Friday Finds & Reader Recommendations – September 28th 2018

It’s Friday, I’m happy, and the Friday Finds today seem quite excellent indeed!!! Quite a few on here that gave me a HUGE blurb jolt, like Medicine Man by Saffron A. Kent (just went LIVE) and that one there to the left (I Like You, I Love Her: A Novel by J. R. Rogue) with a blurb that had me gasping and my eyes bugging out!! What does it mean? Does it mean what I think it means? Oh I wanna read it so bad!!
Plus, we’re squeeing over an angsty rock star trilogy CLASSIC that Jenn just started reading and we’re on pins and needles waiting for her reaction. Tee hee!!!! She might just end up missing work again. 😉

Tasha: The Storm King by Brendan Duffy is on sale … I must have put this on my tbr and forgot about it. It’s a thriller, not romance, but it looks good!

Jenn: Good Morning- I finished ‘Lies We Tell Ourselves” Amy Matayo. It had such an empowering message and that is what I am taking away from this. I was left with a resolve to be more careful what I say and do—not only to others, but to myself…especially myself….because we are worth it and so was reading this emotionally touching story. Okay now off to find another book so I can do FLT

  • Kick by Ali Dean <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK!!! Angela loved it!!

Angela: Just finished reading kick by Ali dean- you had this book on new releases a few days ago!!! I could NOT put this book down! Ms. Dean draws you in with every word she writes. I literally re-read everything she publishes until her next new book comes out. Kick is an amazing self-discovery romance that takes you outside the normal college drama spectrum into more realistic problems and emotions that any young adult could face during their college years.
It deals with a beautiful young woman that has real problems and struggles with identity crisis, this is so amazing because it’s so relatable and it just grips your heart and doesn’t let go. Jack, is such a good compliment to Lydia, he knows what he wants and won’t settle for less. So many new age romances have entirely too much drama, but this is so real and almost effortless you never want the story to end.

Leslie M: Jenn, be prepared for every single romance reader out there to squee because you are reading Tristan & Danika’s story. I swear that is everyone’s fave. It’s a good one!!
Melinda: Omg Jen, you lucky lucky thing. You are in for the ride of your life. I loved those books. All of them. I think Maryse 5 starred all of them. I 5 starred all of them
Maryse: Pretty much, Melinda… the trilogy as whole? Absolutely 5 stars. I 4.5 starred the first two because I was waiting for that big finale and boy did it deliver!!! 😛

Amy: JENN!!!!! *SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!* You will experience every possible emotion in the train wreck that is their story. The only book I can recall which had me SOBBING happy tears at the end of the trilogy. I’m sooooo jealous but SO thrilled for you!

Reader Question – The book about the teacher who has the MC president’s young daughter in her class

Ambra is looking for this one! OMG THE DRAMA!!!! I’m incensed and titillated at the same time. YES… but it’s a spoiler so proceed with caution (I alert before the big reveal is mentioned), and while I normally hate spoilers, this one kind of makes me want to read it anyway. Eeeeeep!

She asks:

I can’t remember what the name and author is of this book. But I can give you the details of what i believe. What the details of the book is.
So the main character is a teacher who has the MC president’s young daughter in her class.

The mom isn’t in her life and the little girl is raised in the clubhouse (the little girl is hilarious cuz she’s very grown) and him and the teacher start to get really close cuz she becomes almost a mother figure to his daughter….

I read the 1st book of a duet the 2nd book to come out by the end of the year.

The h lived at home with strong family ties. They were all invited along with h’s bf for dinner at old family friend’s house. There h met H and she was seated between bf and H at the table (funny).The attraction was mutual but h wanted to stay friends and so the triangle begins.

As the relationship develops between h and H

Reader Confession – What character nicknames do it for us… and don’t do it for us. ;)

We’ve chatted about this subject off and on in the comments over the years, and I couldn’t help but post this today. It’s a subject near and dear to my heart (in real life… and in book life). Done right, it’s what makes the characters real. Done right in real life, it helps forge that sweet connection and closeness.

Okay right off the bat, Babe or Baby melts me. I just love that! It’s personal and intimate and sweet (and yes… it’s “usual”) but I’m into it. My parents always called each other that (and loved each other like crazy), and to me, it shows affection and intimacy. So when Tate in Sweet Dreams would say it, I would swooooooon. He could answer a whole situation or conversation with that one… statement.

“Babe”.

YUM!

Pigeon <— LOVE!!! Travis’s sweet endearment for his beloved… Abby in Beautiful Disaster. You’d think it’s weird (sure ;)) , but once you get to know the two of ’em, it fits, it’s sweet, and it’s THEM.

Sidenote? 😉 Wanna know the weirdest nickname I ever had (that I never quite warmed up to). One of my boyfriends when I was in my college days called me “Potato”. *blink blink* Yeah… he wasn’t the affectionate type, certainly held back on the sweet endearments, but when he wanted to be *ahem* “sweet“? Potato. confused
Okay so now you guys!

Nay: re: nicknames–For a certain male personality, I can see ‘toots’ working for me. The one that made me create a ‘Hate the nickname’ folder on GR was the hero calling the heroine ‘Sparkle’ in one book, but the one I abhorred was another book where the hero called the heroine ‘Puppy’. Ick! I couldn’t even make it past 30%. I also hated Joe calling Vi ‘Buddy’ in At Peace (it kept reminding me of the Chuck Taylor knock-offs from when I was younger), but since that’s one of my fave K.A. books (and since it was Joe *rawr*), I was able to overlook it.

Julie O: I love Joe and he could call me whatever he wants.

bev: I’m one of the few that liked “Buddy”. It was just so unexpected and unique, also my first KA. I want to say it was based on a man calling her that, but not sure.

Jane: Ha ha Nay. Yeah I loved Joe and At Peace as well, but I wasn’t that into the nickname Buddy either. bev I’m with you on Toots. Not loving that either. Puppy and Sparkle are heck to the no as well. LOL. I suppose authors want to include something a bit different from Babe. Something a bit quirky maybe. But sometimes it just doesn’t work.

Maryse: Hrmmm… I kind of like Puppy. It’s actually something we say in Quebec (“Pitou”) but to their boyfriends or husbands (I don’t recall it ever being said to a girl). But like all nicknames, not everyone adopts it.

Leslie M: I am not sure why some H’s can get away with cringey nicknames but I guess it depends on how hot they are! I think my fave is when Jamie calls Claire Sassenach.

JulieO: I don’t like the endearment “DOLL”. It makes me think of those old gangster movies on TV. It was used in the book COLLIDE which kind of turned me off a little.

Nay: I guess it depends on the man, because Jamie could call Claire puppy, sparkle, or buddy and it would sound sexy, Well, maybe not ‘puppy’–I REALLY hate that one,

Maryse: Exactly!! I agree, Nay. “Momma” always sounded weird to me, until Ty started calling Lexie that in Lady Luck (Colorado Mountain Series Book 3). That was hot. 😉

MichelleS: I don’t want to call you “daddy” & I don’t want to be tied up. I want to call you “my lord” or “my laird” (depends where we live), and if you drive a motorcycle & I can ride behind you, I’m good with that! Oh!!! And I LOVE it if you give me a good nickname! Like kitten. I might call you bratwurst, though! This is just too much fun. I must stop. We should do a thread about best nicknames! I loved F*cky (EoL) oh yes I did! And Bratwurst (Kulti).

Jan: I like the fav nicknames thread idea Michelle. But am I lame that I can’t remember any? I’d even forgotten the one from Kulti and that’s one of my fav books! Although I’m just starting American Hellhoundtoday and I have to say. ‘Ghost’ is a lot better than ‘Kenny’ (his real name lol).

Leslie M: Fave nicknames? I recently read and loved: Real Good Man by Meghan March and h’s name is Banner. H calls her Bruce. Her parents are nerds and named her after Bruce Banner. It was super swoony hearing it on audio with sexy narration by Sebastian York.

Er…. MichelleS? What book is EoL (and… OMG a character was nicknamed F*cky?!!) LOL!!!!!

Melinda: I have just finished a fantastic book. You know the one, can’t go to bed, walking around with book in hand. And the annoying family that make you reread the same page 10 times. Drum roll it’s called “Binding 13” recommended by Jan easy 5 stars. I loved it. It’s a rugby player book. The book is written really well. I think it’s 825 pages. The author is Chloe Walsh.
Jan: It’s GOOD everybody. Well worth the read. And here’s me all liking an NA bully book. What’s going ON???????? …NA and bullies aren’t usually my fav. But there was just something mesmerising about this book. I got drawn right in and I just had to keep on reading.

Jenn: I finished TJR book and it’s amazing what I felt in the 35 minutes it took for me to read it.
