Be aware that once the story line hits Rafael de la Cruz, the Carpathians are no longer honorable. He uses his powers in the same way a date rapist uses a roofie, to first sexually assault and then roughly rape his ‘lifemate’. There is little concern in him for her health or happiness, only for himself. He may change later (I’ll never know as the book hit the trash as soon as he raped Colby), but that doesn’t change what he did. I find it unlikely that his brothers are going to be any different. I wish Feehan had kept them honorable. Now they disgust me.
this is coming from sm1 who survived sexual abuse and trafficking as well as severe domestic abuse: the entire book all she talks about is how bad she wants his sex but nothing more. Even as they are in the aftermath of the first event she’s realizing that she wants more. The idea that they are ethereal and otherworldly is supposed to be portrayed through their animalistic drive to take their women. Colby was ignorant. If she would have simply merged minds with him and saw he wasn’t lying and that he loved her, he could have changed her from the get go and Paul wouldn’t had been attacked. Its stupid bc Colby is an unnecessary asshole so she can keep her power trip. She blames it on the kids but she lets Rafael almost die multiple times for her “pride”. This isn’t anything like being roofied trust and fking BELIEVE it’s nothing like rape. It’s an animalistic creature waking up to realize that he has a reason to exist and it’s not his fault that she’s not able to see they are two parts to a single soul. It’s almost evil how she lets him suffer.
Take it from sm1 whose been drugged and raped.
I’m sick of hearing a FALSE reality of creatures that don’t exist get compared to human monsters. It’s not anywhere near the same. She wants him. She calls to him. She denies it but she does. Nothing about being raped was a signal to the monster. I didn’t have my soul calling to his. I didn’t belong to him. I wasn’t a thing that he would own and then protect and honor with his existence. I was a shard of flesh that he chewed up and scattered to the wind after he was finished. I was passed like a toy that was treated unbreakable. When in reality I was beyond broken. I was irreparable. Get off yr high horse. It’s a fantasy that steals some of us from our true real life horror. It holds my PTSD at Bay. And Everytime I see sm1 like you writing shit like this I realize how it’s nothing for ppl to take from the rest of us. You’ll cancel air if it offends you. Well not this one. These books are gold. They are an adventure. They are a secret getaway that lets me steal away from myself. The idea of another creature that would kill and suffer for a woman that simply never fit right in the world of humanity. That just couldn’t squeeze into the suburban wife mode, that is beautiful… The ones that were mocked bullied abused twisted scarred brainwashed alone afraid… mutilated. They get forced to feel. Forced to take the love that was designed for them. Just for them. Bc the shit they endured has made a wall that they can’t overcome on their own, these creatures, their life mates, they do it for them. Knowing that even if they are scared and don’t understand they will be stronger, faster, and better for it. They will survive and be loved in ways that can only be conjured in a mind. And your Karen Cancelations aren’t destroying that for me..
I loved this book. Just finished it. March 28th 2022. Today. I loved how he never gave up. You later find out why she was t as affected as most women by the separation of him. But I won’t ruin it for others

I absolulty love these books. I just finished my collection of the dark series I’m for the first time reading it from the first to her latest book. Then off to collect the rest of her others series. 2 down (dark, n ghostwalker) just the drake sister series n the sea haven books left to get.

Love, love, love the Dark Series. My husband bought me Dark Hunger for.Christmas. I’d been in kind of a reading slump and didn’t know where I.wanted to go next. I read the book and OMG….headed to the library and my kindle and all in the series in a couple of weeks. Then went to the Leopard Series. I struggled at the beginning, nothing could compare to the Carpathians, (oh my the ritual words just make me “swoon”) but by the end of the first one I was eagerly looking forward to the rest. I’ve started the first book in the Drake Series and the Ghostwalker Series and they will be ok. I stubbled on this blog by accicdent and I’m in heaven. I put down what I was reading and gave started The Black Dagger Series and I’m glad I did so far I’m lovin Thor!!

Oh there are so many Ekta, the Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward, The Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian, The Demonica series by Larissa Ione, The Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon to name a few, they should tide you over until Dark Wolf hits shelves in January!
Dominics book is Dark Peril. After Dark Wolf is released in January, Dark Blood will be released in September. Dark Lycan, Wolf and Blood are a trilogy and are showing some exciting new storyline for lovers of the series. Joie and Traian’s story can be found in Dark Descent.
@Sandi, I urge you to continue the series. Dark Secret is the subject of many heated discussions but after that book they do return to the romance. There is some more actiony type books but they do go back to the romance as the older Carpathians are finding their lifemates. There are some stellar stories after Dark Secret. Please do not let one book ruin a fantastic series.
Tina have already read J.R ward Black dagger brotherhood. Yes but have not read the other series so will go with your advice. I hope they are as interesting as dark series and brotherhood series. Thanks dear.
EKTA- I,too, would like to share some suggestions. JR Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood and J R Ward- Fallen Angels series. Nalini Singh, Guild Hunters and Psy-Changelings series ( Nalini is my favorite author and I love her books!!! ) Mary Lu – Legend, I agree Dark Hunter Series , I have only read Styxx and Archeron and I loved them both. Now I have to go back and read the rest! This series I found Dark Slayer at the library and I am now working my way through this series. Psy- Changelings I started with Hawks story then had to start from book one. Guild Hunters I started from book one, same with BDB and Fallen Angels by J R Ward.
I’m commenting on the comment about Rafael and Colby. I, personally,did not see it as rape nor do I think Colby did either.Rough passion does not always equal rape especially if both partners are okay with it.what book did this Sandi read , I’ve read almost the whole series including rafael and colby’s and in that one colby was into it as much as rafael.
I have all of the books that are currently available in this series with my purchase of Dark Prince from the Big Lots of all places. Im currently getting ready to start Dark Secret and Im absolutely addicted to this series! After reading Dark Prince in less than a day, I went searching for the rest of the books and got them from Amazon, with the exception of Dark Lycan and Dark Wolf which I picked up at Wal-Mart. I can only hope that Ms. Feehan continues this series as novels that tell the complete story off all the characters involved in the first book appeal to me greatly.

Andre does not have a lifemate. Hopefully we will see his story soon as he has been mentioned in a few books recently, along with the triplets.

I have all the books and totally luv the series. For anyone looking for the books, I found them at Walmart.com they have all of them. As for Raphael and daterape I don’t think so, but I am going to read it again. I am very sensitive to such things. As far as I remember the only spell was the love she felt when she looked in his eye’s just like all the lifemates.

I got hook on the Dark series when I exchanged books with a friend and one was the Dark Prince , ever since then I have collected as many from second stores as I can find. From the ones couldn’t find , I ordered them from B&N. I now have the complete set . I am looking forward to the new one coming out in Sept ( Dark Ghost) which I have already prepaid for it.
@myrdis BDB is an acronym for JR Ward’s series Black Dagger Brotherhood. A gritty, hot series about a brotherhood of vamp men who hunt and kill “Lessers” men and women created to kill vampires. Very addictive and sexy series.
@Marilyn On the 4th of August an anthology comes out called Edge of Darkness. It has a novella called Dark Crime which introduces a new Carpathian couple and will hopefully reveal some more about the psychic database mentioned in earlier novels.
