This one passed just under my radar not too long ago, until some in our book-crew touted it as their “Best of May”. Admittedly, the cover didn’t quite catch my eye (even though I KNOW this author is much loved by many in our indie-romance world – especially her biker books). It was on my “new release” list, yet somehow I missed it for my own TBR list. Was it the cover? The “historical romance” aspect (which isn’t normal “my thing”)? I dunno, but OMG this one needs to be highlighted and I AM SO thankful to my book-buds for highlighting it for me!!

Book Review – Heartbreak Warfare by Heather M. Orgeron & Kate Stewart
Heartbreak Warfare
WOWOWWWWW!!!! That is the exact feeling I had when I read the very last line. I absolutely LOVED this book to no end.
It encompasses everything that is real and difficult and tumultuous and magnificent when it comes to love, life, heartache and family.
What I want and what I need are rarely in line anymore.
And BOY DID WE FEEL IT!!! Right from the very start:
Linda: Just started Heartbreak Warfare and I’m so nervous!! Lol! Crazy I tell ya!! Going in blind but I’ve been skating over reactions and seeing lots of love so I gotta go into the trenches and see for myself.
Swoon worthy book recommendations with military World War 1 or 2 elements…
Linda asks:
Hi Maryse!
I hope you are doing well. I have been a fan for 3 years and love your posts and updates.
I recently read Jojo Moyes’ book, The Girl You Left Behind and it revived a love that I had forgotten – German Commanders as a leading character!
Can you recommend a book in this genre that are swoon worthy and have the military World War 1 or 2 elements? I am having a hard time finding something on my own here.
Thank you so much!
Linda
You bet, Linda!
Right off the bat the first AMAZING one that comes to mind is, of course, The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman Trilogy Book 1) by Paullina Simons. AMAZING trilogy, and these will fulfill your WWII romance and hardship needs, without a doubt. Here is my review. MichelleS agrees! “I am surprised how many people haven’t read Bronze Horseman. One of my all time favorites. Right after Outlander, probably. I know, I know… it feels like it would be crazy heavy (WWII in Leningrad) and long (3 books)… and it is… but it is sooooo worth it. An amazing love story. One of THE best, IMHO. It is so satisfying because the three books span their lifetime, so you get their ENTIRE story. How often do we get that? This is like book one plus the longest epilogue ever!!!”
Book Review – The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
The Nightingale
This was one of the most incredibly devastating, beautiful, tragic and eye opening stories that I have ever read. Absolutely unforgettable, utterly distressing yet uplifting in the hope that human compassion and fighting back in the face of adversity (any way you can… it all counts) will always prevail.
And this isn’t just a “tale”. This heinous period, this hate, this insanity… this evil… existed. Exists. And today is Holocaust Remembrance Day so I think I read this wonderful book just in time!
Currently Reading… The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
The Nightingale <— I am totally reading one from my latest reader recommendations list and it is SO SOOOOO good. Considering it has over 3000 5-star reviews with barely any lower ones, I KNEW this would be awesome. Now I’m only nearing the halfway mark and so it may be premature to say this, but I’d say for those looking for a “Bronze Horseman” richness and feel (and era), THIS. IS. IT!!!!
Just check out what Athena had to say about it:
“So I just finished an EPIC of a story and I want to urge you all to read this AMAZING story!! ‘The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah’ was by far of one of the most beautiful stories even written!! It really was one of those book that took you in from page one and still has a hold on me even though it’s sadly over for me! I laughed, I cried (holy moly did I cry), I fell in love and I was angry (oh boy was I angry). And yet by the end I felt at peace and for that I must say Ms. Hannah is an absolutely brilliant writer!! 5++++++++“
