It’s Friday (YAY US!!) which means a potential full weekend of reading and I have the latest list of new releases, bargain finds AND reader recommendations (even some of the latest releases which they are telling us are tried and true!). Awwwww I LOVE when fellow readers let us know when they love (and find goodies) on these very lists!
Jovanna: I love when you post comments like this that encourage people to provide books they’re reading. It gives me ideas for my next book/series.
Maryse: I love it, too Jovanna! I get to see what everyone is loving and choose my next
Now… for me? THESE recommendations for this latest release (Heart-Shaped Hack by Tracey Garvis Graves) had my heart racing!!! I LOVE this author already, so I knew I’d be reading this one soon, but when some from my very own reading crew told me how awesome it was, I knew I had to move it to the top of my TBR list. So consider this one what I’m currently reading…
Tracie: Maryse, the girls and I just finished reading Heart Shaped Hack by the awesome Tracey Garvis Graves and it was absolute perfection!! Ian is one of the wittiest and sexiest ever and the fact he’s a hacker makes him even more irresistible. Ian and Kate’s banter is off the charts and it’s so funny…until it takes a more serious turn. This is a for sure winner in an awesome book release week!
Cody: I loved it too! Couldn’t put it down!
Tracie: Wasn’t it the best Cody?! This is her best yet by far
Cori: I 100% agree with Tracie! And Cody! This book is a winner! Start reading ladies!!
Maryse: And I just LOVE that author!!!! 🙂
Anne: Just finished Heart-Shaped Hack and really liked it! There’s a little bit of mystery and angst but no unnecessary drama which I always appreciate. Ian and Kate were great together and their relationship was beautiful. There’s going to be a second book but there’s no CH in this first one. A 4.25/5 for me.
Britton: Heart Shaped Hack by Tracey Garvis Graves has been phenomenal. Our book group is reading / has read and it is fabulous!!! We highly recommend. Ten stars from me!!
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

Black Moon Draw by Lizzy Ford <— I SAW THIS ONE SCROLLING ON MY FACEBOOK WALL ALERT! It was brought up because of a fun image “quote/saying” that said something like… someone needed to “write” a book where the hero slowly falls for the reader. HEY!!! THAT’S US!!! And a few piped up and said it had already been written! THIS one!! WHAT WHAT WHAT??? And sure enough… that blurb? UP MOST of our alleys!!!
- Released (Caged Book 3) by Shay Savage <— GASPING & SOBBING ALERT! Tracey recommends it!! “Just finished Caged released book 3 of the caged series by Shay Savage, if I thought the first two books were good I was mistaken as book 3 blew the previous two out of sight I had gasping moments, sobbing moments and sighing moments. Now in a book funk well and truly.“
Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin by Mariana Zapata <— ROCK STAR ALERT & RECOMMENDED BY ME (my review) AND Andrea: “Using the heroine’s own words from the book, I am “blissed out”. 90% into Mariana Zapata’s Rythme, Chord, & Malykhin.” and Nadia: “I loved it!!”

I’m all caught up on that one and as soon as a new book releases in the series, I drop everything I’m reading. First book was the best”

- Cocky Bastard by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland <— THIS ONE MADE NYT & USA TODAY best sellers lists!! Megan loved it! “Awesome story, happy ending!” and Sharon agrees! “A fun quick read with just enough angst.”
Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels Book 8) by Ilona Andrews <— Tiffany Snow (YES THE TIFFANY SNOW) highly recommends this one!! “Magic Shifts, book eight in the Kate Daniels Series by Ilona Andrews. That series keeps getting better and better. Best urban fantasy I’ve ever read.“
- Sustained by Emma Chase <— Darcie loved this one! “Just finished sustained by Emma chase. Loved it! Read it in one sitting!” and Jovanna agrees! “I just discovered Emma Chase. Love her writing style and humor 😀 “
- The Lost: A Crow City Novel by Cole McCade <— JUST RELEASED!! Fabi found us this one! “Cole McCade’s The Lost went live yesterday. It’s supposed to be dark, dark, dark. I can’t wait to read this one too… I really liked A Second Chance at Paris so I’m looking forward to another one. Although, I think this one is going to be dark, dark, dark. Not at all like fluffy ASCaP.”
- Blurred Lines by Lauren Layne <— Cheryl liked this one!! “I also just finished reading Blurred Lines. Loved it. Sweet, minimal not drawn out angst of best friends to lovers. Just wished the ending was a little more drawn out. *sigh* Now what to read next…”
- All of Me by Gina Sorelle <— Jean recommends this one!! “By the way guys, I finished All of Me by Gina Sorelle yesterday and I absolutely loved it! There were some editing issues but not enough to take away from the story. This heroine, Stella, was so strong, sassy, upfront, and completely loveable! And her sisters were all characters in their own right! Highly recommend!“
- Craving Trix: The Aces’ Sons by Nicole Jacquelyn <— BIKER BOOK ALERT and Laura loved it! ” I don’t know if you all know but if anyone likes Nicole jacquelyns craving constellations series she has a new book out craving trix I just read it and it was so good as usual *sigh*”
End of Day (Jack & Jill Series Book 1) by Jewel E. Ann <— Jen LOVED it! “OMG…just wanted to bring your attention to End of Day…so good…like nothing else I have read. Unputdownable (new word?)!!!!“
- Lord of The Isles (Zebra Historical Romance) by Debbie Mazzuca <— MichelleS recommends this one as a “What to read after The Golden Dynasty” option! “have you ever read Lord of the Isles, by Debbie Mazzuca? Same “feel” as GD. She is from our time and gets thrown back in time (not alternate universe, but same idea). Just enough paranormal and a ton of hot action. Loved it.”
- Him by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy <— M/M ROMANCE and back on the list ’cause it’s one of our fav authors AND fabi went nuts for it! “I’ll hate myself tomorrow, but I couldn’t put it down and read straight through. I laughed, I cried…it was so good. Happy tears. The only kind I like in my stories. I’ve got all the warm and fuzzy feels. …I am in a bit of a fog from HIM. …it was perfect for me. Sweet, low drama, good communication, witty dialogue, etc. I’m so tempted to just start it again. I think Elle Kennedy has earned a firm place as one of my favorite authors. I need to read another of Sabrina Bowen’s too.“
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass series Book 1) by Sarah J. Maas <— M’Leea recommends this one BIG TIME!! “I just came across the mention of Sarah Maas… I had been meaning to read her Throne of Glass series, and kept putting it off thinking it is YA and sometime Pg13 can be a little slow-ish. Well, I have been RAVING about ALL of her books since!!!!!!!!! Shouldn’t have waited. Read all her books in a week. Got little sleep. I looooved that her character’s romantic relationships didn’t drive the plot and their sex life didn’t hold the story together. Friendships, courage, survival, absolute strength in adversity with a bit of sass on the side… This is an author whose stories are tightly planned and she delivers each time. She has amazing talent to weave and hide plot elements to enable surprise at that 75-80% mark on the kindle. I cannot rave enough. World building is wonderful – if you love the fantasy genre, you simply must go there.” (P.S. Here’s the series reading order).

Audiobooks for ebook super-sale prices. I’m thrilled with that, and what’s fun is you can flip flop from reading it, to listening to it without losing your spot… This thing is so cool (Amazon calls it “Matchmaker“)! It’s an Amazon feature, that scans your Kindle books and will list all of the ones you have that are also available as an audiobook at a discounted price (not normal audiobook prices). This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL! (This is the “Whispersync” thingie).

Great list, however, I still haven’t recovered from Tuesday’s list!
LOL!!! Poor Ela!!
I’m still reading one from Tuesday. 😉 And then onto Mason and Logan…
All I’ve got to say about that is look at the other post. There’s some love there.
Ilona Andrews… I agree. One of the best UF ever. Strong heroine, Strong her, slow burn romance, awesome secondary characters, great myth, it has everything. Throne of Glass, also agree. I devoured those one right after the other. And, book four, Queen of Shadows, is coming out this month! *squees*
Now going to read Red Queen next. The library finally got it in after waiting for a billion other people to read it. I was the eighth requester when I requested it. And still eight more waiting for me to be done.
Cocky Bastard was a perfect read!! ALL the feels!! Don’t want to spoil anything!! That cocky Aussie stole my heart!! 60% into Sustained and it’s another unputdownable read!! Soooo happy!! Not sure what I’ll read next but KA on Tuesday… No brainer as always!! Happy Friday everyone! Going to comedy club this evening and birthday party tomorrow so my reading will definitely have interruptions!!:((
I know it’s not next weeks release but REYES is on pre-order:
Brighter Than the Sun (Charley Davidson #8.5) by Darynda Jones *drool*
https://www.amazon.com/Brighter-Than-Sun-Darynda-Jones-ebook/dp/B0122RZPJO/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1440780116&sr=1-1&keywords=brighter+than+the+sun
Wow lots of goodies! I am completely overwhelmed! So many coming out in September!
Begging For It…..aren’t we buddy reading that one?
Okay I’m going to post the reading order for Throne of Glass…. this looks exciting!!
And now I know the minute I get a hankering for Urban Fantasy I’m starting the Kate Andrews series. You know… I kinda… I’m very curious that I feel that urge coming on…
YAY!!!! Thank you for the feedback Linda!! 😀
*happy dance*
Oooooh Ela YES!!!!! Another much-loved paranormal series that has been on my TBR list forever.
Oh yeah Jean!! Did we decide on that? I need to read a book a day at this rate. LOL! 😛
Shadow Queen is another one of those Sept. 1 releases. If you end up reading both Kate Daniels and FCH… I’d probably be happy dancing for a month. lol
Tessa, I’m really really liking A Lick of Frost! King Taranis is finally showing his true colors in front of witnesses!!!!!
I have a complaint!!!!!!!!!!! Why are not only this published authors’ books more expensive but NOT AVAILABLE TO BE LENT THROUGH KINDLE????????? THIS IS NOT FAIR! NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE ALREADY HIGH BUT LET US AT LEAST FREAKING SHARE IT WITH ANOTHER READER…..GEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!
Carry on….
I noticed most non-indie books aren’t share-able. I think it has to do with the publisher’s contract with Amazon and other companies. I just went to check a few published books, and none of them are available for lending.
I’ve just finished a string of good books that have kept me up too late at night and and Cocky Bastard was one of them. If you liked The Deal and the other books in that series (which I loved), definitely 1 click this!
And if any of your readers are looking for a book that they don’t need to put a brown bag over the cover (thank god for the kindle, right???), can I suggests you take a look at A. Man Called Ove (pronounced ooh-vuh). This is such a sweet, heartwarming story about an old curmudgeon who will make a permanent mark on your heart.
Jen really want to read End of Day by Jewel E Ann but understand huge ch? This author has become automatic go to for me like KA but want full series. Ugh trying to be patient!!!
Oh ladies, Lily of the Springs…I loved it. It was SO different in so many ways for me. Had it been set in current times, I would have quit reading it and been furious with Lily for being weak and a doormat. But it starts out in the 1950’s in Kentucky, and the values and expectations and prospects for women were just so different in that time, so I had a different frame of mind while reading it which kept me from wanting to shake her. I have a much greater appreciation for that generation of women after this. And the ending was bittersweet but sooooo satisfying.
Dang, first Blue Plate Special (which I LOVED!!!) then FCU (which was a given ;)) and now this one…I love it when I’m on a book roll like this! 😀
By the way, Cheryl and Jean…are Blurred Lines and All of Me part of series and/or have CHs?
Haven’t read Blurred Lines yet, but All of Me had no CH. I really think you will love Stella from that one Amy! 2nd book is about one of her sisters, and they were all so cool!
Ok, if Maryse reads FCH I will start to rec a certain book to her again. Especially if she is getting UF type cravings.
*pushes Charley & Kate out the door*
They are not welcome in the courtyard!
Skippy to Curran.

Chelle Bliss who wrote the Men of Ink Series has a a new series and the first book is on sale for .99 entitled Sinful Intent. I have read all of the Men of Ink Series and one of the few series I would read again!
Guys,
I was thinking the same thing…
I want to read “End of Days” but is there a huge CH? Anyone know how many books? Just two?
I just want a completed series!
:'(
Is that too much to ask???
😉
HAHAHA True. We need to promote WiR. If nothing else, she’d love Skippy.
I think this would be more Curran and Skippy. Lots of love.

Great list Maryse! I am reading FCH so I’ll be busy with that series for a few days. I wasn’t able to read yesterday so I am kinda behind.
I agree about Cocky Bastard. Great read and oh the feels!!
So many great books coming out is Sept! Yaay!
The Aubrey Rules by Ava Ellis is also new. I really liked this author cause her books are light, fun and a little sexy.
Love, Always by Sonya Loveday and Candace Knoebel came out recently also and it sounds like a sweet, romantic read 🙂
Finished Heart Shaped Hack. Did not realize there was going to be a book 2. Ugh!! Glad did not end on a CH, but could see where there is more to the story!
Not sure about the other FSOG books but 50 Shades Freed is $2.99.
In Flight (Up th the Air Book 1) by R.K. Lilley is FREE!!!!
Amy, what Jean said about All Of Me. Blurred Lines is a standalone- Lighthearted, friends to lovers romance, with some angst, but not drawn out.
Your actually going to read FCH maryse O_O oh my……. Anyway I’m reading one of you very old recs maryse a miss nicki styx if you remember her I’m on book 3 loving it!!! That damn sammy!
Jean, is Begging For It, the sequel to Asking For It?
Yep Cheryl
Thanks Jean and Cheryl!
Another question for all of you ladies…what is the title of the book that has a couple facing each other on the front with a carnival type of thing in the background? I’m pretty sure the colors are kind of muted but I could be wrong. Also, I *think* it is part of a series. Any idea?
Amy – is it this one? https://www.amazon.com/Below-Unforgiven-Movie-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00H6FDEYQ/ref=la_B0096MBCBE_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1440802387&sr=1-4
It is a spinoff of the Roam Series (which you may recall was a HUGE Squee for me). Huge. Like really big huge. LOVED THAT SERIES.
Amy – wait – it’s NOT a spinoff of Roam (that was The Fire ballad Series), but it IS by that same author, and I did like it very much. I just didn’t go completely off the rails nutso like I did for Roam.
Jean I want to buddy read Begging For it.
Tessa, that’s so sweet. But I feel like some one should find that dog a safer friend, lol.
Cheryl, it is. Did you read Asking for it, or were you waiting?
Ugh, anyone have Fallen Fourth Down have it available to share with a dear friend in need… *cue big puppy dog eyes!*
Grey, I can try. I don’t know if I’ve lent it out through booklending yet or not. What’s your email?
Fabi, I just sent you a message on good reads LOL!, thank you!
Grey, I think it worked. I’m shocked that one hasn’t been loaned out on booklending. Wow. Let me know if you don’t get it.
Thank you so much! Going to shower and then gonna tuck in, I really appreciate it! xoxo
My pleasure. Enjoy. That’s what I plan to do when I get home from work tonight too. Except I’m going for the chilled wine instead of the shower. 😉
Leaning toward shower and pajamas too. Just not sure if book or movie. I’m falling so behind on reading.
Maryse stay safe!!!
Argh no idea what to read!!! Im in one of those moods where nothing is jumping out at me 🙁 Anyone have any peanuts they could throw my way?
Yes MichelleS! That’s the one, thank you!!! 😀
LaurenB what do you like? Angsty, sweet, funny, erotic, m/m, pnr, YA, NA???
Ugh, I forgot gritty, scary, dark…
LOL
I like everything…not so much m/m though.
Ive read the covenant series, paper swan, undeniably you. RD&M this week if that helps? I pretty much read all genres. Been a bit slack with the reading recently so been trying to catch up on what I’ve missed
Hmmm, maybe some older ones? Have you read Kulti or The Deal?
I have…loved both 🙂
LaurenB, as always Ill say Written in Red. If you haven’t read it maybe read Maryse’s review for Asking for it, looks like we may br the sequel on the first.
If you like fantasy Game of thrones up there is Amazing. But it is what they call high fantasy, I think??
All of Me is nice strong heroine, broken hero fun. And like Jean said great secondary characters.
I also want to say Eyes of Silver Eyes of Gold, just so some one else has read it on here lol.
Have you read Lisa Kleypas?
WiR is a fav of mine…MichelleS recommended it earlier on in the year and I absolutely loved it.
I haven’t read Asking for it yet actually was going to wait for BfI to come out first but I may go ahead and read it in time for the br.
I don’t think I’ve read any lisa kleypas….*trying to think* Was Dreaming of you one of hers?
What’s Eyes of silver, Eyes of gold about?
That’s Kleypas. 🙂
Eyes is a western historical romance that revolves around a marriage of convenience. Much more to it, and really good read.
Ok, dinner. And then decision time. Movie or read.
The movie is Aloha. Has anyone seen it?
Jean thanks!
Bev, I haven’t read Asking For It. Have to read that first before I can read Begging For It with you.
Amy, The Movie trilogy is a series and book 3 is not out yet. I had contacted the author a while back when the release date was pushed back yet again. She said she was going thru an unexpected, difficult divorce and hoped to have book 3 out in the summer. Still no book 3. 🙁
Thank you for that info, Cheryl!
I felt a stab in the heart when I read “unexpected, difficult divorce” in your comment about the author…that description says a lot right there, and my heart just absolutely hurts for her, even with only knowing that little bit. *sigh* Shots, anyone? *raises shot glass of Jager*
*takes shot of Jager* I felt the same way when I read her email and she said she hadn’t been able to write because her heart was healing.
I just can’t find a book I want to read…* sigh*
Damn… Want another shot? ‘Cause I sure do after reading that. *pours two shots and hands one to Cheryl*
Cheryl, I just read Lily of the Springs and loved it…are you in the mood for a throwback-type book like that? It was soooo different from what I’m used to. Oh! Or I could lend you Blue Plate Special! Obviously I’m looking for someone else to share the love of those two books with me. 😉
I’m starting Kiss Me Hard Before You Go…I was looking in my library for the carnivaI cover I mentioned up there when I came across KMHBYG, which also has a carnival in the background. I’m going to hold off on the Movie Book series until book 3 is out, and after LoTS and BPS I’m craving another book set in those time periods (1950’s to 1970’s or so).
Logan is so fun! I love that he’s always laughing. Still need to warm up to Mason but I am only at 34% in FCH.
Anne, I felt that way too when I read FCH. But many switch to team Mason later on while a few of us remain steadfastly on team Logan. Can’t wait to see where you land. 🙂
I read FCH a while ago and memory is hazy. But I thought I remember Logan as being slightly disturbing. Am I remembering that wrong?
Whaaaaat? Logan? Disturbing? Never! Mason is a bit, maybe, at the very beginning of the book. But not Logan. No, no, no.
He’s the comedy. Disturbing? Hrm, that could be Mason or Nate. Both can be disturbing. Logan is the humor. Random bits of, “did he say that?” mixed with pure teenage male humor.
Amy, thanks for the offer. I’m just not sure I’m in the mood for a throw-back-type book. That’s the problem though, not sure what kind of book I’m in the mood for…
Nate, grrrr. Is he really getting a story? I so want Alex to get a story. I like Alex. A lot.
I think Logan has more of a devil-may-care kind of attitude and does what he wants when he wants, and if someone crosses his family then he will go after them in whatever way he feels he needs to. Maybe that’s why you remember him as disturbing?
I’m just glad that it’s not a love triangle situation so I don’t have to choose between him and Mason…we get the best of both worlds with the two of them together! 😀
Weeeeelllll, this is that section…in the one book…
I am seriously loving Logan! Mason is still a mystery but that makes him very interesting.
The only thing that kinda bothers me is that Sam is always running! She is seriously addicted to it huh? They just arrived from a party and its 6:00am and she goes for a long run. Is that even realistic? Oh and I hope Becky ends up with Adam 🙂
I’ll say it’s absolutely realistic. I’m having troubles explaining why, but it’s kind of like Amy reading that one book, and going to run after. It just helps people.
Speaking of Amy… “we get the best of both worlds with the two of them together!” Really?
Oh, it was Adam, not Alex…duh
I had a problem with her running too. Not that I didn’t think it was realistic, but that I thought it was unhealthy, physically and psychologically.
Yeah, it is. That’s the point of it. And… Not giving spoilers. Nope. *goes back to Red Queen* Oooh, book?
Agree with Fabi on the running. I thought we were suppose to see it that way, a coping mechanism that was verging on unhealthy.
See I thought I remember that he had a weird laugh like Dex and his giggle. And protective, yes, but maybe some cruelty mixed in?
“…the two of them together.” <——— Uhhhh that did sound kinda dirty, didn't it? 😛
Yeah Bev, he could be a little cruel in what he would say to others or things he would want to do (like pranks or just getting back at someone), but I don't remember anything that was *too* terribly mean. Then again, it's been a bit since I read the first book so I could be forgetting something…
And yes, running helps tremendously when I’m stressed or upset…poor Sam was taking it to extremes though. 😕
If Maryse reads it next we will have to see what she thinks of Logan. Been awhile but, yeah, I remember more a cruelty, and unstable quality to him than funny.
But it has been awhile.
I can see that about Logan. He’s got a truly dark side, so I can see that totally. Especially when they first greet the new step-mommy.
Finished Red Queen and OMG. It was good. Yes, unfinished series, but really good. Tons of emotions and the end, I didn’t expect. Loved it!
Three books of FCH down and I need a break…..Blurred Lines it is. Thanks for the recommendations.
I am SO looking forward to Kristen Ashley’s book Holding On…already ordered!
Sitting at the salon reading all your comments. I started Undeniably You last night. It’s a light read so far, but I think I remember Amy saying that changes at some point. Definitely a couple laugh out loud moments!
So, who’s in in the for the BR of Begging for It on Tuesday?
I have to say I was a little disappointed in FCU *hiding from Tessa*……..maybe because I didn’t get enough Logan!
Undeniably You starts out lighthearted and so funny, but watch out Jean…angst is just around the corner!!
You, know it might be that I only know him from the first book. So, I don’t know him as well as you all that are caught up on the series.
Tessa, Amy, MichelleS, Michelle, Laura, any of you up for Begging for It buddy read? Jean is. I am.
Jean I’m a little scared of that house.
Oh, definitely read more, Bev. 🙂 He has his dark side, definitely, but the more you read, the more you see the whole Logan.
Jean, it’s alright. I loved it, but you’re going to adore the next one, right? 😛 The one titled Logan?
I’m reading Heart Shaped Hack. While I love the completely witty in-your-face brash commentary the H spits out to the h… I am a little worried about how quickly this all happens. No way would any sane woman think that was charming when she first meets a guy. I’d be running or calling the cops. So the “reality” factor is definitely not there. I’m sticking with it though…. I think…. I don’t know. That Throne of Glass cover up there is calling to me.
Exactly MichelleS!!!
It’s all so fast and they are getting along so well right off the bat and practically dating, and to me… I’m all… WHOA. WHOOOOOOAAAA a minute. He’s a little much (in all respects, especially the fact that he hacks her computer and sees everything she does…). I would have preferred him being more of a recluse considering he appeared as if he was going to be so anonymous at first… I would have loved a bit more intrigue and cautious contact (even from his behalf). He’s so bold and cocky and so I too… am struggling with that “feel”.
However, that said, other readers (some from my trustee crew) are insisting it’s one of the best reads… so I will continue.
After. you read HSH, you should read THrone of Glass. It’s definitely your type.
The other one really calling to me is The Kingkiller Chronicle book 1. Anyone read this series? It’s only 1.99 for the first book. I guess I’m in a fantasy mood.
I’ve never heard of it. Just read the synopsis, and I’ll add it for my next fantasy urge. I’ve been going through a ton of fantasy and PNR kicks lately. However, Red Queen put my into a fog so I had to find something cheesy instead.
MichelleS, no but have wanted to read it. Checked it out a while ago but had to return it before I read it.
Red Queen by Aveyard? I have looked at that one cause the cover is insane, but a bit $$$.
Guys don’t throw peanuts at me but I just finished FCH and didn’t like it. I was having a good time up until 40%. What they did to Sam’s mom was not ok and she just stood there. Also I don’t get people’s obsession with the Kade brothers. Is it because they have money, play football, are good looking? The fascination was a little too much not just from the HC kids but from the town and I really don’t get it. I just didn’t click with the story and characters. I did like Logan at first but thats it. *hides*
That’s fine, Anne. I know it’s not for everyone, but I’m happy you gave it a try.
Tessa I am happy I gave it a try too 🙂
Anne, we never match up 100% in our likes and dislikes. As hard as it can be, lol.
So, you went to highschool and met Tessa’s husband. (For shame, Tessa!)
Now come into the courtyard and pet the ponies.
Some of these books seem like our secret handshake.
Jean, are you doing a totally new look?
I know you are towards the east are you going to have any part of that Tropical storm?
In my defense, he’s 18 at the start of the book!
Anne, that’s happened to me too. I’ll read a book that everyone adores and be left wondering what’s wrong with me because I didn’t really connect with it. It probably happens to all of us.
I’d explain some of the points you made but I feel like we’re starting to get too detailed about the story and its becoming spoilerish.
Let’s just say that there is no such thing as “one size fits all”. 🙂
If that makes you feel better, Tessa. Lol.
But then how old was Travis?
“so I will continue” lol. That sounds like a line from an old letter, one from an explorer going into new territory or climbing everest.
Actually, it can get pretty fun around here because we *don’t* have the same tastes 100% of the time…it makes for good fodder to needle each other with. 😛
Y’all know I LOVE the FCH series. That being said, I always have thought the scene with Sam’s mom in the kitchen and what they did was a little over the top. Other than that I have loved the drama, and the borderline improbable stuff that happens just works for me in this series. 😉
Yep Bev, I’m reading Begging For It on Tuesday!
*tsk tsk tsk* I tried to kick HSH out of the FCH puppy pile the other day but noooooooooo, Maryse just had to hang on to it. 😛
Bev, I’m in PA so not expecting to be hit by the storm. Maryse may be though! Stay safe!
Just got a touch up and a blow out. Have a wedding today. My hair is really curly so I love getting it blown out and all straight and shiny.
I’m starting to get the angst in Undeniably You and I was all like la, la, la….then rut roh!
That sounds about right for UY, Jean. 😉 Have fun at the wedding!
It’s fun to “needle” each other, ’cause we all love each other here. And there are PLENTY of books that I loved like crazy that some of y’all were… *meh* over. And I’m all… what what whaaaaaaaaaat??!!
LOL!!
But for the most part, we have very similar tastes and so it’s fun when we can differ, too. Because this is our safe “book-cubby-hole” and we’ve got Manny the manatee to snuggle with. And Amy making us drinks. And me, swipin’ ’em. 😛
Oh and peanuts galore. Lots of protein! LOL!!!!!
You guys it sounds like the storm is weakening big time, so I think i’m just gonna get hit with a lot of rain. I’m good with that.
But just in case I run out of electricity, I’m making plenty of bread this weekend with my bread maker so I can eat. I have salmon in pouches, and peanut butter (ew… not together!), and sliced cheese and smoked salmon, and fois gras and tomatoes so I’ll just make sandwiches, and make sure all of my stuff is charged so I can read.
I gotta say Maryse, that just about sounds like the perfect weekend. 🙂
Amy – glad you liked Lily of the Springs! I loved it and didn’t want it to end.
That does sound like a perfect weekend Maryse! My husband thinks I’m crazy when I pray for rain on a weekend! Lol!
I’ll probably be MIA the rest of the day……enjoy your weekend ladies!
Enjoy the wedding Jean.
Have fun at the wedding Jean.
Maryse, roughing it with home made bread and smoked salmon. Lol. But stay safe.
I love rainy days. And the west coast needs it. Though not a tropical storm. And i love rain songs, lol.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xM7BRP7uzFk
Yeah I certainly am not dreading it too much, am I? LOL!!! Sammiches with fun delicacies and accoutrements, and reading!! I have my carry-lantern (led lights in ’em so they last a long time) all ready to go, and if even my e-readers batteries die, I’ll just pull out a paperback and continue my picnic. 😀
Have fun at the wedding Jean. I LOVE weddings!!! 😀
Stay safe Maryse and Jean, have fun at the wedding.
I’m with Bev. We do need rain. I see rain clouds today, but that’s just making things humid. No rain.
It is fun to needle each other, since everyone just adores each other here. Also, it’s nice to know that, even when we don’t like something, it’s okay. 🙂 It’s also fun to recommend books and get recommendations. Even if some of us are stubborn about reading that book. Yes, I mean me too! 😛
*snort*
Definitely not talking about me. 😉 I obey ALL of the peanut chuckings, don’t I? 😛
ROFL No!
Maryse, no. Never.;-)

Thinking about it i rec more than i read recs.
Wha?!?!?! Had no idea that Jessica Parks was writing a follow-up to Left Drowning! I absolutely LOVED that book. An all-time fave. So excited to read Restless Waters!! I’m finishing Rule by CD Reiss. Had somewhat of a slow start but then wham. Total shocker. And now I’m so in and dying to find out how it will resolve. Have some theories… but she’ll never lead you to a comfortable zone. Her writing style is just so darn good. Was going to start Heart Shaped Hack soon but after reading the comments above, thinking I’ll wait to hear what Maryse and MichelleS think?
Love you guys! *big hugs*
Jean have fun at the wedding!
Maryse that sounds like the perfect weekend. Home made bread is the best!
Homemade bread, salmon, cheese and fois gras plus a whole weekend of being holed up in the house during a storm? I’m actually jealous. Cars are good for charging up devices as well…not that I’ve ever sat in the car during a power outage to read while charging my iPad. And I know none of y’all have ever done that either. Nope. Not us. 😉
All of our similarities, and even the differences, have led me to find so many incredible books that I probably would not have otherwise read. And believe me, I love to “get” as much as I love to “give”…and I’m talking about “needling” so get your mind out of the gutter. 😛
Paula, I really did love LoTS. I’m still thinking about it and feeling all lovey-dovey towards it, and it’s making it a little difficult to move on to the next book! *sigh* I just loved all the feels, and I was so surprised at the lack of wanting to shake the h when in a more contemporary book I would have felt that way. That ending…bittersweet but perfect.
Any – me too. Agree about the ending – a little bit of me wanted a different ending…
That should have said Amy!!!
Im halfway done with Fourth Down… I can’t decide who I love more. It varies based on the minute. l needed a lighthearted series. I cant believe I think some of the crap they pull is lighthearted in my mind LOL, but there ya have it.
Not sure where I’m going after this…
New favorites list up!
Amy, seriously I need you to read a happier book.
What is LoTS?
And I squirreled temporarily…. and I think I might end up loving it…
At first for a few seconds I was all… ummm…? And then I clued in.
She’s 49, married, bored and she went to see her son at his College and they saw a local band together. But… she became infatuated with the 40-something year old guitar player for that band. And I was all… yeah okay…
But this is starting to twist, my friends. I’m still in the first quarter so I can’t be sure, but I don’t know that this is a love story or not. In fact, this might end up being some sort of psychological thriller, or maybe just a HUGE personal breakdown… ’cause she’s becoming obsessed with him, and it’s totally messing with her.
BUT!!!! I will be going back to Heart Shaped Hack.
I just felt like I needed a bit of a thrill ride… like of the intense maybe “bad for you” kind…
Lily of the springs Maryse!
What are you reading?!
Oooooh WHAT IS Lily of the Springs? Now I have to look it up.
Okay the one I’m reading is on super-sale right now so I had to one-click it. I think it was from Tuesday’s list…
Play for Me: A Novel by Celine Keating: https://amzn.to/1Klyh70
And I really feel her, you guys… like I’m worried and stressed but I can FEEL her.
Lol, why Bev??
Maryse you need to check it out it is a great book!
Looks like I have already 1-clicked that one! May move it up my TBR list seeing as you are loving it.
Um, Maryse?
*Looks around*
Tessa…Amy…….Fabi…jean..
Yeah, think your in the wrong room. You may be looking for the Facebook room.
*kicks the Heart whatever book*
Amy, I don’t know why. I worry.
Oh Maryse, I LOVED Lily of the Springs!! I commented and gushed a bit about it up above…it just affected me so differently because of, I think, the time period it took place in. Things were just so different for women back then, and she tried to do the best she could with how she had been raised and what the expectations were. I would *love* for you to read it and see what you think of it! 😀
Oh, there was a podcast with Sonali Dev, the author and she just read Deeper and loved it and West. It is cute she said that the book, “just made me want to get up and dance.” Lol. Love that.
Ladies, did anyone out there read “Black Moon Draw” by Lizzy Ford? Wanted to get someone’s take on it before deciding if I should get it.
Thanks Much!!
Wait.. we’re in the Facebook room? Man this book really *is* messing with my head.
*snort* 😛
Lol Bev, I was thinking along those lines…she squirreled and didn’t squirrel to FCH? Ah, well, some books are just not meant to be read by some people. I know at least a few have gone by that you guys were raving over and I’m thinking it didn’t sound like my “thing” , you know?
BTW, I’m reading King, and while I liked it at first, I’m at 65% now and thinking the book could could have used some editing and although it tried to be dark at first it really fell off that wagon quickly with the character development. The pace is also on turbo. So…good, but not great for me.
Oh, a walk through a field of Lilies sounds so lovely, after you go back to high school.
😉
Fabi, like Deeper & Sweet Dreams. 😛
Yes, Deeper is the one I was thinking of. But, honestly, I’m going to have to try that book again because I don’t remember a single thing about it, not even why I didn’t finish it.
Sweet Dreams I don’t know. I don’t even know if I read it.
Aw Bev, why do you worry? About me?? I just love feeling all those feels from ugly cry and angsty books…no real reason other than they are addicting to me. You are such a sweetheart.
*blinks* There is no FCH in Play for Me. Now we have that and Heart Shaped Heck to wait until you read FCH? *puts her hands on her hips*
Okay, silly aside, I got Eight Grave after Dark by Darynda Jones from the library, so I’m going to be in a happy story for a while. Well, I’ll be happy reading. You know how it is. She starts off with a crying dead person, but that’s normal.
Amy, since you like those books so much you really should think of the Glass Castle. Wonderful, hopeful, bitter sweet, packs some punches.
*whooooooooops*!!!!!!! 😯
🙄 MY BAD. FCH!
RIGHT!!!! *gasp* 😐
Forgive me? I’ve got A LOT of reading to do this weekend to catch up… *giggle*
All right I’m going to dnf Aloha. That cast & Cameron Crowe. How can it not work? But it’s not.
OH. EM. GEE. 😕
You guys are questioning SWEET DREAMS??!!!!
*thud*
I died.
OMG!!! We should totally trade.
You read Sweet Dreams for MY reading FCH.
Hrmmm?? How can we possibly go wrong?
I haven’t read Sweet Dreams yet. The KA one, right?
Ahhhhh BUT YOU GUYYYYYYSSS
You know I love me some psych-thrillers and I haven’t read one in weeks. So this… this one was calling to me and it’s tickling my fancy.
You KNOW when you’re in the mood for something specific, even though your TBR list says something else is next? You just… you. just. can’t.
Not until you get it out of your system. So the psych thriller potential crazy 49-year old groupie stalker chick is up… and it just keeps getting better. I am SO into it.
Yes yesssssss I know I keep coming back here to chat with y’all, but it’s ’cause I’m having fun!!! 😀
Yep Tessa that’s the one.
bev… Now I have to look up this Aloha, although if you dnf’d it maybe I shouldn’t even bother.
Oh, Tessa & Fabi!! DO it do it do it!!!! I LOOOOVE Tate!!!
I was actually re reading bits of it this morning.
I wanna snuggle with Tate.
Once… a few years ago for my Christmas present, Tate took me for a spin on the back of his bike. For real! Well… for imaginary real. 😉
For once in my imaginary life, I was on the back of someone’s bike. Tate’s of all people. *sigh*
Does that mean I was his old lady for a bit? LOL!!!! 😛
The back of his bike, lol. Poor Lauren doesn’t understand biker talk.
And seriously that cast on paper should ooze charm….but nope. I actually ff to the end and watched some of it going back, do this on occasion with books, and nope. However SPY comes out in Sept. * happy claps*
lol I totally get that. That’s why my TBR has been neglected. PNR and Fantasy only right now, and even then, I prefer the fantasy stuff currently. It’s a mood, I guess.
I love the little quotes with each chapter in these books. They are cheesy but funny. “Irony; the opposite of Wrinkly.” Oh, and yes, I wish this was a Thursday read based on the first sentence. ‘There was a dead tax attorney in my closet, sobbing uncontrollably into the hem of her blouse.’ On Thursday, watch. My sentence will be boring, but now? Saturday? Awesome sentence. lol
Now I’m getting intrigued by Play For Me…
Bev, don’t worry…I still have your rec A Place to Call Home near the top of my list. That should give me some sweetness, right? 😉
Um…*mumbles into hand* I haven’t read Sweet Dreams either. BUT, I do have it sitting on my iPad so that should mean somethin’!
I have an idea…those of us who haven’t read Sweet Dreams will start it when Maryse starts FCH. What say?? Maybe we’ll get another standoff going. *snicker*
No. Noooooooooooooooo. NO WAY!!!
*thud*
*died for real… imaginary real*
I’m with you Amy! I have sweet dreams on my kindle and will read it if Maryse reads FCH!
*snicker*
Okay okaayyyyyyy I see where this is going.
No. Stand. Off.
*puts foot down. Hard.*
I can not handle this many of you not having read Sweet Dreams.
Plus I promised myself I would not rec a certain book to a certain person until said certain person reads FCH.
It’s getting hard. Heh.
Sweet Dreams is my second favorite KA book after TGD. Its amazing and the first book I read by her.
Lily of the Springs is by Carole Bellacera right? Just read the blurb and really like that its set in the 50’s. I think that’s going to be my next read 🙂
Maryse Play for Me sounds like a great read and different! I like that the MC’s are in their 40’s.
OH! And…and…and you SAID you were reading FCH on Sunday!! You did!!!
*fist bumps Paula* We’re on…us with SD for Maryse with FCH!
What was that Bev? *cups ear* What were you saying about no stand offs?? 😛
Sigh lately been reading maybe a book a week if that. Even right now sort of wish there was something I’d like to watch out instead.
*shakes head*
Amy, lol. If it was just you I’d say you would of went for the thrill of the stand off.
I wonder what Fabi is going to think of all this? It may depress her too much. Heh.
Bev that’s about all I’ve been managing too. Too many hours working. I should have worked today too but have spent most of the day reading instead. Ill have to catch up tomortow but I’ll finish King tonight. I’m kind of in the mood for a TV show or movie too. But my TV partner ( my daughter) has a date tonight and I’m too lazy to turn the TV on just for myself.
All what Bev? The FCH thing? Nah. With the thousands we have in our tbrs and new ones coming out every week, its a waste of time to read a book we’re not interested in. FCH obviously doesn’t appeal to Maryse or she would have read it long ago. No sense in pushing the cart without the horse.
All this talk about FCH *whispers* I haven’t read it yet either. Maybe I’ll read it when Maryse reads it. And I know I’m in the minority, in that I thought Sweet Dreams was just ok, too much detail and the story was too drawn out for me. *ducks from peanuts*
Still searching for my next read…
FYI, there is a book 2 after HSH. It doesn’t end on a CH, thank goodness!
*sigh*
It was exciting but once I hit the 35 to 50% mark it’s slower than I like it to be…
I shall continue.
Um, Fabi? Lol. Scroll up. Maryse wants to make a deal with you all.:-P
Maryse. We shall send provisions.
Godspeed.
I don’t see it Bev. I see Amy and (Paula?) trying to make a deal with Maryse. Sweet Dreams for FCH. Is that the one you’re talking about?
Gosh, its like 25 or more up. First she died, for real but imaginary, cause you all did her in. Then she offered the trade. Amy & Paula agreed. Leaves you & Tessa.
But yes, sweet dreams for FCH. Teens for forty year olds.
Fabi have you & your daughter seen Gilmore Girls?
two that I “shall continue”…
LOL!!!!
Maybe I need to squirrel yet again?
*awaits the provisions*
*is dying of thirst*
*has too many peanuts*
Ibsaw that uo there. I honestly don’t know if I’ve read Sweet Dreams or not. I’ll have to dig through my Kindle and Nook.
No we haven’t watched that show. I tend to watch very little TV. It either has to be sci fi or involve music somehow. I can’t deal with “chick flicks” even though I read so much romance, and the only thing I hate more than that on TV is comedy. I’m into the dry witt kind of humor, not the silly slapstick type. Soooo, there you have it. Fabi in a nutshell. hahahaha
Uh-oh. We need Amy. Unless Fabi wants to pour Maryse a glass of wine?
I could potentially figure out how to blend a margarita, except all I have is the blender, ice and salt. :-/
Walk while I decide between movie or book. Anyone watch anything good lately?
Fabi, i love that show so. Great mother daughter duo. But i get you if not your thing. Though maybe one day we can swap eps, might be fun. And unlike a book only 45 min. Just realized, no Friends, Cheers, Arrested Development, Seinfeld? So interesting. Mash?? Obviously i watch too much tv.
maybe just a shot of tequila and lime wedge with the water?
I’m almost done the “Breaking Bad” series and I found it intense, infuriating, frustrating, crazy, insane and especially awesome.
Sometimes I hated it. Mostly I loved it. But all through it I couldn’t stop watching. I didn’t “marathon watch” it, since it’s been about a month I’ve been at it, but it’s SO good that if I COULD have marathon watched it, I would have.
yah bev… blender, ice and salt ain’t gonna cut it. 😉
No Bev I’ve never seen any of those shows. Well, maybe an old Mash when I was a kid.
Here Maryse, I’ll share a glass of my chilled Beringer with you. *cheers*
*mutters “blender, ice, salt, sheesh”*
Lol. Yeah, do not even know what type wine that is, lol.
Maryse totally spoiled on how that show ends. So much about its season ending. But have only heard good things about it.
Are we drinking together?!? WOO-HOO!!!!!! Midori martinis all around!! 😀 OR I have some Patron and margarita mix, Bev has the ice and salt…margarita time!!! Blended or on the rocks? I’m just gonna, er, set up while y’all decide… *sneaks shot of tequila*
“Maybe I need to squirrel yet again?” <—– Hmmm, whatever could you read… *throws FCH peanut*
Lol Amy, you never fail to make me laugh.
Margaritas and wine? Hmmm idk I have stairs to climb to get to bed.
92% King. Man, I can’t believe that just happened. And! I know I have a cliffhanger coming up. I’m tempted to write to this author and give her a piece of my mind. What the h kind of story is this? This is NOT why I read romance.
Oh, and you guys “could” have warned me. hmmph
Fabi, now I’m curious.;-)
Do you all know how hard it is for me not to throw out a certain title for her to squirrel too? Even though I know she wouldn’t, so hard.
Amy, blended for sure. Looks at clock getting late Maryse time, though.
I almost rented Warrior to re watch, so very good. Instead grabbed a thriller but that may be one to watch during daylight. I’m a bit of a wuss.
Okay, this show will definitely NOT be for everyone (especially those who don’t like cheating books/shows) but a good show is The Affair on Showtime. Season 2 starts up soon, and season 1 blew my freaking mind. Holy moly…talk about slow burn and angst, and in a show no less!!!
What makes it different is that each episode gives the same scenes from his POV and from her POV, along with scenes from each of their own respective personal lives, and sometimes the scenes between them are similarly recounted while other times they are so completely different in how each of them perceived those events. The most mind messing part is that it is never clarified which POV is the “correct” one. It also does NOT shy away from showing the devastation and fallout from their selfish decisions. Then there is the added element of the “now” (the affair is in the past) and a crime that is being investigated related to all of them.
It is soooooo addictive, ladies! Like I said, slow burn and them BAM! And freaking hot, too. 😉
Wow. That actually sounds good Amy.
Amy, have you seen Gilmore Girls? They make some choices i hated yet love them and the show.
Besides my thriller I’m going to try the first couple eps of the Knick.
Fabi! Did you NOT see my freak out after reading King?? I was on the warpath waiting for MichelleS to show up here after I finished it because she said the CH was not too bad. Horse. Sh!t. At least Tyrant is out now though. And don’t worry…we’ll carry you up those stairs! We never leave a friend behind. Or on the floor. 😉
Bev…is Warrior the movie with Tom Hardy? OMG, that movie is sooooo good! I always thought that if Tom Hardy were 10 years younger with a buzzed head that he could be Travis. Oh, and he would need to be a tad bit taller as well. But seriously, Tom Hardy is hot. HOT. Even in Lawless.
Okay, Tom Hardy is 37 so he would need to be like 15 years younger to be Travis. But at least I don’t feel like a cougar now that I know how old he is. *snicker*
It really is crazy good Fabi. I could actually binge watch that whole first season all over again. Yeah, it’s that good.
Bev…you know, I have *never* watched that show even though I have heard of it for years. How many seasons are there?
That show sounds really good Amy. Will have to check it out.
I started reading King but dnf. Need to pick it back up. Blaming it on my mood at the time.
I’ll take a margarita on the rocks with a shot of Patron! *yum*
Warrior looks good too!
Amy, the way he played that character. I know he was so messed up & really shouldn’t but you just want to take him home and care for him, lol.
There are seven seasons. A lot, i know. And the last one, to most of us fans as far as I can tell, was not all we could hope for. It lacked Amy Sherman Palladino’s touch. But if you like strong, very intelligent, witty women this has them. Great family dynamics for good and not so good. Great setting, seriously want to live there. Vibrant secondary characters. Slow burn romances. Angst. And hurt. And some wonderful dialogue. Love the dialogue.
I gush when I talk of it.
Amy, I thought your freak out after King was because of the CH. So, I waited until Tyrant came out to read King.
I just finished King. I am so mad. I think there’s smoke coming out of my ears. This is the worst book I’ve read since reading Rainfall.
You guys really have to warn me when a book doesn’t have a 100%, clearcut, happy ending because I honestly can’t handle them.
I had already made myself comfy in bed. Now I’m wide awake and headed downstairs again for a 3rd glass of wine. Ugh!
*hugs Fabi* *hands her the whole bottle of wine*
I don’t watch much TV either. I still have to catch up on Once Upon a Time. The Cruella episode bored me so much I never finished it. :/ I have to, though, because the next season sounds insanely good.
I’m going to be honest. If Maryse is looking for thrills, I don’t really want her to try to read something that isn’t thrilling, even if it’s FCH. You have to cater to your wants, or you are just not going to get as much enjoyment as possible from the book. NOW! When she’s wanting angst… FCH!
Ok, I went to read the GR reviews. I don’t generally read them before reading a book. I am in the minority with my opinion of King, but I am not the only one. Others have expressed my thoughts and complaints much better than I can do so myself.
I agree with that 100% Tessa.
Alright now i have to add a scene from the first scene. More of a YA sweet scene. *shrug*. Makes me smile.

Thank you for the bottle and the hugs. 🙂
You’re welcome! 🙂
Gilmore girls had Jared Padalecki? Crap, I don’t even watch TV, but that little name popping up, I gotta see it.
Yep. He played Dean, lol.
*grins* I adore the irony.
I love Gilmore Girls! One of my favorite shows of all time 😀
Oh Amy that show sounds great! Thanks for the rec!
Have you guys seen Suits? I love that show! There’s something about lawyers that I find so sexy.
Fabi I can’t believe you haven’t watched Friends! Thats my favorite show of all time!
Fabi – I LOVE you reaction to King…. because that’s what books SHOULD be like. They should get us all riled up. Just pretend that you got the first half of the story and read Tyrant. It will wrap it all up nicely for you. I agree that these full stories should be published as such. What happened to putting out a 600 page book? Is that so terrible? You’ll get your ending. I promise!
Does King have a trigger warning? Just from skimming some of the reviews I just wondered if it needed one.
No, I’m not going to read Tyrant. King had so many writing problems that I wish it had been one of my betta reads so I could have pointed them out before it was published.
I’m scratching my head because isn’t this an accomplished author? One who you guys read all the time?
Fabi, this is the one I read. It was indie and I did really like it.
https://www.maryse.net/books/book-review-the-dark-light-of-day-by-t-m-frazier.html
Hmmm the story line sounds just like King.
I don’t know what I’m reading next. I thought I’d start the next FCH this weekend. I also have the new Cole McCade one burning up my tbr. Both are guaranteed good authors for me. But, I just don’t know what I’m in the mood for. Usually, when a CR leaves a bad taste in my mouth I run and hide into a sci fi. Idk, I doubt I’ll have any reading time until tonight anyways.
Ok, I keep jumping from book to book. Just a chapter and then move on and read a chapter or so of new one. For no reason, they are good books. I have 3 that I’m going to choose one from and that one(!) Is to be my read until done.
They are out side my usual genre, palate cleanse.
Anyone want to help me decide? I’ll list them.
Oh yes, I want to see. Especially if they’re outside our normal genre. *curious cat*
Bird Box by Josh Malerman. Horror—definitely outside my norm.
An Untamed Heart by Roxane Gay. One of those that got all the buzz. Thriller type, I believe.
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. YA WWII. Supposedly rips your heart out (gulp) but lots love it.
So I read Play for Me after Maryse went crazy for it early on. I read it in one sitting, non-stop. That’s the good part. I won’t revisit it, that’s the bad part. It was okay. Obviously. I didn’t abandon it. But I don’t feel “satisfied” after having read it. She didn’t get crazy stalker-fan enough. He didn’t get aging-rocker-on-the-road enough. The only one that played her part was the singer/songwriter. And even there, not enough. Still…. I couldn’t put it down. So I am torn. 3-4 stars??? Maryse, what did you think?
Bev, Code Name Verity is the one that grabs my attention. Have you started it yet?
Fabi, have you read Ready Player One. I grabbed it a couple months ago on sale and it was back on sale a few days ago. Scifi so not my usual at all but so many positive comments on the site i saw the sale posted. * shrug*
Nope. It’s been sitting in my library stack. Supposedly good with a great heroine. And what I mentioned above all I know. Tried to stay away from spoilers.
Bev, that one has been on my radar for a while. Thanks for the heads up on the sale.
I was looking through my tbr and I think I may start reading The Legacy Human by Susan Kaye Quinn. It has overtones of Dystopian and it’s YA I believe. I guess you could call it my fall back genre or my go to genre. I know I need a break from CR if I’m going to give the next CR an honest chance.
That does look good Fabi. Luckily it is usually a book fog from a good read that disturbs my next, but yes the bad ones too.
*looks around*
The best thing for me getting out of a book fog is a super cheesy book, a re-read or one I’ve been anticipating. I’ve come across some unexpectedly good stuff on accident when looking up cheesy. 🙂
And for all the Sweet Dreams hold out…. it was my very first KA book. I loved it so much that I went on to read a dozen or more of hers back-to-back after that. Then I read ALL her stuff. Maybe because it was the first KA. I don’t know, but it really stuck with me. I love Tate and Bubbah’s. I’ve reread it 3x. It’s a 5 star read for me.
I’m in such a slump! Go back to Life of Anna? Go back to Heart Shaped Hack? Start a new series (Throne of Glass)? I’m eyeballing my TBR list…. Flat Out Love? Kate Daniels? GAH! I’m all over the place. Just need a solid 5 star read. Have the whole evening to myself. It’s either that, or watch 50 Shades the movie (which I haven’t seen yet). Hmmm……
MichelleS, I’ve no real desire to watch it but I’d also be embarrassed to rent it, lol.
It took all I had to rent Magic Mike. And then didn’t even really like it. The dancing was cool but when they started stripping…*shakes head* lose all appeal.
Like I mentioned on the other thread At Peace was my first KA. Buddy, lol.
That was when she pretty much was releasing everything at once too.
So, quiet. Am i the only one whose imagination starts making up reasons as to why?
Just caught up on comments posted. I am in a book slump too. Finally have time to read and not sure what to read…
Nope. I do the same, Bev.
Me, it’s just not being home. Nothing exciting. When I am, I’m reading. 😛
Tessa, good to know, lol.
Like Jean ran off with the best man, Lionel, in the Cat’s Meow. *tsk*
I think in a bit I’m going to watch Warrior. I fell so hard for the main character the first time I watched it.
Tessa, have you seen it?
I’m curious if Maryse has seen it as Amy pointed out he’d be right up her alley.
I LOVED Warrior and here’s a tidbit.
I crushed on BOTH guys equally. Brothers. Mind you… of course Matt Hardy was my favorite but he’s a hot mess in that movie… and his brother was very cute in his own way.
I loved it. Very interesting climax. LOL!!!
*pout* I haz a sad… I just finished Fallen Crest University…
*taps microphone* is this thing on? *feedback squeal* My name is Grey… and *sob* I am a marathon book reader.
I feel safe here… admitting that I am going to be in a massive book hangover. I hate it… I absolutely hate that I get so dang wrapped up into series, *see above confession* and the fact that I have read all of the FCH books in a matter of a few days…and then… *poof* I have to wait months until more come out. I mean, FCU isn’t a typical cliffy. Things are wrapped up enough so that the book has an ending and I’m not like I was at the end of King wanting to throw my kindle out the window. But yeah… I am now all keyed up and have been scrolling thru my Kindle (and over a thousand books) and have NO idea where I’m going now.
Who’s got the wine? I saw mention of tequila and Patron… and more blasted peanuts. I need new peanuts… *giggle*
And done. I love Charley Davidson books. I got so caught up, I didn’t even put that I was reading it on Goodreads. Also, major game changer book, which are either awesome or sucky. This one was awesome. 🙂
*hugs Grey* Here, a nog bottle of Patron. I hate tequila. so you can keep it. Did you ever choose which guy you liked?
Nope, never saw Warrior. I had to look it up just to see what it was about. :/
Alright. *gets on soap box* I don’t care that models on book covers need to change. That’s a reality. I don’t care when some things make no sense, but are added to define the genre (looking at you, Harry Dresden with the ‘where dd the hat come from?’ hat). I’ve seen hair color changes that don’t make sense. However, I got Spider’s Trap from the library, and she looks 18, max! If that. She’s still losing her baby fat on her cheeks and looks wide-eyed petrified. *shakes head* Scary Assassin and they show her petrified. *gets off soapbox* That is all.
Maryse, he was a hot mess. But damn, lol.
If we could have that kind of story in one of our books it would be great. It would have to be a very slow intense burn for him to be ready, plus all the fleshed out family relationships.
Very surprised ending.
One of my favorite movie romances is in a fight movie.
“ADRIAN!”
Tessa!!?? WATCH IT!!! I don’t think I’ve met someone who has that hasn’t liked it.
Just heads up i will probably be on here talking about it.
I suck at actually watching tv. Have for years. Again, I have four episodes to watch from Once Upon a Time that ended in May. Never did see the second half of Bitten. The only shows that I watch that I actually managed to watch until the end of the season were Game of Throne and Supernatural. You think I can watch a whole movie?
That’s me too with TV/movies Tessa. The last two I watched, one was a dnf and the other I bet I got up to do other things four times during the movie.
I’d never heard of Warrior either. I looked it up and it sounds like one of our fighter books. Yummy
Tessa, this one you will. Seriously give it a shot.
I’m much better at tv than movies. A lot of movies I rent i never watch, though I used to love them. I swear the internet has warped my attention span.
hahaha Bev, maybe that’s what happened to me too. I can hardly sit through a movie unless I’m at the movie theatre.
I figure at movie theaters, I’m trapped and have to watch it. On the tv? Nope. Not happening.
I did watch Insurgent, but let me point out, I’ve read the book and was reading through most of it. lol
Yup, if I’m.at home I’m constantly picking up my phone, checking email, playing games, wanting to read.
I’m flying through The Legacy Human today. Haven’t been able to put it down. I think I’m at 75% already. Have you read it Tessa?
That scene when the dad goes to tell Brendan about his 1000 days and Tommy. Ow.
Jean needs to motor on back. Tommy is just her type of character.
I just realized the wife is Emma Swan.
Never heard of it. 🙂 I just looked it up, and it sounds good. It’s wishlisted, as it’s a KU book, but it looks good.
Ok, i really do not like violence of any kind irl, but love this scene.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D2fPMDHDjM1A&ved=0CCUQtwIwA2oVChMIu_XQ_cPSxwIVUTmICh1HfwoK&usg=AFQjCNG4xsRvTmRmZgs2HBJssfNQUdB9fA
Final fight. Which is so great and yet not easy at all. The one I’m not looking forward to rewatching, lol.
So very very good!! Honestly a long movie that never feels that way.
Any who have watched it don’t you wish you could see more of after and wonder about the money?
Also, I think I’m just a grudge holder but I totally get why Tommy is so very angry at Brendan. I’d of been too.
Ok I’m done talking of it now. 😛
I’m with the rest of you… not much of a TV watcher. I do watch Game of Thrones, but even that, I DVR and watch when I want, not on the day it comes out. I watched Outlander the same way. I started to watch Grimm years ago, and then abandoned it. Same with Vikings. And Once Upon a Time. I used to be one of those “Lost” people. I loved that show. Back in the 90’s I watched Seinfeld and Friends and was addicted to Star Trek next Generation (with Picard).
I went with Life of Anna on my “get me out of my slump” search. Man. Why do I read this stuff? Sooooo disturbing. Devin is evil.
Ooohhh, which one are you on now? I need to get back to it too. Devin could give the Devil pointers.
Finished Undeniably You today. Wow, my emotions for this book were all over the place! I loved it, loved him, hated it, hated her, then loved it again, then hate, then, sigh…..yeah, I think I really liked it. I think someone said here yesterday, isn’t that what we want in our books…that emotional rollercoaster and feels? Yep, I got that from this one!
By the way bev, I didn’t run away with the best man on The Cat’s Meow! Lol, that was funny!
Jean, well something is up. No Michelle, no Laura, No Amy, No Ela, No Tessa (today) or Cheryl.
So……..lets talk about them.
😉
Fabi – Which Life of Anna am I on? It would be the 4th book if I go that way. Book 3 just about killed me. Someone asked about triggers? It is like Anita Blake with sexual partners, add in some Tied Man for sick abuse, then mix in some sicko stuff that doesn’t exist anywhere else. You know how you guys made me read Acheron? well… what happened to him is a cake walk compared to what happens to Anna. just sayin’
Won’t be able to start Begging until later tomorrow. Maybe chocolate for dinner, that book may call for chocolate, lol.
*reads Bev’s ‘let’s talk about them’ comment*
I thought my ears were burning. 😛
Guess what Bev, I’m reading a sweet book…Kiss Me Hard Before You Go. No angst or drama (so far), slow buildup, and no crying. 😉 She doesn’t have any good comebacks during their banter so she tells him his face is stupid. It’s making me grin like a loon.
Amy I’ll have to look that up. I love those books you grin through.
I was here once! Um, on the other thread. 🙂 I finished Spider’s Trap. *grins* Not the best, but it’s setting up. I love the series.
Alright, now where has everyone been today? Is everyone just in mourning for Wes Craven or something?
I’m mourning my loss of Logan and Mason…
I know. It’s sad. They were sexy beast, but, sadly, they have left us for the greener pastures of the author’s mind. *puts a hat over her heart*
I had been working on some theories like about Jean. Or that Amy had left everything behind to live in Paris and follow her dream of professional interpretive dance. That you, Tessa, had run off to sea with little dude to become the next Jacques Cousteau.
That Fabi decided to sit down and watch Warrior.
*shrug*
Was anyone else scarred in childhood by Freddy Kruegar?
*hand in the air* I was. The Nightmare on Elm St movie with the waterbed…holy crap…
I was, Bev. Actually mentioned it about a week ago on one of our posts. I HATE horror movies. I watched it in middle school, and it scared me so badly. I couldn’t sleep. I asked to sleep with my mom! Hate Freddy Krueger. I still don’t watch scary movies.
I’m petrified of him. I’ve never even seen the movies. Nope, not doing it. I saw one scene on accident, and that alone scarred me. I can’t handle unrealistic horror. Those are the nightmare inducing ones for me. Random human killing people, not scary. Doll coming to life to kill me? NOOOO!
I haven’t been able to read anything these past few days cause I had family visiting but tomorrow is back to reading. I am so behind!
Oh and I really don’t like scary movies. I remember I was like 13 when Scream came out and I couldn’t sleep for like 2 days! Lol
He was terrifying. And the fact that he came in your dreams. *shiver*
Hahaha Bev, thanks for the exciting make believe life you imagined for me. Sadly, you’re not far off the mark. :-/
Tessa, me too! I can handle human crazyness, but give me anything unrealistic like dolls, demons, aliens, ghosts, etc…and I hudle under the blankets like a baby. Horror is not for me, nah ah, I’m too scared to watch it.
Lol, Fabi. It would be exciting for me if you watched it.
I actually was able to see Scream only after seeing I Know What You Did Last Summer. IKWYDLS was a book first by Lois Duncan that I had read, so I knew that was safe. Then my niece told me that Scream was the same, just a human murderer. lol I ended up watching that, no nightmares. However, creepy breath-stealing goblins invading your home… NO!
I have a Jacques Cousteau kind of life? Awesome.
Is it bad that I’m actively glancing at the clock, hoping it turns to nine soon? Sad part is, pre-orders are almost never exactly on time.
I did see another horror movie that seriously creeped me out. It was that one where they watch “the tapes” and she crawls out of that well. Can’t remember what it was called. trying to block it out of my memory. Lalalalala. Think happy thoughts….
Good Morning!
I won’t be able to start Begging for it until like 5. 🙁
Seriously why are book release days on Tuesday? Tessa are you already halfway done?
MichelleS, I’m hearing mixed reactions to Hold On. I’m holding off for now, are you going to read it?
The Ring MichelleS…that was so creepy! I love horror movies, but hubby doesn’t and I’m afraid to watch them alone!
I went to see Scary Movie 3 that was a spoof of the Ring for Halloween one year. It took me weeks to get over it. I would literally run across the living room to the door to avoid the TV.
Bev, not yet. I got into the book that was supposed to be cheesy instead. I started it to get over a fog, dropped it because it wasn’t cheesy enough to get past the fog, and then thought, it’s a few hours before Begging for it becomes available. *sighs* I swear, if it has the term Stepbrother in the title, it’s supposed to be cheesy, not engrossing! The only issue the book has is the H is super immature when he’s angry. Also, that the whole step thing is an issue when the parents meet when you are in your twenties. *rolls eyes*
Morning, ladies! Well, it’s still morning here on the West coast. Aaaaaand now I have the Lana Del Ray song West Coast in my head…
Begging for it popped up early in my library last night, so I’m only about 15% in…too soon to have an opinion, but I did have to go back and refresh my memory a bit on Asking For It. I guess it was one of those books for me that I loved but I didn’t hold on to a lot of the details, ya know? Especially one BIG detail about Jonah. *snort* 😛
Movies that creep me out…anything that has to do with ghosts or spirits or demons. Holy crap, that stuff terrifies me! I’m always afraid to walk around the house in the dark after watching those. Probably stems from some seriously disturbing stuff I saw in our first apartment. I swear, that place was possessed. And no, this isn’t me being dramatic and exaggerating…we ended up moving because I was so freaked out, despite the fact that we had no money and couldn’t really afford to be moving from place to place back then! Sheesh, nearly two decades later and I still get anxiety thinking about that place. 😕
Amy!
I must know details of these creepy apartment stories. I LOVE GHOST STORIES. The love ones, of course, but even more… the creepy ones. Especially true ones.
I think I need to reacquaint myself with Asking for It too before starting Begging for It.
I actually stayed Hemy last night, the 2nd book in the Walk of Shame series and I love it! The sex in these books is waayyy HOT!!!
Jean, I’ve read Slade but not Hemy yet. Sounds like I need to put that series a little higher on my tbr.
Yep, I’m really loving Hemy and Cale is next. He’s mysterious and not interested in womanizing ways!
Do you think I need to reread Slade first? I don’t really remember it other than I liked it.
No you don’t have to reread Slade. I remember liking Slade, but not specifics and I didn’t need to, so go for it Fabi! I’m trying not to squirrel from BR Begging For It, but I might have to read Cale real quick. They are short and easy reads and I am completely intrigued by him!
Bev – you’ve heard mixed reviews? oh boo! That was supposed to be my sure-fire read this week. I LOVED the Burg series. But that was also when every book by KA gave me “the feels”. I pre-ordered it, so there is no reason to hold off. It’s sitting there. Waiting.
Walk of shame series is bundled at the moment (all 3 books) on amazon and only AU$4. Also has bonus chapters.
I just saw your comment…you want to know the story? Okay then…and I swear on my polish collection and makeup this all really happened…
I started seeing these glowing, shapeless blobs moving around every now and then, sometimes flipping end over end like a Slinky, other times just kind of hovering and then moving upward, and they were always in our bedroom against the wall or in a corner. Creepy as sh!t and would make me hide under my blanket, but I just tried to ignore them for the most part.
After that had been going on for a couple of months, I was outside talking with my neighbor one night when the light flipped on in the bathroom at the exact second that the porch light flipped on. The light switches were no where near each other, and no one was inside as my hubby was working a swing shift. When I went inside, both switches were indeed in the “on” position.
THEN, not long after that I was in the bathroom in the middle of the night with the light off so I wouldn’t wake up my hubby, and I felt this burst of air against my ear as if someone had just puffed a breath on me. What did I do? Screamed and tried to jump off the toilet but ended up doing a face plant ’cause my pajama pants were down around my knees.
The final straw was when I was heading into the bathroom in the middle of the night (again) with the light off (again) and something seemed to hit the blinds over the window, like if you were to throw a ball at it from the INSIDE. Seriously, the blinds moved and it made a lound bang against the glass. TMI but I p!ssed my pajama pants and ran back to our room to jump under the covers with my sleeping hubby, wet pants and all. Welcome to married life, babe. We moved right after that.
Good lord, I have goosebumps right now just remembering all of that! *shudder*
Ooooooh AMY I LOVE your scary ghost story!!
I know YOU don’t… ’cause you lived it, but I get a secret thrill reading stuff like that on the internet… I believe that stuff exists.
Like I said when I came back from the RT signing in Dallas, I caught an orb moving with my naked eye in the haunted hotel in HER room… (the ghost’s room) and it moved fast when my flash went off, I saw it… it moved with purpose, like I startled it (and then my camera took a photo of the actual orb in motion!!)
That was AWESOME. It’s one thing to see photos online and wonder if it’s just a “dust speck” or light reflection, but when you actually see it move… not “float” but MOVE… that is something else!!!!
Oh and the girls I was with (one of them was author Amber L. Johnson (Puddle Jumping) were out in the hallway near the room I was in, and they heard a door slam loud and clear on that floor (caught it on video – the sound anyway), and the thing is, we were the ONLY three up there… the floor was closed for eventual renovations and so… it was deserted but for us ghost hunters.
And don’t even get me started again on the electrical clicking noises in HER room the night before when we were ghost hunting with a few authors and the hotel manager… we ALL heard that.
Oh Amy, I was just about to doze off. Now I’m scared to close my eyes. Has that ever happened to you anywhere else you’ve lived?
No. No. No.
*hands over ears*
La la la la laaaa
Nope, thankfully it has never happened at any other place we have lived in. But to this day I have to have a nightlight on in the bathroom ’cause I don’t EVER want to take the chance of seeing, hearing or feeling anything like that again!
*pulls Bev’s hands away from her ears* BOO!!!!!!! 😛
Amy I swear the last house we lived in was haunted. The microwave would turn itself on at random times…like the middle of the night! It would totally freak me out when I was home alone. And lights in the main bedroom would flicker and dim at times. My husband would hear loud footsteps along the timber hallway, thinking it was me, only to have no one there when he’d look. We found out the previous owners wife had died there. Too spooky.
Actually, I love reading and watching TV shows about ghost stories…it just wasn’t cool when all of that was happening to me!
Did you post about those things happening??? Because if you did then I totally missed all of that! See, that sort of thing is actually fun when you have other people there with you or if you know you can leave at any time (like with a hotel room). In my own home? *rapidly shakes head*
You know what would be so freaking fun? Visiting some of the haunted places from the EIT series here in the Pacific Northwest!! I would LOVE to find out from Karina Halle if there was any basis in her choosing those places (as in, if there has been reported spooky activity) and then go there and check them out. Heck, I would even go camping on D’Arcy Island just to say that I did that! Ooh, and I want to find out if that carousel from Mud Vein really exists and go there too! Hey, I may be a dork but I OWN it. 😉
Er, I guess I could also just Google the EIT sites because, ya know, that would be a bit easier. 😛
