Quite a few reader recommendations today and some brand-spanking new releases (including a dark read, and an emotionally angsty sounding one) that totally gave me blurb jolts! I’m loving the recommendations today, because there are a few “new-to-me’s” (<— I know I’m not supposed to put an apostrophe there, but it reads better that way so just go with it) 😉 that I can’t believe I missed!!! Plus a few of the latest releases are are coming back again with reader feedback, so if you were wondering about a few that looked pretty darn great, they may be posted below. For example:
So many are just finishing this recent release, to the left, (Wrong) and letting me know how much they are loving it!
LisaC: I loooooooooved it! I was in a rut and it hit the spot. Loved Sophie! So much! It was a quick read that had angst but I was smiling and had several squee moments! I want more!
Kristi: this book is great!!! I loved it!!!
Jessica: I just started it and it’s really funny. I have a good feeling about this book… It’s got me giggling like a mad woman.
*sigh* My poor, bloated TBR list. 😉 This is on there, now! Tee hee! Oh and!! Plus!! Some deals too good to pass up. AND!!! This is not really book-related, but since so many of you know I’m an HGTV addict (and me ‘n a few authors love to discuss our love of old finds turned into rustic charms – *ahem Magan Vernon – my fellow Flea Market Flip fan* I thought I’d share THIS find with you: Oooooh I LOVE this new section on Amazon… handmade items?!! YES PLEASE!!
Now I shall scope out the handmade furniture section. I’m always jealous of those that get to buy the cool “Flea Market Flip” stuff on HGTV, so I might find a cool trunk, or desk converted into a wine bar or something! Tee hee!
Maryse: reclaimed wood!! I love reclaimed wood things. 😀
Lia: Cool idea. Reminds me that I once got a review on one of my books that said. “I love these handmade shelves…” LOL.
Adele: And this is why I love you, always so much more than a book blog!!!
Krista: it’s Amazetsy!
AND!!! Wow… this is kind of like a “Friday Week Wrap-up” for me ’cause also… from my latest 10 books on my TBR list? One book down (Book Review – The House by Christina Lauren), and I’m already reading another one from the list (MC Chronicles: The Diary of Bink Cummings Vol 1 and I’ll have the review up today or tomorrow), plus a 3rd on this list, we have a buddy-read planned for (Bird Box), tomorrow!!! Join us!!! It’s SUPER SCARY TERRIFYING AND TOTALLY FOR ME, I KNOW IT!!! I’m knocking this list out!!! 😀
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything! )
EBOOK BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order).
Twenty-One (21) by Clarissa Wild <— DARK-READ JUST WENT LIVE ALERT!!! Jenny found us this one saying “If you are in the mood for a dark read, this one was just released yesterday and already has 79 4* and 5* reviews!” and oh yes…. the WHOLE blurb gave me a jolt and here’s how it starts: “On her 21st birthday she’s taken. Collected by a rich family as an unpaid debt. Her body sold. Her mind his.“
- Repentance: The Story of Kace Haywood by Meghan Quinn <— JUST WENT LIVE & SOUNDS EMOTIONALLY DARK!! It sounds intense and angsty… kind of dark, even… for this author!! “Every choice you make in life comes with a consequence, which dictates the outcome of your future. I was once on top, I was living the life I dreamt of, I had everything I could possibly hope for. I was happy, satisfied, content…until one night. One off day. One moment in time I wish I could take back. My biggest regret. The once bright future I possessed vanished and in its place a dark world of self-hatred and loathing encompassed me. People like to celebrate the day they were born, I like to celebrate the day my soul died. This is my story of repentance.“
- Mortal Wish: A Scanguards Vampires Novella by Tina Folsom <— JUST RELEASED!!
- Grin and Bear It (The Grizzly MC Book 11) by Jenika Snow <— JUST RELEASED!!
- Ride Trilogy Book 1: MMA Fighter New Adult Romance by Jayne Blue <— JUST RELEASED!!
Ripped (A Shattered Hearts Novel) by Cassia Leo <— JUST RELEASED!!
- Addicted to Sin (Sinful Pleasures Book 1) by Monica James <— JUST RELEASED!! THERAPIST WITH HIS OWN ADDICTION ALERT! He’s a sex addict and hooked on two women… “I know who I should choose, but I never said I was the hero of this story, or even the good guy. And besides, who wants to be good, when it feels so good being bad?”
- Masters for Hire (Masters Saga Book 1) by Ginger Voight – JUST RELEASED MALE ESCORT ALERT!!! “Coralie’s safe, predictable life has all but been decided for her, and that leaves her itching to take a walk on the wild side. Enter Devlin Masters, an elite male escort whose sole purpose is giving Coralie whatever her heart desires.“
- Crosswinds: Episode 3 (Rising Storm) by Elisabeth Naughton <— JUST RELEASED!
- Collision (The Fight for Life Series Book 1) by K.A. Sterritt <— JUST RELEASED! GOOD GIRL & BAD BOY FIGHTER/BARTENDER ALERT! “When Juliette’s duplicit worlds collide with the handsome and untouchable Leo, both are impacted in ways they couldn’t foresee. Juliette’s life begins to unravel…”
- Girls Breaking The Rules – Alexa by Kelsey Burns <— JUST RELEASED by one of our fellow readers turned author! She’s been hanging out on our Facebook page for years now!
- Wrong by Jana Aston <— HER CRUSH-WORTHY CUSTOMER ENDS UP BEING HER DOCTOR ALERT!! Remember when I posted this recent release that sounded SO good from earlier this week? Well… Lisa LOVED it!! “Just finished Wrong by Jana Aston. Loved it!!! Cute cute cute story!! Light read sometimes you just need one of those. The kind you find yourself smiling & laughing to yourself & yet there’s still drama & lots of hotness!!! Has anyone else read it yet? Finished it in one day!! Heavy sigh!!”
Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre <— MY 5-STAR FAVORITE ALERT!! Okay I want to declare today to be another “best book sale day EVER” day! Thanks for finding us this super-sale, Jackie. One of my latest 5-star favorites (my review)!!!
- End of Day (Jack & Jill Series Book 1) by Jewel E. Ann <— Mixed reviews on this one (even though so many here love this author). Jen highly recommended it (blurb sounds crazy): “OMG…just wanted to bring your attention to End of Day…so good…like nothing else I have read. Unputdownable (new word?)!!!!” But my own mom wasn’t as enthused especially due to the ending of this one, considering book #2 was not out yet, but apparently it will be released tomorrow, so I thought I’d re-post it in case anyone was waiting for #2! The author says: “Tomorrow is the official release of Middle of Knight.”
Middle of Knight (Jack & Jill Series Book 2) by Jewel E. Ann <— AND HERE IT IS!! IT JUST WENT LIVE A FEW MINUTES AGO!!
- Fair Game (The Rules Book 1) by Monica Murphy <— book #3 will be out next week!
- Blindfolded Innocence by Alessandra Torre <— BRAD DeLUCA ALPHA-MALE ALERT!! Plus, Alessandra is one of my FAV authors ever! PLUS PLUS! Pamelia is LOVING this series! “I’m currently reading (and loving) her trilogy about Brad DeLuca (starting with Blindfolded Innocence) — he was Cole’s lawyer and even though he was only in a few scenes in Hollywood Dirt, I was super happy to find out there were already books about him. Love this author!!“
- Masked Innocence by Alessandra Torre <— And book #2 is on sale today, too! 😀
- Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass series Book 1) by Sarah J. Maas <— FANTASY FRENZY ALERT! A series that SO many are loving like crazy!
Restless Waters: A Left Drowning Novel (Volume 2) by Jessica Park <— SUPER-SALE JESSICA PARK ALERT!! This recent release! I LOVED book #1 (my review of Left Drowning), and Marina did too! “Wha?!?!?! Had no idea that Jessica Parks was writing a follow-up to Left Drowning! I absolutely LOVED that book. An all-time fave. So excited to read Restless Waters!! I’m finishing Rule by CD Reiss. Had somewhat of a slow start but then wham. Total shocker. And now I’m so in and dying to find out how it will resolve. Have some theories… but she’ll never lead you to a comfortable zone. Her writing style is just so darn good.“
- Whispered Echoes: An Urban Fantasy by Anne Michaud <— Leslie enjoyed this one! “Just finished, Anne Michaud’s Whispered Echoes. So good!”
- Blurred Lines by Lauren Layne <— BEST FRIENDS ARE SUDDENLY FEELING MORE ALERT! “…when Parker’s ex decides he wants her back, Ben is shocked by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ben starts seeing a girl from work, Parker finds herself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy…” Monique gives this one 5 stars! “Blurred lines by Lauren Layne….it’s so good, it’s going to be a 5 star for sure!” and it’s bargain priced!!
- The Contrite Duet Series by Kathy Coopmans <— TWIST AND TURNS AND MARRIAGE SECRETS ALERT! Brenda recommends this one! “Contrite Duet. It’s good has twist & suspense on the edge of my seat & can’t put it down.” and yes, I remember this blurb always jolts me! “Clove Calloway knows within an hour of picking up her husband Turner from the airport that something is different. Yet she can’t pin point what…” <—- Ooooooooooh!!!
- Come Undone (The Cityscape Series Book 1) by Jessica Hawkins <— WHAT TO READ AFTER ARSEN ALERT! Jessica is going crazy for this one, and I can relate! I LOVED it too! (my review) She says: “Just finished Jessica Hawkin’s Cityscape Series. HOLY good series. Like I’m obsessed. (Ignore the covers! )”
Burning Ember (Harbingers of Chaos) (Volume 1) by Darby Briar <— WHOA!!! CRAZY-SOUNDING BIKER BOOK ALERT! Over 500 pages, and the reviews are AMAZING! And Tina just recommended it and 5-starred this one, too! “Just finished Burning Ember by Darby Briar. It was fantastic. 5 stars!” Yes… just the start of that blurb excites me! “The last thing she needs after running from one monster is to land in the lair of the Devil.”
- Hot Shot by Susan Elizabeth Phillips <— SHE HAS TO MAKE IT ON HER OWN ALERT!!! Noriko likes this one! “Just finished Hot Shot by Susan Elizabeth Phillips…very good” and yeah… this sounds like it could be a fun journey! “In a single, impulsive act, Susannah Faulconer, the daughter of one of the country’s most powerful industrialists, follows her heart and finds herself severed from her family and everything familiar. Now she’s the only woman in a world of men…and no etiquette book can teach her how to survive.”
- Dreamspinner Press Greatest Hits
<— M/M ROMANCE LOVERS!!! Mischa is LOVING these! “I’ve been reading the best of dreamspinner press. 5 books for $10. All bundles have been super awesome so far. Plus lots of different types and storylines since multitude of authors. Highly recommend!”
- REVELRY (Taint Book 1) by Carmen Jenner <— Tessa is LOVING this one! “I am finally reading Revelry (Taint) by Carmen Jenner. I’m laughing so hard. Anne was right to say it’s definitely rockstars, and not wanna be poet or any job rockstar. Just had to share with you all the fact that I’m laughing seriously loud with this one.”
God Shaped Hole: A Novel by Tiffani DeBartolo <— UGLY CRY ALERT!! Sadie found us this one that I’m still too chicken to read, even though this same author wrote one of my most favorite books in the world, and supposedly this one is just as good if not better.
Carol: I’m scared to read it, too! I keep thinking if I made it through Me Before You, I can certainly read this….but honestly, I’m not sure I’ve fully recovered from Me Before You and I read that a couple years ago.
Val: How to Kill a Rock Star is one of my all time favorites. I waited a couple years to read this. I was scared. Ugly ugly cry. But so good. Both of them are brilliant.
Sadie: You guys it is so good! One of my favorite books along with HTKARS. Have a glass of wine and just do it.
Stella: One of my favorite reads…. A definite ugly cry but, a beautiful must read!
Paula: One clicked but scared!
Monique: This is one of the best books ever! Don’t be scared, it’s really worth it!
Angela: This is the book that started me on reading as an adult. I love this book so much. How to Kill a Rock Star is great too.

Get Maryse’s Book Blog updates delivered by email (you’ll get one daily email that will have each post from that day consolidated on it).
*groans* another list??? I CAN’T KEEP UP *sigh*
Thanks Maryse! *blows kisses*
I know it… Ela. I know it…
*eats kisses* 😈
Er… 😯 I mean.
*catches kisses* 😆
Tee hee. Maybe I’m in scary-mode right now? 🙄
I beta read Burning Embers – defo 5* read!!
Maryse – did you read After You? I’m on the fence about buying it and would love a review!
I’m halfway through it Paula. It’s.. good. IT IS!! Fantastic writing and internal dialogue.
But I’m just not captured by the story yet. So I put it down. Tried again a few days later, and put it down again. I intend on finishing it, but I’m in the mood for thrills and twists and stomach-aches right now, so I’ll try again later.
Thanks Maryse – I think I will wait! I loved the first one so much, I don’t want to ruin it!
Brad DeLuca sounds like my mood today *one click* So many TBRs and I find myself buying another book. *sighs*
Revelry does get darker, though the humor was there. It um, kind of love triangle? Still loved it, though!
After You was a good, solid 4 stars for me. It was another one that took me a bit to get into it, but once everything was set up (characters and storylines) then it seemed to take off. And the ending…I loved the how the last paragraph wrapped things up and yet…didn’t. I know, that makes no sense but if you read it then you’ll get what I mean. 😉
Twenty-One and Repentance are definite one-clicks! But I’m kinda disappointed about Iniquity because it’s been THREE YEARS since book 4 came out, and I only remember bits and pieces but not enough that I could just jump into Iniquity without a series re-read…and I don’t have time for that. Oh! I do remember I hated the names of two of the characters…Buns and Brownie. I kept cringing over those names.
Wow, I’m just a bundle of happiness today, aren’t I? 😛
Hollywood Dirt just went on sale for $1.99
Thanks so much for including Masters for Hire in your recommendations! 😀 It all started when my bestie asked, hypothetically, if I would ever consider hiring a male escort. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that having a man whose entire purpose was bringing your fantasies to life is quite the tantalizing notion indeed. Thus Devlin Masters was born. And I can’t even with this guy… #definitelymagic.
It is book one in a series, but Book Two is already available for pre-order and the whole series will be released by late November. You know me. No waiting. 😉
Although anyone who has read my books already knows you run the risk of hating me tremendously from the angst I write. Turns out I was just getting *started* with the Groupie series. O_o
Enjoy…. 😉
Oh Ginger, we LOVE angst around here.
Some of us a little more than others. 😉
chocolate kisses martini for Amy!!! STAT!
OMG JACKIEEEEE!!! *thud*
HOLY. MOLY I’m on it!!!!
I got the 2nd Innocence book and Throne of Glass!
So excited about Wild Restless and the 11th book in the Rocker series!
Ugh, not enough time in the day!
Woo-hooooo!!! We’re having chocolate kisses martinis today! 😀
And for our blankie-fort buddy read tomorrow… https://www.drinkoftheweek.com/drink_recipes/ghost/#axzz3o6ML7S14
Um, Jean? *scoots over and whispers* I don’t like that word “betray” in the Rocker title… 😕
I still want my mango-ish one please and thank you!
Thank you for that insight, Ginger!!!! I love a peek behind the book (and the author) and your brand of romance angst is so FUN to hate!!!!
😀
But Amy, it’s The Rocker series and I love them all!
I’ve read this. Why did I not know I read Blindfolded by Innocence? I know I read a lot, but ugh. Though, happy note, I remembered it immediately. The second the intern dispersing started, I remembered it. *goes to buy number two* Still re-reading this, though. 😀
Oooooh ghost drinks!!! I can’t wait for tomorrow. 😛
I am working on Addicted to Sin. I love a very bad, bad, bad boy! It was a perfect read after The Air I Breathe, which I highly recommend. So many good books out there!
Hi girls! 🙂 I’m in the mood for something like The Cityscape Series…I love love and love this series! you hae some advice for me? 😀 p.s.= I checked the list “what to read after arsen” but I not found a book or a series for me… some book it’s not for me( hero cheating :/ ) ,others I already read…someone whot want help me?!!? 🙂
Well well well, hello there carlotta!
So far nothing beats Arsen FOR ME!
Avoiding Commitment Series by KA Linde
Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan
Accidentally on Purpose by L.D. Davis
VIP by M. Robinson
Knight & Play by Kitty French
Hey Ella! I read Accidentally on Purpose by L.D. Davis but it didn’t work for me! Avoiding Commitment Series and Undeniable are both a big NO for me because I HATE the books with a hero who cheating..only heroine 🙂 !!! ( I know, it’s not fair but work in this way for me)
As for VIP by M. Robinson same thing and Knight & Play by Kitty French…I read the plot but is more light…if you know what I mean 😀
The other ones I can think of are:
Pure Abandon by Jeannine Colette
or
My Time in the Affair by Stylo Fantome
Omg Ela, I was just going to say Pure Abandon for carlotta! Read it carlotta! Sooo good!
Ooo or how about 53 Letters for My Lover!
Girls…I read both of them 🙁 🙁 🙁 (and I love 53 Letters for my lover!)
You’re reading Bink Cummings? Can’t wait to hear your review!
Carlotta…so you prefer it only being the heroine who cheats? Trust me, I’m not judging! I will only read cheating books where the woman cheats but will not read books where the guy does the cheating, unless the H is cheating *with* the h. If the H cheats on the h and she stays with him or goes back to him then the H and the book are absolutely ruined for me. 😕
Sooooo, my recs since you have already read the ones suggested (which were all GREAT and angsty) would be The One That Got Away or Is This All There Is…although I can’t remember if those were on that after-Arsen list.
I am attempting to find something to knock my socks off and get me over my slump. So I started Rook and Ronin. Seems like it would be ok, right?? Lots of recommendations. I just can’t get past the writing. Every single sentence is in passive voice. If I had a highlighter for every is, are, was, were, do, did, done, can, could…. well, you get it. SIGH. I guess I will go and download some samples.
Come on my book buddies. Throw me a bone.
MichelleS:
BIRD. BOX.
Let’s go for a ride!!! As soon as I’m done my biker ride, I just may jump into it tonight if I’m brave enough. It was supposed to be a day read for me, but I’m DYING to start it.
Well.. er… I hope not really dying – ’cause … you know. The scary.
Why is Manwhore giving me a Fifty deja vu??????
Amy! Did I read those 2? They sound very familiar????
That sounds waaaay too creepy for me. Dex & Perry are as creepy as I can handle.
I’m in the mood for an ugly duckling story. A good one. Plain Jane meets moody but hot and troubled guy.
Maryse if you do give a heads up.
MichelleS have you read Heaven Texas?
MichelleS did you read Fugly? It didn’t rock my world, but it was still good.
Oh bev… I WILL be diving in shortly… I need that fright. NEED IT.
And as I always say… in BOOKS. ONLY. IN. BOOKS.
*side-eyes potential scary invisible beings lurking*
DON’T!!! 😛
*raises hand* Since Maryse is ‘fessing up, I’m starting Bird Box tonight, too…have to get the full effect of scary book + the dark, right? 😉
Ela…in TOTGA, she isn’t married but has a long-time boyfriend (maybe fiance?) and reconnects with an old flame. In ITATI, she is married with kids but the guy-on-the-side is younger. Both are pretty good, nothing fantabulous but still worth the read.
Alright ladies what do we think of #6?
Know what I think of 7&8. Lol.
https://smexybooks.com/2015/10/smexys-top-ten-october-9.html
Love that show. Meh him. LOL!!!!!
I’m sorry don’t whip me!!! I know he’s awesome for the most part. Maybe if we cut his hair? They have scissors during the zombie apocalypse right?
P.S. While we’re at it, I thought the same thing of Jax. Meh. Kinda hot… just wanted to wash his hair real bad. He could keep his blonde length, though. 😉
Love his character. Daryl has one of the best character arcs on tv. And would totally want to hang with him at the apocalypse.
But agree both need some shampoo.
Whip you, lol. You have been reading to many books of a certain type.;-)
#6…no. I just can’t. It’s not that I think it looks bad, I just cringe at the thought of it rubbing on my face. I would be splotchy for like 3 days after making out with that. 😕
And even though NR’s Daryl character is kinda dirty looking, I’ll always think he’s pretty great after seeing him in Boondock Saints. 😉
OH I LOVED BOONDOCK SAINTS!!! I forgot! HIM!!!
*GASP* You’ve seen it?!?!? I didn’t think anyone else had!!! HIM with that accent…ohhhhhhhhh man, ovaries go KA-BOOM!! 😛
Heck yes I did… that movie was rough and intense and OMG I can’t believe I forgot him!!!
Watched it last month. So don’t say I never listen to your recs. Now you should watch season 1 of Sherlock. Now THAT is a VOICE
Oh, and I saw Matt Bomer in that episode of AHS the other night. It was…interesting. It had a pretty explicit (for a non-cable channel) foursome including him and Lady Gaga.
Yeah… 😕
Bev has seen it too!!!! Yay for Boondock Saints love!! 😀
How many seasons of Sherlock are there?
3 seasons out. But BBC so only 3 eps per season, lol. Try first ep? See what you think. I think they are awesome.
Cheryl is a fan, too.
Thank you Amy! Same thought with the beard thing. Just… no. I like to see a guy’s face. Lips are THE number one attraction for me. Beards make my viewing pleasure impossible.
He does sound pretty, though I’ve not watched it, just saw a few commercials.
I’m one of those weirdos who has never seen The Walking Dead (don’t throw peanuts – I read, remember? No time for TV, except Game of Thrones). But… if I had to pick a “guy” from that show it would definitely be Andrew Lincoln. He was such a cutie in Love Actually.
Still slumping… but I did download the sample of Heaven Texas, Bev. Sounds good. Him wearing white linen pants and a lavender shirt, purple cowboy boots and a ten gallon hat is crazy! So I am just picturing my usual hot blonde guy instead (you know, Rammel Hawking type).
Th beard thing…. over it. All the guys look THE SAME. I swear it’s the same model over and over, and it’s not. Maybe if I was in Alaska or something where it was authentic instead of trendy. Go shave already. (And quit with all the beard fondling. Ick. Went to dinner and the guys with beards stroked it the whole time. Public beard fondling and foreplay – yuck).
I need to make a tbr for movies and TV at this rate. 🙂
I just won a giveaway on goodreads! *begins jumping in excitement* An ARC of Reap the Wind (Cassandra Palmer series) by Karen Chance! *squee*
Was thinking of getting some reading of BB in but already sleepy, lol.
Tessa, Congratulations. 😛
I think you’d really like Sherlock.
Loved Sherlock. 3 seasons but each episode is like a mini movie and yes his accent * boom ovaries*
Tessa, congrats. It’s always exciting to win.
Which network does Sherlock air on? Is it a spin off Sherlock Holmes?
I just read Wrong. It started off so strong and funny, but I wasn’t quite sure about Luke- was he a creeper or just hot-older, alpha guy and Sophie at times was so immature- which in all fairness she was 21 to his 36.
Also read Ms. Manwhore- pure lighthearted love fest. No angst.
Ginger- thanks for that comment. I LOVED the Groupie trilogy and the angst ripped me apart, so it says something that Masters for Hire is so much more angst. Can’t wait to read that series!! 🙂
Fabi- BBC. It is a dark, spin-off of Sherlock Holmes. Brilliant!!
Thanks Cheryl.
Cheryl, “mini movie”, yes perfect description.
Fabi I think pbs too. But I always watch when out on dvd. Then re watch.
Can’t recommend Throne of Glass series enough! Each book gets better and better, great writing. Can’t believe the 5th book in Amy Bartol’s series is finally out, I had given up! And will definitely require a re-read. And MichelleS I completely agree about you beard comments and beard fondling…grosses me out! I detest the hipster look of skinny guy, clean cut head, and heavy, long beard….just such a turn off….
Great list…again.
But damn, I missed the sale on Alessandra Torre’s Blindfolded Innocence. Can only find it for $6. 🙁
Love love loved Blurred Lines…Ben and Parker are hot. Highly recommended. And sale! !!! No brainer.
AND God Shaped Hole. Oh dear I did love this book but it did leave me pretty ragged and torn up. But by brave….its worth it.
Just finished Manwhore series. Very enjoyable and could probably be filed in the ‘what to read after 50 Shades’ pile.
Also read Jessica Toppers newie, Softer than Steel and I cannot recommend this series highly enough. READ THEM please…someone.
Yes, they are ‘rockstar romances the ordinary girl’ stories with covers that look pretty run of the mill.
BUT! her writing…wow…her character development…wow….the way the stories unfold. Gorgeous. And so much more than you think you’re gonna get. 5 stars for sure.
Amy … I’m exactly like you about cheating 🙂 thank you for the suggestion although I still have not found what I’m looking for.
Ela, I read the Manwhore series and I really loved it! like says Lisa have something of “what to read after 50 Shades”…very enjoyble 🙂
Hey Maryse, I was on Amazon this morning and came across a couple of bargains you may want to post…Lacybourne Manor by Kristen Ashley is .99, Sommersgate House by Kristen Ashley is 1.99, Play it Safe by Kriten Ashley is 1.99, and Hollywood Dirt is 1.99!!! I am so mad about Hollywood Dirt b/c I just purchased it yesterday for 4.99….ahhhhh! Oh Well! Hope these are helpful!
Fabi, my library also has dvd’s of Sherlock-maybe your’s will too.
Going to be a slightly busy Saturday so decided to do some early reading. 14% in Bird Box. It is interesting but Im not scared yet. That’s not a complaint as Im not really one that likes to be scared.
But the whole “Girl” “Boy” thing. What is that?
Just finished Hollywood Dirt. Excellent read, and I loved that Brad DeLuca was back!
MichelleS,
https://www.heroesandheartbreakers.com/blogs/2015/10/jr-ward-shares-excerpt-from-the-beast
Though,”roast beef”????
Fabi, this is a fun review of The Martian movie.
https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/reviews/move-review-martian/
Tiny bit of reading and then on to next.
Just got am email from Cassia Leo…..Ripped was released today! Shattered Hearts Series! Love it!
Thanks Bev. The majority of reviews I’ve read loved the movie. Me…I read the book first. 🙁
Is it that bad comparatively?
I know some are horrible and should not have been adapted. Others I love both but separately. Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter, etc.
For me, it left out too many good parts and too much of the action I loved in the book. But, as you probably know by now, I’m just not a huge fan of TV/Movies. They have to have crazy action to hold my attention.
I used to love action, martial art type movies. Fight scenes and chases. Still do, love Warrior’s fight scenes. But then I started getting bored by them and missing movies with long conversation, lol. Like Downton. Love all the sitting/ dining room conversations.
But I know I love the HP movies BUT big downside was losing the richness of the books. All those wonderful side characters that pop off the page became flat in the movie. So as much as I enjoyed them in and of themselves, definitely not up to the wonder of the books. And the humor. Some of the humor got lost because of that.
Okay… late start today. Finished Bink #1 and posted the review, next is today’s Reader Favorites post (gonna get that ready) and then!!!
BIRD BOX. Yes. At night. GASP!!!!!!!!
I have perfect Bird Box weather…it’s dark, rainy and crazy windy! Yay me!!! 😀
I’m not far into BB so I’m not spooked yet, but it is reminding me a bit of M. Night Shamawhatever’s movie The Happening…anyone remember that one? We’re going to see The Martian in a little while and then I’m climbing in the blankie fort with Manny and a ghost martini, and some of y’all better be staying up late and checking in here tonight in case I freak out and need ya!
Bev, I’m curious too about the whole “boy” and “girl” name thing as well…
“Public beard fondling and foreplay – yuck” <——– *snorrrrrrrrrt!!!*
I’m staying up late!!! 😀
Agreed on the beards btw. I LOVE a little scruff… even just a little before “medium scruff”. That’s my limit though. I’ve never found a full beard (even if short and trimmed) to be my thing.
Scruff is good; but not a full beard and definitely not Duck Nation beards!! 😉
Thanks you all for the congrats. 🙂
So far, honest opinion of Bird Box? Not scared. *sighs* Annoyed, but not scared. I think it’s just not for me.
Yay Maryse!! Bird Box slumber party tonight!!! 😀
Tessa, how far into it are you? I’m creeped out over the “not knowing what it is” aspect right now. *shudders* Oh, those poor kids though. 🙁
Maryse and Cheryl and Michelle and all my makeup-loving friends…check this out:
https://www.sephora.com/got-inked-cushion-eye-liner-P397913?skuId=1711365
I have the Black Obsidian and Garnet Ink, and I am in LOVE with them! The color is buildable so you can wear it light or dark, but the best part is how easy the cushion thing makes it to get the right amount on the brush. I love playing with my makeup!
Ooohhhh Tessa I’m super super jealous! I’m DYING for that book – Pritkin is one of my favorites and I have to see what happens!
Have you read Shadow’s Edge by JT Geissinger? I’m listening to that one and reading Pure Abandon which I like a lot so far. My new attempt to listen to one book and read another is getting me through more books with my work schedule. My commuting goes faster with an audiobook playing too.
MichelleS, watch Walking Dead…do it! New season this Sunday and I’m excited to get my Rick and Daryl fix 😀
Amy, seriously I just ran out of my favorite MAC fluidline which was LE so I need a new brown shade and think I might try these. Do they have a shimmer or are they more matte? If you want a gorgeous unique color try MACs Siahi fluidline…really amazing on the eye and makes green or blue eyes pop!
Ok looked up swatches and see Garnet is more matte so I’m getting that one and Smoky Quartz. Can’t get to Sephora until Tuesday and hopefully I can get out of there without picking up too many other things…I NEVER get just what I go there for!
Actually my eyeliner too, is about to go kaput and I need a new one. YAY US!!! 😀 Thank you Amy!
https://www.allurabeauty.com/2015/stila-got-inked-cushion-eye-liners-review-photos-swatches/
These look like pretty good swatches of the eyeliner Maryse if you are splurging like me 🙂
Michelle, check out eBay…I have found so many LE makeup and nail polish items on there! The two colors I have are more matte, but I believe the Smoky Quartz, Amethyst and Sapphire inks are all metallic/shimmery.
My eyes are right in between green and hazel without really being either of those…more olive than anything. So unfortunately I can’t get away with wearing blue (and I’m jealous of those of you who can…ooh, Maryse could wear that color!) but I CAN wear that Macroviolet color and I definitely want the Lowlights color. Looks like we’re leaving early for the movie so I can make a makeup run. 😉
Yes Maryse and Michelle, definitely give the Stila liners a try! Hey, if they don’t work then at least Sephora will let you return them…but I think you’ll love them. Just make sure you have a good eyeliner brush. The Stila one is worth the splurge. 😉
I NEVER walk out of Sephora, MAC or Ulta with only what I went in there for. Never. That’s how I ended up with a VIB card at Sephora and platinum status at Ulta. *snort*
Fabi and Bev….I totally agree with you re: books v movies. I am always a book person over movie adaptations. Most movies are disappointing when you’ve read the book first. I however, hadn’t read the Martian and really loved the movie.
I think it comes down to the fact that in a movie you are only ever a spectator but in a book…..well you are fully immersed and completely participating. Your imagination is completely engaged.
Yes, Lisa totally agree. That was the difference between HP movie & book. Though still love the movies. The books though, totally roaming the halls of Hogwarts.
But the movie of Anne of Green Gables I saw before reading. And I watched it young. Just love for it. Even though it makes me cry, lol.
Also a huge fan of the Colin Firth P&P.
Just going to re pick up book for a bit before dinner. You know if I remember there was another scary book came out same time. Maybe called The Winter People?? Saw it mentioned on same blog.
I’ve done the search for LE products Amy but I’m too lazy anymore unless it’s an amazingly unique color…you can find substitutes easily in today’s market. My eyes are olive too, I say hazel but that’s the closest way to describe them. The MAC color is really a blue green and technically shouldn’t work for me either but boy do my eyes pop like crazy with this shade. Here’s the most accurate swatch I see:
https://the-swatchaholic.com/?p=3171
Has anyone on here read Jackaby?
When she thinks, “Do they know what they do? Do they mean to do what they do?”
I was surprised by this as I wouldn’t stop and wonder. Id just think they were absolutely bad.
Not truly scaring me but one scene gave me a little bit of chills.
The part with “And the longer he waits, the more scared he gets. Like the silence is getting louder.”
Oh, I wish for names, boy/girl starting to bug me. They are children.
I am a blue liquid eyeliner fanatic!!! ‘Tis true. I NEVER thought I’d ever wear that color again since my early teens, and lo and behold… holy moly it’s pretty!!!
OMG Michelle I MUST have that. That is the perfect blue,
Okay it’s 10pm and I’m reading Bird Box!!!! I’m so excited!
Bird Box. Huh. Didn’t know what I was expecting the title meant, but not this, lol.
Maryse, are you just starting?
Amy, I was thinking The Village.
i am at 13% and I am LOVING it. Creepy… and just so desolate.
Amy, love those colors and I especially like that it gives the look of liquid eyeliner without the difficulty of applying a liquid. I don’t ever come out of Sephora without purchasing more than I planned.
Saw The Martian tonight. I enjoyed it, but I could see where the “details” were not given like they would be in a book.
Oh Cheryl, they skipped so much in the movie. 🙁 But I’m glad you liked it. Maybe you’ll try the book one day.
Tessa, did you finish?
Its so sad.
Add this one please, I heard it is good. I love the author’s other books.
Expected release October 21st. Framed by C.P. Smith
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012HNX9QO?keywords=c%20p%20smith&qid=1444538467&ref_=sr_1_5&s=digital-text&sr=1-5
I hate to say it but I think I may be one who’d vote no. At one point I was chanting for her to say no.
Tom. I can’t believe how attached Im becoming to him.
Am I the only one who wishes they’d open their eyes so you can “see” at the same time you worry they accidentally will?
I still haven’t, nope. I got to angry at the writing and set it aside. The back and forth both being in present tense is distracting me from being scared. Also, disassociation by non-naming is just blah. As I said, it’s probably me, but the issues I have are annoying me too much. I’ll try tomorrow. Maybe it’ll be better then.
Back from seeing the Martian (it was good!) and now getting back to Bird Box…anyone still up? How are y’all liking it?
Are you talking about BB, Tessa?
Yeah. I really think it’s just me though.
Finished.
Made cry a little bit in a couple places. Pfft.
I like it. It never totally scared me though some creepy suspenseful moments.
Amazing how visual it felt though we could never see.
So have you ladies ever read two totally different books that for some reason one will remind you of the other?
While reading I kept thinking of Station Eleven. Both deal with the end of civilization but on very different ways. Yet, it kept coming to mind.
Both great reads. Now how to shake this off and with what?
I LOVED Wrong too! 😉 I was all over it yesterday. I kind of like it when there’s a bitch in the book 😉
I’m only at 22%… fell asleep. Well actually I was reading it with my eyes closed a few times (dreaming it and thinking I was still actually reading). LOL!!!
So I finally gave up before I had a serious nightmare and I’m back to it. I’m at the man on the river, gargling. Eeeeep! I don’t understand!!
I’m not sure what I want to read. Thinking I’ll start Jellicoe Road……but maybe something lighter.
*shrug*
See how it goes.
I’m at 50%… still really enjoying this one. I have so many questions and I’m always nervous. ALWAYS.
When they think something could be right there next to them? And they can’t open their eyes?
When I’m scared I want lights everywhere, lol.
Do you feel a sort of slow build up?
I seem to have started another book, Jellicoe Road, that’s going to have a lot of questions and a mystery to piece together.
It was a little jarring in the first few pages, as the reader is just thrown in. Definitely no over explaining by the author. But I think I’m in, hooked.
This heroine is so very very prickly. Lots of armor to protect a lot of hurt.
Dangit!!! I’m really getting into BB and getting creeped out (still! :D) and now I have to stop for real life stuff…which sometimes just isn’t as fun. *pouts*
On a totally off-topic note, how wonderful is that first sip of coffee in the morning? *snort* Yep, I’m feelin’ sappy today. 😉
I decided to go with Bev’s recommendation (Heaven, Texas) for my “ugly duckling” mood. I downloaded the sample and got hooked, so that’s what I picked. Already enjoying it, Bev, since she was mistaken for a stripper dressed all dowdy! ha! Go put on some more makeup and I hope you’re blonde under that wig, indeed. LOL.
That was depressing. I need something happy after Bird Box, because WOW, depressing. I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t scared. Nervous for them, sure, but not scared. The past vs present is still annoying though. Stick with past tense in the past! *grumbles* Maybe I’ve read too many PNR, but End of Days by Susan Ee was far scarier to me. So, yep, it’s probably just me. 🙂
Bobby Tom!! Happy claps, lol. I really like that couple. So need to do a re read.
Amy, a part of me does not want to get out of my pjs and another part wanted to get dressed just for a doughnut & coffee run. 🙂
Tessa, it made me cry. 🙁 I didn’t go really happy but totally hooked on my read. They are in the Outback yet its fitting this overcast morning. So hope I like it all the way through. BB a few moments gave me some creeps, but not full out scared. I did really like it though. Did you read Station Eleven?
Nope. I really should, with you all talking about it, but not yet. If it’s as depressing as Bird Box, no thanks. lol I didn’t cry, just was bummed. I hate bummed; it makes me grumpy. 🙁 The other book I got from the library won’t work. It’s a PNR mystery.
I’m going to read Neanderthal Seeks Human. I need funny.
I dropped the ball on the buddy read you guys. (Don’t throw things!) Real life got in the way this weekend! But now I’m not sure I want to read it based on Tessa and others comments. Hmmmmm…….. is anyone liking it? Isn’t there a book out there that’s so scary you can’t sleep, need to leave the lights on, and jump at every sound in the house? Anyone?
I still need to read Station Eleven….been wanting to for so long!
Jean, EVERYONE else is liking it. This is really me, not the book.
Lol. Its not happy but I wasn’t really depressed. I found it beautiful in parts.
You know what part kinda really scared me? To be vague the “cord” & the joy derived from it. *shudders*
I was not full on sobbing but just, hmm, sad tears. Why I usually stay away from the crying books. I’m set off a lot easier than I used to be lol.
Going to be very very vague but just to totally protect
BEWARE BEWARE

Her thoughts when she heard the voice recording, that section.
The attic door and begging
And when she’s listening to & apologizes to *spoiler* that one I was hoping the theory was right.
Oh, Jean. I thought it was a great read. Read it in the one day. Just had to know. It looks like Amy & Maryse (has fb updates) are liking it too. Just not a light read.
There is one called the Winter People that people liked—never read it so can’t say how scary.
Alright, little dude makes it impossible to be bummed. Asking for brownies at nine am. 😀 So I made him cereal. He spent the whole time staring at the brownies telling them, “I love you brownies. I will eat you soon, promise!” lol
I’m loving it. I’m at 70%
Lol, Tessa!
That’s how I feel about home made chocolate chip cookies.
Brownies for breakfast, LOL, heh there are eggs in it!! 😉
Just started Songbird. So far I like it.
So cute Tessa! I want brownies AND chocolate chip cookies!
That’s what I like about being an adult…if I want brownies for breakfast, there’s no one to tell me no…except for my conscious telling me how bad, how fattening, how unhealthy…bah! I hate being an adult.
I’m a broken record today, but this has been a great post BB read. Its not as heavy but not light either. The writing is great and there is a bit of a puzzle to put my mind to use.
I’m halfway through and really do not want to put it down. But irl calls.
The present is her pov and the boy is a bit of an unknown. But that’s just a small part of the story.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0061431850/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1444587168&sr=1-1
I’m happy with Neanderthal Seeks Human. I haven’t read much yet, but it’s cute.
Whoa. What a journey that was. Darn good. It wasn’t my most favorite thriller in the world but I must have liked it big time ’cause I couldn’t tear myself away. I had to know…
bev agreed… I found the friendships that were developed comforting, and the fact that it wasn’t only the “whatever it is” that could be a villain… I loved that aspect.
Of course I have a few hiccups with how they could possibly do as well as they did, blindfolded, but it was NEVER easy. In fact made me exhausted at times with how hard it was to just “live”.
And it was hopeful in its own way. I feel good right now. Pleased. Adrenaline rushes, a few creepies for sure… the imagery (especially when blindfolded) was amazing, and it felt well-rounded, in terms of what I’m looking for in a read.
I’d love a second one… I wanna know more.
Gah! Yes, bev. I have a theory about that… extra.
LOL Tessa!!! I’m so glad you’ve got a little dude to lift your spirits. 😀
Brownies make EVERYONE happy.
Okay next, I’m jumping into “Wrong”. I just need a giggle-fest pick me up. 😀
These are so cool.
https://bookriot.com/2015/10/09/incredible-literary-jack-olanterns/
Jean, maybe one of these?
https://bookriot.com/2014/10/20/oh-horror-scary-reads-season/
Bev, they are awesome! Thanks for that list…..Snowblind jumped right out at me!
That book was great. But now I definitely need something light. Whoa.
Fabi just put on the newest ep of Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast and its about…….The Martian, lol. Its everywhere.
I realized after reading Maryse’s post, I haven’t been truly scared of a book since I read Season of Passage by Christopher Pike. 0.0 In 1992!
Who is watching Walking Dead tonight – cannot wait! Hope I’m not too tired and can read some more of Pure Abandon after since it’s really good! Finished Shadow’s Edge which was ok…enough ok that I will listen to the next audiobook. I will say it has unique paranormal creatures, if the story was better, I would love it.
Tessa, Im trying to think but not sure if I’ve read other horror. Besides my love of WD I usually avoid.
Monster of Florence scared me. Parts of mystery type books have—I guess people sometimes scare me more than monsters. I remember some disturbing scenes in the early early Anita Blake.
Nope. Michelle still not caught up on last season. Which I know will break my heart. 🙁
Ughhhh, *pout* I’ve missed all the fun. I’ve had the most awful migraine weekend, it’s been un.real. Imitrex, dark rooms, ice packs, more ibuprofen than is healthy… finally on the other side of it.
So, yes, I’m pouting, sounds like you guys had an amazing time this weekend.
Wrong, Addicted to Sin, Twenty-One and Repentance are all giving me a jolt… I think I still have to finish Beware 2… see, that’s how sick I was. LOL!
missed you all… congrats Tessa on the book giveaway!
Well, Bev, I just finished Heaven, Texas. I read it straight through. Sigh. Loved it. Just perfect. Exactly what I needed. Good old fashioned romance, ugly duckling meets bad boy former athlete. 5 stars for me!!! Are the others in this “series” just as good? And come on, how good was that secondary story??? Throw me another bone.
Bev – I just had to laugh at all the 90’s clothes references. Those colors! gasp. But the story was amazing. Better than Hollywood Dirt, IMHO.
YAY GREY!!! Ooooops!!!
*whispers* yay greyyyyy
I hope you are feeling better now, my friend. I HATE headaches. I say headaches because I don’t think I know what a migraine is yet, but I have had headaches bad enough to make me nauseous and stay down for hours.
Hi everyone. Just finished Wrong last night and thought Id post to let those of you who need a light pick-me-up read with just a tiny bit of angst to keep you on your toes….Wrong is perfect ….or right.!? : ) Read it and enjoy.
Half way through Rhythm, Chord…and liking it. Not as much as Kulti though.
Grey I am feeling your pain….I hate migraines and there is really nothing you can do but stay still in a dark room until it passes. I always feel totally wiped out for a day after as well. Hope you’re better soon. *hugs*
Michelle S…I’m intrigued. I know not of this series you speak of. Amazoning now.
MichelleS, this will be a gush of a reply, apologies. But so happy you loved Bobby Tom & Gracie!!!! That is going to be my next read—-a re read of it.
Its funny because I asked at Maryse’s review if HD was like a SEP, lol. With her mentions of humor but emotion and quirky town/characters.
Ok, where is Tessa. No way ill keep that series & the ones that interconnect straight and in order. But a general yes. Its a good series. My first SEP was Nobody’s Baby but Mine and it fits in there somehow. I must of been nicer to my heroines cause the premise is whoa. But its good. And another famous football star and she is a genius scientist. Beyond the premise their problems with each other are funny. Though I think it may be a connecting series book.
The first Chicago stars is (look it up) It had to be You. Yes, good book. Heroine takes over the team. Coach does not like it, lol. First time we meet Bobby Tom.
Ok end ramble.:-P:-P
Grey, oh sorry to hear that. Like Maryse Im not sure if my worse headaches (physically ill, must stay still) is an actual migraine. I really do not want to know worse.
I wonder if headaches are hereditary? Seem to run in families.
Bev – I live in Texas, so all of his “aw shucks” and easy style and slow talkin’ was right up my alley. The way he treated all women so nicely… just love it. All of it. Dialogue was fantastic. I just had to pretend it was NOT the 90’s and ignored all the references to peach and green and teal. I miss it already. That’s why I asked about the other books.
MichelleS, they are great books. Some I may like more than others but non I didn’t like. I can pretty much remember a scene from each one & I read most in the 90s. And its nice to see the peeks into other characters. Making me want to re read them all, lol. One does have a controversial scene. Another fun one is Lady Be Good. Its actually golf. But he is from Texas and she is from England. Fish out of water feel.
Ok this is just odd. I just got off work and no one has made a comment in over 8 hours. =-O
Are you all at Maryse’s house having a Canadian thanksgiving???
If so is the food different?
I DVR’d Walking Dead last night and am watching it tonight…I was wrapped up in The Leftovers and The Affair last night then tried to finish Bird Box.
Speaking of BB…I really liked it!! 😀 Not terrifying but definitely creepy with enough intensity to keep me reading. Now I gotta go check out Maryse’s review…
Mmmmm, brownies for breakfast…OMG Tessa, your little dude saying that totally reminded me of the part in Paper Swan where she is talking to the fish and saying something like, “wait for me, Fish.” LOL!!!
Oh Grey, I’m so sorry…migraines are HORRENDOUS. 🙁 I tried Imitrex a while back but kept puking it up (TMI, I know) so now I use Zomig that dissolves under the tongue, and it has been a lifesaver. I’m glad you’re feeling better now!
Shirley, if you check in here…what the heck was up with Cole’s POV last night on The Affair when he went and saw Allison at the guesthouse?? Is he just completely dillusional or did I miss something?!?
Hey Amy! We are at Disney World this week. Sorry, no reading time or TV watching this week. I will watch and catch up first of next week and let you know what I think!
Shirley, have loads of fun! I live Disney World and the adjacent theme parks.
*love
