Friday Finds & Reader Recommendations – June 22nd 2018

HAPPY FRIDAY, HAPPY READING WEEKEND and… it’s the day of forbidden love (er, well… at least two of today’s Friday Finds, anyway). Like that one there to the left.
Let’s play “Three Things” (in the comments) shall we? This is one of our favorite games (anything about you, right now – random or not) to bring us up to date (courtesy of bev – I love her fun personal quizzes). Okay so I’ll start!

  1. A bunch of us are buddy reading that one up there to the left (One Week). I know it’s going to make a mess of me, and I LOVE that!
  2. I’m ALSO reading another book that I’m so into called The One. Imagine you can have your DNA tested, and find your exact love match/soulmate. Sounds perfect doesn’t it? But oh the complications, and this book GOES there. I’m LOVING it!!
  3. I just planted my 3′ lemon tree into the ground with my navel oranges. I grew them all from seed (from organic fruits, and growing from seed can be hit or miss on exactly what kind of fruit will be produced – yummy or sour?). BUT!! The lemon tree is extra special to me because it’s polyembryonic (meaning TWO trees came up from one seed, which, from what I gather, means that ONE of those trees is a perfect clone of its original tree and will produce the exact same kind of lemons I took it from). YAY ME!!!!

  • One Week by Roya Carmen <— LIVE!!! ROYA CARMEN’S LATEST FORBIDDEN LOVE ALERT! OH MY MY MY. eek This one is going to be tumultuous!!!!! I’m going in!   • Even Money (All In Duet Book 1) by Alessandra Torre <— ALESSANDRA TORRE’S LATEST & Jean was enjoying this one!

Jean: I am loving Even Money! I can’t explain it, but it’s kinda giving me the old feels from books like Release Me (J. Kenner), Naked (Raine Miller), Bared to You (Sylvia Day), This Man (Jodi Ellen Malpas), Fifty Shades,…… just the feelings though. I could be wrong in my assessment because I’m only at 30%…..I have no idea where it’s going or if it’s even erotica…… great storyline so far! I have a feeling I’ll be needing to jump into book 2.Keep you all updated!

Ami: Gotta share my poetry obsession Hello! I’m so glad I found this cool website! I’ve been trying to find someone to share my new poet obsession with, and it’s unbelievable how HARD it is! Anyway, I would really like to recommend “Well, This Is Stupid” by Ives Phillips. There are some poems that are hard-hitting and touching, and some that are witty and sweet. (I especially love their “Untitled” poem, it touches the fantasy-loving part of me and the clinically depressed part of me). I think they have a goodreads account, too, but I have yet to find it, myself. Happy reading! -Ami

Reader Question – The book about the girl that meets a rock star at a rehearsal…

IB has a book for us to help her with! It’s a rock star book and I love the sound of it already!

She asks:

Hi Maryse!

I love your blog. I have been a silent follower for many years. I need your help finding a book and it’s driving me crazy.

Its about a female singer that was at a rehearsal for an award ceremony .I think she was suppose to sing at an award ceremony. Her Stepfather is her manager and she met the guy who is a rock star also at the rehearsal.

That’s all I remember.

Anyone have a guess?

Jan: I’d like to know what this one is too :D At first I thought it might have been Liora Blake’s True North (The True Series Book 1) which I read and liked a few months ago. But when I looked it up I remembered that in True North the h and H meet at a TV talk show interview where they click immediately. So, not that one, but I do recommend it anyway as an enjoyable read.

Kim U: That sounds like the first chapter of Oceanside (Rock Stars, Surf and Second Chances Book 3) by Michelle Mankin. She is performing a song her stepfather (the manager) wrote, and Ash is her fangirl moment.

Chris is looking for this one! Marital strife… and her boss. Oh oh. 😉 Enough detail in this one, that I “spoiler-alerted” a few times, and I have no doubt this one will ring a bell, for sure!

I’ve read over 3000 books and can’t find one I want to reread despite 2 days of searching.

It’s about a woman who goes back to work for an alpha male, after raising her kids.

  • That Guy by Kim Jones <— JUST RELEASED YESTERDAY IT’S HILARIOUS and Tasha devoured it!

Tasha: I’m reading That Guy…this chick is batsh!t crazy, lol!!
….Well, I didn’t stop reading it once I started. It was hilarious! I like how it pokes fun at the usual romance tropes and yet still manages to play out a lot of them and not be too corny, but funny. There’s a lot of cursing and probably some more crass moments, but I didn’t even mind. Sometimes that stuff annoys me. I loved the crazy heroine and “that guy”. Lol, the anger from him was so good. I have country family, and some of the stuff she says totally fits in with them. Haha..The “watermelon crawl” song is now stuck in my head.

  • If You Say So by A.R. Myles <— AUTHOR STAYED TRUE TO HER VISION. Nay loved it! Especially the second half…
Nay: So I devoured the final 30% of If You Say So on Saturday night, and I have to say that as a reader who appreciates diversity in a story line and an author who’ll stay true to their vision (the end of this book was written first–it was the one part that the author knew wouldn’t change), I loved the last part of the book and it definitely affected me in a big way! It took a bit for me to get going because the beginning seems somewhat ‘been there done that’, but I appreciated the fact that the book was only the heroine’s pov and the creativity of the plot, although I did guess the what and how of the ending. (If I hadn’t know that people were talking about it, I probably wouldn’t have, though.) Ends up that I loved it! I just wish the entire book would have been as exciting as the 2nd half and that the ending was a little more fleshed out.
  •  Wanting Mr. Cane (Cane #1) by Shanora Williams <— DON’T JUDGE JENNIFER!!! Jennifer is having a LOVE/HATE relationship with this one! But I’m thinking more… love 😉 Even though she’s TICKED!!!

Jennifer: Just finished this book and it has the MOST HORRIFIC cliffhanger ever. I legit want to puke. I CANNOT EVEN FUNCTION RIGHT NOW!!!!! But I have to wait till July 12th for the second one. #NOTOKAY Anyways…to say it was wrong, sexy, mysterious and phenomenal all rolled into is an understatement! PS: I dreamed of Cade last night. DONT JUDGE ME!

Tessa: Fearless I put at 4.5 stars. It would’ve been higher, but my angst box is broken. There was only one part that had me feeling angsty, and that was with Aiden, not the main characters. That said, I kinda want to skip the next ones to get to Aiden’s book, but I know that’ll just confuse me. Yep, Aiden is my favorite.
Linda: Well I devoured Rising (Vincent and Eve Book 1) and Reckoning (Vincent and Eve Book 2) by Jessica Ruben over the weekend!!! Now I’m in a bratty mood because I have no idea when Redemption will be released!! Total CH!! I didn’t listen to my logical inner voice saying “wait until series is complete!!!” Nooooooo too impatient!!! UGH!! Did the same dang thing last week with Folsom!!!
