READER CONFESSION – What book had the biggest, most unforgettable jaw-dropping twist or crazy intense scene?
It can be shocking, or scary, or sexy, or heart-achey… something you didn’t see coming, or that you felt BIG time and will never forget.
Kristen: Itβs been so fun reading this list!! I found some Iβve added to my TBR already! Itβs reminding me of so many great books Iβve forgotten.
If you can tell me a bit about it (but not spoil it)…that would be great! If not, then just tell me the book. π
JAWDROPPING TWISTS THAT SHOCKED US
Shannon: Probably not the biggest ever, but the twist Pen Pal took I wasnβt expecting. JT gessinger I think? I may have butchered the name lol
Lori: True! I didn’t not see that coming.
Lorna: yeah I had to pick my jaw up off the floor!
Maryse: I one-clicked it a year ago. I need to read it, ’cause I LOVE that author and Perfect Strangers blew me away. So I know I’ll love this one.
Susan: Pen Pal JT Geissinger …not knowing is what makes it so good. It was definitely a top read for me! Enjoy!
Lorna: She does do great twists here lately.
Becky: Whhhhaaaaa- PenPal by JT Geissinger
Liz: Reception by Kenzie Jenningsβ¦the biggest twist Iβve ever read!
Maryse: I love crazy twists!! I can’t wait to check this one out.
Liz: itβs amazing!
Donya: Last hour of Gann. That book messed me up. It’s sci-fi, and very well written.
Britton: this book was awesome. So weβll written you felt like you were right there.
Alice: Jaw dropping twist- Perfect Strangers by JT Geissinger.
Maryse: That’s one of the ones I’m adding to the list for myself. That was CRAZY. TWO twists, in fact. Here’s my 4.5 star book review.
Alice: yes two!
Lorna: This is the one I came here to say. Talk about almost throwing my Kindle twice!
Kristen: I know Iβve read this but I cannot remember the details. May be time for a reread!
Maryse: You’ll remember soon enough…
Karen: Verity.
Lauren: Verity, by Colleen Hoover was a bloody good one
Lisa: Verity had my jaw dropped though most of CoHos books do
Susan: Verity from Colleen Hoover made me stay up all night to finish and a bit crazy. Fabulous read!!
Erin: Verity gave me chills…
Jaime: Verity by Colleen Hoover was a total mindf**k! It gave me the chills and kept me guessing to this day and I read it over a year ago.
Northernstar: Verity by Colleen Hoover (so creepy gave me the chills)
Nel: Verity is so disturbing, I donβt like how I felt afterwardsβ¦. had that tarryn fisher vibeβ¦.
Steph N: I finished Verity last night and MAN! 5 stars! If you want suspense, pick this one up quick!
Trina: Wow! Just wow. Verity was the best/worst book Iβve ever loved/hated! I would have to take a break after some chapters, but couldnβt wait to start reading again. I felt like I WAS Lowen. It affected my sleep, my mood. What a book!
Maryse: Agreed! This is one of my absolute favorite CoHo books. Quite a jaw-dropping ending… P.S. Here’s my 5-star review.
Donna: Exodus by Author Kate Stewart book 2 in the Ravenhood Trilogy!!
Maryse: I need to read that trilogy!!!
Donna: yes, you definitely do! Youβll have an army of fans for support
Nancy: same!!
Mony: Re-read Exodus (Book #2 Ravenwood series) in preparation for Book #3, The Finish Line (recently released). Exodus was just as amazing as everβ¦maybe even better than the first time around! 5β +
Harper: read Flock and Exodus. Iβm shook. What a mess! It felt like a train wreck I couldnβt stop reading haha Every single character was so flawed and so well developed. Iβve never read a story like this one. It will for sure be in my list of best books of the year.
Lauren: A Surrogate Love Affair by Jamie Roberts
Maryse: Ohhhhh wowwwww! I just read the synopsis. I’m so curious!
Adilia: Beyond Reach (Grant County series) by Karin Slaughter. She pissed me right off.
Maryse: LOL! π I love this comment. Now you have me curious…
JulieO: I used to read Karin Slaughter books as fast as they came out. …they are always very good books.
Janie: Recently Iβve been reading books by Karin Slaughter and everything that Iβve read so far has been amazing.
Kristen: The things we leave unfinished by Rebecca Yarros. I thought I knew what the twist would be but I was so wrong. I had to put my Kindle in the freezer for this one:
- Edge of Never by JA Redmerski. Oldie but a goodie.
- I agree with Jezebel tooβ¦oh!
- And All the Little Lights by Jamie McGuire.
Ashley: Yβall, All the Little lights is amazing!!!!
Anne Marie: The ones I can think off the top of my head are (Loved those books so damn much but total epic mindf*cks!! You should add them, if you havenβt read them yet.)
- The Way We Burn by Michelle Leighton and
MichelleS: The Way We Burnβ¦ so hereβs my updateβ¦ Starts off really strong. Almost lost me at 50% or soβ¦ was getting a bit boredβ¦ then WHAMβ¦ 61% chapter 21β¦.. WTH just happened? Canβt read fast enough now!
- Chase the Butterflies by Monica James.
- Also, Pitch Dark by AM Wilson and Alex Greyson.
Nancy: …an unforgettable, mysterious, suspenseful and very dark book. Once I started I could not put it down…
- And Whiskey and a Gun/The Finish by Jade Ebyβ¦
Tiffany: Jezebel by K. Larsen. I still think about the WTF-ery, lol! I can’t describe it without giving anything away but it’s a twist and turn filled mindf**k of a book!
Maryse: One of my FAVORITE stories and that twist was clever as heck!! P.S. Here’s my 5 star book review.
Amy: Um, to all the hardcore adrenaline lovers out thereβ¦take Maryse’s word for it, and don’t become a little disinterested while reading it because you are just SO SURE you know what’s going on and what’s going to happen and all that. You’ll end up missing out on so much during the journey if you’re in a rush to get to the end of both stories. *ahem* Not that I did that or anything. *looks around and whistles*
Grey: Iβm still having WTF moments from this book a week later. This book was insidious for meβ¦for me, it started out kinda slow. The world building, while necessary, did grow a little tediousβ¦ However, that was part of it, the storytelling tied me up in a cutesie little bow (noβ¦.not that kind of tied up, dirty smuffins) and then *BAM* set one end of the rope on fire.
Brittany: one of my all time favorites!
K. Larsen: Hmmm…
Maryse: I need to look up Unravel. Have I read it?? Nope… I read book #2 (Unhinge <— my review)
Katie: hahaha Unravel is by Calia Read. And Jezebel has a pretty gnarly plot twist too.
Maryse: Jezebel is one of my absolute FAVORITES!!!
Paula: hmmm I was going to say the ending of a book called Jezebel by this chick K. Larsen.
Tiffany: Gone Girl is still my favorite thriller.
Melanie: One of the best plot twists for me was Gone Girl.
MichelleS: That one was crazy good and twisty-turny. Had no clue how it was going to end up!
- Perhaps… The Butterfly Garden too
Maryse: Butterfly Garden was creepy as heck! P.S. Here’s my review.
Tina: …just finished. I havenβt cried during a book in a long time and canβt wait until the next book. I think the fizzle at the ending is because we have to wait for the next book. I loved it!
Casey: The ending to Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan. This of course was right after the book came out and a sequel hadn’t been announced.
Brittany: OMG yes
Casey: so loved that series but oh so
Maryse: I loved it. Luckily, when I read it, it was out, so I had instant relief. P.S. Here’s my book review.
Britton: Collared by Nicole Williams
Patricia: this!!!! Literally never saw that.
Linda: Just finished Collared by Nicole Williams. Oh. My. Heart.
Cait: Holy sh*ttttt just got to the twist plot in collared Well holy god I had not predicted it! Iβm gutted
Cait: …finished collared last night and I loved it!! I couldnβt put it down! I actually thought the ending was appropriate and all things taking into account it would have been unrealistic to finish differently!
Cristina: SOOOOOOO did not see this twist coming!! I mean, I thought I had an idea, but then the author just TOTALLY knocked me backwards!!! Holy hell! Β …Those of you that think theyβve figured the twist to Collared, please donβt let it detour you from reading the book. Did it surprise me? Yes, but honestly, even if I knew ahead of time, I still would have read it, and I donβt think it would have taken away much of the story for me. The journey that Jade, Torrin, and her family partake in after such a horrific tragedy makes for a beautiful story and definitely worth your time.
Kim: Just finished Collared!!! O.M.G. I freaking LOVED it! I ran the gamut of emotionsβ¦. I was giddy, oh the angst! I cried, I smiled, I sighed and I want MORE MORE AND MORE!!!!
Ela: TOLD YA I SOOOOOOOOOOOOO TOLD YA ABOUT COLLARED!
Toni: Zodiac Academy by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti. The whole series not just one book or scene.
Jennifer: Fantastic series!!!!
Tessa: …So good. Angst but a lot of humor too. π
Jennifer: Hush by E.k. Blair – If you know you know – if you donβtβ¦ Start with Bang – then Echo – and finish with Hush. PHENOMENAL.
liz: i just finished Bang the black lotus book #1by E.K. Blair, this book was freaking awesome!!!! it was an emotional book and of course it ends with a cliff hanger. i cant wait for the second book. it had romance, extreme tragedies. vengeance, heart breaks, and definitely wild sex
Maryse: Now you have me wanting to finish the last 2 in the trilogy. I LOVED #1, but the other two weren’t available yet… YAY ME!! Here is my review of book #1.
Megan: The MindF*ck Series!
Dani: Just wanted to put my recommendation of The Mind F*ck series by S. T Abby. The first book is called The Risk. Itβs a about a serial killerβ¦.except SHE is the serial killer and she wants revengeβ¦.oh and just to make more interesting she falls for the FBI Agent who is investigating her case!
Mony: Loving & binging on this series.
Sandy: Nine Minutes by Beth Flynn
Debbie: Asked my husband to read the first chapter of Nine Minutes by Beth Flynn β¦ he took the book to work with him and finished it in a week and he doesnβt read a lot at all. I would give that book to all my book friends!
Patricia: Iβm sure there are a ton that blew my mindβ¦.but the first one that pops in my head bc I all I did was cry, or pace or completely WTF as a read, but mostly I couldnβt breatheβ¦.. The Tristian and Danika books by RK Lilleyβ¦.the ending of both Rock Bottom and Lovely Trigger. I sometimes just pull up those books and read those scenesβ¦doesnβt matter if I know the outcomeβ¦.still wanna throw up readingβ¦
Denise: Patricia Jean I love the Tristian and Dannika books
Melissa: Rainfall by Melissa Delport! It showed me there are worse things than the death of a partner.
Maryse: THIS is my #1 on my list!!! I didn’t see that twist coming at all, and it was SO clever. I miss reveals that blow my mind like this one. P.S. Here’s my 5 star review
Molly: Ripped out my heart.
Melissa: same!! I will never be over this book!
Kristen: oh! Yes! I totally forgot about this one. It was crazy!
Stacey: just read this
heartbroken
Lori: Agreed!
Kristen: if you like Rainfall and havenβt read All the Little Lights, you should!
Maryse: Oh now you have me EXTREMELY INTRIGUED!!!!!!!!!!!
Mandy: The final scene of The Wives by Tarryn Fisher βI am helping.β And what goes on there.
Maryse: I loved that book!! And yes… that ending was quite a scene.
P.S. Here’s my 5-star review
Lisa: To the Author, Great job! PS β *spoiler* deserved what *spoiler* got in the end π π π
Kim: That dark goddess can write!!!
Tiffany: How to Kill a Rockstar by Tiffanie DeBartolo
Maryse: This one will be in my own list of jaw-droppers.
Jessica: The Five by Lily White! Sooo good! Kinda dark by my standards but dark to others, with a lot of WTF moments.
Cheryl: Started reading The Five. Wow, just wow. Disturbingly hot and wtf happened??
Michelle G: The Five was crazy!!
Cheryl: Just finished The Five and wow just wow. *blink-blink* It was good and somewhat kept you guessing what was going on (what I thought was true), but the back and forth between present and past became a little tedious and I found myself wanting it to finish up. Then when it finished I was, WHAT?!! Donβt end there, give me more. Still somewhat dazed about the nonchalance of what happened at the very end.
Linda: The Five was amazing!! It took weeks to get those characters out of my thoughts!! Again a very surprising outcome!! It was absolutely unputdownable!! Went in blind by recommendation!! No spoilers here. Highly recommend!!
Nay: …weβre all gushing over The Five by Lily White. Totally taboo, dark and twisted romantic suspense. And another mystery that keeps you guessing and then blows your mind. Everyone in the BR so far has given it 5 stars!
Robyn: I read The Five and loved it!
Jessica: Also Welcome to E Mayberry by Chris Genovese is a crazy ride!! Itβs set in a town thatβs erotic Mayberryβ¦. Very awesome dirty goodness with jaw dropping moments. itβs soo good. Dirty, and total Mf but soo amazing! Something I wish I could read for the first time again.
Kelly: The whole books Razing Grace part 1 and part 2 amo jones really not for everyone though it’s a really really dark book
Lisa:
- Rock and Roll Never Dies and
The Opportunist.
Lisa: I loved The Opportunist seriesβ¦they were the first T Fishers Id read. I love that her books have a barb in their tail and make me feel uncomfortable. I LOOOVED reading Leahs book and watching her unravel.
Lisa M: I loved the Opportunist series!!! I was freaking out through the whole series!! So much angst!! I was on the edge of my seat reading it!!
Ela: Opportunist/Love me with lies series! One of my all time favorite series where EACH book was awesome and not some filler follow up crap!
Michelle: yes!!!
Maryse: Yes!! I didn’t see that one coming. P.S. Here is my 4.5 star review
Kat P: Iβll never forget itβ¦Ten Tiny Breaths
Michelle:
Amanda: BLACK LIESSSSS π
Christine: Black Lies was a big jaw dropper for me! Crazy!!!
Dawn: Oh gosh! I would have to say Black Lies by Alessandra Torre is definitely one that had me stumped until the end!!
Stephanie: Black Lies by Alessandra Torre. I love going back and rereading to see the clues again after knowing the outcome.
Maryse: LOVED this one too. Here’s my 4.5 star Book Review β Black Lies byΒ Alessandra Torre
Maryse: I loved both of these. Excellent OMG moments. Here is my Book Review β The Paper Swan byΒ Leylah AttarΒ β 5 stars
R. Renee: I loved and hated Paper Swan equally. Is that possible? LOL. I had a hard time getting over an initial shocking scene.
MichelleS: WOW! Okay. I just finished. First, totally agreeβ¦. 5 stars for sure! I donβt think Iβll ever forget this story. It was just so intense the WHOLE WAY THROUGH. And I didnβt think I could root for these two people because there were someβ¦.. thingsβ¦.. that he did early onβ¦ but then I did anyway. I think he was just so so so intense in every way (good and bad). WOWZA. Another great recommendation my friend!!! AWESOME-SAUCE!
Kathleen: Carnage by Lesley Jones!!!! I will never get it out of my head!!!
Cathy: Carnage #1 by Lesley Jones had an OMG gasp worthy moment at the end of the book.
Jenna: exactly what I thought of!
Patti: yep!
Maryse: read Carnage and it made a mess of me!!!! P.S. Here’s my book review.
Tiffany: That series was a rough one to read but MAN I loved it!!!! It has definitely stayed with me over the years.
Kim: Carnage gave me a WHAT moment and has stuck with me for years.
Kolleen: Drive by Kate Stewart
Maryse: LOVED this one. One of my favorites. Here’s my 5-STAR review.
Amy: It was so clever and beautiful and gut wrenching and tumultuous and so much more I canβt even put into words.
Kimberly: LOVED!!! Wish we could go back to the days when books like this werenβt so few and far between. Gave me old school angst ridden indie feels where I devoured every page but at the same time dreaded the end. I was even hoping for a cliffhanger as the page count dwindled since I didnβt want the story to be over. So, so good!!
Tessa: Loved it. Just finished last night and LOVED it. β¦I was rooting for *, so β¦ Still 5 stars plus.
INTENSE FEELS & MADE US CRY:
Patti: Say I’m the One (All of Me Book 1) by Siobhan Davis
Sue: The Language of flowers. Awesome

mony: good recommendation on The Language of Flowersβ¦lovely story!
Tasha J: One of my favorites that I read a few years ago! π …I read this one a couple years ago and raved about it. Itβs a beautifully written story about a foster child, now a woman, who had a rough start in life and her gift with the meanings of flowers and how she touches otherβs lives in that way. …So heartwarming and also heartbreaking. There were many times I wanted to shake the mc too!! Awesome read, 5 stars from me π
David: The Bridge to Terabithia... TOOK
ME
OUT
I think I read the book in like, 7th grade? I BAWLED.
Tracy: my daughter for the movie burst into tears and ran out of the theater. I had her friends with and I didnβt know what to do – leave the kids or chase my kid. She was sad for several days. But sheβs very sensitive.
Tessa: My first ugly cry. The story was engrossing and in 4th grade, I was yelling at Jesse for being a stupid boy. lol Then, all that happened and that end. I remember finishing it and running to my mom and sobbing on her shoulder, saying that the book was the worst book and the author was the meanest person ever! lol I still havenβt been able to watch the movie. Too many tears!
Carmen: I still can’t move on from Styxx, Sherrilyn Kenyon
Maryse: Crazy enough… I don’t think I’ve read that one. Which blows my mind, because I feel like I know his story (and I feel like I liked it even more than Acheron), but I don’t have a review on it. I need to get to it ASAP.
Krystal: Styxx! You MUST read Styxx! It is more gut-wrentching/heart-breaking than Acheron. I hated him in Acheron, then I read his book and I cried and cried. In my opinion, his life was sooo much worse then his brotherβs…
Melissa: Taking Chances Molly McAdams. Heart wrenching
Stacey: this book broke me for days!!!!!!! and thank you for reminding me of this book it made me go back to it and I saw molly bought out another book for chase so excited but scared to read it

Becky: Felt big time and will never forget – The Boy and His Ribbon series by Pepper Winters I still get tingles and tear up just looking at/thinking about it.
Erin: Hopeless by Colleen Hoover. I threw my kindle across the room and cried for a while. One of my favorite books but so heartbreaking.
Molly: yeeeesssssss
Katie: I love that book.
Becky: i felt that way too! Did you read Losing Hope as well!?
Erin: yes! I loved that one too. Heartbreaking but so good! Colleen Hoover is such an amazing author!
Maryse: Yesssss I loved it too. Here’s my 4.5 star book review.
Tetou: Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder
Dana: The one that springs to mind and immediately sealed my eternal love of all things Jasinda Wilder (Jack too), βFalling into Youβ which gutted me.

M. Hayes’ If We Disappear Here definitely had a twist at the end. So good. Also, Jewel E. Ann’s When Life Happened also had a twist I wasn’t expecting,
I agree with Donya. The Last Hour of Gann is epic. I’ve read thousands of books and The Last Hour of Gann sticks with me more than any others. I’ve read it three times and it’s still my top favorite.
Someone already mentioned it. How To Kill a Rockstar one of my all time favorites.
