The Kristen Proby Crossover Collection

By 6 Comments

I love when authors get together and write stories that crossover with other authors’ stories. It’s so clever mixing worlds. 😉 And this one just went LIVE! The Kristen Proby Crossover Collection features a new novel by Kristen Proby and six books by some of her favorite writers.

And I gotta admit, every single blurb sounds right up my alley (especially Rachel Van Dyken’s… that’s the one

I want to read first!! OMG and Laura Kaye’s!!! MINE!!!!) *ooooomph*

Kristen Proby says:

“This project is more than a year in the making. What an honor it is to work with every single author in this collection. I can’t tell you how grateful and humbled I am.

These stories are AH-MAZING. If you haven’t started reading them yet, you’re in for a treat!
…they are standalones from six other authors and myself set in the Big Sky world. …no reading order.”

Nay: OMG, ya’ll! I just finished The Great Alone, rated NSFL–not safe for Leslie ;)
But, WOW, what a beautifully tragic, incredible book! I think I experienced every feeling from one end of the spectrum to the other, and each in such a strong way.
It took a bit to get moving, but that part wasn’t bad or anything, just not as eventful. However, once it took off, it never let up. I almost had to stop reading because of the way it rocked my emotions during a couple of chapters–and that’s saying something for me. But I’m SO glad I didn’t put it down.
I listened to the audiobook, and Julia Whelan did such a phenomenal job with all the different characters, male and female. And she put her whole heart into it. It was simply amazing! All of you who have it on your tbr need to move it up!

Pia: Anyone read Halo by Brooke Blaine/Ella Frank? Finished it the other day and it was soooo good. When I finished the book I immidiately went to chapter 1 and startede all over again. Looking forward to March 25 when VIPER (Fallen Angel Book 2) is released :-)
  • Kathy P found these for us!
Kathy P: Jamie Begley who writes MC Books has added all of her books to KU. I have read a few of them and have liked them. Also, Ginger Scott has added 5 books to KU. Happy Weekend!
  • Aloha in Love by Jennifer Watts <— Went live on Sunday, and the hero was inspired by Jason Momoa. 😉 NICE!!! P.S. Here’s a 5 Fun Facts about the book.

Five Fun Facts about Jennifer Watts’ latest release, Aloha in Love!

By Leave a Comment

Jennifer Watts is this week’s newsletter sponsor in celebration of her latest release, Aloha in Love!!
For those that crave book about starting over or visiting a whole different part of the country (or another country altogether) this might just satisfy your fancy! Who doesn’t dream of starting over in paradise? And I LOVE this premise!!! Plus, it’s got a huge, brooding, grumpy (but hot!!) landlord.

P.S. Fun fact number (see the list below) one will make envisioning this hero SO easy (and OMG YES PLEASE!!!) 😉

“…When twenty-seven year old Real Estate broker, Ashley Walsh, learns that her husband’s business trips aren’t strictly for business she uproots her life and buys a one-way ticket to Hawaii.

And what better place to start over than a sleepy little surf town on Maui’s North Shore? Life in Paia moves at a different pace and surrounded by nothing but blue skies and crystal clear water Ashley receives a warm Aloha welcome from all of the locals.

At least from all but one of them.

One kama’aina in particular who seems to have no interest in bringing Ashley into the fold is her bossy and brooding landlord, Kane Keo. At six-foot-five inches of solid muscle, Kane has a temper almost as dangerous as the rumors that swirl around him. He won’t let Ashley close but he won’t let her out of his sight either…”

Oooomph!! Wanna know more?

5 fun facts about Aloha in Love

1.) The character of Kane Keo was inspired by actor Jason Momoa.

2.) Aloha in Love takes place in Paia, a Hawaiian plantation village on the North Shore of Maui, which is the last stop on the famous ‘Road to Hana’.

3.) Ashley is used to manscaping and manicures with her former husband – Kane Keo is board shorts and bare feet – he’s wild and unruly and unlike anything she’s used to.

4.) You’ll find some Pidgin Hawaiian English throughout the book, also known as Hawaiian Creole English. It language originated on sugarcane plantations as a form of communication between English and non-English speakers and in Hawaiian is called “ʻōlelo paʻi ʻai”, which literally means “pounding-taro language”.

5.) Sexual tension brews on their day long hike into the Haleakala Crater, a shield volcano 10,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. It’s a spiritually significant place where they say the Demi-God Maui captured the sun to help make the days longer.

Book Review – Everything You Want Me To Be by Mindy Mejia

By 17 Comments

Everything You Want Me to Be: A Novel
Highly recommended by my two book twins (we’re actually book triplets) ’cause they knew this one would be right up my alley, combining TWO genres that I love (a thriller/mystery & a forbidden love story), and it was good!!!

Amy: Everything You Want Me to Be? GAH! That book bruised my heart left its mark on me. …FEELS!!!

Tasha J: Amy, I finished Everything You Want Me to Be and it was fantastic! All consuming, don’t wanna come up for air, 5 Stars! I was on the verge of messaging my rage to u on GR towards the end. Totally thought I had it worked out a couple times. Lol …gave me all the feels and mystery and thrills

Amy: Maryse, I saw on the other post you’re reading Everything You Want Me to Be. That book. *OOMPH!* I was heartsick by the end. That one paragraph I posted before…and the letter…oh, my heart.

Tasha J: I hope you’re loving Everything You Want Me to Be, Maryse. That one hit me hard. In fact, it was why I couldn’t get into the book I read right after.

The prologue hooked me hard, but I was confused when the book started with… the end (especially considering what I had just read in the prologue).

I wasn’t sure where it was going to take me, but a look through past and present, via multiple POVs, slowly pieced the puzzle together.

So what’s it about?

Hattie was a high school sweetheart, and popular amongst her small town. Raised by loving parents, stable from start to finish.  Beautiful, starry-eyed, an extrovert, and highly intelligent. And while she hung out with the “cool crowd” she was a head above them all in regards to her talent, and her intentions for a bigger and better life.

I knew exactly who I was – for maybe the first time ever – and exactly what I wanted and what I had to do to get it. It was clarity. Like waking up from a dream where you thought things were real and then feeling the actual world coming into focus all around you.

But she had secrets. Not only was she a master at manipulating certain situations to her benefit, she was head-over-heels in love with her High School Lit Teacher. A man that was feeling rejected and alone in his own marriage.

My Mary, my sweet and generous, vintage-loving, apple-cheeked Mary looked at me like I was some annoying stray begging for scraps.

And it’s when Hattie’s body is found, stabbed to death, that the real “Hattie” comes to life. Who she was outwardly. Who she wanted to be.

My only hiccup? Two actually. I just re-read the prologue and I’m struggling to tie it in with the story as a whole, timeline wise. It set me up for a certain “idea” that I was suspecting would be a crazy reveal and well… I was wrong.

Oh and… ehhhh… I’m not a huge “police procedural” girl. While I like mysteries, I always prefer to uncover and reveal them piece by piece via the villain or the victims eyes, and there was a lot of investigating in this one.

Still, all of the rest of the more “personal” chapters (the actual story, and how it all played out) kept me turning the pages.

Amy: It’s really good but the chapters from the sheriff’s POV, however informative, are slowing things down for me. I just don’t care for detective/cop POVs most of the time. BUT the murdered girl and teacher’s POVs are GREAT. :D

See? We’re book-twins.

And yes, this was an actual print book that I read, and I devoured it in 2 days!

I kept guessing right to the every end… and I was wrong!! 😀 Did I hope for a more clever-crazy twist? Considering the prologue – it seems I misunderstood it, so I was expecting something crazier. A reveal that would shock and awe me. And while the reveal was much tamer, it still surprised me, so I’m good with it!

4 stars!

P.S. I can’t tell you what I was “hoping” the reveal would be ’cause now that I think of it, it would have been absurd and way too out there, but you know… the “absurd and out there” has been cleverly done before, so I kept expecting…. *ahem* My lips are sealed. And now I’m embarrassed that I even went there. *snort* 😛

But then again… had it GONE where I thought I was clever enough to dream up, I would have had the ultimate OOOMPH & probably 5-starred it. 😉 Gah!! I wish I could tell you what I was thinking… But y’all will probably be like… “Whaaaaaaaa???!!! How did your mind even go there?!!”

P.S. Thank you to the publisher for sending me a review copy!
