Michele G: Just finished “listening” to the audiobook for Daisy Jones & the Six yesterday. (I’m apologizing to those of you who I’m on FB & GR with…just ignore me because I’ve already spewed my incessant love for all things DJATS there) I read an ARC of it in January and adored it! But can I just say that this audiobook is on a whole different level — it is unbelievably amazing!

Lisa: anyone on the fence about Daisy Jones, I highly recommend it. I loved the style it was written in – and I’m not much of a rock star storyline reader, but found myself engrossed.

Jen C: Did you guys see – Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid is the March Pick for Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine bookclub!? AND they’re turning it into a TV show!! :O :O

Denise: I’ve read the book and listened to the audio. Loved both, but the audio was absolutely freeking fantastic.

Robin: This was also a great book on audible. Probably the best I’ve listened to. The narrators (there are a few) did an exceptional job.

Monday Early Bird Book Releases – 12-30-2019

<— HAPPY MONDAY & MADE EVEN HAPPIER BECAUSE OMG LOOKIT WHAT’S LIVE YOU GUYS!!!!! The Wives!!!! I think the whole day should be a mass-buddy read (though I’ve read it, so I’ll be living vicariously though all of your guesses and freak-outs).

Marta: Is it as good as C.Hoover “Verity”?

Maryse: Yes!! I loved it as much. Totally different story altogether but amazing creep-factor and kept me guessing the whole way to the very end. AND OMG LOVED IT!! Here’s my Book Review.

Wendy: Was an awesome book!! Didn’t see any of it coming!!

Three Things:

1.) I one-clicked that super-sale a couple of days ago and I’ve started it! “Red, White & Royal Blue: A Novel“!! LOVING IT! Makes me chuckle and gives me the warm and fuzzies of happy reading time. I love when I feel like this while reading.

2.) I discovered I could “roast” a ton of different vegetables in my air fryer (<— This is the exact one I have). Instead of using the oven today – it was already busy cooking a casserole, I sliced up some sweet potatoes, drizzled them in olive oil, salt and pepper, and roasted them at the highest temp for 10 minutes and they came out PERFECT!!!! Like all toasty crispy brown on the outside, and deliciously moist and perfect and sweet on the inside. I also roasted my Ina Garten Brussel Sprouts in there today too, and they came out wonderful!! YAY AIR FRYER! 😀

3.) So… I have a head of cabbage. I got it from one of my Misfit Market veggies boxes a couple of weeks ago and it’s still in my fridge… just sitting there waiting for me to create something from it. Thing is, I’m not the biggest cabbage fan. I like it when it’s St. Patrick’s Day and we make corned beef & cabbage, sure… but in the grand scheme of things, what the heck should I make with this thing? Luckily, kept whole and wrapped, they can last weeks in the fridge… any ideas before it digests itself in my fridge?

Enemies by Tijan

Slow burn enemies to lovers – great characters. Hero is swoon worthy. Great college romance. Will love this one if you liked Elle Kennedy. GR 4.3

ABOUT THE GENRE

I’ve always loved a good faerie tale. I should probably specify what I mean by that — as much as I enjoy Disney movies (who doesn’t?), I’m specifically talking about old school faerie tales like Tam Lin and The Goose Girl. These stories always had a kind of dark, sinister edge to them, but most of the time you could still expect to see the heroes off to happily ever after.

As an adult, I naturally went looking for some modern faerie tale romances… but there just aren’t enough! After gobbling up some Holly Black and a few other authors, I ended up at loose ends, and finally decided to write my own dark, modern faerie tales.

ABOUT THE BOOKS

Each book in this series has a slightly different flavor to it. Because I make prolific use of old school faerie tale elements, you might catch glimpses of plot elements that remind you of certain faerie tales, but don’t quite fit into any single retelling. Both Crown of Frost and Crown of Glass have elements from The Snow Queen, while Crown of Briars definitely winks at Sleeping Beauty once or twice.

MUSICAL CHOICES

Music is so important to my writing, I’ve got at least one playlist for every book I write — and I’m constantly searching out more to add to my library! P.S. I just found THIS fun fact, right off the author’s Facebook page that made me giggle (and get excited since I’m from Montreal too!!). In fact, I’m giggling throughout her Facebook page as she reveals her own personal “Montreal life” snippets (that I can TOTALLY relate to). She’s so funny!!

But regarding her writing process and this series she said:

My puns! What shall I do about my precious puns?!

While writing today, I have stumbled onto an interesting train of thought. Just like Crown of Briars, Crown of Whispers is set in Montreal, where bilingualism is the norm. Certain scenes only make sense when you understand that someone has switched from English to French in the middle of the conversation. For instance, some of you might remember the line: “I have been fished?”

I’ve sometimes contemplated translating my books fully into French for release in other countries. How on earth would THAT work?

I’ve also got the very special problem of portraying when characters switch languages, when everything in the French translation seems to be equally “in French.”

“I don’t know” and “Je ne sais pas” signify different languages in the original version. In a French version, they would both just be “Je ne sais pas.”

It’s such a strange thing to get my brain around. 🤔 I feel like someone must have run into the problem before now, though. I think I shall dub this the “Bon Cop, Bad Cop” singularity.
