Lynn Viehl’s “Shadowlight” starts a new series involving a group of people called “Kyndred”. The Kyndred appear to be humans with a special power (for example, one who can sense a person’s future with a simple touch, one who can physically transform herself into someone’s true love, one who can control the weather etc…). The majority (at least from what we gather in this book) live and work amongst the regular human population, but hide their abilities. A few have found each other on the Internet, and while they do not ever meet (for fear of being tracked down), they chat regularly in an attempt to support each other and possibly discover how they have become this way.

Book Review – Dance with the Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Dance with the Devil (Dark-Hunter)
I am behind in my reviews again. Shame on me because this series is SO much fun, and they should absolutely be discussed. Unfortunately I like them so much, that I simply start the next in the series instead of reviewing the one I just read. I’m actually already reading Night Play (Book six), and am already hooked. That’s the thing about this series. Each book catches me from the start, and I don’t find my attention waning (as it sometimes does when I start a new book).

Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, Book 3)
Wow! I really see what all the fuss is about! This series is fantastic, and anyone that is tempted to judge whether to continue with the whole series or not, from the first book, shouldn’t. While I enjoyed the first book, and was happy to see the characters from the first book continue on through the series, the series most definitely took a more serious turn.
I’m not sure how many will agree with my opinion here, but, I think it’s fairly obvious that if you’re looking for a series similar in tone, to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series from J.R. Ward, this is it! The characters are rich, and all are interwoven in some aspect. Each book allows us to experience the connection between an amorous pairing, but better yet, we are offered the intricate stories of the many characters’ pasts that has ultimately lead them to their current situation. The continuous growth and wisdom that develops through the centuries, for each Dark-Hunter, makes for an alliance of members that complete each other.
Book Review – Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, Book 2)
Book two changes in tone slightly, from the first book. While the first was more of a “guilty pleasure” involving two people indulging in each other (a romance novel with a paranormal twist), this one initiates us to a darker world, where humanity is constantly at risk. While the romance aspect of the story is forefront, we are taken on a dark journey through good and evil, and introduced to many key characters to come.
In the Dark-Hunter series, humans have a false illusion of safety, while evil rules in a parallel actuality right here on Earth. Night creatures called “Daimons” (soul sucking vampires) rule the darkness, and steal the souls of humans to extend their own cursed, short lives.
Latest books on my “To Read Pile”:
I have finally acquired enough books from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s dark hunter series to get a good start on it (beginning with the first book, while reading it all in order). YAY! I also purchased the first two books of Terri Garey’s “Nicki Styx” series (so my reviews for that trio will be coming up soon).
