave.
Oh my…that looks yummy, Bev. I am so saving that recipe! π Mac and cheese with gouda?? Hmmm, my shopping list for tomorrow is growing…
*snicker* I tried to boil water in the microwave one time. IT burned ME. I’m not kidding. π
Wait, I missed something up there…Anne didn’t like the Fae Chronicles? *scrolls up* Ohhhh, ’cause of all the sex. Yep, there is a lot of it in the FC. You’ll have fun though getting lost in Fantasyland. π
Yeh, just catching up with all the comments after my weekend at the music festival with my daughter.
I did manage to finish Vanguard tonight. It was ok. I think the suspense/angst could have been more intense and the H/h relationship was too formal and just meh to me. Now what to read?
All the recipes look good, now I’m craving mac and cheese.
Oooh, Amy I had thought about reading Contrite, but I wasn’t quite clear if the next book Reprisal was the conclusion of the story.
Tessa and Amy yeah I didn’t enjoy it much but thank you for recommending it to me! I always appreciate your recs π I don’t mind sex but this one had a little too much for my taste and it distracted me from the story. But I have to say Ryder was hot lol
Cheryl I haven’t read Vanguard but kinda bummed it wasn’t amazing π
Cheryl, that sounds so fun. Did you see any good shows?
Bev, I wasn’t really familiar with any of the bands that played, but I did like Delta Rae, Kopecky and Courtney Barnett. π
I actually really liked Vanguard, but I get what Cheryl is saying about their relationship bring a little too formal.
Wow. This hydrocodone is kicking my butt. I can’t stay awake. I did finish The Martian, Fabi. Loved it. Now I am reading Half My Blood, the 212 page Novella in the Dartmoor series. I really really like these people and am glad to get another glimpse into their lives. Can’t wait for the next book. Best MC club books ever!
MichelleS, glad you liked it. It’s very different than what we normally read here.
Hydrocodone – ugh, that stuff is rough. It makes me so loopy and that’s ona good day that it didn’t make me nauseous. Hang in there!
Fabi: it was different, but I like a good Sci-Fi every now & then. It’s one I can easily recommend to a bunch of people. I can see why it’s gotten such high praises! Keep ‘me coming with the unusual recommendations!!!
Started The Clan of the Cave Bear and I’m straight away sucked in! It’s a long one though Fabi. Can’t wait to continue later – excited about how different it is!
I finished Contrite and…no. Just no,
*shakes head*
No, no, no. Nope. Nuh-uh.
I’m dying to unload all of my issues with it, but if I do then I’m just going to sound mean. Like, *really* mean. Mean-Girl-on-crack mean. So I’ll just say the story idea was great and the first half had me hooked, but then it became just…nonsensical. The events, the dialogue, the characters’ inconsistent actions, the “CH epilogue”…it was just all so ridiculous that I was embarrassed *for* the author. SEE?? I’m being mean but I’m just so annoyed right now! π I know, I know…I should have just stopped reading it but I was really hoping it was going to be a mind-messery book where it would all pull together in the end. But it never did. And I actually bought the second book last month which I will now never read. *sigh* It’s 5 o’clock on the East coast, right?
Awww Amy, hate those books. Hope your next one is a five star.
Michelle, I am so super freakin excited. I don’t know ANYONE whose also read this favorite of mine. Well…I once tried to make my son read it, but he didn’t like it. He was 14 or 15 at the time. Lol
MichelleS, you’re so right! The Martian is one of the few books that can be recommended to anyone. If I had a grandpa, it would the only book I’d share with him. “blush* Yet, its entertaining for anyone. Glad you liked it. I don’t think it was on my favorites but it easily could have been. I had a really hard time cutting that list down.
I have to get back to the Martian. I’ve checked it out twice. But first time bronchitis & second when I was barely reading a couple pages a night after work, lol. The bit I read i liked. I enjoy how he was trying to figure out how he’d survive & for how long.
Reading Obsidian because I was in the mood for a bully jerk and boy did I get one!
Amy, it’s past 5 here on the east coast….go make that drink!
squeeeeeeeee!!!! I love, love, love (hate) Damien.
Yep Fabi, that’s about what I’m feeling right now!
*happy clap* <—– For Jean reading Obsidian and the go-ahead for a drink. π
"Hey Kitten, want a cookie?" π
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=45ZfZ2zjaKE
My ovaries just exploded.
Yes Jean happy for you.
*does a very slow happy clap for Jean*
Bev, I promise I didn’t forget about WiR!!!!!!
LOL!!!
π
Sorry Bev.
*turns head away and snorts*
Awww Amy, that was precious
Now, now Bev, no need to get pouty, we can take turns with our favorites. (Not like we don’t love most of them in common) π
I was referring to the video Amy. Y’all were posting as I was writing. Lol
You know what would make my ovaries explode? If Amy would read SR … Especially after that disappointing read… Cause you know she wouldn’t even come up for air… And maybe make a reaction video like Maryse’s Jezebel one…. That would do it for me. And I’m suffering here, Amy. You should do this for me! I’m disabled…. Sorta’
omg omg omg yes yes yes PLEASE
Amy read SR next. And don’t give us some BS about not reading it because Jean isn’t reading something of yours. There are a BUNCH of us recommending SR. Just read it. Then, if you don’t like it (not gonna happen) you can come back and rub it in our faces.
PS…don’t you dare “go there” with any of my wording…I know you…hmphf
Lol, I think I’m just grumpy today.
Yeah Amy, what Fabi said about SR and you should really do it for MichelleS….ya know, in her honor! Lol
Really, MichelleS? Lol.
You should totally use that now all the time.
Like, Maryse have you read Jacked? *Grabs shoulder*
I do hope you are feeling better. Are you doing better on the meds?
Aww Bev haha – Jean, you better run from the WiR peanuts because I have a dusty bag around here somewhere too *rummaging around*
I’ve got a couple freebies to post in a few. I’m just cleaning up after making this recipe to try for our cookbook: https://thewanderlustkitchen.com/hawaiian-style-macaroni-salad/
Bev: I never said I played fair! I will use a good old fashioned guilt trip, sympathy trip, whatever!! I have a limited window here! Yesterday was worst day yet. TMI, I know, but…. Surgery & pain meds = constipation. Ack! For that alone, Amy, you should do this for me! π
I like how everyone dog piles on Amy, while Jean skips on by all “la la la.”
Michelle that looks like a fun site. I’m not into spicey, but am curious about the colorful and fragrant spices used in some ethnic dishes.
Fabi, I can’t remember if that cookie scene was in the first or second book but it was great, wasn’t it? π
A few freebies (intrigued by a couple including Born which sounds like more dystopian/zombie fun):
Consumed by Skyla Madi
Shelter Me by Kathy Coopmans
Born by Tara Brown and AE Watson
Firefly Hollow by TL Haddix
Whispers in Autumn by Trisha Leigh
Grave Intentions by Lori Sjoberg
Spiral by Maddy Edwards
Watergirl by Juliann Whicker
Tainted Love by Erin Cawood
Wow, Amy how can you resist that peer pressure. π
A cookie never looked so good! Another series I haven’t read.
I love that site Bev – made a couple recipes from it and all have been delicious. The salad is simple but the vinegar trick is genius!
Whoa!! What the heck, man? Did everyone take bitchy pills today or what?? Y’all are just itching to start something with me! *focuses on lighting tampon on fire* Oh wait, we’re not using these right now?? Hee-hee, my mistake…
First of all…it’s *not* BS! I’m not going to be the one to cave on this SGT-SR thing going on with me and Jean. *yanks Jean back as she tries to skip by* This is YOUR doing, missy!
Secondly…you have hydrocodone MichelleS so I KNOW you’re feeling pretty good right now. That sympathy card won’t work with me! Although, the surgery + meds = constipation…now THAT will get some sympathy from me. Morphine and I are not friends because of that. π
That all being said…NO SR UNTIL JEAN GIVES IN!!!
Hey, Fabi. The whole sweet dreams title is cause Lauren has insomnia. And one of Tate’s responses is, “You want sweet dreams, lose the attitude and you might find I’ll give you reason to have them.”
Lol. He is such a jerk.
Cheryl!! You have to read the Lux series! Have to! π
Michelle, I like vinegar in recipes.
MichelleS, look up Power pudding for constipation. Helped my mom when she was on a lot of meds.
*snicker* Fabi, I won’t be rubbing anything in anyone’s face, but I’ll bet Daemon has a cookie he would like to rub in your face. π
What…ever Amy. Miss out on a great book cause you’re being stubborn. Wth is SGT anyways?
*scratches head* am I channelling Bev now? π
MichelleS so sorry to hear its been so rough for you. Loads of sympathy sent your way.
Fabi, did you see Lifetime is doing a Clan of the Cave Bear TV series directed by Ron Howard!
I just looked up the recipe! Doesn’t even sound half bad! Sending hubby to store now. Ya’ll enjoy your Martinis while I drink prune juice! Ha!!
I can’t find anything to read. Someone badger me into something!
So………*whispers*………does anyone else think Amy was in a gang? Hopefully the kind that wore pink jackets and sang. Would explain why she doesn’t like those Sandra Dee characters.
Fabi!!! Lol.
MichelleS what you in the mood for?
MichelleS, if you’re really desperate… get a bottle of Magnesium Citrate… mix it with Sprite or Ginger ale, and voila… no more med related bathroom woes.
Now, what about a buddy read this coming up weekend? I’m reading Fantasyland right now, but I want in on all the chick fights… um, I mean spirited discussions we have here haha!
Definitely Rizzo… π
Let’s see… In the mood for UF or PNR or MC club… Feisty girl… No one shy or damaged… Jerk face guy…. You know! The usual! Just something to keep me awake between pills… While I wait for some power pudding to take effec. Ha!
MichelleS, PNR with feisty girl and jerk face guy AND free, voila!
https://www.amazon.com/Bloodfire-Blood-Destiny-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00AU43ZXK
hahaha MichelleS. That’s too funny.
Have y’all ever wondered what a non-reader outsider would think of our book preferences? *shudder*
Michelle, I hadn’t heard of the TV series. But I know they made a movie a long time ago. It was the awefullest of the awful book to movie makings ever.
I almost finished SoT last night so I’ll be joining you for a reread. π
Ooh! I have Blood Destiny on my Kindle. Yay! There’s a jerk face guy? I couldn’t tell… The description was vague about the hotness factor… Didn’t want a Simon & Meg situation where I’m STILL waiting for hanky panky. LOL … Okay… Blood Destiny it is.
RIZZO??? Screw that, I’d be Frenchie!! π
MichelleS, refresh my memory…have you read the Lux series?
Awfullest of the awful movies from book for me, Fabi was Flowers in the Attic. I devoured that book umpteen times as an adolescent, then movie came out years later…. Horrible! Just embarrassing.
Aw crap, Bev’s gonna be all over you for that comment…
Ahhhh Fabi I looked up the movie trailer and I can never unsee that! *screams in terror*
Wait, never mind…you found something to read. π
Now *I* want to see this movie trailer Michelle…
Okay, Frenchie is good. I was thinking the most feisty one! And I liked how she said Kenickie.
I started to read Lux… Quit at about 60-70%. It was just timing is all. Not that it was bad. At the right time, I would probably have gobbled it up. I liked Covenant better right away. Same author, right?
Oh wait hold up MichelleS, you didn’t say needs hanky panky because unfortunately this is another slow slow burn…Meg and Simon slow now that you mention it haha
*wails NOOOO* do not even mention that trailer because I’m reading the book and cannot think about it!
No because it’s unique. Any other book you know that has scritching???
Oh man! That looks like s bad Geiko commercial! Ha! So the books were better than the movie? I have heard that before.
Lol you guys crack me up! So what book is SR? I am kinda lost lol
Anyways I am almost finished with Fantastical and liking it so far but nothing comes close to GD.
Also I’ve had Obsidian on my Kindle for ages and haven’t read it! He’s a jerk? I’m in!
MichelleS hope you are feeling better!
Which reminds me I have a trip to the salon this week. Yay, me!
Maybe Wild Reckless MichelleS? I’ve read one of the Phoenix Pack books by Suzanne Wright. Sort of old school shifter mates.
Yep, same author…Jennifer Armentrout. Covenant is definitely my favorite of the two series, even though I loved Lux, too. You said feisty h and jerk-face H and PNR or UF so I thought of Lux since we’ve been chatting about it. π
Anne, SR is Surviving Raine…they have been on my a$$ forever to read it, but I’m not touching it until Jean reads Sweet Gum Tree ’cause that’s the deal we had but NO ONE is giving HER crap about that!!!
Sorry Fabi, I forgot to answer you above…SGT is Sweet Gum Tree. Not that JEAN was going to answer you or anything…
Amy I haven’t read Surviving Raine either. So you are not alone lol
Ohh The Sweet Gum Tree! One of my faves! Seriously Jean you need to read it ASAP (no pressure)
Scritching! Ha! Love that. And stag sticks!!! It was all fantastic, but I need not a slow build right now. Too doped up for that. That’s my barometer for super slow romantic build: Meg & Simon.
Yeah do not touch Bloodfire MichelleS if you do not want a slow burn because I’m talking books not pages if ya get me!
I’m still having trouble reading this book now without seeing f’ing Daryl Hannah!
The funniest part of the SR & SGT thing for me is that they are polar opposites as far as books come. Sweet vs Gritty. And they keep getting tossed around in same argument! So funny. Loved them both… SR more though! Will get crap for that I’m sure.
Surviving Raine… say what Amy and Ann *smacks wooden spoon into my palm*. Girls, lemme break it down for you. MAJOR jerkface bully. Stranded together. HOT smut. What are you waiting for???? *sips tea*
Um…..did Grey just get a little freaky?
MichelleS, There is a book I really liked called All of Me by Gina Sorrelle (Sp?). The writing maybe not for everyone but really enjoyed it. Strong h, Broken H.
For one of the ones I mentioned above, Maryse’s review.
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-review-wild-reckless-by-ginger-scott.html
Sometimes it feels like that movie Groundhog’s Day around here… The same conversations happening over & over… But so funny… Bringing out the wooden spoon!!! *sips prune juice*
HA!!!! *jumps up and down* See??? *points at Anne* Even she says to read SGT!!
I know, MichelleS…the deal was SR or OTI on my part for SGT on her part. And I’ve already read OTI so…yeah, she’s up now! Good lord, how long ago did Jean and I start this?
*sticks rear out and points to it* Right there, Grey…I dare ya!!!
Both of those sound good. Which one is better? WR? Or AoM? Maybe I’ll download both samples…. How did I miss Maryse loving WR??? That wasnt even that long ago.
So SR… It’s like when we get nutso about GD and try to convince holdouts… Because it’s on that short list of OMG books. Grey was just there herself… So she’s just as passionate about this one, I think!
Yes!!! I’m late to this comment party, but I did. I DID love Wild Reckless!!!! π
OMG!!!! Get it???????
Grey…wooden spoon…getting a little freaky…pink background…
It’s Fifty Shades of Pink!!!!!!!
*cackling*
*slips vodka into MichelleS’s prune juice*
That’s disturbing on so many levels.
Moi, freaky? You might say that… and furthermore, you’d probably be right. *Swipes vodka from Amy.
I heartily agree with Bev’s Wild Reckless recommendation, gah, the feels on that one were intense.
Golden Dynasty, you guys were *SO* right about. I don’t think I was a holdout per se, I just hadn’t been formally introduced yet. *Yes, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it*
Not Fifty Shades of Pink. No, definitely not… Amy’s rear might be if she doesn’t stop being cheeky though… *giggle, get it rear…cheeky… wooden spoon? Bueller? Bueller?*
Help me, I’m not making the connection, OTI is what again?
MichelleS hard to say. I did like them both and two different feels.
Grey, On the Island.
BAM!!! Point for Grey!! π
MichelleS, for being on some fun meds time, a good jerk H, fiesty h is The Fertile Vampire. Silly, cute, no brain, and a lot of smack talk. I gotta look at it though to see the steam level. It’s been too long.
Oh wait, wait, WAIT…
I didn’t mean that weirdo Frenchie…I meant that blonde chick who was in the Pink Ladies. What was her name?
Oh, nope. Nvm. The romance was non existent. Gah.
*snicker* Tessa said “a good jerk”… π
Marty? You’d want to be Marty?
*blinks* I did. *runs off and hides, blushing*
Wow Grey! You naughty naughty girl! I knew you had it in you lol I need to read SR now! Like tomorrow now after your description.
Wait what’s wrong with Frenchie?

Thanks Bev!
Damn right Amy, *marking point in my special column*
Anne… you wont be disappointed. He’s such a jerk-bully. *Insert exaggerated eye roll here* Can I have some of that fancy brain bleach, so I can read it for the first time again with you???
Yes, Marty…that was it!
Nothing wrong with Frenchie really, she was just weird cause of her hair and how she talked I guess, lol. Been a while since I watched it but I remember being a kid and thinking Marty was the prettiest. π
LOL Bev!! Okay, grown-up me relates more to Rizzo after seeing that.
Whoever called it for Rizzo, martini for you!!! *holds out mango martini*
Oh, Michelle, I hope that movie trailer didn’t ruin the series for you. I never would have mentioned it if I’d though you’d go watch the nasty thing.
MichelleS, I never saw the Flowers in the Attic movie. Sounds like that may be a good thing.
Gah, it got late on me quick. I wanted to do some reading tonight.
You know, MichelleS, if you want quick, hot, and easy, you could pick up the Kindred Brides series again. Maryse’s mention of the next installment has it on my mind to get back to.
Frenchie us sweet and all, but a major dip. She’s the one who dropped out of high school to go to beauty school. Then she had the audacity to be in Grease two!
Sadly, I was always a Sandy type.
Amy, if you want, we could buddy read SR after I’m done with Stormy Pleasure. Or you can hold out until Jean reads Sweet Gum Tree with no buddy read.
Tessa, I’m a total sandy too.
If you all want Amy yo read SR you need to change your tactics. You need to focus on Jean.;-)
But she’s reading Obsidian. Hey Amy! She’s reading one of your suggestions! Read SR with me tomorrow since she half way listened.
Woohoo! I got a couple of deliveries from pre-order. I love that. I forget I’ve pre-order something and ding, ding, ding, special delivery on my Kindle. π
You guys are absolutely nuts! I’m really liking Obsidian….60%.
Bev, I thought you were my friend! And good point Tessa, I am reading an Amy recommendation right now and have read many of hers! I don’t know why we are both being so stubborn! Guess I should just break down and read SGT next and end this feud once and for all!
*kicks hacker in the head* Seriously, I haven’t gotten that card replacement and am not getting a new one until later. Which means I had to cancel my pre-order for Every Last Breath. *kicks hacker again*
Jean, you will probably just want to finish that series. It’s that good, right? Also, the mc mentions other books she’s read and loved, that led me to other really good books by other authors.
Jean, people were asking her about it 5x a day, lol. I couldn’t take it anymore, lol.
Tessa, that sucks. I hate a thief. Makes me think I should switch to gift cards.
I only use gift cards now. That sucks Tessa, but wasn’t yours a gift card that was hacked? I can’t remember.
I am really loving Obsidian and love that mc is a book blogger! I don’t have the second book yet so not sure if I will continue right away. Besides, I’m feeling the pressure to read WiR (to satisfy bev) and SGT (to shut Amy up)! Hahahahaha!!!!
I’m not sure if I want to stick to the reads I have lined up or Him. Those hard choices.
I read Love Hurts by Mandy Beck, OMG I couldn’t put it down. I read it in less than 24 hours and I work 9 hours a day with 1 hour of commute time total. The cliffhanger is absolutely insane. I am almost upset that I read it without the 2nd book being released, but not quite. I would recommend that to anyone who is looking for something quick to read. The prologue pulls you in, the 1st sentence alone pulled me in. Happy reading. π

Had to share because I so so wanted them together. Only as an adult did I really realize how wrong that is. Makes me want to do a rewatch. We should totally do a buddy watch sometime of something.
Bev, I got Him on pre-order so it arrived last night. It’s whispering my name now.
Yeah, it was. I just promised myself I’d wait for my birthday before buying another. There’s going to have so many fun books to buy the next day! *grins*
I’m reading Surviving Raine and I’m loving it! He’s such a jerk! OMG Only 6% in and he already made her cry? Jerk.
Bev, who didn’t root for the Goblin King? lol To a 10 year old, that was romantic! But my bad guy obsession is far older than that. A 1984 cartoon called Voltron cemented my love of villains. I wanted the princess to love the evil prince so much, rather than that boring hero. lol
*hugs Tessa* it only gets worse —- then it gets so better that you’re pant…oh, ahem, I meant “heart” melts into a puddle on the floor.
Yay Tessa! So happy you are reading SR!
I said I would. Heck, when he made her cry, I knew it was my type. The stupid meanie.
I so had the hots for the Goblin King & David Bowie and that whole “look”. It never even occurred to me it would be creepy in any way! What do you think the age difference was? My 80’s love fest was with Ladyhawke. Remember that one?
Rutger Hauer is 14 years older than Michelle Pfeiffer, and, again, I was perfectly fine with that! Im surprised I didn’t marry an older man! My hubby is 1 1/2 years older…. that’s it. All that teenaged angst & build up for nothin’.
I’ll have to look that one up MichelleS. I used to love the older man trope…….and no I do not want to pschoanalyze it, lol.
I never saw Jareth as the bad guy back then either. I really wanted them together. And I thought he was so very hot, lol. I wonder if because it’s David Bowie? He’s definitely sinister but his size and the way he is dressed, you know? Disturbing but not scary.
Fabi, I’m loving this book! So different and refreshing and I like how you are getting multiple POVs. It’s going to take me a while to read it though – only got to 20% after reading for what seemed like 2 hours or something!
Nope, sorry Tessa…not going to be able to read it with you. Again, blame Jean. π
It’s not even about the books themselves anymore seeing as how Jean and I have both read other recs from each other throughout this whole thing. It’s about who is going to give in first. π
Michelle, so glad you’re enjoying it so far. It’s epic fantasy, so yeah, its super long. I actually have a preference for those longer books and its one of the few times I understands a story being split into multiple books. Can you even imagine this series in one book?! Plus, each book has a definitive ending, no crazy CHs. Ahhh, the good old days. hahaha
Amy, ever heard of cutting off your nose to spite your face? …just sayin’
Ugh Amy …..you are killing me here! I KNOW YOU WILL LOVE SR!!!!! I’ll be the one to give in first because I really want you to read SR and that is so against my Italian nature!
20% left of Obsidian and then…..and then….yeah, can’t commit yet!
Lol Fabi!
*snort* Good one, Fabi! Although, I HAVE always wanted a nose job so… Yeah, I’m vain like that. π
Oh Jean. Sweetpea. You’re dealing with a German-Irish here. *giggle* We could be quite the formidable force together. π
Lol Amy! I’m Italian-German, but my Italian side is dominant!
German!! *fist bumbs Jean* I do have a bit of Italian in me (not a whole lot but enough to count ;)), but the Irish tends to try and overrun the German most of the time. Probably why I can handle my liquor. Most of the time. π
Hmph, well, I’m Italian with nothing else mixed in. It’s taken me decades to rein in my “Italianness”. If you know what I mean. I think I do a great job now (although no one who knows me agrees). :-/
*blinks* German and the whole English Isle here. Germans are feisty?
Another short German in the house! The only Italian I have in me is on hanky panky nights, GASP! I went there….
I married into that hot mess of short fused Italianess. But genetically, 100% German…aka equal opportunity Nutella lover.
Oooooh!!!! Ooh ooh ooooooooh!!!!!! *points and shakes finger at MichelleS* And y’all freaked when I made a similar comment about not having any Mexican in me except for a few times a week!!! HA!! I’m not the only one with a dirty mind that goes *there*!! π
Tessa, people have always said it’s the Irish in me that makes me feisty…I think the German side gives me my temper. Yep, I’m blaming it all on my heritage and not taking ANY responsibility for those traits. π
Oh! Jean! I just remembered one of the series that she vlogs about in Obsidian is the Soul Screamers series. I can’t remember the others she mentions, and I’m 99.5% positive she never mentions the SS series by name, but I recognized it when Daemon said something about the “reaper guy” when he vlogged with her because I was actually reading *that* series at the same time that I was reading the Lux series. The Soul Screamers is a good one too!
I just finished Obsidian and it’s impossible for me not to go onto the next book!
Oh and I think Germans can be very feisty and stubborn (probably why Amy and I are playing this little SR/SGT game)! But my temper definitely comes from my Italian side!
And what a fun loving jerk Daemon is….i just want to kick him or hug him….yeah probably hug him!
Ok, Amy the Lux series is 5 books, 5 books to read!!!! Did you read Shadows first or Obsidian? YA huh?
I don’t think Amy or Jean will ever read SR or SGT because they are having too much fun arguing back and forth about it!! π
Cheryl, you *could* read Shadows first but I read it after Obsidian…it would probably have a better impact if you read it after Obsidian, however. That’s just my take on it. π
Yay Jean! You liked Obsidian!! I can’t remember, have you read the Covenant series by the same author? If not, I may have a deal for you. *rubbing hands together*
If you read the Covenant series next (’cause you gotta finish the Lux series now), then I…will…read…
Nope. I can’t do it. *shakes head* I can’t change the rules and give in like that. SGT for SR. That’s it and that’s all. π
Fine, then Amy! Read the new series by her. The prologue doesn’t have to be read in any order, but it does establish the world.
Awww Jean so glad you’re going on with it. It is definitely one of my favorite series. “For me” it edges out Covenant by a smidgen but only because my preference for sci fi edges out my preference for PNR by that smidgen.
